Tesla is rolling out its robotaxis in Dallas and Houston, the electric vehicle maker said on Saturday, marking further expansion of its nascent service in the United States since its Austin, Texas, launch last year.
Tesla&#8217;s official robotaxi account on X announced the launch and posted two videos showing its best-selling Model Y SUVs running in the two cities with no human driver or monitor in the front seats.
It posted two map images outlining service boundaries, but did not disclose further details such as fleet size or pricing.
&#8220;Try Tesla Robotaxi in Dallas &amp; Houston!&#8221; CEO Elon Musk said reposting the X post.
Tesla&#8217;s move comes as the robotaxi business has regained momentum with Alphabet&#8217;s Waymo and Amazon&#8217;s Zoox speeding up expansion.
Expanding the robotaxi service and wider adoption of its full self-driving software, a version of which underpins the technology, is key to Tesla&#8217;s growth strategy as Musk has pivoted the company&#8217;s focus to artificial intelligence and robotics from EVs.
Much of the company&#8217;s $1.3 trillion valuation hinges on that bet.
Tesla first deployed a small group of self-driving taxis in an area of Austin with human safety monitors and other restrictions. The company has since widened the service area and started removing the monitors.
Last year, Tesla also started a ride-hailing service in the San Francisco Bay Area. Musk has promised to expand the robotaxi service rapidly in the U.S., but missed earlier predictions of its robotaxis operating widely in multiple U.S. metro areas by the end of 2025.

A man shot and killed by Dallas police during a SWAT standoff this week had previously served as a security guard for Rep. Jasmine Crockett, according to multiple law enforcement sources.
Dallas police tracked the suspect, who went by different aliases — but was going by the name Mike King — to a parking garage at Children&#8217;s Medical Center Dallas late Wednesday night, Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said during a press conference Thursday morning.

Officers located the man barricaded inside a vehicle in the garage. After deploying tear gas to force him out, police say the suspect emerged and pointed a gun at SWAT officers.

Multiple law enforcement sources have confirmed to <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/texas/news/dallas-police-killing-raises-questions-about-congresswoman-security/">CBS News</a> that the suspect had been operating under several aliases and was known publicly as Mike King. He allegedly ran a company called “Off Duty Police Services,” which connected North Texas police officers with off-duty security jobs. The Daily Wire reached out to a company of that name in the Dallas area for comment to confirm the claim, but did not receive a response.
Sources say the man was wanted for allegedly impersonating a law enforcement officer and had claimed to be one while operating the business. <a href="https://x.com/CollinRugg/status/2032621347978068016">Images</a> obtained by reporters show King standing close to Crockett at public events and on the campaign trail during her recent run for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat.
Law enforcement sources also said King oversaw teams of security officers working at several downtown Dallas hotels and events, and that he frequently drove a replica undercover police vehicle. Authorities say the vehicle allegedly used stolen license plates taken from cars outside a military recruiting office.
Federal Election Commission receipts <a href="https://www.fec.gov/data/disbursements/?data_type=processed&amp;committee_id=C00795450&amp;two_year_transaction_period=2026&amp;disbursement_description=security">reviewed</a> by The Daily Wire show that a person identified as Mike King received payments from Crockett for “security services” as recently as last year.
Crockett’s office has declined to comment on the situation. The Dallas Police Department has also said it will provide additional information as the investigation continues.
The Texas Democrat, first elected to Congress in 2023, has been a prominent left-wing voice in the House and a frequent critic of Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers.
The incident raises questions about how the suspect, who authorities say had a criminal background and was using multiple aliases, was able to operate a business placing officers in off-duty security work and secure a role providing protection for a sitting member of Congress.

