A Minnesota jury found a woman guilty of disorderly conduct after she repeatedly used the racial slur &#8220;n*gger&#8221; during a confrontation at a playground. 
Thirty-seven-year-old Shiloh Marie Hendrix was captured on video as a bystander confronted her for allegedly directing the racial slur at an autistic child. Although the alleged remark itself was not captured on video, the bystander urged Hendrix to repeat it while recording the encounter.
Rochester City Attorney Michael Spindler-Krage charged Hendrix with two counts of disorderly conduct, one for her alleged behavior toward the child and the other for her confrontation with the bystander. A jury acquitted Hendrix on the first count but convicted her on the second, finding her guilty of disorderly conduct for directing the racial slur at Omar rather than the child. 
She was sentenced to one year of supervised probation, fined $1,000, and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service. She faces a 90-day jail sentence only if she violates the terms of her probation.
The man who recorded the confrontation, Sharmake Beyle Omar, was previously charged in a sexual assault case involving a 16-year-old girl. Prosecutors later <a href="https://www.kimt.com/news/charges-dropped-against-rochester-men-accused-of-sexually-abusing-a-teen-victim/article_461bf354-a3ff-11ed-bedb-d329b9d4dcb6.html">dismissed</a> those charges &#8220;in the interest of justice.&#8221; 
According to the criminal <a href="https://fromthegman.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Hendrix-Complaint.pdf">complaint</a>, the confrontation began after an eight-year-old autistic boy took an applesauce pouch from Hendrix’s diaper bag. Both Hendrix and the boy’s father chased the child as he climbed onto playground equipment in an attempt to get away. Hendrix allegedly shouted at him and repeatedly used the racial slur. 
While recording on his phone, Omar asked Hendrix why she called the child the racial slur, noting that the boy was autistic. Hendrix replied that she used the word because “he acts like one” and said he had taken her son’s belongings. When Omar continued confronting her, Hendrix responded, “I don’t give a sh*t and f*ck off.” 
Hendrix’s attorney blasted the verdict.
“I think it’s pathetic,” defense attorney Brian Karalus <a href="https://x.com/Tomhennessey69/status/2080543001323978782">said</a>. “I think it’s sad. I think it’s sick … this is a fraud upon the community.” 
Karalus argued the government was “prosecuting a young lady for language,” and this trial was the result of cancel culture. He added that Hendrix’s choice of words was inappropriate but that there is a difference between inappropriate and illegal. 
Prosecutor Nicholas Shabel argued jurors should consider both Hendrix’s conduct and her language.  
Shabel argued that Hendrix&#8217;s “screaming at the child, her demeanor, her language all speak to this. All of those are appropriate for your consideration,” said Shabel.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) set up a GoFundMe for the child, raising more than $340,000. 
The incident drew backlash from conservatives. 
The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh <a href="https://x.com/MattWalshBlog/status/2080623002824200284">said</a>, “The Shiloh Hendrix case isn&#8217;t even a close call or a grey area. She was charged and convicted of a crime for saying a word. If that&#8217;s not a violation of the First Amendment, nothing is. This is one of the most straightforward free speech issues we&#8217;ve seen in a long time.”

Judge Tony Graf Jr. denied a request from Erika Kirk and her late husband&#8217;s parents, saying that he would not display in open court all of the evidence in the assassination of the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Graf said that the court would weigh evidence on a case-by-case basis and that only some would be displayed in the gallery for all of those present at the hearing.
&#8220;The court has considered the request that exhibits be displayed in real time to the courtroom. After careful consideration, the court determines that not all exhibits will be visually displayed to the gallery and notes that it will use a tiered method as described first, whether it will be admitted to the court for consideration as it relates to probable cause. Second, whether it will be displayed only to the gallery, and third, if it will be published through the camera, to the public at large,&#8221; Graf said.
In a win for the Kirk family and the prosecution, Graf also agreed that several key pieces of evidence — specifically text messages and Discord messages — could be released to the public, despite objections from the defense.
As the preliminary hearings continue for Tyler Robinson, the man accused of murdering Kirk last September at Utah Valley University, the Kirks submitted a filing through attorneys on Thursday. In it, they claimed that the victims of crimes — in addition to being allowed to be present in the courtroom during proceedings — should be allowed to see the evidence presented in open court.
&#8220;The Victim&#8217;s Family&#8217;s position is simple. At a minimum, every exhibit entered into evidence during the preliminary hearing must be visible to every person lawfully present in the courtroom,&#8221; the court filing read, noting that the family had waited months for the hearing to begin — and then, upon their arrival, found that they&#8217;d be unable to view some of the evidence.

