During the two-decade run of &#8220;The Ellen DeGeneres Show,&#8221; its host would end each episode with the line, &#8220;Be kind to one another.&#8221; That was until the show got cancelled following allegations that DeGeneres created a toxic environment for her employees. Now, she spends her time in English exile complaining that President Donald Trump isn&#8217;t nice enough.
We all wish we had a nickel for every celebrity who vowed to leave the country if Donald Trump won the election. And then it happened twice. Ka-ching. 
Yet the vast majority of stars, <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/cher-leave-the-country-trump-reelected-guardian-interview-1234856398/">like Cher</a>, never leave. They collectively memory-holed their vow while keeping up a “resistance” posture. Not Ellen DeGeneres. She followed through on the promise to leave. The disgraced talk show host literally left the country at the end of 2024 before Trump took office for greener pastures. Bucolic England, to be more accurate. And <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8d638rrndzo">she loved</a> her new home:

The villages and the towns and the architecture — everything you see is charming and it&#8217;s just a simpler way of life … It&#8217;s clean. Everything here is just better — the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.”</blockquote>
Yes. The comedienne who was bounced from her own show for chronic cruelty is now a big fan of polite behavior, apparently.

President Trump’s reelection weighed heavily in her decision to flee the country. She also worried Trump — who has appointed openly gay men to be key parts of his administration, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and adviser Ric Grenell — would end same-sex marriage in the United States.
That was then. A year and a half of Trump-induced exile was apparently enough. The &#8220;Finding Nemo&#8221; star is now using some of her American-earned royalties to buy a new home … back in America.
The comic and her longtime squeeze Portia de Rossi just gobbled up a $27 million mansion in Montecito, California. The plan, at the moment, is for the couple to split time between England and the United States. But it appears their return may <a href="https://pagesix.com/2026/02/04/celebrity-news/inside-ellen-degeneres-decision-to-buy-california-home-one-year-after-uk-move/">be temporary</a>.
Imagine having enough money to buy a California mansion with the plan to ditch it in the near future.

One would think a celebrity of her stature might have a debt of gratitude to a country that allows that kind of financial freedom. Perhaps she’ll realize life in the United States, even under a so-called “dictator,” still has its perks. 
Maybe not.
It’s also unclear what DeGeneres thinks about the recent crackdowns on free speech on British citizens, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/irish-comedian-recounts-shocking-arrest-over-anti-trans-social-media-posts">the arrest</a> of comedic colleague Graham Linehan at Heathrow Airport over a social media post about men entering women&#8217;s spaces. She’s yet to weigh in on the matter via social media, even though she’s been a stand-up comic for decades, a gig that demands all the free speech room Western culture can offer.
For now, a <a href="https://people.com/ellen-degeneres-missing-california-after-moving-to-england-buys-new-house-montecito-11898028">People magazine source</a> says the duo missed California’s weather and “horse scene.” They&#8217;ll hole up back in California while they build a massive horse stable and riding area at the United Kingdom estate. 
De Rossi is an animal enthusiast and appears to have put her extensive Hollywood career behind her. The “Arrested Development” co-star’s resume dried up in recent years with no new projects on the horizon.
The same may not be true for DeGeneres.
The comedian delivered a rare stand-up special late in 2024 on Netflix. It was her first attempt at explaining away all the terrible headlines tied to her ugly TV talk show exit on her terms, not any tabloid headlines.

No filters. Just DeGeneres and her considerable wit. Except the special didn’t capture the upbeat humor that entertained so many Americans over the years. And, when it came to addressing the elephant on the stage, her toxic behavior, DeGeneres fumbled.
Even Variety, a far-left outlet that might be gracious to any DeGeneres comeback given her legitimate status as an LGBT pioneer, <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/ellen-degeneres-netflix-special-review-for-your-approval-1236153600/">cried foul.</a>
It’s a spectacle of ego that seems at odds with the humble demeanor DeGeneres shows on stage — but then, that divide has lately been part of the whole Ellen experience.
And, it appeared, the special was her way of speaking her mind and bowing out of Hollywood, officially.
Then again, how many artists have promised to hang up their professional hats only to return a short time later? If DeGeneres truly embraced the kindness and beauty of her new British home, why not move to any of the other states in America, where she’ll find plenty of both? Why pick a city that’s less than two hours from Los Angeles, still a major Hollywood hub?
Her recent social media musings prove she’s still plugged in to American news headlines and, more importantly, remains on the same page as her former Hollywood denizens. She recently offered “<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DTquV4Ekoa1/">prayers</a>” to Minneapolis for the self-inflicted chaos engulfing the city over ICE arrests.
Perhaps DeGeneres is taking a page from the playbook of another former talk show host: Rosie O’Donnell. They’re both former comedians who fled the country thanks to President Trump, but neither can leave their old home’s politics behind.

