Former President Barack Obama triggered a virtual wave of backlash on Monday when a video clip went viral showing him calling for a Justice Department, FBI, and court system free from the &#8220;meddling&#8221; of politicians.
Obama joined comedian and podcast host Marc Maron for his final episode — and in an obvious attempt to attack Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations under President Donald Trump, he accidentally delivered a knockout punch to his own administration.

He pivoted to the court system then, adding, &#8220;We don’t want kangaroo courts and trumped up charges. That’s what happens in other places that we used to scold for doing that. We want our court system and our Justice Department and our prosecutors and our FBI to be, just playing things straight and looking at the facts and not meddling in politics the way we’ve seen lately. And I think if enough people start not to being in a fetal position, but also not being &#8212; just not worrying about it and and detached from it, but being vigilant, but also saying, you know what – yeah, we can stand up to this. We can call it like we see it. We need people who have whatever platforms they have to be able to say, no, that’s not who we are, and to be willing to get attacked on X by whoever for doing that. And it’s not easy.&#8221;

But critics were quick to point out that the federal government under Obama had been highly politicized, from lawsuits targeting the Little Sisters of the Poor and an Internal Revenue Service weaponized against conservatives to the Justice Department&#8217;s politically-driven investigation into President Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON — Kash Patel&#8217;s announcement that the FBI was cutting all ties to the Southern Poverty Law Center followed a letter from top conservative leaders urging the White House to distance itself from the group, The Daily Wire has learned.
&#8220;Enough is enough,&#8221; the leaders wrote to White House Domestic Policy Council Director Vince Haley in a previously unreported letter. &#8220;The SPLC&#8217;s defamatory Hate Map should no longer be used by federal agencies as a fig leaf to mask discrimination against conservatives.&#8221;
The letter specifically called for President Donald Trump to issue an executive order removing any SPLC data from all federal agency websites and work, to block future use of the SPLC data on federal agency websites and work, and to block federal funds from going to government contractors who use the SPLC&#8217;s work to determine what organizations they will work with.
Moms for Liberty CEO Tina Descovich led the effort, joined by Turning Point Action&#8217;s Tyler Bower, Dr. Ben Carson, Alliance Defending Freedom President Kristen Waggoner, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, WallBuilders founder David Barton, Liberty Counsel&#8217;s founder Matthew Staver, Gays Against Groomers&#8217;s Jaimee Michell, and New Discourses founder James Lindsay.

The signatories argued that the SPLC has become so &#8220;biased, politicized, and unmoored from its original mission that it has begun placing traditional value and faith-based organizations like Alliance Defending Freedom, Moms for Liberty, Liberty Counsel and the Family Research Council on its Hate Map&#8221; — a map that tracks over 1400 individuals and groups that it deems hateful and extremist and classes with the Ku Klux Klan.
That list included Charlie Kirk and the organization he founded, Turning Point USA.
&#8220;Just a few months ago, the SPLC ran a feature article viciously attacking Turning Point USA and Charlie Kirk for advocating for President Trump’s agenda on such issues as faith and the reality of biological sex,&#8221; the leaders wrote in their letter. &#8220;This would be laughable if the consequences of this reckless and dishonest behavior were not so deadly serious.&#8221;
Months later, Kirk was killed by a radical assassin who targeted the TPUSA founder for his political beliefs.
The SPLC once did &#8220;good work&#8221; fighting segregation in the South, the leaders noted. But less than a decade after its founding, &#8220;it egregiously strayed from its mission, declining today into what Politico has described as &#8216;more of a partisan progressive hit operation than a civil rights watchdog.'&#8221; In recent years, a number of radical left-wing terrorists have specifically cited the organization as their motivation to commit violence against Christians and conservatives.
In 2012, an attempted mass murderer made a plan to &#8220;stride into&#8221; the Family Research Council&#8217;s headquarters in Washington, D.C., to &#8220;open fire on the people inside in an effort to kill as many people as possible,&#8221; the letter argued. That gunman specifically said he was motivated by the SPLC, which had listed the Family Research Council as a hate group.
The SPLC hate designation was also cited as the reason for the riot and assault of a female professor at Middlebury College in 2017, the leaders argued.
&#8220;More recently, an SPLC staff attorney was arrested and charged in 2023 with domestic terrorism for his involvement in a violent riot against Atlanta police officers. The SPLC responded by condemning the arrests as &#8216;heavy-handed law enforcement intervention against protestors.'&#8221;
But the most &#8220;stunning&#8221; fact about the SPLC&#8217;s &#8220;Hate Map,&#8221; they argued, is &#8220;neither its rank dishonesty nor its transparent bias against SPLC’s conservative political enemies, but the fact that anyone would ever rely upon it to make significant policy decisions.&#8221;
&#8220;And yet, federal government agencies have utilized SPLC data and analysis in their work product, resulting in the stigmatization of lawful organizations advocating for views well within the American tradition.&#8221;
&#8220;For example,&#8221; they said, &#8220;the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has utilized SPLC materials to label traditional Catholics, among others, as radical extremists. The most recent known report, created by the FBI’s Richmond Field Office, used the SPLC as a source to label traditional Catholic groups as hate groups, and was sent to over 1,000 FBI employees nationally.&#8221;
Their efforts appear to have been successful.
On Friday, as The Daily Signal&#8217;s Tyler O&#8217;Neill first reported, the FBI severed all ties to the SPLC.
&#8220;The Southern Poverty Law Center long ago abandoned civil rights work and turned into a partisan smear machine,&#8221; FBI Director Kash Patel said in a Friday statement. &#8220;Their so-called &#8216;hate map&#8217; has been used to defame mainstream Americans and even inspired violence. That disgraceful record makes them unfit for any FBI partnership.&#8221;
&#8220;In April, during our Anti-Christian Bias Panel, I made it clear that the FBI will never rely on politicized or agenda-driven intelligence from outside groups — and certainly not from the SPLC,&#8221; Patel added. &#8220;Under this FBI, all ties with the SPLC have officially been terminated.&#8221;
The FBI confirmed to The Daily Signal that it has no intelligence products from the SPLC and that it no longer engages with the far-Left group. The news comes just days after Patel shared that the FBI had also severed ties with the Anti-Defamation League, a nonprofit that purports to oppose antisemitism but also has condemned critics of transgender ideology, including The Daily Wire&#8217;s Matt Walsh.

