Disgraced left-wing journalist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/dan-rather" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dan Rather</a> was mocked online late this week after panicking over <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/cnn" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN</a> cutting some of its most extreme left-wing voices from the network.
&#8220;What is going on at CNN? It’s a serious question,&#8221; Rather tweeted. &#8220;There is a lot of speculation on directives and motives. What’s really going on? And is it being noticed by the audience?&#8221;
Rather&#8217;s tweet comes after CNN <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-white-house-correspondent-john-harwood-out-at-network">parted</a> ways with hard-left White House Correspondent John Harwood this week following hyper-partisan remarks from Harwood, including a tweet in which Harwood claimed, &#8220;Biden&#8217;s assertion that Trump and extremist Republicans pose a threat to American democracy is, undeniably, true.&#8221;
Harwood’s departure comes weeks after former CNN “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter recorded his last show and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-brian-stelter-out-at-cnn-after-network-cancels-his-show" rel="noopener">exited</a> the network. Stelter’s exit reportedly came at the behest of CNN chief Chris Licht, who took over the network in February after Jeff Zucker’s exit. Licht has reportedly been driving CNN toward adopting a more nonpartisan stance in its news coverage.
Rather&#8217;s tweet was mocked online, including by Red State writer Jeff Charles, who responded, &#8220;Seeing lefties melt down over CNN&#8217;s pivot away from being a full-on propaganda mill for the Democratic Party is delicious.&#8221;
&#8220;Dan Rather thinks CNN has an audience,&#8221; radio host Joe Pags Pagliarulo tweeted. &#8220;That&#8217;s cute, Dan.&#8221;
&#8220;Methinks Dan’s guest spots on said network have expired,&#8221; Fox News media analyst Joe Concha responded.
Rather&#8217;s tweet did garner some support online, including from leftist Ameshia Cross, who claimed that CNN was &#8220;dying a shameful death.&#8221;
&#8220;They used to be a valid source,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;I grew up on the network. Today I&#8217;m ashamed of what they&#8217;ve become. &#8220;The fact is that basic journalistic steps were not carried out in a manner consistent with accurate and fair reporting, leading to countless misstatements and omissions in the reporting by 60 Minutes Wednesday and CBS News,&#8221; a panel appointed by CBS News <a href="https://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/tv/bal-te.to.cbs11jan11-story.html">said</a> in a scathing 224-page report about the episode.

Actor Alec Baldwin went so far as to label Cheney the &#8220;American Navalny,&#8221; referencing jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, calling her a &#8220;hero&#8221; in a video he shared on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/ChVA22JuBuM/">Instagram</a> before the loss was officially declared.
&#8220;Who is the American Navalny,&#8221; Baldwin asked, before answering his own question. &#8220;Liz Cheney reminds me of Navalny.&#8221; He also said she did what she had to do because &#8220;morally&#8221; she risked &#8220;it all&#8221; career wise to &#8220;tell the truth.&#8221;

The <a href="http://archive.mrc.org/profiles/rather/crisis.asp">Media Research Center</a> gave a summary of the scandal that ended with Rather&#8217;s resignation:
<blockquote>On September 8, 2004, Dan Rather cited “exclusive information, including documents” to justify major CBS Evening News and 60 Minutes stories alleging that George W. Bush shirked his duties when he was in the Texas Air National Guard in the 1960s and 1970s. Within a few hours of those documents being posted on CBS News’ Web site, however, typography experts voiced skepticism that the documents had actually originated with their alleged author and Bush’s former commanding officer, the late Lt. Colonel Jerry Killian.
As the evidence mounted, Rather stubbornly clung to the idea that his story was bulletproof, and he derided critics as partisans and Internet rumormongers. When he “apologized” on September 20, Rather would not concede that the documents were forgeries, only that he and CBS could “no longer vouch for their authenticity.” On November 23, 2004, CBS announced that Rather would soon be leaving his job as anchor of the CBS Evening News. An investigative report released on January 10, 2005 faulted CBS’s rush to put the flawed story on the air and their “stubborn” defense in the days that followed, but oddly decided that they could not blame partisan bias.</blockquote>
In May 2001, Rather appeared on Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor, where he insisted former President Bill Clinton was an honest man, leading to this exchange:

