Today, we have winning on the menu with two big Trump wins right off the bat.
Trump has now tapped Tom Homan as his new “border czar.” Tom Homan is, of course, the former acting ICE chief. In a social media post late on Sunday, Trump made his <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113462412414821782" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announcement</a>:
<blockquote>I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (“The Border Czar”), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security. I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders. Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job.</blockquote>
Homan is somebody who really stands up for the principles of a closed border and for legal immigration. In October during an <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-mass-deportation-plan-cost-consequences-60-minutes-transcript/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview with 60 Minutes’</a> Cecilia Vega, Homan clarified his positioning on deportation:
<blockquote>Vega: We have seen one estimate that says it would cost $88 billion to deport a million people a year.
Homan: I don&#8217;t know if that&#8217;s accurate or not.
Vega: Is that what American taxpayers should expect?
Homan: What price do you put on national security? Is it worth it?

Homan: Of course there is. Families can be deported together.</blockquote>
Trump is serious about deporting a large number of people, and Homan is the most serious person to act as “border czar.”

Ocasio-Cortez: And so the recommendation — of the many that you recommended — you recommended family separation.
Homan: I recommended zero tolerance.
Ocasio-Cortez: Which includes family separation.
Homan: The same as it is with every U.S. citizen parent that gets arrested when they’re with a child.
Ocasio-Cortez: Zero tolerance was interpreted as the policy that separated children from their parents?
Homan: If I get arrested for DUI and I have a young child in the car, I’m going to be separated. When I was a police officer in New York and I arrested a father for domestic violence, I separated that father from—
Ocasio-Cortez: Mr. Homan, with all due respect, legal asylees are not charged with any crime.
Homan: When you’re in the country illegally, it’s a violation of eight United States Code 1325.
Ocasio-Cortez: Seeking asylum is legal.
Homan: If you want to seek asylum, go through the port of entry, do it the legal way. The Attorney General of the United States has made that clear.</blockquote>
That is the new border czar. Trump was not joking when he talked about closing the border and taking the issue of illegal immigration seriously.
Tom Homan as the “border czar” was not Trump&#8217;s only announced pick over the weekend. He also announced Rep. Elise Stefanik to his choice for the U.N. ambassador role.
That&#8217;s a great job. If you have to pick any job in the American government, U.N. ambassador is a fantastic job because you have a very nice apartment in New York City, and then you go over to the U.N., which is a repository of all human scum, and yell at dictators all day. It&#8217;s a pretty phenomenal job.
Stefanik happens to be an excellent candidate for this position. Just last December, she stood up to antisemitism on college campuses. In last year’s Committee on Education and the Workforce hearing on “Holding Campus Leaders Accountable and Confronting Antisemitism,” Stefanik <a href="https://stefanik.house.gov/2023/12/icymi-during-questions-from-stefanik-presidents-of-harvard-upenn-mit-refuse-to-condemn-calls-for-genocide-of-jews" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pressed</a> then-Harvard University President Claudine Gay, along with several other university heads, whether allowing antisemitic chants calling for the elimination of the state of Israel was, in fact, antisemitic:

A video posted on X by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/customs-and-border-patrol" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Customs and Border Protection</a> (CBP) was ripped apart by social media users who noticed that federal government agents&#8217; idea for removing debris from Hurricane Milton probably wasn&#8217;t the most efficient strategy.

The video was blasted by social media users, who quipped that using over a dozen people and taking 20 seconds to move a log around 30 feet was a perfect example of the federal government&#8217;s inefficiency.

Other social media users pointed out that using a wheelbarrow would allow one person to transport numerous logs that size, speeding up the process, but apparently, the CBP officers preferred the assembly line method.
At least Americans can rest easy knowing the answer to the question. It takes at least 14 CBP officers to move a small log 30 feet. Americans are still waiting to find out how many CBP officers it takes to stop the Biden-Harris administration&#8217;s border crisis.

