<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Comedian Jay Leno said certain people believe he should get a girlfriend to keep him company as his wife of 45 years, Mavis, battles dementia.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The former host of “The Tonight Show” discussed what he’s been hearing during a recent </span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h361wQC3E4M"><span style="font-weight: 400;">episode</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> of the “Life Above the Noise with Maria Shriver” podcast.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I’ve said this a bunch of times: you take a vow when you get married &#8212; and people are stunned … they’re so shocked that you would live up to it,” Leno said. Mavis was diagnosed with dementia in 2024 and Leno was granted a conservatorship in April of that year.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“My favorite thing was … and this is the most Hollywood thing. A guy said to me, ‘So, are you gonna get a girlfriend now?’” the 75-year-old comedian said.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Leno said he responded by saying, “Well no, I have a girlfriend. I’m married. Been married 45 years.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The person apparently pushed back, saying, “Yeah, but you know what I mean.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Leno went on to marvel at how people’s views on marriage have changed over the years. “No, we’re kinda in this together here,” he recalls saying. “Honey, I’ll be with my girlfriend! I’ll be back later,” he joked.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Leno said people now aren’t used to “just doing the right thing because you’re supposed to.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“That used to be the norm, and then when you strayed, that was the out-of-whack part. Now the out-of-whack part is fairly common, and staying and doing what you’re supposed to do is stunning to people,” Leno told Shriver. “We kind of made a deal.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“This is that thing of, ‘Okay, you’ve been pretty lucky up to this point. It’s been easy sailing. This is where it gets a little tricky,’” the former late night host added. “I’m glad I’m passing the test. Because you never quite know what you’re going to do in that situation. So I like to think I made the right decision.”</span></p>

<p>Emma Willis, wife of actor Bruce Willis, has shared new details about life after his frontotemporal dementia (FTD) diagnosis, including what she calls the most difficult decision she’s had to make.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Emma, 47, made the comments during an <a href="https://abc.com/news/83a8aa7b-dc91-47c4-b9b4-62dd550661cc/category/1138628">interview</a> with ABC’s Diane Sawyer that aired on Tuesday. “Emma &amp; Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey” traces the family’s path, beginning with their March 2022 announcement of Bruce’s retirement from acting and exploring how they’ve moved forward since.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Bruce is in really great health overall, you know. It’s just his brain that is failing him,” Emma told Sawyer</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">. “The language is going, and, you know, we’ve learned to adapt,” she said. “And we have a way of communicating with him, which is just a different, a different way.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Emma said she believes the “Die Hard” star recognizes her and his five daughters because of how he “lights up” when they’re around.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“He’s holding our hands. We’re kissing him. We’re hugging him,” she told Sawyer. “He is reciprocating. You know, he is into it.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“And so that’s all I need, you know?” Emma added. “I don’t need him to know that I am his wife, and we were married on this day … I don’t need any of that. I just wanna feel that I have a connection with him. And I do.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Emma explained how some of the first signs of FTD included personality changes, like Bruce becoming quieter when he used to be talkative. “He felt a little removed, a little cold, not like Bruce, who is very warm and affectionate. To go the complete opposite of that was alarming and scary,” she said. “I didn’t understand what was happening, and I thought just, like, ‘How can I remain in a marriage that doesn’t feel like what we had?’”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She said Bruce, now 70, also started missing lines during filming and seemed confused, which was abnormal for him. They received the FTD diagnosis and were told there was no treatment or cure.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">FTD is “the result of damage to neurons in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain,” </span><a href="https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/frontotemporal-disorders/what-are-frontotemporal-disorders-causes-symptoms-and-treatment"><span style="font-weight: 400;">according to</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> the National Institute on Aging. Symptoms can include “unusual behaviors, emotional problems, trouble communicating, difficulty with work, or difficulty with walking.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Emma also discussed moving Bruce to a detached one-story house to be with his caregiving team full-time, calling it “one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make.” She told Sawyer she visits him daily and eats meals with him twice per day.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I knew first and foremost Bruce would want that for our daughters. He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs. We’re there a lot. It’s our second home, so [the] girls have their things there. It is a house that is filled with love and warmth and care and laughter, and it’s been beautiful to see that. To see how many of Bruce’s friends continue to show up for him and they bring in life and fun,” she said.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Bruce and Emma got married in Turks and Caicos in March 2009 and went on to have two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn. The actor was previously married to Demi Moore for 12 years and has three daughters with her: Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah.</span></p>