It was a long time coming.
On Thursday, it was announced that a grand jury had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/morning-brief-comey-charged-ice-shooter-investigated-californias-crime-wave-intensifies?author=Morning+Wire&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=12&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=Morning+Brief%3A+Comey+Charged%2C+ICE+Shooter+Investigated+%26+California%E2%80%99s+Crime+Wave+Intensifies">indicted</a> a longtime target of President Trump&#8217;s, former FBI director James Comey.
James Comey has been on President Trump&#8217;s so-called target list for a very long time, going all the way back to when President Trump fired him during his first term. He fired him because James Comey almost certainly bootstrapped into the press the so-called Steele dossier. He promoted the Trump/Russia collusion hoax. He was deeply involved in every aspect of that — up to and including the use of the Steele dossier — in documents that were presented directly to President Trump, which was then used as an excuse by the media to push the Steele dossier, a compendium of lies about President Trump, into public view.
There have been open questions about whether James Comey, over the intervening years in which he testified repeatedly in front of Congress, among others, had actually committed perjury.
It is a very, very, very short indictment, a page and a half maximum. It accuses Comey by stating he “did willfully and knowingly make a materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statement in a matter within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch of the Government of the United States, by falsely stating to a U.S. Senator during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that he, James B. Comey Jr., had not ‘authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports’ regarding an FBI investigation concerning” President Trump.
The indictment continues, “That statement was false, because, as James B. Comey Jr. then and there knew, he in fact had authorized PERSON 3 to serve as an anonymous source in news reports regarding an FBI investigation concerning” Trump.
The allegation is that there was a person lower down at the FBI who leaked to the press details involving the investigation into President Trump, and it is suggested that the person was authorized by Comey illegally to do that, and Comey subsequently lied about it. Or, if he had the authority to authorize the leak, he lied about it.
That lie is count one, which is the perjury charge. Count two is obstruction of a congressional proceeding, saying then on that same date, based on that same testimony, Comey did “corruptly endeavor to influence, obstruct, and impede the due and proper exercise of the power of inquiry under which an investigation was being had before the Senate Judiciary Committee by making false and misleading statements before that committee.”

That is the entirety of the indictment. It is very specific. It is presumably about one or two lines in his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The reason it&#8217;s being brought so quickly is because there&#8217;s a five-year statute of limitations on perjury charges. Comey’s testimony was September 30, 2020. It is now September 26, 2025, so we are about to expire on that statute of limitations.
It appears from much of the public information that this isn&#8217;t a particularly well-predicated indictment, and the indictment itself is quite weak and that it&#8217;s unlikely to survive in court.
Many of the things mentioned for the possibility of indictment of Comey are immoral and display ethics much worse than this.
But that&#8217;s not what he&#8217;s being indicted for.
At the end of the day, the indictment that&#8217;s left is pretty simple. Comey either lied about leaking to The New York Times in a tantrum because he was getting fired or he didn&#8217;t.
James Comey has decided to do what no one should ever do when hit with an indictment, which is to go directly on camera and talk. First rule of lawyering: Tell your client to shut the hell up.
But Comey <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/09/25/defiant-comey-video-defense-donald-trump-00581806">publicly stated</a>: 
<blockquote>My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump, but we couldn&#8217;t imagine ourselves living any other way. We will not live on our knees. And you shouldn&#8217;t either. Somebody that I love dearly, recently said that fear is the tool of a tyrant. And she&#8217;s right. But I&#8217;m not afraid. And I hope you&#8217;re not either. I hope instead you are engaged, you are paying attention, and you will vote like your beloved country depends upon it, which it does. My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I&#8217;m innocent. So let&#8217;s have a trial. And keep the faith.</blockquote>
He is simply the worst. Such a self-aggrandizing ridiculous figure.
This person had brought our country to the brink — in terms of the Justice Department, the FBI — for basically a decade, and it turns out he was one of the most ridiculous figures in the history of American public service. Truly a ridiculous figure, not only blowing the Hillary Clinton investigation, but blowing the Donald Trump investigation, manipulating the release, effectively, of the Steele dossier, and then using his perch as the guy who got fired by Donald Trump in order to launch salvos at Donald Trump over and over and over again, while walking through the forest and taking selfies of himself, or walking on the beach and taking pictures of shells on the beach, saying, “86 Donald Trump.”

