WASHINGTON— The United States denied entry to a Somali World Cup referee because he associated with &#8220;suspected members of terror organizations,&#8221; The Daily Wire can first report.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said on Monday that Omar Artan had been denied entry after he arrived at Miami International Airport from Istanbul on Saturday.  Artan was set to officiate matches for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
A senior administration official told The Daily Wire on Tuesday evening that he was seeking admission to the United States, but, upon further inspection, Customs and Border Patrol discovered  &#8220;derogatory information,&#8221; including his &#8220;association with suspected members of terror organizations.&#8221;
That information made him ineligible for admission to the United States under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).
&#8220;The traveler was refused admission and given immigration forms that provide the section of law used to complete an expedited removal under 8235 of the INA,&#8221; the senior administration official told The Daily Wire. &#8220;President Trump&#8217;s administration will not allow any security threat to enter our country &#8211; full stop.&#8221;

On Monday, FIFA released a statement on Artan&#8217;s behalf and confirmed that Artan would not be able to train or officiate at the World Cup.
“Despite the circumstances, I am in a positive mood and I am focused on the next challenges in my refereeing career,” the Somali <a href="https://apnews.com/article/world-cup-somali-referee-7ec4113dc4c0baec3e952ad00c741038">referee said in the statement.</a> “I would like to thank FIFA and (the African federation) for all their support and I promise to keep my refereeing levels up as I concentrate on the future. I want to thank the football family for their messages and wish my colleagues all the best success during the World Cup and I look forward to joining them again in future competitions.”
CBP explained earlier on Monday that Artan was &#8220;determined to be inadmissible due to vetting concerns and was denied entry&#8221; during routine processing, to which all those entering the United States, including coaches, staff, and athletes, are subject.
“Admissibility determinations are made on a case-by-case basis using law enforcement, national security, and immigration information available at the time of inspection,” CBP noted. “CBP officers have the authority to question travelers, conduct inspections, and determine admissibility consistent with U.S. law.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted an overcrowded vessel carrying hundreds of Haitian migrants en route to the United States. 
At 2:45 p.m. on May 31, Air Interdiction Agents, who pilot airplanes and helicopters, detected a vessel about 65 nautical miles south of Turks and Caicos. The vessel, a 50-foot Haitian wooden boat, was heading north toward the islands.
On board were 240 migrants from Haiti “attempting an illegal maritime migration.” 
At 9:08 p.m., the U.S. Coast Guard reported the vessel was dead in the water. Turks and Caicos authorities declared a search and rescue case due to the risk of capsizing, <a href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media-release/amo-aircraft-assists-turks-and-caicos-authorities-rescue-240">according to CBP. </a>
No injuries were reported.

“Our personnel helped prevent what could have been a catastrophic loss of life while stopping yet another illegal migration attempt,” CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott said. 
Of the 240 migrants onboard, there were 191 adult males, 44 adult females, and five minors. Turks and Caicos authorities helped intercept the vessel and ensured the passengers did not reach U.S. soil, according to CBP. 
“The message remains clear: illegal maritime migration is dangerous, it is not worth the risk, and you will not gain entry into the U.S.,” Scott added. 
The seizure reflects the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to secure the border and deter illegal immigration. 
After assuming office, President Trump revoked the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of hundreds of thousands of Haitian migrants living in the United States. The executive action is currently pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. 
The White House is also ramping up efforts to stop migrants in their tracks. 
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin on Wednesday laid out a timeline for the completion of the U.S.-Mexico border wall. 
In a House Homeland Security Committee hearing, Mullin said DHS is on track to have a primary border wall stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of America completed by “this time next year.”
“On the border wall, first of all, we are on track to have the primary wall done, completed from the Pacific to the Gulf of America this time next year. We’ll have all contracts out by the end of this month. And we’re having great progress,” Mullin said. 
Mullin stressed that cartels have learned how to breach and cut sections of the border wall, forcing the need for a secondary barrier to reinforce the primary wall and deter illegal crossings. 
He predicted the second wall barrier would be completed by the summer of 2028.