<p>Responding to Willis&#8217; photos — which she captioned, &#8220;Sunday funday at Grams ! Grateful&#8221; — one fan suggested that perhaps she should not share photos of her father as he continues to struggle with his health.</p>
<p>&#8220;I don’t think you should expose your dad to the public! He is vulnerable! And some things should be kept private! You don’t have his permission to post it!&#8221; the comment read.</p>
<p>&#8220;Hi. I hear that. As a family we use our discretion when posting. Today was a great day filled with smiles,&#8221; Tallulah responded to the comment directly. &#8220;I made the judgment call to show that to the world, because I know what he means to everyone.&#8221;</p>
<p>The majority of the comments were positive, however, and many shared personal stories of their own loved ones who had suffered from dementia or other similar conditions. Most defended Willis in her decision to celebrate and share the good moments whenever they came, saying that it was clear from the photos that he was surrounded by family and well-loved.</p>
<p>The beloved action star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bruce-willis-reveals-diagnosis-that-is-taking-him-out-of-the-hollywood-game">left Hollywood</a> abruptly in 2022, publicly sharing a diagnosis of aphasia. Several months later, his family revealed that he&#8217; been diagnosed with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-bruce-willis-diagnosed-with-frontotemporal-dementia">frontotemporal dementia</a>.</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">A Columbia University professor who participated in pro-Hamas protests has been connected to more than $100 million in grants while she has promoted the idea that brain disease can be catalyzed by racism.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia neuropsychologist Jennifer J. Manly “stood in a human blockade intending to prevent administrators from dismantling the unauthorized encampments last April,” City Journal’s Christopher Rufo and Hannah Grossman <a href="https://www.city-journal.org/article/columbia-professor-hamas-protest-grants-research">note</a>, adding, “According to the <a href="https://reporter.nih.gov/search/zcvQRKaEW0WDLNxgjsBwVg/projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Institutes of Health</a> and other publicly <a href="https://grantome.com/search?q=@author%20%20Jennifer%20Manly" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accessible</a> databases, she has been named in connection with over $100 million in grants over the past 20 years.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Rufo and Grossman point out that in an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kG8pK6XJqM" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> last year, Manly declared that “we shouldn’t blame people for their lifestyle choices in terms of their brain health,” blaming “systems of oppression” and “discriminatory beliefs” to cause an inordinate percentage of dementia among black people. “Any biological differences are driven by &#8230; racism,” Manly stated, adding that racism is “the pathway through which race is ‘biologized.’”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“One paper Manly coauthored <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26412671" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blamed</a> ‘historical patterns of segregation’ for higher rates of dementia among blacks. Another <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39692214" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paper</a> blamed ‘structural sexism’ for declining memory, with the effect found to be stronger among black women,” Rufo and Grossman report.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The National Institutes of Health granted Manly and her colleagues roughly $700,000 to examine how racism and brain disease are connected, prompting a <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39616788/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paper</a> titled “The impact of historical lynchings on biological and cognitive health for older adults racialized as Black.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The paper’s abstract stated, “This study examines the association between state-level exposure to historical lynchings (adverse childhood racism for modern older adults), with C-reactive protein (CRP, a marker of systemic inflammation), and global cognitive performance (modified TICS).”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Another <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38665381/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paper</a>, titled “Impact of Structural Socioeconomic Racism and Resilience on Cognitive Change Over Time for Persons Racialized as Black,” stated in its abstract, “These findings reveal the impact of racist U.S. policies enacted in the past that influence cognitive health over time and dementia risk later in life.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The medical director of Do No Harm, psychiatrist Kurt Miceli, called Manly&#8217;s linking lynchings with black dementia rates “political,” not scientific. “He goes on to explain that the marker Manly uses to track her hypothesis of racism-invoked stress—CRP—can rapidly change and is more influenced by health factors such as obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, and high blood pressure,” Rufo and Grossman write, adding, “Manly continues to <a href="https://edshareproject.org/about/people" target="_blank" rel="noopener">help lead</a> a <a href="https://www.usaspending.gov/search?hash=f0004c4dc92174ad68fbe554a390b0eb" target="_blank" rel="noopener">multimillion-dollar</a> government <a href="https://edshareproject.org/about/history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">project</a> funded by numerous agencies that tracks brain aging. She also currently maintains more than $20 million in active grants to support <a href="https://www.neurology.columbia.edu/profile/jennifer-j-manly-phd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">her research</a> at the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center and the Taub Institute at Columbia.”