Former Secretary of State <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/condoleezza-rice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Condoleezza Rice</a> said in an interview this week that it was critical for the U.S. to not adopt isolationist policies because doing so will only work against the country.
Rice made the remarks during an interview on PBS&#8217; &#8220;Firing Line&#8221; with host Margaret Hoover while discussing a recent essay that she wrote.
&#8220;I wanted to say to the American public that I understand the sense we’re all tired. We’ve been through a lot,&#8221; she said as she highlighted what the U.S. has been through on the foreign policy front for the last several decades.
&#8220;But there isn’t really an option but for the United States to take on its role and responsibility as a dominant power that wishes to shape the international system,&#8221; she said. 
&#8220;You see, there’s this notion that if we leave the playing field, it’ll be okay. But in fact, great powers don’t mind their own business,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;And the great powers that would supplant American power are not ones that share our values, will not uphold our interests: China, Russia.&#8221;
&#8220;And so I just wanted to say to the American people, we have to get up and go back to bat because too much is at stake for the United States to turn its back on the international system,&#8221; Rice added.

The son of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/walmart">Walmart</a> founder Sam Walton has officially taken ownership of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nfl">NFL</a>’s Denver Broncos after ponying up a mile-high pile of money and earning the unanimous approval of fellow owners.
Rob Walton headed up a group that paid a record $4.65 billion for the team. Walton is the 19th richest person in the world with a Forbes-estimated net worth of $65 billion, and is now the richest owner in the league. Next is Carolina <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/CAR/carolina-panthers/">Panthers</a> owner David Tepper, who is worth $16.7 billion.
&#8220;We are grateful for the support and trust of the National Football League and the 31 other teams with today&#8217;s vote,&#8221; <a href="https://twitter.com/Broncos/status/1557065227673665536?s=20&amp;t=1k8Jbt0QuC6Wk8zkx3HX8A">Walton said in a statement.</a> &#8220;We couldn&#8217;t be more excited to join the Denver Broncos. The deal has been in the works since June, and the price tag is the highest ever paid for a sports franchise in the United States. The family trust of longtime owner Pat Bowlen was the seller. Bowlen bought the team in 1984, but died in 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Walton’s ownership group includes his daughter, Carrie Walton Penner, and her husband, Greg Penner, as well as former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/did-condoleezza-rice-just-get-one-step-closer-to-her-dream-of-nfl-commissioner-with-ownership-into-nfl-team">U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice</a>.
&#8220;We have tremendous respect for what Pat Bowlen has meant to the Broncos and look forward to building on this organization&#8217;s championship legacy,” Walton said.
The storied team, which was founded in 1960, has won three Super Bowl championships, in 1997, 1998, and 2015. Hall of Famers John Elway and Peyton Manning have quarterbacked the Broncos to NFL championships and other Denver players now enshrined in Canton include Floyd Little, Terrell Davis, Champ Bailey, and Steve Atwater.
The team posted a disappointing 7-10 record last season and missed the playoffs. But the offseason signing of former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has fans hoping for a post-season berth in 2022.

The former National Security Adviser has joined the ownership group led by Walmart heir Rob Walton that includes his daughter, Carrie Walton Penner, and her husband, Greg Penner, <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34226756/former-secretary-state-condoleezza-rice-joins-denver-broncos-new-ownership-group">ESPN</a> reported on Monday. The group purchased the Broncos for $4.65 billion in June.
&#8220;We&#8217;re pleased to welcome former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to our ownership group,&#8221; a statement from Walton read. &#8220;A highly respected public servant, accomplished academic and corporate leader, Secretary Rice is well known as a passionate and knowledgeable football fan who has worked to make the sport stronger and better.&#8221;

Rice, who previously served as provost of Stanford University, worked in former President George W. Bush&#8217;s administration as the Secretary of State from 2005-2009. She was also part of the College Football Playoff Committee from 2013-2016.
Rice has been a longtime football fan of the Cleveland Browns and the NFL. In 2002, Rice made it clear that her dream job would be replacing Paul Tagliabue as NFL Commissioner, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2002/04/17/sports/on-pro-football-dream-job-for-rice-nfl-commissioner.html">The New York Times</a> noted.
&#8220;That&#8217;s absolutely right,&#8221; Rice shared at the time. &#8220;Though not immediately and not before Paul Tagliabue is ready to step down. I want to say that for the record.&#8221;
&#8220;I think it would be a very interesting job because I actually think football, with all due respect to baseball, is a kind of national pastime that brings people together across social lines, across racial lines,&#8221; she added. &#8220;And I think it&#8217;s an important American institution.&#8221;