Families embarking on cruise ship vacations may have more to worry about than infectious diseases. U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently raided five cruise ships, including one Disney cruise ship, as they identified predators viewing and distributing child sexual exploitation material. 
The operation took place in San Diego between April 23 and 25, leading to 28 individuals being arrested, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/05/06/us-news/disney-cruise-ship-staffers-among-28-arrested-in-child-porn-sting/">The California Post reported</a>.
“After boarding the vessels and interviewing 26 suspected crew members from the Philippines, one suspected crew member from Portugal, and one from Indonesia, officers confirmed all subjects were involved in either the receipt, possession, transportation, distribution, or viewing of CSEM or child pornography,” a CBP spokesperson told the outlet.
“CBP cancelled their visas and these criminals are being removed from our country,” the statement went on. 
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for this type of behavior and fully cooperated with law enforcement. While the majority of these individuals were not from our cruise line, those who were are no longer with the company,” a Disney rep said in response to the news.
Some passengers reportedly witnessed the arrests on board the ship last month, but the reason for the raids were unknown at the time. Some Left-leaning online commenters incorrectly deduced that the employees were being targeted for their immigration status, which led to them criticizing ICE operations. 
The news comes during a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hantavirus-scare-triggers-evacuations-on-cruise-ship-as-it-heads-to-next-port">bad PR week</a> for cruise ships. A luxury cruise ship hit by a deadly hantavirus outbreak and marooned since Sunday off the coast of Cape Verde has been making headlines after three people, two of them seriously ill, were evacuated.
Three people – a Dutch couple and a German national – have died in the outbreak.
A total of eight people are suspected to have contracted the virus, with three of them confirmed by laboratory testing, the World Health Organization said.

A White House official <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-administration/trump-global-tariff-start-10-percent-despite-announcement-15-percent-rcna260369">told</a> NBC News that the rate would start at 10% while officials prepare a separate executive order to increase it to 15%. The Daily Wire has reached out to the White House for clarification on the tariff rates. 
The Customs and Border Protection bulletin cited an <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2026/02/imposing-a-temporary-import-surcharge-to-address-fundamental-international-payments-problems/">executive order</a> Trump signed Friday after the Supreme Court struck down his &#8220;Liberation Day” tariffs, which had been imposed under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act (IEEPA). 

“I find that a surcharge in the form of ad valorem duties on certain imports is required to deal with the United States’ large and serious balance-of-payments deficit,” Trump wrote. “Accordingly, I impose, for a period of 150 days, a temporary import surcharge of 10 percent ad valorem, as described below, on articles imported into the United States, effective February 24, 2026.”
Products exempt from the tariffs include certain critical minerals, metals used in currency, energy and energy products, certain agricultural products, pharmaceuticals, certain electronics, and some passenger vehicles. 
These tariffs were imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which authorizes the president to address “certain fundamental international payment problems through surcharges and other special import restrictions.”
The Supreme Court ruling has led to uncertainty surrounding Trump’s broader economic agenda. A man who injured a Customs and Border Protection officer by hurling rocks through a car window during last summer&#8217;s violent anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles County pleaded guilty on Tuesday to assaulting a federal officer. 
Elpidio Reyna, 41, admitted to one count of assault with a deadly or dangerous weapon resulting in bodily injury. He was one of the dozens arrested after riots erupted after Immigration and Customs Enforcement began enforcement operations in the Los Angeles area. 
“This defendant could have easily killed a federal officer or innocent bystander,” <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-cdca/pr/compton-man-pleads-guilty-assaulting-and-injuring-federal-officer-during-anti">said</a> First Assistant United States Attorney Bill Essayli. “As he found out the hard way, violence against law enforcement is not constitutionally protected and will be met with swift justice. Those who engage in similar violence will be arrested, charged, and eventually convicted in a court of law.”
On June 7, 2025, Reyna joined a crowd throwing rocks and improvised explosives at federal officers operating near a Home Depot in Paramount, located about 11 miles north of Long Beach. 
“Protestors, including the defendant, began to throw rocks at the officers’ official vehicles, lit objects on fire, and impeded law enforcement activity. During this, defendant knowingly and intentionally lit objects on fire in the middle of the street and threw rocks at a convoy of law enforcement vehicles occupied by Customs and Border Protection Officers,” according to the plea agreement. 
One of the projectiles shattered a car window, cutting a Customs and Border Protection officer on the forehead. Reyna faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on August 7 by U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha. He has remained in federal custody since July 2025. 
Dozens of arrests were made during the protests in June and July across the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas over federal immigration operations. The Customs and Border Protection shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis could cause Washington to shut the government down for the second time in three months.
Senate Democrats signaled over the weekend that they would not vote for a bill that would fund the federal government through the end of the fiscal year, which contains funding for the Department of Homeland Security. CBP and Immigration and Customs Enforcement — whose agents were involved in the shooting of Renee Good — both fall under the DHS umbrella.
“After their son was killed in broad daylight, they are now forced to defend him against this administration’s lies,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said on X. “It’s another reason why Senate Democrats are united in rejecting this DHS spending bill.”
The House of Representatives already voted on spending bills before adjourning ahead of a major snowstorm descending on the capital. The House is not likely to return in time to avert a partial shutdown should the Senate somehow reach a deal, Punchbowl News reported.
&#8220;The Trump Administration and [Homeland Security Secretary] Kristi Noem are putting undertrained, combative federal agents on the streets with no accountability,” Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) said in a statement on Saturday.
“They are oppressing Americans and are at odds with local law enforcement,” she added. “This is clearly not about keeping Americans safe, it&#8217;s brutalizing U.S. citizens and law-abiding immigrants.”
It’s unclear exactly how a shutdown would impact CBP and ICE. Much of the president’s immigration agenda was funded through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, funding that would not be interrupted by a shutdown.
Last year, the United States faced the largest federal government shutdown in history for 43 days over a debate regarding Affordable Care Act subsidies.
Aside from the looming shutdown, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) is requesting testimony from CBP, ICE, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services over “border security and immigration enforcement” in hearings either in February or March, according to letters sent by the congressman on Saturday.
In Minnesota, Homeland Security’s Operation Metro Surge has led to thousands of arrests of people in the country illegally, but it’s also led to serious clashes with anti-ICE protests in the region — and staunch opposition from Democrats in the state.
“They think they can provoke us into abandoning our values. They are wrong. We will keep the peace. We will secure justice for our neighbors. And we will see this occupation end,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) posted to X on Saturday night.
The Trump administration has stated that Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey need to tone down the rhetoric in the state.
&#8220;The Minnesota governor and the Minneapolis mayor need to take a long, hard look in the mirror,” Noem said at a Saturday press conference. “They need to evaluate their rhetoric, their conversations, and their encouragement of such violence against our citizens and our law enforcement officers.”

