Former President George W. Bush on Tuesday marked the passing of Dick Cheney, saying in a statement that the former vice president was “among the finest public servants of his generation.”
Cheney served under Bush for eight years, from 2001 to 2009, as vice president of the United States. Bush described his Oval Office partner as “a calm and steady presence in the White House amid great national challenges.”
Among the major tests of Bush’s tenure, arguably the most challenging was the 9/11 terror attack on the Twin Towers in New York City and launching the War on Terror in its aftermath.
“I counted on him for his honest, forthright counsel, and he never failed to give his best. He held to his convictions and prioritized the freedom and security of the American people. For those two terms in office and throughout his remarkable career, Dick Cheney’s service always reflected credit on the country he loved,” said Bush.
Before serving as Bush’s vice president, Cheney served in the administration of Bush’s father, George H.W. Bush, as Secretary of Defense.
Bush also spoke of his closeness to Cheney’s family, adding that &#8220;Laura and I have shared our deepest sympathies with Vice President Cheney’s wife Lynne and their daughters and granddaughters of whom he was so deeply proud.”

Dick Cheney, who served two terms as vice president under former President George W. Bush, died at his home on Monday night, his family said. He was 84.
Cheney died due to complications from pneumonia and cardiovascular disease. The former vice president struggled with heart disease for decades and underwent a heart transplant in 2012. He died surrounded by his family.
Cheney had a decisive role in the White House, influencing foreign policy in the Bush administration at a level typically not seen among vice presidents. He also served as Secretary of Defense under former President George H.W. Bush.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lynne, and his daughters, Liz and Mary.
Cheney&#8217;s career in politics spanned decades. He served in the Nixon administration and eventually made his way up to White House Chief of Staff under former President Gerald Ford. In 1978, he was elected to Congress, serving Wyoming&#8217;s lone district until 1989, when he was nominated by George H.W. Bush to become Secretary of Defense. As Defense Secretary, Cheney directed the U.S. invasion of Panama and Operation Desert Storm, which liberated Kuwait from Iraqi forces.
In 2000, Cheney joined George W. Bush on the Republican ticket in a controversial presidential election that reached the Supreme Court, before Bush and Cheney were ultimately declared the winners over Democrat Al Gore and his running mate, Joe Lieberman.
As vice president, Cheney played an instrumental role in pushing for the United States to declare a &#8220;war on terror&#8221; and invade Iraq following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. As American public perception turned against the Iraq War, Cheney held that it was the correct decision to send troops into Iraq in 2003 and topple the government of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
&#8220;It was the right thing to do then. I believed in it then, and I believe it now,&#8221; Cheney <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv-HnTQVXoQ">said</a> during a CNN interview in  2015. &#8220;No apologies.&#8221;
Cheney was not shy about his criticism of the administrations that followed his time in the White House, blasting former President Barack Obama and later becoming a staunch anti-Trump voice. In 2015, Cheney described Obama as &#8220;a president whose policies are doing lasting damage to the United States of America.&#8221;
In recent years, Cheney feuded with President Donald Trump as his daughter, former Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney, became the face of anti-Trump Republicans. In 2022, Cheney appeared in an ad for his daughter, who was running in a primary against Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman.
&#8220;In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,&#8221; Cheney said in the ad. “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters.”
Cheney&#8217;s anti-Trump positions continued into the 2024 election, when he announced last September that he would vote for then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

Following his heart transplant in 2012, Cheney called the surgery &#8220;the kind of gift that&#8217;s unbelievable,&#8221; adding, &#8220;You wake up every morning with a smile on your face because you&#8217;ve got a new day you never expected to have.&#8221;

Kennedy Jr.
&#8220;I think what it tells us is that there&#8217;s a lot of ferment in American politics. But, in the end, endorsements are not going to make the difference in this race. What&#8217;s going to make the difference is their records. This is a very unusual presidential election,&#8221; Cotton said. &#8220;We have a former president running for office, first time in more than 100 years. People remember that, when Donald Trump was in office, prices were low, wages were high, we had peace and stability around the world.&#8221;
Cotton added, &#8220;Kamala Harris, as vice president, has brought us record high inflation. We have a wide-open southern border and we have war everywhere you turn around in the world. So, I know that endorsements sometimes make news, but most Americans are making their decisions based on the records of these two candidates. People remember that we had good times with Donald Trump. Kamala Harris and Joe Biden have brought us very bad times.&#8221;
In responding to Cotton, Bash said, &#8220;I hear you about endorsements. We don&#8217;t really know the impact that they have all the time. RFK Jr. hasn&#8217;t had — been in an elected office. Dick Cheney was vice president of the United States for eight years. He was a senior member of the House. He was chief of staff to Gerald Ford. He worked tirelessly to advance Republican policies for a long time. You don&#8217;t think his endorsement of a Democrat with that kind of pedigree is going to make a difference with the swing voters?&#8221;
&#8220;No, Dana, I really don&#8217;t —,&#8221; Cotton said.
&#8220;Or Never-Trump voters who weren&#8217;t sure about Harris?&#8221; Bash asked.

