The University of Southern California canceled a high-profile gubernatorial primary debate just hours before it was set to take place following backlash over the event’s lack of racial diversity among invited candidates. The debate, scheduled for Tuesday and hosted by USC’s Dornsife Center for the Political Future, was scrapped after criticism that the selection criteria excluded several candidates of color.
The original lineup featured six candidates: Republicans Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco, and Democrats Tom Steyer, Katie Porter, Eric Swalwell, and Matt Mahan. Absent were several established Democratic candidates of color, including former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, former State Controller Betty Yee, and State Superintendent Tony Thurmond.
USC had initially defended its selection process, saying invitations were based on a “data-driven” formula developed by a university professor that weighed polling and fundraising. But critics argued the methodology produced a skewed outcome in a crowded race with no clear frontrunner.
The controversy escalated after California legislative leaders <a href="https://x.com/Elex_Michaelson/status/2036275609316499957">demanded</a> the university expand the debate field. “Every excluded leading candidate—Xavier Becerra, Betty Yee, Tony Thurmond, and Antonio Villaraigosa—is a person of color,” lawmakers wrote in a letter to USC President Beong-Soo Kim. “When a methodology produces this outcome … the burden falls on USC to explain itself, not on everyone else to accept it.” The letter went further, calling on voters to boycott the event if the university refused to revise its criteria.
“If USC does not do the right thing, we call on California voters to boycott this debate,” the lawmakers wrote. “If the university will not give voters a fair shot at evaluating everyone running for governor, voters should find other ways to learn about the candidates.”
Despite standing by the formula’s academic backing, USC ultimately <a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-governor-debate-usc-candidates-bias-91539c81a8ecaf8612c0eacd04dc1312">reversed course</a> late Monday, announcing the debate would be canceled after organizers failed to reach an agreement on expanding the stage. “We recognize that concerns about the selection criteria … have created a significant distraction from the issues that matter to voters,” the university said in a statement.
The decision comes amid an unusually crowded and fluid race to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom, with no candidate <a href="https://www.270towin.com/2026-governor-polls/california">polling</a> above 20% in the last month and multiple contenders clustered within single digits of one another. That lack of a clear frontrunner has heightened the stakes around debate access, with candidates arguing that exclusion from major forums could significantly impact voter awareness in a low-information primary.
California’s primary system adds another layer of complexity. Under the state’s “top-two” format, all candidates, regardless of party, appear on the same ballot, and only the two candidates who receive the most votes advance to the general election. That structure has raised concerns among Democrats that a fragmented field could allow two Republicans to advance if the vote is split.
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, whose inclusion drew particular scrutiny due to his late entry into the race and strong fundraising from <a href="https://localnewsmatters.org/2026/02/14/matt-mahan-billionaire-tech-donors-california-governor/">wealthy donors</a>, said canceling the debate was the wrong approach. “The answer isn’t to cancel debates, it’s to hear all voices,” he wrote on <a href="https://x.com/MattMahanSJ/status/2036437715823239453">X</a>.
Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, one of the excluded candidates, praised the decision. “USC made the right call, even if it came late and under pressure,” he wrote in a <a href="https://x.com/AVillaraigosa/status/2036421070748787047">post</a> after the decision.
The tension surrounding how institutions balance data-driven decision-making with political and social considerations is not unfamiliar in California, a state where <a href="https://www.govops.ca.gov/diversity-equity-and-inclusion/#:~:text=California%20has%20taken%20action%20to%20embed%20equity,methodologies%20and%20opportunities%20to%20advance%20racial%20equity">diversity</a> is treated as a central benchmark of legitimacy. In this case, sadly, a formula designed to measure candidate viability ended up triggering the very kind of equity concerns it was meant to avoid, ultimately leaving voters with no debate at all.

