Cher, Dick Van Dyke and other celebrities were forced to evacuate their homes on Tuesday after a wind-swept fire engulfed portions of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Southern California</a> community of Malibu.
In a post on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/dickvandykefans/posts/pfbid02KK77c9GqW2dRCCrBwtfks7a7EfjF5bzF5HiESF821K9GnsfCcDCCZ7Yoo9vTzZvol">Facebook</a>, the 98-year-old legendary actor said that he and his wife Arlene had safely evacuated their homes as the Franklin fire blazed through the area.
“Arlene and I have safely evacuated with our animals except for Bobo [their cat] escaped as we were leaving,” the famed actor, who turns 99 on December 13, wrote.

“We’re praying he’ll be OK and that our community in Serra Retreat will survive these terrible fires,” he added.
A publicist for Cher, Liz Rosenberg, told the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/wildfire-malibu-evacuation-pepperdine-university-dick-van-dyke-c074d51281ca12ca6e98d91e6e78da71">Associated Press</a> that the singer/actress had left her home as ordered and was staying in a hotel.
Barbara Streisand also has a home in the area and a spokesperson for her <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/10/us/malibu-fire-van-dyke-cher-streisand.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times she didn’t have to evacuate yet.
The brush fire started around 11 p.m. on Monday night and thanks to the strong Santa Ana winds, the fire grew to six square miles and was just 7% contained on Tuesday, the AP noted.

“The deep and rugged terrain, along with the strong winds and low humidity, continue to pose challenges for firefighters,” the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire, said in an incident update.
However, officials noted that a change in the weather on Wednesday could help them significantly.
“We’re far better off this morning than we were in the last 30-plus hours,” Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart said at a Wednesday news conference.
Los Angeles County Fire Department Chief Anthony C. Marrone said that more than 7,500 structures, mostly homes, were threatened, with more than ten thousand people under evacuation orders.
Much of the fire has not only consumed the area with celebrities&#8217; mansions, but also affected Pepperdine University.
A spokesperson for the university, Michael Friel, said Wednesday morning, “You literally could see the flames from the top of the hill from campus.&#8221;
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The 98-year-old Hollywood legend won an award for outstanding variety special at the event for his 2023 birthday special, “Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic.”
He answered questions from reporters after winning the award, including one about how he hopes to be remembered. &#8220;For laughter,&#8221; Van Dyke said in reply, per <a href="https://www.tvinsider.com/1150985/dick-van-dyke-talks-legacy-2024-creative-arts-emmys/">TV Insider</a>. &#8220;I hope for making people laugh for 75 years.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;ve been in the business 75 years. I can&#8217;t believe that I&#8217;m still here and performing,&#8221; he added. The “Mary Poppins” star then took a dramatic pause and looked around the room, saying with a smile, &#8220;I&#8217;m looking for work if anybody has.&#8221;

Later, Van Dyke was asked to give advice to the up-and-comers. “You have to stick with it,” he said. “You&#8217;re gonna go through hard times and a lot of auditions &#8230; but you have to stay with it. Be patient if you&#8217;ve got the confidence in yourself, and it&#8217;s very important to believe that you can do it.&#8221;
During his speech, Van Dyke thanked the crowd and had a special word of thanks for his wife and producer of the birthday special, Arlene Silver. &#8220;Thank you! That reception, I cannot tell you what it means,” he said. 
&#8220;The young lady who got this award, you may think of the word nepotism and I would understand it, but this lady got the job all by herself as producer of the Dick Van Dyke special because she knows me inside and out, and knows how I work, and don&#8217;t take no sass from anybody,” Van Dyke went on.
Van Dyke won multiple accolades over the course of his decades-long career including several Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and a Tony Award. He’s best known for classic television and films including “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” “Dick Tracy,” “Night at the Museum,” and many more. 
“I’m the oldest nominee in history. I can’t believe it,” he told the Daytime Emmys crowd in June, per <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/awards/dick-van-dyke-daytime-emmys-winner-days-of-our-lives-1236029346/">Variety</a>. “I was playing old men all my life. If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!”

Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke crashed his car a week ago in Malibu, California, and only sustained &#8220;minor injuries.&#8221;
Law enforcement sources told <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2023/03/22/dick-van-dyke-car-crash-malibu/">TMZ</a> the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/dick-van-dyke">97-year-old actor</a> was involved in a single-vehicle accident last Wednesday, crashing a 2018 Lexus LS 500 into a gate.
Sources told the outlet the &#8220;Mary Poppins&#8221; star told police that his car had slid on the rain-soaked streets and he lost control of his vehicle.
The famed Disney star was reportedly treated on the scene for cuts on his nose and mouth and might have even sustained a concussion. But he was not taken to a hospital, as he was not interested in going, the outlet noted.