Dowd, who served as a top advisor for former President George W. &#8220;If he was speaking the message he spoke in the Gospels today about treating everybody with dignity — Jesus Christ hung around with prostitutes and tax collectors,&#8221; Dowd continued. &#8220;He was nailed to a cross because he spoke on behalf of the most marginalized people in the Middle East.&#8221;

Dowd announced a bid for the 2022 Lieutenant Governor&#8217;s race in Texas, but <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2021/12/07/matthew-dowd-texas-lieutenant-governor/">withdrew from contention</a> in the Democratic primary six days before the final filing deadline. He explained in a statement that he was making an exit in order to clear the way for a &#8220;more diverse&#8221; candidate to take on the race.
&#8220;When I first announced, the only other candidate was a white male Christian,&#8221; Dowd said. &#8220;A diverse field is now emerging in the Democratic primary for this office. I do not want to be the one who stands in the way of the greater diversity we need in politics.&#8221;
State Rep. Michelle Beckley (D), who announced her own bid for LG, voiced her thanks to Dowd: &#8220;Women have been underrepresented in politics for too long. The Democratic Party is a diverse party and a party that supports the goals and aspirations of women, and in stepping back, Dowd is showing his respect for voters.&#8221;
Mike Collier, the other white Christian man in the Lieutenant Governor&#8217;s race, did not withdraw from the race, but said he supported Dowd&#8217;s decision. &#8220;I’m thankful for all that Matthew Dowd has done to demonstrate to the nation the importance of defeating Dan Patrick. With so much on the line, Matthew and I join millions of Texans in committing to do all we can to defeat Dan Patrick in 2022,&#8221; he said.

Actor Christian Bale claimed this week that former Vice President Dick Cheney sent him an insulting message for how he portrayed Cheney in the Oscar-nominated movie &#8220;Vice&#8221; — an allegation that a source has now denied.
Speaking with Yahoo! Entertainment, Bale claimed that a woman associated with his son&#8217;s school met with Cheney at a party and asked that a blunt message be delivered to the actor.
&#8220;Strangely enough it was through my son&#8217;s school,&#8221; <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/christian-bale-dick-cheney-vice-reaction-message-220039507.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bale said</a>. &#8220;One of the moms was at a party that [Cheney] was at, and she said, &#8216;Oh, I&#8217;m going to be seeing Christian tomorrow, you have anything to say to him?&#8217; And he said, &#8216;Tell him he&#8217;s a d***.'&#8221;
Bale originally thought Cheney was doing a pun on his own name, but that was not the case, according to the woman that delivered the message.
&#8220;I went, &#8216;Oh, at least he’s got a sense of humor,'&#8221; Bale said. &#8220;And she said, &#8216;No, there was no humor to it whatsoever.'&#8221;
A source close to Dick Cheney told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/christian-bale-dick-cheney-insulting-message-vice-portrayal">Fox News</a> that no such an encounter ever took place.
&#8220;Dick Cheney never has and never would send a message to Bale. Totally untrue,&#8221; the source said.
If Cheney did indeed deliver such a message to Christian Bale, the former vice president would not exactly be out of line, considering that the actor literally <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/golden-globes-christian-bale-wins-best-actor-thanks-satan-dick-cheney-inspiration-1173404">compared him to Satan</a> when accepting the award for Best Actor at the Golden Globes.
&#8220;And for all the competition, I will be cornering the market on charisma-free a**holes,&#8221; Bale said to the tune of audience laughter. &#8220;What do you think, Mitch McConnell next? That could be good, couldn’t it? Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration on how to play this role.&#8221;