</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Former talk show host Wendy Williams might be released from her guardianship as rumors swirl that she’s feeling unhappy and trapped in her current situation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 60-year-old celebrity reportedly signed an affidavit on Wednesday petitioning a judge to end the current arrangement due to her &#8220;regained capacity&#8221; to function without a guardian, per sources who spoke with <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2025/02/12/wendy-williams-signs-legal-document-to-end-guardianship/">TMZ</a>. The outlet noted that Williams is slated to be evaluated by a doctor chosen by her attorney early next week to assert that she never had Frontotemporal Dementia since that condition never improves.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The source further stated that Williams’ lawyers are prepared to take the matter to trial if the judge denies her petition.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This development comes after TMZ dropped a documentary titled “TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy&#8221; detailing Williams living in a strict facility where she says she does not have access to the internet, incoming phone calls, or even fresh air.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In court filings, Williams’ guardian has claimed she “is cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.” But Williams told TMZ founder Harvey Levin she feels “fantastic” and is “not incapacitated,” per </span><a href="https://people.com/wendy-williams-claims-she-hasnt-seen-doctor-in-nearly-2-years-11679025"><span style="font-weight: 400;">People</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Williams insisted earlier this month that she was misdiagnosed. “I don’t have frontotemporal dementia…it’s disgusting,” Williams said when she called into The Breakfast Club on February 5. “That’s a very rare thing for anybody to have.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I’m not incapacitated,” she said later. “I am not a baby.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A prior phone call with the same radio show had Williams saying more of the same things about her condition and how she shouldn’t be in an assisted living facility. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One day before “Where Is Wendy Williams?” aired, her team announced that the former TV host had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, as previously </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/wendy-williams-publicist-says-lifetime-documentary-exploited-her-she-would-be-mortified"><span style="font-weight: 400;">reported</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“In 2023, after undergoing a battery of medical tests, Wendy was officially diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">frontotemporal dementia (FTD),” the press release said, noting how her symptoms “have already presented significant hurdles in Wendy’s life.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Speaking to </span><a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/jay-leno-feels-very-lucky-despite-burn-accident-challenges-wifes-dementia-battle"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fox News</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, the 74-year-old former late-night talk show host and comedian said he didn’t focus on the struggles he’s faced over the last few years, after having to be hospitalized with third-degree burns to his hands and face from a car fire and breaking multiple bones in a motorcycle accident, after his wife&#8217;s diagnosis was revealed earlier this year.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;I got burned in a fire. I got a face full of gas,” Leno said. “A spark jumped. [It’s] not like, ‘How did this happen?’ I mean, people get burned every day.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Leno &#8212; who was in the hospital for eight and a half days &#8212; said he “missed two days&#8217; work. So it wasn&#8217;t bad. It was &#8212; that is better than the broken leg, believe me.&#8221;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In January, the former “The Tonight Show” host filed the paperwork in a Los Angeles courtroom to become the </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/legal"><span style="font-weight: 400;">conservator</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> of his wife’s estate following her dementia diagnosis, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jay-leno-files-for-conservatorship-of-wifes-estate-amid-her-dementia-diagnosis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">The documents said that Leno’s wife “presently lacks the necessary capacity” to make her own decisions.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Unfortunately, Mavis has been progressively losing capacity and orientation to space and time for several years,” the filing said. Mavis’ doctor added a capacity declaration confirming that Leno’s spouse “suffers from dementia, major neurocognitive disorder.”</span></p>

