“Star Trek” actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/william-shatner" target="_blank" rel="noopener">William Shatner</a> had a conversation Thursday about his decision to work on a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/documentary" target="_blank" rel="noopener">documentary</a> about his life and career.
The 91-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">actor</a> was blunt with his choice of words, admitting that his advanced age made him realize it was now or never.
“I’ve turned down a lot of offers to do documentaries before,” Shatner told Variety in an <a href="https://variety.com/2023/film/news/william-shatner-star-trek-space-travel-death-leonard-nimoy-documentary-1235548320/">interview</a> published Thursday. “But I don’t have long to live. Whether I keel over as I’m speaking to you or 10 years from now, my time is limited, so that’s very much a factor. I’ve got grandchildren. This documentary is a way of reaching out after I die.”
The Canadian actor went on to reflect on getting older, saying, “The sad thing is that the older a person gets the wiser they become and then they die with all that knowledge. And it’s gone. It’s not like I’m going to take my ideas or my clothing with me.”
The documentary, “You Can Call Me Bill,” is being presented via the crowdfunding site Legion M, Variety <a href="https://variety.com/2023/digital/news/william-shatner-documentary-equity-crowdfunding-sells-out-1235508016/">noted</a> in a previous report. Unlike other crowdfunding models, Legion M gives investors an equity stake in the entertainment projects they’re backing. The publication noted that all the shares for Shatner’s documentary totaling $790,000 were purchased within a week. 
Shatner also used the interview to discuss his feelings about climate change and how he feels human beings are “destroying” the planet.
While discussing his ride aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space shuttle in 2021, the actor said he started getting emotional after landing.
“When I came out of the space ship I was crying, just sobbing, and I thought &#8216;Why am I crying? What’s going on? I’m in grief. What am I grieving about? Oh s***, I’m grieving about the world, because I now know so much about what’s happening,&#8217;” he said.
“I saw the Earth and its beauty and its destruction. It’s going extinct,” Shatner insisted. “Billions of years of evolution may vanish. It’s sacred, it’s holy, it’s life and it’s gone. It’s beyond tragic. We stupid f***ing animals are destroying this gorgeous thing called the Earth. Doesn’t that make you angry? Don’t you want to do something about it?”
This sentiment echoed what the “Star Trek” alum <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/william-shatner-had-strongest-feelings-of-grief-about-climate-change-during-space-trip-all-i-saw-was-death">said before</a> about his trip to space. “It filled me with dread. My trip to space was supposed to be a celebration; instead, it felt like a funeral,” he wrote in his memoir.

The video hosting platform, Vimeo, has removed another documentary critical of &#8220;gender-affirming care&#8221; less than a month after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vimeo-removes-documentary-on-parents-perspectives-of-trans-identified-children-for-hateful-content">deplatforming</a> &#8220;Dead Name,&#8221; a film told from the perspectives of three parents whose children were introduced to &#8220;gender identity&#8221; ideology.
&#8220;Affirmation Generation: The Lies of Transgender Medicine,&#8221; a <a href="https://affirmationgenerationmovie.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new film</a> created by self-described “lifelong, West Coast Liberal Democrats,” has been wiped off the video-sharing service less than four days after its online release. The documentary explores the potential dangers of the model of healthcare that &#8220;affirms&#8221; both children and adults in their transgender identities with powerful hormones and irreversible surgeries rather than noninvasive treatment options.  
&#8220;There is no room for such censorship in a democratic society,&#8221; the film&#8217;s creator, Vera Lindner, told The Daily Wire. &#8220;The detransitioners, who are shunned, silenced and brutalized online, have been silenced again.&#8221;
The film features stories from six detransitioners who were steered into irreversible sex change treatments and now regret their procedures. Many described being affirmed on their first appointment and pushed toward medical transition without adequate diagnosis or mental health evaluations.
“Detransitioners Michelle, Laura, Cat, David, Joel and Abel tell their stories of their gender distress, transgender medicalization, and subsequent detransition,” reads the documentary press release. “Without diagnostic clarity or mental health evaluations, they were affirmed on their first appointment and sent on a path of medical transition by their doctors. These young people were harmed irrevocably by the doctors they trusted.”
It delves into the reasons young people with severe mental health issues are permitted to remove perfectly healthy body parts at the behest of a radical postmodern ideology. According to the film, the &#8220;informed consent&#8221; model, which is based on the idea that mental health assessments are unnecessary barriers to care, requires a person to sign a consent form before undergoing chemical and surgical sex change procedures. This model has been widely adopted by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/google-removes-gender-clinic-map-citing-harassment-violation">gender clinics</a>, which were sparse a decade ago, but have grown exponentially to several hundred locations in North America. Critics say the growth is due to patient demand, not medical necessity.   
The film features interviews with psychotherapists, mental health professionals, and medical doctors who are raising alarms. They are concerned about the explosive increase in adolescents, especially young girls without prior history of gender distress, adopting a transgender identity and the pathway they are put on toward lifelong medicalization. 
&#8220;We made an extraordinary effort to include statements of truth and fact, money trails that are easily documented by a quick, or deep search online, and tried to make it balanced, non-political and non-ideological,&#8221; said Lindner. 
&#8220;We cited 45 peer-reviewed medical articles that are a click away, and platformed 12 experts with decades of clinical practice, including an Oxford professor,&#8221; she added. 
Throughout the film, experts rebuke the common claims that puberty blockers are fully reversible and that &#8220;gender-affirming&#8221; care is life-saving. Oxford sociology professor Dr. Michael Biggs addresses the affirm-or-suicide myth using <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8888486/">data</a> he collected from the U.K.&#8217;s largest pediatric gender clinic. He found that only four patients out of about 15,000 between 2010 to 2020 were known or suspected to have died by suicide. 
The documentary explores how U.S.-based medical associations depart from a growing international consensus that has abandoned the &#8220;affirmative&#8221; model of care. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/swedens-new-pediatric-treatment-guidelines-ditch-gender-affirming-medication-for-psychotherapy">Sweden,</a> <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/englands-national-health-service-abandons-gender-affirming-model-of-care">England</a>, and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/finlands-leading-gender-dysphoria-expert-says-4-out-of-5-children-grow-out-of-gender-confusion">Finland</a> have conducted systematic reviews of the available evidence on puberty-blocking drugs and cross-sex hormones used in pediatric gender medicine, as has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/florida-medical-boards-vote-to-ban-medical-transition-for-minors">Florida’s Boards of Medicine</a>, with each concluding that the risks far outweigh any purported benefits. This resulted in the closure of prominent gender clinics, strict restrictions on the use of cross-sex hormones, and banning gender-related surgeries for minors in European countries and Florida.
For the time being, the 90-minute film can be viewed on <a href="https://www.thedistancemag.com/p/affirmation-generation-the-lies-of">thedistancemag.com</a>, a substack by gay and lesbian authors dedicated to viewpoint diversity surrounding the contentious topic of &#8220;gender identity&#8221; politics. 
Vimeo did not respond to The Daily Wire&#8217;s request for comment.