So don&#8217;t mistake my questions about the indictment, that I somehow believe that James Comey is deserving of tremendous sympathy. I do not think that James Comey is worthy of tremendous sympathy. He was an awful director of the FBI, a joke of a public figure, and his “I&#8217;m standing up to authority. I am the hero standing in the breach” posturing is silly.
He&#8217;s just a silly, silly person. That doesn&#8217;t speak to whether the criminal indictment that is being brought here is weak or strong.
We&#8217;ll see what the underlying evidence looks like on the face of it.
But as far as personal sympathy for James Comey?
The guy is a schmuck.

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump predicted Friday that “there will be others” indicted following a federal grand jury’s indictment of former FBI Director James Comey.
The jury <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/comey-indicted-for-lying-to-congress-no-one-is-above-the-law">indicted Comey</a> on charges of giving false statements and obstruction of a congressional proceeding, prompting liberal media to accuse the president of retaliating against political opponents. On Friday morning, the president gaggled with reporters before boarding Marine One for a trip to the Ryder Cup in New York. He discussed the Comey news and stressed that President Joe Biden’s Justice Department had unfairly targeted him.
“I think there’ll be others,” Trump shared, pressed by a reporter to share who else could be next. “I mean, they’re corrupt. These were corrupt, radical Left Democrats, because Comey, essentially was, he was worse than a Democrat. I would say the Democrats are better than Comey. But no, there’ll be others … that’s my opinion.”
“They weaponized the Justice Department like nobody in history, what they’ve done is terrible,” the president added, saying, “I hope, frankly, there are others, because you can’t let this happen to a country.”
Comey lied, Trump said.
“He didn’t think he’d get caught.”

Asked whether he has concerns that Democrats will target his FBI Director, Kash Patel, after he leaves office, Trump responded: “They did it with me for four years. They went after me. They went after me for four years. And that doesn’t even [include] the four great years that we had in the White House.”
Trump noted that he first began hearing rumors of Russia when he was first elected president.
“I said, What the hell do I have to do with Russia?” he asked. “Nothing. And then it got worse, and worse than some of the fake news picked it up … and they loved it. And we went through a long time with that. And despite that, we had a great first term.”
Trump told Fox News’ Peter Doocy: “This is about justice. Really, it&#8217;s not revenge.”
“It’s also about the fact that you can’t let this go on. They are sick, radical Left people, and they can’t get away with it,” he said. “And Comey. Comey was one of the people. He wasn’t the biggest, but he’s a dirty cop. He’s always been a dirty cop.”
“The only problem is, for him, he didn’t think it’d be caught, and he got caught,” Trump added. “He lied. He lied a lot, but this was a very important thing. This was he could have said ‘maybe’ or ‘I don&#8217;t remember,’ he didn&#8217;t say that. He gave a very specific answer, and then he verified it numerous times, and he got caught. The problem that Comey has is he got caught lying, and he was very strong. It&#8217;s not like, well maybe, or I don&#8217;t remember, he gave a very specific answer, because it was a very powerful question, a very important question, and when he gave the answer.”
“The only problem,” the president said again, “Is he got caught.”
The Comey indictment stemmed from statements the former FBI director made to Congress in September 2020, when he testified on how he handled the federal investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election. The state of limitations would have expired on Comey’s claims made during that hearing on September 30. He is the first former senior administration official to be indicted in relation to the Russia collusion hoax.

Investigators found ammunition inside the .30 caliber bolt action rifle believed to have been used in the Charlie Kirk assassination, with government documents reported on by both <a href="https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/charlie-kirk-shot/card/ammunition-in-kirk-shooting-engraved-with-transgender-antifascist-ideology-sources-pdymd1sXXMSlVRhpvR4b">The Wall Street Journal</a> and conservative commentator <a href="https://x.com/scrowder/status/1966118431511433267">Steven Crowder</a> saying that unused ammunition was engraved with “transgender and anti-fascist ideology.&#8221;
The Department of Justice did not confirm the reports, telling The Daily Wire that the investigation is still ongoing, with investigators analyzing the suspected assassin&#8217;s rifle and the ammunition.
Crowder said that his team received an email from an Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms officer on Thursday morning with what appeared to be an internal law enforcement message. The Wall Street Journal also reported that it had reviewed an internal law enforcement bulletin that discussed transgender and antifascist ideology on ammunition.
&#8220;All cartridges have engraved wording on them expressing transgender and anti-fascist ideology,&#8221; according to the email that Crowder posted on X. &#8220;An emergency trace has been submitted, and ATF SLC is working leads generated by the trace. The firearm and ammunition have been taken by the FBI for DNA analysis and fingerprint impressions.&#8221;
Kirk was answering an audience question on transgender mass shooters seconds before he was assassinated. It was reported last week that the Department of Justice is considering moves to ban guns for individuals who believe they are transgender.
The reported law enforcement message also stated that the rifle that was recovered is &#8220;an older model imported Mauser .30-06 caliber bolt action rifle,&#8221; adding that it was &#8220;wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near the campus.&#8221; A <a href="https://x.com/nypost/status/1966160408718274982">photo</a> of what officials believe to be the assassin&#8217;s rifle was published by The New York Post.
Parts of the reported law enforcement email line up with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-charlie-kirk-shot-at-utah-campus-event?contentProgram=Charlie%20Kirk%20Assassinated%20At%20Utah%20College%20Event%2C%20Dead%20at%2031&amp;contentType=Post&amp;elementPosition=3&amp;location=Home%20Tab&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Home%20Featured%20Carousel">updates</a> provided by the Utah Department of Public Safety and FBI officials on Thursday morning.
Robert Bohls, the special agent in charge of the FBI&#8217;s Salt Lake City field office, said at a press conference that authorities believe they have recovered the suspected assassin&#8217;s &#8220;high-powered bolt-action rifle,&#8221; adding that the rifle was found &#8220;in a wooded area.&#8221;
Utah DPS Commissioner Beau Mason added that authorities have &#8220;good video footage&#8221; of the suspected assassin, but they are holding off on releasing the video footage as they &#8220;work through some technologies and ways to identify this individual.&#8221; The suspect is believed to have shot Kirk from a perch on the roof of an adjacent building to where the conservative commentator was speaking in a courtyard on campus. Authorities believe the suspect jumped off the roof and fled off campus and into a neighborhood after the assassination. Mason said the suspected assassin appeared to be &#8220;of college age.&#8221;
The FBI said on Wednesday night that two subjects who were detained and questioned in connection with the assassination were released after &#8220;law enforcement found no current ties to the shooting with either of these individuals.” FBI Director Kash Patel said earlier on Wednesday that the suspected assassin had been taken into custody. He later said, “The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement. Our investigation continues, and we will continue to release information in the interest of transparency.”

