As California Governor Gavin Newsom gets floated as a top contender for the Democratic Party in 2028, he&#8217;s going all in on anti-Trump rhetoric, but with a new twist.
In recent weeks, the social media account for the governor&#8217;s office has been posting rants on X that copy the tone and style of President Donald Trump&#8217;s off-the-cuff statements on Truth Social. While imitation is said to be the sincerest form of flattery, Newsom is copying Trump in an attempt to give the president &#8220;a wake-up call.&#8221;
Earlier this month, the Governor Newsom Press Office X account raised eyebrows when it began posting warnings to Trump in all-caps and closed out with Trump&#8217;s signature line: &#8220;THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.&#8221; Newsom&#8217;s Trump impersonation began over the Republican effort to redraw Congressional maps in Texas, which would likely strip five seats from Democrats.

Newsom was asked last week whether the social media posts were part of a specific strategy from his team.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t know. I hope it&#8217;s a wake-up call to the president of the United States for following his example,&#8221; Newsom replied. &#8220;If you&#8217;ve got issues with what I&#8217;m putting out, you sure as hell should have concerns about what he&#8217;s putting out as president. So, to the extent it&#8217;s gotten some attention, I&#8217;m pleased, but I think the deeper question is how have we allowed the normalization of his tweets — Truth Social posts — over the course of the last many years to go without similar scrutiny and notice.&#8221;

Despite what Newsom says, Trump&#8217;s social media presence has been in the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/06/us/politics/donald-trump-twitter-use-campaign-2016.html">spotlight</a> since he jumped into politics in 2015, and it has been the <a href="https://ny1.com/nyc/queens/politics/2017/07/28/trump-s-use-of-social-media-to-announce-major-policy-changes-unprecedented--political-consultants-say">subject</a> of endless legacy media <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/07/donald-trump-facebook-social-media-capitol-attack">scrutiny</a>. The Left&#8217;s backlash to Trump&#8217;s social media snipes only added to the momentum that pushed Trump across the finish line in 2016 and again in 2024.
The White House blasted Newsom over the social media tactic, calling it inauthentic.

“Nothing about Newscum is authentic — from his rehearsed answers to his flip-flopping policy positions – he goes whatever way the wind blows… so it makes sense that he would try to mimic the President’s wildly successful communication strategy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but Gavin’s behavior is just getting weird at this point,&#8221; White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told The Daily Wire.
For Newsom&#8217;s X presence, the Trump parodies appear to be working — at least in terms of raw engagement. Before the press office X account began posting like the president, it would usually see between 200 and a few thousand likes, and some posts would hit 2,000 reposts if they were lucky. But when the governor&#8217;s office posts parodies of Trump, that&#8217;s a different story. Some of Newsom&#8217;s Trumpian posts reached over 100,000 likes and racked up around 15,000 reposts.
An official in the governor&#8217;s office told The Daily Wire that the press office X account has seen an increase of over 250,000 followers, while its engagement rate has gone up by more than 50% since August 1. Much of that engagement is negative, with many X users blasting Newsom&#8217;s social media tactic. Conservative commentators have also ripped the Democratic governor for copying Trump.
Fox News host Dana Perino, White House Press Secretary under former President George W. Bush, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dana-perino-warns-gavin-newsom-to-avoid-cringey-x-presence-and-he-doubles-down-instead?author=Virginia+Kruta&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=5&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=Dana+Perino+Warns+Gavin+Newsom+To+Avoid+Cringey+X+Presence%2C+And+He+Doubles+Down+Instead">said</a> on Monday that Newsom was &#8220;making a fool&#8221; of himself.
“You have to stop it with the Twitter thing. I don’t know where his wife is,&#8221; she added. &#8220;If I were his wife, I would say you are making a fool of yourself, stop it. Do not let your staff tweet, and if you’re doing it yourself, put the phone away and start over.”
Radio host Mark Simone <a href="https://x.com/MarkSimoneNY/status/1955713499750961437">added</a>, &#8220;Gavin Newsom is now paying massive tribute to Donald Trump by imitating him, copying him, trying to be him &#8211; look at his latest tweets. He is becoming Trump and the crazy left loves it (also a great tribute to President Trump).&#8221;
Newsom&#8217;s idea to channel Trump is connecting with those on the Left.
Jon Favreau, a &#8220;Pod Save America&#8221; co-host and former speechwriter for President Barack Obama, replied to Perino, saying, &#8220;Humor and mockery can be quite effective!&#8221;
&#8220;I mean, it&#8217;s pretty clearly a parody of Trump&#8217;s absolutely insane all caps, often non-sensical posts,&#8221; Favreau added. &#8220;Probably why all the people in my life who aren&#8217;t political junkies keep reaching out to say they don&#8217;t know much about Newsom but think the tweets are hilarious.&#8221;
Newsom&#8217;s Trump imitation isn&#8217;t the only social media tactic the Democratic governor has attempted this year. In February, Newsom <a href="https://www.kcra.com/article/gavin-newsom-launches-another-podcast/63942809">launched</a> a new podcast, the first episodes of which focused on discussions with “leaders and architects of the MAGA movement.” The first three guests on Newsom&#8217;s show were Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, conservative commentator Michael Savage, and former Trump Chief Strategist Steve Bannon.
Newsom said his podcast would seek to better understand conservatives while also asking how the Democratic Party could learn from Republicans&#8217; recent electoral successes.
“We already know what our disagreements are with the MAGA movement. I want to understand what the motivations are, the legitimacy of those motivations, and just really understand where people are coming from,” Newsom said. “They are influential — they are. They explain more things in more ways on more days about what’s going on and if we’re not trying to understand their motivations, we will be victims of their motivations.”
“At the same time, I want Democrats to come on and sort of challenge where we are on a lot of these issues,” he added. “And so I’m asking the same questions you’re asking of me: Where the hell is the Democratic Party?&#8221;
Newsom&#8217;s podcast launch was <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/newsletter/2025-04-01/gavin-newsom-podcast-charlie-kirk-maga-2028-election-essential-california">viewed</a> by some as an effort to position himself as more of a moderate who&#8217;s willing to reach a hand across to Trump supporters, as he&#8217;s considered a potential frontrunner in the 2028 Democratic presidential primary.
Six months later, Newsom is back to focusing all of his attention on attacking the president as Democrats push back on most of Trump&#8217;s actions — from immigration crackdowns across the country to the deployment of the National Guard and federal agents in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Since 2015, President Trump has obviously become very popular because of his stance on illegal immigration.
He said what most people aren&#8217;t willing to say: Illegal immigrants should go home. They don&#8217;t have a place in the country.
And the Left went nuts.
They are still going nuts over the fact that the president of the United States has single-handedly shut the southern border, and this means that apparently he&#8217;s bad and racist and all the rest.
But most Americans don&#8217;t believe that about Trump. Most Americans look at illegal immigrant crime and say President Trump is right.
The latest case in point: According to the Department of Homeland Security, California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom and his continued support for sanctuary policies are to blame for an illegal immigrant trucker who was given a driver&#8217;s license in California, then charged with killing three Americans in Florida when making an illegal U-turn.
Harjinder Singh entered the U.S. illegally in 2018 and then the state of California decided to give him a driver&#8217;s license. He was driving a semi in St. Lucie County, Florida, and he made an illegal U-turn that left three Americans dead.
Newsom was held responsible for Singh getting a driver’s license. He immediately responded that it was the fault of the Trump administration.
The issue is that he only had a commercial driver&#8217;s license despite being an illegal alien, thanks to a law passed in 2013 and then expanded by Gavin Newsom in 2022.
DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin <a href="https://x.com/TriciaOhio/status/1957503043710181746">wrote</a>, “Harjinder Singh is in the United States illegally, and his work authorization was rejected under the Trump administration on September 14, 2020. It was later approved under the Biden administration, June 9th, 2021. The state of California issues commercial driver&#8217;s licenses. There is no national commercial driver&#8217;s license.&#8221;
It turns out that the illegal immigrant trucker allegedly responsible for all of this failed an English language proficiency test and also failed to accurately identify highway traffic signs, according to the Department of Transportation.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy <a href="https://www.transportation.gov/briefing-room/trumps-transportation-secretary-announces-investigation-deadly-florida-truck-crash">said</a>, “If states had followed the rules, his driver would never have been behind the wheel and three precious lives would still be with us. This crash was a preventable tragedy, directly caused by reckless decisions and compounded by despicable failures. Non-enforcement and radical immigration policies have turned the trucking industry into a lawless frontier, resulting in unqualified foreign drivers improperly acquiring licenses to operate 40-ton vehicles.”
Authoritative estimates have placed California&#8217;s undocumented immigrant population in the range of 2 million. As far as driver&#8217;s licenses, California has, since 2015, allowed illegal immigrants to obtain driver&#8217;s licenses. By 2023, the California Department of Motor Vehicles had issued nearly 1.2 million original <a href="https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-licenses-identification-cards/assembly-bill-ab-60-driver-licenses/">AB 60</a> driver&#8217;s licenses to undocumented immigrants.
That&#8217;s crazy. So 1.2 million illegal immigrants are roaming around the United States with California driver&#8217;s licenses.