A popular video hosting platform removed a new documentary told from the perspectives of parents whose children were introduced to radical gender theory.   
The new indie film, &#8220;Dead Name,&#8221; was <a href="https://vimeo.com/784469337" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hosted</a> on Vimeo for just over a month until Monday, when its creators discovered it had been wiped from the video-sharing platform. The documentary follows the stories of three parents who struggled with their children&#8217;s newly announced transgender identity. 
&#8220;We can confirm that Vimeo removed the video in question for violating our Terms of Service prohibiting discriminatory or hateful content,&#8221; a representative of Vimeo responded to the Daily Wire&#8217;s request for comment. &#8220;We strive to enforce these policies objectively and consistently across our platform.&#8221;
Vimeo also indicated that the video may have been reported by other users, but was ultimately evaluated by their Trust and Safety team, and was found to be in violation of their terms. The member profile that uploaded the video, Broken Heart Films, was also <a href="https://vimeo.com/user190656908" target="_blank" rel="noopener">erased</a> from their platform. 
Taylor Reece, the film&#8217;s director, called Vimeo&#8217;s decision to deplatform the movie a &#8220;dumb strategy,&#8221; as it had the unintended effect of drawing more attention to it. 
&#8220;Within four hours, &#8216;Dead Name&#8217; was relocated to another <a href="https://www.deadnamedocumentary.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">platform</a> and inadvertently the attempt at &#8216;canceling&#8217; has spiked our sales,&#8221; Reece told the Daily Wire.
She found Vimeo&#8217;s characterization of the film as &#8220;hateful content,&#8221; completely unfounded.
&#8220;The film is the opposite of hate speech,&#8221; Reece said. &#8220;It&#8217;s love speech. In no way do any of these three parents, who tell the story of what it&#8217;s like when their child starts a journey toward transition, spew hate or dogma. Their stories are painstakingly personal, and at times unimaginable.&#8221; 
&#8220;Unfortunately, there are factions out there who do not want this narrative and they have perfected the playbook on getting work like this &#8216;canceled,'&#8221; she added.
The documentary, originally released on December 20, recounts the tales of three heartbroken parents who love their children but have reservations about whether they are truly transgender. 
Helen, who shares custody of a young son with her ex-wife, believes her ex-wife influenced him to adopt a transgender identity. In a shocking clip that opens the <a href="https://youtu.be/jpxDzV3Yr_Y" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trailer</a> of the documentary, Helen&#8217;s 4-year-old son describes the process of a penile-inversion vaginoplasty. 
&#8220;If you want girls&#8217; parts, and you don&#8217;t have them, you can do special surgery where they turn your penis inside out and there&#8217;s a vagina inside,&#8221; the 4-year-old explained. 
Helen recalled her bewilderment at picking up her son from his daycare one day and finding a female name on the entrance sheet and his cubby, and the over-enthusiastic daycare workers that recognized him as a girl.
&#8220;They would say, &#8216;Helen, you should really learn to accept this and celebrate it,&#8217; and I&#8217;m like, &#8216;Celebrate what? That my child is going to be put on hormones, and his penis will never grow and he&#8217;ll never have a normal sex life, and he&#8217;ll be on drugs for the rest of his life?&#8221; Helen said.
Amy&#8217;s story centers around her 15-year-old daughter, who out of nowhere declared that she was transgender and quickly acquired a prescription for testosterone through a Telehealth meeting with Planned Parenthood.
&#8220;There was no psychological evaluation, there was nothing,&#8221; said Amy. 
Bill, whose son battled cancer that tragically required the amputation of one of his legs, was told by a psychiatrist that he was an &#8220;unsupportive, abusive father&#8221; when he was skeptical of his son&#8217;s rapid transformation into a female identity during his first year in college. He is concerned that cross-sex hormones may have contributed to his untimely death at just 18 years old.