Walk into any corner of American political discourse today — scroll through social media, watch a committee hearing, or tune into any podcast — and you will see the same thing: grown adults calling each other names like middle schoolers fighting over a cafeteria seat. The foul language, the personal insults, the public meltdowns, the performative rage. This is not strength. It is not leadership. It is insecurity dressed up like courage and cowardice masquerading as conviction.
Somewhere along the way, we replaced statesmanship with screaming. We replaced persuasion with profanity. Ultimately, we have replaced the old fashioned American habit of debating ideas with the cheap and empty thrill of attacking people.
More than a century ago, Teddy Roosevelt, a man defined by both bold action and deep humility, gave us the blueprint for a better way: “Speak softly and carry a big stick.”
Today, however, we have the opposite — loud voices and small sticks.
The big stick Roosevelt spoke of was not brute force. It was strength, moral, intellectual, strategic, and spiritual. It was the confidence to act boldly without needing to shout about it. It was the courage to make hard decisions without cursing out everyone who disagreed. It was the wisdom to understand that real power does not have to announce itself. That&#8217;s the model that built America. The opposite tears it down.
Nowhere is this more obvious than in the rise of profanity and name-calling as the default language of our modern political media. There is nothing courageous about calling your opponent a slur on X. There is nothing tough about dropping f-bombs into every sentence so people will mistake your aggression for authority. And there is nothing admirable about influencers who pretend to be fighters for truth while reducing every debate to schoolyard taunts.
Profanity is not a sign of depth, it is the last resort of someone who has run out of arguments. Name-calling is not a sign of strength, it is emotional immaturity. And using your platform to bully instead of uplift does not make you a leader, it makes you an attention addict.
The people screaming the loudest in politics today, both on the Left and on the Right, have something in common: they are far more committed to growing their audiences than growing their country. Drama pays. Rage sells. Insults go viral in a way that virtues rarely do. But ask yourself: When was the last time vulgarity solved a national problem? When was the last time calling someone a “retard” secured a border, balanced a budget, defended a family, or healed a division? It does not. It cannot. It never will.
History tells us who actually moves nations forward. If the loudest voices were also the most effective, America would be thriving right now. But our most consequential leaders embodied the opposite of today’s political showmanship.
Consider Abraham Lincoln, arguably the greatest persuader in American history. Under unthinkable pressure, he chose calm over chaos, clarity over insults, and moral force over personal attacks. He did not need vulgarity to restore the Union. He relied on conviction, compassion, and clarity of purpose.
Think of Thomas Sowell, one of the most influential thinkers of the last century. A man who never needed to insult anyone to defeat their ideas. He does it with facts, discipline, and rigorous logic. Sowell’s writing has changed more minds in silence than a thousand social media personalities have changed by shouting. He has proved that a sharp intellect always cuts deeper than a sharp tongue.
Consider Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who led a movement that reshaped the moral conscience of the nation. He did not use foul language to rally a crowd. He did not dehumanize his enemies. His power came from his principles, not his profanity.
Look also at Ronald Reagan, whose strength came not from shouting but from optimism, clarity, and humor. He defeated the Soviet Union not with insults but with strategic vision, principled courage, and unshakeable conviction.
Even today, modern examples remain. American heroes across the military, law enforcement, public service, and civic life continue to change this country quietly and honorably, without needing the spotlight or the shock factor. They speak softly. They carry real sticks. They do real things.
Sometimes turning the volume down can amplify the ideas.
This is why the tragedy of our current political culture is so stark. We now confuse volume with vision. The modern algorithm rewards outrage, not outcomes. People chase retweets rather than respect and the result is a nation drowning in noise but starving for leadership.
When every debate becomes a brawl, the serious people leave the arena. When profanity becomes the currency of influence, the wise stop speaking.
The truth is that courage requires restraint. There is a myth that strong men must be loud men. But the opposite is true. The strongest people are those who can keep their composure while others lose theirs. The most persuasive voices are those that remain calm when the room gets heated. The most impactful leaders are not the ones who shout to be heard but ones whose character makes others quiet down to listen.
A man who must curse to be taken seriously has already lost the argument.
A politician who must demean others to feel powerful is already revealing weakness.
And an influencer who has to shock, insult, or degrade his audience to remain relevant is not shaping culture. He is cheapening it.
The good news is that we can reverse this cycle. The American people still hunger for calm over chaos, wisdom over theatrics, and substance over stunts. They want leaders like Roosevelt who can speak softly because they actually carry the biggest sticks: experience, knowledge, values, courage, humility, and truth.
Imagine a generation of leaders who choose persuasion over profanity, character over clout, solutions over screams. Imagine if our public square once again rewarded virtue instead of virality.
Today, too many people are doing the opposite. It is time to reject the cowards hiding behind insults and elevate the adults who carry real sticks. It is time to restore civil discourse to America. And it is time we stop celebrating the yellers and start honoring the builders.

