Actor Eric Dane just shared an update on his ALS diagnosis, saying his health has been noticeably deteriorating and he fears his young daughters will grow up without a father.
“My left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working,” the 52-year-old actor told Diane Sawyer during an interview with ABC&#8217;s “Good Morning America” on Monday. “I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering.”
The “Grey’s Anatomy” alum was diagnosed with the degenerative disease in April after noticing symptoms including weakness in his right hand.  
“I didn’t really think anything of it at the time,” Dane told Sawyer. “I thought maybe I’d been texting too much or my hand was fatigued, but a few weeks later I noticed it got a little worse. So I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist. I went and saw a neurologist and the neurologist sent me to another neurologist and said, ‘This is way above my pay grade.&#8217;”

ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control. Over time, individuals with ALS may lose the ability to speak, move, eat, and breathe independently.
ALS has no cure, and people who receive this diagnosis usually live three to five years after symptoms start; however, some people live for decades following their diagnosis. Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking lived with ALS for more than 50 years after being diagnosed at the age of 21 until he died in 2018.
Dane also told Sawyer about the support he’s received from his wife of 14 years, Rebecca Gayheart. The actress filed for divorce in 2018 but called it off one month before Dane revealed his diagnosis. They remain friendly and share the responsibility of raising their two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13.
“We have managed to become better friends and better parents,” the actor said of Gayheart since receiving his diagnosis. “She is probably my biggest champion and my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her.”
“In my heart, I don’t feel like this is the end for me,” Dane said during the interview. “I’m fighting as much as I can. There’s so much about it that’s out of my control.”
The actor also said he’s upset about his diagnosis because of losing his own father to suicide at the age of 7. “I’m angry because my father was taken from me when I was young, and now there’s a very good chance I’m going to be taken from my girls when they’re very young,” Dane said.

Actor Eric Dane, best known for his roles on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Euphoria,” announced this week that he has ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
&#8220;I have been diagnosed with ALS,” the 52-year-old told People in an <a href="https://people.com/eric-dane-diagnosed-with-als-exclusive-11713179">interview</a>. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to [the] set of Euphoria next week,” he added. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Dane has been married to actress Rebecca Gayheart since 2004. The couple has two children, the outlet noted: Billie Beatrice, aged 15, and Georgia Geraldine, who is 13. 
Gayheart previously filed for divorce in 2018 but called it off in March 2025. “We are best of friends. We are really close. We are great coparents,” the actress <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1415961/rebecca-gayheart-addresses-eric-dane-marriage-status">told</a> E! News earlier this week. “We really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well.”
“I think it’s important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It’s just a season. It wasn’t a failure. It was a huge success,” Gayheart added without clarifying the status of their relationship right now. “We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that’s a successful relationship, and that’s how we look at it.”
The popular teen drama “Euphoria” is scheduled to begin production for season 3 next week. The Emmy Award-winning HBO series includes Dane as Cal Jacobs, patriarch of the Jacobs family. Dane became nationally known thanks to his role as Dr. Mark Sloan, nicknamed “McSteamy,” on six seasons of the ABC medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy.”

An eight-year-old boy named Liam reportedly suffering from a rare brain disorder and growth hormone deficiency was brought to tears after he opened an envelope his mother gave him and read a birthday message of hope from former President Donald Trump.
The video was <a href="https://x.com/kevin_smith45/status/1834318844778717335">posted</a> to social media on Thursday by podcaster Kevin Smith.
As Liam&#8217;s mother cautioned him to open the envelope carefully, he opened it. As he perused it, his mother asked him, “Can you read it out loud?” That brought the boy to tears, as he covered his eyes and handed the letter to his mother, who read:

Through tears, with squinched-up eyes, Liam managed, “Thank you, “ then motioned in sign language as he tearfully said, “I love you.”

Jack Osbourne, son of famed <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">British rocker</a> and Black Sabbath frontman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ozzy-osbourne">Ozzy Osbourne</a>, recently discussed a near-death experience he had during a trip to Malaysia.
The 38-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">reality TV star</a> discussed contracting a bacterial infection during a recent episode of “The Osbournes Podcast,” which he co-hosts with his father and his sister, Kelly.
&#8220;I’d gone and done some filming in a place called Bario in Malaysia … and we were doing a jungle track,&#8221; Osbourne <a href="https://www.mensjournal.com/news/jack-osbourne-contracted-leptospirosis-rat-urine">explained</a>.&#8221; &#8220;I got really sick when I got out of the jungle, but it took about two weeks incubation period and by that point I’d left the jungle.&#8221;
Osbourne said it happened in 2007 during season three of his ITV2 series, “Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie.”
The father of four conveyed the seriousness of the illness, saying he &#8220;literally was dying. This wasn’t like a fake thing.&#8221;
Osbourne recalled being transferred to several different hospitals before being sent back to London. Even there, he said the medical team couldn’t figure out why his body was “shutting down.”
&#8220;At this point, I’m like five days into my body legitimately shutting down, and I’m lying in this bed, I haven’t eaten, my kidneys and liver are like going into failure, and I&#8217;m like, ‘Uh, I’m f***ing losing it,’&#8221; he continued, saying the doctors put forth several theories including malaria and HIV, but initially could not figure out the problem.
&#8220;This guy who was the head of tropical diseases for the NHS, he’s like the number one guy, left and at 7 a.m. comes running into my room days later like, ‘I’ve got it!’&#8221; Osbourne said.