O’Donnell’s unhinged rants over all things Trump have flowed steadily from her social media accounts despite living full-time in Ireland for the past year. She even questioned whether President Trump’s 2024 assassination attempt <a href="https://www.aol.com/rosie-o-donnell-angrily-rants-170206586.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAALPU--JZlGu-3QIZUjsflhvuYeZX7XoyxpfJhyLNRnDIDk9HQL9hAPxOsPCgPQy9SswtbIx4ZnRpJGMKNouhyDFBJGmhF7-yioQ8-MHodua6LPGwGCthczcNsJ2FQQCqA6-bMXCmKzKUBcL4iEh6QiwcUag87dgV7xzqhfeN2Fsy">actually happened</a>.
And both DeGeneres and O’Donnell played up a sweet, friendly brand that proved to be anything but accurate. O’Donnell’s “Queen of Nice” shtick, along with her crush on Tom Cruise, proved to be pure Hollywood fiction.
And we all know how afraid “Ellen” staffers were to be near their boss behind the scenes.
Perhaps DeGeneres’ self-imposed American exile, along with her speedy return, will end up as stand-up fodder for her next comeback attempt. Turns out even self-exiled Hollywood royalty will eventually return to the kingdom that made her rich.

Former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres confirmed what many had suspected, stating that the re-election of President Donald Trump prompted her move to the United Kingdom.
The 67-year-old comedian confirmed it on Sunday while speaking with British broadcaster Richard Bacon at an event in Cheltenham. When asked if rumors about her and wife, Portia de Rossi, leaving the United States due to the election results were accurate, DeGeneres said, “Yes,” according to the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8d638rrndzo">BBC</a>.
&#8220;We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, &#8216;He got in,'&#8221; she said. &#8220;And we&#8217;re like, &#8216;We&#8217;re staying here.’&#8221;
The talk show host also raved about her new home. 
&#8220;It&#8217;s absolutely beautiful,&#8221; DeGeneres said at the event. &#8220;We&#8217;re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture &#8211; everything you see is charming and it&#8217;s just a simpler way of life.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s clean,&#8221; she added. &#8220;Everything here is just better &#8230; the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.”
&#8220;We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.&#8221;
When asked about being openly gay in Hollywood, the comedian said it’s “still a problem.”
“People are still scared,&#8221; DeGeneres said of other public figures coming out.
During the conversation, she also mentioned the fallout from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ellen-degeneres-laughs-off-idea-shes-mean-in-final-stand-up-special?author=Katie+Jerkovich&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Ellen+DeGeneres+Laughs+Off+Idea+She%E2%80%99s+Mean+In+Final+Stand-Up+Special" target="_blank" rel="noopener">being called “mean”</a> and accused of creating a toxic work environment on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.&#8221;
&#8220;I don&#8217;t think I can say anything that&#8217;s ever going to get rid of that [reputation] or dispel it, which is hurtful to me. I hate it,” she said, per the outlet. “I hate that people think that I&#8217;m that because I know who I am and I know that I&#8217;m an empathetic, compassionate person.&#8221;
DeGeneres mentioned the possibility of doing a British talk show, but said she would choose her next project carefully. 
&#8220;I just don&#8217;t know what that is yet,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens but I&#8217;m a little bit bored.&#8221;