Jay Leno Has Only Good Thoughts About His Life Amid Wife’s Dementia Battle

<p style="font-weight: 400;">MSNBC host Joe Scarborough mocked Justice Department special counsel Robert Hur’s <a href="https://www.justice.gov/storage/report-from-special-counsel-robert-k-hur-february-2024.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> on the investigation into President Biden’s alleged unauthorized removal, retention, and disclosure of classified documents for its implication that Biden’s mental faculties were diminishing.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Although the report concluded that Biden, as vice president, “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” it stated that “no criminal charges were warranted in this matter &#8230; the evidence does not establish Mr. Biden&#8217;s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">What seemingly prompted Scarborough’s response to the report were passages like the following that indicated Biden’s mental faculties were diminishing:</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory. Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him-by then a former president well into his eighties-of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.</p>

<p>Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-was-an-absolute-puddle-bruce-willis-wife-reveals-what-their-9-year-old-taught-her-about-his-disease" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bruce Willis</a> was recently diagnosed first with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bruce-willis-reveals-diagnosis-that-is-taking-him-out-of-the-hollywood-game" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aphasia</a> and then with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-bruce-willis-diagnosed-with-frontotemporal-dementia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">frontotemporal dementia</a> – a diagnosis that effectively put an end to his career in Hollywood – and his daughter Tallulah said that even his family may have missed some of the early warning signs of his condition.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/its-settled-bruce-willis-daughters-put-an-end-to-long-running-debate-over-die-hard" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Willis</a>, 29, is the youngest of the three daughters shared by ex-spouses Bruce Willis and actress Demi Moore – and she told <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/bruce-willis-and-me-memoir-tallulah-willis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vogue Magazine</a> that even before her father was officially diagnosed, she had known for quite some time that something was not quite right.</p>
<p>&#8220;It started out with a kind of vague unresponsiveness, which the family chalked up to Hollywood hearing loss: &#8216;Speak up!&#8217; &#8216;Die Hard&#8217; messed with Dad’s ears,'&#8221; she wrote, adding that the unresponsiveness she had noticed only increased over time — and she sometimes took that as a personal slight due to their changing and growing family.</p>
<p>&#8220;He had had two babies with my stepmother, Emma Heming Willis, and I thought he’d lost interest in me,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;Though this couldn’t have been further from the truth, my adolescent brain tortured itself with some faulty math: &#8216;I’m not beautiful enough for my mother, I’m not interesting enough for my father.'&#8221;</p>
<p>Willis went on to describe her own battle with anorexia nervosa, explaining that even if she knew something was not right with her dad, she was in no way equipped to help or even consciously acknowledge it because of how sick she was, weighing just 84 pounds at one point.</p>

<p>&#8220;While I was wrapped up in my body dysmorphia, flaunting it on Instagram, my dad was quietly struggling. All kinds of cognitive testing was being conducted, but we didn’t have an acronym yet,&#8221; she said, adding, &#8220;I remember a moment when it hit me painfully: I was at a wedding in the summer of 2021 on Martha’s Vineyard, and the bride’s father made a moving speech. Suddenly I realized that I would never get that moment, my dad speaking about me in adulthood at my wedding. It was devastating. I left the dinner table, stepped outside, and wept in the bushes.&#8221;</p>
<p>It was another year before she could fully address her own illness – and then she began to wonder whether it would have been allowed to progress so far if her father had not been &#8220;quietly struggling&#8221; with his own developing illness.</p>
<p>&#8220;What if my dad had been his full self and saw me at that size? What would he have done? I’d like to think that he wouldn’t have let it happen,&#8221; she mused. &#8220;Maybe he’s a stereotypical father of a certain generation in that way, a doer who, if he had understood, might have scooped me up and said, &#8216;This is ending now.&#8217; His style has always been to plug the leak even if he’s not sure why the leak is happening. Certainly there are benefits to examination, but there’s a beauty in his way, and I don’t think I noticed it until he was no longer capable of it.&#8221;</p>

<p>The 95-year-old wife of former President Jimmy Carter continues to live &#8220;happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones.&#8221;</p>
<p>The statement noted Rosalynn Carter&#8217;s lifelong work as an advocate for mental health services, dating back to when her husband was the governor of Georgia.</p>
<p>&#8220;As the founder of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers, Mrs. Carter often noted that there are only four kinds of people in this world: those who have been caregivers; those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers,&#8221; the statement said. &#8220;The universality of caregiving is clear in our family, and we are experiencing the joy and the challenges of this journey. We do not expect to comment further and ask for understanding for our family and for everyone across the country serving in a caregiver role.&#8221;</p>

<p>The statement also noted the prevalence of dementia in senior citizens, adding that the disease can lead to other health and mental health problems for those suffering from it.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jimmy-carter">Jimmy Carter</a>, 98, is facing his own health problems and has &#8220;decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention,&#8221; the Carter Center said back in February. &#8220;He has the full support of his family and his medical team.&#8221;</p>
<p>Earlier this year, the family of actor Bruce Willis, 67, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-bruce-willis-diagnosed-with-frontotemporal-dementia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed</a> that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.</p>
<p>Frontotemporal dementia often begins with changes in personality, including apathy and loss of inhibition, before progressing to memory loss. Though the exact cause is unknown, the symptoms are the result of damage to the neurons in a person’s frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, and there is currently no cure for the disease.</p>
<p>“Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD),” the family said. “Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”</p>
<p>“FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone. For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know,&#8221; the statement continued. &#8220;Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead. As Bruce’s condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research.”</p>
<p>Willis’ family shared a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bruce-willis-reveals-diagnosis-that-is-taking-him-out-of-the-hollywood-game" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> last year on social media announcing that he was stepping away from his acting career after he had been diagnosed at the time with <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/aphasia/symptoms-causes/syc-20369518">aphasia</a>, a disorder that affects speech. Aphasia, often caused by head injury or stroke, can also develop gradually as a result of other neurodegenerative diseases.</p>

<p>She went on to note that it wasn&#8217;t surprising to see Evelyn come up with something like that, saying that the 9-year-old and her father both shared a penchant for random trivia.</p>