The FBI is hunting for an illegal immigrant from Honduras who is accused of ramming his truck into multiple Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicles during a traffic stop in Texas last month. 
Jerson Lopez-Sanchez, 28, is charged with three counts of assaulting or resisting federal officers, according to an indictment unsealed on Thursday in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Lopez-Sanchez is on the run, and the FBI has <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/additional/jerson-lopez-sanchez" target="_blank" rel="noopener">offered</a> a $15,000 reward for information that leads to his arrest and conviction. 
The incident unfolded on December 1 after ICE agents conducted a registration check of a Chevrolet Silverado carrying five people driving through Dallas. After determining that Lopez-Sanchez was in the country illegally, agents followed the truck and attempted to initiate a traffic stop in nearby Lewisville, Texas.

Three ICE vehicles surrounded the truck and prepared to conduct the stop when Lopez-Sanchez suddenly put his truck, which was loaded with ladders, in reverse and slammed it into a Jeep SUV driven by one of the ICE agents, according to the indictment. 
“The ICE agent in that SUV had one leg out of his vehicle and on the ground when the driver rammed the Jeep and jolted him backwards. This agent had to quickly jump back into his vehicle to avoid serious injury,” the indictment said. 
That action created enough space for Lopez-Sanchez to drive away, and a car chase began in a heavily populated area, the indictment said. As he drove away, Lopez-Sanchez also allegedly drove into a Chrysler van being driven by an ICE agent, injuring the agent’s knees and neck. 
The indictment said he “weaponized his 5,500-plus-pound vehicle and dangerously accelerated into the ICE agents in the Chrysler van, causing significant damage and smoke to rise from the hood, and also causing all front airbags to deploy.”
After a ten-minute pursuit, Lopez-Sanchez parked his truck in a median and fled. Three of the occupants were later arrested, but Lopez-Sanchez evaded law enforcement. 
The FBI wanted poster for Lopez-Sanchez lists him as being 5 &#8216;8&#8217;’ tall and weighing 165 pounds. His occupation was listed as a roofer. 
ICE agents have faced a sharp increase in vehicle attacks, <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2026/01/08/radical-rhetoric-sanctuary-politicians-leads-unprecedented-1300-increase-assaults">according</a> to the Department of Homeland Security. From January 21, 2025, to January 7, 2026, there have been 66 “vehicular attacks” targeting ICE, according to DHS. That is up from two the previous year during the same time frame.

Authorities nabbed an armed illegal immigrant after he allegedly placed a $10,000 bounty calling for the deaths of federal immigration agents in Dallas, Texas. Agents continue to face mounting threats all across the nation.
Mexican illegal immigrant Eduardo Aguilar called for “10 dudes in Dallas with determination who aren’t afraid to [two skull emojis],” and offered “10K for each ICE agent&#8221; in an Oct. 9 TikTok post, <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/10/17/criminal-illegal-alien-who-offered-10000-bounties-murder-ice-agents-arrested-dallas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Department of Homeland Security. The latest threat comes just weeks after a sniper opened fire on an ICE facility in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/two-injured-one-killed-in-shooting-at-dallas-ice-detention-center">Dallas</a>, killing two detainees despite intending to target federal agents.
Bounties have also been placed on federal officers during &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/over-1000-illegal-immigrants-arrested-in-trumps-operation-midway-blitz">Operation Midway Blitz</a>&#8221; in Chicago, with some amounting to $50,000. We are thankful this illegal alien who had a firearm in his possession was arrested before he could kill one of our law enforcement officers,” Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement on Friday.

Aguilar crossed the border illegally in 2018 as an unaccompanied minor before he was ordered deported by an immigration judge the next year, DHS said.
While in the U.S., Aguilar racked up a criminal history that includes liquor law violations. He is now charged with transmitting in interstate or foreign commerce a communication containing a threat.

