Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said Thursday that she will skip next month&#8217;s Michigan Democratic Party convention because she fears being harassed, adding another flashpoint to a party increasingly divided over Israel and antisemitism during a bitter U.S. Senate primary.
Speaking during a <a href="https://michiganadvance.com/2026/07/30/nessel-says-she-wont-attend-michigan-dems-convention-over-safety-concerns/">roundtable</a> discussion with Jewish leaders and community members, Nessel said she no longer feels safe attending the party&#8217;s August 29 convention in Lansing after what she described as repeated harassment.
&#8220;I feel like my presence isn&#8217;t going to be welcome. I don&#8217;t want to get chased around. I don&#8217;t want to get harassed. I don&#8217;t want to get yelled and screamed at. I don&#8217;t want to get booed off the stage, irrespective of what I&#8217;m saying,&#8221; Nessel said. &#8220;And I believe that if I go, that is what will happen because it&#8217;s been happening to me.&#8221;
Nessel also criticized Democratic Party leadership for failing to adequately respond to concerns she said she had repeatedly raised about individuals who have targeted her, warning that antisemitism on the political Left has become a growing problem within the party. 
&#8220;I will speak as a member of the Democratic Party here in Michigan, that some things have changed,&#8221; Nessel said. &#8220;This cannot continue, and the fact of the matter is, we have to be able to be a society where we can have intelligent discourse and debate about ideas without people being threatened, and certainly without people carrying out those threats.&#8221;
Her comments come as Michigan Democrats are engaged in one of the country&#8217;s most closely watched Senate primaries, with the party&#8217;s ideological divide over Israel increasingly spilling into public view.
Left-wing candidate Abdul El-Sayed has embraced some of the Democratic Party&#8217;s most vocal anti-Israel activists during the campaign, including <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hasan-piker-michigan-senate-race-abdul-el-sayed/">campaigning</a> with far-Left political streamer Hasan Piker. Third Way, a center-left think tank, <a href="https://x.com/ThirdWayTweet/status/2036484738022596671?s=20">condemned the partnership</a>, calling Piker &#8220;anti-American, anti-women, anti-western and antisemitic&#8221; and arguing he should be &#8220;pushed to the fringe, not welcomed onto the stage.&#8221; El-Sayed dismissed the criticism in an interview with <a href="https://michiganadvance.com/2026/03/25/michigans-el-sayed-unfazed-by-backlash-against-upcoming-campaign-event-with-hasan-piker/">Michigan Advance</a>, portraying it as an attack from establishment Democrats and &#8220;corporate-funded think tanks.&#8221;
Former Senate candidate <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/influential-democrat-drops-out-of-primary-in-key-senate-battleground?trueLinkId=6JvjPnkjnAeCumQ6ZN%2BoGpNLJEFZ07Awl5KNTB6i2A1L44xz%2BMg08Mz8M%2BYvzzUKo9coheltLMaAYibfZ9nbDQ%3D%3D&amp;trueLinkTs=1783452774&amp;trueLinkExpiry=43200">Mallory McMorrow</a> has also acknowledged antisemitism within the Democratic Party, recounting an incident at the Democratic National Convention in which, she said, an attendee shouted an antisemitic slur at her Jewish husband while he was walking with their five-year-old daughter. 
&#8220;There is,&#8221; McMorrow <a href="https://jewishinsider.com/2026/05/mcmorrow-says-dems-have-an-antisemitism-problem-during-mich-senate-debate/">replied</a> when asked whether antisemitism was a problem within the party. &#8220;That is terrifying,&#8221; she added.
El-Sayed, by contrast, argued that antisemitism and Islamophobia both stem from &#8220;the scourge of white supremacy&#8221; before pivoting to criticism of U.S. support for Israel. 
&#8220;We can walk and chew gum at the same time,&#8221; El-Sayed said. &#8220;It should not mean that we allow our money to subsidize apartheid and genocide.&#8221;
Responding to Nessel&#8217;s decision not to attend the convention, Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Derrick Honeyman said the party remains committed to ensuring the gathering is safe for all attendees. 
&#8220;We reject antisemitism, Islamophobia, and all forms of hateful conduct,&#8221; Honeyman said. &#8220;We are working diligently with stakeholders, elected officials, and party membership to prepare for our August convention and look forward to welcoming Michigan Democrats to the Lansing Center on August 29.&#8221;

