The “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” backed by President Donald Trump and awaiting passage in the Senate, would revolutionize how colleges distribute student loans, disincentivizing schools from saddling students with debt for degrees that don’t lead to employment.
The move would not just provoke left-wing colleges that have been a thorn in Republicans’ side, but also provide a practical, good-governance change that could save taxpayers billions and prevent people from being saddled with student loan payments they can&#8217;t afford.
Under the bill, colleges will have “skin in the game,” meaning if they churn out dropouts or graduates with a particular major who can&#8217;t afford to pay their student loans, the college will have to eat those costs. That makes it in their interest to discourage people from going into debt for programs in useless or low-quality fields, admitting students who are unlikely to be able to complete a useful program, or charging such high tuition that the increase in earnings isn&#8217;t worth it.
Colleges will no longer be able to admit an endless stream of people who take $150,000 in student loans for a gender studies degree when half of them default on their loans and stick taxpayers with the bill. Schools will have to reimburse the federal government for missed loan payments based on the percentage in a “program of study,” meaning a major within a particular school, who drop out or don’t see increased earnings based on the degree.

A “value-added earnings” amount is calculated for graduates of each program based on their median salary four years after completing an undergraduate or doctoral degree, or two years after an associate’s or master’s degree. It looks at how much higher that salary is than 150% of the poverty level for those with undergraduate degrees, or 300% of the poverty level for people with graduate credentials. The number is further adjusted based on the cost-of-living in the metro area of the university, even though graduates may not be working in that region.
How much money schools have to repay is based on the relationship between total tuition cost and value-added earnings. Divide the median value-add by median cost of attendance. That&#8217;s the percentage of missed principal and interest payments that taxpayers will eat. Colleges must reimburse the government for the rest.
Let’s say a class of students spends four years earning degrees in critical race theory, with tuition of $50,000 a year, totaling of $200,000. Four years after that, at 26 years old, they are making a median of $30,000 in their jobs. The poverty level is $15,650, so college graduates should be expected to make more than 150% of that, or $23,475. That means the CRT program has value-added earnings of $6,525. Divide that by the cost of attendance, and you get 3%. When those graduates failed to make loan repayments, the colleges would have to eat 97% of the revenue that would otherwise be lost by taxpayers.
Left-wing colleges have also put taxpayers and impoverished young people at risk by lowering admissions standards — often in the name of diversity, equity, and inclusion — to the point where huge portions of those admitted aren&#8217;t capable of college-level work and wind up dropping out. Then, they default on their loans since they incur costs but do not earn a degree.
The <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1/text">Big Beautiful Bill</a> would force colleges to own the results of their admissions decisions, with a separate reimbursement rate for missed student loan payments by people who dropped out of a given academic program. Colleges would have to reimburse the government for dropouts&#8217; missed loan repayments based on the percentage of community college students who didn&#8217;t graduate in six years, and other students who didn&#8217;t complete the program within 150% of its expected time.
Let&#8217;s say a disreputable college is admitting people with abysmal math SAT scores, and using them as cash cows to pay reams of administrators and faculty who claim they&#8217;re making math majors out of them. All of the students are impoverished and pay tuition using student loans, and six years later, only half of them actually graduated. The other half defaulted on their student loans, missing a combined million dollars in payments per year. The school would have to reimburse the federal government for half of that amount, or $500,000.
The bill&#8217;s education provisions are aimed not just at mitigating taxpayers&#8217; losses, but correcting the root cause: colleges should not admit people who are likely to drop out, and they should not encourage people to take on debt to major in things like art history. If they do offer majors that don&#8217;t lead to gainful employment, they can protect their bottom line by making sure tuition is low, making it easier to hit the required ratio.
The rates are calculated only based on people who take student loans, so if people really want to major in dance, knowing that most of them won&#8217;t make money, they can do so if they pay using private sources of funding. Colleges are also empowered to protect themselves the same way banks do when making an investment they know is risky, by limiting the amount of student loans people can use for particular majors.
The bill also stops students from taking out huge amounts of student loans. That comes after President Joe Biden waived billions of dollars in loan repayments, even though a court told him he didn’t have the authority. Democrats pushed the initiative by highlighting the sob stories of people who had hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans, and whose lives have been ruined as a result.
Republicans say the best policy solution is making sure people never get in that situation to begin with. The bill caps lifetime federal student loans to $200,000, plus $50,000 in federal loans in a parent&#8217;s name. That will provide a strong disincentive for colleges to raise tuition, because they would lose out on many prospective customers if they do.
It also prevents the president from using executive orders or regulations that “would result in an increase in a subsidy cost.” Typically, when Democrats have tried to make college more affordable by subsidizing more of the cost, colleges simply raise tuition by that amount and pocket the proceeds.
&#8220;Colleges should have a stake in their students’ success and be responsible for reimbursing taxpayers for a portion of their losses if students don’t see financial value from enrolling in an institution and can’t repay,&#8221; Republicans on the House Committee on Education and Workforce said.
&#8220;Students, families, and the federal government pay tens, sometimes hundreds, of thousands of dollars in tuition while many degrees offer students no additional value but leave graduates with debt. Too many are left worse off than if they never enrolled in the first place.&#8221;

The bosses of the nation&#8217;s biggest teachers unions and progressive congresswoman Pramila Jayapal <a href="https://www.c-span.org/program/public-affairs-event/rally-in-protest-of-immigration-raids/660984">showed</a> up outside the Department of Justice on Monday to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Los Angeles, shouting and cursing about &#8220;justice&#8221; and the Constitution.
Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, bounced up and down as she led a chant, &#8220;The people united will never be defeated!&#8221;
At one point, Weingarten apologized to God for cursing about the ICE raids.
&#8220;Fix the godd*** immigration laws! Don&#8217;t arrest workers!&#8221; Weingarten said. &#8220;Sorry, God. Sorry. Sorry, God.&#8221;
Riots erupted in Los Angeles over the weekend in response to ICE raids. Rioters burned multiple cars and smashed windows at the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters as police struggled to respond.