Condoleezza Rice, a former Secretary of State and current Director of the Hoover Institution, slammed Critical Race Theory during an interview on ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View&#8221; on Wednesday, saying that it is wrong to make white people “feel guilty” over the past and it is wrong to make black people feel “disempowered by race.”
Rice made the remarks while discussing the issue of whether parents needed to have more influence over what is being taught in schools.
&#8220;But if I could take a moment to talk about the whole issue of Critical Race Theory and what is, and is not being taught, I come out of an academic institution, and this is something that academics debate. What is the role of race and so forth?&#8221; Rice said. &#8220;And let me be very clear; I grew up in segregated, Birmingham, Alabama. I couldn’t go to a movie theater, or to a restaurant with my parents. I went to segregated schools till we moved to Denver. My parents never thought I was going to grow up in a world without prejudice, but they also told me, &#8216;That’s somebody else’s problem, not yours. You’re going to overcome it, and you are going to be anything you want to be.&#8217; And that’s the message that I think we ought to be sending to kids.&#8221;
&#8220;One of the worries that I have about the way that we’re talking about race is that it either seems so big that somehow white people now have to feel guilty for everything that happened in the past. I don’t think that’s very productive,&#8221; Rice continued. &#8220;Or black people have to feel disempowered by race. I would like black kids to be completely empowered, to know that they are beautiful in their blackness, but in order to do that, I don’t have to make white kids feel bad for being white. So somehow, this is a conversation that has gone in the wrong direction.&#8221;

And one of the key issues up for debate is how much of a voice parents should have in their child’s school curriculum, especially when it comes to subjects like sex education, and Critical Race Theory. I thought they didn’t teach Critical Race Theory until they went like law school or something.
Condoleezza Rice: I sure hope not, because I’m not certain seven year olds need to learn it.
Whoopi Goldberg: It just sounds crazy to me. But the question is, do parents need more influence here, or should they leave the lesson planning to the pros?
Joy Behar: Well, I was a teacher and there is a curriculum that teachers follow, and it’s studied by supposedly experts. I have a lot of education credits because you learn how to teach, and you learn your subject. So you can’t really pick that up against a parent who just is annoyed that you’re teaching “To Kill a Mockingbird,” or whatever the curriculum says. You can’t have the parents interfering to that extent in the curriculum, but it’s nice to hear from them — but if they are adamant and they don’t want you to teach what is going to be taught, period, they’re going to have to homeschool their kids because this is not going to wash.
Condoleezza Rice: Well, they’re actually homeschooling them in increasing numbers. And I think that’s a signal. First of all, parents ought to be involved in their children’s education.
Joy Behar: Yes, they should.
Condoleezza Rice: Their children are in school seven hours; that’s a very formative period. And I think parents ought to have a say. We used to have parent-teacher conferences. We used to have PTAs. There are lots of ways for parents to be involved, and they should be. Condoleezza Rice: Yeah. You know, there’s a little bit of, in order for black kids who, quite frankly, for a long time, the way they were portrayed, the way their history was portrayed, it was second class citizenship.
Joy Behar: Of course.
Condoleezza Rice: But I don’t have to make white children feel bad about being white in order to overcome the fact that black children were—
Joy Behar: How does that happen?
Sara Haines: We have a couple of examples here. In Cupertino, California, in an elementary school, third-graders are instructed to rank themselves based on their power and their privilege. California’s Department of Education is proposing to eliminate opportunities for accelerated math in the name of equity. In Greenwich, a white bias survey is handed out to seventh grade English class. A New York private school is separating by race, gender, and ethnicity, white identifying group, met with a white consultant who displayed a slide that named supposedly characteristics of white supremacy. An equity statement from the school district of Palm Beach County outlined the initiative dismantling structures rooted in white advantage. It’s happening across the country.
Whoopi Goldberg: But again, if you have a teacher, history is going to be taught.
Sara Haines: Absolutely, and it should be taught.
Whoopi Goldberg: And as we were talking earlier, when you go to Texas, you talk to Mexican kids who feel like crap because they’re being told they’re less than because of the Alamo. The whole idea of teaching history is so we don’t repeat it. So, I think that if you’re a good teacher, you don’t teach to make a white kid feel bad, you’re supposed to say, “Listen, you didn’t do any of this, but you should know what happened.” And make sure, along with black kids and Native American kids and all the colors that be in school.
Condoleezza Rice: I have no problem with letting people know what happened.
Whoopi Goldberg: Yes.
Condoleezza Rice: But let’s remember, history is complex right?
Whoopi Goldberg: It is.
Condoleezza Rice: Human beings aren’t angels now. And they weren’t angels in the past, and so how we teach about our history is also important.
Whoopi Goldberg: But there is no way to hide the fact that white people owned black people. There’s no way to hide that—
Condoleezza Rice: [crosstalk 00:05:13] Of course not.
Sunny Hostin: [crosstalk 00:05:13] And I think that’s been issue that there’s been this sort of roll back of history. People want to hide history.
Condoleezza Rice: Oh, come now.
Sunny Hostin: Yes. That is true.