A Cuban national who has been accused of murdering a woman in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tennessee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tennessee</a> was reportedly released into the country by the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/biden-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Biden administration</a> last year, according to a new report. 
NewsNation <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/migrant-entered-via-cbp-one-222006710.html#:~:text=Dayren%20Roque%20Lopez%2C%2041%2C%20from,in%20a%20Cleveland%20residence%20Sunday." target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> Tuesday that 41-year-old Dayren Roque Lopez, who is suspected of murdering 25-year-old Dayana Garcia, was released into the United States in San Ysidro, California, in August 2023 using the Biden administration’s Customs and Border Protection One app. The app allows people seeking entry into the U.S. expedited processing and gives them a court date to hear their asylum claim. 
Lopez was arrested in Zavala County, Texas, on Monday after he was accused of murdering Garcia in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was caught almost 30 miles away from the Texas/Mexico border, according to police. 
Lopez had work authorization in the United States and was set to have a hearing on his immigration status in Memphis in November, according to NewsNation. 
Cleveland Police said that they were working with Texas Rangers to bring Lopez back to Tennessee to face first-degree murder charges. The suspect reportedly was arrested on domestic charges in February but was not convicted. 
Cleveland Police Chief Mark Gibson said that the circumstances around Garcia’s death were still under investigation, and officials were not ready to release the cause of death to the public. 
“We have been in contact with her family, and I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;ll start finding out a lot more information about her as time goes,” he <a href="https://kfoxtv.com/news/nation-world/man-wanted-for-tennesssee-womans-murder-arrested-in-texas-dayren-roque-lopez-zavala-county-bradley-county-cleveland-dayana-garcia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said the incident exemplifies the Biden-Harris administration’s failed immigration policies. 
“The accused murderer of a 25-year-old woman in Cleveland, Tennessee, is an illegal alien, someone who came in this country on the CBP One App,” she said. “You&#8217;ve heard me talk about this because it is another of those components that the Biden-Harris administration is using trying to make illegal aliens legal. This absolutely has to stop. This is why it is imperative that we close the border.”
Thousands of foreign nationals have been released into the U.S. through the CBP One app, which allows foreign nationals to schedule appointments to apply for asylum at ports of entry.

After U.S. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/illegal-immigration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Customs and Border Protection</a> (CBP) released their border encounter numbers for July 2024, showing such numbers have surpassed 10 million, along with roughly 2 million known gotaways, since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took office, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) blistered the Biden administration for their failure to control the border.
“Despite the false narrative they’re attempting to project, the unprecedented border crisis the president and his ‘border czar’ have created continues to rage on,” Green stated. “This administration is orchestrating a massive shell game, encouraging otherwise-inadmissible aliens to cross at ports of entry instead of between them—thereby creating a façade of improved optics for the administration, but in reality imposing a growing burden on our communities. Total encounters at our ports—land, sea, and air—are up exponentially this fiscal year compared to the Biden-Harris administration’s first year in office, and are on track to surpass last year’s total. Since January 2023, more than 1.28 million inadmissible aliens have been granted entry to our country at official ports of entry through just the CBP One and CHNV mass-parole programs Biden and Harris created. And now the CHNV program has been halted due to massive fraud.”
“Even if another illegal alien did not cross our Southwest border for the remainder of Biden-Harris’ term, the millions they have already allowed into our country have done damage that will take decades to remedy,” he continued. &#8220;And for the families of Americans like Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and Jocelyn Nungaray, that damage will never be undone.”
Riley’s body was found February 22 on the University of Georgia campus after she had gone for a jog, with police beginning a search for her after she did not return home. Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, a Venezuelan national, was arrested and charged the following day.

Rachel Morin, 37, a mother of five, was murdered in Maryland last year. Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, 23, an illegal immigrant was accused of raping and murdering Morin six months after illegally crossing the southern U.S. border.
Nungaray, 12, was is believed to have been murdered by two adult illegal immigrants from Venezuela in June of this year.

