California Republicans filed a federal lawsuit on Wednesday, arguing that the Democrat-drawn congressional map <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/californias-redistricting-ballot-measure-overwhelmingly-passes">approved by voters</a> Tuesday night unconstitutionally favors Hispanics.
The Dhillon Law Group filed the <a href="https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/71875910/1/tangipa-v-newsom/">lawsuit</a> on behalf of the California Republican Party, state Rep. David Tangipa, and 18 California voters. The lawsuit argues that Proposition 50 violates the Equal Protection Clause. Harmeet Dhillon led the Dhillon Law Group before President Donald Trump tapped her to lead the Justice Department&#8217;s Civil Rights division earlier this year.
&#8220;This violates the 14th Amendment&#8217;s guarantee of equal protection under the law, and the right under the 15th Amendment to not have one&#8217;s vote abridged on account of race,&#8221; Dhillon Law Group partner Mike Columbo said at a <a href="https://x.com/i/broadcasts/1OwGWenWVoZxQ">press conference</a>. &#8220;When drawing the Proposition 50 map, the chief consultant who drew the map has stated that the first thing that he did was to increase the power of Latino voters.&#8221;
&#8220;Additionally, the state legislature has announced that the maps increase the power of Latino voters,&#8221; Columbo added.
Voters overwhelmingly approved Prop 50 on Tuesday with 64% support. The measure was placed on the ballot after the Democratic-led state legislature approved new congressional maps in response to Texas passing a new map that will likely give Republicans five more House seats. With Proposition 50&#8217;s passage, Democrats have likely added five more U.S. House seats for their party.
President Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-california-redistricting-vote-is-a-giant-scam-mail-ballots-under-legal-criminal-review">said</a> on Tuesday that Prop 50 was a &#8220;giant scam,&#8221; adding, &#8220;All ‘Mail-In’ Ballots, where the Republicans in that State are ‘Shut Out,’ is under very serious legal and criminal review.&#8221; It&#8217;s unclear if Trump&#8217;s threat of legal action was in reference to the lawsuit filed by Republicans on Wednesday.
According to the complaint, Proposition 50 expanded the number of districts where Hispanic voters are likely to play a decisive role, rising from 14 to 16 of California’s 52 congressional districts. In a 1986 ruling, the Supreme Court established a three-part test, known as the &#8220;Gingles Test,&#8221; to allow states to redraw district lines to give racial minorities greater influence over who is elected to represent them. The Republican lawsuit claims that California&#8217;s new map does not meet the requirements of the Gingles Test since Hispanics make up the largest ethnic group in California and are not a racial minority in the Golden State.
&#8220;We believe that the Supreme Court Gingles Test cannot be satisfied by the state, as such under the 14th and 15th Amendments, the maps drawn by Prop 50 will be considered unconstitutional,&#8221; said Dhillon Law Group attorney Mark Meuser, who was the GOP Senate candidate in California in 2022.
Rep. Tangipa said he is &#8220;appalled&#8221; by the Democratic-led legislature and Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom pushing Proposition 50.
&#8220;As the first Polynesian elected ever to the state legislature, I understand the diversity and the beauty that this state has, and what we have seen with Prop 50, these maps, they are completely diminishing the voices of [some] groups to benefit other groups,&#8221;  Tangipa said.

As California prepares to count ballots on Tuesday, President Donald Trump questioned the state&#8217;s election integrity and called the Proposition 50 vote &#8220;unconstitutional&#8221; and a &#8220;giant scam.&#8221;
Trump said that California&#8217;s mail-in ballot process is &#8220;RIGGED&#8221; and &#8220;under very serious legal and criminal review.&#8221; Tuesday&#8217;s Proposition 50 election in California puts the state legislature&#8217;s redrawn congressional maps before voters for approval. If passed, the new maps would add to Democrats&#8217; numbers in the U.S. House.