Sunny Hostin: And what we are seeing is this rollback of history; parents don’t want children to hear about the real history. And when we teach children about the real history, I think that is when we will really have true racial reconciliation.
Condoleezza Rice: People are being taught the true history. But I just have to say one more thing; it goes back to how we teach the history.
Whoopi Goldberg: That’s what I’m saying.
Condoleezza Rice: We teach the good, and we teach the bad history. But what we don’t do is make seven and 10 year olds feel that they are somehow bad people because of the color of their skin. We’ve been through that, and we don’t need to do that again.
Whoopi Goldberg: Well, we don’t want anybody to feel that. That’s the idea.
Joy Behar: That doesn’t seem to be part of the plan.
Condoleezza Rice: Oh, it is part of the plan. I’m sorry.
Joy Behar: I mean, in Germany, they teach the Holocaust to every student.
Condoleezza Rice: Of course.
Joy Behar: I’ve met a German girl one time—
Condoleezza Rice: And we teach slavery to every student.
Joy Behar: And a school trip is a trip to Auschwitz, or Dachau. They learn about their history, and there is not two sides to the story.
Condoleezza Rice: We all have to learn about our history, but we also have to recognize—

Condoleezza Rice, who served as a national security advisor and then secretary of state during the Bush years, detailed Sunday why she believes our involvement in Afghanistan was necessary in maintaining peace at home and why it was the wrong time to withdraw.
The commentary was preceded by Rice rebuking so-called &#8220;endless war&#8221; rhetoric about Afghanistan, namely from President Joe Biden.
To combat such rhetoric, Rice said she would have made an argument about taking the war to our enemies, instead of having them bring the conflict to our land, as well as underscoring how it was in our national security interest to stay in Afghanistan, though a happy byproduct was helping the Afghan people.
The former secretary of state noted that she wished this argument was communicated better and more &#8220;forcefully&#8221; from the Bush administration.
&#8220;Here&#8217;s the argument I would have hoped we would have said,&#8221; Rice told Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro on “The Ben Shapiro Show: Sunday Special.&#8221; &#8220;We are a country that benefited for a couple of centuries by our great oceans protecting us and peaceful neighbors to the north and the south. We found out on September 11th that we weren&#8217;t protected. We decided we were going to take the war to them, so we didn&#8217;t have to fight it on our soil.&#8221;

&#8220;That means that we need to forward deploy our forces to fight them out there, so we don&#8217;t have to fight them in here. That means that we may have to deploy small numbers, contingents of American forces, intelligence assets, and military hardware forward in places like Afghanistan, where we can, with allies from around the world, as well as with Afghan allies, continue to prosecute the war on terror, so we don&#8217;t have to prosecute it at home.&#8221;
&#8220;I wish somebody had made that argument,&#8221; Rice said. &#8220;Maybe we should take responsibility, Ben, those of us in the Bush administration, for not making that argument forcefully enough.&#8221;
The former diplomat noted that the Bush administration was &#8220;pleased with the good we were doing for the Afghan people,&#8221; but emphasized that &#8220;they did a lot of good for us, too,&#8221; referring to our efforts on their territory that she argues kept the U.S. safe for some 20 years.