Customs and Border Protection said on Wednesday that it had recorded more than 179,000 encounters at the southern border in April as thousands of illegal immigrants continue to be released into the country. 
According to the <a href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media-release/cbp-releases-april-2024-monthly-update" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBP numbers</a>, Border Patrol recorded more than 128,900 encounters with foreign nationals between ports of entry along the southern border in April. At the same time, it had 41,100 encounters with individuals who used the app created by the Biden administration to be processed at a port of entry into the United States. The encounters were down from last month&#8217;s 189,357 and April 2023’s 211,992. 
“We are still experiencing challenges along the borders and the nation’s immigration system is not appropriately resourced to handle them, so we continue to call on Congress to take action that would provide our personnel with additional resources and tools,” said acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller. 
CBP also said that cocaine seizures at the border had increased 95% since March and that the agency has confiscated 11,400 pounds of fentanyl so far in fiscal year 2024. 
While Miller highlighted the dip in encounters, House Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green (R-TN) said that the number was still too high. 
“These numbers make one thing clear — we are still in a crisis of the Biden administration’s making,” Green said in a <a href="https://mailchi.mp/chsrep/chairman-green-welcomes-new-members-to-committee-on-homeland-security-for-118th-congress-1739603?e=41ec78a261">statement</a>. “Going from ‘absolutely catastrophic’ in December to just ‘catastrophic’ in April may be acceptable for Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden, but no one else.”
Green also criticized parole programs adopted by the Biden administration that allow inadmissible aliens to enter the United States.

The numbers also come as Fox News <a href="https://twitter.com/billmelugin_/status/1790783036713312574?s=46&amp;t=5nB3R1hthzMlYMrXjZyN8Q" target="_blank" rel="noopener">obtained</a> the number of known illegal immigrant “gotaways” who made it into the United States. According to the numbers, gotaways have exploded under President Joe Biden with more than 600,000 in fiscal years 2022 and 2023.
From fiscal year 2010 to 2020, there were about 1.4 million known gotaways, while there were 1.6 million recorded from fiscal year 2021 to 2024.

Two <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/national-guard" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Guard</a> troops and one Border Patrol agent are dead after a helicopter conducting operations along the southern border in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/texas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Texas</a> crashed. 
The UH-72 Lakota helicopter carrying three National Guard troops and a Border Patrol agent was patrolling the border in Starr County when it went down. One National Guard soldier survived and was taken to the hospital for treatment. 
General Daniel Hokanson, the chief of the National Guard Bureau, said that he and the National Guard “send our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, friends &amp; colleagues of the two Army National Guard Soldiers and the U.S. Border Patrol officer killed in today&#8217;s helicopter crash in Texas.”
“We mourn these heartbreaking deaths. They are a tragic loss beyond words. We pray for the speedy recovery of a third Guard Soldier who was seriously injured. All of these people represent selfless service &amp; the best of America,” he added.

Hokanson said that the crash occurred around 2:50 p.m. MST while conducting aviation operations near Rio Grande City, Texas. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and the names of the killed won’t be released as families are notified. 
Starr County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted in the response to the crash and said that it took place in the eastern part of the county. Starr County Judge Eloy Vera said that three men and one woman were on the helicopter, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/helicopter-crash-texas-caf206040e2f7efc142c514d500180ab" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Associated Press. 
Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/mexican-cartel-members-laugh-after-national-guard-helicopter-crashes-kills-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported </a>that it obtained footage from a Customs and Border Protection source that showed Mexican cartel members laughing as the helicopter went down. One person reportedly shouted “go to hell” in Spanish as the helicopter crashed.

Starr County has previously seen high numbers of crossings, and the Department of Homeland Security <a href="https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2023-22176.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">waived</a> some legal requirements to move forward with the Trump administration’s plan to put up a border wall in the county. 
“The Secretary of Homeland Security has determined, pursuant to law, that it is necessary to waive certain laws, regulations, and other legal requirements in order to ensure the expeditious construction of barriers and roads in the vicinity of the international land border in Starr County, Texas,” DHS said in October. 
Under President Joe Biden, record numbers of illegal immigrants have crossed into the United States, prompting calls from lawmakers to close the border and rescind his earlier executive orders that reversing Trump-era border policies.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) apprehended 269 Chinese nationals attempting to enter the U.S. illegally on Monday, raising the number of Chinese illegal immigrants encountered by Border Patrol agents to over 20,000 in the past five months alone.
A CBP source <a href="https://twitter.com/BillMelugin_/status/1757448558092202280" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Fox News’ Bill Melugin that the Border Patrol’s San Diego Sector detained 269 illegal immigrants from China in a single day after CBP reported that agents from the same border sector <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/border-patrol-san-diego-sector-apprehends-thousands-migrants-from-73-countries-one-week-span" target="_blank" rel="noopener">apprehended</a> over 8,500 illegal immigrants from 73 different countries in one week at the beginning of February. In fiscal year 2024 alone, which began in October 2023, more than 20,000 Chinese nationals have been encountered at the border — that’s compared to 450 who crossed in all of fiscal year 2021, Melugin reported.