The shooter also wrote that he “intended to maximize lethality against” them and “to maximize property damage at the facility,” while hoping “to minimize any collateral damage or injury to the detainees and any other innocent people,” Larson said.
“It seems that he did not intend to kill the detainees or harm them. It’s clear from these notes that he was targeting ICE agents and ICE personnel. The tragic irony… is that it was a detainee who was killed and two other detainees that were injured when he fired,&#8221; Larson said.
Garcia-Hernández&#8217;s wife, Stephany Gauffeny, called her husband&#8217;s death &#8220;a senseless tragedy.&#8221;
&#8220;My husband Miguel was a good man, a loving father, and the provider for our family,&#8221; Gauffeny said in a statement shared by LULAC. &#8220;We had just bought our first home together, and he worked hard every single day to make sure our children had what they needed. His death is a senseless tragedy that has left our family shattered. I do not know how to explain to our children that their father is gone.&#8221;

The first victim, later identified by <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/victim-active-shooter-attack-dallas-ice-field-office-identified" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ICE</a> as Salvadoran national Norlan Guzmán-Fuentes, 37, died the day of the attack.
Guzmán-Fuentes snuck across the border illegally and later turned up in Palm Beach County, Florida, where he was arrested for battery, improper exhibit of a firearm or dangerous weapon, and criminal mischief, according to ICE. All of the charges were dropped except for the criminal mischief charge.
He was later arrested in 2020 in Arlington, Texas, for a DWI, according to ICE. He later bonded out of custody before ICE could get their hands on him.
His latest arrest was on Aug. 25, when Dallas police arrested him for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and an outstanding DWI warrant, ICE said. The assault charge was dismissed on Sept. 10.
On Sept. 24, ICE arrested him at the local jail and &#8220;upon arrival to the ERO Dallas Field Office, ICE officers encountered an active shooter at the facility, targeting immigration officials,&#8221; the agency said.
&#8220;Regretfully, Guzman was one the victims of this tragic incident which resulted in his death,&#8221; ICE said.

“The evidence is clear that this was an intended assault on ICE personnel who come to work every day to do their job,” Marcos Charles, acting executive associate director for ICE’s enforcement and removal operations, said during Thursday’s presser detailing the officers&#8217; heroic conduct.
“Those ICE officers just showed the world who they really are: law enforcement officers who want the best for our country, that’s ICE integrity, courage, excellence. They were willing to put their lives on the line to pull detainees out of the transport van to get them to safety. They are heroes, and I hope the media has the integrity to shine a light on this story. Enough is enough with the harmful lies and rhetoric, and it has to stop,” he added.
The Dallas shooting was the latest attack against ICE agents and facilities. A group of leftist anarchists threw fireworks at an ICE facility just outside of Dallas in July to lure officers outside before opening fire, and shooting a police officer in the neck. Bratton Dean Wilkinson, a 36-year-old American citizen, showed up at the ICE facility in Dallas last month and announced that he was carrying a bomb in his backpack and flashed a “detonator” on his wrist, the agency said.