This is not what anyone should want.&#8221;
The filing went on to argue that the family&#8217;s guaranteed right to be present in the courtroom and to observe the court proceedings carried no real weight if they were not also able to see the evidence that was being presented.
&#8220;The right &#8216;to be present&#8217; is hollow if the victim or his representative is physically in the room but is prevented from seeing the evidence the Court is receiving. A right to attend that does not include the ability to perceive what is happening is not meaningful presence at all,&#8221; the filing explained.

The attorney representing Erika Kirk and the parents of assassinated Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk asked the judge on Thursday to require that all of the evidence admitted in court be visible to everyone in the courtroom.
During the preliminary hearing that began earlier this week, multiple pieces of evidence have not been shown to the entire courtroom as the judge determines whether the case against Tyler Robinson will proceed to trial. Judge Tony Graf Jr. has allowed some videos to be played on a large screen in the courtroom, but <a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/crime/charlie-kirk-murder-suspect-dna-hearing/">other pieces of evidence</a>, including an alternate angle of the shooting, have been viewed only by the judge and attorneys on their computer monitors. Audio from the redacted videos played aloud for those in attendance.
&#8220;The Victim&#8217;s Family&#8217;s position is simple. Robinson’s attorneys argue certain videos could obstruct Robinson’s right to a fair trial. 
“We think this video is going to play a big role in the trial, and to allow the public to see it now would seriously impact our ability to get a fair trial,” said Robinson&#8217;s defense attorney Kathryn Nester. 
Parts of an interview with Lance Twiggs, Robinson&#8217;s transgender partner, were also withheld from public view after defense attorneys argued prosecutors intended to use the clips as evidence of a confession. 
&#8220;We are very concerned that the publication of what the state will call confessions at trial violates Mr Robinson&#8217;s due process rights,&#8221; Robinson’s lawyer argued. The Kirk Family’s lawyer countered, &#8220;To not be transparent here, to not be open, to not let the world see what happened will create doubt ​and distrust in the judicial system.” 
Judge Graf said he would reconsider showing the recording in its entirety if the case proceeds to trial. The partially redacted video will be shown in court on Thursday marking the first time the entire courtroom will hear the audio from Twiggs. According to prosecutors, Robinson was living with Twiggs at the time of the shooting and sent Twiggs a text message that appeared to be a confession to murdering Kirk, writing that he had &#8220;had enough of his hatred.&#8221;
According to court testimony, Robinson programmed an automated text message to be sent from his phone, instructing Twiggs to &#8220;Drop what you are doing, look under my keyboard.&#8221; Prosecutors also say Robinson <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-rules-on-tyler-robinsons-fight-to-shield-key-evidence-from-public?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Judge+Rules+On+Tyler+Robinson%E2%80%99s+Fight+To+Shield+Key+Evidence+From+Public">wrote</a> a letter to Twiggs, whom he referred to as &#8220;Luna.&#8221; The letter allegedly stated, “Luna, if you are reading this per my text, then I am so sorry. I left the house this morning on a mission, and sent an auto text. I am likely dead or facing a lengthy prison sentence. I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it.” 
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Robinson.

