<h3>The Crisis Of The West Reconsidered</h3>
From Sydney to London to untold numbers of American college campuses, we hear incendiary cries for destroying the Jewish state, for a new Jihad or global intifada, all in the name of a purportedly noble and just “anticolonialist” struggle. Tens of thousands march in major European cities and with frenzied glee defend the indefensible. “From the river to the sea,” cry the mobs of Islamists, Palestinians, activists, and radicals, shamelessly announcing their own genocidal sympathies and intent.
The so-called crisis of the West is nothing new. In 1949, the political philosopher Leo Strauss lamented that the main currents of social science in the United States, and in the Western world more broadly, could not understand tyranny for what it was since they were blindly committed to the absurd position that “facts” had nothing to do with “values.” He added that a social science that could not speak reasonably — and forcefully — about the evil that is tyranny (especially in its modern ideological forms) was no better than a medical science that could not name and describe cancer. In the following decade, Raymond Aron and Hannah Arendt brought the full arsenal of political philosophy to bear on the “novel” form of tyranny that was totalitarianism and, in the process, mourned the indulgence of so many intellectuals toward it.
In 1964, James Burnham published a still-potent and relevant book called “The Suicide of the West,” where he took aim at Western self-hatred, romanticism about what would soon be called the Third World (some of which came to resemble “Caliban’s kingdoms,” in the striking and provocative words of Paul Johnson), and the degeneration of a once-noble and hardy liberalism into rank sentimentality, free-floating compassion, and a suicidal preference for our murderous and tyrannical enemies over our sometimes-imperfect friends and even our own country and civilization.