Appearing on the Feb. 7, 2002 Imus in the Morning radio show, Rather doubled down: “I think the fact that someone has told a lie, even a big lie or maybe several big lies over a lifetime, does not mean that they’re an inherently dishonest person&#8230;.I believe in redemption and that Bill Clinton – is he an honest person? I think he is an honest person. Did he lie? Yes, he lied, and on those occasions he was dishonest.”

In the last 24 hours a former Clinton administration press secretary has equated people who say “Let’s Go, Brandon” with ISIS members, ex-CBS News anchor Dan Rather has warned the phrase may lead to “violence,” and an NBC reporter has contacted the Secret Service to determine if novelty AR-15 parts bearing the anti-Biden phrase should be considered a threat to the president’s safety.
On Monday, MSNBC’s Joe Fryer boasted of “exclusive reporting on a dangerous way gun dealers are marketing their weapons including violent threats against President Biden.” <a href="https://palmettostatearmory.com/">Palmetto State Armory</a>, a South Carolina-based firearms supplier, <a href="https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-ar-15-letsgo-15-stripped-lower-receiver-pre-order-ships-in-approximately-10-12-weeks.html">offers customers</a> the lower part of an AR-15 engraved with the words “Let’s Go, Brandon” beneath a carving of what appears to be President Joe Biden with his arms outstretched above the checkered racing flag of NASCAR. Two other outlets have stocked AR-15 magazines with the phrase, one with a <a href="https://www.mysoutherntactical.com/PMAG-30-Round-ARM4-Lets-Go-Brandon_p_669.html">picture</a> of a mask-clad President Biden raising his index finger, the other bearing an <a href="https://culperprecision.com/product/lets-go-brandon-ar-15-magazine/">addled-looking caricature</a> of the president.
“Gun dealers are marketing weapon parts and ammunition using a right-wing slogan widely understood as code for profanity directed at President Joe Biden,” reported NBC News reporter Ken Dilanian, whom Fryer introduced.
“A spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, which investigates threats against the president, declined to comment,” Dilanian added. He concluded his report by saying, “The fact that a code phrase for profaning the U.S. president is being used to market guns and ammunition suggests that the rage on display on January 6 has not subsided.”
On Twitter, he continued equating the chanting of “Let’s Go, Brandon” with dangerous threats on Twitter. “I called the Secret Service about this. They had no comment,” Dilanian <a href="https://twitter.com/kendilaniannbc/status/1455245963673677835">tweeted</a>. When Twitter users mocked Dilanian for calling the Secret Service over a meme, Dilanian dug in his heels. “I called to ask the Secret Service whether they consider ‘F—Joe Biden’ emblazoned on an assault rifle to represent a security threat to the president. The firearms industry has little love for Biden who, as a senator, drafted a ban on so-called “assault weapons,” <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/americas-failed-attempt-to-ban-assault-weapons-11617285945">specifically including</a> the AR-15. The 1994 “crime bill” also banned the manufacture of new, “high-capacity” magazines, which contain more than 10 rounds.
Dilanian was joined by others who attempted to paint the use of a political slogan as a form of domestic terrorism.

A third media figure, former CBS News anchor Dan Rather, joined in the fray by saying the “chant perfectly encapsulates the rot and unseriousness of the Republican [P]arty &#8211; like the smart-aleck in the classroom who adds nothing but juvenile taunts and distractions.” He <a href="https://twitter.com/DanRather/status/1455155598790578186">wrote</a> in his Substack newsletter, “The unseemliness of this is so grotesque. … Immature vulgarity, fueled by bigotry, misogyny, sanctimony, privilege, unseriousness, flippancy, and ignorance, is what is animating the former president, his base, and thus by extension the entire Republican party over which he rules.”
“This is more than just words,” Rather wrote. “Hateful speech has a way of becoming violent action.”