Kalshi on Wednesday launched its Midterm Elections Hub, the first-ever election dashboard fueled by &#8220;the wisdom of the crowd.&#8221;
The latest venture from the country&#8217;s largest prediction market features polling averages, fundraising data, historical results, and campaign news and analysis, as well as access to Kalshi&#8217;s election markets. The company says the hub will provide accurate, unbiased forecasts of midterm races based on where people are risking real money.
“Prediction markets don’t care about spin or partisanship. They cut through polarization and show you what the wisdom of the crowd actually believes, backed by real money, not rhetoric,” Kalshi co-founder and CEO Tarek Mansour said in a press release. “That kind of clarity is rare right now and that’s what people are getting with the Midterms Hub.”
Millions of Americans already use Kalshi to see what other citizens predict will happen in upcoming elections. According to the market, roughly 75% of visitors check odds while 25% are actively trading. Kalshi’s new site gives an unfiltered, view of how an election is currently taking place. The Midterms Hub will update by the second based on breaking news, speeches, polls, and more.
Kalshi being powered by the “wisdom of the crowds” allows their markets to be perfectly aligned to up-to-date predictions on candidates winning their respective race, which has been proven for years.
In every American election since 2024, candidates favored to win on Kalshi won roughly 90% of the time.
The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/06/23/why-prediction-markets-election-picks-are-useful-even-when-they-seem-wrong/">analyzed</a> hundreds of the 2026 primary races on the prediction market. It found that candidates priced “70-80%” odds on Kalshi won “75%” of the time, confirming Kalshi’s proclaimed “statistically calibrated” 2024 election markets.
The Midterms Hub also builds on Kalshi’s recent release of KPOW, the American Power Index. KPOW will combine information on who currently holds seats of power with what the prediction market expects to happen next. It will give a number on a scale from +50D, full Democratic control, to +50R, full Republican control.
Kalshi will mark the hub&#8217;s launch today in Washington, D.C., at an event featuring a live demonstration of the hub and a panel featuring Mansour, Republican pollster Kristin Soltis Anderson, and former White House Director of Digital Strategy Rob Flaherty.

Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) incorrectly described Virginia&#8217;s own voter identification law during a Sunday interview, prompting a correction from the host of a Democrat-friendly network.
The awkward exchange came on ABC&#8217;s &#8220;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrsZthfIo9M">This Week</a>&#8220; with host Jonathan Karl, as Warner criticized President Donald Trump&#8217;s election security agenda and defended Democratic opposition to the SAVE America Act, legislation that would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
Karl asked Warner whether Democrats should embrace photo voter identification requirements, noting that polls consistently show broad public support for voter ID laws.
&#8220;You know what? In Virginia, we have voter voter ID and photo ID,&#8221; Warner responded.
Karl immediately corrected the senator. &#8220;That&#8217;s actually not the case,&#8221; Karl replied. &#8220;I mean, I&#8217;m a Virginia voter. You don&#8217;t need to show a photo ID in Virginia. There are a wide range of things you can show for ID. And if you don&#8217;t show one of those, you can sign an affidavit.&#8221;
Warner attempted to recover by arguing that Virginia still has &#8220;voter ID of one form or another,&#8221; before pivoting back to criticizing Republican-backed election reforms.
Under Virginia law, voters may present numerous forms of acceptable identification, including certain government-issued IDs and other approved documents. If a voter does not have acceptable identification, he or she may sign an ID Confirmation Statement affirming their identity and cast a regular ballot. Virginia does not require voters to present a photo ID in order to vote.
The exchange occurred after Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, spent several minutes attacking Trump&#8217;s election security policies, arguing foreign adversaries such as Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China continue to pose cyber threats to American elections. 
Warner argued that Republicans were using the issue to suppress turnout through the SAVE America Act. 
&#8220;The SAVE Act is about voter disenfranchisement,&#8221; Warner said. &#8220;The SAVE Act is going to take anybody that changed their name when they got married. They don&#8217;t get to vote unless they go back and find [proof of a name change].”
Warner also argued that some Republican-led states permit voters to use gun-related identification while refusing to accept student IDs. 
&#8220;The irony here would be the case if you can show any photo that is government stamped would be fine,&#8221; Warner said. &#8220;Certain states will say we&#8217;re going to let you show your &#8230; NRA gun license but you can&#8217;t show your student ID.&#8221;
While some states do accept certain handgun carry permits as valid identification, a majority of those same states also permit qualifying student IDs for voting under specified circumstances.

Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson has all but secured the Democratic nomination in one of the nation&#8217;s most closely watched Senate races after dominating the party&#8217;s delegate selection process over the weekend, prompting his two strongest rivals to suspend their campaigns ahead of next week&#8217;s state convention.
Jackson <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2026/07/19/troy-jackson-likely-maine-senate-nominee-platner-01004490">won</a> overwhelming victories across Maine&#8217;s county meetings, with more than two-thirds of the 601 delegates pledging to back him at Saturday&#8217;s Democratic convention in Bangor. While delegates are not formally bound to support him, there has been little indication that his commanding lead will erode before the final vote.
The rapid consolidation around Jackson comes less than two weeks after Democratic nominee Graham Platner <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/graham-platner-ends-senate-bid-with-profane-political-message">ended his campaign</a> following allegations that he sexually assaulted a former girlfriend, accusations Platner has denied. His withdrawal forced Maine Democrats to scramble to choose a replacement with less than four months remaining before Election Day.
Jackson&#8217;s emergence as the presumptive nominee also represents a continuation of many of the themes that powered Platner&#8217;s campaign. Like Platner, Jackson has campaigned as a Left-wing populist focused on working-class voters, Medicare for All, and confronting corporate power. A logger from northern Maine and former president of the state Senate, Jackson also enjoys close ties to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who previously endorsed his gubernatorial campaign.
The results quickly reshaped the race, as both Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and former Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah suspended their campaigns as the delegate math became increasingly lopsided. 
&#8220;A few weeks ago, I entered this race because I could not accept the idea of Susan Collins gliding to a sixth term,&#8221; Shah said in a <a href="https://x.com/nirav_maine/status/2078960353405190321">statement</a> announcing his withdrawal. &#8220;Today, I am stepping aside &#8230; because we must defeat Susan Collins, and the Democratic Party must be unified to do it.&#8221;
Shah formally endorsed Jackson, arguing Democrats could not afford divisions heading into November. Jackson himself struck a similar tone after securing a majority of delegates, telling supporters that defeating Republican Sen. Susan Collins would require expanding the coalition rather than narrowing it.
&#8220;Whether you supported me from the beginning, or are still deciding, or support another candidate, there is a place for you in this movement,&#8221; Jackson said during a rally Sunday. &#8220;Because we&#8217;re not going to defeat Susan Collins by making this movement smaller.&#8221;
The delegate victories were driven in large part by Jackson&#8217;s organizational strength. Backed by much of Maine&#8217;s organized labor movement and many volunteers who had previously supported Platner, Jackson swept many of the state&#8217;s largest counties, including nearly every available delegate in Cumberland County, Maine&#8217;s most populous county.
Jackson now faces a compressed timeline to challenge Collins, who is seeking a sixth Senate term and enters the race with a substantial fundraising advantage and decades of statewide electoral success. The Democratic nominee will have roughly three months to pitch himself to voters across Maine while attempting to unify a party still recovering from Platner&#8217;s dramatic exit.
If officially nominated Saturday, Jackson will become Democrats&#8217; latest attempt to unseat Collins, one of the GOP&#8217;s most durable incumbents despite representing a state that has consistently favored Democrats in presidential elections.
For national Democrats, the race remains one of the party&#8217;s best pickup opportunities as they seek to regain control of the Senate in November.