Actress and comedian Amanda Seales — who described herself as a &#8220;radical black woman&#8221; and an &#8220;artistic intellectual,&#8221; among other things — debated 20 black conservatives, and while many made good points, one in particular stood out when he challenged her claim that reparations were both &#8220;just and necessary.&#8221;
Seales made the assertion on &#8220;Surrounded,&#8221; a debate series presented by political YouTube channel Jubilee, and the 20 conservatives stepped up one at a time to take the seat opposite her and engage in debate.
The second to sit across from Seales was one of the youngest in the group and he introduces himself as &#8220;Matt Nuclear&#8221; before stating that he felt privileged to be debating such a beautiful black woman.

Seales dramatically lowered her head, raising a hand to her forehead and sighing loudly.

&#8220;You can give everyone here like a $50,000 check – especially the people that are in the streets who are committing violent crimes consistently — a $50,000 check, it’s not going to fix anything. It’s not going to increase the median household income in ten years by 10% or 20%.&#8221;
&#8220;For example, we had the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;We prevented Chinese people from getting citizenship and even entering the country. We discriminated against them and basically put them under apartheid, even here in the United States, yet they have the highest median household income. How is that possible? How come they don’t complain and feel entitled consistently to beg for reparations and beg for this when they are killing each other 90% of the time — which is the rate that black people kill each other, according to the FBI?&#8221;
&#8220;Oh, young Matt,&#8221; Seales did not attempt to hide her exasperation.
&#8220;Yet white people are the oppressors,&#8221; he interjected.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not sure where your education came from, but they lied to you,&#8221; Seales claimed, despite the Straight Arrow News-provided fact-check attached to the published video that largely verified Nuclear&#8217;s statements.
&#8220;Stats don&#8217;t lie, though,&#8221; he protested.
&#8220;Statistics lie all the time,&#8221; Seales insisted, suggesting that the numbers were being manipulated specifically to keep black Americans oppressed. &#8220;So let&#8217;s start there.&#8221;
She went on to claim that there was no comparison to be made because the Chinese immigrants had come to America of their own volition, and then claimed that efforts were still being made to keep black people from &#8220;existing in their true citizenship,&#8221; but never explained what that would look like.
When Nuclear pushed back, she interrupted, &#8220;Are you acting right now? Do you really believe this?&#8221;
When he pointed to decades of FBI data that showed black people were more likely to be killed by other black people than by white people, she laughed at him.
She treated the others who debated her throughout the in similar fashion, repeatedly interrupting and talking over them while demanding that they show her respect and allow her to finish her every point. At one point, she even demanded that Nuclear talk to her like he would talk to his mother.
According to the comments on YouTube, many felt that Seales had been the one not showing respect for the others.
&#8220;She insulted almost every one of them and demanded respect for shouting them down each time,&#8221; one wrote.
Another added, &#8220;&#8216;Are you shaking your head no at me?&#8217; Says the one who literally rolled her eyes at everything they said.&#8221;
&#8220;The disrespect of this woman is insufferable. Demanding respect while not giving any, rolling her eyes constantly, cutting people off, insulting almost every single one of them and never stating any facts. Every time she said something the SAN fact check proved her wrong. I pray that she doesn&#8217;t get into ANY politics again,&#8221; another said.

The starting act focused on last week&#8217;s vice presidential debate.

The actual Walz <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vp-debate-walz-calls-himself-a-knucklehead-when-pressed-about-china-falsehood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called himself a &#8220;knucklehead&#8221;</a> when asked about the &#8220;discrepancy&#8221; during the VP debate last week against his GOP rival Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jd-vance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JD Vance</a> (R-OH). Walz also said he &#8220;misspoke&#8221; when pressed further.
Like in the &#8220;Saturday Night Live&#8221; <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disgusting-team-trump-rips-saturday-night-live-for-joke-about-assassination-attempts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">season premier a week ago</a>, cast member Bowen Yang played Vance while alumni Maya Rudolph and Andy Samberg returned to portray Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, respectively. Former cast member Dana Carvey also made another appearance as President Joe Biden.
At one point, Rudolph&#8217;s Harris nervously drank a glass of wine while watching the VP debate. Samberg&#8217;s Emhoff assured her Walz would not say anything &#8220;crazy.&#8221; Then, after showing Gaffigan&#8217;s Walz saying, &#8220;I&#8217;ve become friends with school shooters,&#8221; Rudolph&#8217;s Harris crushed her glass in horror.