The House Committee on Homeland Security has released a “Border Brief” <a href="https://homeland.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Nov-FY26-Border-Brief-1.pdf">factsheet</a> highlighting record-low border encounters at the start of Fiscal Year 2026. Attributing the success to Trump administration policies and congressional funding from the One Big Beautiful Bill, the report suggests a significant shift in national security and enforcement effectiveness.
Nationwide encounters in October and November 2025 totaled 60,940 — a 28 percent reduction from previous record lows and the lowest start to any fiscal year on record. Specifically, Southwest border apprehensions between ports of entry plummeted to 7,350 in November, representing an 84 percent decrease year-over-year. Daily apprehension averages have dropped by 95 percent compared to the prior administration. Notably, for seven consecutive months, the Border Patrol reported releasing no inadmissible aliens into the interior.
Beyond the numbers, the Committee emphasized targeted enforcement against violent criminals and drug traffickers. Key achievements include:

Foreign visitors could soon be required to reveal their social media history before entering the United States, according to a proposal from the Trump administration revealed on Wednesday.
The <a href="https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/12/10/2025-22461/agency-information-collection-activities-revision-arrival-and-departure-record-form-i-94-and">proposal</a> from U.S. Customs and Border Protection would require tourists entering the United States on the Visa Waiver Program to provide the last five years of their social media activity to the U.S. government. Border Patrol said the requirement would be in step with President Donald Trump&#8217;s executive order on &#8220;Protecting the United States From Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats.&#8221;
People from dozens of countries qualify for the Visa Waiver Program, which allows foreigners to enter the United States for tourism or business for up to 90 days without obtaining a visa. The program includes many European countries, such as Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom. It also includes Australia, Israel, and Qatar. The current system only makes foreign visitors pay $40 and provide an email address, home address, phone number, and emergency contact information.
The Trump administration&#8217;s proposal would also require foreigners to provide information from what it refers to as &#8220;high value data fields,&#8221; such as phone numbers they have used over the past five years and email addresses they have used over the past 10 years. Foreign visitors would also be required to reveal the names of close family members and the phone numbers of family members used in the last five years.