By 1970, the great English writer and journalist Malcolm Muggeridge wrote with eloquence and biting wit about “The Great Liberal Death Wish” in a seminal 1970 essay by that same name in Esquire. Muggeridge saw in the decayed liberal mind a perverse preference for nihilistic self-flagellation that led to the systematic “depreciating and deprecating” of “every aspect of our Western way of life.” God and all moral certitudes were dethroned even as a “Praetorian Guard of ribald students, maintained at the public expense,” were “ready at the drop of a hat to go into action, not only against their own weak-kneed bemused academic authorities, but also against any institution or organ for the maintenance of law and order still capable of functioning, especially the police.” These words could have been written in the summer of 2020 amidst the violence, mayhem, and ritualistic self-flagellation that followed the death of George Floyd, or in the hours and days after the savage Hamas assault on Israeli innocents on October 7, 2023. Muggeridge went on to opine that if and when the West falls, it will not be the result of a barbarian invasion nor the murderous enmity of Communists, fascists, and Nazis, but because of the suicidal death wish of a liberalism gone badly awry. It is hard to say that Muggeridge was wrong.
The better liberals, humane and decent people, are rightly shocked by professors, students, and activists who celebrate or apologize for the savage nihilism of Hamas or who think that these cruel ideologues and terrorists, heedless to the lives of their own people, whose deaths they relish for the propaganda value, somehow represent the legitimate interests of the Palestinian people. But what reason do we have for being surprised? English departments everywhere have given up teaching literature and humane letters and now specialize in the hate-filled jargon that defines “postcolonial” studies and discourse (more on this to come). “Intersectionality” is the order of the day — everyone who desires to be ideologically correct must unthinkingly parrot demands for CRT, gender ideology, abortion on demand, environmental extremism, sympathy and support for radical regimes and ideologies, contempt for religion and traditional morality, and a hatred of the West — above all for Israel, which is freely and ludicrously compared to apartheid South Africa and, most obscenely of all, Nazi Germany. DEI departments on most campuses enforce this new regime in a totalitarian spirit that is hardly “soft” or benign. For too long, economistic and anti-intellectual conservatives thought this had little to do with the “real world” and still proudly sent their children to utterly corrupt but still-prestigious universities and liberal-arts colleges. But as the journalist Andrew Sullivan likes to say, “We are all living on campus now.”
Political correctness has been omnipresent for many years now, but somehow former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, the quintessentially “moderate” politician, just noticed: after witnessing the temerity of the University of Pennsylvania’s response to its mob of anti-Semitic agitators, he decided he could no longer be a benefactor of the corrupt institution. He is a decent human being, and I am glad he is appalled by the fact that UPenn was incapable of truly, unequivocally condemning what Hamas so brutally did to innocents on October 7, 2023. But why precisely was he surprised? UPenn was only being itself when it shamelessly indulged the enemies of Israel — and Western civilization. This is a university that took down, as if in a parody of political correctness, a picture of William Shakespeare in its English department. It regularly encourages every manifestation of crude, ritualistic anti-Western and “anticolonial” ideology.
The institution has long hounded conservative and other independent-minded faculty (and students) for not toeing the party line. Progressive ideology requires absolute fealty to the cause. To be sure, many Arabs and Palestinians (and their Western sympathizers) casually give way to Jew-hatred. But progressives hate Israel mainly because they hate themselves and the Western world of which they are a part, though that self-loathing has quickly given way to fierce and crude anti-Jewish rhetoric and behavior. A figure long at the head of this charge, the radical intellectual and celebrated linguist Noam Chomsky, once accused Cambodian refugees of exaggerating the “excesses” of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge and wrote a foreword to a book by the French Holocaust denier Robert Faurisson. Chomsky had no real deep affinity for monstrous regimes, but he was adamantly committed, and remains committed, to the view that the United States, and the Western world more broadly, is the primary author of evil in the world. Chomsky embodies the reductio ad absurdum of self-flagellating radicalism. On the left, he is still perversely celebrated as a courageous truth teller.
Writing in “The Abolition of Man” in 1943, the Christian apologist and man of letters C. S. Lewis wondered why our contemporary “men without chests,” who had abandoned both reason and faith, who confused moral judgment with mere emotivism, and who belittled the virile virtues and the essential connections between reason and a spirited regard for liberty and civilization, were surprised by the inevitably destructive consequences of their doctrines. In words that stick to memory and that are as relevant as ever, Lewis writes:
<blockquote>In a sort of ghastly simplicity, we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.</blockquote>
Those false liberals who actively supported the progressivist degradation of our colleges and universities ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Those who marched with the totalitarian Marxists and Maoists of BLM (and who now predictably cheer Hamas on) in the summer of 2020 — including foolish white progressives such as Senator Mitt Romney — are complicit in the madness that has taken hold of our political culture. They are also fools, naïfs.
As the Russianist Gary Saul Morson argued in a powerful piece that appeared in The Wall Street Journal (“Dostoevsky Knew: It Can Happen Here,” October 18, 2023), those ideologues and intellectuals who justify the unjustifiable would do it to us if they had the chance. As Morson argues, the militant “anticolonialism” that is regnant today on our campuses and in bien-pensant intellectual circles is only the latest totalitarian ideology to justify the destruction of their “designated enemies.” And the soft leftists — the naïve fellow travelers — always go first. One thinks of the politically correct bourgeoisie in Saint Petersburg, as described so vividly in Solzhenitsyn’s “The Red Wheel” (March 1917), who proudly wore red and waved red flags (for two hundred years the color of the radical Left) to display their fine feelings and progressive leanings. They were the first to be condemned as class enemies and marched off to the camps in Lenin’s new totalitarian dispensation. It is high time for their American counterparts to be mugged by reality before it is too late for them — and for the rest of us.

Why Conservative Men Are Healthier And Happier — And What That Reveals About The Culture