A Thursday night speech from President Donald Trump on “free and fair elections” may not be broadcast on any of the major channels. 
The network television stations — ABC, NBC, and CBS — have not yet committed to airing the primetime speech. The speech, expected to focus on election integrity, is set for 9:00 p.m. EST and will be streamed by The Daily Wire and across the White House social media channels. 
No adjustments to the channel&#8217;s primetime <a href="https://www.tvinsider.com/network/cbs/schedule/">schedules</a> have been made yet, and representatives from the networks have not commented on their plans when asked by media outlets, including The Daily Wire. 
Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2026/07/16/trump-speech-elections-networks?utm_source=chatgpt.com">reported</a> that officials from the networks “declined to comment” when asked if they would broadcast the speech, while Status reporter Natalie Korach reported that officials had yet to “divulge their coverage plans” for the speech. The Daily Wire reached out to representatives from the networks for comment. 
Trump said earlier this week that his speech would focus on “free and fair elections.” 
&#8220;It&#8217;s really, really big news, and our country has to shape up. That&#8217;s what we&#8217;re going to be talking about Thursday,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It doesn&#8217;t get bigger because without free and fair elections, you don&#8217;t have a country.&#8221;
While various reports have suggested that the speech could focus on alleged election fraud in Georgia or Chinese election interference, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt kept the topic of the speech broad when asked by Axios. 
&#8220;President Trump will deliver a major address to the nation on protecting the integrity of our elections. We encourage every American to watch the president&#8217;s speech,” she said. 
The speech comes as Trump has repeatedly pushed Republicans in Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which would require photo ID to vote in federal elections.
MS Now reported that Trump plans to discuss newly declassified intelligence reports on foreign efforts to interfere in the 2020 presidential election. The White House would not confirm the report, referring The Daily Wire to Trump’s public remarks.
Washington Reporter journalist Matthew Foldi reported, citing “a well-placed source in Georgia,” that Trump could declare that Georgia Democratic Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock “are illegitimate because of fraud.”
Trump and the broadcast channels have fought for years, and the president has sued both CBS and ABC News. 
A lawsuit against CBS over its selective editing of a “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris resulted in a $16 million settlement for Trump. The president was also paid $16 million to settle a defamation lawsuit against ABC over comments by host George Stephanopoulos.

Democratic socialist Melat Kiros upset incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) in the primary for Colorado&#8217;s 1st congressional district on Tuesday night as the far-Left continues its hot streak in Democratic contests.
With 93% of the vote counted as of Wednesday morning, Kiros <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-primary-elections/colorado-us-house-district-1-results">holds</a> 51.3% to DeGette&#8217;s 41.7%, with Wanda James, another candidate in the race, taking 7%.
DeGette, who has held the House seat for as long as 29-year-old Kiros has been alive, will likely be replaced by Kiros after the general election. Kiros will be heavily favored over Republican nominee Christy Peterson in the general election in a district that last elected a Republican in 1970.
Kiros, endorsed by democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), <a href="https://www.kirosforco.com/priorities-2#">wants</a> to increase publicly owned housing, make college tuition free, hike the corporate tax rate from 21% to 50%, end at-will employment, create an AI moratorium, abolish ICE, allow gender-affirming care for all ages, and invest in &#8220;community-based&#8221; emergency response teams over police.
Kiros, who was born in Ethiopia and immigrated to the United States with her parents when she was an infant, also <a href="https://x.com/EYakoby/status/2072145312743915590">proposed</a> giving immediate citizenship to all illegal immigrants in the United States.
&#8220;Abolishing ICE is just one step &#8230; I think there has to be an immediate pathway for every single undocumented immigrant that&#8217;s here in this country today that doesn&#8217;t require them to shell out thousands of dollars to go through the process,&#8221; she said.
The leftist Democrat has also faced criticism over recent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/october-7-comments-put-dsa-backed-candidate-under-scrutiny?author=Leona+Salinas&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=October+7+Comments+Put+DSA-Backed+Candidate+Under+Scrutiny">comments</a> she made on the 9/11 and October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks, arguing that 9/11 was the result of American foreign policy and October 7 was “the inevitable consequence of apartheid.”
Kiros has spent the majority of the last decade in school, obtaining an economics and political science degree from Washington College, a law degree from Notre Dame, and is currently pursuing her PhD in public affairs at the University of Colorado. She currently works as a barista while running for Congress. 
She was an attorney for about 15 months before she was fired after criticizing her own law firm and other firms for signing a <a href="https://aboutblaw.com/bbju">statement</a> that pushed for deans to address antisemitic language and protests on college campuses after Hamas&#8217; October 7 attack on Israel. In her own letter in November 2023, Kiros <a href="https://medium.com/@melatakiros/dear-us-law-firms-77ec63e838af">claimed</a> she was confused why calls for the elimination of the Israeli state were seen as antisemitic. 
Kiros is the latest democratic socialist to cruise to a primary victory after three radical leftists won their primaries in New York last week. Some sitting Democrats are embracing the radical newcomers.