Their actions continue days of focused media condemnation of the phrase, which stands for “F*** Joe Biden,” which often bleeds over into a hateful caricature of the many people who have said it at sporting events and other venues.
CNN analyst Asha Rangappa compared the phrase to someone saying, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/southwest-airlines-pilot-says-lets-go-brandon-cnn-analyst-likens-remark-to-long-live-isis">Long Live ISIS</a>.” The Washington Post said the phrase — which has been chanted at sporting events and mass rallies of all kinds — proves President Biden has had to endure “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/is-anti-biden-criticism-really-far-more-vulgar-and-widespread-than-any-other-president">far more vulgar and widespread</a>” criticism than any other recent president.

NBC Reporter Asks Secret Service If ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ AR-15 Part Is Threatening

In what seems like an article written by the satirical website The Babylon Bee, the University of Texas-Austin’s Moody College of Communications (MCC) has announced a journalism award named after disgraced news anchor Dan Rather.
Rather famously “retired” after reporting on unverified documents purporting to show that President George W. Bush received preferential treatment and served poorly during his time in the Air National Guard. Rather presented the documents as authentic and defended them even as other media outlets noted issues with the memos. The phrase “fake but accurate” was born from this scandal.
Despite this, Rather has enjoyed a pretty decent comeback in the past decade, routinely being brought on as a journalism expert for left-leaning networks. He is also a member of the MCC’s advisory board. In Rather’s <a href="https://moody.utexas.edu/alumni/advisory-council/dan-rather">biography</a> on its website, the MCC completely ignores the scandal, instead discussing his career before and after it. Bush is only mentioned once in the biography, among a list of presidents that Rather had interviewed.
Now the MCC is naming a journalism award after the company Rather founded in 2006 – two years after the scandal. The company is called News and Guts, and the MCC is calling its new award the Dan Rather Medals for News and Guts.

Democratic nominee Joe Biden, left-leaning activists, and sympathetic media figures are now pressing the idea that Republicans filling vacancies on the federal court and confirming conservative judges constitutes &#8220;court packing,&#8221; despite such actions having nothing to do with actually &#8220;packing&#8221; the Supreme Court.
After dodging questions on whether he supports adding seats to the Supreme Court in order to counteract conservative influence, especially if judge Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed in the next several weeks, Biden accused Republicans of &#8220;unconstitutional&#8221; behavior and &#8220;packing&#8221; the court themselves.
&#8220;The only court packing that’s going on right now is going on with Republicans,&#8221; Biden insisted.
Court-packing, of course, has a very specific definition. As <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-radical-left-democrats-pushing-biden-to-pack-the-supreme-court">The Daily Wire noted Sunday</a>, the practice, which originated with President Franklin Delano Roosevelt through the Judicial Procedures Reform Bill of 1937, involves appointing &#8220;up to six additional justices to the Supreme Court for every justice older than 70 years, 6 months, who had served 10 years or more.&#8221;
&#8220;The U.S. Constitution set up America’s high court but did not establish how many justices should serve, leaving that up to Congress,&#8221; the Daily Wire&#8217;s Joseph Curl noted. &#8220;The Judiciary Act of 1789 put the number at six; that number rose to seven in 1807 and to nine in 1837. The number rose to 10 in 1863, then dropped back down to seven in 1866. In 1869, Congress raised the number of justices to nine, where it has stood ever since.&#8221;
But Democrats are now pressing the line that confirming judges to open seats &#8212; particularly conservative judges &#8212; constitutes &#8220;court packing,&#8221; and the memo has gone out not only to competing politicos but also to left-leaning activists and sympathetic media figures.
Sam Berger, the vice president of the far-left Center for American Progress, tried to establish &#8220;conservative court packing&#8221; with a chart comparing how many judges former President Barack Obama appointed in comparison to how many President Donald Trump confirmed with the aid of a friendly Senate led by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
&#8220;Conservative court packing in one chart,&#8221; Berger claimed. &#8220;Conservatives’ stealth court-packing plan[.] Step 1: Steal seats by blocking confirmation of judges until WH and Senate are under conservative control. Step 2: Change the rules to appoint the most partisan conservative judges at breakneck speed.&#8221;