Comedian Rosie O’Donnell said she was “shocked” that Ellen DeGeneres moved out of the United States when Donald Trump was re-elected.
O&#8217;Donnell defected to Europe for political reasons, but didn’t think DeGeneres would do the same.
“I’ve never really known Ellen to say anything political in her life, so I was surprised to read that she left because of President Trump. Like, that shocked me, actually,” O’Donnell told <a href="https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/rosie-odonnell-details-ireland-move-and-connection-with-ellen/">US Weekly</a> in a recently published interview. “I’ve been a political person my whole life, not better or worse, it’s just a different way to be in the world.&#8221;
The “Ellen” show host and Portia de Rossi moved to the English countryside last year and have sold most of their properties in the U.S., according to <a href="https://people.com/rosie-o-donnell-shocked-ellen-degeneres-relocated-uk-11720749" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People</a>, but still have at least one home that requires them to retain a “chicken sitter.” 
Meanwhile, O’Donnell has been posting updates on TikTok about her <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rosie-odonnell-discusses-move-to-ireland-with-nonbinary-child-will-return-when-it-is-safe?author=Amanda+Harding&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Rosie+O%E2%80%99Donnell+Discusses+Move+To+Ireland+With+%E2%80%98Nonbinary%E2%80%99+Child%2C+Will+Return+%E2%80%98When+It+Is+Safe%E2%80%99">reasons for leaving</a>, which mostly have to do with concerns regarding her transgender-identifying child. She and Trump also have an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/art-of-the-feud-donald-trump-and-rosie-odonnells-beef-goes-way-back">ongoing feud</a> from years back.
“I was very clear about the reason why I was leaving, and I don’t think it came as a surprise to anyone,” O’Donnell told the outlet about her move to Ireland. She also referenced a former feud with DeGeneres, saying, “We’re not really in each other’s worlds, and it’s been kind of awkward but you know what? I wish her the best. I wish that she has peace and love in her life and that she is OK.”
“I don’t want to fight against another gay woman,” she added. “It’s not like we’re tenaciously opposed to each other. We’re just very different people. We have had some stuff in the past that we never resolved. And not in any way as, as partners or lovers or anything like that, just as friends and comedians, but I wish her the best. I seriously do.” 
O’Donnell discussed what happened between them during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” in 2022. &#8220;We had a little bit of a weird thing,” the comedian said at the time. &#8220;Larry King was on with Ellen and he said &#8216;What ever happened to Rosie O&#8217;Donnell? Her show went down the tubes! She came out as a lesbian and disappeared!'&#8221;
&#8220;And Ellen said, and I&#8217;m quoting, &#8216;I don&#8217;t know Rosie. We&#8217;re not friends,'&#8221; she continued.
O’Donnell said in 2023 that DeGeneres apologized after it happened. She also noted how it hurt because they had known each other for “years” when DeGeneres claimed not to know her. 
“She wrote, ‘I’m really sorry, and I don’t remember that.’ I guess she saw me talk about it on Andy Cohen’s show,” she told <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/feature/rosie-odonnell-ellen-madonna-trump-queer-spotlight-1235514496/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>. “I remembered it so well, I had T-shirts printed and I gave them to my staff that said ‘I don’t know Rosie. We’re not friends.”

It’s the ultimate virtue signal, and that’s saying something by Hollywood standards.
If Donald Trump wins on Election Day <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/20-stars-who-pledged-flee-country-trump-was-elected-are-they-945888/amy-schumer-9/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">I’m leaving</a> the country! That was the 2016 rally cry echoed by stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Cher, Amy Schumer, Lena Dunham, Whoopi Goldberg, Miley Cyrus and Snoop Dogg just before Trump&#8217;s improbable first term.
Spoiler alert. They stayed put. Or, as Schumer inelegantly put it, “just kidding!”
It quickly became a way to mock Celebrity Nation. Oh, you’re leaving if your preferred candidate doesn’t win on Election Day? Don’t let the door hit you where the Good Lord split you!
Mockery aside, the notion of a second Trump term coaxed some stars to make very similar complaints. The stars apparently either didn’t hear the ribbing that ensued the first time around or they didn’t care. Emotions run hot in Hollywood, so the latest election cycle found more celebrities vowing to flee should Kamala Harris’ word salad campaign fail to launch.
Oscar-nominee <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13674371/ALISON-BOSHOFF-Sharon-Stone-pledges-leave-USA-Donald-Trump-elected-President-November.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sharon Stone teased a hasty retreat</a> prior to Election Day. She told The Daily Mail in July she was planning a possible exit in a worst-case scenario.
&#8220;I am certainly considering a house in Italy…I think that’s an intelligent construct at this time. This is one of the first times in my life that I’ve actually seen anyone running for office on a platform of hate and oppression.&#8221;
We haven’t heard an update on her plans as of yet.