Kiros told SiriusXM radio, &#8220;People are seeing that capitalism is responsible for a lot of the degradation that we&#8217;re seeing in our economy, in our democracy, in our climate.&#8221; She attributes socialism&#8217;s rise to people &#8220;demanding a new way to organize our economy, our government and making sure that&#8217;s all centered on working families and protecting basic needs.&#8221;

The Supreme Court on Monday allowed states to count mail-in ballots received after Election Day, rejecting a lawsuit brought by the Republican National Committee that would&#8217;ve upended voting rules in more than a dozen states ahead of the November midterm elections.
In a 5-4 ruling, authored by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, the high court held that nothing in federal election-day statutes prohibits states from counting late-arriving mail-in ballots. 
&#8220;The election-day statutes say nothing about ballot receipt, and we cannot add to the words Congress chose,&#8221; Barrett wrote in the opinion. Chief Justice John Roberts also joined the court&#8217;s liberal wing to form a majority.
&#8220;This is not a case about the Constitution. We do not consider the scope of Congress’s authority to regulate federal elections,&#8221; Barrett added. &#8220;The sole question before us is whether counting ballots postmarked by election day, but received up to five days later, violates the federal election-day statutes.&#8221;
It’s a stinging defeat for election-security advocates, including President Donald Trump, who has long criticized the practice. <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116834002761429397">On Truth Social</a>, Trump called the ruling a &#8220;tremendous loss&#8221; and renewed calls for Republicans to pass the SAVE America Act. 
&#8220;If we want fair and secure elections, Election Day should mean exactly what it says, which is why this decision makes it even more imperative that Congress pass the SAVE America Act,&#8221; RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said in a statement to The Daily Wire. &#8220;Democrats are inviting chaos at the ballot box by allowing elections to drag on for days and weeks after voters cast their ballots. Republicans are not going to be deterred by this decision, and the RNC will keep fighting to have elections end on Election Day as Americans want.”
 Mail-in ballots have become a key target for conservatives following California’s recent primary, where leftist Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman advanced to the November mayoral election after nearly a week of counting late-arriving ballots, locking Republican Spencer Pratt out of the race. 
The Supreme Court case centered on a challenge to a Mississippi law that allowed a grace period for mail-in ballots. 
Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh dissented. 
&#8220;It opens up and fails to resolve a host of questions for state election officials and courts,&#8221; Alito wrote in a scathing dissent. &#8220;And it creates a serious risk of further undermining public confidence in our elections and our system of self-government.&#8221;
Before the case reached the Supreme Court, the Mississippi Republican Party and the Republican National Committee (RNC) sued the state, arguing that its law violated <a href="https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/3/1">federal statutes</a> enacted by Congress in 1845 establishing the Tuesday after the first Monday in November as “Election Day.” <a href="https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/2/7">In 1872</a>, Congress extended that requirement to congressional elections as well, <a href="https://www.scotusblog.com/2026/03/court-appears-ready-to-overturn-state-law-allowing-for-late-arriving-mail-in-ballots/">according to SCOTUSblog</a>.
The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Mississippi, saying that federal law preempted state law and required all ballots to be received by Election Day. 
Trying to overturn the 5th Circuit, Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson asked the Supreme Court to weigh in. Watson argued to the court that the 5th Circuit’s decision “defies statutory text, conflicts with this Court’s precedent, and — if left to stand — will have destabilizing nationwide ramifications,” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/supreme-court-to-hear-critical-challenge-to-mail-in-ballots">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported. 
He said that as long as the ballots had been filled out by Election Day, they should be counted. Nineteen mostly blue states and the District of Columbia are supporting Mississippi in its efforts to reverse the lower court’s decision. 
The RNC disagreed, noting that accepting ballots after Election Day could delay election results for weeks. 
“Many States can’t conclude their elections for weeks after election day because they’re still receiving ballots from voters. Weeks after the ‘day for the election’ has come and gone, the elections in those States continue,” they wrote in a brief. 
In executive orders, President Trump has <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/preserving-and-protecting-the-integrity-of-american-elections/">called</a> for an end to mail-in voting, alleging the practice opens the door to election fraud.