That doctor diagnosed the reality star with leptospirosis, also called Weil’s disease. The disease can cause jaundice, kidney failure, and internal bleeding.
&#8220;I got it because I’ve got leech bites on the bottom of my feet,&#8221; Osbourne explained on the podcast. &#8220;I was swimming and bathing in a river, and we were climbing on rocks and jumping into this jungle river and I stepped in a puddle on this boulder … and it had rat’s piss in it.&#8221;
The disease can occur anywhere in the world and is a risk for anyone who goes fishing and might prick their finger with a hook and then come in contact with contaminated water. Per the <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4574773/">NIH</a>, there are about one million severe cases of leptospirosis globally every year, resulting in an estimated 58,900 deaths.

The following is an edited transcript of a recent interview between <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/author/dr-houman-david-hemmati" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Houman David Hemmati</a> and Morning Wire host Georgia Howe on the rise in cases of tuberculosis and measles. Georgia Howe: Dr. Hemmati, thanks so much for coming on.
Dr. Hemmati: It&#8217;s a pleasure.
Georgia: Now, the California Department of Public Health recently <a href="https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/OPA/Pages/CAHAN/Substantial-Increase-in-Tuberculosis-in-California-Recommendations-for-California-Healthcare-Providers.aspx#:~:text=were%202%2C110%20cases.-,Since%202020%2C%20TB%20cases%20in%20California%20have%20been%20increasing%20each,patients%20with%20TB%20are%20hospitalized." target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent out an alert</a> to all doctors about a “Substantial Increase in Tuberculosis.” What did that letter say?
Dr. Hemmati: That letter, which was sent to all doctors, said that the state is experiencing a surge in tuberculosis cases. That&#8217;s number one. Number two, those tuberculosis cases are largely originating from people who have come here from outside the country. And number three, and what is particularly alarming, is that this type of tuberculosis coming into California, and presumably the rest of the United States, has about a 13% or higher death rate.
Georgia: Is there any way to screen people? What&#8217;s the normal procedure for checking people for tuberculosis?
Dr. Hemmati: That&#8217;s a great question. Anytime someone wants to come into the U.S. on a visa or green card a standard part of the process, among other medical assessments, is to perform a tuberculosis blood test and, in many cases, in addition to that, a chest x-ray to simply rule it out. However, when someone doesn&#8217;t have those — and especially if they&#8217;re coming from endemic nations, which we&#8217;re surrounded by, especially to the south — then there&#8217;s a high chance that they could be bringing it in undetected.
Georgia: Now, why is TB such a threat? Can you describe a little bit about how it progresses and why it becomes so intractable?
Dr. Hemmati: Yes. So tuberculosis is caused by a bacteria, not caused by a virus like COVID. It&#8217;s a particularly unusual type of bacteria that can reside in the lungs, sometimes asymptomatically and at other times with no symptoms at all. It can stay like that, even with no symptoms, for years or decades, and at any point basically pop up and cause a horrific infection that chews up the lungs and causes the infected person to spew large amounts of bacteria every time they cough. This is why it has a high death rate, because it literally chews through the lung tissue and leaves nothing behind other than a gaping hole. 
The problem with tuberculosis is that we only have a few medications in our arsenal to try to defeat it. And those medications, even when they do work, can take many months to years of therapy in order to kill the bacteria. The problem now is that we&#8217;re seeing a lot of multidrug resistant tuberculosis — bacteria for which none of the drugs we have available work or work well enough. This is why I think we&#8217;re suddenly seeing such high death rates — death rates we have never been seen before in this country.