FBI Director Kash Patel earlier revealed that Jahn allegedly left <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ice-facility-shooter-left-bullet-casings-reading-anti-ice-at-attack-scene?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=ICE+Facility+Shooter+Left+Bullet+Casings+Reading+%E2%80%98ANTI-ICE%E2%80%99+At+Attack+Scene">bullet</a> casings engraved with the phrase “ANTI-ICE” on them, revealing the “ideological motive” behind the attack.
Patel also noted that the FBI found that Jahn “conducted multiple searches of ballistics and the ‘Charlie Kirk Shot Video&#8217;” in the days leading up to the shooting. The shooter used applications created to track ICE agents’ whereabouts and downloaded a list of Department of Homeland Security facilities before the attack, Patel said.
Jahn had planned the attack for “months,” Joseph Rothrock, the FBI Special Agent in Charge for Dallas, said Thursday.
ICE officers under fire worked to offload the injured detainees from agency vans as Jahn was firing, Marcos Charles, acting executive associate director for ICE’s enforcement and removal operations, said during Thursday’s presser.
“The evidence is clear that this was an intended assault on ICE personnel who come to work every day to do their job,” Charles said.
“Those ICE officers just showed the world who they really are: law enforcement officers who want the best for our country, that&#8217;s ICE integrity, courage, excellence. They were willing to put their lives on the line to pull detainees out of the transport van to get them to safety. Topline: A shooter opened fire at an ICE facility in Dallas on Wednesday, killing multiple immigrant detainees.
The gunman shot three detainees. Two of them died from their wounds. The shooter then turned the gun on himself and died at the scene.
Photos of the aftermath of the attack showed that bullets struck windows and walls inside the facility, but no law enforcement personnel were injured.
Federal law enforcement sources tell The Daily Wire that authorities believe that the shooter was trying to shoot at ICE officers when he aimed at an unmarked van. That van was holding illegal immigrant detainees who were being walked in for processing.
The shooter: Reports indicate the alleged shooter was 29-year-old Joshua Jahn. While not much is known about his history, authorities say he did give a glimpse into his motive after leaving shell casings behind, one engraved with the words “ANTI-ICE.” The FBI is investigating the targeted shooting, and the agency’s director, Kash Patel, says the casings prove that there was “an ideological motive” behind this attack.
Step back: The fatal shooting comes amid an uptick in left-wing violence targeting law enforcement and conservatives. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke about that during a press conference on Wednesday, where he called for his left-leaning colleagues in Congress to stop fanning the flames of the violence with their rhetoric.
“To every politician who is using rhetoric demonizing ICE and demonizing CBP, stop. To every politician demanding that ICE agents be doxxed and calling for people to go after their families, stop,” said Cruz. “This has very real consequences. Look, in America, we disagree. That&#8217;s fine. That&#8217;s the democratic process. But your political opponents are not Nazis. We need to learn to work together without demonizing each other, without attacking each other.”
<h2 style="text-align: center;">Biden Housing Bailout Sparks Racial Backlash</h2>

Topline: A $10 billion coronavirus-era housing bailout paid Americans&#8217; mortgages and even their HOA dues. But 40% of the funds went to black Americans, due to the program including explicit racial preferences.
Now, some white residents are suing their states, saying the government illegally withheld assistance from them based on their race.
The significance: This is one of the largest race-based government wealth transfers in history. And it happened because it came during the COVID pandemic, when the United States was hemorrhaging billions of dollars.
The program is called the <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/policy-issues/coronavirus/assistance-for-state-local-and-tribal-governments/homeowner-assistance-fund">Homeowner Assistance </a><a href="https://www.ncsha.org/homeowner-assistance-fund/">Fund</a>, and it provided people up to $50,000 to pay housing-related bills. It was passed by Congress and required about half the money to go to homeowners at or below the median income, while the remainder could be allocated to wealthier individuals, with priority given to “socially disadvantaged” homeowners.
“Socially disadvantaged?” Congress didn’t define it, and the program was run separately by each state, which received money after submitting a plan to the federal government. But the Biden administration heavily suggested a definition for the states to include in their plans: “those who have been subjected to racial or ethnic prejudice or cultural bias.”
The “presumption,” the administration said, is that “the following individuals are socially disadvantaged: Black Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.”
How it played out: In Alabama, 85% of the funds went to black residents. In Georgia, it was 82%. That’s surprising because, just based on the fact that half the money was supposed to be doled out based on income, you should have seen more people of other races. Only about half of Georgians below the median income are black. 
Plaintiffs in a lawsuit say that’s because Georgia deliberately ensured that white people didn’t even know it existed. The state’s plan included texting residents to inform them about this opportunity for $50,000 – but only residents of counties with high minority populations.
The Biden administration was never clear about the criteria, but many states used the definition provided by the Biden administration. Now, Georgia, Missouri, and Oklahoma are being sued by residents for going along with it, despite politicians in those states claiming to oppose DEI.
The lawsuits: In Missouri, the program was administered by a housing commission, where the governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general serve as commissioners. Missouri partnered with the Black Chamber of Commerce to advertise the program, and 44% of the money went to blacks, who make up less than 12% of the population. A spokeswoman for Missouri Republican Governor Mike Kehoe declined to comment on the ongoing litigation but called him “a strong advocate for removing DEI.”
In Oklahoma, plaintiffs include a massage therapist who was forced out of a job by COVID policies and her disabled-veteran husband. They point out that the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency said prominently on its website that “African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, [and] LGBTQ+” residents would get preference.