The Watergate scandal is perfect fodder for both journalists and Hollywood studios.
Deception! Intrigue! A White House in crisis mode!
It’s no wonder Hollywood created memorable films tied to the scandal over the years, notably “All the President’s Men,” “Frost/Nixon,” “Nixon,” and even “Forrest Gump.” How could the industry resist?
Except Hollywood can’t quit Watergate, even if audiences may be tiring of the subject. Last year, we saw a star-studded recreation of the GOP crisis, and we’ll soon see another high-profile series based on Nixon’s downfall.
It’s hardly a secret why Hollywood keeps cranking out Watergate-related stories. The industry adores taking shots at Republicans, be it President Donald J. Trump or a leader whose Beltway skills were no match for his political paranoia.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hugh-hewitt-the-real-story-of-the-most-famous-political-scandal-in-u-s-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Watergate</a> is too ripe a scandal to leave in the past.
Plus, the era reminds us of a time when journalists doggedly pursued the truth and held the powerful to account. That only happens, alas, when a Republican is in the Oval Office in the 21st Century.
And let’s not forget how Hollywood liberals lionize reporters any chance they get.
Watergate refers both to the D.C. hotel where Nixon’s minions broke into the Democrat National Committee’s headquarters and the machinations behind it and the cover up.
The last few years have seen major films tied to President Richard M. Nixon’s undoing. Liam Neeson portrayed the man known as Deep Throat, in the 2017 drama “Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House.”
The film hit theaters in the heat of awards season, but got summarily ignored by voters across the Hollywood landscape. Neither critics nor crowds gave the film much respect.
That same year, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep teamed up for “The Post.” The film took a loving look at both The Washington Post and its reporters’ efforts to publish the Pentagon Papers. President Nixon anchors the film’s waning moments as The Post investigated a curious burglary at the Watergate hotel.
Documentarians also have had a field day with Watergate. 
The 2022 film “The Martha Mitchell Effect” (40 minutes) recalled the wife of the U.S. attorney general who tried to warn the public about nefarious actions within the Nixon White House. Some within Nixon’s inner circle tried to dismiss the charges by alleging Martha Mitchell suffered from mental health woes, but the facts eventually proved her right.
Last year, CBS and Paramount+ teamed to bring us “Watergate: High Crimes in the White House.” The documentary, released 50 years after the initial burglary, looked at how a seemingly minor crime ballooned into a crisis that ended Nixon’s presidency.
CNN pounced on the anniversary, too, producing a docuseries called “Watergate: Blueprint for a Scandal,” narrated by former Nixon White House counsel John Dean.
Not all Watergate-themed projects draw a crowd, though. “Mark Felt” earned an embarrassing $768,946 at U.S. theaters, and the Starz series “Gaslit” got all but ignored by the pop culture zeitgeist.
That 2022 series boasted two Oscar winners – Sean Penn and Julia Roberts – plus stories that allegedly got less attention during the 1970s. The limited series included Martha Mitchell (Roberts) and her attempts to blow the whistle on White House malfeasance.
Starz uncorks another Watergate-themed movie this spring. “18 ½,” named after the gap in time found in the Watergate tapes, is a companion piece, of sorts, to the channel’s “Gaslit.” Dubbed a thriller/comedy, “18 ½” follows a woman who turns on President Nixon and leaks the infamous tape to a reporter. The film stars Willa Fitzgerald, John Magaro, Vondie Curtis Hall, Richard Kind, Sullivan Jones and the voice of cult movie fave Bruce Campbell as Nixon.
This year, Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux team for HBO’s “White House Plumbers,” Partly based on the book “Integrity” by Egil “Bud” Krogh and Matthew Krogh, “Plumbers” explore how Nixon’s saboteur dream team — Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy — ended up doing more damage to the cause than good.
The project, co-produced by liberal scribe Frank Rich, focuses both on the humorous aspects of the crisis as well as the nuts and bolts details of the initial burglary.
Why the drip-drip-drip of Hollywood projects based on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watergate-doesnt-mean-what-press-thinks-it-means-andrew-klavan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Watergate</a>? The industry understands the soft power that storytelling offers, and it relentlessly applies it across the creative board. It’s why we see a similar onslaught of stories based on the 1950s blacklist era.
That historical chapter showed the GOP’s cartoonish overreach, plus it paints Hollywood figures like screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in heroic fashion. 
Hollywood isn’t done with the Blacklist era, either.
This year, we’ll see “McCarthy,” a feature-length biography of the hard-charging senator played by Michael Shannon.
Plus, these films and TV shows allow the artists to not only explore the past but use history as a modern-day cudgel against their ideological foes. The film’s director, Václav Marhoul, made “McCarthy” to <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/mccarthy-director-michael-shannon-mccarthyism-symbol-evil-1235036853/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">draw parallels between the senator and modern politicians.</a>
“These people are very dangerous. And I realized this when I watched the news in January and saw Donald Trump and his call for the Capitol attack. But it’s not just about Trump. Over the past decade in Europe and all over the world, there are so many Joe McCarthys. For instance in Brazil it’s Bolsonaro, in England, it’s Johnson. It’s about populism,” Marhoul said.
Journalists, who openly root for one party over another, will prod these stars to make statements like this without the benefit of balance or fact checks.
Nixon becomes Trump, or Ron DeSantis, or Ted Cruz. Whatever works for the artist in question, and that message gets spread far and wide.
That means we haven’t seen the last of Watergate on screens large and small.