The Department of Justice said on Monday that it would probe &#8220;deeply concerning&#8221; videos of a Texas A&amp;M student being asked to leave class after pushing back on radical gender theory.
The videos, obtained and shared by Texas State Rep. Brian Harrison and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-texas-am-student-booted-from-lecture-after-objecting-to-professor-pushing-radical-gender-theory?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=6&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=WATCH%3A+Texas+A%26M+Student+Booted+From+Lecture+After+Objecting+To+Professor+Pushing+Radical+Gender+Theory">first reported</a> by The Daily Wire, show a student confronting Dr. Melissa McCoul during a children’s literature class after McCoul pushed leftist views on sex and gender. In one clip, the student told McCoul that the course material went against President Donald Trump’s orders on gender and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“This also goes against, not only myself, but a lot of people’s religious beliefs,” the student added. “And so I am not going to participate in this because it’s not legal.”
McCoul told the student that her teaching on transgenderism and other LGBT issues was &#8220;biologically true,&#8221; adding that she did not believe that the student would be able to stop her from teaching those ideas.
“Because I do have the legal and ethical authority [and] professional expertise in this classroom,” McCoul told the student. “It’s time for you to leave.”

The children&#8217;s literature class devoted considerable attention to sex, gender, and “queerness,” according to slides reviewed by The Daily Wire. One slide argued that it&#8217;s appropriate to teach LGBT issues to young children, stating, &#8220;Thinking that homosexuality or queer people are always ‘x-rated’ is an effect of heteronormativity, the idea that heterosexual or straight is normal as well as normative.&#8221; Another slide was titled “Let’s talk gender in children’s lit!” and argued that “Childhood is the time for figuring out how to be a boy, girl, man, woman, or another gender.”

Harrison told The Daily Wire that the professor&#8217;s teachings were &#8220;transgender indoctrination,&#8221; adding, “This is one of the clearest and most disgusting examples of taxpayer abuse and the weaponization of Texans’ tax money against them, against their values, against their children.”
The Texas Republican sent letters to Governor Greg Abbott, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Education Secretary Linda McMahon, asking for the state and federal government to take action against Texas A&amp;M.
A university official told The Daily Wire, “We are aware of an isolated incident in which a summer course’s content was misaligned with the course curriculum. The college took steps in collaboration with faculty to ensure all course content aligns with the course curriculum moving forward.”
In a recorded phone call between the student and Texas A&amp;M President Mark Welsh, the president stated that the university would review the children’s literature course and discuss providing more detailed descriptions of any classes that teach radical gender theory. Welsh told the student that “there’s not a problem” teaching LGBT literature as long as the university makes it clear it will be part of a class.

WASHINGTON — In the wake of the latest deadly attack on a school by a transgender-identifying individual, President Donald Trump&#8217;s Justice Department is considering blocking trans-identifying people from buying firearms, The Daily Wire has learned.
“Individuals within the DOJ are reviewing ways to ensure that mentally ill individuals suffering from gender dysphoria are unable to obtain firearms while they are unstable and unwell,&#8221; one source inside the Justice Department told The Daily Wire.
The DOJ&#8217;s discussions center on the fact that those who identify as transgender suffer from gender dysphoria, a mental disorder, the DOJ source familiar with the conversations shared with The Daily Wire. Gender dysphoria describes the sense of unease that a man or woman may feel if he or she thinks that their biological sex is mismatched with their so-called gender identity.
A DOJ spokesman would not comment on specific measures being considered, but said that a &#8220;range of options&#8221; is on the table.
&#8220;Under Attorney General Bondi’s leadership this Department of Justice is actively considering a range of options to prevent mentally unstable individuals from committing acts of violence, especially at schools,&#8221; the spokesman said.
Given the rise in transgender violence over the past decade, particularly aimed at school children, many on the right have argued that authorities should be taking a much closer look at the warning signs exhibited by transgender shooters.
Last week&#8217;s deadly shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, in which trans-identifying shooter Robin Westman killed two children and injured many more, has prompted calls from the right to investigate transgender domestic terrorism. The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/calls-to-investigate-trans-domestic-terrorism-escalate-after-devastating-school-shooting?author=Mary+Margaret+Olohan&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Calls+To+Investigate+Trans+Domestic+Terrorism+Escalate+After+Devastating+School+Shooting">reported this week</a> that the White House’s draft national security strategy on domestic terrorism will specifically address transgender violence.