Topline: President Donald Trump canceled a meeting with Democratic congressional leaders this week to discuss government funding. The president blasted Democrats’ demands as “unserious and ridiculous” as government funding is set to expire at the end of the month.
The deadline to avert a partial government shutdown is September 30, giving lawmakers less than a week. House Republicans have already passed a clean, 7-week funding extension. However, the bill is currently stalled in the Senate. Even though the GOP holds the majority, Republicans need 60 votes, which means they need some Democrat support.
Trump had planned to meet this week with Democratic leaders – Sen. Chuck Schumer and Congressman Hakeem Jeffries – but scrapped the meeting over the Democrats’ demands. The president doubled down on Wednesday, writing on Truth Social that Democratic demands include free healthcare for illegal aliens, half a billion dollars for “Radical Left News Outlets,” leaving “DEAD PEOPLE on Medicaid and Social Security rolls,” and “men playing in women’s sports.” 
What Democrats are saying: Democrats say they won’t back down. Schumer and Jeffries have been on a media blitz this week following the meeting&#8217;s collapse. The main line of attack from Democrats is centered on healthcare.
“Republicans have engaged in an unprecedented assault on the healthcare of the American people throughout this year. The largest cut to Medicaid in American history. Millions of people are going to lose coverage because of what Republicans have done,” said Jeffries during an appearance on <a href="https://youtu.be/CLm2OIhjkUo?t=228">MSNBC</a>.
State of play: According to some reports, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) urged Trump to cancel the meeting. Congressional Republicans thought that Democrats were unserious and that meeting with them would only erode Republicans’ leverage.
Johnson sent the House into recess after it passed its 7-week extension, and he said he won’t recall lawmakers back to DC until after the September 30 deadline. If Democrats don’t agree to a clean bill, there will be a fight over who takes the blame for the shutdown.