Serial killers are all the rage on podcasts and docuseries like “The Jeffrey Dahmer Files.” We can’t get enough of them.
Tales of stars who fall from grace, however, may come in a close second. It’s why the <a href="https://www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2022/12/apple-tv-announces-new-two-part-documentary-event-featuring-tennis-legend-boris-becker-from-oscar-winning-filmmakers-alex-gibney-and-john-battsek/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">upcoming docuseries</a> on tennis great turned inmate Boris Becker is bound to draw a crowd.
Becker, 55, once reigned as part of the tennis elite. He was the youngest male singles champion at Wimbledon (17 years of age) and capped his career with <a href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/Boris-Becker">49 singles wins, 15 doubles titles and three Wimbledon victories.</a> and ultimately three Wimbledon victories. His post-tennis life looked promising as he landed broadcasting work with the BBC and spent three years coaching modern great Novak Djokovic to six major titles.
Money woes were never far behind, though. Becker was convicted on <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2002/oct/25/germany.tennis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tax evasion charges in 2002</a> and paid a fine for his troubles. He later filed for bankruptcy in 2017, hinting at a sprawling financial debt marked by child support and his lifestyle excesses.
Earlier this year, he was convicted of hiding assets and loans and sentenced to two and a half years in prison. He was released earlier this month, his reputation in tatters.
The judge in the case pulled no punches, noting how <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-61276378" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Becker hadn’t shown enough humility</a> during the trial nor did he learn the lessons from his previous fine.
The two-part docuseries on Becker’s fall, helmed by Oscar-winner Alex Gibney, culminates a three-year interview process that included Becker’s April incarceration. Gibney is one of the genre’s biggest names, a Left-leaning auteur whose previous work includes “Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer” and “Taxi to the Dark Side.”
Interest is high in the docuseries. The February 2023 Berlin Film Festival already scooped the documentary up, even before it’s been given a title. The finished product will air on Apple TV+ presumably later in 2023.
Becker isn’t the only star to get entangled in financial woes. Country music legend Willie Nelson famously battled the IRS and lost, a fight that went public in 1990. Time magazine called Nelson a “Top Ten Tax Dodger,” but the clever crooner made the most of his troubles.
He recorded an album in 1992 called “The IRS Tapes: Who Will Buy My Memories” and squared away <a href="https://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1891335_1891333_1891322,00.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his IRS debt in 1993</a>, with a little help from his friends. Admirers scooped up much of the material Nelson put up for auction to settle his government tab and, later, handed it back to the singing legend.
Just imagine that as the final sequence in a Willie Nelson biopic.
White-collar crime doesn’t have the body count of serial killer yarns, but the public’s fascination with them is clear. Audiences love rags-to-riches stories. They’re part and parcel of the American dream, the concept that anyone, at any time, can rise up based on their natural gifts and hard work.
When those riches devolve back to rags, though, we can’t look away. Consider how both Netflix and Hulu served up separate documentaries about the Fyre Festival, the music gala that imploded before a single note could be sung.
Rapper Ja Rule, who co-founded the festival with Billy McFarland, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2019/nov/19/ja-rule-fyre-festival-lawsuit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">escaped legal woes</a> from the debacle. McFarland wasn’t so fortunate, serving jail time for his scheme and <a href="https://www.billboard.com/pro/fyre-fest-billy-mcfarland-prison-pal-investor-extorting-him/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">owing his investors $26 million.</a>
The public remains fascinated by wealth and celebrity, but it’s equally compelling to see people fumble those privileges in startling fashion. One reason we were transfixed by the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard legal fight was hearing how Depp had lost more than his marriage. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” superstar squandered millions on his <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/31/how-johnny-depp-blows-2-million-a-month.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">extravagant wine budget</a>, for example, a tidbit that seems almost comical in its detachment from reality.
Yet for Depp, that was his version of normalcy.
Director John McTiernan could give a director like Gibney plenty of material. McTiernan delivered three of the most iconic action films of the late 20th century – “Predator” (1987), “Die Hard” (1988), and “The Hunt for Red October” (1990).
More hits followed, including 1995’s “Die Hard with a Vengeance,” but his personal and professional lives collapsed when he was <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2013/jun/04/hollywood-director-john-mctiernan-prison" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent to jail in 2013</a> for perjury and lying to the FBI in connection with his 2002 flop remake of “Rollerball.”
McTiernan’s Hollywood days effectively ended following his imprisonment, but a documentary (or docuseries) capturing his life might make must-see viewing. Or, talk of his comeback vehicle, the sci-fi action yarn “Tau Ceti Four,” could come to fruition and give his life a vital, third-act twist.
The Wesley Snipes story follows a similar arc but offers a happier ending. The action star’s career screeched to a halt when he went to jail in 2010 for tax evasion. Three years later Snipes returned to society and Hollywood, and he’s since secured strong notices for work in films like “Dolemite Is My Name” and “Coming 2 America.”
Snipes told People magazine in 2020 <a href="https://people.com/movies/wesley-snipes-reflects-prison-time-tax-evasion/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he accepts the blame</a> for his actions and emerged a better person.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve gained so much more. I understand so much more … And if two and a half years of my life were in meditation and isolation up at that camp out of the 100 I plan on living, good deal. Good deal.&#8221;
Snipes’ comeback story would similarly make a good film or docu-project. And, chances are, it would get big ratings when it hits a streaming platform.

The climate may be getting hot, but AOC&#8217;s new movie is most definitely not.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has a new documentary out, &#8220;To The End.&#8221; And if movie theaters are paying attention to ticket sales, they&#8217;ll realize it&#8217;s already run to the end.
The flick opened on Dec. 9 at 120 theaters. But since then, it&#8217;s made just $9,667, <a href="https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl3017704193/?ref_=bo_tt_gr_1">according</a> to BoxOfficeMoJo.
That&#8217;s $80.55 per screen.
And let&#8217;s say the tickets are $16.25, as they are at Regal Theaters. That would equate to fewer than 600 people who actually saw it.
Perhaps viewers just didn&#8217;t want to sit through this: &#8220;Stopping the climate crisis is a question of political courage, and the clock is ticking. Over three years of turbulence and crisis, four young women fight for a Green New Deal, and ignite a historic shift in U.S. climate politics,&#8221; said the movie&#8217;s synopsis.