Westman’s actions came only two years after another trans-identifying killer, this one a woman who identified as a man, targeted Christian school children in Nashville. One week later, leaders of Catholic and independent schools in Minnesota <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/minnesota-catholic-school-leader-warned-tim-walz-of-urgent-and-critical-need-to-secure-schools?author=Mary+Margaret+Olohan&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=4&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Minnesota+Catholic+School+Leader+Warned+Tim+Walz+Of+%E2%80%98Critical%E2%80%99+School+Safety+Threats.+He+Did+Nothing." target="_blank" rel="noopener">had called on Governor Tim Walz</a> to help prevent similar shootings, as The Daily Wire reported earlier this week.
They feared that the next shooter would target one of their schools, but the security funding was never authorized. That same year, Walz was working to protect trans-identifying people, signing legislation establishing Minnesota as a “trans refuge,” and promising to “protect those seeking gender-affirming care.&#8221;
On Tuesday, Walz shared that he is talking to legislators about calling a special session to address gun violence, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/tim-walz-considering-special-session-on-guns-after-annunciation-shooting/">telling CBS News</a>: &#8220;The things that make America unique in terms of shootings is we just have more guns and the wrong kinds of guns that are on the streets.&#8221;
The fact that the DOJ is considering blocking trans-identifying individuals from owning guns suggests that the Justice Department views the situation very differently. A review by The Daily Wire found that the Annunciation school shooting and the Covenant Christian school shooting are just two examples of a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/why-were-naming-the-minneapolis-shooter?author=Brent+Scher&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Why+We%E2%80%99re+Naming+The+Minneapolis+Shooter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">steady stream of transgender-related violence</a> over the past decade.
&#8220;Democrats have called for common sense gun laws for a long time,&#8221; the DOJ source shared on Thursday, adding, &#8220;This seems pretty common sense to me.”
The move would undoubtedly infuriate those on the left who believe that men can become women and women can become men — and that people who identify as transgender are not mentally ill but merely living in the wrong body. These critics argue that transgender identification is irrelevant when discussing school shootings and that even discussing the topic puts trans-identifying people in danger and should be off limits.
In recent years, doctors, therapists, activists, and even President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration have argued that people experiencing gender dysphoria will benefit from so-called &#8220;gender-affirming care&#8221; — transgender surgeries, hormones, and puberty blockers — claiming that these gender dysphoric people are more likely to kill themselves if they don&#8217;t receive such &#8220;care.&#8221; Opponents of these measures, including young people who underwent the procedures as teenagers like Chloe Cole, argue that &#8220;gender-affirming care&#8221; does not mitigate the distress that gender dysphoric people have, but actually often exacerbates mental health issues.
Democrats like Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have criticized &#8220;HATE being directed at our trans community&#8221; in the wake of last week&#8217;s shooting, claiming that “anybody who is using this as an opportunity to villainize our trans community or any other community out there, has lost their sense of common humanity.&#8221;
Sebastian Gorka, deputy assistant to President Donald Trump and senior director for counterterrorism, argued on CNN earlier this week that there was an ideological component to the Annunciation school shooting.
“What we should do is we should look at the early warning signals, the signs,” he told CNN’s Brianna Keilar. “We should be providing off-ramps, we should be providing mental health options for these individuals.”
“I find it hard to believe that an individual goes from getting his mother to sign a change of name certificate, age 17, and then just a handful of years later is mowing down innocent children in a church pew during a Catholic mass, and nobody realized there was a problem,” Gorka <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/1962154580117975087" target="_blank" rel="noopener">argued</a>. “That is what we have to address to save the next children from the next atrocity. It’s not about the sexual proclivities of the individual, it’s the fact that nobody seems to notice a very disturbing pattern towards violence.”