During Wednesday&#8217;s hearing, the family of slain conservative Charlie Kirk pushed for greater transparency, urging the court to publicly release interviews in-full with the transgender romantic partner of Kirk&#8217;s accused killer.
Jeffrey Neiman, attorney for Kirk&#8217;s widow, Erika Kirk, asked Judge Tony Graf Jr. to allow the full audio of Lance Twiggs&#8217; interviews to be played in open court rather than a heavily redacted version. Twiggs, who was granted &#8220;use immunity,&#8221; is cooperating with prosecutors and is expected to be an important witness in the case. Prosecutors say Robinson admitted to murdering Kirk in text messages to Twiggs after the shooting and left behind a handwritten note expressing his intent to kill Kirk before the attack.

Graf ultimately ruled that portions of Twiggs&#8217; interviews would be redacted before being presented during the preliminary hearing, meaning the public will hear only portions of the interviews. The judge also said that he would personally review the complete, unredacted interviews when determining whether prosecutors have established probable cause to send Tyler Robinson to trial for Kirk&#8217;s murder.
Notably, the ruling currently applies only to the preliminary hearing and does not determine what evidence a jury may ultimately see or hear at trial. Twiggs could also testify in person at Robinson&#8217;s trial.

Only two days into a preliminary hearing for the Tyler Robinson murder case and newly presented security footage and testimony are contradicting a conspiracy peddled by Candace Owens.
Owens has accused more than a dozen individuals and shadowy groups or governments of being involved in the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, while saying Robinson is being framed or used as a patsy. The late conservative&#8217;s widow, Erika Kirk, has notably been a routine target of Owens&#8217; unsupported theories.
Just days ago, Owens repeated her belief that Robinson was not on the Utah Valley University campus at all on the day Kirk was murdered.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t think Tyler Robinson was there,&#8221; she <a href="https://podscripts.co/podcasts/shawn-ryan-show/318-candace-owens-the-most-sued-woman-in-american-media?utm_source=chatgpt.com">told</a> podcast host Shawn Ryan. &#8220;I think he&#8217;s a total patsy. I think they get lookalikes. They get everybody to wear the same outfits. I believe he played a role, and what he did was he picked up clothes and he dumped them behind the Dairy Queen.&#8221;

During the interview, Owens again raised questions about whether Israel or other “heavy players” were connected to Kirk’s murder and cast suspicion on Erika. At one point in the same interview, Owens said she felt &#8220;gutted&#8221; because Erika never actually loved her late husband. Owens cited Erika&#8217;s decision to quickly step into a leadership role at TPUSA after the assassination as part of her reasoning.
During Tuesday&#8217;s preliminary hearing, which will determine whether prosecutors have enough evidence for Robinson to stand trial, a number of security videos showed a man on the Utah Valley University campus who authorities testified was Robinson.
One video appeared to show Robinson walking with a &#8220;limp,&#8221; according to David Hull, a former Utah State Bureau of Investigation agent. Notably, reports previously indicated that Robinson appeared to walk with a stiff right leg before the shooting, or with an unusual gait, indicating he was likely concealing a rifle under his clothing.
Another video presented in court shows the man believed to be Robinson climbing over the railing of the Losee Center and moving into a prone position just seconds before Kirk was fatally shot.
Security footage also showed a person believed to be Robinson seconds after Kirk was fatally shot. The person was seen running along the top of a campus building “before dropping down onto the grass and heading away from campus on foot, carrying something,” The New York Times reported.
&#8220;The video compilation (exhibit 12.4) of Tyler Robinson visiting UVU campus four times on 9/10 (the last visit stretching into the early morning hours of 9/11) will be submitted as evidence and broadcast to the media. Here’s the video,&#8221; TPUSA spokesman Andrew Kolvet said. &#8220;When you watch it, you&#8217;ll understand why the defense fought so hard against allowing it to be seen by the public.&#8221;
Robinson&#8217;s parents also recognized him from images released by law enforcement following the shooting, and Robinson apparently made statements that led his parents to believe he killed Kirk. Matt Robinson, the suspect&#8217;s father, drove his son to surrender himself to authorities.
Some independent journalists and conservatives — including those who were close to Kirk — slammed Owens for spreading the apparent lies about the case.