The Border Patrol proposal is open to public comment for 60 days. The Trump administration&#8217;s move to increase oversight on people coming into the United States comes as the country prepares for the 2026 World Cup, which could bring over one million international visitors to the United States. Some <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2025/12/10/esta-social-media-united-states/">immigration lawyers</a> and people in the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/09/travel/social-media-tourists-visa-border-patrol.html">travel industry</a> have pushed back on the Trump administration&#8217;s new requirements for foreign visitors.
The State Department under Trump has pushed for more vetting of foreigners&#8217; social media accounts. In April, Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered diplomats to investigate the social media feeds of student visa applicants. Rubio has especially targeted foreign students suspected of supporting terrorist organizations such as Hamas.
&#8220;Coming to the United States on a visa is a privilege, not a right,&#8221; Rubio <a href="https://x.com/SecRubio/status/1899892869332173133?lang=en">said</a> in March. &#8220;The Trump Administration is determined to deny or revoke your visa if you&#8217;re here to support terrorists.&#8221;
Rubio also recently told U.S. diplomats to “maintain extra vigilance” when vetting H-1B visa applicants, and the United States will require H-1B applicants to make their social media accounts public by December 15, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/12/06/trump-censorship-h1b-visas/">reported</a>.

The FBI arrested two individuals on Saturday after they allegedly rammed their vehicles into a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) vehicle in Chicago, triggering a shooting.
Marimar Martinez, 31, and Anthony Ian Santos, 21, were charged Sunday after federal authorities said they struck and boxed in a CBP vehicle to prevent it from escaping. Both were charged with forcibly assaulting, impeding, and interfering with a federal law enforcement officer.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning as three CBP agents, driving a silver Chevrolet Tahoe, were acting as a mobile security detail for an immigration enforcement operation near southwest Chicago. While working the operation, a “convoy of civilian vehicles” started following them, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-ndil/media/1415966/dl?inline=">according</a> to a criminal complaint.  
Those vehicles ran red lights, blew by stop signs, and broke traffic laws to follow the Border Patrol vehicle. The complaint added that Martinez could be heard referring to those in the Border Patrol vehicle as &#8220;la migra,&#8221; which is derogatory slang for immigration enforcement officers. 

“The convoy of civilian vehicles followed the BPAs closely and pursued the BPAs aggressively, culminating in MARTINEZ, in the Martinez Vehicle, and RUIZ, in the Ruiz Vehicle, driving into and striking the CBP Vehicle on both the driver’s and passenger’s side, respectively, leading to a temporary loss of control of the CBP Vehicle. In addition, once the CBP Vehicle had stopped and the BPAs exited the CBP Vehicle, MARTINEZ drove the Martinez Vehicle at BPA 1,” the complaint said. 
After being struck and boxed in by the vehicles, one of the Border Patrol agents exited the Tahoe and fired five shots at the car driven by Martinez, the complaint said. The two vehicles then fled the scene. 
Martinez was arrested at a repair shop and taken to a hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds, while Ruiz was arrested at a gas station. 
FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrests on Sunday.

That incident followed a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-illegal-aliens-ram-cars-into-ice-agents-in-two-separate-attacks-dhs-says?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=4&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=EXCLUSIVE%3A+Illegal+Aliens+Ram+Cars+Into+ICE+Agents+In+Two+Separate+Attacks%2C+DHS+Says">pair of car rammings</a> earlier in the week targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, who were also conducting operations in the Chicago area. 
In the first instance, Miguel Escareno De Loera, an illegal alien from Mexico, rammed his car into an ICE vehicle twice before jumping a curb and crashing into a stop in Norridge, Illinois, according to the Department of Homeland Security.  
In the second attack, Widman Osberto Lopez-Funes, an illegal alien from Guatemala, slammed his vehicle into ICE agents during an enforcement operation before running on foot to his home in Bensenville, DHS said. He was later taken into custody.

The Trump administration&#8217;s mass deportation efforts will move full steam ahead even if the government shuts down.
More than 19,000 of Immigration and Customs Enforcement&#8217;s (ICE) roughly 21,000 employees will work through a shutdown, <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/2025-09/2025_0929_dhs_procedures_related_to_a_lapse_in_appropriations.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to a contingency plan released by the Department of Homeland Security. And the working employees will assist in the agency&#8217;s law enforcement functions in cracking down on illegal immigration and illicit drugs.
Multiple agency sources carrying out arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants across the country confirmed that they&#8217;re required to report to work and are considered &#8220;essential&#8221; government employees during a shutdown.
&#8220;It&#8217;s business as usual,&#8221; one ICE source told The Daily Wire.