The Republican Senate, of course, refused to confirm judges appointed by a political rival, Obama. When Republicans regained control of the White House, the Senate confirmation process moved swiftly for those seats vacated during Obama&#8217;s second term. That is, after all, how the two party process works.
Retired Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) made the process easier, deciding early on in Obama&#8217;s tenure that the Senate should do away with the &#8220;supermajority&#8221; required to confirm judges, clearing the way for Republicans to confirm hundreds of appointees later on.
Former newsman Dan Rather tried to weigh in himself, attacking Republicans for packing the courts by refusing to confirm Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court in 2016.

That&#8217;s still, of course, not &#8220;court packing.&#8221; Garland did not receive a hearing, paving the way for Trump to appoint his own justice immediately upon taking office, but to a vacant &#8212; not additional &#8212; Supreme Court seat.
The Washington Post&#8217;s Ruth Marcus went one step further, suggesting that not only was Trump prohibited from filling the seat left empty by Justice Antonin Scalia&#8217;s untimely death but that Trump was not &#8220;entitled&#8221; to fill the seat left vacant by Justice Anthony Kennedy&#8217;s retirement.

Again, both seats were vacant, not added to the Supreme Court, but the purpose appears to be to muddy the definition of &#8220;court packing&#8221; for a public that is not perfectly educated on American civics.
President Donald Trump fired back at Democrats Sunday, accusing the &#8220;far-left&#8221; of holding Biden hostage to the idea of packing the Supreme Court with additional members if Barrett is confirmed. Her Senate confirmation hearings begin on Monday.

Dan Rather, the former journalist who resigned from CBS for pushing a false news story critical of President George W. Bush&#8217;s service in the National Guard, has called upon the mainstream media to report their interpretation of President Trump&#8217;s beliefs and as not what he actually says.
According to <a href="https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/kristine-marsh/2019/08/06/rather-demands-press-psychoanalyze-trump-instead-report-his-words">Newsbusters</a>, Rather appeared on CNN Monday night, where he told host Don Lemon that the press needs to start psychoanalyzing what the president says. The conversation stemmed from a tweet that Rather shared earlier in the day.
&#8220;To my fellow members of the press, I suggest we refrain from quoting the president&#8217;s words from prepared speeches into headlines and tweets without context. He sometimes says the right thing. The real questions are what he does and what he really believes,&#8221; tweeted Rather.

So if President Trump were to stand up on national television to condemn white supremacy, as he did on Monday, the media should psychoanalyze that instead of merely report what he said. When pressed about this opinion by Don Lemon, Rather was quite content in his interpretation of President Trump&#8217;s beliefs.
&#8220;What does he [Trump] really believe?&#8221; asked Lemon.
&#8220;Fear conquers,&#8221; Rather replied.
Rather then recalled his days of covering the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s, and how he framed it as a matter of right and wrong:

It was clearly definitively right and wrong. That was the truth of the situation. Then and now it&#8217;s the job of journalists not to try to hide or obscure but to speak the truth, and that&#8217;s where we are now. People say, well, I&#8217;m not sure President Trump is racist, but racist is as racist does.
Any time he tries to speak about hope or compassion, it&#8217;s about as authentic as a Times Square Rolex.</blockquote>
Lemon said that he took issue with just flatly calling President Trump a &#8220;racist,&#8221; but concluded that evidence leads one to say that.
&#8220;It did not come lightly or easily for me to say, &#8216;The President of the United States is a racist,'&#8221; Lemon said. &#8220;[B]ut in journalism, journalists work with facts and with evidence. And all one has to do is look at the evidence.&#8221;
&#8220;Well, exactly. It’s speaking truth!&#8221; Rather replied.