Georgia: How easily is it transmitted?
Dr. Hemmati: That’s a great question. You generally have to be in relatively close proximity with a person who&#8217;s actively coughing in order to get tuberculosis, which is pretty rare. It is transmitted in the air from relatively close contacts, but it doesn&#8217;t mean less than six feet. You can be in the same room, in the same general vicinity. It&#8217;s not necessarily easy to get, but once you get it, you have it and you have it for good. Incidentally, the predominant use of the N95 mask is really for prevention of tuberculosis. Whenever we would see someone who had tuberculosis or who was presumed to have a case of tuberculosis in the hospital, we would have to wear the N95 mask simply to be around them. Without a mask like that, being in close proximity puts you at risk.
Georgia: The CDC is also investigating a measles outbreak at a migrant center in Chicago. Can you give us some insight into what’s happening there?
Dr. Hemmati: It is very likely related to immigration. And the reason why I say that is that we&#8217;ve seen measles outbreaks in migrant housing centers, including one just this last week in Chicago. So when you have people coming in the country who are not being screened for having been infected with measles, all of a sudden you are bringing in people who could be carrying this disease and could be spreading it within their community of people who have zero vaccination rates. This can pose a major public health threat.
Georgia: Should the CDC be testing people at the border as they coming across? What would be the solution for this?
Dr. Hemmati: Well, the solution we&#8217;ve already had for decades is to test anyone coming into the country for measles. Without getting that testing done and getting a lot of different vaccinations checked as well, you simply couldn&#8217;t get a green card to immigrate to the U.S. Problems occur when that process is circumvented and the system is simply overwhelmed by people who are doing a runaround, then you get people coming in who are not tested. And, at this point, with the large numbers who are streaming through our borders, it&#8217;s basically impossible to test every single person, especially since so many are considered “gotaways” and are never even processed through the system.

The actress went on to explain, “It’s hard for me to stretch because of the Ehler-Danlos.”
Ehler-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a group of inherited disorders that affects connective tissue. “Your muscles just aren’t as stable,” she added.
Blair continued, “So, the Ehler-Danlos makes me really, really, really stiff because I’ll pull my muscles too easily and then they’re like slack and sit there. So I get some injuries.”
“This is nothing that’s like horrible, scary stuff or anything. It’s just like one of those extra things that turns into a chronic thing, and you have to watch, because people think stretching’s so good for you, and I’m technically not allowed to stretch, because I’m always stretching,” Blair said.

Meanwhile, the “Legally Blonde” star said, “The MS is fine. I’m still in remission,” mentioning she’s due for an MRI.
“I still get tired, I still am stiff, like, all the time,” Blair said while she was in bed getting an IV, which she added “helps so much.”
“If I’m by myself, I do move and walk better,” she said. “I notice when I go out, it’s still very pronounced.”
The actress said she’s not complaining about her struggles, however. “When people say, ‘What do you want to do with your life?’ It still makes me sad that I just want to sleep and then get on my horse and be better,” Blair said.
“I’m a beginner every day. So it’s like, Groundhog Day — and I am doing really well [but]&#8230;I don’t know if I’ll ever have the coordination or balance or stamina that I want to.”
“Still lucky. Still grateful. Still okay,” she concluded. “But still a bummer.”

“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time and it’s been really difficult for me to face my challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through,” she continued. “Recently I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff-person syndrome which affects one in a million people.”

Though Celine has kept her battle with the disease mostly private, her sister has spoken about the singer’s health status before. In August, she said Celine is working with “top researchers,” but so far hasn’t seen much improvement.
“We can’t find any medicine that works, but having hope is important,” Claudette said at the time, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/celine-dions-sister-shares-grim-news-about-singers-health-battle">reported</a>.
“I honestly think that she mostly needs to rest,” she continued. “She always goes above and beyond, she always tries to be the best and top of her game. At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It’s important to listen to it.”

Longtime game show host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bob-barker-beloved-host-of-the-price-is-right-dead-at-99" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bob Barker</a> — who helmed CBS&#8217; &#8220;The Price Is Right&#8221; from 1972-2007 — died after a battle with Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease.
Entertainment site TMZ was first to <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2023/09/05/bob-barker-cause-of-death-alzheimers-disease-price-is-right/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> the news, citing the game show icon&#8217;s death certificate. The documents reviewed by the outlet stated that Barker&#8217;s battle with the progressive disease had lasted years — although they did not give specifics regarding when he was diagnosed.
Barker did previously speak out about the disease, teaming up with animal rights group PETA in 2013. Barker and PETA called on especially older people to adopt a vegetarian diet, saying that removing meat from the diet can help to prevent the onset of Alzheimer&#8217;s.