But this is part and parcel of a broader Democratic policy that suggests that somehow illegal immigration is a positive good for the United States, and you are inhumane or bad if you say that immigrants should not be in the United States.
In essence, this comes down to a question that&#8217;s increasingly being asked online: What ought an American to be? What is an American?
If you go all the way back to the American founding, the definition of an American was to be a natural-born citizen of the United States. There were real holes in the citizenship definition because it didn&#8217;t include, for example, black slaves in the South.
But the basic predicate for citizenship was that you were assimilating to the dominant culture of the United States, an Anglo-American culture, and you abided by the applicable law in your state, and you were not a drain on the people around you.
The history of the United States was successive waves of immigrants who were then assimilated into the dominant majority culture. Those successive waves of immigrants could be welcomed because there was no facilitation of inability to speak English. There was no facilitation of inability or unwillingness to assimilate to the dominant adherence to law.
My great-great grandparents came to the United States in the early 20th century. They spoke Yiddish, but they and their families immediately stopped speaking Yiddish as fast as possible so that they could actually immerse themselves in the American culture. That was true for the Irish, it was true for the Germans, it was true for the Italians, and it was true for many Hispanics.
And then something changed. And what changed was a gigantic welfare system, accompanied by a view of multiculturalism that suggested that not only ought you bring your home foods and some of your home traditions, but that your culture need not in any way mesh or assimilate with dominant traditions of law or believing in things like free speech or private property, or the constitutional government of the United States. The United States was to be the repository of any people who wished to come here, even if those people were just coming here to take advantage of the system itself.
That meant lower rates of assimilation. It also meant that people came here who didn&#8217;t speak English, couldn&#8217;t read road signs, were immediately entered into the stream of commerce, and then sometimes did things like commit crimes.
But if you say no to this, you are the problem.
What you actually want is people coming to the United States and becoming part of the American experiment by accepting the American experiment, by learning the language and becoming part of the culture, by believing in the creed of the Declaration of Independence.
But if you say those things, then many members of the Left will say, that&#8217;s wrong, that&#8217;s bad, that&#8217;s racist, because what you actually need are segmented populations that don&#8217;t actually believe in the American experiment. They don&#8217;t just bring their food and their customs; they also reject the dominant customs and heritage and law and legal framework of the United States.

That’s led to identity politics on the Left and to a concomitant rise of a new identity politics on the Right, which says, “If we are going to do various ethnic cliques in a ‘multicultural country,’ then what we really ought to do is have a white ethnic clique as a form of identity politics.”
None of this is good.
Until we get back to accepting legal immigrants but demanding that they know our laws, accept our laws and live by them, know our Declaration of Independence and Constitution and live by them, we are headed for the cliff.

The Democratic Party is in a &#8220;deep political hole&#8221; with voter registration, according to an analysis <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/20/us/politics/democratic-party-voter-registration-crisis.html">published</a> by The New York Times on Wednesday.
Between 2020 and 2024, Democrats lost ground to Republicans in all 30 states that track party affiliation when Americans register to vote, and the Times acknowledged the losses were &#8220;often by a lot.&#8221; In those 30 states, plus the District of Columbia, Democrats shed 2.1 million voters between 2020 and 2024. Republicans, meanwhile, gained 2.4 million voters.
&#8220;That four-year swing toward the Republicans adds up to 4.5 million voters, a deep political hole that could take years for Democrats to climb out from,&#8221; the Times wrote.
The major shift toward the GOP included vital swing states, such as Arizona and Pennsylvania, but Democrats also lost ground in the deep blue states of California, New York, and Massachusetts. In states where Republican voter registration was already blowing past that of the Democrats — such as Florida, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Oklahoma — GOP gains continued to grow.

While Democrats still outnumber Republicans by party registration nationwide, more newly registered voters across the country chose the Republican Party over the Democratic Party for the first time since 2018. The Times also noted that the Democrats&#8217; voter registration numbers are helped by massive blue states like California and New York allowing people to register by party, while the largest Republican state, Texas, and many of the deep-red southern states do not.