In addition to ICE, most of Customs and Border Protection&#8217;s personnel will also stay on the job during a shutdown. The agency has not only played an integral role in shutting down the borders under the Trump administration, but also in assisting ICE with its deportation operations across the country, including in Chicago and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/four-illegal-immigrants-arrested-after-laser-aimed-at-cbp-helicopter-patrolling-portland?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Four+Illegal+Immigrants+Arrested+After+Laser+Aimed+At+CBP+Helicopter+Patrolling+Portland">Portland</a>.
While ICE and CBP authorities won&#8217;t get paid for working during a shutdown, they will receive backpay once Congress passes a funding bill.
The looming shutdown comes as the Trump administration doubles down on ICE sweeps across the country despite an uptick in left-wing violence targeting agents. Trump deployed troops to Portland over the weekend in an attempt to crack down on attacks carried out by Antifa and other domestic terrorists, which have targeted ICE facilities.
And the job is anything but finished, a Homeland Security official told The Daily Wire.

Following the meeting, Vance told reporters that a shutdown was likely coming.
“I think we’re heading to a shutdown, because the Democrats won’t do the right thing,” Vance said. “I hope they change their mind, but we’re going to see.”
The House on Sept. 19 passed a seven-week extension of government funding that would expire on Nov. 21, but the Senate struck it down in a <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1191/vote_119_1_00528.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vote</a> of 44-48. The Senate needs 60 votes to pass such a resolution.

Late Saturday evening, the 42-year-old officer and his friend were sitting in Fort Washington Park in Manhattan when two men approached them on a moped. One man walked up to the officer and shot him multiple times in the face and arm. The officer&#8217;s friend was uninjured. The officer shot back, injuring the perpetrator in the leg and groin area, causing him and his accomplice to drive off.
Noem and Homan condemned New York City&#8217;s sanctuary city policies during Monday&#8217;s press conference, saying they made this kind of crime possible by allowing criminals to remain in the country. Noem said she was &#8220;calling on every single mayor in a sanctuary city and sanctuary city governor to change their policies and to change their tactics right now.&#8221;

President Donald Trump wrote in a <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1947018535378501871" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> Sunday following the incident that &#8220;The Democrats have flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders, and now, they must all be thrown out.&#8221;
&#8220;We should not be here today. The reason these two assailants are inside the United States today is because of failed border policies by the Biden administration,&#8221; CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/noem-visit-cbp-agent-shot-new-york-city-sanctuary-city-policies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at a press conference Monday.
Noem <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1947294261537374356" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that the officer and his friend &#8220;were attacked by two individuals that were set on robbing them and, thankfully, he had his service weapon with him and was able to defend himself and his friend.&#8221; She added that &#8220;His quick action speaks to his tenacity and his excellence in training.&#8221;
Noem and Homan recently visited the injured officer, who is in a stable condition.
The suspect, Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, was taken into custody after he limped into a New York City hospital with wounds similar to those inflicted by the officer late Saturday night. The second suspect, Christhian Aybar-Berroa — also a citizen of the Dominican Republic — was taken into custody Monday morning, Noem <a href="https://x.com/Sec_Noem/status/1947300919432905079" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a>.
Nunez&#8217;s criminal <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/07/21/second-criminal-illegal-alien-lengthy-rap-sheet-arrested-involvement-ambush-and" target="_blank" rel="noopener">record</a> lists grand larceny, assault, criminal contempt, and armed robbery with a firearm, all of which occurred between October 2023 and February 2025. Aybar-Berroa&#8217;s record includes reckless endangerment, grand larceny, and reckless driving.
Noem wrote in a post Monday that the second suspect, Aybar-Berroa, &#8220;entered the country illegally in 2022 under the Biden Administration and was ordered for final removed [sic] in 2023 by an immigration judge. He has a criminal record in New York City and detainers were IGNORED thanks to <a href="https://x.com/ericadamsfornyc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">@ericadamsfornyc</a> sanctuary city policies.&#8221;