President Donald Trump took a shot at the far-Left wing of the Democratic Party on Thursday and sent a message to &#8220;communists&#8221; after radical candidates won multiple elections in New York earlier this week.
Trump suggested that he wasn&#8217;t surprised to see far-Left candidates, such as Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier, and Brad Lander, win their primaries for the U.S. House. Valdez, Chevalier, and Lander are all backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani — and Chevalier and Lander defeated Democratic incumbents.
&#8220;The Communists are finally making their move,&#8221; Trump wrote on <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116813173401388945">Truth Social</a>. &#8220;I’ve been waiting and preparing for this for a long time. It’s easy to be a Communist — All you have to do is say, &#8216;I’ll give you everything,&#8217; but that means you’re taking it away from others that have earned it. Over thousands of years, that Ideology has not worked once. The game is on. Enjoy watching!&#8221;
While the New York radicals who won their primaries identify as &#8220;democratic socialists,&#8221; they have been accused of pushing ideas that are indistinguishable from communist talking points. Chevalier was even asked recently to respond to people describing her as a communist, and she refused to address it.
&#8220;You know, I think that framing is one that I&#8217;ve been very proud to say that I don&#8217;t respond to, one in which I have been very intentional to say I won&#8217;t be reactive,&#8221; Chevalier told MS NOW anchor Ali Velshi. &#8220;We are presenting a vision of what we&#8217;re fighting for, and I think that for far too long, we have had politics that is reactive to what Republicans are doing. What we need is Democrats who are actually going to present a positive vision, one that sets the tone for what we should be talking about, which is the issue of affordability.&#8221;

Along with calling for the government to seize private property, Chevalier has also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrats-newest-pick-is-their-most-radical-yet">called</a> to abolish police and borders, disparaged the American flag, and refused to condemn Hamas’s October 7 terrorist attack on Israel.
Valdez and Lander have also pushed leftist economic views, such as rent freezes, a policy being actively pursued by Mayor Mamdani in NYC. Valdez, meanwhile, has called for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, expanding universal healthcare, increasing taxes on higher earners, and strengthening labor unions.
Shortly after New York democratic socialists won on Tuesday night, Trump said, “America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!!”

Socialist candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier is likely to become Congress’ most radical member after she won the Democratic primary in New York&#8217;s 13th congressional district, which has not elected a Republican under its current redistricting lines.  
Chevalier has called to abolish police, disparaged the American flag, and refused to condemn Hamas&#8217; October 7 terrorist attack on Israel. She also does not support any form of deportation — including of illegal immigrants who are convicted of murder, rape, and battery.
“The reason I say that is because we have a criminal system. It is imperfect. But it exists,” she said. “We need to make sure it is one that isn’t also discriminatory on the basis of where people were born, right?” She went further to explain that deporting someone and having them serve time in jail is “double punishment.”

The topic came up as Chevalier was grilled about her controversial X posts. The 32-year-old Democratic nominee has also <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/01/politics/kfile-ny-13-darializa-avila-chevalier-deleted-tweets-defund-abolish-police-prisons-deportations">called</a> for abolishing the police and seizing private property. During the primary debate against incumbent Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat, Chevalier said she believes the best way to curb crime is through alleviating poverty via social safety net funding, affordable housing, after-school programs and addressing the opioid crisis rather than “militarized police.” Chevalier unseated Espaillat on Tuesday.
She also <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/16/us-news/mamdani-backed-foe-of-espaillat-apologizes-for-nasty-tweets-in-feisty-debate/">criticized</a> former Vice President Kamala Harris posting on X, “F*ck Kamala Harris.” For that she said, “I sincerely apologize. I would love to see a black woman president.” 
She told MS NOW’s Jen Psaki that the issue of affordability ultimately motivated her to run because she is “someone who has had to live with the question of whether I can afford to stay in the city I love.”
Chevalier has walked back another one of her posts that <a href="https://x.com/foxandfriends/status/2069818658910519452">read</a>, “I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me.” However, in an interview on Tuesday, she abruptly left in the middle of questions into her past statements, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/16/us-news/mamdani-backed-foe-of-espaillat-apologizes-for-nasty-tweets-in-feisty-debate/">saying</a> she felt regret for some of her past posts, but added that it was time to “fight for the things that are necessary for the community.”

