GOP lawmakers on Wednesday released more than 20 examples alleging President Joe Biden&#8217;s past involvement with his family&#8217;s foreign business dealings as they accused &#8220;Democrats and their corporate media allies&#8221; of ignoring the &#8220;mounting evidence.&#8221;
House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Republicans issued a <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/blog/evidence-of-joe-bidens-involvement-in-his-familys-influence-peddling-schemes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">news release</a> claiming Biden allegedly influenced peddling schemes to enrich his family from foreign sources, including China, Russia, and Ukraine when he served as vice president in the Obama administration.
&#8220;We have evidence of President Biden&#8217;s involvement in influence peddling schemes.&#8221; committee member Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) said in an <a href="https://twitter.com/RepAndyBiggsAZ/status/1701957684772118713" target="_blank" rel="noopener">X post</a>. &#8220;To say there&#8217;s &#8216;no evidence&#8217; is foolish. We&#8217;ve examined Suspicious Activity Reports, bank records, depositions, and more. The evidence continues to point us to the &#8216;Big Guy&#8217; aka Joe Biden.&#8221;
Hunter Biden&#8217;s former business partner, Devon Archer, told the House Oversight Committee during a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-oversight-members-confirm-president-biden-was-present-during-sons-foreign-business-phone-calls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">closed-door hearing</a> in July that Biden was on speakerphone for more than 20 calls with his son during business deals dating back to 2014.
&#8220;Archer described how Joe Biden was &#8216;The Brand&#8217; and was used to send &#8216;signals&#8217; of power, access, and influence to enrich the Biden family from foreign sources,&#8221; the committee wrote in the news release.
Republicans claim Biden and his family made millions of dollars from shell companies, including an energy company in Ukraine, a private equity firm in China, and consulting for a Romanian real-estate magnate. The investigation has also alleged Hunter pulled in an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-oversight-releases-memo-alleging-hunter-biden-received-millions-from-oligarchs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">estimated</a> $20 million through 20 shell companies and fake accounts while his father served as vice president.
The president has claimed he did not speak with his son about foreign business dealings.
The committee&#8217;s move comes amid House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) directing the House committees to open a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mccarthy-announces-formal-impeachment-inquiry-against-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">formal impeachment inquiry</a> into President Biden after months of House Republicans uncovering &#8220;serious and credible&#8221; allegations into President Biden&#8217;s conduct that he referred to as a &#8220;culture of corruption.&#8221;

But while the GOP seeks to return a similar impeachment treatment that Democrats gave former President Donald Trump, the Biden White House disseminated a memo to several legacy media outlets urging them to &#8220;ramp up &#8230; scrutiny&#8221; against the House Republicans&#8217; impeachment inquiry, adding it was &#8220;based on lies.&#8221;
&#8220;When even House Republican members are admitting that there is simply no evidence that Joe Biden did anything wrong, much less impeachable, that should set off alarm bells for news organizations,&#8221; the memo said, <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/4201615-white-house-urges-news-networks-to-increase-scrutiny-of-gops-biden-impeachment-inquiry/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The Hill.
White House spokesman for oversight and investigations Ian Sams <a href="https://twitter.com/tomselliott/status/1701948037118021878" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> CNN on Wednesday morning the GOP effort to remove President Biden from office &#8220;is part of the right-wing&#8217;s misinformation machine to try to confuse people about what the truth is.&#8221;
&#8220;The truth is that the president — as he has said publicly for years — calls his family every day to check in,&#8221; Sams said. &#8220;He calls his son every day to check in; he calls his other family members to check in to see how they&#8217;re doing.&#8221;
&#8220;He loves them,&#8221; Sams added. &#8220;They are a tight-knit family.&#8221;