Walz actually <a href="https://x.com/realDailyWire/status/1841301645373689908" target="_blank" rel="noopener">made that comment</a> during the real CBS debate while responding to a question about why flip-flopped on his prior support for an &#8220;assault weapons ban&#8221; over the course of his political career.
The VP candidate later sought to clarify his statement, <a href="https://x.com/JulieNBCNews/status/1841551377144697254" target="_blank" rel="noopener">telling NBC News</a>, “I was talking about meeting people where there are school shooters, and I need to be more specific on that. But I am passionate about this. This one, for my wife and I, is just, as teachers, as parents, is so personal.&#8221;

Senator <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jd-vance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">J.D. Vance</a> (R-OH) revealed the hilarious “Boss Man” game his kids have been playing since he became former President Donald Trump’s running mate.
On Thursday, Vance sat down with the guys on “The Ruthless” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi3Z6tqVrNw">podcast</a> for his first post-<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-vp-debate-moderators-blasted-for-fact-checking-vance-and-cutting-his-mic" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vice presidential debate</a> interview to talk about how this election compares to when he ran and won his Senate seat in 2022 and how much his life has changed since Trump put him on the ticket. Vance said he’s gotten calls from friends asking how he’s doing, noting all the traveling he and Trump have been doing to reach voters before the election.
“You know, I&#8217;m honestly having a great time and the fact that I get to bring my kids with me on some of this stuff is very cool,” Vance said. “But honestly, when I ran for Senate [in the] state of Ohio … I&#8217;d ride around in Patrick&#8217;s used Subaru, driving five hours to Youngstown and then back to Cincinnati.”
“Now I fly in a 737 with my kids, like, it&#8217;s a much easier life to run for vice president actually than it is to run for the Senate,” he added. “So, you&#8217;re never going to hear me complain about it.&#8221;
The podcast hosts asked Vance’s if his three kids (ages 7, 4, and 2) understand what’s happening, and he joked they have no idea, pointing to a game his kids have started playing at school, which they call “Boss Man.”

“The best part is, you know, the kids have a secret service detail now,” Vance said. “We learned from one of my son’s friends, his parents were like, ‘Do you know the kids play this game in school called ‘boss man?’ And I was like, ‘No, what is boss man?’”
“He&#8217;s like, &#8216;Well, it&#8217;s where one kid walks down the hallway flanked by four other kids on each side,’” he added. “So, they kind of get, like, that part of it &#8212; at least my seven-year-old does.”
At one point, Vance also addressed his viral “Jim from The Office” moment from the VP debate.
“The one thing I didn&#8217;t realize, this thing that&#8217;s gone super viral of me kind of doing the ‘Jim from The Office’ thing looking into the camera,” Vance said. “I wish I could take credit for it, but it&#8217;s because the, I guess the timer is right by the camera, so I was just, you know, I was trying to, like, pay attention to what he&#8217;s saying.”
“But then you have to be ready for when his time&#8217;s up because then it&#8217;s your turn to speak,” he added. “And so I was looking at the timer figuring … it spawned a million viral memes. So I&#8217;m glad they did it like that.”