Decision Desk HQ&#8217;s director of data science, Michael Pruser, told the Times that there &#8220;seems to be no end&#8221; to the voter registration crisis for Democrats.
&#8220;There is no silver lining or cavalry coming across the hill. This is month after month, year after year,&#8221; he said.
In recent years, Democrats &#8220;fell asleep at the switch,&#8221; according to longtime Democratic strategist Maria Cardona. Even Tom Bonier, one of the party&#8217;s top voter registration experts, admitted to the Times that he &#8220;was wrong&#8221; after downplaying the Democrats&#8217; registration issues last year.
“Clearly, in retrospect, we can say the Democratic Party had dug itself in too deep a hole in the preceding four years for the Harris campaign to dig itself out in the last few months,” Bonier said.
Republicans, meanwhile, adjusted their strategy following President Donald Trump&#8217;s 2020 election defeat and <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/republicans-ballot-harvesting-fraud-claims-rcna151952">hit the gas</a> on voter registration and ballot harvesting strategies in 2024.
“We don’t like drop boxes, to be clear,” a Republican National Committee official said in May of 2024. “We’re still going to use drop boxes if we have to, if they’re available. Same thing with harvesting: Where it’s a practice that Democrats are partaking in, we’re going to partake in it, too.”
Republicans also benefited from the efforts of activist Scott Presler, who dedicated himself from 2021 to 2024 to registering Republicans in the all-important swing state of Pennsylvania. In the summer of 2024, voter registration in Bucks County, Pennsylvania — a competitive suburb of Philadelphia — shifted to a GOP advantage for the first time since 2007, according to the Times. Trump went on to win Bucks County in the 2024 election, becoming the first Republican presidential candidate to do so in the 21st century.
In Pennsylvania, Democrats held an advantage of more than 517,000 registered voters in 2020, but that lead has now <a href="https://x.com/ScottPresler/status/1954912806911844834">fallen to fewer</a> than 54,000. Much of that shift comes from Democrats switching their party affiliation to Republicans. From 2020 to 2025, around 314,000 registered Democrats flipped to registered Republicans, while just over 160,000 registered Republicans became registered Democrats.
Democrats are also losing support among young voters, who are shifting to the GOP. Last year, Republicans registered nearly twice as many voters under 35 as Democrats did in key states such as Nevada, the Times reported.

As the media and Democrats fulminate over President Trump&#8217;s supposed capitulation to Vladimir Putin, precisely the opposite seems to be happening.
But leave it to the media and the Left to deliberately misinterpret what is going on.
On Monday, President Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/with-historic-zelensky-visit-donald-trump-moves-the-world-one-step-closer-to-peace?author=Mary+Margaret+Olohan&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=14&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=With+Historic+Zelensky+Visit%2C+Donald+Trump+Moves+The+World+One+Step+Closer+To+Peace">met with</a> Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, along with a bunch of European leaders.
Everything seems to be moving toward Ukrainian territorial concessions in return for serious security guarantees for Ukraine.
Those guarantees would presumably be some form of European trigger force in Ukraine that would implicate a mutual defense pact. It wouldn&#8217;t exactly be NATO, but it would be NATO-lite. The problem is that to be a credible deterrent, you need tens of thousands of troops.
The second possibility is a trip-wire force that would trigger the possibility of the mutual defense coming into effect if Russia were to walk across the border.
A third possibility would be a kind of observer force, perhaps a few hundred troops or so, to report on incoming military action, which could be accomplished with satellites and ground cameras.
Of course, all of this flies in the face of the fact that Russia wants to leave Ukraine utterly defenseless and prostrate before them.
But here’s the thing: The fact that President Trump is willing to hold Russia&#8217;s feet to the fire by even talking about these kinds of significant security guarantees is a major move from the president, and pretending that it&#8217;s a pro-Russia move is silly. If there were a significant security guarantee, a sort of NATO-lite and Article Five-lite approach to Ukraine in exchange for territorial concessions in Donbas, that would be a masterstroke from the president of the United States, because otherwise this war just keeps going.
All of Trump’s forward movement on this issue is to the great consternation of both the media and the Democrats, who claim that Donald Trump was a Putin catspaw. They thought that Trump was going to welcome Zelensky to the White House yesterday by berating him and telling him he needed to basically surrender in the war: No security guarantees, no economic health, no nothing.
None of that happened. In fact, it was pretty warm. You could see Trump and Zelensky getting along. This was not an antagonistic meeting.

One of the things that Zelensky also said is that as part of any of the security guarantees put forward by Europe and the United States, Ukraine would buy $90 billion in American weapons via Europe. The rest of the NATO nations and the United States military would benefit from it. The defense industries in the United States would end up benefiting from that. He expressed gratitude to both President Trump as well as the EU leaders for their hard work on the possibility of a peace deal.
There are still a lot of steps to go. We still have to see whether Vladimir Putin actually is interested in ending the war in any serious way.
As I’ve said before, a good thing about President Trump is that he&#8217;s heterodox in his views, which means he does very creative things. But if things don&#8217;t happen, he will respond. He&#8217;s responsive. He doesn&#8217;t just stick with an idea, no matter what.
The idea that endless diplomacy is something that President Trump is going to pursue here is not true. If Russia does not come to the table, if he feels that Putin is jacking him around again, he&#8217;ll walk away. He is not going to be bullied by Vladimir Putin here.
Trump remains optimistic, saying that he thinks that Putin wants to make a deal.
For the media and the Left to pretend that somehow Trump is doing Putin&#8217;s work here is to ignore everything that&#8217;s actually going on in favor of a pre-established narrative.

Even Michael McFaul, who was President Obama&#8217;s Russian ambassador, <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5459351-mcfaul-praises-trump-peace-efforts/">admitted</a> that Trump is actually doing a pretty good job here. “I think this was a very positive meeting,” he said. “And whoever had the idea to bring all these European leaders together, in addition to President Zelensky, that was a brilliant, brilliant idea. And having it come so quickly after Alaska was also very important because now they&#8217;ve changed the talking points here. Just in this meeting alone, they&#8217;ve walked back some of the positions that the president was echoing, when he met with President Putin. So this is very positive progress.”
If you&#8217;re honest —even if you&#8217;re a Democrat — you should be acknowledging that President Trump not only is not doing anything wrong here, he&#8217;s actually moving the ball forward.
To pretend that this was somehow a gigantic Trump capitulation to Putin is to ignore the actual reality of the situation, and it demonstrates the wild disconnect between reality and what Democrats think of President Trump.
But then, Democrats and reality are like oil and water.

The Texas Democrat representatives who fled the Lone Star State to stop a mid-decade redistricting are returning, according to an announcement by the caucus. This will allow the state to conclude its drawn-out attempt to reshape the 2026 congressional map.
&#8220;We killed the corrupt special session, withstood unprecedented surveillance and intimidation, and rallied Democrats nationwide to join this existential fight for fair representation– reshaping the entire 2026 landscape,&#8221; said state Representative Gene Wu, who leads Democrats in the Texas House, according to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/18/politics/texas-california-redistricting-fight">CNN</a>.
&#8220;We&#8217;re returning to Texas more dangerous to Republicans&#8217; plans than when we left,&#8221; Wu continued. &#8220;Our return allows us to build the legal record necessary to defeat this racist map in court, take our message to communities across the state and country, and inspire legislators across the country how to fight these undemocratic redistricting schemes in their own statehouses.&#8221;
The Texas Democratic legislators chose to leave the state rather than voting in the special session that was called for the redistricting vote, which expired Friday. After it expired, Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) promptly called a second special session to finish the redistricting effort.
In a <a href="https://x.com/GregAbbott_TX/status/1956382209876869610">statement</a> on X announcing the second special session, Abbott said, &#8220;There is critical work that is left undone. Texas will not back down from this fight. That&#8217;s why I am calling them back today to finish the job.&#8221;
The Texas House of Representatives convened at 12 p.m. CT Monday, which enabled the legislature to continue with the special session. The new congressional map could made official by as soon as the end of the week.