The boss of the largest teachers union, Becky Pringle of the National Education Association, spoke at the protest as well.
&#8220;Enough! Enough! Enough of the ICE raids! Enough of the cruelty and the hate! Enough of the division and the disrespect!&#8221; Pringle shouted.
&#8220;We know what this administration is doing, so we are saying to Donald Trump and all of his allies, we will not scapegoat immigrants!&#8221; Pringle said.
Pringle mentioned the recent Pride festivities in Washington, D.C., and paraphrased writer Audre Lorde, a self-described &#8220;black, lesbian, feminist, socialist, mother, warrior, poet.&#8221;
&#8220;Deliberate and unafraid, we will say, everyone is welcome here!&#8221; Pringle said. &#8220;Deliberate and unafraid, we will fight for justice everyday, all day, for everyone. Deliberate and unafraid, we will stand united until this country listens to the poetry of its Constitution.&#8221;
&#8220;We the people! We the people! We the people! All of us! All of us have that right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of justice!&#8221; Pringle shouted.

Liz Shuler, president of the AFL–CIO, which represents nearly 15 million union workers, also spoke at the protest and spoke Spanish to emphasize her point.

In a state initiative with potential national implications, school districts across California are navigating the complexities of meeting the state’s looming Ethnic Studies requirement. This mandate, based on <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB101">Assembly Bill 101</a> (AB 101) signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom in October 2021, stipulates that students graduating during the 2029–2030 school year must complete at least one semester of Ethnic Studies. California stands as the first state to enact such a requirement, aiming to ostensibly foster cultural understanding through core concepts of equality, equity, justice, and the study of race and ethnicity, as outlined in the California <a href="https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/cr/cf/esmc.asp">Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum</a>.
As I reported previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-a-new-ethnic-studies-curriculum-promotes-anti-semitism-in-california">here</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/systems-of-power-ca-ethnic-studies-program-continues-to-radicalize-students">here</a>, the Northern California Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD) took an ambitious approach to implementing this requirement, going beyond the basic framework typically adopted by other districts, incorporating content in English (multiple years across 9th through 12th grades), History, and Art classes. With grant funding, PVUSD hired Allyson Tintiangco-Cubales, Founder and Co-Director of Community Responsive Education (CRE), whose controversial model curriculum had previously been rejected by the state for being excessively divisive and antisemitic. Despite public outcry — particularly from the Jewish community — over the district’s reliance on the rejected curriculum, PVUSD persisted through two rounds of consultation with CRE. The third round, however, stalled amidst growing dissent.
In 2024, the Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers, including supporters of CRE, mobilized to <a href="https://santacruzlocal.org/2024/11/13/pajaro-valley-school-board-shake-up/">change the composition</a> of the school board in the November elections. They successfully unseated three incumbents, replacing them with challengers ready to renew the contract with CRE. By April, the new board approved the final contract, signaling a shift toward dismissing community concerns. This change was epitomized by radical activist board member Gabriel Medina, who <a href="https://youtu.be/P54-FSXpoRo?si=V_mzHNecKvxy7Eb8">labeled</a> opposition to the curriculum as “propaganda” and accused dissenters of being “segregationists” intent on undermining marginalized communities. Listening to Medina’s characterizations of America in both March and April meetings, one would think we currently live under the rule of the Antebellum South.
Conversely, the Glendora Unified School District (GUSD) in Southern California adopted a more cautious strategy. District staff proposed an Ethnic Studies pilot course outline for the 2025–2026 school year, leveraging the state-approved model curriculum which focuses on four historically marginalized groups: African Americans, Chicano/Latinos, Native Americans, and Asian American/Pacific Islanders. Presented in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/9YkxqZ-rG2M">February</a> by the history and social science representatives, the pilot course adhered to the one-semester requirement.
However, the proposal faced scrutiny from the board for its lack of detailed content and transparency regarding implementation. At the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/9YkxqZ-rG2M">May</a> school board meeting, board members raised concerns about community opposition to perceived influences of Critical Race Theory (CRT) within the curriculum’s theoretical frameworks. While Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Prince emphasized that CRT was not the course’s focus, the board remained wary of its potential influence. Respecting community input, the board voted 3–2 against moving forward with the pilot course, citing the unfunded mandate of AB 101 as well as the need for further clarity and safeguards.
Unlike PVUSD, GUSD’s board demonstrated respect for all viewpoints, emphasizing the importance of community concerns alongside the practicalities of Ethnic Studies implementation. They expressed openness to revisiting the curriculum once AB 101 funding is secured and a more detailed outline addressing community hesitations is developed.
Even though local districts are not required to do so, GUSD leveraged the state’s model curriculum, which <a href="https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/cr/cf/documents/esmcchapter3.pdf">explicitly encourages</a> educators adopt a CRT lens as follows: “Teachers and administrators… should familiarize themselves with current scholarly research around ethnic studies instruction, such as critically and culturally or community relevant and responsive pedagogies, critical race theory, and intersectionality, which are key theoretical frameworks and pedagogies that can be used in ethnic studies research and instruction.”
This stance from the state model curriculum highlights the ongoing tension between ideological and non-ideological approaches to the subject. During public commentary, one speaker <a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/9YkxqZ-rG2M?si=8ZeNIDT9H45sRzv1">recommended</a> the Independent Institute’s <a href="https://www.independent.org/research/ethnic-studies-curriculum/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Comparative Cultures Ethnic Studies Curriculum</a> as a viable alternative. Unlike the state framework, this curriculum examines the diverse tapestry of American history, portraying both its challenges and triumphs to emphasize unity over division.
Although the Comparative curriculum was unavailable at the outset of GUSD’s Ethnic Studies journey, it remains an option worth considering for the district moving forward. As a panelist at its launch last year, I can attest to its efficacy as a balanced, non-partisan resource that aims to foster inclusivity without isolating specific groups. While it may be too late for PVUSD to revise its course, GUSD still can chart a different path — one that prioritizes connection and collective growth over ideological division.
The contrasting approaches taken by PVUSD and GUSD illustrate the complexities of implementing California’s Ethnic Studies mandate. While PVUSD’s path has fueled divisiveness and polarized community relations, GUSD’s measured approach reflects a willingness to adapt and address concerns thoughtfully. As school districts across the state grapple with fulfilling AB 101, GUSD’s restraint and respect for diverse perspectives offer a model for navigating this challenging — but vital — initiative.