Of course, the critics hailed it; the film drew an 83% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes. But even there, the movie got some spotty reviews.
&#8220;&#8216;To the End&#8217; keeps its large canvas entertaining and informative. Even so, it preaches enough to the choir that this documentary can hardly serve as an introduction for those belatedly coming to terms with its central issues,&#8221; <a href="https://variety.com/2022/film/festivals/to-the-end-review-1235158133/">Variety</a> wrote.
Greg Gutfeld, a host of Fox News&#8217;s &#8220;The Five,&#8221; mused about the movie&#8217;s poor performance on Tuesday.
&#8220;Who would go see a movie that&#8217;s the opposite of entertaining?&#8221; he <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/aoc-box-office-disaster-reminds-critics-shes-flop-congress-she-doesnt-do-job">said</a>. &#8220;There&#8217;s nothing entertaining about that. … But it does show you how great it is to be a progressive in a liberal, biased culture,&#8221; he said. &#8220;She really doesn&#8217;t do her job, right? She makes movies, she goes to galas. She sits for glossy, butt-kissing interviews in GQ and other women&#8217;s mags.&#8221;
Co-host Jesse Watters said AOC might be popular in her highly liberal enclave in New York, but that doesn&#8217;t translate nationwide.
&#8220;This is what politicians often get confused about: Just because you&#8217;re popular in politics doesn&#8217;t mean you&#8217;re popular anywhere else. In fact, usually people that can&#8217;t do anything anywhere else go into politics to succeed. And she found out that the hard way,&#8221; Watters said.
Watters said the film features AOC hiking but focuses on &#8220;her whole life on social media &#8212; You can never see her in private. Everything is on social media. I&#8217;ve never seen her hike before, but the one time she does a documentary about the environment, she&#8217;s out there doing the Appalachian Trail: I&#8217;m not buying it.&#8221;

Amid their quest for peace and privacy, former senior royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just released the first three episodes of their highly anticipated Netflix docuseries. “Harry &amp; Meghan” is making headlines not because of shocking revelations, but rather because it didn’t manage to reveal much at all.
The initial three episodes provide some backstory on Harry and Meghan’s relationship but besides showing off a few new photos and revealing that the pair actually met because of a social media post, there’s nothing here that fans didn’t already know.
Even the most pro-Sussex outlets aren’t thrilled with “Harry &amp; Meghan” so far. The reviews of the first half are mostly terrible, earning a 50% critics score on <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/harry_and_meghan/s01" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rotten Tomatoes</a> and a 12% audience score.
U.K. based newspapers were especially harsh with their criticism, which makes sense considering how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex blamed them for so many of their troubles. The Telegraph called “Harry &amp; Meghan” a &#8220;very Californian exercise in grievance.&#8221; They went on, <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2022/12/08/sussexes-documentary-californian-exercise-grievance/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">saying</a>, “the politics of racial division should not be forced upon British society from across the pond.”
Meanwhile, The Spectator magazine called it “tedious” and worst of all, unnecessary. That reviewer also said that despite claims to the contrary, the first episodes didn’t contain anything new or interesting.
“Over a near-interminable first three hours, the viewer endures a mixture of the same biographical material that we’ve all seen a thousand times before,” the reviewer noted. “We see hagiographic treatment of the apparently saintly Harry and Meghan, angry attacks on the media coverage and racist harassment directed towards Meghan.”
“So far, this is a well-filmed, comprehensive and deeply tedious wallow in narcissism,” the review continues. “The kindest thing that you can say is that the couple seem very much in love, although the levels of artifice involved here make such a judgment tricky.”
The Times review was equally negative. While they also noted the couple’s love for each other, it was apparently second to their love for themselves. “What I mainly took away was the sense of a couple so in love with themselves that they had lost any semblance of self-awareness,” the reviewer <a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/harry-meghan-review-netflix-documentary-volume-1-episode-2022-3s2tzmqp3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>.
Fans expected more of a direct assault on the royal family or members therein, sort of like what Harry and Meghan did during their now infamous interview with Oprah. Instead, the three episodes so far are critical in a more roundabout way. That’s good news for the royal family if they were bracing to defend themselves but bad news for any viewers who were expecting some entertainment.
“The viewer might have expected a lacerating, full-frontal assault on Harry and Meghan’s nemeses and detractors. Instead, we get a strange mixture of earnest history lesson, self-consciously goofy romantic comedy and a salutary reminder of how awful the British press is,” The Spectator reviewer shared.
The Guardian <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/live/2022/dec/08/harry-meghan-netflix-documentary-royal-family-media-reaction-live-updates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> it was &#8220;a one-sided PR effort with no critical or dissenting voices about the couple’s behavior or any tough questioning.”
“In the end – what are we left with? Exactly the same story we always knew, told in the way we would expect to hear it from the people who are telling it.”
The Post reviewer <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/12/08/harry-meghan-netflix-doc-is-hypocritical-attention-grab/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pointed out</a> the strange decision of the Sussexes to quit the royal family and then release a Netflix show about their lives.
“What’s also baffling is that for all that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle bemoan how they’ve been hounded by paparazzi and the media has invaded their lives, in ‘Harry and Meghan,’ they’re also inviting the public into their private relationship, and releasing behind the scenes private photos in it,” the reviewer notes. 
In the end, she dubs the series “self-indulgent and hypocritical.”
One of the more controversial moments of the new series happened when Meghan was describing curtsying for Queen Elizabeth the first time. The former “Suits” star recalls asking Harry if he was joking when he described the proper protocol. A clip of Meghan mocking the proper curtsy form while Harry makes an uncomfortable face has been making the rounds on social media.
Tory MP Mark Jenkinson <a href="https://twitter.com/markjenkinsonmp/status/1600894310710661121" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shared</a> his take of the moment, writing, “The ultimate betrayal. And he just sits and watches.” These episodes were filmed prior to the queen’s death in early September, but royal fans still felt Meghan’s overall demeanor was disrespectful. Her mockery seems even harsher after the monarch’s passing.
The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/09/style/harry-meghan-netflix-documentary.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">review</a> said the first episodes had “all the intimacy of Instagram,” meaning it was clear that each moment was carefully curated and staged so the couple looked their best and appeared to be revealing intimate snapshots when really they were not.
“They tell the soft-focus tale Harry and Meghan want to get out, perhaps even more than they want to get out their opinions about the role of monarchy in the modern world,” the NYT reviewer writes of the images shared on “Harry &amp; Meghan.”
“They convey an agenda all their own,” the reviewer continues.
The audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes eviscerate the Sussexes for being self-absorbed and not even slightly self-aware.
“To watch two forty year olds bemoan the exceptionally rarified if imperfect life of being a royal &#8211; amidst war, three years of covid and millions of deaths, and economic peril for so many &#8211; from the confines of a 14 bathroom home in Montecito shows a level of self-absorption that is rare to witness, even among Hollywood,” one reviewer wrote.
“That the couple thinks their narrative in this show and their bitter words for their family is doing a better job at crafting a positive image for themselves than the royals were doing is staggering and shows how out of touch they are.”
They go on, saying Harry and Meghan have “done such a successful job at making themselves look self-absorbed, mean, manipulative and negative that the royal family really doesn&#8217;t even need to issue any rebuttals at this point.”
The second three episodes of “Harry &amp; Meghan” will become available on Netflix starting December 15.