Don Lemon, of course, has taken his condemnations of President Trump to new heights this election cycle, referring to him as a &#8220;racist&#8221; during the Democratic Party presidential debates and even <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/48607/watch-cnns-don-lemon-compares-trump-hitler-hank-berrien">comparing him to Hitler</a> on his own program.
&#8220;But think about the despicable people we’ve had in history,&#8221; Lemon said in June. &#8220;Now I’m going to use an extreme example. Think about Hitler. Think about any of those people. Would you say that that person is allowed — let’s put it this way — if you could look back on in history would you say, &#8216;well, I’m so glad that that person was allowed a platform so that they could spread their hate and propaganda and lies&#8217;? Or would you say it probably wasn’t the right thing to do to spread that because you knew in the moment that that was a bad person. And they were doing bad things. Not only were they hurting people. They were killing people. &#8230;&#8221;

Dan Rather was once the anchor of the evening CBS News broadcast. He got the job in 1981, filling the very large shoes left by the avuncular Walter Cronkite.
He did everything to embiggen himself, but in the end, he crashed and burned for a heavy partisanship that blinded him.
In a nutshell, here&#8217;s what happened: Trying to derail George W. Bush&#8217;s presidency and his re-election bid &#8212; and searching for a Watergate-sized blockbuster &#8212; Rather aired a completely false story about Bush&#8217;s time in the Texas Air National Guard. He was fired and left journalism in disgrace.
The 86-year-old has sought to reframe himself ever since. Mostly, he&#8217;s just parroted the Democratic talking points and toed the liberal line.
So it is hilarious that The King of Fake News is now calling out President Trump for complaining about fake news.

King Of Fake News Dan Rather Blasts Trump For Complaining About Fake News

Interviewed by CNN&#8217;s Don Lemon, who claimed President Trump has lied over 2,000 times since he took office, former CBS anchor Dan Rather <a href="http://thehill.com/homenews/media/399355-dan-rather-trump-criticism-of-media-is-straight-out-of-orwell">opined</a> that President Trump&#8217;s statements about the media and his attacks on them are &#8220;straight out of Orwell.&#8221;
Rather started by huffing, &#8220;Truth is the currency of democracy.&#8221;
That statement certainly rang hollow, since Rather was <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/04/dan-rather-fake-news/">fired by CBS</a> after Rather&#8217;s team, in collusion with John Kerry&#8217;s campaign, aired unverified documents in 2004 about George W. Bush&#8217;s National Guard service.
Rather called Trump &#8220;authoritarian,&#8221; saying Trump wants Americans to believe that &#8220;the one and only truth comes from him.&#8221; When Lemon mentioned Trump stating, &#8220;Don&#8217;t believe what you see or what you hear, that&#8217;s not what&#8217;s happening,&#8221; Rather responded, &#8220;It&#8217;s straight out of Orwell &#8230; Orwell, what he wrote, it&#8217;s practically a shooting script for Donald Trump. &#8230; There is a method to this, and the method is to convince people that the only truth is the truth that comes from me, the ultimate power &#8230; As several people have said before me, he is not just attacking the truth, he wants to annihilate the truth. He wants to move us completely into the post-truth political era in which there&#8217;s no such thing as objective facts. He is the only fact.&#8221;
Rather claimed there &#8220;has been some desperation&#8221; in Trump&#8217;s recent attacks, adding, &#8220;And as he gets more desperate he takes bigger risks in telling bigger lies or more often telling lies. And telling people, &#8216;Look, don&#8217;t believe what you read or see anywhere else, just come to me. I have the ultimate truth, I am the way,&#8217;&#8221;
What is ironic about Rather&#8217;s remark is that in Orwell&#8217;s &#8220;1984,&#8221; Big Brother uses the media to control the masses. That is far more similar to the Barack Obama years, when the media acted like lapdogs for Obama. Trump targeting the media is precisely the opposite of 1984.
Yet Rather describes Trump&#8217;s actions as Orwellian . . .