It&#8217;s unclear if Trump&#8217;s mention of a &#8220;legal and criminal review&#8221; is referring to a federal investigation into California&#8217;s mail-in ballots or something else. The Department of Justice sent election monitors to California and New Jersey to watch polling sites and &#8220;ensure transparency, ballot security, and compliance with federal law,&#8221; CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/justice-department-election-monitors-california-new-jersey/">reported</a>.
California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom called for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inside-californias-effort-to-fight-back-against-trump-with-redistricting" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a special Proposition 50 election</a> in response to Texas passing a new congressional map that will likely give Republicans five more House seats. California Democrats called Texas&#8217;s move a &#8220;power grab orchestrated by President Trump.&#8221; The California Democratic Party said that Proposition 50 &#8220;would negate the five Republican seats drawn by Texas.&#8221;
Last month, California sent mail-in ballots to all 23 million registered voters for the Proposition 50 special election. As of Monday, 28% of California voters had cast a ballot, according to <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-11-04/polls-open-for-californias-special-election-but-how-many-people-will-show">The Los Angeles Times</a>. The mail-in votes <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/sacramento-county-ballot-envelope-holes-concerns-prop-50-election/">in Sacramento County</a> have faced <a href="https://x.com/tedcruz/status/1976745073300652466">scrutiny,</a> with some people <a href="https://x.com/Bubblebathgirl/status/1977423844936986993">claiming</a> that a &#8220;no&#8221; vote on Proposition 50 could be visible through a hole in the envelopes, allowing officials to see how people voted. Conservatives, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and the popular X account Libs of TikTok, criticized the mail-in ballots on social media.
California Secretary of State Shirley Weber, a Democrat, appeared to <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-10-14/california-ballot-design-unfounded-viral-conspiracy-theories-november-election-rigged">push back</a> against this claim, saying, &#8220;The small holes on ballot envelopes are an accessibility feature to allow sight-impaired voters to orient themselves to where they are required to sign the envelope.&#8221;
However, the Sacramento County Department of Voter Registration and Elections <a href="https://www.saccounty.gov/us/en/articles/2025-articles/response-to-special-election-ballot-envelope-posts.html#gsc.tab=0">acknowledged</a> that &#8220;there are at least eight ways to insert a ballot card into the return envelope, and only two of these might result in a bubble being visible in the hole.&#8221; But according to the department, &#8220;There is no way to determine how a voter voted through this small hole.&#8221;
Some California Republican officials also blasted the mail-in ballot theories pushed by some conservatives on social media. Los Angeles County Republican Party Chair Roxanne Hoge warned voters last month, <a href="https://x.com/RoxanneHoge/status/1976817550613999712">writing</a>, &#8220;C&#8217;mon people! If you&#8217;re worried about your vote showing through the hole, fold it the other way. Vote NO on 50!&#8221;
In another post, Hoge <a href="https://x.com/RoxanneHoge/status/1976892993790787845">wrote</a>, &#8220;Please don&#8217;t panic people about something that is easily addressed by turning their ballot around. We need every no vote and we need them now.&#8221;
The Republican Party of San Diego <a href="https://x.com/RPSDC/status/1982158321760297233">added</a>, &#8220;It&#8217;s simple. Republicans need to stop complaining and vote. We ask and ask and ask and yet turnout still lags. To win this one GOP turnout needs to be materially better than average. It&#8217;s very doable but won&#8217;t just happen. Work it.&#8221;
Trump and Republicans have also expressed concerns about mail-in ballots being sent to California&#8217;s large illegal immigrant population, who are ineligible to vote. California officials claim that the state has safeguards that prevent illegal immigrants from voting.
Recent polls <a href="https://www.sacbee.com/opinion/article312761827.html">suggest</a> that Proposition 50 will likely pass, giving Democrats even more power in the deep-blue state.

&#8220;Let&#8217;s make it clear, anyone who engages in criminal activity in New Jersey, no matter what it is there&#8217;s going to be a consequence,&#8221; Ciattarelli said. &#8220;We are going to have public safety here in New Jersey.&#8221;
And the GOP nominee made it clear there will be no sanctuary cities under his leadership.
&#8220;We will not be a sanctuary state,&#8221; Ciattarelli said. &#8220;I&#8217;m reversing that policy on day one.&#8221;
Ciattarelli also told Morning Wire that he would bring change to New Jersey schools by getting rid of the LGBTQ+ curriculum that the current administration allows.
&#8220;You will get a whole new state board of education when I&#8217;m governor,&#8221; Ciattarelli said.
Ciattarelli also said New Jersey is over the tax increases, the housing market, and the state&#8217;s overspending, just to name a few issues. He added that people are getting hit in their pocketbook, especially when it comes to electric bills, and he plans to attack head-on.
The New Jersey governor election is on November 4, 2025. The polls open at 6 a.m. ET Tuesday.