The Texas lawmakers who fled the state have been hiding out in notoriously-gerrymandered <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-dems-cant-win-redistricting-fight-so-they-bravely-turn-tail-and-flee-the-state">Illinois</a> since August 4 while facing threats of fines and arrest for neglecting their duties from the Texas governor.
Abbott threatened to arrest the lawmakers at the start of the quorum break. &#8220;Once they step back into the state, they will be arrested and brought back to the Capitol and we will be conducting business,&#8221; Abbott told Fox News host Laura Ingraham at the time.
Soon after that, Abbott <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abbott-to-awol-texas-democrats-respect-voters-or-be-removed?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Abbott+To+AWOL+Texas+Democrats%3A+Respect+Voters+Or+Be+Removed">revealed</a> plans to remove the representatives from office. Abbott said that the actions of the Democrats amounted to &#8220;an abandonment or forfeiture of an elected state office&#8221; and that Texas law empowered him to fill the vacancies.

It is unclear what steps Governor Abbott will take against the representatives who fled the state as they return for the second special session.
The redistricting battle in Texas has since spilled over into blue states like New York and California, with Democratic state governors threatening to gerrymander their congressional districts to combat Texas&#8217; move.
California Governor Gavin Newsom notably responded to the controversy of Texas lawmakers fleeing the state by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newsom-threatens-retaliation-says-texas-redistricting-will-trigger-new-california-election-maps">saying</a>, &#8220;[The Republicans] triggered this response and we&#8217;re not going to roll over and we&#8217;re going to fight fire with fire, but we&#8217;re going to do so not just punching with the weight of the fourth largest economy, the most populous state in our union.&#8221;
&#8220;We also will punch above our weight in terms of the impact of what we&#8217;re doing, and I think that should be absorbed by those in the Texas delegation,&#8221; Newsom continued. &#8220;Whatever they are doing will be neutered here in the state of California, and they will pay that price.&#8221;

Justin Pearson (D-TN) claimed that his party needed to pull out all the stops and fight back against Republicans — to whom he referred alternately as &#8220;fascists&#8221; and &#8220;neo-confederates&#8221; — and argued that it wouldn&#8217;t matter in the long run what they were willing to do as long as they won.
Pearson was ousted from his position in the Tennessee House when he helped lead his party&#8217;s efforts to &#8220;occupy&#8221; the State House in protest, and then was reinstated days later — after claiming that he&#8217;d been forced out by &#8220;racists.&#8221; <a href="https://grabien.com/story?id=541230">During his appearance</a> with MSNBC&#8217;s Ali Velshi, he discussed the current state of American politics — particularly with regard to redistricting battles and Governor Gavin Newsom&#8217;s (D-CA) plan to &#8220;fight fire with fire.&#8221;
Velshi introduced Pearson as someone who had made a name for himself in fighting back, adding, &#8220;Brother Jones, welcome back to the show. You are living this. Not only have you done it, but you actually got reelected by your constituents to go back and fight some more. You have set this flavor out there a while ago that people want fighters. And right now voters are screaming out for this. They want people who will say, your morals should be good, but if they’re burning the house down you need to do something.&#8221;

&#8220;I mean, that’s exactly right, Brother Ali. You know, the house is on fire, we have to stop pretending like we don’t smell the smoke,&#8221; Pearson replied. &#8220;It’s time for America to wake up and put our morals above our manners. Now is not the time to engage in trying to play patty-cake with a party that’s been captured by fascists and neo-Confederates.&#8221;
&#8220;There is no bipartisanship anymore with a party that is intent on maintaining minority rule between tech oligarchs, White supremacists, and Christian nationalists,&#8221; Pearson continued, insisting that Republicans were attempting to build a sort of oligarchy. &#8220;They want a minority-run government, and they’re willing to do this at any means necessary. We must fight back.&#8221;
Pearson went on to claim that what they would not be judged as harshly for what they did to get power as they would be for what they did not do, adding, &#8220;You know, I think that we will be judged not by what we do, but by what we don’t do, to future generations.&#8221;
&#8220;Because if we’re serious about the threat of fascism, that means that there is nothing off the table. If we’re really serious about the threat that we face—&#8221; he explained. &#8220;That means we use everything at our table to fight back.&#8221;
Velshi made no move to push back on Pearson&#8217;s claims, instead agreeing with every point: &#8220;Because you will not be around to fight back if you don’t fight it now. Right!&#8221;

California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is running for the nomination for the Democratic Party in 2028, has a redistricting plan. He is all hot and bothered about the fact that the Texas state Legislature is going to redistrict, which they are allowed to do by all available and applicable law in the state.
They&#8217;re not supposed to do this in California, however. The state constitution states they can redistrict every ten years along with the census, and also that there is an independent commission that is supposed to administer the redistricting.
But now, Gavin Newsom has decided it&#8217;s his “moment.”
Of course, he believes that it’s always his moment.
That&#8217;s the thing about Gavin Newsom. He has never not had a moment just in the last few months.
We had the Gavin Newsom moment over the fires — where he somehow blamed President Trump for the giant fires taking place in his state.
There was the Gavin Newsom moment over illegal immigration, where he claimed that President Trump was trying to fascistically take over the state of California.
This is the third Gavin Newsom “moment” in the past six months. He is now claiming that he is going to redistrict the state of California in order to fight back against those evil Texas state legislators who are attempting to redistrict and put the state more in line with its actual political proclivities.