Chevalier has spent the majority of her career in higher education. She served as an administrative assistant and research assistant at Columbia University. Before starting a seven-year PhD program at City University of New York, she served as a community organizer and activist. Chevalier was elected alongside two other socialist candidates who were also backed by New York City democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), one of Congress&#8217;s most outspoken supporters of Israel, easily defeated a Left-wing primary challenger Tuesday night, surviving an effort by leftist activists to unseat him and drawing an angry response from anti-Israel communist commentator Hasan Piker.
Torres cruised to victory in New York&#8217;s 15th congressional district, defeating former state Assemblyman Michael Blake by a wide margin. With nearly all votes counted, Torres captured roughly 72% of the vote compared to Blake&#8217;s 22%.
The result represents a significant victory for one of the Democratic Party&#8217;s most prominent pro-Israel voices at a time when leftist activists have increasingly targeted lawmakers who support the Jewish state. Among those reacting furiously to the outcome was Left-wing streamer Piker, who has frequently clashed with Torres over Israel, antisemitism, and foreign policy.

Piker continued by warning Torres that he would continue scrutinizing the congressman&#8217;s pro-Israel positions. &#8220;Every day, every time there&#8217;s a decision that you can make where you are pro-Israel, I hope you remember. … You better act right, Ritchie.&#8221;
The remarks highlight a years-long feud between the congressman and one of the internet&#8217;s most influential leftist commentators.
Torres has repeatedly accused Piker of spreading antisemitic rhetoric and promoting anti-American extremism. In 2024, Torres sent a <a href="https://ritchietorres.house.gov/congressman-ritchie-torres-writes-to-executives-at-twitch-and-amazon-hasan-piker-is-dangerous">letter</a> to Twitch and Amazon executives condemning Piker, whom he described as a major source of antisemitic content online.
The congressman&#8217;s letter cited a series of controversial statements from Piker, including comments minimizing the significance of sexual violence committed during Hamas&#8217;s October 7 attack on Israel, remarks sympathetic to Hezbollah, and his infamous claim that &#8220;America deserved 9/11.&#8221;
Torres also accused Piker of platforming extremists and helping fuel the rise of antisemitism on social media.
Despite becoming a frequent target of attacks from his left flank, Torres has continued to carve out a unique position within the Democratic Party. The Bronx congressman formally broke with the Congressional Progressive Caucus in 2024 and has become one of the most forceful Democratic critics of anti-Israel activism.
Blake attempted to capitalize on growing dissatisfaction with Israel among Democratic voters and had previously aligned himself politically with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during last year&#8217;s mayoral race.
However, Mamdani notably stayed out of the congressional contest, depriving Blake of the endorsement many on the Left of Torres hoped would help unite the anti-Torres vote.
Torres also enjoyed a massive fundraising advantage throughout the campaign. Federal filings showed the congressman raising nearly $6.7 million compared to roughly $412,000 for Blake.
The decisive victory suggests that while socialist and leftist candidates scored several victories elsewhere in New York on Tuesday, efforts to oust Torres failed to gain meaningful traction among Democratic voters in the Bronx.
Instead, voters handed Torres another overwhelming primary victory and rejected one of the highest-profile attempts by the Democratic Party&#8217;s activists to punish a lawmaker for his support of Israel.
For Piker and other anti-Israel activists who have spent years attacking Torres online, Tuesday night&#8217;s results amounted to a clear setback. For Torres, they served as another demonstration that his brand of unapologetic support for Israel remains politically viable even as much of his party continues moving Left on the issue.