Close friends of Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly &#8220;sickened&#8221; by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/prince-harry">Prince Harry</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/meghan-markle">Meghan Markle</a>&#8216;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/netflix">Netflix</a> documentary trailer, which was notably released during the former couple&#8217;s trip to America.
Critics accuse the former royals of painting William and Kate as cold and adversarial to Harry and Meghan, who are portrayed as madly in love and scared for their well-being. In particular, one photo of a stony-looking Kate shown in the trailer is angering allies of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
&#8220;I was appalled when I watched this trailer, frankly, It&#8217;s everything we feared, it really is,&#8221; royal expert Richard Eden <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11491897/Harry-Meghan-Netflix-trailer-Richard-Eden-shares-strong-reaction.html">told</a> The Daily Mail. &#8220;I&#8217;ve heard from Friends of Prince William and Catherine today, and they&#8217;ve been frankly sickened by what&#8217;s appeared in this video. The use of William and Catherine and the image and the way it&#8217;s presented, my goodness.&#8221;
Eden noted the photo was juxtaposed with footage of Meghan crying.

Friends of William and Kate believe the team behind the documentary &#8220;seem to have gone to great lengths to find the one unflattering image of Catherine for this trailer.&#8221;
&#8220;I mean come on, Meghan is meant to have given up acting but she seems to be back acting again for this reality show or documentary series,&#8221; Eden slammed. &#8220;We don&#8217;t just see her in tears at one point. That&#8217;s not enough: not one single tear dripping down her cheek.&#8221;
Eden added that Markle made it a point to “emphasize these tears.”

“No one sees what’s happening behind closed doors,” Harry says in the trailer, while Meghan claims they had to tell their &#8220;story&#8221; because the &#8220;stakes are this high.&#8221;
“At its core, their relationship looks like many others: They met, had a whirlwind romance, fell in love, got married, had children, and built a life based on shared values and mutual support of each other’s work and ambitions,&#8221; the Netflix blurb describes the “Harry &amp; Meghan” project. &#8220;But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no ordinary couple. Theirs is one of the most high-profile love stories in history, and even the most plugged-in fans and followers of their story have never heard it told like this before.”
Others have slammed the timing of the documentary.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/netflix">Netflix</a> just released a trailer for the highly anticipated documentary about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/prince-harry">Prince Harry</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/meghan-markle">Meghan Markle</a>.
The teaser finally reveals the name of the super-secret project about the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/royal-family">royals</a>, which has been kept under wraps along with several other details. “Harry &amp; Meghan” still doesn’t have an official release date, but rumors have persisted that the six-part series would become available sometime in December.
It was directed by two-time Oscar nominee Liz Garbus and is described as a behind-the-scenes look at Harry and Meghan’s love story, from the beginning and on through the drama of the couple deciding to step down as senior working royals.

The trailer includes snapshots and short video clips from their history as working royals and beyond, including snippets of both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appearing emotional.
“No one sees what’s happening behind closed doors,” Harry can be heard saying at one point. Meghan concludes with what appears to be her reason for agreeing to the project: “When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?” she says.
The blurb on Netflix describes “Harry &amp; Meghan” by <a href="https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/harry-meghan-documentary">saying</a>: 
“At its core, their relationship looks like many others: They met, had a whirlwind romance, fell in love, got married, had children, and built a life based on shared values and mutual support of each other’s work and ambitions. But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no ordinary couple. Theirs is one of the most high-profile love stories in history, and even the most plugged-in fans and followers of their story have never heard it told like this before.”
Commenters on YouTube were divided, with many supporters expressing excitement over the new project while critics said it’s nothing but another shameless ploy for attention. Others pointed out the timing of the trailer’s release, which occurs shortly after Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived in Boston on Wednesday, making their first visit to America in eight years. 
In addition to the Netflix documentary, royal followers are awaiting Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir “Spare,” which has a scheduled release date of January 10.