You might be saying to yourself, “Wait, hold up. I thought that California was one of the states that has an independent redistricting commission in an attempt to prevent things such as what Gavin Newsom is doing right now.” They do. That&#8217;s true.
California does not have very many Republican seats in the first place. In fact, the state of California is split about 60-40 Democrats over Republican, but Democrats hold an extraordinary number of seats in the state of California.
Yet he wants to redistrict anyway. Why?
As a response to President Trump, Newsom suggested, “We have to fight fire with fire,” which is a bad metaphor for him to be using, considering his state is legitimately and literally on fire every couple of months, thanks to his forestation policies.
California currently has 52 congressional seats and 43 of them are held by Democrats. That&#8217;s a lot more than the percentage of the population of California that is actually Democrat. They&#8217;re going to fight “fire with fire” by doing more of what California has been doing all along.
Just to demonstrate, by the way, what a sham the Independent Redistricting Commission is in the state of California — because California is indeed highly gerrymandered — the independent redistricting commissioner, Sara Sadhwani, said the state should simply redraw the maps without any independent redistricting authority, which shows how independent she was in the first place.
Not that she’s a Democratic tool or something like that.
But there is a problem for the Democrats in California, and that is that the Californian voters are not particularly interested in doing any of this.
According to a new poll, by a 2 to 1 margin, voters prefer keeping an independent line-drawing panel to determine the state&#8217;s House seats. Only 36% of respondents favor turning congressional redistricting authority to state lawmakers.
So this is a problem for Gavin Newsom — if he cared.
He doesn’t. If he wants to take the California Democrats from 43 of 52 possible seats to 48 of 52 possible seats, and the California Constitution prevents him from doing it and the voters stop him, he can still say he tried his best. And that is the most important thing to him, because Gavin Newsom is interested in one thing and one thing only: running for president in 2028.
That’s why he continues to promote the lie that President Trump is going to run for an unconstitutional <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FxfsAarcdQE">third term</a> in 2028.
“I said in a moment, ‘Wake up, America, wake up. You will not have a country if he rigs this election. You will have a president who will be running for a third term. Mark my word. I wasn&#8217;t exaggerating when I said that I received in the mail a Trump 2028 hat from one of his biggest supporters. These guys are not screwing around. The rules do not apply to them. The most corrupt president in history.”
I think we need to send Gavin Newsom a Trump 2036 hat because obviously somebody sent him, as a joke, a Trump 2028 hat and he took it seriously.
Let&#8217;s go further than that. Let’s send him a Trump 2040 hat.
We need to make one and send it to Newsom because the dude cannot take a joke.
Maybe that’s because he is a joke.

Representative Delia Ramirez, from Illinois, was in the news recently for standing in front of a group of Hispanics in Mexico City and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-america-last-left-cuts-loose">declaring</a> that she is a proud Guatemalan before she’s an American. Indeed, she’s so proud of Guatemala that her family fled the country, settled here illegally, and have refused to return. They would rather break the law in this country than live in Guatemala. That’s how proud of Guatemala they are.
That’s the inherent contradiction anytime an immigrant claims to be so deeply proud of the homeland that they desperately don’t want to live in. But the greater problem, of course, is that Congresswoman Ramirez has announced that she is more loyal to a foreign country than to her own. Granted, her loyalty to Guatemala seems rather uninspiring and conditional. She’s loyal from a distance. But her loyalty to the United States is clearly even weaker. She puts it second place to the country that her family have spent decades trying to avoid going back to.
It should be uncontroversial to say that any elected representative who declares a greater loyalty to a foreign country than to this country should be removed from office at an absolute minimum.

In Ramirez’s case, it’s obvious that she, and her entire family, should be deported. If she loves Guatemala so much, she can live there. The fact that Delia Ramirez wasn’t on a boat back to Guatemala five minutes after she made those remarks is a disgrace. In fact, we didn’t even have to put her on a boat. She said all of that in Mexico City. All we had to do was lock the door and not let her back in. That’s what she deserves. This woman is a disloyal, backstabbing, ungrateful Judas who never should have been granted citizenship in the first place. There’s no time like the present to rectify that mistake. Especially after her most recent comments.
Yes, Ms. Ramirez is at it again. This time it was the NetRoots Nation conference in New Orleans. During a sit-down discussion on stage at the conference, Ramirez was asked a very simple question. It’s a question that everyone running for elected office should be asked. It’s a question that every immigrant should be asked before we even think about granting them citizenship. It is the question. The new “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/what-is-a-woman?row=0&amp;elementPosition=4&amp;rowType=Square+Show+Carousel">What is a Woman?</a>” And the question is: “What is an American?” And just as the Left never figured out how to define the word “woman,” they have just as much trouble — if not more — stringing together an even vaguely coherent definition for the word “American.”

So Representative Ramirez says that being an American means that we can “dream and love,” and also that we recognize all the evils of colonialism and all the bad stuff America did in the past. That’s her answer.
Now, there are a lot of problems here.
First of all, Ramirez, what is this “we” stuff? You’re an anchor baby. You became an American thanks to a paperwork loophole. You have no ancestral ties to this country. You don’t love it. You don’t respect it. You have made no effort to assimilate into our culture. In fact you hate our culture and our people. Your family showed up here illegally. Their very first act as residents (illegal residents) of this country was to break our laws and violate our sovereignty.
You and your family are squatters. Using the word “we” is like if a junkie broke into your house while you were on vacation, refused to leave, and then started referring to it as “our home.” Now imagine if that was a home that your grandfather had built with his own hands. A home that you had lived in since birth. A home built and maintained by your family’s sweat and blood and sacrifice. And now some random vagrant, who broke in through a downstairs window five seconds ago, has announced that it’s just as much his home as yours. You wouldn’t take very kindly to that. And we don’t take very kindly to it either. There is no “we.” This is not your home.
We know it isn’t because if it was your home, you’d be able to speak at length, and with real depth and feeling, when someone asks you what this home means to you. But instead when you were asked what it means to be an American, you started with third-rate, Hallmark pablum about how being an American means that you can “dream and love.” In fact it’s worse than Hallmark. I wouldn’t accept that answer if it was written on a July 4th greeting card. I wouldn’t accept it on a second grader’s book report. You’re a grown adult and an elected representative and the best you can do — in fact the only positive thing you can say about America — is that Americans can “dream and love.”
Does that mean that people in other countries can’t dream and love? Is dreaming and loving unique to Americans? Do your fellow Guatemalans never experience love, or have dreams, until they sneak across the border into our country? I’m pretty certain you wouldn’t make that claim. Which means your definition of an American is generic and meaningless. “Being an American means that you can dream and love and laugh and look at pretty colors and have tickle fights.” If my five year old daughter said something like that I’d be embarrassed. You’re an adult. You should be deported just for saying that, and for about a dozen other reasons.
But somehow it gets worse. We learn that Americans are people who dream and love, whatever that means, and also — and this is the only other qualification you provide — they are people who feel the requisite amount of scorn and resentment for the alleged evils committed by Americans in the past. Never mind that the United States only had slavery for about 90 years while many countries in the world had it for millennia. Never mind that white people — Americans and Europeans — were among the last to adopt slavery and the first to abolish it. Never mind that if we’re supposed to feel bad about slavery, then literally every other nation, race, and ethnicity on Earth should feel even worse. There were countries in Africa practicing legal slavery as recently as the 1970s. Never mind all that. Also never mind the fact that the “colonialism” you decry is the reason why you currently live in a civilized society where you don’t have to worry about being kidnapped by a raiding part in the middle of the night and having your beating heart cut out of your chest to appease the sun god. If not for “colonialism” in the western hemisphere, there would still be slavery here. The entire hemisphere would still be locked in perpetual wars of conquest. And you, as a woman, would be property to be bought, traded, stolen, used, and discarded. Because that’s how it worked among the “indigenous tribes” whose conquest and subjugation you lament, because you&#8217;re a stupid, ungrateful, historically illiterate, spoiled little child.
But as I said, never mind all of that. Even if we pretend that America has all of these unique and terrible sins — which it doesn’t — still, couldn’t anyone, anywhere in the world, recognize those sins? Couldn&#8217;t anyone, anywhere in the world, dream and love, and also hate America as you do? If that’s the qualification to be an American, then by your definition, anyone, anywhere, at any time, at any given moment, can be an American. Considering there are a lot of people in the world who hate America — mostly out of envy, like you — and considering that most of those people are presumably capable of dreaming and maybe even loving, that would mean that there are billions of Americans currently living in the world today. And most of these “Americans&#8221; have never even been to this country. The Middle East is full of Americans. The entire country of China is American. North Koreans are all Americans. Everyone is American. Which means, of course, that no one is American. It means that being an American actually means nothing.