Outspoken Zionist Dem Defeats Hasan Piker-Backed Primary Challenger

All three socialist candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani won their Democratic primaries for U.S. House in New York on Tuesday night, including two far-Left candidates who knocked out incumbent Democrats. 
In New York&#8217;s 10th congressional district, former New York City comptroller Brad Lander handily defeated his opponent, incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman, receiving approximately <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-primary-elections/new-york-us-house-district-10-results">66%</a> of the vote. In New York’s 7th district, New York State Assemblymember Claire Valdez won her race with about <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-primary-elections/new-york-us-house-district-7-results">56%</a> of the vote, and in the 13th district, leftist community organizer Darializa Avila Chevalier <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-primary-elections/new-york-us-house-district-13-results">defeated</a> incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat by less than four percentage points, according to the results as of Wednesday morning. 
The results highlight the growing popularity of democratic socialist candidates in New York, sparked by Mamdani&#8217;s victory last November. 
“When Zohran won, it was a sign of what could happen and what was possible,&#8221; the Sunrise Movement, a Left-wing activist group, said in response to Tuesday night&#8217;s results. &#8220;Young people have taken over New York City and we are going to Congress. Young people, who are unapologetically Democratic-Socialist. Tonight marks the end of the bought out, boomer establishment Democrats.&#8221;
In a social media post, the group added, “WATCH OUT CHUCK SCHUMER!! YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN OVER THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!!!” 
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) did not endorse Mamdani for mayor. 
Valdez and Chevalier are members of the Democratic Socialists of America, while Lander previously belonged to the organization before leaving following disagreements over its response to the October 7 Hamas attacks.
Valdez has <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mamdani-backed-socialist-prevails-crowded-primary-replace-retiring-rep">called</a> for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, expanding universal healthcare, increasing taxes on higher earners, and strengthening labor unions. Chevalier has advocated abolishing police, prisons, and national borders.
Mamdani&#8217;s endorsement of Chevalier drew scrutiny after several of Chevalier&#8217;s past social media posts resurfaced. In one post, she wrote, &#8220;I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me.&#8221; Her former X biography also listed her location as &#8220;Lenapehoking (NYC),&#8221; a reference to the ancestral homeland of the Lenape people.
Mamdani said he had not seen the controversial posts before endorsing Chevalier but stood by his decision after they became public. Defending his endorsement, he told CNN, &#8220;In Congress, she&#8217;ll take on corporate greed, bad landlords, and D.C.&#8217;s broken political system. At a time when power is concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, Darializa will fight in Congress for New York City&#8217;s working families. She&#8217;s the champion we need for a city New Yorkers can actually afford.&#8221;
Mamdani&#8217;s wife, Rama Duwaji, also publicly encouraged her Instagram followers to support Valdez and Chevalier, but she did not post an endorsement of Lander. Resurfaced social media activity from Duwaji has drawn criticism, including posts in which she questioned Israel’s legitimacy and <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/nyc-first-lady-liked-post-oct-7-rape-hoax">liked</a> an Instagram post that described allegations of sexual violence on October 7 as a “mass rape hoax.”

Trump endorsed Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones, but on Monday, Donald Trump Jr. put out a statement praising Jones’ rival, Rick Jackson. Trump Jr. clarified that his post was not an endorsement.
&#8220;Regardless of what happens in the Georgia Governor’s race tomorrow, we should celebrate the patriots building up MAGA and an America First economy like Rick Jackson has,&#8221; Trump Jr. <a href="https://x.com/DonaldJTrumpJr/status/2066590785756418413">wrote</a>. 
&#8220;When China threatened our amoxicillin supply, Rick saved the last amoxicillin manufacturing facility in America because he knows we can’t let China control our entire supply of antibiotics,&#8221; he added. &#8220;When the U.S. faced an oil refining shortage and the woke banks wouldn’t finance a new one, Rick stepped up again and became the largest outside investor. This has been a hard-fought race with a lot of mudslinging, but I know Rick Jackson to be a good man and that counts for a lot.&#8221;
Trump Jr. added that either outcome would be a win for conservatives. &#8220;By the way, this is not an endorsement of Rick and I think Burt Jones is a great guy too. My only point is that no matter who wins tomorrow, it’s a victory for MAGA.&#8221;
President Trump endorsed Jones last summer and then reaffirmed his endorsement in a post on Truth Social in March.

He&#8217;s done a great job,&#8221; <a href="https://www.facebook.com/burtjonesforga/videos/a-message-from-president-trump/1514950866924504/">said</a> Trump in a video endorsement.
President Trump and Georgia’s current Republican governor, Brian Kemp, have had a tumultuous relationship. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kemp was the first governor to reopen the state in late April of 2020, just weeks after the emergency lockdown was called.
At the time, Trump had urged Kemp to wait, but Kemp diverged from the president and reopened Georgia. It would not be the last time Kemp went against Trump’s wishes. The governor also certified the 2020 presidential election results from Georgia despite Trump&#8217;s objections, securing 16 electoral votes for then-Democratic nominee Joe Biden. Kemp, who is term-limited, also endorsed Jones.
The Kalshi prediction market favors Jones over Jackson in the runoff. The winner will face Democratic nominee and former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.
Jones, once a prominent oil executive, has served as the state’s lieutenant governor for the last three years. Jackson, like the president himself, is a self-made billionaire. Jackson grew up in foster care and founded his first healthcare company in the Atlanta area in 1978. He has spent over $100 million of his own money on his race.