Chinese migrants reportedly find step-by-step instructions for hiring smugglers on the Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok. Many Chinese migrants fly from China to Ecuador, which doesn’t require a visa for Chinese nationals, before they fly to Tijuana, Mexico, where they meet and pay smugglers willing to take them to the U.S. southern border.

Trump added that the increase in Chinese illegal immigrants could pose a national security threat, pondering whether an “army” is being put together.
“And they were mostly men, almost all men from the age of 18 to 25. So what’s that all about?” he asked.
The surge in Chinese citizens entering the U.S. illegally coincides with the ongoing fight between Republicans and the Biden administration on border security and immigration reform. Since Biden took office in January 2021, at least eight million illegal immigrants have been encountered at the border, not including gotaways, according to <a href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/nationwide-encounters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBP data</a>.
On Monday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/speaker-johnson-rips-senate-foreign-aid-package-for-lacking-real-border-security-provisions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slammed</a> a $95 billion foreign aid package passed by the Senate that he said lacked &#8220;real&#8221; border security provisions, failing &#8220;to address the most critical aspect of national security supplemental legislation.&#8221;

Decrying the “open border” policies of the Biden administration has been a constant theme for Republicans during the last three years. Little changed in 2023 with the influx of illegal immigrants continuing strong as Border Patrol encountered roughly more people at the southern border than the population of the entire state of New Mexico.
According to official statistics from Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol had 2,240,056 encounters with foreign nationals from all other the world at the southern border in 2023. This includes official recorded encounters by CBP from January to November, and <a href="https://twitter.com/BillMelugin_/status/1740760905569460246" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> numbers for December.