&#8220;Candace Owens led thousands of people astray and lied, claiming that Tyler never stepped foot on campus that day,&#8221; journalist Sarah Fields said. &#8220;This is embarrassing — for her and for everyone she effectively brainwashed.&#8221;
Without naming Owens, CEO of The Babylon Bee, Seth Dillon, commented on the mounting evidence against Robinson and those spreading falsehoods about the case.
&#8220;[T]here&#8217;s a reason so many people are unwilling to let the evidence speak for itself. The well was poisoned for exactly that purpose,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;The goal of the months-long internet &#8216;investigation&#8217; has been to pre-bunk the real one so that its findings, when they eventually surfaced, would be widely dismissed.&#8221;
&#8220;Shame on anyone who&#8217;s defended this malicious campaign as &#8216;just asking questions&#8217; or &#8216;the actions of a true friend,'&#8221; he added.
Unsurprisingly, Owens is denying the person in the video footage is Robinson. She is now suggesting the man is Lance Twiggs, Robinson&#8217;s trans-identifying lover. &#8220;The person walking in the video they are presenting is very clearly a TALL person. Well above 6 feet,&#8221; she wrote on X. &#8220;No way that is a 5’10 or 5’11 person. How tall is Lance Twiggs?&#8221;

Manhattan Institute fellow Colin Wright called Owens &#8220;unfathomably idiotic.&#8221;
&#8220;She thinks she has the ability to determine the height of a person to within 1 inch simply from a video,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Tyler Robinson might appear tall at first glance, but that&#8217;s because he&#8217;s skinny and lanky. Candace saying that he &#8216;looks to me to be 6&#8217;2 minimally&#8217; is just stupid.&#8221;
&#8220;&#8216;Looks to me&#8217;? Based on what method that allows for only 1 inch of wiggle room?&#8221; he continued to ridicule Owens. &#8220;She has no method, just vibes. It simply isn&#8217;t possible to determine how tall someone is from a video or photo that lacks a clear reference point.&#8221;
&#8220;I told you Candace would be spinning off endless conspiracies from the trial footage,&#8221; Wright added. &#8220;It has already started, and it&#8217;s only going to get a lot more insane.&#8221;

The weapon believed to have been used in the murder of conservative Charlie Kirk was wrapped in a towel that contained DNA from Tyler Robinson and his trans lover, Lance Twiggs, according to the FBI.
Robinson was living with Twiggs at the time of Kirk&#8217;s assassination, and authorities viewed messages between the two romantic partners on the day of Kirk&#8217;s assassination that appear to implicate Robinson in the killing.
During a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, prosecutors presented a report from the FBI that indicated DNA from Robinson and Twiggs was found on the towel that was used in an attempt to hide a rifle near the scene of Kirk&#8217;s assassination, The New York Times reported. Authorities don&#8217;t believe Twiggs, who is cooperating with police, took part in planning or carrying out the assassination.

Jennifer Faumuina, the state&#8217;s third witness, &#8220;testified that FBI DNA testing identified DNA belonging to both Tyler Robinson and his roommate, Lance Twiggs, on the towel wrapped around the rifle, as well as on the screwdriver recovered from the sniper perch.&#8221;
A video stream of the hearing shows Amanda Bakker, a forensic analyst for the FBI&#8217;s DNA lab, confirming that Robinson was the major DNA contributor for the towel and a screwdriver found after the murder, which also contained a much smaller amount of Twiggs&#8217; DNA.

Last year, Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray said Robinson&#8217;s DNA was found on the trigger and other parts of a rifle that was found near the crime scene. His DNA was also found on the fired cartridge casing and two of the three unfired cartridges, as well as the towel that the weapon had been wrapped in, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/live-updates/charlie-kirk-shooting-tyler-robinson-charges-court-hearing-utah/">reported</a>. Messages obtained by authorities reportedly show Robinson saying in a Discord chat that the rifle belonged to his grandfather.