Jack Ciattarelli’s Army Son Gives Him ‘The Surprise Of A Lifetime’ Ahead Of Election Day

Last night, the three New York City mayoral candidates took the stage for a wide-ranging, heated debate, ushering in the final days of a contentious campaign.
Zohran Mamdani, the socialist frontrunner and state assemblyman, squared off against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels. Mamdani and Cuomo’s heated exchanges were the focal point of the evening, with Sliwa often fighting to get a word in edgewise.
The next mayor of NYC will oversee a $115 billion budget and manage a workforce of 300,000 people. The moderators scrutinized each candidate’s resume, with no candidate leaving the second question of the debate unscathed.
Cuomo spent a large part of the night defending himself from allegations of sexual harassment brought against him and his mishandling of the COVID pandemic, topics raised frequently by Mamdani and the moderators.
“You have the management experience, but you resigned from office amid sexual harassment and COVID-related scandals,” Telemundo’s Rosarina Bretón asked. “Why should voters trust you have the character to be mayor?”
Cuomo defended himself by noting all sexual harassment cases had been settled or dismissed, and later called the COVID-related accusations “politically motivated.” Cuomo then jumped into his executive experience, noting that the budget he managed as New York Governor is twice the size of the New York City budget. He listed several of his accomplishments as Governor, including minimum-wage laws, paid family leave, and construction projects such as LaGuardia Airport.
Cuomo used the remainder of his time to issue what appeared to be a direct blow to Mamdani, declaring the role of mayor as “no job for on-the-job training.”
When Cuomo announced his candidacy with a 17-minute campaign ad, many viewed his election to the office as a foregone conclusion. But on June 24, Mamdani shocked New York with a decisive primary victory, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/socialist-hero-zohran-mamdani-owes-his-victory-to-rich-new-yorkers-not-the-working-class" target="_blank" rel="noopener">upsetting Cuomo 56% to 44%</a> in the final ranked choice vote tally.
Sliwa, a longtime fixture in New York City, pitched himself as the only candidate who really understands New Yorkers, having spent the most time in the city’s outer boroughs and riding public transit. Sliwa insisted he wasn’t running for “a title or paycheck,” and pledged he would staff his administration with the “best and brightest” who have dedicated their lives trying to improve the city of New York.
Moderators addressed Mamdani’s lack of experience, asking the assemblyman if he was “ready to lead the nation’s largest and greatest city in the world?”
“I have the experience of being a New Yorker.” Mamdani began, “I’ve paid rent in the city, waited for a bus in the city, and bought groceries in the city.”
Mamdani also added “watching a politically broken system, securing $500,000 in debt relief for taxi drivers, and delivering five no-fare buses” to his management skills.
Mamdani’s answer led to a heated exchange between him and Cuomo.
“He literally has never had a job,” fired Cuomo, “He interned for his mother. Any day you could have a hurricane, God forbid a 9/11, a health pandemic. If you don’t know what you’re doing, people could die.”
Mamdani spent the rest of the night rebuffing two attacks: his extreme views on Israel and Hamas, and his untenable socialist policy proposals. Moderators pressed Mamdani on his refusal to condemn the slogan “globalize the intifada,” which many view as a call to arms, and on lyrics from his 2017 rap career praising the “Holy Land Five” — <a href="https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa/pr/federal-judge-hands-downs-sentences-holy-land-foundation-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">men who were convicted of funneling dollars to Hamas in 2008.</a>
Thanking the moderators for the opportunity to explain his past rhetoric, Mamdani told potential voters that after conversations with Jewish New Yorkers, he now “discourages this language.”
That wasn’t enough for Cuomo, who repeatedly accused Mamdani of refusing to condemn Hamas.
Controversial statements have haunted Mamdani throughout the campaign. In 2020, he publicly supported defunding the police and government housing over private property ownership. Today, he champions a platform that includes increasing the $17 minimum wage to $30, free child care, free buses and subways, government-run grocery stores, and rent freezes for rent-stabilized tenants.
Mamdani’s policies would cost the city $10 billion. This week on Fox News, Mamdani said he would raise taxes on the 1% by 2% to pay for his plans. However, Governor Kathy Hochul pledged to reject his tax hike proposals, an obstacle Mamdani attempted to dodge during the debate.
When asked, Mamdani declined to use the debate stage to endorse Hochul. So did Cuomo and Sliwa.
Since the debate, Mamdani has maintained his double-digit lead in the polls.