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday night that he would deploy the National Guard &#8220;across the state&#8221; as anti-ICE protests hit major cities.
Protests against President Donald Trump&#8217;s illegal immigration crackdown started earlier this week in <a href="https://www.fox4news.com/news/dallas-joins-anti-ice-protests-immigration-crackdown-intensifies">Dallas</a> and <a href="https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/live-blog-ice-protest-at-texas-capitol/">Austin</a>, and more demonstrations are planned for San Antonio on Wednesday and Saturday. In a <a href="https://x.com/GregAbbott_TX/status/1932656855764861152">post</a> on X, Abbott said he was mobilizing the National Guard as a precautionary measure &#8220;to ensure peace &amp; order.&#8221;
&#8220;Peaceful protest is legal. Harming a person or property is illegal &amp; will lead to arrest,&#8221; the governor added. &#8220;@TexasGuard will use every tool &amp; strategy to help law enforcement maintain order.&#8221;
In Austin, the state&#8217;s capital, police used pepper spray and tear gas to disperse a group of protesters who were ignoring warnings to clear out of the street, KXAN Austin <a href="https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/live-blog-ice-protest-at-texas-capitol/">reported</a>. Officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Austin Police Department arrested more than a dozen people during the protest Monday night, according to Abbott. During the demonstration, a federal building where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) holds detainees was vandalized with messages reading, “ICE NEEDS 2 SURRENDER &amp; RELEASE THE HOSTAGES” and “MODERN DAY SLAVERY DISGUISED AS CRIMINAL REFORM.”
Six men arrested during the Austin demonstration were charged with felony criminal mischief, resisting arrest, among other offenses, according to the <a href="https://www.expressnews.com/news/article/abbott-deploys-national-guard-san-antonio-protests-20371032.php">San Antonio Express-News</a>.
&#8220;Peaceful protesting is legal. But once you cross the line, you will be arrested,&#8221; Abbott <a href="https://x.com/GregAbbott_TX/status/1932304416435998771">wrote</a> on social media early Tuesday morning, adding, &#8220;FAFO,&#8221; the acronym for &#8220;F*** Around and Find Out.&#8221;
The protest in Dallas on Monday turned &#8220;tense&#8221; as some demonstrators clashed with police officers, The Dallas Morning News <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/news/2025/06/09/protestors-in-dallas-rally-to-show-solidarity-with-la-demonstrators-amid-ice-crackdowns/">reported</a>. After sunset, authorities deployed pepper spray to disperse the crowd and appeared to make some arrests.
Texas National Guard troops will be on &#8220;standby in areas where mass demonstrations are planned in case they are needed,&#8221; according to Abbott&#8217;s office. Demonstrations, organized by a group called &#8220;No Kings&#8221; are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-issues-warning-to-any-protester-that-wants-to-come-out-during-d-c-military-parade">planned</a> for cities in all 50 states on Saturday as the U.S. Army will hold a massive parade in Washington, D.C., coinciding with the president&#8217;s birthday, with Trump in attendance.
Protests, some of which have turned into <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/anti-ice-riots-break-out-in-san-francisco-as-more-troops-deploy-to-l-a">riots</a>, have already popped up in cities across the country after anti-ICE rioters attacked law enforcement officers and damaged businesses and public property in Los Angeles last weekend. President Trump deployed the National Guard to L.A. on Saturday and then sent in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-sends-another-2000-national-guard-troops-to-l-a">reinforcements</a> days later, including 700 Marines, as he blasted Democrat officials, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass.
California then sued the Trump administration over the National Guard deployment, arguing that Trump infringed on Newsom&#8217;s power. Protests erupted in cities across the U.S. over the weekend as people hit the streets to voice opposition to President Donald Trump&#8217;s immigration policies as federal agents ramp up arrests and deportations.
Thousands of people blocked a section of the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles as they blasted Mexican music and danced in the streets on Sunday. Protesters waved Mexican and Salvadoran flags, and some carried signs that read, &#8220;MAGA — Mexicans Always Get Across,&#8221; “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you,” and “I drink my horchata warm because f— I.C.E,” The Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-02-02/thousands-of-protesters-rally-in-downtown-los-angeles-against-trump-deportation-policies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The L.A. protest lasted throughout the afternoon and evening before police in riot gear began dispersing the crowd around 7:00 p.m. The 101 Freeway was cleared and reopened by 8:00 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol said <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14352897/Thousands-block-LA-freeway-grammys-carrying-Mexican-flags-massive-Trump-protest.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no arrests</a> were made.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been conducting raids in cities across the country since Trump was sworn into office. In the first two weeks of Trump&#8217;s second term, ICE made more than 7,000 arrests, CBS Austin <a href="https://cbsaustin.com/news/nation-world/ice-makes-arrests-on-more-than-7400-illegal-migrants-since-trump-took-office-guantanamo-bay-pete-hegseth-secretary-of-defence-immigration-customs-enforcement-donald-trump-fbi-raids" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Last week, the president also directed the Department of Defense to use Guantanamo Bay to hold criminal illegal immigrants before they are repatriated to their home countries. Trump&#8217;s border czar Tom Homan <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2025/01/31/administration-access-immigrant-minors-data/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The Washington Post that the U.S. government would &#8220;hopefully&#8221; begin using Guantanamo Bay for illegal immigrants “within 30 days.&#8221;
Trump has made immigration a top priority, sending U.S. troops to the southern border and pressuring the country&#8217;s top trading partners — Mexico and Canada — to secure their sides of the border and stop unlawful crossings and drug trafficking. Over the weekend, Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and the two countries quickly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/canada-mexico-slap-tariffs-on-u-s-after-trump-uses-trade-to-force-border-security" target="_blank" rel="noopener">retaliated</a> with 25% tariffs on U.S. goods.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson announced last September that he was leaving the Democratic Party, saying it had lost its way. Now he&#8217;s under consideration for a prominent position in President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s cabinet, The Daily Wire has learned, and he may be forced to defend a surprisingly woke record.
Johnson is being pitched to lead the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, multiple Trump world sources told The Daily Wire. Earlier this month, he published a Fox News opinion piece titled &#8220;I’m the mayor of Dallas. My switch to the GOP last year should have been a wake-up call for Democrats.&#8221; In the piece, he says &#8220;voters are sick of a Democrat Party that prioritizes pandering over policy, political correctness over political action, and concern with personal identity over individuals’ real needs.&#8221;