Trump DOJ Deliberates Over Gun Ban For Transgenders

Just days ago, Rudy Giuliani <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rudy-giuliani-hospitalized-after-vehicle-struck-from-behind-at-high-speed?author=Tim+Pearce&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Rudy+Giuliani+Hospitalized+After+Vehicle+%E2%80%98Struck+From+Behind+At+High+Speed%E2%80%99">made headlines</a> for surviving a car accident after stopping on the side of a highway to help a woman reporting domestic violence.
This recent act of public service from &#8220;America’s Mayor&#8221; reflects a lifetime of public service, from taking down the Mafia in the Southern District of New York’s famed 1980s &#8220;Commission Trial,&#8221; to prosecuting high-profile terrorism cases that were tied to the first World Trade Center bombing in the 1990s with Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew McCarthy.
Unfortunately, that history of fearless, nonpartisan justice stands in sharp contrast to the SDNY’s posture today, where partisan lawfare seems to dominate.
That’s why it’s so encouraging that a group of judges <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/08/18/us-news/judges-approve-trump-pick-jay-clayton-to-remain-interim-us-attorney-for-southern-district-of-new-york/">ruled</a> in late August that Trump appointee Jay Clayton can remain in place as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Clayton has the potential to restore the SDNY back to its former glory during the Giuliani years.
He is a longtime Republican who clerked for a Reagan-appointed judge and served as head of the Securities and Exchange Commission during the first Trump administration.
For far too long, the SDNY has seemed to specialize in partisan lawfare.
For example, SDNY Judge Lewis Kaplan presided over journalist E. Jean Carroll’s 2019 civil <a href="https://www.npr.org/2024/01/26/1226626397/trump-defamation-trial#:~:text=What%20this%20case%20is%20about,former%20president%20was%20also%20liable.">lawsuit</a> against Trump, which accused the sitting president of rape and defamation.
Carroll <a href="https://dailydodge.com/e-jean-carroll-testifying-in-civil-case-says-she-cant-recall-date-of-alleged-trump-attack/">couldn’t remember</a> what year the alleged assault took place, never mentioned it in her diary, and claimed that the numerous similarities between her account and a 2012 &#8220;Law and Order&#8221; episode were an “astonishing” coincidence.
But despite all these holes in Carroll’s story, the Left saw a chance to undermine Trump and leaped at it. Democrat billionaire megadonor Reid Hoffman <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/anafaguy/2023/05/10/what-was-reid-hoffmans-role-in-funding-e-jean-carrolls-case/">funded</a> the entire lawsuit through his nonprofit American Future Republic, and it was anti-Trump commentator George Conway who <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usxxlZosnNs">urged</a> Carroll to sue in the first place.
Kaplan not only oversaw this farce but also put his thumb on the scale for Carroll. He <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-rape-case-lawyers-banned-from-speaking-about-dna-judge-rules-2023-3">ruled</a> male DNA found on Carroll’s dress inadmissible, even after Trump offered to provide a sample. He <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/trump-fails-narrow-rape-accusers-case-trial-looms-2023-03-28/">admitted</a> additional defamation charges that punished Trump for defending himself on social media. He even <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23793781-tacopina-mistrial-filing/">interrupted</a> a line of questioning from Trump’s lawyer in a way that signaled clearly to the jury where his sympathies lay.

The SDNY also conveniently <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/new-york-city-mayor-eric-adams-charged-bribery-and-campaign-finance-offenses">charged</a> New York City Mayor Eric Adams with bribery shortly after he started <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/15/nyregion/eric-adams-mexico-border-migrants.html">speaking out</a> against the Biden administration’s open border policies.
When the Trump administration ordered the charges dropped, multiple prosecutors <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/02/13/nx-s1-5297120/eric-adams-federal-prosecutors-resignations">resigned</a> in outrage after failing to make a single peep about the lawfare campaign against Trump.
These partisan prosecutions even extend to the realm of antitrust enforcement. 
 
The SDNY is currently <a href="https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa/video/justice-department-sues-visa-monopolizing-debit-markets#:~:text=Description:%20Today%2C%20the%20Justice%20Department,developing%20new%20and%20innovative%20alternatives.&amp;text=Review%20the%20YouTube%20Terms%20of%20Service%20and%20the%20Google%20Privacy%20Policy%20.">playing host</a> to a Biden-era Justice Department lawsuit against Visa. Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland accused the company of driving up “the price of nearly everything” by monopolizing the debit transaction market.
In fact, it was Biden’s own inflationary policies that were driving up prices. Visa, which has a high market share because of its popularity but nothing close to a monopoly, just provided a handy scapegoat.
Meanwhile, the district always seems to drop the ball when it comes to getting actual justice for actual victims.
They <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/27/business/sam-bankman-fried-campaign-finance-charge.html#:~:text=Federal%20prosecutors%20pursuing%20the%20criminal,The%20authorities%20have%20said%20Mr.">failed</a> to charge crypto fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried until his whole fraudulent empire was collapsing around him, even though the writing was on the wall long before the crash.
By that point, it was already too late. Bankman-Fried was the <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ftx-sam-bankman-fried-political-donations-2022/">largest single donor</a> to Democrats in the 2022 midterms, ploughing <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/12/14/sbf-ftx-political-donations/">over $40 million</a> into PACs that helped Democrats keep the Senate and hold Republican gains in the House to historic lows.
Damian Williams, then the U.S. attorney for the SDNY, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/united-states-attorney-announces-charges-against-ftx-founder-samuel-bankman-fried#:~:text=BANKMAN%2DFRIED%20was%20arrested%20yesterday,fraud%2C%20plain%20and%20simple.%E2%80%9D">made it clear</a> that these donations from SBF and his cronies were funded with “stolen customer money.” The people SBF defrauded might get their money back, but voters have no such remedy. There’s no way to un-air the ads his ill-gotten gains bankrolled.
The sex trafficking case against rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs provides another example of the SDNY’s failure. Maurene Comey, the lead prosecutor on the case, botched it so badly that the Justice Department <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrxDE8izOUc">fired</a> her just weeks after the verdict came down.
Although Combs was <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/07/03/nx-s1-5454769/sean-combs-found-guilty-on-2-counts-but-acquitted-on-most-serious-charges">convicted</a> of prostitution offenses and faces up to 20 years in prison, the jury <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/jury-reaches-verdict-sean-diddy-combs-sex-trafficking-trial-rcna214785">found</a> him not guilty on the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
Incidentally, Comey also <a href="https://apnews.com/article/justice-department-james-comey-maurene-trump-dda5d1f40f08346bd97696ce4791e8ec">worked</a> on district’s prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. That case <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/ghislaine-maxwell-sentenced-20-years-prison-conspiring-jeffrey-epstein-sexually-abuse">ended</a> with a conviction and a 20-year prison sentence but left so many unanswered questions that it’s difficult to call it an unqualified win.
During her confirmation hearings, Attorney General Pam Bondi <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pam-bondi-senate-confirmation-hearing-attorney-general-nominee-planned-remarks/">promised</a> to end “partisan weaponization” and “restore confidence and integrity to the Department of Justice – and each of its components.”