Barbra Streisand hedged her bets when she shared her post-election plans with “The Late Show” on CBS. She told far-Left host Stephen Colbert that she couldn’t keep living in America under a second Trump term, eyeing England as a possible destination.
We’re waiting for the moving trucks to circle her palatial estate.
Last year, Cher said this time she was seriously about leaving the USA should Trump defeat then-candidate President Joe Biden.
&#8220;I almost got an ulcer the last time. If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave [the country].&#8221;
He’s in. Again. We’ll have to wait and see if Cher’s word is her bond.

The second round of, “I’m leaving the country if Trump wins (again)” is less boisterous than the first. Plus, a tiny number of stars actually followed up on their pledge.
Sort of. To be fair, it’s … complicated.
Ellen DeGeneres, whose behind-the-scenes cruelty crushed her once-popular TV talk show, followed up on the generic, I’m gonna leave threat. She and her wife, “Arrested Development” alum Portia de Rossi, are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ellen-degeneres-reportedly-moves-to-england-after-trump-victory" target="_blank" rel="noopener">moving to</a> England.
<a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/celebrities-panic-on-trump-presidency-after-eva-longoria-now-ellen-degeneres-flees-america-heres-where-she-has-settled/articleshow/115537182.cms?from=mdr" target="_blank" rel="noopener">They’ve sold their Montecito, California, home,</a> a decision allegedly fueled by Trump’s victory. It’s ironic for a comedian to choose England, a nation where free speech has come under serious attack while President Elect-Trump vows to crush the Deep State’s censorship players.
Priorities.

The press insinuated “Desperate Housewives” alum Eva Longoria also pulled up her stakes and moved following Trump’s victory. She could have leaned into the false narrative, gaining hipster points within her Hollywood community.
Longoria, to her credit, shared <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/im-a-proud-american-eva-longoria-strikes-new-tone-says-she-didnt-leave-country-over-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the real story</a> behind her move.
“I’ve been in Europe for almost three years… By the way, the article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive, which makes me so sad. Everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can’t be that way right now.”

That ex-X list includes Stephen King, Bette Midler, Rob Reiner, Jamie Lee Curtis, Matthew Lillard, Alyssa Milano, Mark Hamill and Gabrielle Union. More may follow, including far-Left journalists like Jennifer Rubin of The Washington Post fame.

Then again, leaving X wasn’t healing enough for actor/auteur Rob Reiner. The “Misery” director left X, joined Bluesky but says he’s still so crushed by Trump’s victory that he’s <a href="https://thatparkplace.com/rob-reiner-checks-himself-into-a-facility-over-trump-election/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">checked into a “facility” for his mental health.</a>

Former talk show host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ellen-degeneres">Ellen DeGeneres</a> has reportedly had it with the United States and has already moved into a home in rural England with her wife Portia De Rossi following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.
Sources with knowledge told <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/ellen-degeneres-moved-great-britain-left-united-states-donald-trump/">The Wrap</a> that the 66-year-old comedian/actress and Rossi purchased the home in South West England &#8212; two hours outside of London &#8212; before voters in America went to the polls and voted to send Trump back to the White House.
An insider reportedly told <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/11/20/ellen-degeneres-and-portia-de-rossi-move-to-england-after-trump-election-win/#continued">TMZ</a> that the main reason for the move was because of Trump’s victory against Vice President Kamala Harris. The two were reportedly &#8220;very disillusioned&#8221; with Trump winning, and immediately decided &#8220;to get the hell out,” a source told the outlet.
Multiple reports also claimed that DeGeneres planned to put up their sprawling estate in Montecito, California, that she bought in 2019, the outlet noted.
During the election, the actress put her support behind Harris and reportedly donated $3,300 to her campaign, <a href="https://pagesix.com/2024/11/20/celebrity-news/ellen-degeneres-and-portia-de-rossi-get-the-hell-out-of-us-after-donald-trumps-presidential-win/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=pagesix&amp;utm_medium=social">Page Six</a> reported.