Speaking to Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro on &#8220;The Ben Shapiro Show: Sunday Special,&#8221; Condoleezza Rice, who served as a national security advisor and then secretary of state during the Bush years, criticized the Biden administration&#8217;s botched and fatal withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Rice, who said she disagreed with the decision to pull out troops from the region, slammed President Joe Biden for basic flaws in the withdrawal.
&#8220;I think the real issue here is that, even if one believed that it was time to withdraw &#8212; which I actually don&#8217;t believe it was time to withdraw &#8212; but if one believed that it was time to withdraw, this could have been done in a more orderly fashion,&#8221; Rice told Shapiro. &#8220;For instance, we know that the Taliban don&#8217;t fight in the winter; there is a fighting season in Afghanistan. It would have been perfectly logical to wait until they had gone back into the mountains of Pakistan.&#8221;
&#8220;I think it would have been wise to hang on to Bagram [airbase] &#8212; maybe even some of our other seven airfields that we had there, so that transport of people out could have been slower, more orderly, could have taken place from more secure locations,&#8221; she continued.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve been to Hamid Karzai International Airport,&#8221; Rice noted, &#8220;it&#8217;s not a place that you would want to try and secure. &#8230; I think that there were ways to do this in a fashion that wouldn&#8217;t have seen the precipitous fall of Kabul, and where we wouldn&#8217;t have had the kind of chaos that we had at the airport.&#8221;
Later in the interview, while speaking of Obama-era surges she described as &#8220;half-hearted,&#8221; Rice criticized leaders telegraphing to the enemy their time of exit.

&#8220;The other thing is, I&#8217;ve never understood this idea that you telegraph to your enemy, we&#8217;re only staying for this long and then we&#8217;re going to start to withdraw, and we&#8217;re retreating to this place,&#8221; the former secretary of state said. &#8220;It&#8217;s as if during World War II we started broadcasting to the Germans or the Japanese exactly what we planned to do with the battle plan.&#8221;
&#8220;That tendency to want to talk about where we&#8217;re moving to and how we&#8217;re going to retrench and when we&#8217;re going to withdraw, I think has been really one of the most pernicious elements of our military policy over the last several years,&#8221; Rice asserted.

Lastly, Rice emphasized the damage the Biden administration has done for America&#8217;s credibility, particularly with her allies.

&#8220;Our allies, who apparently weren&#8217;t really consulted properly, but most importantly had signed on to this 20-year war, are now wondering about us,&#8221; Rice stated bluntly. &#8220;And it&#8217;s going to take some work to rebuild those relationships &#8212; and you can&#8217;t just do it with words. I&#8217;m a former diplomat; I believe in diplomacy, but when it comes to some of the challenges out there where we have bad actors that might try to exploit, it&#8217;s going to require some action, too.&#8221;
&#8220;Our credibility&#8217;s taken a hit, and we just have to understand that and move on from there.&#8221;

During her commentary on the botched Biden exit from Afghanistan, Rice made it a point to emphasize that the U.S. Military did &#8220;heroic work&#8221; under &#8220;extraordinarily difficult circumstances.&#8221;
&#8220;I do want to say the men and women of the American Armed Forces, as always, did heroic work to get as many people out as they did under extraordinarily difficult circumstances &#8212; chaotic circumstances, where there was no way for force protection.&#8221;

Condi Rice Hits Basic Flaws In Biden Withdrawal: Why Not Wait Until Winter? Why Telegraph ‘Out’ Date