A man was arrested and charged with felony assault after throwing a Subway sandwich at a federal agent on the streets of Washington, D.C., earlier this week. Attorney General Pam Bondi revealed on Thursday that the man worked for the Department of Justice.
A <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWa7r4B3ihg">video</a> recorded by a bystander showed 37-year-old Sean Charles Dunn confronting federal agents who were dispatched under President Donald Trump&#8217;s order to federalize the D.C. police department and address the capital&#8217;s violent crime. In the video, Dunn shouts at the federal agents, calling them &#8220;fascists&#8221; and yelling, &#8220;F*** you!&#8221;
Dunn began to walk away with his Subway sandwich, but then returned and asked bystanders which vehicles the federal agents were using. He then crossed the street and approached a group of federal agents. He continued to berate the federal law enforcement officers before winding up and throwing his sandwich at the chest of an agent. A foot chase ensued before the DOJ employee was arrested.

In a <a href="https://x.com/AGPamBondi/status/1956010229348413694">post</a> on X Thursday morning, AG Bondi said that she &#8220;just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice.&#8221; Bondi added that Dunn was fired from the DOJ and charged with a felony.

The criminal complaint against Dunn says that he admitted to throwing the sandwich at the officer, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/08/13/us-news/dc-man-sean-charles-dunn-charged-with-felony-assault-after-hitting-federal-agent-with-subway-sandwich/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost">reported</a>.  U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said that the suspect thought his action &#8220;was funny.&#8221;
&#8220;Well, he doesn&#8217;t think it&#8217;s funny today because we charged him with a felony: assault on a police officer,&#8221; Pirro added. &#8220;And we&#8217;re going to back the police to the hilt, so there, stick your Subway sandwich somewhere else.&#8221;

Trump&#8217;s move to federalize the Metropolitan Police Department and send in federal agents and the National Guard to address violent crime has met pushback from local and Congressional Democrats. Some D.C. residents have also taken to the streets to protest Trump&#8217;s law and order directive. Some D.C. residents gathered on city streets Wednesday night, shouting at federal agents with messages such as, “Go home, fascists” and “Get off our streets,&#8221; the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/washington-police-takeover-trump-crime-national-guard-6afb751c7691e8f184057d8a16ddbbe7">reported</a>.
Federal agents, in collaboration with the D.C. police department, have made around 150 arrests since Trump ordered them to tackle violent crime in the nation&#8217;s capital.

An Obama-appointed Manhattan federal judge denied the Trump administration&#8217;s request to unseal grand jury transcripts in the case against Jeffrey Epstein associate and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, saying that move &#8220;would not reveal new information of any consequence.&#8221;
U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer ruled on Monday that the Trump administration did not make a compelling case to reveal grand jury testimony, which is kept secret to protect privacy, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/08/11/us-news/manhattan-judge-denies-trump-admin-bid-to-unseal-ghislaine-maxwell-grand-jury-transcripts/">reported</a>. In his decision, Engelmayer blasted the Justice Department&#8217;s argument for seeking to unseal the transcripts.
“Its entire premise — that the Maxwell grand jury materials would bring to light meaningful new information about Epstein’s and Maxwell’s crimes, or the Government’s investigation into them — is demonstrably false,” the judge wrote, according to <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/11/jeffrey-epstein-ghislaine-maxwell-trump-grand-jury.html">CNBC</a>.
“The Court’s review confirmed that unsealing the grand jury materials would not reveal new information of any consequence,” Engelmayer added.
The ruling is yet another setback for the DOJ in its effort to give the public more information about the Epstein case after backlash to the department&#8217;s conclusion that there was no evidence that Epstein kept a client list. Last month, a federal judge in Florida <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hands-are-tied-federal-judge-denies-dojs-request-to-unseal-epstein-grand-jury-transcripts?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=%E2%80%98Hands+Are+Tied%E2%80%99%3A+Federal+Judge+Denies+DOJ%E2%80%99s+Request+To+Unseal+Epstein+Grand+Jury+Transcripts">denied</a> the Trump administration&#8217;s request to unseal grand jury transcripts from the investigation into Epstein. In that decision, Judge Robin L. Rosenberg — another Obama appointee — said that &#8220;the Court&#8217;s hands are tied&#8221; as the law does not allow her to unseal the grand jury testimony.
Judge Engelmayer added in his decision that the Maxwell grand jury transcripts &#8220;do not contribute anything to public knowledge.&#8221;
“A member of the public &#8230; might conclude that the Government’s motion for their unsealing was aimed not at ‘transparency’ but at diversion — aimed not at full disclosure but at the illusion of such,” Engelmayer wrote. “Contrary to the Government’s depiction, the Maxwell grand jury testimony is not a matter of significant historical or public interest. Far from it. It consists of garden-variety summary testimony by two law enforcement agents.”
Maxwell, who recently agreed to sit down with the Justice Department and answer questions related to Epstein for two straight days, has been pushing for a pardon from President Donald Trump, as she also appeals her case to the Supreme Court. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 for her role in the Epstein scheme to sexually abuse and exploit minor girls. She is currently serving out a 20-year sentence and was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-moved-from-florida-prison-to-lower-security-facility">moved</a> to a lower-security prison shortly after her meeting with Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche.
Last week, Maxwell&#8217;s attorneys came out in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-opposes-doj-move-to-unseal-grand-jury-transcripts">opposition</a> to releasing the grand jury transcripts, saying, “Jeffrey Epstein is dead. Ghislaine Maxwell is not. Whatever interest the public may have in Epstein, that interest cannot justify a broad intrusion into grand jury secrecy in a case where the defendant is alive, her legal options are viable, and her due process rights remain.”
Another DOJ request to unseal grand jury testimony related to Epstein&#8217;s indictment in Manhattan is still sitting before another federal judge.