At one point, she talked about how this was her second ousting from show business, the first being in 1997 when she came out as a lesbian.
“Kicked me out before because I told them I was gay. No gay people in show business. They kick you out. Can’t be gay and be in show business,” Ellen joked. “Eventually they’re going to kick me out a third time for being old — mean, old, and gay, the triple crown.”
Near the end of the hour-plus special, DeGeneres looped back around again to being labeled mean and said that she&#8217;d &#8220;spent an entire lifetime trying to make people happy. And I’ve cared far too much what other people think of me.”

Earlier this year, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ellen-degeneres">DeGeneres</a> announced she’d be returning to the streaming site for an hour-long comedy special, later saying it was likely her last. She also hinted that she will talk about the end of her successful talkshow in the new special.

Former talk show host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ellen-degeneres">Ellen DeGeneres</a> told an audience she’s planning to be done with showbiz after her Netflix special.
The 66-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/comedian">comedian</a> made the remarks last week during a stop in Santa Rosa, California, on her “Ellen&#8217;s Last Stand&#8230; Up” comedy tour, per <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/sf-culture/article/ellen-degeneres-san-francisco-bay-area-santa-rosa-19551615.php">SF Gate</a>. The tour will reportedly be the basis for her upcoming Netflix show.
“Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me,” she said during the set. “I got chickens.”
“Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean,” DeGeneres added.
“I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity,” she continued.
Her popular daytime talk show ended in 2022 following a Buzzfeed report alleging a toxic workplace and personal character allegations against DeGeneres herself. One X thread <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/movies/comedian-kevin-t-porter-asks-netizens-to-share-ellen-degeneres-mean-stories-and-they-respond-2549525.html">went viral</a> after a fellow comedian asked people to share their stories about the talk show host being mean.
“I can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman,” DeGeneres continued during the recent stand-up set. “I am many things, but I am not mean.”
During a Q&amp;A session, one fan asked if the celeb planned to appear on Broadway or in movies in the future.
“Um, no,” DeGeneres replied. “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”
Another fan persisted, saying she’d love to see the former talk show host reprise her role as Dory from the animated Pixar film, “Finding Nemo.”
“No, I’m going bye-bye, remember,” she said.
DeGeneres began this comedy tour in June and recently canceled several stops without giving a reason, according to <a href="https://www.etonline.com/ellen-degeneres-says-shes-done-after-netflix-special-this-is-the-last-time-youre-going-to-see-me">Entertainment Tonight</a>. 
&#8220;To answer the questions everyone is asking me &#8212; yes, I&#8217;m going to talk about it. Yes this is my last special,” DeGeneres said in a statement about the tour. 
During a West Hollywood stop, DeGeneres <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/ellen-degeneres-quitting-hollywood-after-comedy-tour-1236065855/">said</a> it was “so hurtful” how her long-running show ended.

During the 66-year-old comedian’s recent set at a nearly-sold out San Francisco Bay area show in Santa Rosa, DeGeneres thanked fans and talked about the end of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” after 19 seasons, <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/sf-culture/article/ellen-degeneres-san-francisco-bay-area-santa-rosa-19551615.php?utm_campaign=socialflow&amp;utm_source=facebook.com&amp;utm_medium=facebook&amp;fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR2UgOYFAJjnKfe7h-kyYL5UVsLJE4W5ZctyoAfOZfi8-N6gQlp_Z7h5q7U_aem_bl6QZB2e12FbPOkIo46ZZQ">SF Gate</a> reported. A Buzzfeed report published in 2020 about “The Ellen Show” claimed it was a &#8220;toxic&#8221; workplace — full of intimidation and even alleged sexual abuse.
“Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me,” the comedian told the crowd. “I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.”
“I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me,'&#8221; she added. “Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity.”