WASHINGTON—Dominion Voting Systems, the voting machine system at the heart of many of Donald Trump’s election disputes over the past few years, has been acquired by election reform advocate Scott Leiendecker.
Leiendecker, who previously served as a Republican elections director for St. Louis, will assume full ownership and operational control of Dominion Voting Systems, which will now be renamed “Liberty Vote.” He intends to restore public confidence in electoral processes through the use of transparent and reliable voting systems.
That includes using hand-marked paper ballots.
“Liberty Vote signals a new chapter for American elections — one where trust is rebuilt from the ground up,” Leiendecker explained in a Thursday statement, promising a commitment to “delivering election technology that prioritizes paper-based transparency, security, and simplicity so that voters can be assured that every ballot is filled in accurately and fairly counted.”

Leiendecker promises 100% American ownership, American staffing, and software development. He’s also focused on using paper ballots, in compliance with President Donald Trump’s <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/preserving-and-protecting-the-integrity-of-american-elections/">executive order on</a> “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections,” to ensure that American elections are secure and comply with federal standards.

He also plans to incorporate “rigorous, industry-leading third-party auditing standards to verify election integrity at every step,” according to a press release from Liberty Vote. The election technology company promises to champion “reforms designed to ensure every American’s vote is protected and counted accurately.”

Donald Trump and his allies accused Dominion Voting Systems of switching votes from Trump to then-presidential candidate Joe Biden or deleting votes altogether during the 2020 presidential election. Dominion filed a number of defamation lawsuits against Trump’s allies and top conservative media outlets like Fox News and Newsmax over the allegations (Fox News settled with Dominion and agreed to pay $787 million, and Newsmax settled for $67 million).
The controversy has left many Trump supporters with a negative and distrustful view of Dominion. Leiendecker and Liberty Vote believe they can earn and exceed voter trust through their commitment to transparent systems, third-party auditing, a focus on paper ballots, and 100% American ownership.

News broke last week that Ian Andre Roberts, an illegal alien arrested in Iowa while serving as superintendent of Des Moines schools, appears to be an active <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/illegal-alien-arrested-ice-found-registered-active-democrat-voter-blue-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">registered</a> Democratic voter in Maryland.
All Roberts apparently <a href="https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/2025/09/30/dmps-superintendent-ian-roberts-claimed-doctoral-degree-morgan-state-university/86431683007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">had to do was sign a form</a> “under penalty of perjury” claiming to be a United States citizen. Then, Maryland officials registered him and left him on the rolls for nearly a decade. Were it not for his high-profile arrest, he would likely have stayed on the rolls.
This latest discovery of a noncitizen on our voting rolls — and not even in the state where he was illegally working and residing — should end the debate: It is time for Congress to pass the SAVE Act and require proof of citizenship to register and vote. When it comes to verifying that voters are citizens, Americans deserve better than an honor system.