Never-before-seen security footage played Tuesday during a preliminary hearing in the murder case against Tyler Robinson appeared to show Robinson walking with what authorities described as a &#8220;limp&#8221; just minutes before the shooting.

Agent David Hull testified that Robinson was &#8220;walking with a gait or a limp.&#8221; As the video played in the courtroom, the agent said the suspect appeared to be having difficulty walking.
Reporters inside the courtroom said the prosecution used surveillance footage to establish that Robinson was on campus four separate times on September 10, 2025, the day Kirk was killed.
&#8220;The timeline prosecutors are building is strong. Surveillance placing Robinson on campus before, during, and after the shot. Roof access, sniper position in the gravel, that screwdriver left behind, every piece fits,&#8221; Jack Posobiec reported on Monday. &#8220;Defense is already grasping at procedural straws.&#8221;
In another video played for the court, a person believed to be Robinson was seen &#8220;&#8216;rolling&#8217; over the railing of the Losee Student Center and moving into a prone position just seconds before Kirk was shot,&#8221; Neff posted.
Security footage also appeared to show a person believed to be Robinson seconds after Kirk was fatally shot. The person was seen running along the top of a campus building &#8220;before dropping down onto the grass and heading away from campus on foot, carrying something,&#8221; The New York Times reported.
The hearing will determine whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence to establish probable cause for Robinson to stand trial for Kirk’s assassination.

Notably, Kirk&#8217;s parents, Rob and Kathryn, and his widow, Erika, left the courtroom before the judge watched the footage. Jack Posobiec, a close friend to Kirk, attended the trial too, and also said Robinson &#8220;showed no remorse&#8221; and was &#8220;laughing&#8221; during the hearing.

The Texas Supreme Court last week revived a young woman&#8217;s case against medical professionals who put her on the path to have her body irreversibly damaged in the name of transgender healthcare, paving the way for similar lawsuits.
The unanimous ruling allows Soren Aldaco to continue her medical malpractice suit against her former therapist and Three Oaks Counseling. Her suit states that the defendants breached their fiduciary duties and that their medical interventions led to Aldaco’s “permanent disfigurement and profound psychological scarring.” Aldaco is seeking upwards of $1 million in damages.
Aldaco&#8217;s win is notable because the court agreed that the statute of limitations was more complex than the transgender medical industry argues. While the statute of limitations would have prevented Aldaco from suing after she was injured, the court agreed that lawsuits can continue in cases where a minor is put on a path to medical transition.
Aldaco, an activist who suffered greatly from a medical gender procedure, is no longer &#8220;timed out&#8221; of suing those who harmed her. The ruling could set a precedent for other detransitioners and puts the transgender medical industry on notice.
Independent Women&#8217;s Forum said the ruling &#8220;establishes a renewed lens for determining when the statute of limitations begins in cases involving minors who later allege harm from medical providers who facilitated irreversible &#8216;gender-transition&#8217; interventions.&#8221;
“Today the Texas Supreme Court unanimously ruled that my case deserves to be heard, and that providers implicated in harming vulnerable patients can’t twist the statute of limitations to escape accountability,&#8221; Aldaco said in a statement issued Monday. &#8220;This ruling is a watershed moment.&#8221;
&#8220;The Court’s opinion is already sending shockwaves far beyond Texas,&#8221; she added. &#8220;The direct impact will be felt here at home — but providers across the country, and federally, will now think twice about their responsibility to patients. And patients will see, through the model established here in Texas, that they deserve to be protected and taken seriously.”
Aldaco began identifying as transgender around 11 and was started on hormone replacement therapy at age 17, as outlined by Kelsey Bolar, a senior policy analyst at Independent Women’s Forum. At 19, Aldaco underwent surgery to remove her healthy breasts and, just two weeks later, ended up alone in an emergency room for eight hours as doctors reopened her wounds from the double mastectomy.
“At the time, I thought I was going to die,” Aldaco told Independent Women’s Forum. “I just remember being on zero pain meds at the time.”
“Her traumatic medical complications opened her eyes to the ills of so-called ‘gender-affirming care,’ which she said enabled her to believe hormones and surgery could provide her with the sense of self she craved growing up,” Bolar said of Aldaco. “Detransitioned and now working to heal from her ordeal through mindfulness, Soren has become a vocal critic of the ‘enabling’ she sees happening within the gender medical industry.”
The ruling comes on the heels of another high-profile victory for a detransitioner. Fox Varian received $2 million following a verdict in New York in January. Her case centered around the removal of her healthy breasts at age 16 for reasons of supposed transgender care.