An event at Princeton University on April 7 featuring the former Prime Minister of Israel, Naftali Bennett, was disrupted and later forced to end by anti-Israel student-activists, who, while masked, then targeted the attendees with antisemitic verbal attacks as they left the event. But Princeton has still not punished the student-activists.
“First came chants about ‘genocide,’” The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/opinion/princeton-naftali-bennett-protest-israel-hamas-christopher-eisgruber-1a8f203e?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=ASWzDAirg9z9ydWMIOEDmp4dTLRiKljtvi6ACet8f06hhiKLAQW6YzDarXYT3fXV0bE%3D&amp;gaa_ts=6837034c&amp;gaa_sig=lWHn6lI0Qgoi7Z6neLaf8m0i3ZbqF0FaEmSQCqINz3w4lpqJ8Hx76uykVzZQ5shmHbqtO_ZFexclffWQA25jkQ%3D%3D">reported</a>. “Then the hall’s fire alarm was triggered. ‘Outside the building, about 200 pro-Palestine protesters chanted, screamed and banged on drums,’ the Daily Princetonian said. Two students wrote&#8230;to President Christopher Eisgruber that people in the crowd yelled ‘go back to Europe,’ and that agitators aimed ‘triangle imagery at Jewish students, in reference to the Hamas symbol used to target Western enemies.’”
Christopher L. Eisgruber <a href="https://paw.princeton.edu/article/princeton-opens-investigation-after-protesters-disrupt-event-former-israeli-prime-minister">stated</a> that he was “appalled at reports of antisemitic language directed by demonstrators at members of our community after” the event, and added that &#8220;the University is investigating and will pursue disciplinary measures as appropriate, to the extent any members of the Princeton University community are implicated.”
Princeton wrote in a letter to Danielle Shapiro, a May graduate who serves on the board of Princetonians for Free Speech (PFS), that no students would be punished. Shapiro <a href="https://www.khq.com/princeton-fails-to-enforce-its-rules-on-free-speech-antisemitism/article_aced6d66-0e1a-5f7b-a522-feedb65c5e9c.html">noted</a>, “The university says it cannot punish people who were shouting antisemitic slurs because it cannot identify them since it was dark and they were wearing masks. Yet the university says nothing about implementing a policy banning masks in certain situations, even though I specifically requested it do so and even though many universities are doing so, including the entire University of California system.”

“We searched carefully and could find no public announcement, no press release, nor anything on the University’s website about the investigation’s results,” Princetonians for Free Speech <a href="https://princetoniansforfreespeech.org/blogs/news/princeton-declines-to-punish-students-who-disrupted-event-and-shouted-antisemitic-slurs-in-violation-of-rules">stated</a>. “The only mention of it we can find anywhere is a short story in the Princeton Alumni Weekly on May 21. It appears that on that date, <a href="https://paw.princeton.edu/sites/default/files/2025-05/Statement%20About%20Bennett%20Investigation%20May%2021.pdf">Princeton sent an email summary of the report to PAW</a>, and possibly to a few others. But this was, as Ms. Shapiro notes in her article, after she had indicated to Princeton officials that she might make the letter public. Is Princeton trying to hide this report and, with the end of the school year, duck the entire issue?”
“The May 21 statement underplays what happened, as is shown on videos,” PFS pointed out. “For example, the statement adds gratuitously: ‘Several witnesses expressed their view that the individuals who made the antisemitic remarks outside the venue were likely unaffiliated with the University.; Really? First, they were not ‘remarks;’ they were screaming insults of the vilest kind. Second, this is total speculation, not fact, and probably from people who had a self-interest in leaving that impression. We do not know because the report does not say who they were. The University says it cannot identify anyone because it was dark and protesters were wearing masks, and yet cites this speculation. How could the ‘witnesses’ know?”