Earlier this month, a group of Stanford University professors presented and published a memo accusing Hoover Institute fellows of being conservative, which they are, but argued they needed to be censured because the majority of the Stanford community disagreed with their views.
It appears the professors’ attempt to silence the Hoover fellows has failed, <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2021/03/01/stanford-mobs-attempt-to-cancel-hoover-institution-scholars-fails/">according to The Federalist</a>.
“Despite a months-long campaign of demonization directed at Victor Davis Hanson, Niall Ferguson, and Scott Atlas — amplified with support from The Stanford Daily — the assault ended without condemnation of the trio or Hoover,” the outlet reported.
As the three fellows <a href="https://stanfordreview.org/atlas-ferguson-hanson-stanford-free-speech/">wrote</a> last week, Stanford’s president, provost, and former provost defended the think tank and academic freedom in general.
Instead of the public condemnation and silencing demanded by the Stanford professors, Provost Persis Drell and Hoover Institute director Condoleezza Rice were asked to “to present a report to the body later this year about ‘increasing interaction’ between the university and the think tank,” The Federalist reported.
This is far from the “faculty-controlled committee” the professor’s wanted to “investigate Hoover” and its fellows.
As The Federalist noted, this “isn’t a victory for academic freedom over the forces of groupthink repression.”
“Rather, it’s a demonstration of the vulnerability of the vast majority of scholars who dissent from leftist orthodoxy and aren’t ensconced in a well-funded independent institution,” the outlet wrote.
As The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/stanford-university-is-trying-to-silence-a-conservative-think-tank-because-the-liberal-community-disagrees-with-their-opinions">reported</a>, the professors’ accusations were able to malign the three Hoover fellows. It is also not the first time Stanford has attempted to cut ties with Hoover, a public policy think tank <a href="https://www.hoover.org/">focused on</a> “promoting the principles of individual, economic, and political freedom”:
<blockquote>In February 2019, for example, the university’s faculty senate heavily criticized Hoover for being conservative, calling its ideological adherence to conservative principles “intellectually bankrupt.” This month, the student-run newspaper Stanford Daily attacked Hoover fellows “without contacting them and giving them a reasonable amount of time to respond, in contravention of the paper’s own <a href="https://www.stanforddaily.com/our-policies-and-standards/">“Policies and Standards,”</a> the fellows wrote. In November, the paper’s editorial board <a href="https://www.stanforddaily.com/2020/11/23/its-time-for-stanford-to-separate-itself-from-hoover/">called</a> on Stanford “to separate itself from Hoover.”
In addition to the public attacks, the fellows wrote, they are also excluded from Stanford’s Academic Council even though they are also fellows at Stanford. Hoover fellows are also not represented on the faculty senate “unless they hold a joint appointment with a Stanford department” and are therefore not able to defend themselves from faculty attacks.</blockquote>
The professors accused Atlas of violating “the American Medical Association’s standards for ethical medical conduct” while serving as an adviser to President Donald Trump and accused him of being helping to cause the deaths of “tens of thousands of Americans.”
They accused Hanson of writing articles that “formed the backdrop to an insurrection that cost 5 lives and threatened the lives of Representatives, Congressional staff, and the Vice President, as well as our constitutional democracy.” Those articles actually pointed out issues with mail-in and early voting and changes to state voting laws — problems they say were also acknowledged by scholars at Stanford University Law School. Hanson, they wrote, never questioned the legitimacy of the election and condemned the January 6 riot at the Capitol.
Finally, they accused Ferguson of “conspire[ing] with College Republicans to conduct ‘opposition research’ on a Stanford undergraduate.” The fellows note that the conspiracy never happened and the research was never conducted.

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice joined the chorus of black Republicans criticizing the Left for telling black people how they should think.
Speaking with Peter Baker of The New York Times at the Aspen Security Forum, Rice said she hopes for a day when people will not harbor preconceived notions based on people&#8217;s race.