In a stunning rebuke of one of America&#8217;s biggest airlines, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals handed down a <a href="https://firstliberty.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Brown-Opinion.pdf">blistering decision</a> this week, ruling that flight attendants Lacey Smith and Marli Brown deserve their day in a jury trial after Alaska Airlines booted them from their jobs for questioning the Equality Act.
The attendants were fired after Brown posted a comment on the company&#8217;s internal messaging board, saying the Equality Act would &#8220;endanger the Christian church&#8221; and threaten religious freedom. Smith asked the question — &#8220;As a company, do you think it&#8217;s possible to regulate morality?&#8221; The Equality Act, a bill proposed in 2019, sought to extend civil rights protections to people based on their so-called gender identity.
Alaska Airlines called their posts &#8220;hateful,&#8221; &#8220;offensive,&#8221; and &#8220;discriminatory.&#8221; One company VP testified that Brown&#8217;s use of the phrase &#8220;opposite sex&#8221; was discriminatory because — in his view — it implied only two sexes exist. A lawyer in Alaska Airlines&#8217; legal department declared in an internal email that &#8220;employees actually do not have the right to believe that LGBTQ rights are &#8216;immoral.'&#8221; A colleague shot back: &#8220;I 100% agree.&#8221;

Meanwhile, the flight attendants&#8217; own union — which typically defends employees — was privately cheering their destruction. The union&#8217;s top executive called Smith a &#8220;bigot&#8221; in text and told Alaska Airlines management to send her &#8220;bigoted a** packing.&#8221; Another union rep suggested putting both women in &#8220;a burlap bag and drop them in a well.&#8221; That same rep then showed up to represent Brown at her disciplinary hearing.
The appeals court wasn&#8217;t buying any of it. The judges found that a reasonable jury could absolutely conclude Alaska Airlines used its anti-harassment policies as cover to punish two women for their faith — especially given that the airline itself had invited employees to &#8220;openly share ideas&#8221; and &#8220;understand one another&#8221; on the very forum where Brown and Smith posted their remarks.
The court noted with particular withering clarity that Alaska &#8220;created a forum for employee discussion on controversial issues, then fired Brown after she made religious objections of the kind Alaska anticipated.&#8221; The Notice of Discharge against Smith — who had asked a single philosophical question — characterized her words as speech that &#8220;targets a group of individuals based on their legally protected characteristics.&#8221; A jury, the court said, could easily find that description &#8220;overwrought or inaccurate.&#8221;
Both women had exemplary records. Brown had never been disciplined once in eight years.
The case now heads back to trial. For Lacey Smith and Marli Brown, the fight for their careers — and their faith — is far from over.
But for the first time in years, they have a fighting chance.