Princeton Won’t Punish Antisemitic Students Who Disrupted Event, Hurled Verbal Attacks At Jews

A Texas program offering in-state tuition to illegal immigrants ended Wednesday after the Trump administration sued the state saying that the initiative violated federal law. 
The suit from the Justice Department challenged Texas law that allowed illegal immigrants to be eligible for in-state tuition while denying the same opportunities for American citizens. The challenge was resolved the same day after a federal judge approved a joint motion from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and the Justice Department to rule the law unconstitutional.
“Today, I entered a joint motion along with the Trump Administration opposing a law that unconstitutionally and unlawfully gave benefits to illegal aliens that were not available to American citizens,” said Attorney General Paxton. “Ending this discriminatory and un-American provision is a major victory for Texas.”
The <a href="https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/sites/default/files/images/press/Joint%20Motion%20for%20Entry%20of%20Consent%20Judgment.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joint motion</a> asked the judge to rule that the tuition provision of Texas law applying to illegal immigrants violated the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause and issue a permanent injunction blocking application of the law.
“In direct and express conflict with federal law, Texas education law specifically allows an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States to qualify for in-state tuition based on residence within the state, while explicitly denying resident-based tuition rates to U.S. citizens that do not qualify as Texas residents,” Paxton and the DOJ wrote in their motion.

Judge Reed O’Connor of the Northern District of Texas <a href="https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/sites/default/files/images/press/In%20State%20Tuition%20Final%20Judgment.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed off</a> on the motion just hours after it was filed, granting a permanent injunction against the provision.
“In-state tuition for illegal immigrants in Texas has ended,” Governor Greg Abbott said. “Texas is permanently enjoined from providing in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.”
The provision giving illegal immigrants access to in-state tuition was <a href="https://lrl.texas.gov/legis/billsearch/actions.cfm?legSession=77-0&amp;billtypeDetail=HB&amp;billNumberDetail=1403&amp;billSuffixDetail=">first passed</a> back in 2001 and signed by then-Governor Rick Perry.
In an <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/04/protecting-american-communities-from-criminal-aliens/?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">executive order</a> signed in March, President Donald Trump instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to “identify and take appropriate action to stop the enforcement of State and local laws, regulations, policies, and practices favoring aliens over any groups of American citizens that are unlawful, preempted by Federal law, or otherwise unenforceable, including State laws that provide in-State higher education tuition to aliens but not to out-of-State American citizens.”

President Donald Trump took official action on Wednesday to halt the enrollment of foreign students at Harvard University for at least six months as the ongoing battle between the Trump administration and the Ivy League school intensifies.
A <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/06/enhancing-national-security-by-addressing-risks-at-harvard-university/">proclamation</a> signed by the president states that &#8220;it is necessary to restrict the entry of foreign nationals who seek to enter the United States solely or principally to participate in a course of study at Harvard University or in an exchange visitor program hosted by Harvard University.&#8221; Trump accuses Harvard of refusing to comply with the federal government and hand over data on &#8220;instances of misconduct and criminality committed by its foreign students,&#8221; calling Harvard&#8217;s refusal &#8220;an unacceptable risk.&#8221;
&#8220;Harvard provided data on misconduct by only three students, and the data it provided was so deficient that the DHS could not evaluate whether it should take further actions,&#8221; Trump&#8217;s proclamation states. &#8220;Harvard’s actions show that it either is not fully reporting its disciplinary records for foreign students or is not seriously policing its foreign students. In my judgment, these actions and failures directly undermine the Federal Government’s ability to ensure that foreign nationals admitted on student or exchange visitor visas remain in compliance with Federal law.&#8221;
&#8220;These concerns have compelled the Federal Government to conclude that Harvard University is no longer a trustworthy steward of international student and exchange visitor programs,&#8221; the proclamation continues.
Trump&#8217;s proclamation comes two weeks after the Department of Homeland Security <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-latest-barb-in-war-with-harvard-no-more-foreign-students">notified</a> Harvard that its participation in the Student and Exchange Visitor Program had been revoked. Days later, Secretary of State Marco Rubio <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-freezes-all-new-student-visa-interviews-in-major-blow-to-elite-universities?author=Nathan+Gay&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Admin+Freezes+All+New+Student+Visa+Interviews+In+Major+Blow+To+Elite+Universities">directed</a> U.S. embassies to freeze exchange student visa appointments for all applicants. Last week, however, Harvard won its initial court fight against the Trump administration over the issue when a district court judge blocked Trump from stopping the enrollment of foreign students at Harvard. Foreign students account for around 25% of those enrolled at the Ivy League school, according to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/29/us/harvard-international-students-trumps.html">The New York Times</a>.
The president&#8217;s latest action <a href="https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/LSB10458#:~:text=%2D%20Version:%201)-,Presidential%20Authority%20to%20Suspend%20Entry%20of%20Aliens%20Under%208%20U.S.C.,garnered%20recent%20attention%20by%20lawmakers.">cites</a> presidential authority &#8220;to suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens&#8221; if he &#8220;finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.&#8221; Trump&#8217;s proclamation suspends Harvard&#8217;s Student Exchange Visa Program and directs the Secretary of State to look into whether foreign nationals currently enrolled at Harvard &#8220;should have their visas revoked.&#8221; The suspension of foreign student enrollment will expire after six months, but it could be extended longer, according to Trump&#8217;s proclamation.

“Harvard will continue to protect its international students,” the spokesman added.
In his proclamation, Trump specifically calls out China for attempting &#8220;to take advantage of American higher education by exploiting the student visa program for improper purposes and by using visiting students to collect information at elite universities in the United States.&#8221; In the past five years, Harvard has received more than $150 million from foreign governments, with most of that funding coming from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, according to <a href="https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2025/2/28/foreign-funding-donations/">The Harvard Crimson</a>. &#8220;Sources from China&#8221; have also <a href="https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2022/4/6/foreign-donations-2022/">contributed</a> tens of millions of dollars to Harvard in recent years.