Federal law, shaped by years of partisan lawsuits, ties the hands of states. Even if Maryland officials wanted to verify claims of citizenship before registering a voter — and there is every reason to believe they do not — federal law bars them from doing so. All noncitizens like Roberts have to do to register is check a box.
That is simply not good enough.
That is not to suggest that Maryland officials are free from blame. It is scandalous that a noncitizen was apparently left on the rolls for so long, doubly so given that Roberts had not lived in Maryland for years. That is a series of failures that warrant investigation.
And that may only scratch the surface. Maryland’s administrator of elections, Jared DeMarinis, recently <a href="https://x.com/MDFreedomCaucus/status/1972752823243673959" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rebuffed</a> a Justice Department request to inspect state voter rolls in part due to concerns that “the voter registration list will be used for enforcement of immigration laws against Maryland residents.”
Just how many more noncitizens do Maryland officials think are on state rolls?
The fact is, noncitizens can and do register to vote. Last year alone, <a href="https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-announces-over-1-million-ineligible-voters-removed-from-voter-rolls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Texas</a> and <a href="https://www.ohiosos.gov/media-center/press-releases/2024/2024-08-21/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ohio</a> announced they had discovered noncitizens on their rolls, <a href="https://www.opb.org/article/2024/09/23/voter-registration-noncitizen-oregon-motor-voter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Oregon</a> mistakenly registered 1,259 noncitizens, and Virginia had to fight off a <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/supreme-court-temporarily-halts-lower-court-ruling-ordering-1600-voters-back-virginia-voter-rolls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lawsuit</a> from the Biden Justice Department trying to force the Commonwealth to put self-identified noncitizens back on its rolls.
The Left wants it to be easy for noncitizens to register and hard for states to stop them. It’s time to reverse that paradigm.
That’s where the <a href="https://roy.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/roy.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/FINAL_SAVE%20Act%20One-Pager%20%282%29.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SAVE Act</a> comes in. The bill, which passed the House of Representatives earlier this year, requires states to verify citizenship before registering anyone to vote in federal elections. Americans would simply be asked to provide routine documents, such as a birth certificate or a passport, to prove citizenship. That’s something Americans already routinely do when getting driver’s licenses and REAL IDs. And since most voters get registered at the DMV, compliance is easy.
The public overwhelmingly supports this. A 2024 Gallup <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/652523/americans-endorse-early-voting-voter-verification.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survey</a> found that an incredible 83% of Americans think voters should have to prove citizenship. Nearly everyone understands that confidence in elections depends on laws that bring transparency, accountability, and security to the process. Proving citizenship is the first and most basic step.
Despite the public consensus, congressional Democrats — eager to placate the angriest voices on the far Left — almost uniformly oppose the SAVE Act. They argue that noncitizen voting is rare, but ignore that each illegal vote cancels out the ballot of an American citizen. When many races each year are decided by fewer than 10 votes, just a few fraudulent ballots could make all the difference.
Democrats also claim that married women who change their names would be disenfranchised, but that argument is absurd on its face. Married women have no problem getting REAL IDs, which already require Americans to provide proof of citizenship. And the SAVE Act has numerous safeguards built into the bill to ensure that no eligible citizens are barred from the voting process.
This scandal is a wake-up call. The honor system for demonstrating citizenship is fundamentally flawed, and it is time for Congress to fix it. The Senate should <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections-watchdog-urges-senate-gop-close-noncitizen-voting-loophole" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pass</a> the SAVE Act and send it to President Trump without delay. Americans deserve to know that only citizens are voting in American elections.

Missouri Republicans sent a new congressional district map to the desk of Governor Mike Kehoe on Friday.
The map is expected to create one more Republican-favored congressional district in the deep red state. The Senate passed the map 21-11 on Friday after the House passed the same map earlier in the week. President Donald Trump praised Missouri lawmakers for passing the map.
“Thank you very much to the Great State of Missouri for the redistricting, which will, hopefully, give us an additional Seat in Congress! A new, much fairer, and much improved, Congressional Map, has now overwhelmingly passed both Chambers of the Missouri Legislature,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump added that the map “will help send an additional MAGA Republican to Congress in the 2026 Midterm Elections. It is wonderful to see Republicans in the &#8216;Show Me State&#8217; standing up to Save our Country, and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
The map is expected to yield a 7-1 congressional seat advantage for Republicans as opposed to the current 6-2 map.
Senator Nick Schroer, a Republican and member of the state’s conservative Freedom Caucus, told The Daily Wire that Republicans previously created a special carve-out district for Kansas City area Democrat Rep. Emanuel Cleaver last time the maps were passed. The new maps will not split St. Charles County or Warren County like the current map does.
“So by way of keeping these counties back together, creating a map that is compact and contiguous, in essence, it&#8217;s making that seat more competitive,” Schroer told The Daily Wire.
While Democrats accused Trump of meddling in the state’s politics, Republican lawmakers praised him for his advocacy for new maps in the state.
“To that point, this has been absolutely refreshing to have a president that is so involved and communicates so well to state legislatures,” Rep. Holly Jones told The Daily Wire. “That has been amazing that the administration wants to work with us so closely.”
That sentiment was echoed by Rep. Justin Sparks.
“Having a presidential administration recognize that in order to get his mandate and his agenda passed that he has to work with the state legislatures to get that accomplished has been refreshing and very effective, and we&#8217;ve been very happy to help,” Sparks told The Daily Wire.
Texas passed new maps earlier this year that are expected to create five more Republican-favored seats.