The conservative movement lost one of its founding fathers this week.
Dr. Edwin J. Feulner built the intellectual foundation upon which modern conservatism stands, and gave us the institutions — like the Heritage Foundation and the Republican Study Committee — that work tirelessly to defend it.
As the Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, I stand on the shoulders of this giant. Ed Feulner didn&#8217;t just participate in the conservative revolution — he engineered it, fundamentally transforming how conservative ideas reach the halls of power and become the policies that strengthen families and communities across America.
Ed understood something that too many in Washington forget: people are policy. This was more than just a phrase to him, it was at the center of everything he built. He knew that lasting change doesn&#8217;t come from eloquent speeches but from developing principled leaders who will fight for American values year after year.
The Republican Study Committee exists today because Ed saw what was needed before anyone else did. Working as a congressional aide in the early 1970s, he recognized that conservative members of Congress needed an organizational home. A place to develop policy, coordinate strategy, and advance the principles that make America exceptional. As the Republican Study Committee’s founder, Ed created what became the largest caucus in Congress and the intellectual engine of the House conservative movement.
His influence on the Republican Study Committee and Capitol Hill at large cannot be overstated. Every bill we produce, every strategy session we hold, and every fight we wage bears his fingerprints. The Study Committee’s current membership of 189 House Republicans stands as a testament to his vision.
But Ed&#8217;s vision reached far beyond Congress. When he founded the Heritage Foundation in 1973, he built a beacon for truth in a city too often corrupted by power. Under his leadership, Heritage rapidly evolved into the strategic braintrust that would fuel Ronald Reagan&#8217;s conservative revolution. Ed transformed how conservative ideas move from theory to reality, creating an intellectual machine that could produce policy solutions at the speed of politics rather than the pace of academia.
What made Ed truly exceptional wasn&#8217;t just his strategic brilliance. It was his unwavering optimism and absolute refusal to be discouraged. He lived by another favorite saying: &#8220;In Washington, there are no permanent victories and no permanent defeats.&#8221; This recognition that the fight for freedom requires constant vigilance drove everything he did.
Ed embodied the best of American conservatism: principled without being rigid, strategic without being calculating, and always focused on mission over personal glory. He understood that our movement wins through multiplication and addition, not division and subtraction. He brought together diverse voices around shared principles, building lasting coalitions that could govern.
The bond between the Republican Study Committee and the Heritage Foundation remains strong today because of the foundations Ed laid. Both institutions continue advancing the conservative principles he championed, working hand-in-hand to develop policy solutions and train the next generation of leaders. The Republican Study Committee’s members regularly benefit from Heritage research, just as Heritage benefits from the committee’s legislative expertise. This is precisely the kind of mutually-beneficial relationship Ed envisioned.
Even in his later years, Ed remained actively engaged in the conservative cause. His continued involvement in preparing conservative policy blueprints demonstrated that his commitment never wavered. He understood that each generation must be equipped to carry the torch of freedom forward.
The institutions Ed built will endure, but more importantly, the leaders he mentored will continue his work. From the Republican Study Committee to the Heritage Foundation, from state capitals to corporate boardrooms, the men and women Ed influenced are advancing conservative principles with the same courage and determination he modeled.
As President Reagan once stated, Ed was &#8220;a combination of many things: intellectual, administrator, politician, diplomat, but most of all, dreamer and darer.&#8221; That combination of the ability to dream big and dare to make those dreams reality is what made Ed irreplaceable to our movement.
Ed&#8217;s legacy extends far beyond any accomplishment. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Linda, and a beloved father and grandfather. In his life and work, he showed us that devotion to limited government and freedom can build institutions that outlast any single generation.
The conservative movement will honor Ed&#8217;s memory by advancing his vision with unwavering commitment to the founding ideals that make America exceptional. The Republican Study Committee will continue the work he started, developing conservative policy and leaders for generations to come.
Feulner’s work lives on in all of us who believe America&#8217;s best days lie ahead. We will continue to fight for the values he espoused and the movement he built. As he was so fond of saying:
&#8220;Onward. Always.&#8221;

NASHVILLE — Daily Wire host Matt Walsh said during a keynote address on Friday night that conservatives “are called to courage in these times” to stand up to the deadly progression of leftist ideology.
Walsh’s speech at the “Courage Under Fire” event in Nashville was preceded by an address from Chiefs star kicker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-chiefs-kicker-harrison-butker-breaks-silence-says-he-will-continue-to-be-unapologetic-catholic?topStoryPosition=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harrison Butker</a>, who made his first public remarks on Friday night following his viral commencement speech at a Catholic university that caused a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftists-melt-down-over-nfl-kickers-speech-slamming-biden-lgbtq-pride-petition-demands-team-dismiss-him" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leftist meltdown</a>. In his speech, Butker said that the “shocking level of hate” he has received will not deter him from being “unapologetic” about his faith.
During Walsh’s speech, the Daily Wire host addressed the dangerous ideology of progressivism, which he said “progresses in the way that cancer progresses,” and told those in the audience that leftism can be fought against with “just enough courage.”
“All that matters to the progressive woke person is the individual ego, the individual&#8217;s desire,” Walsh said. “Everything in the world exists to service that and whatever stands in the way of his immediate pleasure and satisfaction, or whatever he perceives to be standing in its way, must be annihilated. It must not exist. It has no right to exist.”
Walsh added that he is regularly asked by conservatives what the woke progressives&#8217; end goal is when they try to redefine words, history, and basic biological reality.
“Well, there is no plan,” he said. “You can tear down the statues. You redefine the words, you bring the institutions crumbling down, sever the bonds of the family. And when that&#8217;s done, keep doing it in an endless cycle of destruction. See, there is no step two to this plan.”
The Left’s hatred for conservative family values was made evident in the past week as highlighted by Walsh’s fellow speaker, Butker. The three-time Super Bowl champion said during his speech on Friday, “If it wasn’t clear that the timeless Catholic values are hated by many, it is now.”
“In my seven years in the NFL, I’ve become familiar with positive and negative comments. But the majority of them revolve around my performance on the field,” Butker added. “But, as to be expected, the more I’ve talked about what I value most, my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I’ve become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made, and one I do not regret at all.”