Twitter users are not thrilled that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/casey-anthony">Casey Anthony</a> is finally getting the chance to tell her side of the story after being acquitted of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/crime">murdering</a> her toddler-aged daughter in 2011.
Fans are reacting to a new trailer for the limited <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/documentary">docuseries</a> “Casey Anthony: Where The Truth Lies,&#8221; which will premiere on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/television">Peacock</a> November 29. The short clip doesn’t include any quotes from Anthony but shows her being fitted for a microphone and getting ready to speak. 
&#8220;In 2011, Casey Anthony was accused of murdering her daughter,&#8221; the text of the trailer says. &#8220;She was found not guilty.&#8221;
“Why talk to me now, when you’re not getting creative control?” the interviewer asks. Anthony raises her eyebrows and begins to say something just as the clip ends.

Anthony’s high-profile murder trial captivated the nation more than a decade ago. It detailed the death of her two-year-old daughter Caylee and the strange aspects of the case. 
Caylee’s grandmother reported her missing on July 15, 2008, weeks after she was supposedly last seen on June 16. Anthony claimed her daughter was kidnapped by her babysitter, and she had been too frightened to call the police about it. 
The mom was later charged with first-degree murder after Caylee’s remains were discovered. While the child’s cause of death was undetermined, investigative reports found that duct tape was located near the body, which helped lead to the medical examiner ruling the death a homicide.
The case made headlines for months. Following a month-long trial, a jury deliberated for 11 hours before finding Anthony not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, and aggravated child abuse. She was found guilty of lying to law enforcement.
Despite being found not guilty in court, many people still believe Anthony murdered her daughter and are upset that Peacock is giving her a platform to tell her story.
“Casey Anthony is a pathological liar,” one person <a href="https://twitter.com/BunnyNC/status/1590054930622320641">shared</a>. “She will never come clean about what she did to Caylee, so you are merely providing her a platform for attention and an opportunity to repeat her lies. Caylee deserved to go to school, to grow up, to fall in love, to have a family&#8230;to live.”
“We heard her side of the story IN COURT,” another commenter <a href="https://twitter.com/lolotalksish/status/1590074527161389056">agreed</a>. “Almost everything she told the police during their investigation was a LIE, she sent police on wild goose chases for nannies and places of employment that did not exist. I have no interest in hearing from someone who murdered their baby.”
“I cannot imagine being the executive who signed off on this.  This woman murdered her daughter,” a third person <a href="https://twitter.com/JefFullerMyself/status/1590035484704919552">fumed</a>. 
Multiple people claimed they were canceling their Peacock subscriptions because of the documentary being aired.

A new documentary takes a powerful look at the gender transition phenomenon and the forces behind it.
&#8220;Dysconnected: The Real Story Behind the Transgender Explosion&#8221; scrutinizes the complex social machine driving the popular but experimental practice of medically and socially transitioning gender dysphoric people, especially children.
The effects can be devastating, argue those interviewed in the film.
&#8220;Dysconnected&#8221; had its world premiere on Oct. 8 at the megachurch campus of Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove, California.
The trailblazing documentary was produced by filmmaker Donald J. Johnson and his production company, Runaway Planet Pictures. Johnson wrote, edited, and narrated the film as well. Catholic publisher Ignatius Press executive produced and is <a href="https://ignatius.com/disconnected-dism/">distributing</a> the documentary by DVD. The film is also available <a href="https://runawayplanetpictures.vhx.tv/products/dysconnected">to stream</a>.
&#8220;Dysconnected&#8221; examines how the medical, mental health, education, and pharmaceutical industries have aligned in prescribing a swift gender transition as the solution to gender dysphoria.
The film argues that a slew of medical and social factors contribute to the current tsunami of gender transitions among the young, especially including “the autism factor,” “the cool factor,” “the porn effect,” “the trauma effect,” and trans-identifying people just wanting others to &#8220;know I exist.&#8221;
Several &#8220;detransitioners,&#8221; formerly transgender people who transitioned back to their birth gender, share their stories in the film. Medical and mental health professionals weigh in as well.
The documentary follows the story of Daisy Strongin, now a wife and new mother, who identified as male as a teenager. She went on testosterone and received a double mastectomy but later detransitioned.
&#8220;My story, as someone who has been through the thick of it, can also offer hope to those who have transitioned and may feel regret,&#8221; Strongin told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;It’s an important film because it challenges a narrative that has become so widely accepted and celebrated, that average Americans are too nervous (rightfully so) and vastly ignorant of the endless layers of this issue to oppose it openly,&#8221; she said. &#8220;But the time has come for the status quo to change. It is no longer uncommon for transgender ideology to deeply affect families, especially if they have adolescent or teenage girls.&#8221;
Besides interviewing Strongin, the film also pulls clips from her old vlogs in which she documented her gender transition, including her chest reconstruction surgery, and ultimately her transition back to identifying as female.
Walt Heyer, one of the first detransitioners, and detransitioner Billy Burleigh speak about how sexual abuse can lead to gender transition and share their personal stories. All of the trans-identifying people Heyer works with have been broken in some way in the past, he says.
&#8220;I detransitioned in 1990 when speaking out about it was rare,&#8221; Heyer told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;Today I&#8217;m shocked by how kids are totally unprotected from the indoctrination in public schools and entertainment industry of &#8216;you can select your gender&#8217; and &#8216;don&#8217;t tell your parents.&#8217; I&#8217;m shocked and dismayed by how clinics such as Planned Parenthood prescribe dangerous and addictive cross-sex hormones, aka anabolic steroids, simply for the asking to younger and younger people,&#8221; he said.
Heyer said &#8216;Dysconnected&#8217; is &#8220;important because of the decades-long coverup of the horrific consequences of masculinizing biological females and feminizing biological males through hormones and surgery. People need to know of the irreversible harms it causes, especially to children.&#8221;
The mental health profession has been flooded with &#8220;affirmation care&#8221; protocol that does not always line up with the best interests of the child, Pamela Garfield-Jaeger, a licensed clinical social worker who founded The Truthful Therapist, says in the film.
Autistic children are particularly vulnerable to developing and locking into a transgender identity with &#8220;black and white&#8221; thinking, according to Maria Keffler, cofounder of Advocates Protecting Children, a nonprofit dedicated to &#8220;fighting the gender industry, and especially its predation on children.&#8221;
&#8220;My entire friend group, first we all slowly realized we were gay, and now we&#8217;re all slowly realizing we&#8217;re trans,&#8221; said a 15-year-old female autistic detransitioner who remained anonymous for the film.
Hard-core pornography is also a driving factor in a growing number of young girls identifying as male in order to avoid being sexualized, argue some of the film&#8217;s interviewees.
Others interviewed in the film include Dr. Patrick Lappert, a plastic surgeon in Alabama, billboard activist Chris Elston or &#8220;Billboard Chris&#8221; on Twitter, Erin Brewer, cofounder of Advocates Protecting Children, Ryan T. Anderson, author of &#8220;When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment,&#8221; Christopher West of the Theology of the Body Institute, Abigail Favale, author of &#8220;The Genesis of Gender,&#8221; and Carl Trueman, author of &#8220;Strange New World.&#8221;
The film focuses heavily on the interviews but splices them with news headlines, newscast footage, social media content, and animation to illustrate its points.
It concludes with an emphasis on the intrinsic spiritual value of the human being as body and soul from a Catholic perspective.
During the making of the documentary, Strongin found out she was pregnant with her first baby, a boy she and her husband named Gabriel. The film ends on this uplifting note that healing is possible for the victims of the transgender movement.