The total number of reported encounters is greater than the <a href="https://worldpopulationreview.com/states" target="_blank" rel="noopener">populations</a> (on an individual level, not total) of 15 states including Wyoming, Vermont, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Delaware, Rhode Island, Montana, Maine, New Hampshire, Hawaii, West Virginia, Idaho, Nebraska, and New Mexico. 
This includes roughly 31,458 individuals from China, 137,389 individuals from Colombia, 63,135 from Cuba, 106,635 from Ecuador, 59,693 from El Salvador, 225,998 from Guatemala, 69,095 from Haiti, 213,853 from Honduras, 41,134 from India, 671,128 from Mexico, 16,690 from Nicaragua, 55, 276 from Peru, 29,449 from Russia, 14,135 from Turkey, and 302,736 from Venezuela. 
In 2023, videos of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/massive-migrant-caravan-marches-toward-u-s-as-top-biden-officials-meet-with-mexican-president" target="_blank" rel="noopener">massive caravans</a> heading toward the U.S. continued to circulate showing that many still see the border as open even as the Biden administration worked to block state efforts to protect their own sovereignty. The year saw everything from the expiration of Title 42 to the release of hundreds of thousands of foreign nationals into the U.S. 
Below are the biggest trendlines in the continuing border crisis from the last year. 
<h3>Crossings Surge to Record Highs</h3>
The Biden administration set all kinds of records at the southern border in 2023 and none of them were good. Throughout the year, multiple records for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/record-set-for-southern-border-encounters-in-one-month-as-nearly-250000-cross-into-u-s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">monthly crossings</a> were set leading up to December, when crossings <a href="https://twitter.com/BillMelugin_/status/1740760905569460246" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> hit an all time high at 276,000.
The December record was set with three days still left in the year, and marked a large uptick from November which itself was a monthly record.
“We are now at over 760,000 migrant encounters since October 1st, making the first quarter of fiscal year 2024 also the highest ever recorded. Thats a population size bigger than Seattle in just three months,” Fox News reporter Bill Melugin posted on X. “All records being blown out of the water under the Biden admin as the crisis gets worse — not better.”
Other records set included Chinese nationals crossing the southern border at the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chinese-nationals-are-flooding-across-southern-border-at-record-pace" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fastest pace ever</a>, and a record 50,000 Venezuelans<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/50000-venezuelans-illegally-crossed-u-s-border-last-month-shattering-previous-record" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> illegally crossing</a> into the U.S. in September.
<h3>States Send National Guard to Border</h3>
To help with the crisis on the border, states from <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gov-bill-lee-to-send-tennessee-national-guard-troops-to-combat-unprecedented-crisis-at-the-border" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tennessee</a> to Arizona continued to send National Guard troops to the border. Arizona Democrat Governor Katie Hobbs <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democratic-arizona-governor-orders-national-guard-to-border-slams-biden-admin-for-allowing-unmitigated-humanitarian-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ripped</a> into Biden for his handling of the border earlier this month when announcing her plans to send the National Guard to the border.
“Yet again, the federal government is refusing to do its job to secure our border and keep our communities safe,” Hobbs said in a statement. “With this Executive Order, I am taking action where the federal government won’t.”
<h3>Illegal Immigrants Sent to Blue Cities</h3>
Another trend that continued into 2023 was red states sending illegal immigrants into blue cities like Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles, all places that have backed lax immigration policies.
Texas bussed and flew <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gov-abbott-says-texas-will-bus-another-70000-immigrants-to-democrat-run-cities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tens of thousands</a> of illegal immigrants across the country to the Democrat cities, prompting them to grapple with the effects of Biden’s border policies.
In NYC, Mayor Eric Adams <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/teachers-union-sues-eric-adams-after-mayor-slashes-education-budget-to-deal-with-illegal-immigration-crisis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was forced</a> to make budget cuts in the city’s Education Department in order to deal with the overflow of illegal immigrants into the Big Apple. Adams and fellow Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago have been sharply critical of the Biden administration and have demanded federal funding to deal with the crisis.
<h3>Colony Ridge Comes Under Scrutiny</h3>
Following Daily Wire reporting on Colony Ridge, a massive development north of Houston that’s become a magnet for illegal aliens, Biden’s DOJ <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-doj-sues-colony-ridge-for-bait-and-switch-sales-predatory-financing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a suit against the development alleging “bait-and-switch” sales and predatory financing practices.
A September <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inside-colony-ridge-the-fastest-growing-development-in-the-u-s-is-a-magnet-for-illegal-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation</a> by The Daily Wire highlighted how the development’s marketing practices appear to be aimed at people who are in the U.S. illegally. The development sells inexpensive plots of land at sky-high interest rates, targeting buyers such as illegal immigrants who are ineligible to apply for traditional loans.
The report garnered responses from prominent Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and legacy outlets also reported on the story.
<h3>Americans Continue to Suffer Because of Illegal Immigration</h3>
Across the country, from Texas to New York, Americans continue to suffer from the impacts of illegal immigration. According to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/migrant-crisis-could-cost-taxpayers-451-billion-house-gop-report-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from House Republicans, illegal immigration costs American taxpayers up to $451 billion. Each taxpayer is on the hook for an average of $956 due to illegal immigration, the report said. This cost comes as inflation has remained high, especially in relation to consumer goods.
In November, dozens of seniors in New York, including a 94-year-old Army veteran named Frank Tammaro, were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dozens-of-nyc-seniors-evicted-from-nursing-home-turned-into-migrant-shelter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> evicted from their senior center, which was then converted into a migrant shelter.
Foreign nationals have also been accused of horrific crimes across the country, including murder.
Earlier this month, an illegal immigrant was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-arrested-in-connection-with-murder-of-16-year-old-texas-cheerleader" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested in connection</a> to the murder of a 16-year-old Texas high school cheerleader named Lizbeth Medina. Also in Texas, a 50-year-old illegal immigrant <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-charged-after-allegedly-shooting-two-sisters-in-the-head-in-their-texas-home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was arrested</a> and charged after allegedly fatally shooting two sisters in the head in their Dallas-area home.
In Nashville, a twice deported illegal immigrant from Honduras <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/twice-deported-illegal-alien-from-honduras-charged-with-murder-in-nashville" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was charged</a> with murder after a man was found in a burned out vehicle. The man was  identified as a member of the “Sur 13” gang and affiliated with “Surenos Locos Criminales.”
A Haitian national <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-alien-allegedly-crashes-into-school-bus-killing-small-child-bidens-catch-and-release-under-scrutiny" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was arrested</a> in Ohio after allegedly crashing his minivan into a school bus last week, resulting in dozens injured and the death of an 11-year-old boy.
<h3>Title 42 Expires</h3>
One of the factors leading to the influx of illegal immigrants was the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel-illegal-immigrants-surge-across-border-as-trump-era-rule-ends" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expiration</a> of Title 42 in May. Title 42 was a Trump-era rule that allowed illegal immigrants to be turned away at the border based on COVID concerns.
In the week leading up to its expiration, swarms of illegal immigrants were seen crossing the Rio Grande into the U.S. Border agents apprehended more than 11,000 people who crossed the border illegally on one day leading up to the expiration, reportedly about double the amount seen in a typical day.
<h3>Biden Administration Tries to Block States from Protecting Borders</h3>
While the border crisis has been ongoing, the Biden administration has tried to thwart efforts by Texas to deter illegal immigration and crack down on people illegally entering the country.
In September, Biden’s Border Patrol <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-officials-cut-razor-wire-on-southern-border-opening-the-floodgates-to-illegal-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cut razor wire</a> that the state of Texas had placed alongside on the Rio Grande to stop illegal aliens from flooding into the country. Biden’s Department of Justice <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abbott-issues-challenge-to-biden-administration-as-doj-sues-texas-over-river-barrier" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also sued</a> Texas Governor Greg Abbott after he constructed a water barrier in the Rio Grande to deter illegal crossings.
The DOJ is also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admin-threatens-to-sue-texas-over-law-giving-state-power-to-crack-down-on-illegal-immigration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatening to sue</a> Texas over a new state law that makes it a crime to illegally enter the state, giving state officials more power to take steps to secure the border amid the ongoing crisis.
<h3>What’s next for the Border Crisis?</h3>
Multiple attempts to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have floundered in 2023, but House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) said that he will bring articles of impeachment against Mayorkas in 2024.
House Republicans&#8217; effort to impeach Mayorkas will likely be a large story going into 2024 and could be a factor to watch as Republicans try to control the House going into 2024.
There could also be a surge of crossings in November and December if Biden is defeated as Republican presidential candidates have pledged to secure the border and crack down on illegal immigration. Former President Donald Trump has promised to institute a large-scale deportation program if re-elected and has promised to finish securing the southern border.
There will also be continued fighting between Texas and the Biden administration as Texas attempts to fill in the gaps left by the Biden administration’s border policies.