&#8220;I don&#8217;t really care if we&#8217;re colorblind, but I would like to get to the place that when you see somebody who is black, you don&#8217;t have preconceived notions of what they&#8217;re capable of, who they are — by the way, what they think, which is I think a problem of the left,&#8221; Rice said, as reported by <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/condoleezza-rice-jab-liberals-assuming-how-black-people-should-think">Fox News</a>. &#8220;You look at somebody who&#8217;s black and you think you know what they think, or you at least think you know what they ought to think.&#8221;
Though Rice did not mention him by name, the comment comes several months after the former vice president told radio host Charlamagne tha God that black people actually &#8220;ain&#8217;t black&#8221; if they vote for President Trump over him.
Rice referred to slavery as a &#8220;birth defect&#8221; of America that has contributed to inequities in education, policing and economic opportunities. To tackle this problem, she, however, extolled the practice of school choice.
&#8220;I am not one who believes you can just sort of &#8216;take on systemic racism,&#8217; I don&#8217;t even know how to start,&#8221; Rice said. &#8220;I do think you can take on the impact of an educational system for minority kids that leaves most of them behind. I think you can take that on. But people might not like my answer. My answer is: Let&#8217;s do school choice in a big way.&#8221;
This past June, President Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-president-trump-school-choice-is-the-civil-rights-issue-of-our-time">referred to school choice</a> as the &#8220;civil rights issue of our time.&#8221;
“When you can have children go to a school where their parents want them to go, and it creates competition, and other schools fight harder, because all of a sudden they say, ‘Wow, we’re losing it, we have to fight hard,&#8217;” the president said. “It gets better in so many different ways, but there are groups of people against that. You have unions against it, you have others against it, and they’re not against it for the right reasons, they were against it for a lot of the wrong reasons.”
Rice voiced her support for removing Confederate monuments and renaming some military bases, such as Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Fort Hood in Texas. She denounced efforts to take down monuments like the Emancipation Memorial in Washington, D.C.
&#8220;I actually don&#8217;t know why anybody wants to defend the Confederacy and Confederate monuments,&#8221; Rice said. &#8220;I also don&#8217;t know why anybody wants to tear down a statue of Abraham Lincoln and slaves, which was actually funded by freed slaves. So this has gotten a little out of control, frankly, and I don&#8217;t want to be the Soviet Union where we&#8217;re trying to erase history.&#8221;

Condoleezza Rice: ‘A Problem Of The Left’ Is Telling Black People How To Think

Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban appears in a player-created video posted to the team&#8217;s official social media accounts that promotes the Black Lives Matter message.
&#8220;The idea came from a number of conversations in the past few weeks following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis,&#8221; AL.com reported. &#8220;The football program held video calls with prominent Black voices including Condoleezza Rice, Charles Barkley and Stephen A. Smith and their message was clear: use your platform for positive change.&#8221;
&#8220;The leadership group of veteran players and other star players filmed their parts on Wednesday, and it was edited for release early Thursday afternoon,&#8221; the local paper added. &#8220;The message was one of unity, honoring the past and building a better future for race relations. It calls for equality and the end of brutality and ended with a simple message repeated by several players and appeared on the screen.&#8221;
The video features numerous players from the team who read different parts of the script, which was written by offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood (transcript below).
&#8220;In this moment in history we can’t be silent, we must speak up for our brothers and sisters, for our sons and daughters,&#8221; Saban said, later adding, &#8220;Until I listen with an open heart and mind, I can’t understand his experience and his pain.&#8221;
The video concludes with numerous players saying, &#8220;All lives can’t matter until black lives matter.&#8221;

On Sunday, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice appeared on CBS’ “Face The Nation,” where host Margaret Brennan noted that Russia, Iran, and China were using the images of the riots in American cities as proof of a racial divide in America. Brennan then asked, “Do you see this racial divide as a national security threat to us?”
In a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/full-transcript-of-face-the-nation-on-june-7-2020/">blistering response</a>, Rice utterly rejected the concept that those countries and Europeans who lambast the United States had any moral leg to stand on. Rice stated:
<blockquote>I would say to those, particularly, in places like China and Russia and Iran, who may want to use this for propaganda, let&#8217;s not be absurd. This is not Tiananmen Square where you&#8217;ve mowed down people who disagreed with the government. This is not the invasion of Crimea where you took land from your neighbor. This is not the Green Revolution in Iran where you killed people wantonly because they wouldn&#8217;t agree with the theocratic government.
And I would even say to our friends abroad, in places like Europe, where I&#8217;m seeing demonstrations in support of what is happening here, thank you for your support, but please look in the mirror. Please ask yourself, in countries in Europe and countries all across the world, what are you doing about racial and ethnic in — inequality in your own circumstances?</blockquote>
She continued, “America has gotten better because we have been willing to confront our problems. And we&#8217;re going to confront our problems again. We&#8217;re confronting them now. And I think we will move forward this time. But I — I really don&#8217;t need to be lectured by Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping about peaceful protest when they have themselves used their own force just because people wanted to criticize the government. That is not is what — that is not what is happening here.&#8221;
Rice added, “I&#8217;ve heard the President talk about the resilience of Americans. I&#8217;d love to hear more of that. Twitter and tweeting are — are not great ways for complex thoughts, for complex messages. When the President speaks it — it needs to be from a place of — of thoughtfulness, from a place of having really honed the message so that it reaches all Americans. And, by the way, not just the President. I would love to hear this from our leaders in Congress on both sides of the aisle. I would love to hear it from mayors and from governors and from others. Leaders at this particular point need to do everything that they can to overcome, not intensify our divisions.”
In May 2018, Rice <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/international/middle-east-north-africa/385626-condoleezza-rice-defends-trump-leaving-iran">said</a> of the furor surrounding President Trump&#8217;s push ti exit the dangerous Iran nuclear deal, &#8220;I don’t think it’s the end of the world if the administration leaves the agreement.” She stated she would not have signed on to the agreement as the Obama administration had, adding that  the deal’s verification methods “were not very strong &#8230; The administration’s been worried about this agreement from the very beginning and there’s reason to be worried about the agreement.&#8221;