And Johnson&#8217;s social media is littered with his criticisms of Trump&#8217;s policies, as well as promotion of gender ideology and the &#8220;Black Lives Matter&#8221; movement — <a href="https://x.com/Johnson4Dallas/status/1268942497956483073">including a proclamation</a> proclaiming June 5 as a George Perry Floyd Remembrance Day in Dallas.
In January 2017, Johnson <a href="https://x.com/Johnson4Dallas/status/826170875934281728">sent a letter</a> to Texas Governor Greg Abbott asking him to denounce Trump&#8217;s so-called &#8220;Muslim Ban.&#8221; In June 2017, he argued that former FBI Director James Comey <a href="https://x.com/Johnson4Dallas/status/872832285455921152">was far more credible</a> than Trump. In September 2017, he <a href="https://x.com/Johnson4Dallas/status/903762910769532929">mocked the notion</a> of &#8220;reverse racism&#8221; and critiqued Republicans&#8217; focus on affirmative action. In October 2017, he <a href="https://x.com/Johnson4Dallas/status/922317446127734784">claimed</a> that a Trump presidency is &#8220;everything we feared,&#8221; arguing, &#8220;stay woke,&#8221; and &#8220;resist.&#8221; In March 2018, he <a href="https://x.com/Johnson4Dallas/status/975853228553375744">praised Adam Schiff</a> for condemning the Austin bombings, claiming that Schiff was &#8220;saying and doing what our president [Trump] simply will not,&#8221; and tacking on the hashtag, #BLM.

He congratulated Trump on his &#8220;decisive victory&#8221; and said he was &#8220;looking forward to working with [Trump] to make Dallas and our nation safer, stronger, and more prosperous.&#8221; The Dallas Morning News reported on November 6 that Johnson was seen at Trump&#8217;s victory party on election night, <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2024/11/08/is-dallas-mayor-eric-johnson-angling-for-a-job-in-the-trump-administration/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter_dallasnews">questioning</a> whether Johnson was angling for a position within the Trump administration.  Mike Demkiw, executive director of the Republican Mayors Association, said at the time that Johnson was focused on continuing to serve Dallas.
Johnson also appears to be a staunch proponent of gender ideology, repeatedly arguing in defense of so-called &#8220;transgender youth,&#8221; meaning minor children who believe they are transgender, and he has <a href="https://x.com/Johnson4Dallas/status/924127555468382208">positively used the word</a> &#8220;woke&#8221; on a number of occasions as he describes his colleagues and friends.
&#8220;The [Texas legislature&#8217;s] bathroom bill forces vulnerable transgender Texans to be singled out and subject to further discrimination,&#8221; he <a href="https://x.com/Johnson4Dallas/status/892050310302224384">tweeted</a> in July 2017 with a transgender flag graphic that read &#8220;PROTECT TRANSGENDER YOUTH,&#8221; adding with a hashtag, &#8220;Y&#8217;all Means All.&#8221;
In another post made the same month, Johnson <a href="https://x.com/Johnson4Dallas/status/888404841269264393?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">posted a graphic</a> from the radical Southern Poverty Law Center and tagged a number of prominent LGBTQ groups that support transgender procedures for children, including Equality Texas, the Human Rights Campaign, and the ACLU of Texas.