Florida high school students were drilled for being straight, asked to consider being gay, and told that straight people are to blame for overpopulation, according to course materials obtained by The Daily Wire.
During a course for high school children in Miami-Dade County, students were assigned to complete a sexuality-focused questionnaire that asked a series of bizarre questions such as: &#8220;What do you think caused your heterosexuality?&#8221;; &#8220;Is it possible that being straight is just a phase you may grow out of?”; and, “Considering the menace of hunger and overpopulation, could the human race survive if everyone were straight like yourself?”
Parents were shocked to learn that a professor made their children answer questions like this as part of a Miami-Dade College course being offered to high schoolers. The<a href="https://www.mdc.edu/asa/documents/competencies/pdf/SLS1510%20Preparing%20for%20Student%20Success.pdf"> course</a>, called &#8220;Preparing for Student Success,&#8221; was designed for students to develop academic goals and come up with strategies to succeed in college and offered in Miami-Dade County, an area that has<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/floridas-miami-dade-county-flips-red-in-voter-registration-for-first-time-in-history"> turned red</a> in recent years. 
“It&#8217;s not normal. I mean imagine if a person, anyone, goes close to your son and asks him these questions, I’d call the police,” a concerned mother whose son was enrolled in the class told The Daily Wire. “It&#8217;s perversion. Why are you talking about their sexuality to 15-year-old boys or girls? It&#8217;s absolutely sick. It’s sick.”
Other questions posed to the children included, &#8220;To whom have you disclosed your straight tendencies?&#8221; and &#8220;Why do you insist on showing off your heterosexuality?&#8221; The questionnaire ended by asking students what their reaction to it was and &#8220;about the assumptions you hold about what others are like.&#8221;
The questions come from the textbook &#8220;POWER: Strategies for Success in College and Life&#8221; by Robert Feldman, a senior research associate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The textbook was printed by McGraw Hill, one of the largest academic publishers in the United States whose products are used in 13,000 K-12 school districts across the country.
After being contacted by The Daily Wire, Miami-Dade College said that it had reviewed the assignment and determined that it would no longer be used.
&#8220;Miami-Dade College is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and academically sound learning environment for all students,&#8221; the college told The Daily Wire. &#8220;In response to concerns raised about a classroom assignment, we have conducted a thorough review of the assignment, and it will no longer be used. We expect all those who teach to uphold these standards and will ensure any necessary adjustments are made.&#8221;
The other questions on the assignment were as follows: &#8220;when and how did you decide you were straight?&#8221;; &#8220;is it possible that your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex?&#8221;; &#8220;There seem to be many unhappy heterosexuals. Techniques have been developed that might enable you to change your sexual orientation. Have you considered changing?&#8221; and, &#8220;why do straights place so much emphasis on sex?&#8221;
According to the textbook, the questionnaire was adopted from the work of Martin Rochlin, a gay rights activist and founding member of the Gay and Lesbian Center of Los Angeles who developed the &#8220;Heterosexual Questionnaire&#8221; in 1972.

The concerned mother whose son was forced to take the quiz told The Daily Wire that the questionnaire was included in the textbook as means of indoctrination.
She noted that dual enrollment classes are typically recommended for students looking to receive Florida&#8217;s Bright Futures Scholarship, a lottery funded-scholarship for top performing high school academic achievers. She said that teachers should avoid discussing issues of sexuality altogether.
&#8220;You don&#8217;t talk about these things, especially with kids. If you are a math teacher, you teach math,” she said. “These types of courses shouldn&#8217;t exist.”
She also voiced concerns about another questionnaire featured in the textbook on its chapter on diversity. One activity encourages students to determine the diversity of their campus by getting statistics of how many racial minorities attend their school, while another encourages them to &#8220;check your stereotype quotient.&#8221; That includes questions like, &#8220;If you found out that a star professional football player is gay, would you be surprised?&#8221;
The mother told The Daily Wire that she was contacted by the office of the president of Miami-Dade College and assured her that concerns would be addressed. They said the school told them that the quiz would no longer be administered and indicated that they would focus their teaching on what was academically appropriate.
Some parents believe that the content in the quiz may violate<a href="http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&amp;URL=1000-1099/1006/Sections/1006.31.html"> Florida law</a> requiring content to be &#8220;accurate, objective, balanced&#8221; and &#8220;noninflammatory.&#8221;
In its statement to The Daily Wire, Miami-Dade College said that it would continue to provide education that follows state requirements.

The controversy over the curriculum comes as Miami-Dade County has shifted significantly to the right electorally in recent years. President Donald Trump won the county by over 10 points in 2024. Evidence has been presented that an antisemitic activist who protested against Israel on Columbia University’s campus had a direct link to Hamas.

“As alleged, on three separate occasions, Tarek Bazrouk deliberately targeted and assaulted Jewish victims at protests relating to the Israel/Gaza war,” U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton for the Southern District of New York <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/new-york-man-charged-federal-hate-crimes-after-repeatedly-assaulting-jewish-victims">stated</a>. “Despite being arrested after each incident, Bazrouk allegedly remained undeterred and quickly returned to using violence to target Jews in New York City.”
The Department of Justice stated:

Evidence from that device revealed Bazrouk’s anti-Semitic bias and his support for anti-Jewish terrorist groups including Hamas, demonstrating his motivation for repeatedly assaulting Jewish victims. In text messages, for example, Bazrouk identified himself as a “Jew hater,” labeled Jews as “worthless,” extorted “Allah” to “get us rid of [Jews],” called an acquittance [sic] a “F***ing Jew,” and told a friend to “slap that b***h” in reference to a woman with an Israeli sticker on her laptop. Bazrouk also told a friend that he was “mad happy” to have learned that certain of his family members overseas are part of Hamas.