That’s your real answer, isn’t it, Ramirez? You just don’t want to say it out loud. Being an American means nothing to you. America means nothing. America is nothing. It’s not a country. It’s not a place. It’s not even an idea. It’s nothing. It is, at most, a vague feeling. A fleeting sense of something or other. There is nothing solid that defines it. Now if I were to ask you what it means to be Guatemalan, you would have a lot more to say, wouldn’t you? You would talk about the culture, the people, the pride you feel for Guatemala, the fidelity you have to it. Guatemala is a distinct country to you. In fact every country on the globe that isn’t predominately populated by white people is a distinct country. America is not a feeling of love, it’s not a dream, and it’s certainly not a set of Marxist claims about the evils of white colonialism or whatever. America is a country. It is a country with borders, and laws, and a language. It is a people. It is a culture, a history, and a tradition. It is also — in addition to those things, not on its own but in addition — a set of values. Values rooted in Christian thought. This land was conquered and this country was established by Christian men who did it for the glory of God and for the sake of spreading the Gospel from sea to shining sea. That’s America. It is a nation. It is a home. My home, not yours. It’s the place where I was born and will die. It’s where my children will have children, and where their children will have children, and all of them will love this country just as I do, and celebrate its history, and fight to preserve its culture and its traditions. Because I’m an American, and I put no country before this one.
You cannot say the same. Because you are not an American. You can’t even convincingly pretend to be one.
So what is an American? Well, to begin with, certainly not you.

Democrats often tout a study that predicts the global economy will crash this century thanks to climate change. It turns out the study is bogus, according to a new analysis.
The <a href="https://archive.ph/UfbWa">paper</a>, published in the journal Nature last year, claimed that global gross domestic product will plummet by 62% by 2100 compared to where it would be without climate change. About 19% of the global economy will be lost in the next 25 years, the study claimed.
The dire predictions were three times higher than previous estimates, causing alarm over the possibility that climate change could destroy the global economy within people&#8217;s lifetimes.

Democrats pounced on the study&#8217;s terrifying warnings.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) <a href="https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/volume-170/issue-80/senate-section/article/S3575-2">read</a> the study into the Congressional Record.
&#8220;Climate change is not just about polar bears or green jobs. It is about economic storm warnings to which we had better start paying attention,&#8221; Whitehouse said from the Senate floor in May last year, just weeks after the study came out.
Whitehouse <a href="https://www.whitehouse.senate.gov">says</a> he has &#8220;been at the center of efforts to address climate change.&#8221;
The flawed study was the second most cited climate paper in 2024 by news outlets and on social media, <a href="https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-the-climate-papers-most-featured-in-the-media-in-2024/">according</a> to one analysis.
However, a new <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-025-09320-4.epdf?sharing_token=3rbBF4IXLwsMKEER39Y9xtRgN0jAjWel9jnR3ZoTv0P8TEvZgfgWlZ-BR6o_g0srhfsE2PjjhNpvdF9g5tn3tk1V8soSo09634cfw2IcMpTvo0EiunI6aYH327RiT5shGydCkhJRZZ9KPqSB8xRMpbmVOKRbMP3qKhAvviNlo60%3D">analysis</a> published in Nature this month found that &#8220;data anomalies&#8221; from one country, Uzbekistan, wildly skewed the &#8220;predicted impacts of climate change.&#8221;
Uzbekistan&#8217;s bad data showed the country&#8217;s GDP falling off a cliff back in 2000 and then nearly doubling in some regions in 2010, among other eyebrow-raising anomalies. The data was so skewed that it upended the study&#8217;s results dramatically.
The country has not experienced these wild swings in its GDP, <a href="https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.MKTP.KD.ZG?locations=UZ">according</a> to other <a href="https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/uzb/uzbekistan/gdp-gross-domestic-product">sources</a>.
Without Uzbekistan&#8217;s data, the predictions about how climate change would affect the global economy were much less dire — global GDP <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2025/08/06/nature-study-flawed-climate-damages/">would</a> drop 23% by 2100, down from 62%, and it would drop just 6% by 2050, not 19%, according to the new analysis.
When the paper&#8217;s mistake came to light, even The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2025/08/06/nature-study-flawed-climate-damages/">admitted</a> the study&#8217;s authors made a &#8220;big error.&#8221;
During the peer review process, one anonymous reviewer expressed skepticism as well.
“I find all of this well explained and fairly convincing, yet, purely subjectively, I have a hard time in believing the results, which seem unintuitively large given damages aren’t perfectly persistent,” the reviewer <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2025/08/06/nature-study-flawed-climate-damages/">said</a> in a peer review <a href="https://static-content.springer.com/esm/art%3A10.1038%2Fs41586-024-07219-0/MediaObjects/41586_2024_7219_MOESM2_ESM.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">document</a> on the study.
That reviewer went on to approve the study, however, after speaking with the authors.
The study&#8217;s authors pushed back, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2025/08/06/nature-study-flawed-climate-damages/">noting</a> that if they corrected for the Uzbekistan data — but also altered their study&#8217;s methodology — they got similar results showing a plummeting world economy.
Critics are skeptical.
“Science doesn’t work by changing the setup of an experiment to get the answer you want,” said Solomon Hsiang, director of the global policy laboratory at Stanford University and one of the authors of the new analysis on the study&#8217;s flaws.
“This approach is antithetical to the scientific method,” Hsiang <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2025/08/06/nature-study-flawed-climate-damages/">told</a> The Washington Post.