During her set, DeGeneres pointed out that her recent ousting wasn’t the first time she was kicked out of show business, pointing back to when she said it first happened in 1997 when she came out as a lesbian. 
“Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay and mean, the triple crown,” DeGeneres joked. “I can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman.”
“I am many things, but I am not mean,” she added.
Later, during a Q&amp;A session, DeGeneres spoke with fans about what was next for her.
When asked by one fan if they will next see her in movies or maybe on Broadway, the former talk show host made it clear this is the last hurrah for her.

“Um, no,” Ellen said.  “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”
DeGeneres&#8217; appearance at the small venue is part of her working on her set in preparation for her upcoming Netflix special coming out later this year.
Following the SF Gate report about her being labeled mean, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/ellen-degeneres-cancels-four-stand-up-shows-1235938742/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hollywood Reporter</a> noted that DeGeneres had canceled four other shows as part of her tour with no explanation as to why. The shows are in July and August in Dallas, San Francisco, Chicago, and Seattle, the outlet noted.
In May, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ellen-degeneres">DeGeneres</a> announced she’d be returning to the streaming site for an hour-long comedy special, later saying it’s likely her last. She also hinted that she will talk about the end of her successful talk show in the new special.

The second special on the streaming site from the former daytime talk show host comes following her return to stand-up after 15 years in 2018’s “Relatable,” <a href="https://deadline.com/2024/05/ellen-degeneres-to-return-to-netflix-new-comedy-special-1235912082/">Deadline</a> reported.
DeGeneres has hinted that she would talk about the end of her successful talk show in the new special, which came to an end after 19 seasons in 2022 following claims that her set had been a “toxic” workplace environment.
“To answer the questions everyone is asking me – Yes, I’m going to talk about it,” DeGeneres said. “Yes, this is my last special. Yes, Portia [de Rossi], really is that pretty in real life.”

Robbie Praw, VP of Stand-Up and Comedy Formats at Netflix, said, “There is nobody quite like Ellen. She is a true legend and pioneer in so many ways. We can’t wait to bring fans another one of her hilarious comedy specials later this year.”
DeGeneres recently talked about being “kicked out of show business” for being “mean” during a comedy show at the Largo in Los Angeles, according to <a href="https://people.com/ellen-degeneres-jokes-about-getting-kicked-out-of-show-business-after-toxic-workplace-claims-8639171">People</a>.
The former talk show host claimed to have become the “most hated person in America” after the report about “The Ellen Show” being a toxic workplace — full of intimidation and even alleged sexual abuse — was published by Buzzfeed News in July 2020. DeGeneres denied knowledge of any wrongdoing but <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-ellen-apologizes-for-toxic-work-environment-i-take-responsibility">apologized</a> to employees and fans anyway.
“The hate went on for a long time and I would try to avoid looking at the news. The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline,” DeGeneres said during the show, per the outlet. 
She reminded the audience how she concluded each episode of her eponymous talk show by reminding viewers to “Be kind to one another.” DeGeneres said that line became a “problem” because viewers started seeing her as a “one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps.”
“For those of you keeping score, this is the second time I’ve been kicked out of show business …Eventually they’re going to kick me out for a third time because I’m mean, old, and gay,” she joked, referencing the fact that her show had been canceled in the 1990s shortly after she came out as gay.
“It’s been such a toll on my ego and my self-esteem,” DeGeneres <a href="https://www.fox29.com/news/ellen-degeneres-recounts-devastating-end-of-long-running-show-for-being-mean-i-got-kicked-out">added</a>. “There’s such extremes in this business, people either love you and idolize you or they hate you, and those people somehow are louder.”
“I’m making jokes about what happened to me, but it was devastating,” DeGeneres continued during a Q&amp;A portion. “It took a long time for me to want to do anything again.”
The comedian added, &#8220;I love that show so much&#8221; and “hated the way the show ended.&#8221;

DeGeneres also claimed to have become the &#8220;most hated person in America&#8221; after the report about &#8220;Ellen&#8221; being a toxic workplace full of intimidation and even alleged sexual abuse was published by Buzzfeed News in July 2020. “I take [the allegations] very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected. I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power and I realized that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show,” she said in September 2020.
The show was canceled shortly after, though it was never disclosed if the scandal was the driving decision in ending “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” after 19 seasons.