So-called racial justice activist and civil rights attorney Lee Merritt was tapped by the Karmelo Anthony family to assemble the convicted murderer&#8217;s new legal team.
Anthony was convicted earlier this month for the murder of Austin Metcalf, 17, and has been sentenced to 35 years behind bars. The Anthony family has made clear that they will fight the conviction.
&#8220;Immediately after the conviction, Karmelo Anthony’s father reached out to me and asked for help assembling a new legal team to fight for his son’s future,&#8221; Merritt posted to X on Tuesday. &#8220;From that moment, we have been working nonstop to bring together experienced appellate and civil rights attorneys to review every aspect of this case and pursue relief through the courts.&#8221;
Merritt has worked with the families in high-profile racially-charged cases, including those of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. He&#8217;s also known for <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX_ked2jJGs">advancing</a> false rape and kidnapping claims against a Texas trooper, before body cam debunked the accusations.
&#8220;Today’s filing, formally replacing prior counsel and placing this new team on the record, is the first step in that process,&#8221; Merritt continued. &#8220;We remain committed to ensuring that Karmelo receives a full and fair review of his conviction and sentence, consistent with both the evidence and the law.&#8221;

The new legal team includes Texas NAACP President Gary Bledsoe, appellate lawyer Russell Wilson II, and civil rights attorney Brooke Cluse, as first reported by TMZ. Journalist Sarah Fields highlighted on Tuesday that Cluse joined Ben Crump Law in 2023 and currently serves as chief of staff and executive liaison to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/from-michael-brown-to-makhia-bryant-meet-the-lawyer-whose-false-claims-fueled-a-generation-of-black-lives-matter-violence">Crump</a>, another widely known racial activist and attorney. Crump was involved in the racially charged cases of George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor, and Michael Brown, wherein he notably propagated the false “hands up, don’t shoot!” narrative.

Days after Anthony was sentenced for the Metcalf murder, he claimed in a court filing that he was broke and couldn&#8217;t afford legal representation, despite the Anthony family receiving more than $635,000 through a crowdfunding campaign.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Gregory Carro said in a court hearing on Wednesday that Luigi Mangione will argue a “psychiatric defense” for his upcoming state trial over the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. 
The man who is painted by many on the Left as an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/luigi-mangione">antihero</a> will now seek to present evidence that he experienced “extreme emotional disturbance” at the time of Thompson’s killing, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/judge-reveals-luigi-mangione-pursue-psychiatric-defense-unitedhealthcare-ceo-assassination-case">Fox News</a> reported.
Mangione&#8217;s psychiatric defense could downgrade a murder conviction to a manslaughter conviction if the jury buys his argument. Mangione’s exact psychiatric issues are not clear, but the defense will have to inform the prosecutors of what malady the defendant suffers from and what caused his “extreme emotional disturbance&#8221; ahead of the state trial, which is set to begin on September 8.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/suspect-in-unitedhealthcare-ceo-assassination-charged-with-murder?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Suspect+In+UnitedHealthcare+CEO+Assassination+Charged+With+Murder">On December 4, 2024</a>, Mangione allegedly gunned down Thompson outside of the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. He was arrested five days later in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Evidence of premeditation was found in a notebook he had on him during the arrest, detailing how to carry out the murder and why. He also carried a manifesto against insurance companies, specifically mentioning “United.”  
The judge ordered the defense to give further details to the DA&#8217;s office by Thursday.
Dr. Marc Siegel, a clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, pointed out on <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6398666923112">Fox News</a> that Mangione said himself in 2025 that “he doesn’t have mental illness, that he doesn’t suffer from drug abuse of any kind. … They’re gonna hang this on the fact that he had spinal fusion surgery in 2023, and he had been suffering in pain, and isolation, and anxiety.” 
Siegel doesn’t believe any of Mangione&#8217;s claims would “meet the bar of extreme emotional disturbance if it hadn’t been diagnosed previously, where he had some kind of delusional or psychotic disorder as a result.” 
Legal analyst Kerri Urbahn sees the defense linking the “emotional disturbance” to Mangione’s spinal fusion surgery back in 2023, arguing that excessive angst and anger built up over time, and then he eventually “exploded — reacted and gunned down the CEO.”
Mangione has already received a favorable ruling in his federal case, when a judge dismissed charges in the case that made him eligible for the death penalty. Mangione pleaded not guilty to all state and federal charges.