“He also had a picture of Obeida and one of an individual waving a Hamas flag, and an al-Qassam Brigades meme, which reads: ‘By God I would not trade the Al Qassam Brigades for the world and everything in it. May God be pleased with them and allow them to break the wicked enemy through him,&#8217;” the Post noted, adding, “Prosecutors also claimed that Bazrouk had traveled to the West Bank and Jordan for approximately three weeks in September and October 2024, which also poses questions regarding what he was doing there.”
When Barzouk was arrested, federal agents discovered $750,000 in cash in a safe at his home. His attorney insisted the money was likely profit from his job at a smoke shop.

University of North Carolina Asheville parted ways with administrator Megan Pugh after video surfaced of the now-former Dean of Students bragging about her plans to use her position to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) despite it being banned.
Corey DeAngelis shared the story in a thread posted to X on Tuesday, beginning with video obtained by an undercover journalist – working with Accuracy In Media —who spoke with Pugh and recorded her in her office.

A university known for training American diplomats let an anti-Israel activist group operate out of its international affairs school, leading to rampant antisemitism on a campus where more than one in four students is Jewish, a lawsuit said.
Jewish students in May sued George Washington University in federal court for violating the Civil Rights Act and breach of contract, giving 180 pages of examples of shocking antisemitism on campus. The school allegedly refused to hold perpetrators accountable, misled Congress about it, and treated Jews differently from other minorities.
George Washington traded academic inquiry for activism when, in 2019, its Elliot School of International Affairs agreed to <a href="https://gwtoday.gwu.edu/middle-east-studies-association-moves-gw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">house</a> the Middle East Studies Association (MESA), an activist group dedicated to boycotting Israel, the lawsuit said. That led to an explosion of activist professors and one-sided events at the school’s Washington, D.C., campus near the State Department, it said.
The suit comes amid efforts by the federal government designed to crack down on antisemitism and conduct detrimental to national security at American universities. “Because GWU accepts taxpayer money, it has a legal obligation under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to ensure that students of every race, color, and national origin enjoy their academic studies free from a hostile environment,” the suit <a href="https://www.holtzmanvogel.com/uploads/ECF-001-52225-Soffer-v-GWU-Complaint.pdf">said</a>.
MESA “developed and disseminated programming deliberately designed to incite anti-Zionist hostility within the GWU community,&#8221; the lawsuit reads. &#8220;These activities were billed as legitimate academic inquiry, but they systematically suppressed intellectual diversity and ensured that students were not exposed to any pro-Israel perspectives or a full, accurate account of Jewish history,&#8221; it added.
George Washington purportedly <a href="https://www.meforum.org/middle-east-studies-association-expelled-from-64631" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cut ties</a> with MESA in late 2023. But by then, its staff had blended with the Elliot School of International Affairs’ Institute for Middle East Studies (IMES), which hosted “unrelenting anti-Zionist and antisemitic events in the wake of the October 7th terror attacks.”
IMES faculty included William Youmans, associate professor of Media and Public Affairs and the Director of the Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication, who was a founding leader of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and publicly defended Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind behind the October 7 terror attack, the suit said.
It also included Ilana Feldman, a professor of Anthropology, History, and International Affairs, who was on MESA’s board and who tried to get an anthropology group to boycott Israel. Feldman “negotiated with the GWU Administration on behalf of” anti-Israel protesters who took over campus. She also led a panel where a MESA member said that recognizing that Israel is genocidal is a “litmus test to even be affiliated with Palestine study.”
Youmans and Feldman did not reply to requests for comment.
IMES partnered with the Middle East Research &amp; Information Project, a group that described “the U.S. and Israel’s war machine on one side and the ‘Resistance Axis’ and popular anti-normalization movements on the other,” referring to Iran and U.S.-designated terror groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, the suit said.
After Hamas&#8217; October 7, 2023, terror attack, IMES hosted a series of talks and refused proposals for pro-Israel academics to take part, betraying the idea that it is an academic group founded on open inquiry, the suit said.
“Every IMES event surrounding Israel has been, and remains, explicitly hostile toward Israel,” the suit said.
A week after the terror attacks, it hosted a panel about “Palestinian resistance groups,” using euphemism for Hamas despite it being designated a terrorist organization by the same State Department for which many George Washington grads will go on to work.
“During the panel discussion, IMES faculty members Ilana Feldman, Michael Barnett, and Arie Dubnov; MESA members Shay Hazkani and Laila El-Haddad; and IMES invitee Yousef Munayyer, all justified the October 7th attacks by Hamas, which included murders, rapes, and abductions, as legitimate acts of resistance in response to a foreign colonial regime,” the suit said.
The school began using students’ tuition to pay academics to try to convince Jews to betray their own religion, with IMES organizing events such as “The Colonizing Self” and screening the film “Israelism,” about two young Jews who discover that “the Jewish institutions that raised them not only lied, but built their Jewish identity around that lie.” Students were given extra credit to attend a screening of the film.
At an IMES event, MESA president Asli Bali claimed Jews had “ultra loyalty to a national imagined identity and participation in an imagined community.”
<h2>Campus-wide.</h2>
Antisemitism among George Washington faculty soon spread beyond IMES, the suit said.
“For instance, the GWU American Studies department sent a department-wide email to its students mobilizing them toward an anti-Israel ‘Freedom Seder’ that likened the Warsaw Ghetto uprising to Palestine Liberation efforts, specifically the release of Palestinian terrorists from Israeli prisons.”
George Washington&#8217;s Political Science Department gave an award to student Vidya Muthupillai, who “was featured on the website wearing a Keffiyeh, and whose bio publicly stated her intent to pursue a legal career as a ‘movement lawyer to protect and defend anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, decarceral, and all communities fighting for liberation.’”
Its History Department’s social media account said of anti-Israel protesters, “History will absolve this movement and justice will prevail!” More than 100 George Washington faculty members signed a letter supporting anti-Israel students who unlawfully created an encampment in the campus square.
Psychology professor Lara Sheehi taught a mandatory diversity class where she assigned reading that referred to Jews as white supremacists, the suit said. She said it was not possible to be a good psychologist and a Zionist, called Israelis “genocidal f—ks,” and told a student, “It’s not your fault you were born in Israel,” <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.280890/gov.uscourts.dcd.280890.1.0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the suit</a> said.
Jewish students complained, but MESA defended Sheehi and faulted the students who complained, it said. An investigation commissioned by the school cleared Sheehi and instead resulted in discipline against the complainants, it said, until the Department of Education ordered it to undo that discipline.
Sheehi has since left George Washington to teach in Qatar, the nation that harbors the leadership of Hamas, the lawsuit indicated.
“Through the present day, entire GWU academic departments continue to sponsor and invite their students to anti-Israel events that distort Jewish history,” it said.
As recently as last month, a professor brought in a lesbian feminist guest lecturer who was Jewish to lecture on an unrelated topic, and a student took over the class and demanded that the lecturer denounce Zionism — with the professor siding with the student and apologizing for inviting a Jewish academic, the suit said.