Minnesota Representative and Democratic Senate candidate Angie Craig condemned President Donald Trump&#8217;s crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C., although she once swore to put a man who assaulted her in her D.C. apartment behind bars.
Referring to Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-hell-push-for-long-term-extensions-of-d-c-federal-takeover?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Says+He%E2%80%99ll+Push+For+%E2%80%98Long-Term+Extensions%E2%80%99+Of+D.C.+Federal+Takeover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">deployment</a> of the National Guard to the nation&#8217;s capital, Craig <a href="https://x.com/RepAngieCraig/status/1955428012289065257" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on X Tuesday that &#8220;President Trump&#8217;s actions are totally unjustified and a waste of taxpayer dollars.&#8221;
But Craig was not opposed to cleaning up the city streets when she was assaulted in an elevator of her own apartment complex by a homeless man who was reportedly acting like he was on drugs.
In February 2023, Craig reported seeing a man, who was later identified as 26-year-old Kendrick Hamlin, in the lobby area of her apartment building &#8220;acting erratic,&#8221; as if he was under the influence of an unknown substance, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/police-release-photo-of-suspect-in-assault-of-house-democrat" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The congresswoman told police that after she told Hamlin &#8220;good morning,&#8221; he followed her into the elevator and &#8220;began to randomly do push ups.&#8221; Craig told police that he then punched her on the chin area of her face, and later grabbed her neck.
After defending herself, Craig escaped with no major injuries and called for the man to be brought to justice.
Hamlin was soon arrested, although he <a href="https://x.com/CBSMornings/status/1625484488695328769" target="_blank" rel="noopener">assaulted</a> the two officers who apprehended him. It then came out that Craig was Hamlin&#8217;s &#8220;assault number 13&#8221; on the repeat offender&#8217;s record, which made Craig promise &#8220;to do everything in my power to make sure there is not a 14, a 15, a 20.&#8221;
Hamlin is serving a <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/district-man-sentenced-prison-assaulting-member-congress-and-two-police-officers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">27-month sentence</a> on assault charges.
According to Craig, what bothered her was that Hamlin had previously attacked 12 people and had never served more than 30 days in jail.
While announcing her Senate bid for the 2026 election year, Craig said in an <a href="https://www.audacy.com/podcast/the-morning-news-with-vineeta-sawkar-2e837/episodes/angie-craig-on-the-biggest-factor-for-voters-to-support-her-us-senate-run-i-dont-hesitate-to-talk-to-anyone-i-can-sit-down-and-talk-to-family-farmers-or-any-worker-a8440?action=AUTOPLAY_FULL&amp;actionContentId=201-91d55cea-ecaa-4019-ad02-ef5a851fa7f7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> that her harrowing experience just two years prior was &#8220;a pivotal moment in my life&#8221; and that &#8220;it took about six months to build up the mental health strength … to be able to evaluate whether I was going to move forward or not.&#8221;
Craig continued by saying that &#8220;Understanding that the man who assaulted me was homeless and was an addict and that we failed him as a country — all of those things can be true at the same time– in addition to [the fact that] I was his thirteenth count of assault.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s hypocritical and shameful for Congresswoman Craig, a DC crime victim who experienced a traumatic assault, to oppose efforts to ensure what happened to her doesn&#8217;t happen to anyone else,&#8221; National Republican Senate Committee Press Secretary Nick Puglia said in a statement to The Daily Wire. &#8220;All Americans deserve to be safe, regardless of their job title, but Craig claims efforts to make the nation&#8217;s capital safe are &#8216;unjustified.'&#8221;
Although many Democrats have criticized Trump&#8217;s move to crack down on crime in the nation&#8217;s capital, the president is swiftly moving forward with plans to extend his takeover of the city by calling on Congress to pass a resolution enabling him to do so.
&#8220;We think the Democrats will not do anything to stop crime, but we think the Republicans will do it almost unanimously,&#8221; Trump said.

According to polls, the increased amount of support for New York Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani is coming from people under the age of 35. 
Mamdani has never held a real job in his entire life. If you were looking for the definition of a career useless person, this would be the guy. 
You might say to yourself: How does a person with effectively no résumé, who worked for his mommy and was a rapper, wind up as the Democratic nominee in New York City?
But to misunderstand that is to misunderstand everything about Gen Z.
I&#8217;m not a politician, so I don&#8217;t have to pretend that the concerns of Gen Z are legitimate. I understand that if you&#8217;re a politician, then you have to placate people when they emotionally explain to you why their life is so difficult. Sometimes people do have difficult lives with real challenges in the world.
But when I hear from Gen Z that the American dream is dead to them, all I can think of is this: You have got to be kidding me.
I&#8217;ve read many pieces over the last couple of years now that Gen Z has it tougher than any generation in modern history. I thought to myself, “I&#8217;m going to vomit.”
How many serious wars have they had to live through? Zero. Zero serious terrorist attacks. They have lived in the most prosperous time in human history and the healthiest time in human history.
But because their rent is too high in New York City, while they concomitantly hold some sort of nonprofit jobs, they whine.
I don&#8217;t mean everyone in Gen Z complains without reason — there are many people who are suffering, who have a disease, who have health problems, who have been dealt a rough hand by life.
Those are not the people I&#8217;m talking about.
The generational complaint that somehow Gen Z has it worse than the millennials or Gen X or the boomers, or the Greatest Generation, ignores literally all of American history, all of it.
But if you&#8217;re a politician, you can make bank by pretending that these people have legitimate concerns and they&#8217;re not just being ungrateful and bratty. For these folks, Mamdani is an avatar.