Border authorities <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/migrant-encounters-at-southern-border-set-new-record-for-october-data" target="_blank" rel="noopener">encountered</a> 240,988 migrants at the border last month, <a href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/southwest-land-border-encounters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), making it the highest October on record.
In October last year, authorities encountered 231,529 migrants, more than 9,000 fewer people than this year.
In October 2021, they encountered 164,837 migrants, and in October 2020, there were only 71,929 encounters.
Last month&#8217;s number marks a drop from September, which saw the highest monthly total of encounters ever at 269,735 encounters.
Overall, there have been a record 2.4 million migrant encounters at the southern border since last October.
Border Patrol agents also <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/migrant-encounters-at-southern-border-set-new-record-for-october-data" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> 13 people on the terror watchlist in October.
The higher numbers of border encounters with migrants claiming asylum in the U.S. has resulted in a crisis up north as migrants head into the interior of the country.

Cities like New York City and Chicago are scrambling to metabolize the thousands of migrants who have shown up since last year.
In New York City, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/26/migrants-nyc-plane-rides-00123778" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more than</a> 130,000 migrants have arrived since last year, many of whom are still being housed on the city’s dime, causing homeless shelters to reach their limits and forcing the city to open new facilities.
Mayor Eric Adams <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/09/nyregion/adams-nyc-migrants-cost.html#:~:text=374-,Mayor%20Adams%20Says%20Migrant%20Influx%20Will%20Cost%20New%20York%20City,them%20and%20provide%20other%20services." target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> over the summer that the migrant crisis could cost New York City $12 billion over three years.
Chicago has been scrambling to respond to an illegal migrant crisis before the cold winter months arrive. The country’s third-largest city has <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/08/us/politics/gop-migrants-blue-cities.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">experienced</a> an influx of more than 18,500 migrants recently, many from Venezuela.
Chicago is working to build massive winterized camps for newly arrived migrants, many of whom slept on the floors of police stations or airports for months. The city has already spent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chicago-airport-now-sheltering-hundreds-of-illegal-migrants-as-city-waits-on-tents" target="_blank" rel="noopener">at least</a> $250 million on the issue so far.
The migrant crisis plaguing the border and major cities could end up costing taxpayers up to $451 billion, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/migrant-crisis-could-cost-taxpayers-451-billion-house-gop-report-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to a report from House Republicans released this week.
For all migrants who have entered the U.S. since 2021, the cost of government housing and care could end up being as high as $451 billion a year, the report notes, citing numbers from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), a think tank that <a href="https://cis.org/Center-For-Immigration-Studies-Background" target="_blank" rel="noopener">describes</a> its vision as “pro-immigrant, low-immigration.”
There are currently between 16.8 million and 29 million illegal migrants living in the country, the report says, citing numbers from FAIR and Yale University.
About 3.8 million of those migrants have entered the country under the Biden administration, the data indicates.