For all the differences between the presidential and vice presidential debates, there was one glaring similarity: the moderators weren&#8217;t able to keep their mouths shut. In the first debate, the rules allowed the moderators to &#8220;fact-check,&#8221; whatever that means exactly. In the second debate, the rules didn&#8217;t allow &#8220;fact-checking.&#8221; But in both cases, the moderators couldn&#8217;t help themselves. They weighed in, over and over again. And every single time, they interjected to help whatever Democrat was standing at the podium. And the format of these &#8220;fact-checks&#8221; was always the same, too. The moderators would wait for Donald Trump or JD Vance to stop speaking. Then they&#8217;d hastily recite a rehearsed, one-line &#8220;correction.&#8221; And then they&#8217;d immediately try to change the subject so that Trump or Vance couldn&#8217;t respond.
This would be disgraceful even if these moderators were telling the truth. The whole point of a debate is to hear from the candidates, not the moderators. But even if you disagree on that point — even if you think it&#8217;s good for the moderators to intervene when they think a candidate is lying — it&#8217;s still not clear why they would refuse to let the candidates respond to their &#8220;fact checks.&#8221; This wasn&#8217;t an accident; it was how they approached every single one of these fact checks, across two debates and two sets of moderators. And it&#8217;s worth figuring out why that is.
It could be that many on the Left don&#8217;t engage in any kind of critical thought anymore. They just look at the consensus view — as reflected by the &#8220;fact check&#8221; — and declare no further questioning is allowed. They genuinely can&#8217;t conceive of a situation in which the consensus might be mistaken. On the other hand, it could also be that, in this context, the moderators realized their &#8220;fact-checks&#8221; would fall apart under any form of scrutiny. And indeed, with every day that passes, that&#8217;s exactly what&#8217;s happening. One by one, every single one of these &#8220;fact-checks&#8221; from these two debates is collapsing.
These are not small errors I&#8217;m referring to. Take for example this moment from the debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Trump was asked about his position on abortion, and he gave a long answer. And then the moderator, Linsey Davis, fired off a one-line fact-check before pivoting immediately to Kamala Harris. Watch:

At the time, a lot of people pointed out the obvious problem with this fact-check. Donald Trump never actually said that it was legal to kill babies after they were born. But he did say it was happening. And he cited a very specific and well-known piece of evidence: The former governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, strongly suggested to a radio show in 2019 that in certain cases, such as &#8220;fetal abnormalities,&#8221; his bill would <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/world/fact-check-virginia-governors-2019-comments-about-abortion-bill-are-missing-co-idUSKBN27D2GS/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allow doctors</a> to kill children after they&#8217;re born:
<blockquote>If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.</blockquote>
Defenders of Ralph Northam recognized how demonic this quote is. So for the past several years, they have insisted that he wasn&#8217;t talking about euthanizing children who survived failed abortions. And they claimed the governor wasn&#8217;t actually talking about allowing newborn infants to die for no medical reason, either. Presumably, that&#8217;s the spin Linsey Davis had in mind when she corrected Donald Trump during this debate. She declared, with authority, that there is &#8220;no state&#8221; in the entire country where it&#8217;s legal to kill children after they&#8217;re born.
What was missing from her fact check is what John Solomon at Just The News has now <a href="https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/elections/tueaftwalzs-history-born-alive-abortions-opens-door-trump-gop-flip" target="_blank" rel="noopener">proven</a> — which is that children are being born alive in this country, and then doctors are allowing them to die without even attempting any life-saving intervention. It turns out that, until 2023, the state of Minnesota kept records on how many infants were born alive during failed abortions. Those records showed that from 2019 to 2021 — during Tim Walz&#8217;s tenure as governor — at least eight infants were born alive following a botched abortion. Not a single one of these infants received &#8220;life-saving care.&#8221; Two infants in 2021 received &#8220;comfort care.&#8221; All eight of the children died.
None of the doctors involved were ever investigated or charged for any of this — even though, at the time, Minnesota law <a href="https://www.ncregister.com/news/tim-walz-born-alive-abortion">required</a>, “responsible medical personnel” to use “[a]ll reasonable measures consistent with good medical practice” to “preserve the life and health of the born alive infant.”
But just to cover his bases, Tim Walz changed the law in 2023. Now the law doesn&#8217;t require lifesaving measures at all for infants who survive abortions. Instead it requires that doctors &#8220;care for the infant who is born alive,&#8221; without specifying exactly what that care entails. The law also gets rid of the reporting requirement for the state health agency, so no one can learn how many children are being killed — or allowed to die — after they&#8217;re born.