Barker died peacefully in his home on August 26, TMZ <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2023/08/26/bob-barker-dead-dies-99-price-is-right-game-show-host/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> — and PETA offered a send-off to their former advocate.
&#8220;Bob&#8217;s influence on the entertainment industry is indisputable, but what mattered to him most was using his voice and prominent position to protect animals. Of course, everyone is familiar with his &#8216;spay and neuter your pets&#8217; sign-off on &#8216;The Price Is Right&#8217; — a show where he refused to allow fur prizes — but he was also one of the first stars to go vegetarian, more than 30 years ago,&#8221; PETA stated.

The meaningful exchange of truly diverse ideas and perspectives has withered over recent decades. Unorthodox thinking is increasingly trashed or disregarded, even as the chattering class’s fear- and force-predicated approaches repeatedly prove inadequate to cope with the true complexities and crises of the modern world.
We need instead to foster and promote critical thinking and constructive discussion. We are making every effort to ensure that our new <a href="https://www.arcforum.com/about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC)</a>, an international coalition of politicians, business leaders, public intellectuals and cultural commentators, will help ensure that a broader range of perspectives can be heard globally.
Consider the world’s response to the COVID pandemic. A panic-stricken lockdown orthodoxy far too soon took hold, and those whose policy proposals deviated quickly were labeled “COVID deniers.” Governments that went the farthest were feted by public intellectuals and in newspaper opinion pages.
The obvious downsides to universal lockdowns were ignored by those striving to garner credit for simple-minded immediacy of response. Thus, we saw <a href="https://bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12889-021-10521-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increases of inequality</a> in income distribution and wealth, widespread <a href="https://www.imf.org/-/media/Files/Publications/WEO/2020/October/English/ch2.ashx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">loss of employment,</a> substantive <a href="https://www.imf.org/-/media/Files/Publications/WEO/2020/October/English/ch2.ashx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declines in spending,</a> and general <a href="https://www.imf.org/-/media/Files/Publications/WEO/2020/October/English/ch2.ashx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">deterioration in economic conditions</a>; serious declines in <a href="https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/issue-brief/the-implications-of-covid-19-for-mental-health-and-substance-use/#:~:text=Symptoms%20of%20anxiety%20and%20depression,compared%20to%20their%20male%20peers." target="_blank" rel="noopener">mental health</a> and well-being, delayed and diminished access to <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8834942/#:~:text=Reduction%20in%20healthcare%20claims%20in,%25)%20compared%20to%20previous%20years." target="_blank" rel="noopener">healthcare</a>, and record high levels of <a href="https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2022/06/shadow-pandemic-of-domestic-violence/#:~:text=Violence%20against%20women%20increased%20to,Eastern%20Europe%2C%20and%20the%20Balkans." target="_blank" rel="noopener">domestic violence</a>. The education of children was particularly affected: <a href="https://www.worldbank.org/en/topic/education/publication/the-state-of-the-global-education-crisis-a-path-to-recovery?cq_ck=1638565414093" target="_blank" rel="noopener">School closures</a> on average robbed children of more than 7 months of education. The huge impact on kids’ knowledge could end up costing $17 trillion in lifetime earnings according to research by the World Bank, UNESCO, and UNICEF. Poor children, girls, and children with disabilities suffered the largest losses.

We need to have a serious conversation about our manner of response before the next crisis — pandemic or otherwise — to ensure that the cure is not much worse than the disease. Consider the alarmist treatment of climate change. Campaigners and news organizations play up fear, in the form of floods, storms, and droughts, while neglecting to mention that reductions in poverty and increases in resiliency mean that climate-related disasters kill ever fewer people: Over the past century, <a href="https://twitter.com/BjornLomborg/status/1609568091846967306" target="_blank" rel="noopener">deaths have dropped 97%</a>. Heatwaves capture the headlines. Globally, however, cold kills <a href="https://unherd.com/thepost/bjorn-lomborg-how-global-warming-will-save-lives/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">nine times more people</a>. The higher temperatures arguably characterizing this century have resulted in <a href="https://unherd.com/thepost/bjorn-lomborg-how-global-warming-will-save-lives/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">166,000 fewer temperature-related deaths</a> overall.
Fearmongering and the suppression of truly inconvenient truths are pushing us dangerously toward the wrong solutions: Politicians and pundits call en masse for net-zero policies that will cost <a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/sustainability/our-insights/the-economic-transformation-what-would-change-in-the-net-zero-transition" target="_blank" rel="noopener">far beyond $100 trillion</a>, while producing benefits <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0040162520304157" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a fraction as large</a>. We need to be able to have an honest discussion of costs and benefits — a true reckoning with the facts to find the best solutions.
We also need to conduct a more mature conversation about how to better help the 4 billion people who live in the poorer half of the world. The UN promises everything imaginable in the form of its <a href="https://sdgs.un.org/goals" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sustainable Development Goals</a> (SDGs): The end to extreme poverty, hunger, and disease; reduction of inequality and corruption; cessation of war; amelioration of climate change; universalization of education — even ease of access to urban parks. But a plan that makes all problems the same compelling crisis without prioritization is no plan at all, merely a recipe for the appearance of action and virtue. This year, 2023, sits at the midpoint between the start of the goals in 2016, and their hypothetical attainment in 2030. We are now at halftime, but nowhere near close to halfway there. Even the UN secretary-general admits that the goals are “<a href="https://news.un.org/en/story/2023/02/1133452" target="_blank" rel="noopener">far off track</a>”.
We must zero in on the most efficient solutions first. More than 100 economists and several Nobel laureates working with the Copenhagen Consensus think tank have identified <a href="https://copenhagenconsensus.com/halftime" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the most promising and effective SDG targets</a>. We could, for example, virtually eliminate tuberculosis, which needlessly still kills more than a million people each year, for an additional $6.2 billion a year. We could invest $5.5 billion more in agricultural R&amp;D in low-income countries to increase crop yields, help farmers produce more and consumers pay less, reducing the number of hungry people by more than a hundred million per year.