As revealed in the newly-released transcript of his congressional testimony, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/devon-archer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Devon Archer</a>, Hunter Biden’s former business partner who served with him on the Burisma board of directors, <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Devon-Archer-Transcript.pdf">told</a> the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability that then-Vice President Joe Biden was “the brand” that his son Hunter sold around the world.
“You&#8217;ve had other conversations with Hunter Biden,” James Mandolfo, the general counsel and chief of investigations for the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, noted, adding, “You were his business partner for a long time.”
“Did he talk about how bringing his dad either to Ukraine or using his dad as Vice President would add value in the eyes of Burisma officials?” Mandolfo asked.
“Yes,” Archer answered.
“And how would that come up?” Mandolfo asked.
“I just think it&#8217;s almost — it&#8217;s pretty obvious if you&#8217;re, you know, you&#8217;re the son of a Vice President,” Archer answered. “He would — we would not talk specifically about — you know, he would not be so overt. And I think that&#8217;s, you know, I think that&#8217;s another obvious point, that he would not say, okay, we&#8217;re going to — we&#8217;re — you know, I&#8217;m overtly — we&#8217;re going to use my dad for this. But I think he would — you know, given the brand, I think he would look to, you know, to get the leverage from it”
Mandolfo cited a note from Hunter Biden to Archer dated April 22, 2014.
“Essentially, Hunter Biden copies and pastes what appears to be a quote from his father&#8217;s speech while Vice President Biden was in the Ukraine,” Mandolfo noted. “You then respond, ‘Wow. We need to make sure this ragtag temporary government in the Ukraine understands the value of Burisma to its very existence.’ Hunter Biden then said, ‘You should send to Vadym&#8217; &#8212; and who is Vadym again?&#8221;

“Would you agree with me this isn&#8217;t legal advice that&#8217;s adding value here that Hunter Biden is giving, the value add that Hunter Biden brings to Burisma is Vice President Biden?” Mandolfo suggested.
“The value that Hunter Biden brought to it was having — you know, there was — the theoretical was corporate governance, but obviously, given the brand, that was a large part of the value. I don&#8217;t think it was the sole value, but I do think that was a key component of the value,&#8221; Archer said.
“You keep saying ‘the brand,’ but by ‘brand’ you mean the Biden family, correct?” Mandolfo inquired.
“Correct,” Archer answered.
“When you say ‘Biden family’ &#8230; You aren&#8217;t talking about Dr. Jill or anybody else. You&#8217;re talking about Joe Biden. Is that fair to say?” Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) interjected.
“Yeah, that&#8217;s fair to say,” Archer replied, adding, “Obviously, that brought the most value to the brand.”
Mandolfo asked Archer what was the basis for knowing that Hunter Biden’s family was “adding value.”
“My basis for knowing that?” Archer answered. “Well, I think there was — there are particular, you know, objectives that Burisma was trying to accomplish. And a lot of it’s about opening doors, you know, globally in D.C. And I think that, you know, that was the, you know — and then obviously having those doors opened, you know, sent the right signals, you know, for Burisma to, you know, carry on its business and be successful.”
Archer later added, “My only thought is that I think Burisma would have gone out of business if it didn’t have the brand attached to it. That’s my, like, only honest opinion.”
He added that Hunter Biden being on the board was why Burisma “was able to survive for as long as it did,&#8221; emphasizing &#8220;just because of the brand,” and that the impact for Burisma included “the capabilities to navigate D.C. that they were able to, you know, basically be in the news cycle. And I think that preserved them from a, you know, from a longevity standpoint.”
Asked how that would work, Archer answered, “Because people would be intimidated to mess with them.” When asked “in what way,” Archer replied, “Legally.&#8221;

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) told journalists that Archer informed lawmakers on Monday that Hunter Biden sought to give the <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/hunter-biden-sold-illusion-of-access-to-his-father-former-business-partner-tells-congress">&#8220;illusion of access&#8221;</a> to his father, then-Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden">Joe Biden</a>, to get undue credit for things. This led to multiple news outlets <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/former-hunter-biden-associate-interviewed-by-republican-led-us-house-panel-2023-07-31/">publishing</a> headlines that <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4129974-devon-archer-debate-focuses-on-hunter-biden-illusion-of-access/#:~:text=Rep.%20Dan%20Goldman%20(D%2DN.,get%20credit%20for%20things%20that">trumpeted that phrase</a>.
CBS News senior investigative correspondent Catherine Herridge brought up Goldman&#8217;s version of events <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXmCll0sxHw">when reporting</a> on the release of Archer&#8217;s lightly-redacted transcript on Thursday.