The “Courage Under Fire” event, which was put on by Regina Caeli Academy and sponsored by The Daily Wire’s kids entertainment company Bentkey, was attended by numerous influential figures in politics and conservative media, including Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing, and Daily Wire host Michael Knowles. Walsh and Knowles were also presented with “Courage Under Fire Honorees in the Culture” awards at the gala.
“Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is being afraid and then acting in spite of it,” Walsh said in his speech. “And we are called to courage in these times — not very much courage, really not a lot actually. Nobody&#8217;s being asked to risk their lives at this point. I mean, we are all sitting here in this wonderful event and having a great time.”
“It&#8217;s actually not a lot of courage that we need. Shame on us all the more for failing to show it,” he added. “We just need enough courage. Just enough to speak the truth. And then just let the chips fall where they may. To stand up and say, ‘here&#8217;s what&#8217;s right.’ And then, let the consequences come — whatever they are.”

A conference featuring conservative views on subjects like abortion and gay marriage was <a href="https://adfinternational.org/nat-con-legal-challenge?p=46744">shut down</a> by police in Brussels after the mayor of the district where it was located claimed it was “ethically conservative” and focused on  the defense of “national sovereignty.”
“NatCon brings together public figures, journalists, scholars, and students who understand that the past and future of conservatism are inextricably tied to the idea of the nation, to the principle of national independence, and to the revival of the unique national traditions that alone have the power to bind a people together and bring about their flourishing,” the conference website <a href="https://nationalconservatism.org/natcon-brussels-2/about/">states</a>.
&#8220;The challenges to national sovereignty posed by the EU’s drive towards ever-closer union create a unique opportunity for political conservatism to present an alternative vision for Europe,&#8221; the conference website continues.
The Alliance for Defending Freedom filed an emergency legal challenge.
“ADF International is supporting an emergency legal challenge against the mayor’s order to shut down the conference, arguing it is contrary to the fundamental rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly &#8211; the pillars of truly democratic societies,” Paul Coleman, the Executive Director of ADF International and a speaker at the conference on National Conservatism, said in a <a href="https://adfinternational.org/nat-con-legal-challenge?p=46744">statement</a>.
“Open dialogue is supposed to be at the core of European politics; yet here in the capital of the EU, a thoughtful exchange on policy has been shut down by unilateral decree,” he continued. “This is a watershed moment where the true censorship crisis in Europe is on full public display. The crushing of political opinions opposed by those in power is something that should be relegated to the darker chapters of European history.”
“This is what cancel culture looks like,” Coleman said outside the third venue the conference had tried to use for the event. “This is the third venue that they have tried to put this conference on. The first venue canceled the event; the second venue canceled the event late last night and now this venue agreed to host the conference and the police, which you can see behind me, have shut it down &#8230; This is the definition of cancel culture; this is the state of free speech in Europe.”

Emir Kir, the mayor of the Saint-Josse-ten-Noode district in Brussels, stated he issued a shutdown order because the conference’s “vision is not only ethically conservative (e.g. hostility to the legalization of abortion, same-sex unions, etc.) but also focused on the defense of ‘national sovereignty,’ which implies, amongst other things, a ‘Eurosceptic’ attitude.”
He added that the conference had to be stopped “to avoid foreseeable attacks on public order and peace.&#8221;
“What we have is a systematic attempt to sabotage everything to do with the conference,” MCC Brussels Executive Director Frank Furedi, an organizer of the conference, <a href="https://brusselssignal.eu/2024/04/brussels-mayor-threatens-to-cut-power-to-conservative-event/">told</a> the Brussels Signal. “They then threatened to cut electricity and all that.”