If you look at the records Solomon found, you can see why Democrats might want to cover them up. They&#8217;re as ghoulish as you can imagine. Here&#8217;s the <a href="https://justthenews.com/sites/default/files/2024-08/MNAbortionReportJuly2020.pdf">July 2020 report</a> from Minnesota, for example.
<blockquote>In one instance, fetal anomalies were reported but residual cardiac activity was present at 2 minutes. Care of fetus was transferred to the second medical doctor. No measures taken to preserve life were reported and the infant did not survive. &#8230; In one instance, comfort care measures were provided as planned and the infant did not survive. &#8230; In one instance, the infant was pre-viable. No measures taken to preserve life were reported and the infant did not survive.</blockquote>
Notice the <a href="https://justthenews.com/sites/default/files/2024-08/MNAbortionReportJuly2020.pdf">report</a> doesn&#8217;t even bother to clarify whether lifesaving measures could have saved some of these infants. That&#8217;s not a piece of information the health department decided to track, for some reason. But the report is very clear on the fact that children who survived abortions were consistently allowed to die in the state of Minnesota without any attempt by a doctor to save them. &#8220;No measures taken to preserve life&#8221; is a consistent theme here. You don&#8217;t get any more information than that. And rather than provide any more transparency on this point, the state, under Tim Walz, has gone ahead and shut down record-keeping entirely.
The Dispatch looked into this reporting, and <a href="https://thedispatch.com/article/claims-about-children-born-alive-after-abortion-attempts-in-minnesota-are-true/">they confirmed</a> it&#8217;s all accurate.
<blockquote>[Charlie] Kirk and Solomon’s claims are correct. Minnesota Department of Health documents show that eight infants were born alive during abortion procedures between 2019 and 2022, and, in 2023, Walz signed legislation that repealed most of a statute designed to protect infants born alive after an abortion attempt.</blockquote>
So the truth is that Linsey Davis either has no idea what she was talking about, or she was deliberately lying. Either way, it&#8217;s beyond reprehensible that no mainstream media organization in this country has bothered to do any investigative reporting on this topic. Apparently, only John Solomon is interested in the question of whether or not children are being systematically killed — or &#8220;allowed to die&#8221; — after they&#8217;re born. The most we can expect from ABC is a drive-by &#8220;fact-check&#8221; during a presidential debate with a lot of snark and no substance whatsoever.
To get a sense of how big the problem is, I went back and looked at every single fact-check from these two debates. And every single one of them was either obviously false or extremely misleading. I already <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ep-1449-the-matt-walsh-show">covered</a> the FBI&#8217;s crime numbers, which supposedly show that violent crime is down. The moderator, David Muir, cited those statistics in his &#8220;fact-check&#8221; without providing any context — including the missing law enforcement agencies who didn&#8217;t report data, or the DOJ&#8217;s report showing that crime has actually surged under the Biden-Harris administration. Then there was his claim that &#8220;no credible reports&#8221; indicated animals were being eaten in Springfield. Watch:

So the city manager says it&#8217;s not &#8220;credible&#8221; to suggest that domesticated animals are being killed in the &#8220;migrant community.&#8221; And the moderator and Kamala Harris mock Donald Trump for saying he saw those reports on television. It turns out that, back in March, the Springfield city manager himself did say that there were &#8220;quite a few&#8221; credible reports of &#8220;horrid things&#8221; happening to domesticated animals in Haitian communities in the town. So that&#8217;s another fact-check that was just a complete lie. And actually, Trump called it out in real-time. He said the city manager was probably just trying to give a political answer when ABC News called. And that&#8217;s exactly what was happening.
Let&#8217;s go down the list. There was also this fact-check from the other day:

This was another drive-by fact-check that the candidates weren&#8217;t allowed to respond to. And it&#8217;s also completely false, as I&#8217;ve outlined many times before. 
Here&#8217;s how Chris Martz — the same meteorology student I mentioned the other day — <a href="https://x.com/ChrisMartzWX/status/1841291822846370094" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded to</a> this particular fact-check.