Missouri Republicans Pass Map To Send ‘Additional MAGA Republican To Congress’

OTTAWA (Reuters) — The leader of Canada&#8217;s official opposition Conservatives, Pierre Poilievre, secured a return to Parliament and a chance to grill Prime Minister Mark Carney over U.S. tariffs, staging a comeback after unexpectedly losing his seat in an April election.
Unofficial results from Elections Canada on Tuesday showed Poilievre had easily won a special election on Monday in the parliamentary constituency of Battle River-Crowfoot in the western Canadian province of Alberta, a Conservative stronghold. Poilievre secured about 80% of the vote, according to Elections Canada.
Poilievre, who accuses the Liberal government of botching its handling of U.S. relations, will be able to confront Carney when the House of Commons returns on September 15.
Carney, who took over as prime minister in March, secured a strong minority government in April&#8217;s federal election, while Poilievre lost the Ottawa-area seat he had held for 21 years.
Carney won on a promise to stand up to U.S. President Donald Trump but has since moderated his approach even as Washington imposed more tariffs.
&#8220;Mark Carney has been failing. He&#8217;s failed, he&#8217;s backed down, he&#8217;s made concession after concession vis-a-vis the Americans,&#8221; Poilievre told a press conference last Thursday.

Carney, however, is in no immediate danger politically. Although the Liberals fell three seats short of a majority in April, they should be able to rely on the support of smaller parties to survive confidence votes.
A Nanos Research poll earlier this month put the Liberals at 44% popular support compared with 33% for the Conservatives.
Carney has pulled the Liberals more to the center, and Poilievre will find it harder to draw a sharp contrast, said pollster Nik Nanos, CEO of Nanos Research.
&#8220;Poilievre needs to articulate what he learned from the last federal election and how his government would be different than a Carney government,&#8221; he said via email.
At the start of the year, the Conservatives looked set for a crushing election victory over the Liberals of then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who were far behind in polls after more than nine years in power.
But Liberal fortunes soared after Trudeau announced he was stepping down and Trump began threatening Canada with tariffs and annexation.

Former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is ready to run for office again after losing his Senate seat to Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) in the 2024 election amid reported controversies.
Brown will challenge Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) in the 2026 election, cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer first <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/news/2025/08/sherrod-brown-to-run-for-us-senate-in-2026-challenging-jon-husted.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Tuesday, citing Ohio labor leaders. As of press time, Brown had not formally announced his campaign, but other news outlets have confirmed his plans.
In a story published last month, Brown told <a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/07/03/2025/former-ohio-sen-sherrod-brown-weighs-next-political-move" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Semafor</a> that &#8220;everything&#8217;s on the table&#8221; while &#8220;talking to family and friends&#8221; and deciding whether he “want[s] to get back in and do this.&#8221; He also said, &#8220;I’m concerned about the direction of my state; I’m concerned about the direction of my country. So I don’t know.&#8221;
Brown, a former Ohio secretary of state and congressman, first <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/politics-july-dec06-oh_sen_11-07" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won election</a> to the Senate in 2006 against incumbent Mike DeWine, who went on to become governor. During his three terms in the Senate, Brown served as chairman of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