There are a dozen areas where much could be done for comparatively little money. We could efficiently and quickly boost learning in schools — vital after COVID lockdowns — save mothers’ and newborns’ lives, tackle malaria, make government procurement much more efficient, improve nutrition, increase land tenure security, turbo-charge the effects of trade, advance skilled migration, and increase child immunization rates. These <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/1940003482/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">12 sensible and implementable policies</a> could save more than 4 million lives per year, and generate economic benefits worth over a trillion dollars (primarily in poorer countries) for an outlay of $35 billion a year for the next seven years.
The new Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) forum can help us envision the future in a positive manner, emphasizing the ability of the properly competing and cooperating people of the world to solve whatever problems confront us, as we have so often and often so effectively done in the past. ARC thinkers are gathering from around the world to do precisely that. 
Enough panicked fearmongering. 
We can focus on what is truly important and attainable, initiate and reward a more nuanced global discussion regarding the problems that will always beset us, and look forward confidently to a world more abundant, more laden with opportunity, more sustainable, and more hopeful.

A little-known illness caused by a tick bite gives victims a serious allergy to red meat and affected an estimated 110,000 people between 2010 and 2022, according to a <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2023/p0727-emerging-tick-bites.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released Thursday. 
The illness, called alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), comes from the bite of a Lone Star tick, which can be <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/tick-species/sls-20147911?s=7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> mostly in the South as well as many Eastern and Midwest states. AGS causes serious allergic reactions to red meat such as pork, beef, rabbit, lamb, venison, and even mammal products like milk. 
“Alpha-gal syndrome is an important emerging public health problem, with potentially severe health impacts that can last a lifetime for some patients,” said Dr. Ann Carpenter, an epidemiologist and lead author of one of the papers released Thursday on AGS. “It’s critical for clinicians to be aware of AGS so they can properly evaluate, diagnose, and manage their patients and also educate them on tick-bite prevention to protect patients from developing this allergic condition.”
Many doctors and health care providers are still unfamiliar with AGS, according to the CDC, which added that the allergic reactions caused by the tick bite can be “potentially life-threatening.” 
One study asked 1,500 family/general practitioners, internists, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants across the U.S. about AGS and found that nearly half of them had never heard of it and around one-third of respondents said they were “‘not too confident’ in their ability to diagnose or manage patients with AGS,” the CDC said. The CDC estimated that the number of people who might be affected by AGS could be as high as 450,000. 
“The burden of alpha-gal syndrome in the United States could be substantial given the large percentage of cases suspected to be going undiagnosed due to non-specific and inconsistent symptoms, challenges seeking healthcare, and lack of clinician awareness,” said Dr. Johanna Salzer, who authored both papers on AGS released by the CDC.

The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-tick-bite-that-makes-you-vegan-eating-in-a-restaurant-was-out-of-the-question" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> last year on how people with AGS deal with the symptoms. One woman described the struggles of eating out at a restaurant, noting that even a veggie burger prepared on the same grill with meat patties is problematic. Another person said that even breathing in fumes from red meat causes a reaction.
Symptoms of AGS include “hives or itchy rash; nausea or vomiting; heartburn or indigestion; diarrhea; cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; drop in blood pressure; swelling of the lips, throat, tongue, or eye lids; dizziness or faintness; or severe stomach pain,” according to the CDC. There is currently no known cure for the illness, and the CDC says that “preventing tick bites” is the most important action one can take to “reduce your chances of developing AGS.”