Sources told TMZ that someone picked up the screen legend at the scene of the accident and drove him home.
A spokesperson for the Malibu Police Department told <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/22/entertainment/dick-van-dyke-scli-intl/index.html?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_term=link&amp;utm_content=2023-03-22T12%3A37%3A08&amp;utm_source=twCNN">CNN</a> that Van Dyke sustained &#8220;minor injuries.&#8221;
The accident comes weeks after the actor credited his 51-year-old wife, make-up artist Arlene Silver, with helping him keep his youthfulness, <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11889217/Dick-Van-Dyke-97-smashed-gate-Malibu-Lexus-skidded-rain.html?ito=social-twitter_mailonline">Daily Mail</a> noted.
The couple tied the knot in 2012, and he previously spoke about how they stay in shape by dancing and singing together.

Van Dyke previously told <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/dick-van-dyke-says-secret-224457506.html">The Independent</a> that the secret to feeling young is in his &#8220;genes&#8221; and having a &#8220;beautiful young wife half my age to take care of me.&#8221;
His career in Hollywood goes back more than six decades, landing his first big role in television on &#8220;The Dick Van Dyke Show,&#8221; which aired on CBS from 1961 to 1966. He scored the spot after winning a Tony award for his role in the musical, &#8220;Bye-Bye Birdie.&#8221;
In 1964 he landed what was perhaps his most notable role as Bert in Disney&#8217;s musical film, &#8220;Mary Poppins.&#8221; After appearing in many other projects on the big and small screens, he was cast in the sequel &#8220;Mary Poppins Returns&#8221; in 2018.
Van Dyke&#8217;s last screen credit is for a TV series called &#8220;Kidding&#8221; in 2020. He is currently listed as taking part in a project called &#8220;Capture the Flag,&#8221; currently in pre-production, according to <a href="https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001813/">IMDb</a>.

Fox had advertised the season-opener as &#8220;<a href="https://ew.com/tv/the-masked-singer-season-9-everything-we-know/">the most legendary, decorated and beloved unmasking in history</a>&#8221; — and if judge Nicole Scherzinger&#8217;s response was any indication, the advertising had been spot on: she burst into tears.

The &#8220;Mary Poppins&#8221; star spoke to <a href="https://ew.com/tv/the-masked-singer-gnome-revealed-dick-van-dyke/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Entertainment Weekly</a> about his appearance on the show, admitting that he had never even seen an episode prior to being asked to do it himself — but that once he had seen how the show worked, he thought it looked like fun.
&#8220;I was so positive that nobody would ever guess it was me, that they would have somebody 97 years old on there. And the experience was weird, because they have to keep it a secret from the crew. So I walked around with my head covered with people leading me. They&#8217;ve got a nice crew, but I never got to meet any of them!&#8221; he said.
Calling the show &#8220;the weirdest thing I&#8217;ve ever done,&#8221; Van Dyke went on to describe the gnome costume, saying that he could only see out of two very small holes in the headpiece: &#8220;It&#8217;s a good thing I&#8217;m not claustrophobic.&#8221;
Once he got on stage and sang, however, people began to guess who might be behind the mask — and Van Dyke wasn&#8217;t sure about their guesses. Among them: singer Tony Bennett, actor Dustin Hoffman, and actor Robert De Niro.
&#8220;Wait a minute, those guys can&#8217;t sing,&#8221; Van Dyke laughed, adding, &#8220;Well, I felt pretty good about Tony Bennett. I wasn&#8217;t crazy about any of the other ones. But I knew that they couldn&#8217;t guess who I was. I don&#8217;t think they expected anybody from my generation to be on that show. So I knew I was gonna fool them. They were so surprised. I stepped out and everybody&#8217;s mouths dropped open. I think some people thought I was dead.&#8221;
Once the mask came off, however, Scherzinger had the <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/02/16/dick-van-dyke-97-performs-revealed-as-gnome-on-the-masked-singer/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">strongest reaction</a>: she cried. &#8220;I love you so much, we love you, the whole world loves you so much. You look so gorgeous, you look so handsome,&#8221; she said, adding, &#8220;You&#8217;re our childhood!&#8221;