According to first-hand accounts, President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> treated U.S. Gold Star families, whose loved ones passed away during the disastrous 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal, with a remarkable lack of compassion — even for Biden. Former President Donald Trump, on the other hand, honored those same families with the utmost respect and dignity on a recent night to remember.
Don&#8217;t take this author&#8217;s words for it, listen to the mothers and fathers of the brave American soldiers who died in 2021 after a bomb detonated at the Kabul airport, killing 13 of America&#8217;s bravest. Trump hosted relatives of those heroes at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey on August 31.
For example, per a <a href="https://thespectator.com/topic/gold-star-families-trump-bedminster-jake-tapper/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from The Spectator&#8217;s Matthew Foldi, Paula Knauss Selph — the mother of Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Knauss — was moved to tears as Trump wrote on her son&#8217;s photo, &#8220;You are My Hero.&#8221; Knauss Selph told Foldi that those are the exact same words she uses to describe her son.
Now, contrast that moment with Biden&#8217;s treatment of the anguished parent.
Knauss Selph, who now serves as the executive director of the Respect and Remember Foundation, met with Biden in the Oval Office at an event for Gold Star families in Washington, D.C., on Memorial Day 2022, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/afghanistan-gold-star-mom-i-wept-wanted-comfort-from-biden-he-suggested-a-photo-with-him-instead" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previously reported</a>.
At first, Biden said to her, “I can understand if you’re angry,&#8221; when they were face to face.
“I stood face-to-face with him, eyeball-to-eyeball. I began to weep,&#8221; she said, saying that she told him, “It should have never happened this way.”
“He stood there stoically,” she said of Biden. “Nothing out of his mouth except — well would you like to get a photo with me?&#8221;
Knauss Selph told Biden she would only agree to a photo if it was of her and the president at her son’s tombstone at Arlington National Cemetery.
He declined, claiming that the Secret Service would not let him do so.
After that experience, Knauss Selph blasted the current president, saying, &#8220;It’s a moral disgrace for a president not to have mercy on the people that he serves. It is a moral disgrace.&#8221;
She wasn&#8217;t alone in her sentiments toward the two presidents.
Christy Shamblin, the mother-in-law of the late Sergeant Nicole Gee, told Foldi, &#8220;Trump was way more than I expected.&#8221;
&#8220;The contrast is stark with the president we met at [Dover Air Force Base],&#8221; she added.
Recently, Shamblin testified before Congress, &#8220;The administration didn&#8217;t seem to know our story,&#8221; while adding that &#8220;when it came to the people in suits, it felt disingenuous and hollow.&#8221; 
Biden, readers will also remember, checked his watch repeatedly at Dover Air Force Base while there to welcome home to the 13 caskets of the deceased Americans.
That national embarrassment enraged the nation, but the families of those brave men and women were — understandably — particularly stung by the commander-in-chief&#8217;s lack of empathy.
“In reference to the checking of his watch, that didn’t happen just once,” Darin Hoover, who lost his son, Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gold-star-fathers-blast-biden-for-looking-at-watch-during-dignified-transfer-most-disrespectful-thing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in 2021. &#8220;That happened on every single one that came out of that airplane. It happened on every single one of them. They would release the salute, and he would look down at his watch on every last one – all 13 – he looked down at his watch.&#8221;
He added, &#8220;As a father, you know, seeing that and the disrespect, and hearing from his former leaders, one of his master sergeants said exactly what you just said, that this was avoidable, that they left them over there. They let them down, we can’t have that. It can’t happen ever again.&#8221;
Hoover also testified before Congress the same week after meeting Trump in late August.
&#8220;Between Congress and Trump, it turned into a really good week,” he told Foldi. “Lots of emotion and good times.”

Marlon Bateman, an executive advisor to the Utah attorney general, was also in attendance and provided more details as to what the night was like — again drawing a sharp distinction from Biden&#8217;s treatment of the families.
&#8220;We did not expect President Trump to join us, but to my surprise, he came up and joined us for dinner,&#8221; Bateman said. &#8220;Everyone erupted in cheers as he walked in. Lee Greenwood&#8217;s &#8216;God Bless The U.S.A&#8217; was blaring on the speakers. He proceeded to spend another couple of hours with us and even busted out an iPad to play songs for couples to slow dance to. He even went into his all-time favorite wrestling intros! At that moment I could see the anxiety, stress, and anger that these parents had carried for so long disappear from their faces. It was a moment of peace. They were there to celebrate the heroes they raised. Their babies grew up to be the best our country had to offer, and they were getting some of the recognition they deserved.&#8221;
Bateman added, &#8220;[Trump] did something for these families that the current administration has refused to do, and was incapable of doing — giving an overdue moment of recognition and solidarity for their children. Not a bullshit statement from the White House, not John Kirby sending his deepest condolences on CNN, not Joe Biden continually glancing at his watch while the bodies of their children were carried off the tarmac. He gave them hope that accountability and justice will be coming.&#8221;

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration recently released a report calling the withdrawal a &#8220;success&#8221; and Biden has said the withdrawal <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/08/14/1027696241/biden-said-the-u-s-withdrawal-from-afghanistan-would-be-safe-then-chaos-ensued" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was</a> &#8220;responsible, deliberate and safe.&#8221;
Of course, readers know the lapdog media will never cover this story — it paints too much of a black-and-white difference between Biden and Trump. Thank goodness for conservative press and social media to get the story out there.