Chris Martz, again, is a meteorology student. And he knows enough to check the actual data before he makes wildly false claims about what &#8220;scientists say.&#8221; So what exactly is the excuse of a major media organization for doing this, in front of 40 million people?
Whatever that excuse is, they&#8217;re still doing it, long after the debate is over. Around midnight, CBS News posted <a href="https://x.com/CBSNews/status/1841346121949401372" target="_blank" rel="noopener">this</a>:

The fact-check claims that Harris was just assigned to investigate the &#8220;root causes&#8221; of migration, rather than to oversee enforcement of the law. But if you pull up articles from CBS&#8217; own website, you&#8217;ll find out very quickly that they&#8217;re lying. Here&#8217;s <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/kamala-harris-immigration-lead-mexico-border-biden-administration/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an article</a> from 2021, for example.

At this point, I&#8217;m honestly looking for a single &#8220;fact-check&#8221; that pans out. From what I can tell, none of them have any validity whatsoever. It&#8217;s actually kind of incredible. And of course, there was no fact-check that was more incredible than this one, which I highlighted the other day:

This was egregious for all of the reasons that I&#8217;ve shown you. Yes, the moderators decided to break the rules to enter the debate on behalf of Kamala Harris. Yes, JD Vance was right that, to the extent these tens of thousands of Haitians are &#8220;legally&#8221; in the country, it&#8217;s only because the federal government has decided to bend the rules and award them mass amnesty. And yes, it&#8217;s comical that the moderator doesn&#8217;t fact-check Tim Walz&#8217;s claim that this has been going on, to the same extent, since the 90s.
But in retrospect, you can kind of see why the moderators decided to cut the microphones. After all, every single one of their fact-checks up to this point had been wrong. Some of them were called out in real-time, while others fell apart immediately on social media. And now, after all of that, they realized that yet another one of their fact-checks was blowing up in their faces. So they pressed the panic button.
At this point, the only viable solution is to eliminate moderators from future debates entirely. They&#8217;ve inserted themselves repeatedly into the discussion, only to spread falsehoods and confuse the issues. And they haven&#8217;t been wrong about insignificant topics, either. They&#8217;ve been wrong about whether illegal aliens are killing animals. They&#8217;ve been wrong about how many Americans are being victimized every year by violent criminals. And they&#8217;ve been wrong about whether children are being allowed to die after they&#8217;re born. These &#8220;mistakes&#8221; only go in one direction for a reason, which is that they&#8217;re not mistakes at all. The truth is that there are very powerful forces in this country that want to enable these atrocities. And after these moderators are all discarded along with their useless &#8220;fact-checks,&#8221; we need to make sure those ghouls never hold power again.

After the conclusion of the vice presidential debate between Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jd-vance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JD Vance</a> (R-OH) and Minnesota Democratic Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-walz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tim Walz</a>, Harris&#8217; team released a <a href="https://x.com/JacquiHeinrich/status/1841318509176869011" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> that made another call for a second face-off against Trump before the November contest.
&#8220;Vice President Harris believes that the American people deserve to see her and Trump on the debate stage one more time. She will be in Atlanta on October 23 – Donald Trump should step up and face the voters,&#8221; said Harris campaign manager Jen O&#8217;Malley Dillon.

Back in June, CNN held the first 2024 general election presidential debate. Trump faced off against Biden, whose fumbling performance sparked a crisis of confidence among his allies. Biden then stepped aside under pressure.
When Harris became the Democratic Party&#8217;s nominee in early August, Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-hes-agreed-to-3-debates-on-3-different-networks-calls-harris-barely-competent">floated three debates</a> against her: a Fox News debate on September 4, an ABC News debate on September 10, and an NBC News debate on September 25.
Harris accepted the ABC debate, but her team <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/harris-accepts-only-one-debate-refuses-to-commit-to-more-against-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refused</a> to commit to a second one until after the first ended. When it did, Harris&#8217; team called for a second match in October. But, within a few days, Trump declared that he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-declares-he-wont-debate-kamala-again" target="_blank" rel="noopener">would not do another debate</a>. Harris <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/21/politics/presidential-debate-harris-trump-cnn/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accepted an invitation</a> for a CNN debate on October 23 in Atlanta anyway.
The suggested Fox News date was ultimately used for a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-hate-mosquitoes-trump-draws-laughs-with-impromptu-comparison" target="_blank" rel="noopener">town hall</a> with Trump and the NBC debate never happened. Harris&#8217; team also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/walz-dodges-cnn-debate-challenge-from-vance-harris-open-to-second-bout-against-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rejected</a> a dare by Vance to have Walz do a second VP debate hosted by CNN after the one held by CBS on Tuesday.
Polls show that Harris <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/19/us/politics/harris-trump-times-siena-poll-pennsylvania.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">performed better</a> in the ABC debate despite the moderators facing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abc-news-moderators-blasted-for-extreme-bias-fact-checking-trump-but-not-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">backlash</a> from the Right for how they dealt with Trump. Early <a href="https://x.com/CurtisHouck/status/1841329314064658701" target="_blank" rel="noopener">surveys</a> <a href="https://x.com/CBSNewsPoll/status/1841320255810847104" target="_blank" rel="noopener">indicate</a> Vance edged out Walz on Tuesday. The overall race <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/national_president/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">looks</a> <a href="https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/president-general/2024/national/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">close</a>.