<h2>&#8220;Hamas is me. Hamas is you.&#8221;</h2>
The suit also seeks accountability for George Washington administrators’ timidity in enforcing laws and rules after anti-Israel protesters took over central areas of campus for weeks.
On October 24, 2023, the school’s Students for Justice in Palestine chapter projected “glory to our martyrs” on a library named after a Jew. The school suspended the SJP chapter, over the objections of MESA’s president, but it didn’t suspend its leaders, and they immediately began operating a different group with the same name.
Hundreds took over the central quad of campus for two weeks in April 2024, drawing borders that said “No Zionists” and “Settlers go back home, Palestine is ours alone.” So-called marshals identified Jewish students and forced them to leave, the suit said. The protesters did not seek to ascertain the political beliefs of these Jews, targeting them based solely on their religion, it said.
One of the first speakers was Osama Abuirshaid, the head of American Muslims for Palestine, who “has written articles for the website of Hamas’ military wing,” the suit said.
Protesters defaced the university’s statue of George Washington, and as Dean of Students Colette Coleman watched passively, one described that their goal was to weaken America, saying “when you destroy Zionism you really weaken the White House…Hamas is me. Hamas is you,” the suit said.
When a Jewish mother and father were visiting their child on campus, 40 protesters surrounded them and chanted “Zionists get out,” with one protester attempting to strike the mother, the suit said.
The group held noisy protests during finals week in violation of campus rules, but university administrators “capitulated” to protesters.
“A protest leader called out over a microphone: ‘Unless Dean Colette Coleman is here to meet our demands, get the f&#8211;k out of our liberation zone.’ She acquiesced and left,” the suit said.
At one point, students unfurled a seven-story-high Palestinian flag on a campus building. George Washington did not suspend the students responsible, but only put two on probation.
The protest later moved to outside of a residence hall, and Jewish students who had just finished taking exams were unable to return home “with nowhere to go and no one to protect them,” the lawsuit said.
The lawsuit said professors “openly encouraged these perpetrators by forgoing important class time to laud or even attend the protests,” with onetime IMES director Youmans saying “students enact what we teach” and professor Imani Cheers saying “liberation movements start with the young.”
“The faculty’s encouragement and indoctrination of students fueled the animus that led to the encampment on GWU’s campus,” with twenty to thirty faculty and staff linking arms to protect the protesters, the suit said.

<h2>Double standards.</h2>
Students ruthlessly targeted incoming university President Ellen Granberg, leading the school to cancel her July 2023 inauguration ceremony due to “safety risk,” and holding it virtually instead.
Granberg directed Jews to avoid the main campus square instead of ensuring their safe passage, the lawsuit said, despite laws requiring federally-funded schools to take steps to end harassment and hostile environments.
“The irony here, of course, is that when students begged President Granberg to ensure their safety while on campus, she declined and instead instructed the students themselves to stay away from the threats permeating the University. When President Granberg herself became the subject of potential criticism or harassment, she capitulated to the very students promoting hostility—rather than holding them accountable for their threats and disruptive conduct,” the suit said.
When Granberg and other administrators ventured near the encampment, they were protected by a squad of police officers. Still, Granberg said the university didn’t have the resources to bring the protesters to heel, the lawsuit said. If it “lacked the resources to maintain order, GWU should have tapped a tiny fraction of its $2.5 billion endowment and hired officers and security,” it said.
Granberg claimed that George Washington could take no action against anti-Jewish protesters unless it was something that “the FBI would arrest someone for,” despite protests routinely violating D.C. law and university rules.
But George Washington took swift action in 2019 against microaggressions deemed insensitive to black students, including suspending all sorority activities after one sorority member made an off-color joke about a plantation. One professor was driven off campus after he requested permission from students to read a historic text with the n-word, even though he did not say the word.
The university suspended only a single student despite months of antisemitic unrest, according to the lawsuit.
“GWU’s double standard (punishing hate directed toward all groups except Jewish and Israeli students) underscores the legal and moral violation,” the suit said. “It promptly investigates discrimination against minorities other than Jews and Israelis, and then metes out serious discipline to offenders.”
The only advocates for Jews at George Washington have been congressional Republicans. The suit said the university gave Congress false information about its response to antisemitism.
For example, on November 15, 2023, shortly after Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack, a student threw a rock at a truck that said “JewBelong,” shattering its glass. George Washington found the student responsible, but did not suspend or expel him. It falsely told Congress the truck was a “doxing truck,” the suit said.
A Jewish student studying Arabic and Hebrew Language and Culture said on October 7, other students, including SJP President Lance Lokas, “stared, laughed, and pointed at her in a taunting fashion in front of the professor, who said and did nothing.” Lokas later allegedly spat at the student, who filed a report against him but was told by GW administrators that they would not pursue discipline, the suit said. GW falsely told Congress the case was closed because it was a case of mistaken identity, the suit said.
A George Washington spokesman said in a statement that “We take the concerns of the students who filed the lawsuit extremely seriously. We condemn antisemitism in the strongest terms and have taken, and continue to take, robust action to support our Jewish and Israeli students and community.”