Migrant Encounters At Border Last Month Mark Highest October On Record

Federal law enforcement officials tasked with protecting America&#8217;s borders are warning that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/iran" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Iranian</a>-backed terrorists may try to enter the U.S. illegally through the southern border.
The warning from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection&#8217;s (CBP) San Diego Field Office Intelligence Unit (SDFO-FITU) comes after Hamas terrorists murdered more than 1,400 Israelis in terror attacks two weeks ago that were unprecedented in scale.
The intelligence bulletin says that &#8220;individuals inspired by, or reacting to, the current Israel-Hamas conflict may attempt travel to or from the area of hostilities in the Middle East via circuitous transit across the Southwest border.&#8221;
&#8220;Foreign fighters motivated by ideology or mercenary soldiers of fortune may attempt to obfuscate travel to or from the US to or from countries in the Middle East through Mexico,&#8221; the bulletin said.
Officials specifically included patches of three Islamic terrorist groups that are backed by Iran: Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah.
Officials warned that possible indicators for agents to watch for were military-aged males, military gear, insignia of terror groups, single travelers, no return plans, and those who have ties to the Middle East.
The bulletin directed agents to ascertain if any encountered suspects have any personal or familial association with Hamas, Hezbollah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PLFP), or any other similar groups.

The news comes after CBP revealed on Saturday that the agency <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-records-highest-illegal-alien-encounters-in-history-for-september-over-8-million-total-for-biden-era" target="_blank" rel="noopener">encountered</a> nearly 270,000 illegal aliens at the U.S. southern border for the month of September. The total — 269,735 illegal alien encounters — was the highest single-month total ever recorded.

September’s numbers close out Fiscal Year 2023 with a total of 2,475,669 illegal alien encounters — the highest level recorded in U.S. history. President Joe Biden’s illegal immigration crisis on the southern border has worsened every year that he has been in office, with Fiscal Year 2022 having 2,378,944 encounters and Fiscal Year 2021 having 1,734,686 encounters.
The three fiscal years under Biden have seen a staggering 6,589,299 illegal alien encounters on the southern border.
However, those numbers do not include “known gotaways,” which refers to illegal aliens who are observed illegally entering the U.S. and are not apprehended.
The House Judiciary Committee said in a report earlier this month that there have been 1.7 million known gotaways that have escaped into the U.S. during the Biden era. CBP sources told Fox News that they believe the number is around 1.6 million “known gotaways.”
Additionally, 169 illegal aliens on the terrorist watchlist were arrested in Fiscal Year 2023, bringing the total number arrested under Biden to 282.
During the Biden era, federal agents have encountered 72,823 “special interest aliens” attempting to enter the country illegally. “Special interest aliens” are illegal aliens who come from countries that are considered breeding grounds for terrorism.
When factoring in the 1.6-1.7 million known gotaways into the equation, the number of illegal aliens who have entered the U.S. jumps to potentially over 8 million. Some illegal aliens enter the country multiple times and are apprehended.