<a href="https://www.siriusxm.com/clips/clip/74c6f1a3-0970-4a72-90ee-67ec2b60f52d/406b56d8-d019-4a2c-b063-446944a97939" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Speaking</a> at a “SiriusXM Town Hall” at New England College on Wednesday, former Vice-President Mike Pence called for the Republican party to stop adopting populist policies and return to the kind of conservatism that former President Ronald Reagan espoused and typified the Republican Party.
“Here within the Republican Party, I think we have a choice to make, and that is whether or not we are going to offer the American people a candidate and a standard bearer that will carry forward the common sense conservative agenda of a strong national defense: American leadership in the world; fiscal responsibility  and pro-growth policies; a commitment to traditional values and liberty and life, or whether or not we’ll follow the siren song of populism, unmoored to conservative principle,” Pence declared.
“Frankly, my former running mate and other candidates for the Republican nomination are beginning to move away from that conservative agenda, abandoning American leadership on the world stage, being willing to ignore the debt crisis that’s facing this future generations of Americans,” he continued.
In the eight years of the Obama presidency, the national debt <a href="https://www.thebalancemoney.com/us-debt-by-president-by-dollar-and-percent-3306296" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increased</a> $8.6 trillion. In the four years of the Trump presidency, the debt increased $6.7 trillion. Between President Biden’s inauguration and April 2023, the national debt has <a href="https://www.thehofstrachronicle.com/category/news/2023/5/23/understanding-the-national-debt-increase-under-president-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increased</a> roughly $3.5 trillion.
“And of course, there are those who want to marginalize the cause of life to simply being a states-only issue,” Pence stated.
“But for me, all of those issues have been central to this movement,” he asserted.
Noting that he had been a Democrat when he was young, Pence noted, “It was the voice of our 40th president, Ronald Reagan, it was the same common-sense principles that drew me to the Republican Party, and more importantly, haven’t just delivered victories for the GOP but they’ve actually delivered real prosperity and real security for the American people.”
“We’ve come to a Republican time for choosing, and we’re going to choose whether our party’s going to stay on that time-honored tradition of conservative principles or whether we’re going to slide in the direction of populism and be more like an echo, frankly, of the policies of the other party,” he said.

Once-unknown singer-songwriter Oliver Anthony has gone viral overnight with his song, “Rich Men North of Richmond,” with many conservatives hailing the song as an anthem for the working man.
Anthony’s song voices many struggles of working-class Americans. The song communicates the pain of being overworked for subpar pay, only to have the money “taxed to no end” and to see others cheat the welfare system.
The full performance was posted to the YouTube Channel RadioWV. In roughly 48 hours, the original video has acquired 1.7 million views on YouTube, as of press time. It has also been <a href="https://twitter.com/Chase_Steely/status/1689480353017176064" target="_blank" rel="noopener">viewed</a> over 2.5 million times on X.
In response to the success of the song, Anthony <a href="https://twitter.com/AintGottaDollar/status/1689826860971008000" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted to his X account</a>, “Rich Men North of Richmond has been uploaded to all major streaming platforms and will show up there in a few days. Im [sic] still in a state of shock at the outpouring of love I&#8217;ve seen in the comments, messages and emails. I&#8217;m working to respond to everyone as quickly as possible.”
Perhaps the most notable theme throughout the song is the great chasm between the elites and the average working man. The “rich men north of Richmond” in Washington, D.C., and New York City, among other cities, “don’t think you know” what is right, so “they all just wanna have total control,” Anthony sings. The song makes a very clear reference to Epstein Island when he sings, “I wish politicians would look out for miners, and not just minors on an island somewhere.”
The solemn tone and relatability of the song are underscored by Anthony’s incredible voice being complemented by the acoustics of the surrounding woods and his resonator guitar. He stands just under a deer blind while a few of his dogs lie next to him and listen.
Many prominent conservatives have come out praising the song. Daily Wire host Matt Walsh <a href="https://twitter.com/MattWalshBlog/status/1689714688886558721" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted to X</a>, “This is the kind of country music I like.” Walsh shared that he was listening to other songs Anthony has posted, saying, “Happy to report that his other songs are great too. Raw and poetic. The man expresses the pain that many forgotten Americans live with every day.”