Dan Rather: Trump’s Attacks On Media ‘Straight Out Of Orwell’

Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather tried to attack President Donald Trump at the start of the week and ended up giving him a possible campaign slogan to use, calling him &#8220;mean as a wolverine.&#8221;
Appearing on &#8220;CNN Tonight&#8221; with host Don Lemon, Rather weighed in on the current state of political polarization in the United States.
After saying that he had never seen anything like Trump, Rather said, &#8220;President Trump gives every indication by what he says and what he does and what he doesn&#8217;t do, that he&#8217;s mean as a wolverine, and we&#8217;ve never had a president who had that reputation.&#8221;
Rather&#8217;s comment was taken as a positive by Trump supporters who thought it would make a cool campaign slogan.

Everyone&#8217;s got an opinion on President Trump uninviting the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles to the White House.
Some who criticize the move make <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/31449/trump-wrong-disinvite-eagles-hes-even-more-wrong-ben-shapiro">rational arguments</a>, while others are just . . . out there.
Like Dan Rather. The disgraced former newsman thinks Trump&#8217;s decision is &#8220;akin to McCarthyism.&#8221; Oh, and Puerto Rico! Plus, global warming!
In a weird post on Twitter, Rather covered a lot of topics. &#8220;Trump disinvites Eagles from White House &#8211; while millions of Americans hurt. Puerto Rico suffers. Allies fret. The planet warms. He uses our National Anthem to sow disunity in what&#8217;s supposed to be the UNITED States of America. I think history will mark it as akin to McCarthyism,&#8221; Rather wrote late Monday.

So, just to be clear, Trump deciding to uninvite the Eagles (in a supreme diss, fewer than 10 players were planning to show up), is comparable to McCarthyism, when Sen. Joe McCarthy persecuted suspected communists in America, leading to blacklists and ending as a very dark blot on the nation&#8217;s history.
Uh, yeah, OK.

Dan Rather On Trump Uninviting Eagles: ‘Akin To McCarthyism’

Disgraced CBS anchor Dan Rather took to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/theDanRather/posts/10160239588295716?comment_id=495711600844713&amp;notif_id=1522718256900654&amp;notif_t=feed_comment">Facebook</a> to whine about the recent so-called controversy surrounding a video of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/28943/media-go-nuts-after-sinclair-local-hosts-all-read-ben-shapiro">Sinclair Broadcast</a> reporters reading a synchronized script asking viewers to hold them accountable in the era of fake news. 
&#8220;Let&#8217;s be clear, news anchors looking into [the] camera and reading a script handed down by a corporate overlord, a script meant to obscure the truth not elucidate it, isn&#8217;t journalism. It&#8217;s propaganda. It&#8217;s Orwellian. And it is on a slippery slope towards some of history&#8217;s most destructive forces. These are the means by which despots wrest power, silence dissent, and oppress the masses,&#8221; Rather wrote.
Rather connects the video to President Donald Trump, citing that the owners of Sinclair are Republicans who support the White House administration. 
&#8220;To those who say this rhetoric is hyperbolic, I submit that attacking the press as honest brokers of information has been one of the constants of this Administration and all those who normalize it,&#8221; Rather vigorously opined. &#8220;But this is not normal. This is not how the freedoms enshrined in our Constitution, that beloved First Amendment, is supposed to operate,&#8221; he said.
Dan Rather&#8217;s indignation is ironic. He was forced out of his anchoring job at CBS &#8220;Evening News&#8221; in 2004, when he and his producer Mary Mapes ran a false story concerning former President George W. Bush&#8217;s Texas Air National Guard service record. 
He currently hosts the &#8220;The News With Dan Rather&#8221; on the far left media network The Young Turks.