Cheney has aggressively countered Omar&#8217;s anti-Semitic rhetoric before; in March Cheney gave a statement to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/node/44393/edit?destination=admin/content/articles%3Ftitle%3DCheney%26author%3DAll%26publishing_status%3DAll%26field_article_options_value%3DAll%26status%3DAll">The Daily Wire</a> in which she ripped House Democrats over their lame resolution condemning hate following Omar&#8217;s anti-Semitic rhetoric. Cheney stated, &#8220;Today&#8217;s resolution vote was a sham put forward by Democrats to avoid condemning one of their own and denouncing vile anti-Semitism. While I stand whole heartedly against discrimination outlined in this resolution, the language before the House today did not address the issue that is front and center. Rep. Omar&#8217;s comments were wrong and she has proven multiple times that she embodies a vile, hate-filled, anti-Semitic, anti-Israel bigotry. She deserves to be rebuked, by name, and removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee so that there is no mistake about the values and priorities that the House stands for.&#8221;
Cheney continued, &#8220;For Democratic leadership to kowtow to their radical members and refuse to offer legislative language that criticizes Rep. Omar&#8217;s statements in the strongest possible manner confirms what we already knew: that their party is controlled by far-left extremists who can&#8217;t even muster the courage to stand up to blatant anti-Semitism. Joe Biden might be the front-runner among Democratic presidential candidates, but that doesn&#8217;t mean he&#8217;s widely beloved by the party&#8217;s progressive base. A newly resurfaced video of Biden admitting that he genuinely likes former Vice President Dick Cheney, describing him as &#8220;a decent man,&#8221; has triggered Biden&#8217;s left-wing critics.
In a tweet noted by <a href="http://thedc.com/2019/05/02/joe-biden-dick-cheney-video/">The Daily Caller</a>, the Young Turks&#8217; Emma Vigeland posted a video from 2015 of Biden&#8217;s positive comments about the man Democrats have portrayed as the Machiavellian architect of George W. Bush&#8217;s &#8220;warmongering&#8221; regime.
&#8220;First of all, I actually like Dick Cheney, for real,&#8221; said Biden. &#8220;I get on with him. I think he&#8217;s a decent man.&#8221;
Vigeland notes that Biden goes on to praise Cheney, &#8220;without irony,&#8221; as &#8220;extremely helpful&#8221; about the &#8220;legal parameters&#8221; of the office he assumed in 2009.

Last week, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-08/trump-said-to-seek-huge-premium-from-allies-hosting-u-s-troops">Bloomberg</a> reported that the Trump administration is drawing up demands for Germany and Japan &#8212; and eventually other countries &#8212; to pay for the costs of hosting U.S. troops in their countries, plus an additional 50% or more.
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), who sits on the Armed Services Committee and is the head of the House Republican Conference, criticized the Trump administration&#8217;s move, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-10/cheney-blasts-trump-desire-that-allies-pay-more-for-u-s-troops">calling it </a>&#8220;absolutely devastating.&#8221;
&#8220;We benefit tremendously&#8221; by stationing soldiers in South Korea, Japan, Germany and other countries, Cheney <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/video/full-cheney-democratic-leaders-are-protecting-ilhan-omar-1455313475820?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_mtp">said</a> on NBC&#8217;s &#8220;<a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/">Meet the Press</a>&#8221; on Sunday. &#8220;The notion that we are now going to somehow charge them &#8216;cost plus 50&#8217; is really &#8212; it&#8217;s wrongheaded, and it would be devastating to the security of the nation and our allies.&#8221;
Cheney added that she would oppose the move in Congress. 
&#8220;It&#8217;s going to be very important for us to make sure that people understand the danger that that will do to our relationships and to our fundamental security,&#8221; Cheney said. 
&#8220;We should not look at this as though somehow we need to charge them rent or for the privilege of having our forces there, because that does us a huge benefit as well,&#8221; she added.
The &#8220;Cost Plus 50&#8221; formula could result in some countries paying five or six times more than they currently pay.
Last week, South Korea agreed to pay 8.2% more to host the 28,000 U.S. troops currently stationed in the country, the <a href="https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/south-korea-signs-deal-to-pay-8-more-to-host-us-troops">Strait Times</a> reports. The total cost rose from $920 in 2018 to 1.04 trillion in 2019. The talks reportedly almost derailed when Trump overruled his negotiators by sending a note to National Security Advisor John Bolton saying, &#8220;We want cost plus 50.&#8221;
Since Trump announced he was running for president, he has consistently drawn attention to the amount the U.S. pays for security &#8212; especially in NATO. As recently as January, Trump once again reiterated his stance on the issue.