Dick Van Dyke is a notoriously optimistic person. However, he was concerned about what his many fans would think of his new wife, who happens to be decades younger than he is.
In an <a href="https://www.closerweekly.com/posts/dick-van-dyke-wife-arlene-silver-recall-meeting-at-2007-sag-awards/">interview</a> with Closer magazine, the “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” star admitted to being skeptical that anyone would accept Arlene Silver. “I thought there would be an outcry about a gold digger marrying an old man, but no one ever took that attitude,” the actor, who has a fortune estimated at $50 million, told the publication.
Van Dyke, 96, met his current spouse in 2007 at the Screen Actors Guild Awards when he was 81 and she was 35. Silver was there working as a makeup artist and said she was intrigued from the very beginning. 
“He said, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ The first thing I asked him was, ‘Weren’t you in ‘Mary Poppins’? We got along immediately as friends, so it didn’t feel like he was so much older than me,” she said during the same interview.
The pair graduated from friendship to romance before tying the knot in February 2012. To hear them tell it, they’re still just as enamored with each other now as they were then, and age is barely a concern.
“We share an attitude,” Van Dyke said of Silver. “She can go with the flow. She loves to sing and dance, which we do almost every day. She’s just delightful.”
Silver agreed, saying, “He is the most perfect human being. I’ve never met anyone so happy, so genuine, so amazing. He’s just like a happy pill.”
The “Mary Poppins” alum credits his longevity with staying in motion even now. Van Dyke said he didn’t get into dancing until later in life, but has developed his moves since then and likes to participate in physical activity to stay limber.
“I have arthritis and all those things, but I keep moving,” he explained. “I didn’t discover dancing and singing until I was in my 30s. It just happened out of nowhere. I regret that I didn’t train a little or take some vocal coaching or something. But I just enjoyed what I had and had fun with it.”
Plus, Van Dyke credits his attitude with being a huge factor in staying happy and healthy into old age. 
“It’s more in my nature to be optimistic, I think,” he <a href="https://www.npr.org/2015/10/11/447591736/dance-sing-just-keep-moving-dick-van-dyke-tells-seniors">told</a> NPR in 2015. “I’m one of those people who get up on the right side of the bed in the morning. I get up and have a cup of coffee and go to the gym because I talk myself out of it because I will as anybody will.”
Van Dyke was married once before to Margie Willett for 36 years and had four children with her. They divorced in 1984. He was also in a long-term relationship with actress Michelle Triola for more than 30 years until her death in 2009.

96-Year-Old Dick Van Dyke Feared Fans Would Call His 50-Year-Old Wife A ‘Gold Digger’

Mary Tyler Moore, who first achieved legendary television status on The Dick Van Dyke Show as his wife Laura, then skyrocketed to even greater heights with her iconic protagonist on the eponymous The Mary Tyler Moore Show, then rose to even more dizzying heights as the Oscar-nominated wife in Ordinary People, has died at 80.
Moore&#8217;s representative told PEOPLE: “Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine. A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”
Moore had suffered from A Type 1 diabetes for decades; she was diagnosed at the age of 33. In 2009 she told PEOPLE, “I thought I’d have to recline on a chaise the rest of my life . . . there have been challenges, but I’ve triumphed.” In May 2011 she underwent elective surgery to remove a benign tumor of the lining tissue of the brain. She told <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/27/arts/television/mary-tyler-moore-to-receive-screen-actors-guild-award.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The New York Times</a> in early 2012, “I do have problems with my eyes, one eye in particular, and if I fall, I generally break a bone.&#8221;
Moore was an outspoken advocate for animal rights and juvenile diabetes research. In the 1970&#8217;s. she and her husband at the time, Grant Tinker helped create Rhoda, The Bob Newhart Show, Lou Grant and Hill Street Blues.

Moore was only 17 when she married a 27-year-old food broker named Richard Meeker; then bore a son 11 months later; divorcing Meeker when Richie was six. She married Tinker six months later, who had four children of his own.
As PEOPLE noted: &#8220;The heavy workload of both parents left little time for their children. &#8216;I demanded a lot of Richie,&#8217; Moore later admitted. &#8216;I was responsible for a lot of alienation.&#8217; Their relationship grew strained as Richie grew up and rebelled, and for a long period mother and son were estranged. They did reconcile, and Richie even began landing some small acting roles on TV. But in a 1980 accident, Richie died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 24. &#8216;I have never seen Mary so distraught,&#8217; MTM colleague Gavin MacLeod told PEOPLE.&#8221;
Moore received over 6,000 letters of condolence; she answered them all by hand. She wrote of her battles with alcoholism in her 1995 memoir After All,and discussed her diabetes in 2009’s Growing Up Again: Life, Loves, and Oh Yeah, Diabetes.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Dr. Robert Levine.

Woodrow Wilson said in 1913 the United States government is being run by an invisible force which &#8212; insurance companies and banks &#8212; that was in 1913. And the stranglehold has just caught on now, I don&#8217; t think we can get out of it. Bernie I don&#8217;t think can be elected, but thank God he is at least telling us &#8212; he is the man saying that the emperor has no clothes.&#8221;
Van Dyke continued that calling Sanders a socialist was a problem, insisting, &#8220;Labels are so incendiary. They use &#8216;communist&#8217; and &#8216;socialist&#8217; &#8212; the one percent that have the money are calling him a &#8216;socialist.&#8217; And we&#8217;re a fairly socialist government already. I&#8217;m hoping somebody listens to him. We need it. &#8220;
A week and a half before his interview with Smiley, Van Dyke was interviewed by Lawrence O&#8217;Donnell on MSNBC. Van Dyke intoned his mantra again: &#8220;I thought Bernie sounded an alarm that&#8217;s been around &#8212; a problem that&#8217;s been around for about 100 years. He warned us about becoming an oligarchy, and I&#8217;m afraid he&#8217;s perhaps too late.&#8221;