Former Secretary of States Condoleezza Rice ripped Russia, Iran, and China during a CBS News interview on Sunday for trying to use the death of George Floyd to create propaganda.
During the interview with host Margaret Brennan, Rice also noted that there was &#8220;no excuse for the criminality and for the looting&#8221; that have hit America&#8217;s inner cities during the violent riots over the last couple of weeks.
&#8220;Madam Secretary, you know, some of America&#8217;s adversaries, Russia, Iran, China, they are using the images of what happened to Mr. Floyd and what is happening in the streets of American cities right now in their own state propaganda,&#8221; Brennan said. &#8220;Do you see this racial divide as a national security threat to us?&#8221;

FORMER SECRETARY OF STATE CONDOLEEZZA RICE: It&#8217;s a pleasure to be with you.
MARGARET BRENNAN: You&#8217;ve written that there- there seems to be something different about this moment. What do you think is different?
RICE: Well, I think what&#8217;s different is that this, as I said recently, people are a little bit sick and tired of being sick and tired, to quote the great civil rights leader, Fannie Lou Hamer. And I think that is leading people of various backgrounds, different colors, different experiences to say how can we really make the outcome different this time? And it&#8217;s leading people to look at questions about our criminal justice system, about the justice of our institutions. But more importantly, it&#8217;s looking- having us look in the mirror at questions about race. It&#8217;s a very, very deep and abiding wound in an America that was born with a birth defect of slavery. And I&#8217;m really hoping that this time, we&#8217;ll have really honest conversations, conversations that are not judgmental. Conversations that are deep but honest conversations about what we&#8217;ve been through and who we want to be.
MARGARET BRENNAN: You wrote in an opinion piece recently that, &#8220;protests will take our country only so far and if we are to make progress, let us vow to check the language of recrimination at the door.&#8221; What do you mean by that?
RICE: We have a very painful history. Europeans and Africans came to this country together. Africans came in chains. My- you- my DNA is 40 percent European. My great-great-grandfather was my great-grandmother&#8217;s slave owner. That&#8217;s a very hard truth. But it is the truth of the past. We now have to talk about how to move forward. And when I talk to people of different colors, particularly my white friends, my white colleagues, I don&#8217;t want it to be in the language of recrimination. I want to be in the language of how do we move forward. I think we each have an individual responsibility. It&#8217;s a collective responsibility, yes, but it&#8217;s an individual responsibility to ask what am I going to do specifically? What am I going to do to help heal these wounds and to move our country forward? Because race is still very much a factor in everyday life in America.
MARGARET BRENNAN: You said for you personally answering the question of &#8220;what do I do,&#8221; you focused on education.
RICE: Yes.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Is- is- why? Why do you think that is so key?
RICE: Well, partly it&#8217;s my background, I come from a family of educators. I come from a family where my grandfather managed as- as a sharecropper&#8217;s son to get educated in Alabama in the 1920s. Education was always for us a way to break through the barriers of prejudice, to make sure that my parents used to say, make sure that you have all of the armor you need to move forward. And I know that an education is not a- a shield against prejudice, but it gives people a fighting chance. And when I look at what has happened, particularly the poor kids and minority kids in our country, they really don&#8217;t have that shot at a high-quality education. I can honestly now look at your zip code and tell whether you&#8217;re gonna get a good education. And so I think if we can focus on specific things that we can do to make sure that those kids have a chance, that their parents have choices.
MARGARET, if- if anything, if you look at this COVID-19 crisis, it has exposed even deeper inequalities in our society. Just imagine being a child who&#8217;s trying to learn- to learn at home and the parents don&#8217;t speak English, the parents don&#8217;t have an educational background of their own. And contrast that with the kid whose parents are well-educated and who can read to them. We&#8217;ve got a lot of work to do around inequality. And I&#8217;ve just always believed that education is our most important intervention against the scourge of inequality, and particularly, when we look at race and poverty, which is a particularly tough witch&#8217;s brew.