'Dysconnected' Documentary Takes Powerful Look At Social Machine Behind Gender Transitions

A new documentary featuring three detransitioned women premiered last month. “The Detransition Diaries” details the harrowing stories of three young women who medically transitioned to appear male, only to change course upon realizing they made a huge mistake. 
“In The Detransition Diaries, you will meet Helena, Cat, and Grace, who all came from different backgrounds but shared similar struggles. Not wanting to live in this world as female, all began medical transition by taking testosterone and one went as far as having a double mastectomy,” the <a href="https://vimeo.com/ondemand/detransitiondiaries">film description</a> reads. 
Helena Kerschner, Grace Lidinsky-Smith, and Cat Cattinson star in this groundbreaking new film, who each tell the tale of how they believed their mental and emotional issues would be cured by transitioning.
&#8220;I was introduced to a belief system that if you don&#8217;t fit in, then that is a sign that you&#8217;re trans. If you don&#8217;t like your body then that&#8217;s a sign that you&#8217;re trans, and if you transition all these problems will be fixed,&#8221; said Kerschner.
&#8220;I was saying stuff like, &#8216;oh I think I&#8217;m going to be so much happier after I transition, like I&#8217;m really depressed now and I&#8217;m suicidal but everything is going to be so much better after I transition,&#8221; she added.
Detransition Diaries highlights how medical professionals, therapists, counselors, and even school officials played a role in their decision by “affirming” their trans identities without question and shuttling them down the path of irreversible medical transition. The women describe the ease of obtaining testosterone from gender clinics. Two said they had received the cross-sex hormone from Planned Parenthood, Kerschner after a one-hour visit, and Cattinson after only a 30-minute phone call.
Lidinsky-Smith describes the immediate regret she felt about having elective surgery to remove her breasts in order to appear more masculine. “After the surgery I had been hit with these awful feelings of having made a huge mistake. … I was looking down at my body and seeing these weeping gashes on my chest and having the most awful feeling,” said Lidinsky-Smith.
Award-winning film producer Jennifer Lahl directs the 42-minute feature film that focuses on the rising number of young girls and women deciding to transition. Lahl told The Daily Wire that after the release of her documentary “Trans Mission: What&#8217;s the Rush to Reassign Gender?” one year ago, audiences really connected with the stories and voices of the detransitioners. 
“It was then that we made the decision to make The Detransition Diaries, a documentary focused solely on the voices of the detransitioners,” said Lahl. “Given the growing number of detransitioners and the number of women most often affected by Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria (ROGD) and gender dysphoria, we narrowed our focus to women detransitioners.”
The documentary also features interviews with Kellie-Jay Keen, a British Women’s Rights Campaigner, Libby Emmons, editor-in-chief of The Post Millennial who has written extensively on the transgender debate, as well as author and consultant Natasha Chart.
A live premiere of the documentary was held on September 19 at the Vine Cinema and Alehouse in Livermore, California, which included a Q&amp;A with Cat Cattison, one of the stars of the film. The highly anticipated Detransition Diaries is now available to stream on <a href="https://vimeo.com/ondemand/detransitiondiaries">Vimeo</a>.