Jason Howerton made contact with Oliver Anthony and shared some of Anthony’s story through a <a href="https://twitter.com/jason_howerton/status/1689836683943116800" target="_blank" rel="noopener">thread posted on X</a>. Anthony has struggled with mental health and alcohol in the recent past, Howerton said. Prior to the success of the song, he promised God he would get sober if God would help him pursue his dream, according to Howerton.

The political divide between high school boys and girls across America has widened tremendously in recent years, as more boys identify as conservative while girls are moving to the Left, according to a recent survey. 
Annual polling over the past three years conducted by <a href="https://monitoringthefuture.org/results/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Monitoring the Future</a> and the University of Michigan showed that more 12th-grade boys are identifying as conservative than liberal, while 12th-grade girls&#8217; liberal political affiliation continues to rise, The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/4125661-high-school-boys-are-trending-conservative/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The most recent survey showed that 23% of 12th-grade boys identified as conservative, while only 13% of senior boys considered themselves liberal. Around 30% of senior girls in high school identified as liberals in 2021 and 2022, up from 25% in 2020, according to Monitoring the Future. 
Psychotherapist Thomas Kersting <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6332233249112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> &#8220;Fox and Friends&#8221; that he&#8217;s not surprised by the study&#8217;s findings. 
“You look at … all the messaging in society and it’s sort of like everything is about advancing within minorities … and young men, young boys sort of being left out; they&#8217;re sort of being left behind,&#8221; Kersting said. &#8220;And then you have politicians out there saying things like the number one problem in America is white men and things of that nature, but I think 12th-grade boys are kind of seeing through this.” 
“We’re creating this idea that if you’re a male, then there’s something wrong with that and that you’re bad,” he added. 
According to Monitoring the Future, liberal high school boys outnumbered conservatives in the late 1970s, during the Jimmy Carter presidency, and for a brief time in the late 2000s, while President Barack Obama was in the White House. Since 2016, however, the trend toward conservatism for high school boys has grown considerably. 
High school girls, on the other hand, have drastically moved to the Left in the past decade, a trend also shown by recent Gallup <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3675477-young-women-are-trending-liberal-young-men-are-not/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">polls</a>. Young women are shifting Left as the Democratic Party doubles down on its commitment to ensuring abortion access after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade last summer. 
As boys in high school shift to the Right, fewer young men are graduating from America’s universities, which many conservatives believe have become beacons of leftist ideology. In the 2018-2019 academic year, just 74 men <a href="https://www.brookings.edu/articles/the-male-college-crisis-is-not-just-in-enrollment-but-completion/#:~:text=Over%201.1%20million%20women%20received,master's%20degree%2C%20relative%20to%20women." target="_blank" rel="noopener">received</a> a bachelor’s degree for every 100 women who completed their program. As of 2023, 64% of women at public universities were graduating compared to 58% of men. In overall enrollment, women are outnumbering men by almost 60% to 40%, <a href="https://hechingerreport.org/an-unnoticed-result-of-the-decline-of-men-in-college-its-harder-for-women-to-get-in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.

While high school boys trend to the Right and girls move to the Left, most high school students, regardless of gender, don’t consider themselves conservative or liberal. More than 40% responded to the liberal-conservative question on the survey saying, &#8220;None of the above” or “I don’t know.”