Indeed, <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Devon-Archer-Transcript.pdf">as the transcript shows</a>, Goldman pressed the witness about the younger Biden selling the &#8220;illusion of access,&#8221; a phrase which Archer did not repeat and described as being &#8220;almost fair.&#8221;
Archer said there were contacts that he could not deny, even though he stressed that &#8220;nothing of material was discussed.&#8221; Hunter Biden put his father on speaker phone roughly 20 times during meetings with business associates, according to Archer, who said these calls were &#8220;signal enough to be powerful&#8221; despite only sticking to casual topics such as the <a href="https://twitter.com/RNCResearch/status/1686071608417402895" target="_blank" rel="noopener">weather</a>. In addition, Archer said the elder Biden attended some dinners with his son&#8217;s foreign business associates.

Goldman, who served as lead counsel in the first Trump impeachment, has emerged as the Democrats&#8217; most vocal defender of President Biden and critic of GOP-led inquiries.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) even <a href="https://twitter.com/townhallcom/status/1687149860040929280">called</a> Goldman &#8220;the new Adam Schiff,&#8221; a reference to the California congressman now running for Senate whom House Republicans <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-votes-to-censure-adam-schiff">censured</a> on accusations that he misled the public amid investigations into former President Donald Trump.
&#8220;He is the leading defense attorney in Congress for the Biden family,&#8221; Donalds added in an interview with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. &#8220;He&#8217;s going to spin and do whatever he needs to do.&#8221;

Longtime Hunter Biden business associate <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-demands-release-of-devon-archer-transcript-gop-led-panel-responds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Devon Archer</a> took questions from the House Oversight Committee on Monday — and just when he began to fill in the details tying President Joe Biden to his son&#8217;s questionable dealings with foreign business partners, a new hero stood up to protect the president.
The hero in question is former impeachment attorney-turned Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-dan-goldman-demands-gop-shut-down-probe-into-bidens-this-investigation-has-to-end-now" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dan Goldman</a> (D-NY) — who went straight to the cameras after Archer&#8217;s Capitol Hill appearance to reassure the public that if Joe Biden did talk to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-biden-doubles-down-on-campaign-claim-he-never-spoke-with-hunter-about-business-deals" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hunter&#8217;s business partners</a>, it was only to say hello or to discuss the weather.

&#8220;It was clear that it was part of the daily conversations that Hunter Biden had with his father,&#8221; Goldman told reporters. &#8220;It was — and sounds like most of the time now President Biden didn&#8217;t even know who the people he was at dinner, he was just asked to say hello and he would talk about the weather — he described it several times.&#8221;
Goldman went on to characterize Archer&#8217;s statements as proof that Joe Biden had not discussed anything relating to business, and had only been peripherally involved in &#8220;casual conversation.&#8221;
On Tuesday morning, Goldman joined MSNBC&#8217;s &#8220;Morning Joe&#8221; to continue his defense of Biden — and there he joined Jonathan Lemire in suggesting that Joe Biden&#8217;s preoccupation with his late son Beau Biden&#8217;s illness made it even less likely that he was willfully participating in anything untoward.

Lemire began by suggesting that at worst, it appeared that then Vice-President Biden had perhaps &#8220;turned a blind eye&#8221; to some of the things Hunter was involved in at the time.
&#8220;We should put this in context; this is the time when Beau Biden, the president’s other son, was ill and dying and then passed away. So perhaps he wasn’t as attentive to what he should have been,&#8221; Lemire said, arguing that he had yet to see any proof that Joe Biden had committed any crime.
Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson pivoted back to the previous talking point, suggesting that if Joe Biden had been party to any calls or dinners that he should not have been, it was because he loved his son. &#8220;We know how important family is to the president. So, do you hang up on your son?&#8221; he asked.
Goldman joined the conversation then, echoing Lemire&#8217;s comments and noting that it was around the time of Beau Biden&#8217;s death that Joe Biden redoubled efforts to speak with Hunter every day. He appeared to make the argument that if Joe Biden were involved in questionable calls, it was understandable because he was just trying to be sure he spoke with Hunter daily.
&#8220;Let&#8217;s put this in context: Beau Biden got very sick in early 2015. He died in spring of 2015,&#8221; Goldman said. &#8220;It was right in the middle when Devon Archer had his business dealings with Hunter Biden. At that point Joe Biden and Hunter Biden began to speak every day because they were both devastated by Beau’s death.&#8221;
Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald noticed Goldman&#8217;s avid defense, as well the fact that Beau Biden&#8217;s death was once again being used to shield Joe Biden from criticism.