In the 2024 election, Brown ran for a fourth term against Moreno, a businessman who was endorsed by now-President Donald Trump. Estimates show roughly <a href="https://apnews.com/article/election-2024-senate-ohio-brown-moreno-74c4b91e5866215d4201377fefcadad0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$500 million</a> was spent on that Senate contest, which POLITICO <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2024/11/05/2024-election-results-live-coverage-updates-analysis/bernie-moreno-wins-ohio-senate-00185143" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dubbed</a> the most expensive non-presidential election in U.S. history.
Moreno <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/11/05/us/elections/results-ohio-us-senate.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defeated</a> Brown 50.1%-46.5%. Trump&#8217;s margin of victory over then-Vice President Kamala Harris in Ohio was much larger, with the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/11/05/us/elections/results-ohio.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">final </a>results coming in at 55.2%-43.9%.
Brown will now face off against Husted, who was selected by Governor DeWine to temporarily replace JD Vance after he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vice-president-elect-jd-vance-submits-resignation-from-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resigned</a> from his seat in the Senate in order to become vice president. The winner will serve out the remainder of the term that ends in 2029.
Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/07/28/schumer-sherrod-brown-ohio-senate-meeting-2026" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had been urging Brown to get back in the ring, a push that comes as Democrats hope to retake control of the upper chamber. But Husted&#8217;s team shrugged off the pending challenge.
&#8220;Should Brown enter the race as Schumer&#8217;s handpicked candidate he will be starting in the biggest hole of his political career,&#8221; Husted campaign spokesman Tyson Shepard <a href="https://x.com/jpelzer/status/1955287609938190756" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement posted to X by Jeremy Pelzer, the reporter who broke the story.
&#8220;He has never faced a candidate like Jon Husted,&#8221; Pelzer continued. &#8220;Brown&#8217;s slogans will ring hollow as his coalition walks away, tired of the radical policies he&#8217;s forced to support to appease his coastal bosses in California and New York.&#8221;

President Donald Trump said on Thursday morning that illegal immigrants will not be included in the next census, adding that he has ordered the Commerce Department to begin working on a &#8220;new and highly accurate census that is based on results from the 2024 presidential election.&#8221;
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, which falls under the Commerce Department, the first major <a href="https://www.census.gov/newsroom/blogs/random-samplings/2024/2030-census-planning-what-2024-brings.html">field test</a> for the 2030 census is set to take place in 2026, with another coming in 2028.
&#8220;I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114987220997209419">wrote</a> on Truth Social. &#8220;People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS.&#8221;
The Census Bureau also <a href="https://www.census.gov/topics/population/foreign-born/about/faq.html">says</a> that illegal immigrants, whom it refers to as &#8220;unauthorized migrants,&#8221; are included in censuses and surveys and added into &#8220;the total foreign-born population.&#8221;
&#8220;The U.S. Census Bureau uses the term foreign born to refer to anyone who is not a U.S. citizen at birth. This includes naturalized U.S. citizens, non-citizen U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents (immigrants), temporary migrants (such as foreign students), humanitarian migrants (such as refugees and asylees), and unauthorized migrants,&#8221; the bureau says.
Trump&#8217;s directive to remove illegal immigrants from the census could run into legal challenges. Section 2 of the 14th Amendment <a href="https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay/amdt14-S2-1-1/ALDE_00000847/">states</a>, &#8220;Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed.&#8221;
Trump is placing his focus on the census as Republicans and Democrats fight over redistricting in Texas ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Republicans are also seeking to prevent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/blue-states-benefited-from-2020-census-mistakes-as-red-states-suffered-losses">census errors</a> from benefiting Democrat-led states in future elections, an issue from the 2020 census that the Census Bureau acknowledged in 2022.
Following the 2020 census, the government said that multiple red states, including Florida and Texas, were incorrectly undercounted, which led to them not receiving as many seats in Congress — which also determines electoral college votes — as they should have. Most of the overcounted states in the census were Democrat-led, including New York, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.
If the federal government follows through on Trump&#8217;s pledge to stop counting illegal immigrants in the census, a handful of states — both red and blue — could see their population numbers fall in 2030. According to a Pew Research <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/07/22/what-we-know-about-unauthorized-immigrants-living-in-the-us/">survey</a> from last year, three states have illegal immigrant populations of more than one million: California (1.8 million), Texas (1.6 million), and Florida (1.2 million). As of 2024, New York had an illegal immigrant population of 650,000, New Jersey had 475,000, and Illinois had 400,000.