Daily Wire host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/candace-owens" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Candace Owens</a> sat down with controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate for an explosive interview released Friday.
During the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/owens-x-tate-the-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">three-hour sit-down</a>, Owens challenges Tate to answer for some of his most objectionable moments, including his part in filming a pornographic video and running an adult webcam business. The two also discuss topics such as abortion, pornography, transgenderism, and therapy culture.
Owens pushed Tate to explain his past mistakes, and while he expressed embarrassment and regret, he never offered an apology for the adult webcam business or the pornographic video.
“I’m not the kind of person that’s going to sit and apologize for his past. I believe all is well that ends well,” Tate told Owens. “I believe we’re humans, and we grow and we learn. I’d be a fool and I’d be disingenuous to sit here and say I was sorry for something I did in the past, and I’m not going to do that.”
At one point in the interview, Tate emphasized that he doesn’t view himself as a conservative.
“I would never consider myself a conservative from that standpoint. … I don’t wake up and stand there as a conservative figure,” he said.
The former kickboxer also talked about his views on masculinity during the interview and gave his thoughts on why so many young men and boys are drawn to his brazen personality. During the interview, Owens asked Tate about how he handles the popularity and power he has gained.
“Power and responsibility go hand-in-hand, and I do believe that I now have a huge platform, and with young boys, they’re exceptionally interested in my case,” Tate said. “I do believe to a degree I’m an anti-hero. I do believe that the more I’m attacked, the more credibility is given to me in the eyes of my fans.”
Tate, 36, is an American-British viral internet personality with the nickname “Top G,” who is known for his luxurious lifestyle and boasts over seven million followers on Twitter. He became well-known after being removed from Britain’s “Big Brother,” a reality TV show, as reported by the BBC. Since then, he’s grown in popularity and has been criticized by many on both the Left and Right for holding to a brash form of manliness that neglects the traditional definitions of masculine virtue.
In June, Tate made international headlines when he and his brother Tristan were indicted by a Romanian court on charges of rape, forming an organized crime ring to sexually exploit women, and human trafficking. Prosecutors allege Andrew and Tristan began operating a human trafficking ring in 2021, luring seven alleged victims into Romania.
They claim the accused used the “loverboy method,” which means they misled the women into thinking they were in an actual romantic relationship, NBC News reported. Prosecutors also allege Tate and the others coerced the women into taking part in pornography that was later shared on social media, the BBC notes.
The two were initially arrested — along with two alleged co-conspirators — in December and detained in jail until March, when they were placed under house arrest. Tate, his brother, and the two alleged co-conspirators deny all the allegations.

The number of Americans who identify as socially conservative has reached the highest level since 2012, according to a Gallup poll <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/506765/social-conservatism-highest-decade.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> last week.
The numbers are part of Gallup’s Values and Beliefs survey, which was conducted May 1-24 with a random sample of 1,011 respondents. It found that 38% of Americans identify as “very conservative” or “conservative” — up from 33% in 2022, 30% in 2021, and tied with 2012 numbers. This comes as the number of Americans who identify as “very liberal” or “liberal” dropped to 29% from 34% in 2022.
“For most of the past eight years, Americans were about as likely to say they were liberal as conservative on social issues,” Gallup senior editor Jeffrey Jones said. “This year, there is a more obvious conservative advantage. The shift is mostly due to increasing social conservatism among Republicans, at a time when social issues such as transgender rights, abortion and other hot-button concerns are prominent in the national public debate.”
Social conservatism for Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 had a 6% increase from 2021, while those aged 30-49 saw a 13% increase and those aged 50-64 saw an 11% increase. Americans over the age of 65 were the only age group that saw a decrease, dropping to 42% from 43% in 2021.
Similarly, the number of Americans who identify as economically conservative has reached 44%, up from 40% in 2022 and more than double the 21% of Americans who identify as “very liberal” or “liberal” economically, according to the poll. Seventy-nine percent of Republicans identified as “very conservative” or “conservative” when it comes to the economy, while 36% of independents and 16% of Democrats felt the same.
The Values and Beliefs survey also <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/507023/say-birth-gender-dictate-sports-participation.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> that the majority of Americans don’t believe transgender-identifying athletes should be able to compete against those of the opposite sex. According to the survey, 69% of Americans believe athletes should only be allowed to play on teams that conform to their actual gender, up from 62% in 2021.
Additionally, most Americans, 55%,  believe it’s “morally wrong” to change genders, compared to 43% who think it’s “morally acceptable.” The breakdown by political party on the issue shows that 84% of Republicans, 50% of Independents, and 29% of Democrats believe it’s morally wrong.
These numbers come as conservatives have been touting major wins in recent weeks regarding boycotts of various brands that have promoted transgender ideology, including Bud Light and Target. In late May, Target’s stock market value had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/targets-stock-market-value-takes-6-billion-hit-since-backlash-over-pride-collection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">taken</a> a $6 billion hit since it had received backlash for its “Pride” collection, while sales of Bud Light <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bud-light-sales-continue-to-plummet-may-soon-lose-status-as-number-one-beer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continued</a> to fall since it partnered with Dylan Mulvaney, a man who identifies as a woman.