CNN&#8217;s chief data analyst Harry Enten revealed on Monday that most Americans agree with the Trump administration’s assessment that higher education needs &#8220;a kick in the rear end,&#8221; with confidence in colleges plummeting to just 36%.
The decline in Americans&#8217; confidence in higher education has been dramatic over the past decade, Enten explained, citing a recent Gallup poll.
&#8220;You go back a decade ago, 57% of Americans had high confidence in higher education. &#8230; That number has plummeted &#8230; down to 36%,&#8221; Enten explained, speaking with Kate Balduan, adding that 68% of Americans believe higher education is &#8220;on the wrong track.&#8221;
The perception of ideological bias on college campuses is widespread, with Enten revealing that a plurality of Americans agree colleges have a liberal bias, while only a small minority disagree.
“So, do colleges have a liberal bias? I think that&#8217;s really the question here. What we see in polling after polling after polling is that the plurality say yes. Overall, look at that. 45% of Americans overall agree with the idea that colleges have a liberal bias. Just 24% disagree with that idea.”
Among Republicans, the sentiment is even stronger, with “67% of Republicans&#8221; agreeing that &#8220;colleges have a liberal bias,” reflecting why many conservatives have long criticized academia.

According to Enten, it&#8217;s no longer much of a question of if there is bias, but rather, “it’s a question of whether or not people agree with Trump’s tactics,” although they “definitely agree with him on the idea that there is a problem with higher ed overall.”

Trump&#8217;s tough stance on higher education may already be having an impact internationally. Webpage views for U.S. university courses from potential students abroad have plummeted by 50% between January and April, according to Enten, suggesting foreign students are looking elsewhere for their education.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Wednesday that the State Department would start to “aggressively” revoke the visas of Chinese students. 
Rubio said that the revocations would focus on those with close ties to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in “critical fields.” Rubio’s actions come after he froze all new student visa interviews pending the development of new admittance guidelines. 
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. State Department will work with the Department of Homeland Security to aggressively revoke visas for Chinese students, including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields,” Rubio announced in a statement. “We will also revise visa criteria to enhance scrutiny of all future visa applications from the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong.”
There are roughly 275,000 Chinese students studying in the United States. 
Chinese theft of American intellectual property has been a problem for years, and several Chinese students have been charged and convicted of espionage. 
In 2020, a Chinese woman studying at Boston University named Yanqing Ye <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/fbi-wanted-yanqing-ye-china/">fled</a> the country after being accused of working for China while studying chemistry, physics, and biomedical engineering. According to the FBI, Ye was a lieutenant in the Chinese military but did not disclose that when she applied for a student visa. She reportedly gathered intelligence on two American scientists. 
In another <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/post/convicted-ex-chicago-illinois-institute-technology-college-student-chaoqun-ji-part-us-china-spy-swap/15596442/">incident</a>, a Chinese student named Chaoqun Ji, who was attending the Illinois Institute of Technology, was convicted in 2023 of acting as an unregistered agent for China after gathering information on defense contractors.

The targeting of Chinese student visas comes as the Trump administration <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-freezes-all-new-student-visa-interviews-in-major-blow-to-elite-universities?author=Nathan+Gay&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Admin+Freezes+All+New+Student+Visa+Interviews+In+Major+Blow+To+Elite+Universities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has increased vetting</a> for what foreign students are allowed into the country. On Tuesday, Rubio signed a cable directing U.S. embassies to “not add any additional student or exchange visitor (F, M, and J) visa appointment capacity until further guidance is issued … which we anticipate in the coming days.”
The pause affects all applicants for student visas while the administration reportedly prepares guidance for expanded social media vetting requirements.
Rubio also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rubio-announces-new-visa-restrictions-for-foreigners-who-censor-americans?author=Hank+Berrien&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Rubio+Announces+New+Visa+Restrictions+For+Foreigners+Who+Censor+Americans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">took steps</a> on Wednesday to implement new visa restrictions targeting foreigners “complicit” in censoring Americans.
“Today, I am announcing a new visa restriction policy that will apply to foreign nationals who are responsible for censorship of protected expression in the United States,” Rubio said. “It is unacceptable for foreign officials to issue or threaten arrest warrants on U.S. citizens or U.S. residents for social media posts on American platforms while physically present on U.S. soil.”