From 2015 to 2016, JoJo Siwa was on the show “Dance Moms” alongside her mother, Jessalynn Siwa. While she may not have been the best dancer, viewers always wanted to see more of her on screen. She has a big, bubbly personality and was always genuinely fun to watch. After two seasons on the show, she started a YouTube channel called “It’s JoJo Siwa,” which was a kids’ show—and kids loved her. It positively exploded. She gained a huge following and even created music for kids thereafter.
In January 2020, Siwa came out as a lesbian. Now, she is back in the news with a new podcast — “JoJo Siwa Now” — and a big announcement: She wants kids.

There are, obviously, lesbians who grow up to marry women. The women I know who have chosen this route are often women who have been abused by men in some way, be it emotional or physical. They almost experience a repulsion of men for the rest of their lives. Ellen DeGeneres has talked about the sexual abuse she experienced as a child, and she has been married to a woman for many years now.
But Siwa’s story? I have seen this story and so have you: Young girls become famous and want to break away from the child-like persona that made them famous — and they go through “a phase.” Call it a coming-of-age phase, per se. These girls are the Cyndi-Lauper-type girls who “just want to have fun.” They make out with other girls at a high school or college party, but they are not really lesbians. They grow up and out of that phase. They go on to marry a man and have children.

Take, for instance, Demi Lovato, who announced she was a lesbian, then non-binary, then back to being a woman. She is now an engaged woman. Miley Cyrus was also a temporary lesbian. She said she came out to her mom when she was younger, then she came out as a lesbian after her marriage failed with Liam. Now, she is dating a man again, a drummer who came with her to the Grammys.

 And, of course, who could forget Lindsey Lohan? She was dating Samantha Ronson for a while, another child actress who became a lesbian. But, Lohan grew up, got married, and just had a child.

So why does any of this matter? It matters because it impacts our children and because it’s relevant to the next generation. This type of behavior becomes dangerous. These women are famous and because their phase is platformed, it is treated as something more than just a phase.
JoJo Siwa has recently discussed on her podcast what coming out to her mother was like. She says she was 12-years-old. That’s right: 12-years-old. Do we assign meaning to anything that a 12-year-old says? Girls’ emotions are all over the place around that age when they are going through puberty; that is why people often say girls are much more difficult than boys when they are teenagers. Factually, a 12-year-old’s brain simply is not developed. In fact, it’s not developed until age 25.
Then, in regards to the conversation between Siwa and her mom, Siwa says, “My mom actually made my coming out to her super easy.” And when “everyone kinda caught a vibe” between her and a girl who ended up becoming her first girlfriend, her mom asked her, “Do you like her as a friend or as more than a friend?” All the while, Siwa has lots of children’s eyes watching her every move, hanging on her every word. They’re the kids who fell in love with her on YouTube, so they’re still listening to her while she makes her lesbian journey sound fun and easy.
Yet many lesbians’ journeys have been far from fun and easy. The highest domestic violence statistics exist amongst the lesbian community, with 43.8% of lesbian women and 61.1% of bisexual women having experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner. Those are facts, and they are facts that JoJo Siwa is not considering while she goes through what I perceive to plausibly be a phase in her life.

Plus, biologically speaking, lesbians cannot naturally have children. But on her podcast, she says she is looking for someone who is ready to have kids because she is “very near ready.” Siwa says, “That is something that I care very, very much about.” Now, I love that she is talking about wanting to have children and making that aspirational because that is actually not common in Hollywood whatsoever. However, she is clearly not considering the implications of being a lesbian and having children. To have children, she would have to go through IVF, a tremendously expensive, emotional, and painful process. The reality of IVF is not flippant; it is severe. Further, it is not guaranteed.
JoJo Siwa may just be wanting to separate herself from the big bow phase, but the lesbian phase may be one she looks back on with regret. Perhaps she will look to some of the women who have lived lives similar to hers to learn from where they are now because her current decisions are in the public consciousness. She is influencing the children who are following her by glamorizing these decisions, even if unintentionally so.