&#8220;This weekend, Secretary of State [Marco] Rubio said that he thought JD Vance would be a great nominee,&#8221; Doocy said. &#8220;You could clear the entire Republican field right now. Do you agree that the heir-apparent to MAGA is JD Vance?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, I think most likely, in all fairness,&#8221; Trump replied. &#8220;He&#8217;s the vice president. I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form.&#8221;
The president, however, wasn&#8217;t ready to give a full-throated endorsement to Vance as the 2028 Republican nominee.
&#8220;I also think we have incredible people, some of the people on the stage right here, so it&#8217;s too early obviously to talk about it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;But certainly, [Vance] is doing a great job, and he would be probably favored at this point.&#8221;

Those on stage alongside Trump included Vance, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

“Well, I think JD Vance would be a great nominee,” Rubio said. “And if you know, I think if he decides he wants to do that. And so, you know, and I think he’s doing a great job as vice president. He’s a close friend. And I hope he intends to do it.”
Rubio added that he wants to stay in his role as Secretary of State &#8220;as long as the president allows me to do it &#8230; which would keep me here all the way through January of 2028.&#8221;
Multiple people in the current Trump administration are viewed as potential contenders in a 2028 Republican primary, which would be the first presidential election cycle without Trump in the race since 2012.

Trump Reveals Who Will ‘Most Likely’ Be The 2028 Republican Nominee

A House Republican is set to introduce a bill to prevent states from enacting mid-decade redistricting plans that could reshape the balance of power in Congress.
The offering from Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) comes as Texas lawmakers <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-republicans-drop-new-congressional-map-that-would-flip-5-democrat-seats-red" target="_blank" rel="noopener">consider</a> a GOP-led redistricting plan that could turn five Democratic seats in the House red ahead of the 2026 elections, a move that prompted California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom to warn that his state might redraw its maps in retaliation before the midterms.
While the legislation seeks to stop all states from redrawing their maps before the 2030 census, Kiley is particularly focused on California.
Kiley’s office <a href="https://kiley.house.gov/posts/rep-kiley-to-introduce-redistricting-legislation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Newsom is looking to overturn a decades-long California Supreme Court precedent banning mid-decade redistricting and bypass the voter-approved Independent Citizens Commission. Should the Democrat governor go through with such a plan, it could threaten several Republican-held seats — including the one held by Kiley, who represents a district around Sacramento and Lake Tahoe.
“Gavin Newsom is trying to subvert the will of voters and do lasting damage to democracy in California,” Kiley declared in a <a href="https://kiley.house.gov/posts/rep-kiley-to-introduce-redistricting-legislation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>. “Fortunately, Congress has the ability to protect California voters using its authority under the Elections Clause of the U.S. Constitution. This will also stop a damaging redistricting war from breaking out across the country.”
President Donald Trump has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-gop-can-get-five-more-house-seats-redistricting-just-one-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushing</a> Texas and other states to draw their congressional maps with the expectation that Republicans would gain seats. However, the president also indicated that his administration would sue California if it tried to create more Democratic-leaning districts.
“We’ll fight them. You know, they’re so corrupt in California,” Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-gop-can-get-five-more-house-seats-redistricting-just-one-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> last month. “You never know what’s going to happen, but we’ve done pretty well in the courts in California, as you see. We’re batting about 1,000, ultimately. We start off a little slow, and then we get a lot of hits.”
Newsom fired back at Republicans in response to a GOP proposal for redrawing districts in Texas that would ostensibly eliminate five Democratic seats.
“Donald Trump asks for 5 seats and Greg Abbott automatically bends the knee. The 2026 election is being rigged. California won’t sit back and watch this happen,” Newsom <a href="https://x.com/GavinNewsom/status/1950575761448124564" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
The battle over redistricting is heating up as dozens of Democratic lawmakers fled Texas to deny the quorum needed to advance that state’s redistricting proposal. Texas GOP Governor Greg Abbott has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abbott-to-awol-texas-democrats-respect-voters-or-be-removed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatened</a> a bid to have the AWOL Democrats removed from office if they do not return by Monday afternoon, in addition to potential charges.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul, another Democrat, has <a href="https://x.com/cspan/status/1952400698697466250" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signaled</a> interest in redrawing state congressional maps, too, if Republicans proceed with mid-decade redistricting in states they control.