Cheney&#8217;s father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, also criticized the Trump administration&#8217;s approach to foreign policy and national security last weekend. <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/12/politics/dick-cheney-mike-pence-donald-trump-foreign-policy/index.html">CNN reported</a> that Dick Cheney attended an off-the-record event hosted by the American Enterprise Institute with Vice President Mike Pence that turned tense.

Trump Proposes To Have Allies Pay For U.S. Military Presence Plus 50%, Report Says

Adam McKay&#8217;s Vice ­&#8212; the Oscar nominated bio-pic about Vice President Dick Cheney &#8212; is a remarkably revealing film. In the same way you can watch Hallmark movies to better understand some women&#8217;s daydreams, you can watch Vice to get a gander at the absurd, small-minded and hate-filled imaginings of leftists.
To say the movie&#8217;s political views are simplistic is to insult simplism. Cheney is a conniving moral monster who bombs nations for profit. His president, George W. Bush, is an idiot, whom Cheney leads by the nose. Democrats are good. They put solar panels on the White House roof to save the planet! Republicans are bad. They do mean things for mean reasons because they are mean.
It&#8217;s a child&#8217;s view of the world, full of tendentious factual distortions and lies. But then director McKay is a Socialist, so he is a child in effect, or at least he knows what a child knows about economics, human nature and history &#8212; namely nothing.
What is so revealing about the film though is that it&#8217;s about Bush. Not Donald Trump. Bush. It&#8217;s a reminder that the hatred and rage, the wild charges of racism, and the madcap conspiracy theories with which the left has disgraced itself during the Trump administration are not anomalous, not directed at the outsized Trump specifically. This is just how the left thinks about the rest of us in every administration all the time. Republicans are either stupid like Eisenhower, Reagan and W, or they are evil like Nixon and Cheney, or they are both stupid and evil like Donald Trump.
And it&#8217;s not just the politicians either. This is how the left sees you too. Stupid, evil or both.
The fact that this silly film has been nominated for a best picture Oscar is a message from Harvey-Weinstein-World to half of America. The message is two words long. The second word is you.
If Vice is how leftists imagine life, it&#8217;s no wonder they have to spend so much time and energy preventing their childishly black-and-white viewpoint from being debunked by the complicated truth.
They have to take pains to insure that every movie, every television show, every comedy act, every news program, every college course reflects their ideas and only their ideas. They have to invent and propound primitive racist theories like Intersectionalism that give them license to categorize all disagreements as hateful. And if even that&#8217;s not enough, they have to hire friends to commit hate crimes against them so the world seems to look the way they think it looks.
They so surround themselves with people who agree with them, so immerse themselves in their imaginary narratives, they don&#8217;t even know they&#8217;re demonizing their opponents, they just think (as one leftist says in Vice) they&#8217;re relating the simple facts.
When actor Jussie Smollett reported the hate crime that police now say was an elaborate hoax, CNN&#8217;s Brooke Baldwin mourned, &#8220;This is America in 2019.&#8221; When media race scammer Nathan Philips started a scene with some innocent Trump-supporting Catholic school kids, CNN&#8217;s Ana Navarro falsely described the incident as, &#8220;Native-American elder taunted by racist MAGA-hat wearing teens&#8230;&#8221;
These people don&#8217;t even know that their brains are suffocating in the plastic bag of their own narrative. Who would tell them? They have demonized, blacklisted and condemned everyone who disagrees with them. They have chased them out of Hollywood. They have banned them from speaking at colleges. They have de-platformed them on social media.
While Vice is Oscar-nominated, the TV mini-series Path to 9/11 will not be released on DVD because it accurately depicts Bill Clinton&#8217;s failure to kill Osama bin Laden when he had the chance.
While it becomes more and more clear that the Justice Department&#8217;s coup attempt against Donald Trump is one of the great scandals in American history, &#8220;journalists&#8221; are spending their time speculating on whether Donald Trump is a Russian spy.
Desperate to protect their simplistic imaginations from the healthy debate and interchange of the real and complex world, leftists have transformed themselves into willful idiots. They don&#8217;t know what they don&#8217;t know. And they don&#8217;t know that they don&#8217;t know.