‘Too Far Down The Line’: Trump Again Rebuffs Kamala’s Push For Another Debate

Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jd-vance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JD Vance</a> (R-OH) contended during the vice presidential <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/debates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">debate</a> on Thursday that censorship poses a &#8220;threat to democracy&#8221; and his Democratic Party rivals do not want to discuss it.
CBS News journalist Nora O&#8217;Donnell, a moderator in the debate, asked Vance if he would seek to challenge the results of the 2024 election after <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/09/10/vance-electors-2020-election-00178266" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggesting</a> he would not have certified the last presidential contest without alternate electors.
Vance argued that he and his running mate, former President Donald Trump, are &#8220;focused on the future.&#8221; He discussed unwinding the &#8220;inflation crisis&#8221; as an example.

Getting to the question at hand, Vance noted how Trump drew attention to &#8220;problems&#8221; in the 2020 election. Vance also said his personal stance was to debate those concerns &#8220;peacefully in the public square.&#8221;
After giving a reminder that Trump himself urged his supporters on January 6, 2021 — the day a Capitol riot disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election results — to &#8220;protest peacefully,&#8221; Vance turned his focus toward the current administration.
“I believe that we actually do have a threat to democracy in this country, but unfortunately, it&#8217;s not the threat to democracy that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz want to talk about. It is the threat of censorship,&#8221; Vance said.

Vance also said that Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the Democratic Party&#8217;s presidential nominee, has been &#8220;engaged in censorship at an industrial scale&#8221; over COVID-19 and other things.
The comment follows Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/zuckerberg-biden-harris-repeatedly-pressured-us-to-censor-free-speech" target="_blank" rel="noopener">saying</a> in a recent letter that the Biden-Harris administration &#8220;repeatedly pressured&#8221; his company to censor content related to COVID during the pandemic.
&#8220;That, to me, is a much bigger threat to democracy than what Donald Trump said when he said protesters should peacefully protest on January the 6th,&#8221; Vance added.

On Tuesday evening, the 2024 vice presidential hopefuls — Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-walz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tim Walz</a> (D-MN) and Senator JD Vance (R-OH) — squared off at CBS News headquarters in New York, and the critics came out in force to comment on Walz&#8217;s apparent discomfort.
Saagar Enjeti explained that Walz&#8217;s obvious nervousness was likely due at least in part to the fact that he has been hiding from media since he was selected to be Vice President Kamala Harris&#8217; running mate.

Minnesota Democratic Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-walz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tim Walz</a> called himself a &#8220;knucklehead&#8221; when pressed during the vice presidential <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/debates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">debate</a> on Tuesday about falsely claiming he was in Hong Kong during China&#8217;s Tiananmen Square massacre in the summer of 1989.
CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan, one of the debate moderators, noted how multiple news outlets reported that Walz did not actually travel to Asia until later that year after the protests.

During the middle of his response, which began with a backstory on why he traveled to China as a teacher, Walz eventually circled back to the question at hand.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve tried to do the best I can, but I&#8217;ve not been perfect and I&#8217;m a knucklehead at times,&#8221; Walz said after insisting that the community that elected him to office &#8220;knows who I am.&#8221;
Walz later said he would concede there are times when he &#8220;will talk a lot&#8221; and &#8220;get caught up in the rhetoric.&#8221;
The &#8220;knucklehead&#8221; comment elicited some mockery and other critiques on social media.