The number of illegal aliens that have crossed the southern border and evaded detection, referred to as &#8220;unknown gotaways,&#8221; is unknown, but sources <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-may-have-lost-track-millions-of-migrants-crossing-southern-border-congressional-report">told</a> Fox News that the number could potentially be in the millions.
&#8220;Because of the unprecedented border crisis, some Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have been forced to abandon arrests and removals of aliens, including criminal aliens, to process the illegal aliens who have arrived at the southwest border,&#8221; the House Judiciary Committee report states. &#8220;Meanwhile, the Biden Administration’s own policies and so-called enforcement &#8216;priorities&#8217; have contributed to reduced arrests and lower removals of aliens.&#8221;

U.S. Records Highest Illegal Alien Encounters In History For September; Over 8 Million Total For Biden Era

The Democratic mayor of El Paso, Texas says the city has reached &#8220;a breaking point&#8221; with floods of migrants coming in every day and said the city chartered five buses to take migrants to New York, Chicago, and Denver over the weekend.
El Paso is seeing more than 2,000 migrants per day, pushing the border city&#8217;s shelters and resources past capacity. The new migrants are <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/el-paso-texas-at-breaking-point-migrants-flood-border-mayor-says-2023-09-23/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> mostly Venezuelans.
&#8220;The city of El Paso only has so many resources and we have come to &#8230; a breaking point right now,&#8221; Mayor Oscar Leeser, a Democrat, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/el-paso-texas-at-breaking-point-migrants-flood-border-mayor-says-2023-09-23/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at a press conference on Saturday.
El Paso chartered five buses to send migrants to New York, Chicago, and Denver on Saturday, Leeser said.
Previously, the Republican governors of Texas and Florida who sent migrants to blue cities were skewered by Democrats, who <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/sep/16/migrants-marthas-vineyard-desantis-biden-democrats-criticism#:~:text=Joe%20Biden%20has%20accused%20Ron,move%20is%20also%20under%20scrutiny." target="_blank" rel="noopener">accused</a> them of “playing politics with people’s lives.”
However, El Paso&#8217;s mayor said the migrants his city put on buses were traveling voluntarily to the cities of their choice.
The migrant crisis at the border has been ramping up in recent weeks.
In August, there were nearly 233,000 migrant encounters at the southern border, the highest August on record, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/migrant-numbers-break-another-record-under-biden-southern-border-hit-new-surge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. That number marks a jump from under 184,000 encounters in July.
Last month&#8217;s numbers are also a significant rise from August a year ago, when there were only 204,000 migrant encounters. September&#8217;s numbers are already tens of thousands of encounters <a href="https://apnews.com/article/immigration-texas-california-border-asylum-seekers-314698bfb5644be8f8f6085ebe9b9b98" target="_blank" rel="noopener">higher</a> than last year as well.
Meanwhile, several major cities, particularly New York and Chicago, have been struggling with a migrant crisis as tens of thousands of newcomers show up on their doorstep.
New York City is struggling to metabolize <a href="https://www.fox5ny.com/news/house-democrats-migrant-crisis-tour-interrupted-by-protesters-outside-roosevelt-hotel#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more than</a> 113,000 migrants who have shown up in the city since last spring, nearly 60,000 of whom are still being housed on the city’s dime.
The city has already <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-york-city-migrant-crisis-approaches-breaking-point-with-disorderly-migrants-shelter-space" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spent</a> more than $1.2 billion on the migrants and is projected to spend up to $5 billion.
The situation has sparked tension between New York’s Democratic leaders and the Biden administration, with the governor and mayor calling for more federal help with the migrant crisis.
Biden’s Department of Homeland Security has since given New York City $140 million in federal funding to address the migrant crisis, but Mayor Eric Adams has said it would take more aid to get the situation under control.
Chicago is also facing a migrant crisis and is struggling to find long-term solutions. The country’s third-largest city has <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/08/us/politics/gop-migrants-blue-cities.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">seen</a> an influx of about 13,500 migrants recently and has already spent at least $250 million on the issue.
Mayor Brandon Johnson <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/chicago-mayor-brandon-johnson-migrants-news-migrant-plan/13752467/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">detailed</a> his plan for massive migrant tents earlier this month.
Last week, Chicago officials inked a $29.4 million deal with with a private security firm to build, staff, and operate the huge tents, which must be able to house between 250 and 1,400 migrants.
The federal government has already given Chicago and Illinois <a href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/columnists/2023/5/5/23713285/chicago-state-of-illinois-get-8-5-million-in-federal-migrant-grants-asked-for-up-to-191-million" target="_blank" rel="noopener">at least</a> $8.5 million for the migrant crisis.
In Denver, migrants have also arrived by the hundreds in recent weeks. Denver has <a href="https://www.axios.com/local/denver/2023/08/23/denver-increase-migrant-arrivals-august" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spent</a> at least $23 million on recent migrant arrivals.