When protestors filled the Texas Capitol in March 2017 to protest the legislation, which protected women&#8217;s spaces from men who identify as women, he tweeted, &#8220;I am proud of those standing up for Texas in opposition to the bathroom bill. This is what democracy looks like.&#8221;
In May 2018, he boasted in a social media post about his bill to &#8220;prohibit employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,&#8221; saying that the bill &#8220;made it further than it ever had in the legislature.&#8221;
&#8220;Next year,&#8221; he said, &#8220;I hope it will finally pass. LGBTQ Texans have waited long enough.&#8221;
As mayor, Johnson created an &#8220;anti-hate&#8221; advisory council in Dallas, <a href="https://www.fox4news.com/news/dallas-mayor-creates-anti-hate-advisory-council">arguing that</a> &#8220;nobody should feel uncomfortable or unsafe in Dallas because of who they are, because of their race or ethnicity, their sexual and gender identity, their religion or their national origin.&#8221; He <a href="https://dallascityhall.com/departments/office-of-equity-and-inclusion/human-rights/DCH%20Documents/PROC%20-%20International%20Transgender%20Day%20of%20Visibility%20PDF.pdf">even issued a proclamation in 2021</a> proclaiming an &#8220;International Transgender Day of Visibility&#8221; in the city.

The man accused of drinking four beers before crashing his car into an SUV and injuring several children in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/texas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Texas</a> last week is an illegal immigrant from Honduras, federal immigration officials told The Daily Wire. 
Dallas police arrested Jose Luis Castro Alvarado, 20, on Saturday after they said he ran a red light at around 10:00 p.m. and crashed into an SUV, seriously injuring six children. According to police, Alvarado allegedly admitted to police that he had consumed two beers before the crash, but a passenger in his vehicle said they each drank four beers just before the crash. 
One of the children injured, a 4-year-old child who was thrown out of the vehicle, is in critical condition, <a href="https://www.fox4news.com/news/driver-crash-sent-6-children-hospital-drank-4-beers-before-getting-behind-wheel-docs-say" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Fox 4. He suffered multiple fractures and a lacerated liver. An injured 5-year-old required jaw surgery. 
Alvarado, a citizen of Honduras, was <a href="https://www.dallascounty.org/jaillookup/defendant_detail?recno=72003DB0-48A0-CBCD-5D6B-523F944C9BFE&amp;bookinNumber=24040552&amp;bookinDate=1727620680000&amp;dob=2003-12-09&amp;lastName=CASTRO&amp;firstName=JOSE&amp;sex=Male&amp;race=White" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charged</a> with two counts of collision involving injury, two counts of collision involving serious bodily injury, and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle. He is currently being held at the Kays Tower detention center in Dallas.
A spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told The Daily Wire that Alvarado illegally entered the United States around September 22, 2021, near La Joya, Texas, which is about 500 miles south of Dallas. ICE said he entered “without being inspected, admitted, or paroled by an immigration officer.”

Alvarado cannot be released from prison because ICE placed a detainer on him after Dallas police took him into custody. 
Police said that Alvarado denied being under the influence of alcohol but that his eyes were bloodshot when they arrested him, according to an affidavit on the incident obtained by Fox 4. 
After the accident, investigators said that Alvarado ran from the scene, and a police K-9 located him hiding in the bushes in a nearby neighborhood. Police said he did not stop to check on the victims of the crash before fleeing. 
Earlier this year, the Republican-controlled House passed a <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/6976/all-actions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">measure</a> that would deport non-citizens convicted of DUIs, though the legislation stalled out in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