WASHINGTON—The FBI is investigating the Saturday night beating of a man and woman in Cincinnati, The Daily Wire has learned.
The FBI launched an investigation into the matter at Attorney General Pam Bondi&#8217;s direction, a Justice Department official shared with The Daily Wire on Monday evening. The official also said the bureau is already conducting interviews with suspects.
The news comes after Vice President JD Vance and other members of President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vance-calls-for-man-caught-in-viral-video-punching-woman-to-be-jailed-for-a-very-long-time">condemned the incident</a>, which took place Saturday night at the Cincinnati Music Festival.
<a href="https://x.com/still_hustling/status/1949142756196065519">Footage showed</a> a violent mob throwing a man to the ground and kicking and punching him, then punching a woman in the face and apparently knocking her unconscious. The video quickly went viral online, and the city’s police chief vowed to identify and find the culprits responsible for the “cruel and absolutely unacceptable” behavior.

“What I saw, and I haven’t seen the full context, but what I saw a mob of lawless thugs beating up on an innocent person and it’s disgusting,” Vance <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1949850196143174059" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said of the incident</a>. “And I hope every single one of those people who engaged in violence is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.&#8221;
&#8220;And they will be,&#8221; he added. &#8220;They will be so long as law enforcement in the state of Ohio take their jobs seriously.”
Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police President Ken Kober also condemned the violence, including the people who watched the mob beat the two individuals without attempting to help.
“The violence this video shows downtown is disgusting,” Kober told the local news outlet <a href="https://www.fox19.com/2025/07/27/ll-cool-j-brings-surprise-guest-stage-during-final-night-cincinnati-music-festival/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WLWT</a>. “What’s equally disgusting is those who chose to watch and record instead of calling 911, attempting to defuse the situation or render aid.&#8221;
&#8220;I have full faith in the Central Business Section Investigators — they will make arrests in the near future,&#8221; he added. &#8220;It will then be the responsibility of the court system to hold these violent thugs accountable.”

FBI Investigating Brutal Cincinnati Mob Beating, Interviewing Suspects

Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell gave the Department of Justice information on “100 different people” linked to child sex predator Jeffrey Epstein, her lawyer David Oscar Markus told reporters on Friday, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/25/us-news/ghislaine-maxwell-gave-doj-info-about-100-different-people-linked-to-jeffrey-epstein-lawyer-says/">the New York Post</a>.
Maxwell met with the DOJ on Thursday and Friday and was grilled by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, answering &#8220;every single question,&#8221; according to Markus.
“This was the first opportunity she’s ever been given to answer questions about what happened,” Maxwell&#8217;s lawyer said. “The truth will come out about what happened with Mr. Epstein, and she’s the person who’s answering those questions.”
Markus did not say whether Maxwell&#8217;s discussions with the DOJ tied anyone else to Epstein&#8217;s crimes. Markus was challenged by one reporter about two previous perjury counts against Maxwell, and replied by pointing to the federal government dropping those charges after she was convicted of sex trafficking.
The Trump administration is pursuing multiple avenues to release more information on the Epstein case after facing criticism for its handling of the investigation. The DOJ is also requesting that federal judges in New York and Florida unseal grand jury transcripts in Epstein&#8217;s and Maxwell&#8217;s cases. A federal judge in Florida <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hands-are-tied-federal-judge-denies-dojs-request-to-unseal-epstein-grand-jury-transcripts">denied</a> the DOJ&#8217;s request earlier this week, saying that her &#8220;hands are tied&#8221; and she does not have the authority to release the sensitive records.
Maxwell is in the process of appealing her conviction, and some commentators and legal analysts have floated that Epstein&#8217;s co-conspirator is providing more information to the DOJ in hopes of securing clemency from President Donald Trump.
As the DOJ was questioning Maxwell, Trump was asked Friday morning if he would <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-hes-allowed-to-pardon-ghislaine-maxwell-keeps-option-open-after-doj-meeting">consider a pardon</a> for the sex trafficker, who is serving a 20-year sentence.
“It’s something I haven’t thought about,” Trump responded. “I’m allowed to do it, but it’s something I have not thought about.”
Maxwell&#8217;s lawyer commented on a potential pardon or commutation, calling Trump &#8220;the ultimate dealmaker,&#8221; adding, “We hope he exercises that power in a right and just way.
On Thursday, Markus said that Maxwell was questioned &#8220;all day,&#8221; but he did not comment &#8220;on the substance&#8221; of the meeting, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/top-doj-official-todd-blanche-meeting-with-ghislaine-maxwell/">reported</a>.
&#8220;This is the first time that the government has asked questions, so we were thankful that the deputy attorney general came and asked her questions. It&#8217;s the first time the government did it. So it was a good day,&#8221; Markus added.