Anyone catching the television ads for the Dick Cheney-trashing movie &#8220;Vice&#8221; found a heavy promotion of the surprising six Golden Globe nominations it received from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The affirmation also became the &#8220;news hook&#8221; for press interviews with the director and the actors to weaponize it politically.
Sadly for them, only actor Christian Bale won an award, for gaining 40 pounds and talking out of the side of his mouth like the Penguin in a Batman movie. This year&#8217;s Golden Globes were refreshingly devoid of obnoxious left-wing fulminating &#8212; except for Bale. He felt it appropriate to sneer as he accepted his award, &#8220;Thank you to Satan, for giving me inspiration on how to play this role.&#8221; He also joked he will now portray a series of &#8220;charisma-free a&#8212;holes,&#8221; possibly Sen. Mitch McConnell. At least it&#8217;s amusing that Bale won the award for best actor in a musical or comedy. No one should be confused about whether this film is based in reality &#8230; even though the commercials claim it is.
The Hollywood left has convinced itself that somehow Cheney is the lowest form of immoral human slime, a war criminal worse than Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden combined. &#8220;Vice&#8221; screenwriter and director Adam McKay, a self-described socialist whose filmmaking resume bursts with Will Ferrell comedies like &#8220;Anchorman,&#8221; even placed Cheney above President Trump on the liberal Evil Meter. The death of every man, woman and child in the Iraq War was President George W. Bush and Dick Cheney&#8217;s fault. &#8220;Don&#8217;t get me wrong, Trump is dispiriting and upsetting and we&#8217;ve essentially shot a drunk orangutan into the office,&#8221; McKay proclaimed to The Daily Beast. &#8220;But it&#8217;s nowhere near the damage these guys did.&#8221;
In a new &#8220;Six Questions&#8221; interview in the back of Time magazine, McKay proclaimed that Cheney became a danger to society, an international menace: &#8220;What intrigued me was that he wasn&#8217;t a sociopathic monster in the beginning. &#8230; Yet somehow that ambition, that American Dream, became something much darker.&#8221; Time interviewer Eliza Berman raised no objection to this character assassination.
McKay&#8217;s passionate loathing, alongside his arrogant belief in his own wicked sense of humor, resulted in a mess. Let&#8217;s face it. This pile of Golden Globe nominations &#8212; including one for best picture in a musical or comedy &#8212; reeked more of political activism than it did artistic judgment. Time magazine&#8217;s own film critic, Stephanie Zacharek, denounced it as faux art. &#8220;(I)f &#8216;Vice&#8217;&#8230; really is aimed at adults, why does it treat its audience like idiots?&#8221; she asked. &#8220;McKay seems to think we can&#8217;t be trusted to grasp what he sees as Cheney&#8217;s Machiavellian villainy unless he spells it out in cartoon language. There are no actual cartoons in &#8216;Vice,&#8217; but McKay packs in so much figurative Wile E. Coyote anvil dropping that there may as well be.&#8221;
Who would waste their money on this, except leftists fully immersing themselves in 132 minutes of hate?
Zacharek wished for a movie that &#8220;could have been an awesome Christmas gift to Dick Cheney haters everywhere.&#8221; The movie debuted on Christmas Day. What sicko celebrates the world-redeeming birth of Christ with a hate-Cheney movie?
The movie isn&#8217;t a box-office flop, like Michael Moore&#8217;s latest bombs. It has grossed over $30 million on 2,500 screens in its first two weeks, according to Box Office Mojo. But the left can stick a sock in the notion that it is the world&#8217;s guardian of humanity, unity and love while it&#8217;s subsidizing this socialist smear canister at the Cineplex.

The eldest daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney is now a Republican member of Congress from Wyoming. While her father would often ignore criticism, Cheney comes out with both barrels blazing.
And it doesn&#8217;t take her long to think up a good zinger, either.
Case in point: On Sunday night, the limousine liberals gathered to praise themselves in the annual Gold Globes Awards show. Actor Christian Bale won a Globe for his portrayal of the former vice president in the &#8220;fake news&#8221; film &#8220;Vice.&#8221;
In his acceptance speech, Bale said Satan was his inspiration for playing Cheney and suggested the next &#8220;charisma-free a**h***&#8221; he could play would be Senate GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
First, Bale thanked the movie&#8217;s director, Adam McKay, saying, &#8220;Thank you to that geezer, Adam. He said I&#8217;ve got to find somebody who can be absolutely charisma-free and reviled by everybody, so he went, &#8216;Oh, it&#8217;s gotta be Bale in it.&#8217; Thank you.&#8221;
Then he said: &#8220;And for all the competition, I will be cornering the market on charisma-free a**h***s. What do you think, Mitch McConnell next? That could be good, couldn&#8217;t it? Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration on how to play this role.&#8221;