He has no resume. He grew up absolutely loaded with wealth, and currently is taking advantage of a rent-controlled apartment in New York City. He is currently living in a rent-stabilized apartment where the rent is $2,500 a month. The market rate would be $8,000 per month. He earns $147,000 a year and is campaigning on housing affordability in New York City.
You might think to yourself, “That&#8217;s crazy. How are all of these socialists in New York City supporting somebody who&#8217;s so clearly a hypocrite?”
But that misses the point: So many folks in America look to their politicians as aspirational figures. I think a lot of people who love President Trump view him as an aspirational figure, somebody who&#8217;s very wealthy and very powerful, somebody who&#8217;s made more of himself than otherwise he might have had at the beginning. Yes, he grew up rich, but he made himself into a brand name available all across the world for literally decades, and then became President of the United States twice.
It&#8217;s an aspirational thing.
But what if the Gen Z aspiration is to be a career loser who lives off of their parents’ income until they get some sort of cush government job living in a rent-stabilized apartment? What if that is the actual aspiration? What if people look up to Zohran Mamdani not in spite of the fact that he is a loser, but because he is a loser?
A lot of New Yorkers now have jobs and backgrounds very similar to Mamdani’s.
And this is the central point. 
Armin Rosen noted in <a href="https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/zohran-mamdanis-fantasy-island">Tablet Magazine</a>:
<blockquote>New York is thought of as the sink-or-swim epicenter of American capitalism, but that’s not true anymore. The city is home to more than 600,000 jobs in <a href="https://www.osc.ny.gov/files/reports/pdf/critical-role-of-nonprofits-in-new-york.pdf">the nonprofit sector </a>and a roughly equal number of <a href="https://dol.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2025/08/new-york-city.pdf">jobs in government</a>. Nonprofits now employ nearly 17 percent of the city’s total private-sector workforce, compared to 10 percent nationally. Wage growth in the nonprofit sector healthily outpaced the rest of the private sector statewide in New York between 2017 and 2022, 29.3 to 25.3 percent.</blockquote>
Wage growth in New York City is healthy because it&#8217;s all done off of government grants.
All of those nonprofits are not independently raising their money. They&#8217;re getting money from the government. Thus, they&#8217;re effectively second-order government employees.
When you look at the stats in New York, you understand just why Mamdani is so successful. You have well over 50% of the population that is working for some sort of government-orchestrated, government-organized, or government-funded segment of the economy.
In other words, the people who are getting money from the government are not the people who are paying for the government. They&#8217;re all Zohran Mamdani types. They&#8217;re living off the largesse of government.
Meanwhile, all of the rent across New York City has been rent-stabilized. 50% of all of the units across New York City have been rent-stabilized. One million units have been rent-stabilized, which means that there&#8217;s an artificially low supply of new construction in New York City. That means the prices go up. 
Mamdani is complaining about “affordability.” It should be pointed out that it&#8217;s all left-wing policies that made things unaffordable. Additionally, of the people who are in New York City trying to afford those rent-controlled, rent-stabilized apartments, a huge number of them are on the government dole, so they are earning from both ends. The government is stabilizing their rent, and at the same time, the government is likely subsidizing their salary.
This is why I&#8217;m irritated when I hear from Gen Z about how tough things are in places like New York.
We should point out that there has been this mindset that has settled in among the American population that you are supposed to die where you were born. 
This is not a typically American idea. There are people on the Right who believe this. There are people on the Left who believe this. But it is not a traditional American idea. The traditional American idea, if you go back to the very beginning, was to cross an ocean with nothing to guarantee what was going to happen. People went into the wilderness, built a crappy house, and tried to start a business. And if that didn&#8217;t work, they would abandon that place and move further to the west, across mountain ranges, across rivers.
That was the original American idea.
Traditionally, when it was too expensive to live in a place, Americans went somewhere else.
But Americans are not doing that anymore. Instead, the reason so many New Yorkers seem warm on socialism is that many New Yorkers are already living a form of socialism. They are living the Zohran Mamdani lifestyle, where they are being supported by the government in a wide variety of ways, ranging from the regulatory to the actual subsidy.
So when they say things are so hard in New York City, and the answer is more redistribution from the people who are earning all of the income and paying all the taxes, the answer should be NO.
At some point, there&#8217;s going to have to be a call for some level of responsibility on the part of young people.
I grew up in a 1,100 square-foot house with one bathroom and shared a bedroom with my three sisters until I was eleven. I did have the ultimate privilege: a solid two-parent household.
And you know what? It was a fine life. I&#8217;m grateful for that life.
I&#8217;m telling this story because there is this dumb assumption that if you talk about mobility in America and the capacity of people to make smart decisions and to make the kinds of moves that will be necessary to achieve success, the immediate accusation is that it was only true for you, it&#8217;s not true for anybody else.
But it&#8217;s not only true for me. It is true for a huge majority of Americans. If you make smart decisions in America, and if you stop whining for five seconds, and if you go out and make better decisions for yourself, you can make a better life for yourself.
So many politicians make bank off this idea that America is dying, that the American dream is dying. Who does better because of that?
Politicians.
This is how they gain power, because every time they fail, they turn around and they say, “The system has failed. Give me more power.”
This is how you end up with Zohran Mamdani or Bernie Sanders.
It&#8217;s not going to work out for anyone who believes this garbage. It&#8217;s not going to work out for the city of New York. It&#8217;s not going to work out for the country.
The only person who can make your life better in the end is you. You are the person who makes your life better, not Mamdani, not Bernie Sanders.
Most Americans are not dreaming of a government job, making a decent salary, and living in a rent-stabilized apartment.
That is not the American dream.
It never was.

Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton said on Tuesday that he is seeking the arrest of Democrat Robert Francis &#8220;Beto&#8221; O&#8217;Rourke over O&#8217;Rourke&#8217;s alleged violation of a court order requiring him to stop fundraising for the AWOL Texas Democrats.
Paxton <a href="https://x.com/KenPaxtonTX/status/1955295153079586937">accused</a> O&#8217;Rourke of &#8220;blatantly&#8221; violating a temporary restraining order &#8220;by continuing to fundraise and pay for the personal expenses of runaway Democrat legislators.&#8221; Last week, Tarrant County, Texas, District Court Judge Megan Fahey <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-election/beto-orourke-blocked-financially-supporting-texas-democrats-fled-state-rcna224002">barred</a> O&#8217;Rourke and his political group, Powered by People, from funding the group of 50 Democrats who fled the state to stop a vote on a GOP-backed Congressional map.
Paxton alleges that O&#8217;Rourke violated the restraining order immediately after it was issued by telling a crowd of supporters that he would continue fundraising for the runaway Democrats. O&#8217;Rourke also told the crowd that Democrats should “f*** the rules” and “win whatever it takes,&#8221; calling on Democrat-led states to redraw Congressional maps to take seats away from Republicans, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/f-the-rules-beto-goes-off-the-rails-says-dems-will-win-whatever-it-takes">reported</a>.
&#8220;There are no refs in this game, f*** the rules, we are going to win whatever it takes. We’re going to take this to him in every way that we can,&#8221; O&#8217;Rourke said.
In a press release, Paxton said that O&#8217;Rourke &#8220;is wrong on both counts.&#8221;
&#8220;There is a referee—the Honorable Megan Fahey—and there are rules—namely, that a person violating a temporary restraining order can be fined up to $500 and jailed for up to six months,&#8221; the Texas attorney general added. &#8220;Given Robert Francis&#8217;s vulgar disdain for the rule of law and immense personal wealth, imprisonment is absolutely necessary to persuade him to obey the lawful restraining order issued by the Tarrant County court.&#8221;

The Democratic legislators <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/post/texas-democrats-illinois-vow-stay-special-session-ends-despite-st-charles-bomb-threat-greg-abbotts-arrests/17504587/">remain</a> out of the state this week, defying last Friday&#8217;s deadline that Speaker of the Texas House Dustin Burrows put in place for their return. The Democrats vowed to stay out of Texas past the 30-day special session, but Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abbott-vows-to-hold-special-sessions-in-texas-for-years-until-delinquent-dems-return">said</a> on Sunday that he would continue to call special sessions.
“I’m authorized to call a special session every 30 days. It lasts 30 days. And as soon as this one is over, I’m gonna call another one, then another one, then another one, then another one,” the governor said.
“If they show back up in the state of Texas, they will be arrested and taken to the capitol. If they want to evade that arrest, they’re gonna have to stay outside of the state of Texas for literally years,” he added. “They might as well just start voting in California or voting in Illinois, wherever they may be.”