MARGARET BRENNAN: And to your point about the pandemic, I mean, it seems to be widening the existing divide. Just looking at the data, the jobless rate in this country for the black community ticked up in May to 17 percent and black women in particular are bearing the brunt of that. Where do you see the policy solutions coming from right now? Is anyone offering anything of meaning?
RICE: Well, one of the things that&#8217;s happened is that this crisis has exacerbated problems that were there already, and we now have to ask ourselves, are we just going to say, well, my goodness, look at what we&#8217;ve seen, are we really going to act? And I think there are a couple of specific things. We know that in this crisis, if you can work from home, if you are capable of being on the Internet, then you can continue to work. You&#8217;re not unemployed. Knowledge workers are doing better. So let&#8217;s talk about higher skills levels for everybody. But I also think there&#8217;s something very specific we could do. Let&#8217;s say every American is going to have broadband. Every American is going to have access to a reliable Internet. And that means people in rural areas. That means people in- in schools that are not well-endowed. I&#8217;d love to see us have a national project about access to the Internet, access to the broad- to the broadband in the way that we&#8217;ve had access, for instance, to the highway at another time in our history.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Well, that&#8217;s quite a to do list for Congress if they were to agree to take it up. If you were advising this particular president, what would you be telling him to do at this moment?
RICE: I would ask the president to first and foremost speak in the language of unity, the language of empathy. Not everyone is going to agree with any president, with this president, but you have to speak to every American, not just to those who might agree with you. And you have to speak about the deep wounds that we have and that we&#8217;re going to overcome them. I&#8217;ve heard the president talk about the resilience of Americans. I&#8217;d love to hear more of that. And I&#8217;m not advising the president. But, you know, unfortunately, Twitter and tweeting are- are not great ways for complex thoughts, for complex messages. MARGARET BRENNAN: You are speaking like the diplomat that you have been, Secretary Rice, because I know when we spoke last year, you said that this president doesn&#8217;t recognize how raw race is as a factor in America. And just in the past few weeks, he has mourned George Floyd&#8217;s death but he&#8217;s used language like &#8220;when the looting starts, the shooting starts.&#8221; He said his supporters love &#8220;the black people.&#8221; When you hear phrases like that, how does that land with you? Do you just dismiss it because it&#8217;s President Trump?
RICE: Well, no. The president, obviously, the shooting and looting, he said that he didn&#8217;t know that historical context. And so I would say think about the historical context before you say something, because it is a deep wound. And the presidency is special in that regard. People look to the Oval Office as we&#8217;ve looked to the Oval Office throughout our history for- for messages, for signals. And as I said, the president has used some language that I&#8217;m really very, very much admire, like the resilience of the American people. Just be careful about those messages. I&#8217;m not advising the president, but if I were, I would say let&#8217;s put tweeting aside for a little bit and- and talk to us, have a conversation with us. And I think we need that. And I think he can do it.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Retired General Jim Mattis said that it wasn&#8217;t in his interpretation unintentional. In fact, he said, &#8220;Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people. He does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us.&#8221; Do you believe that it&#8217;s intentional? Do you agree with Mattis?
RICE: Well, look, I have enormous respect for Jim Mattis. And he&#8217;s a man of great integrity. He&#8217;s a patriot. He&#8217;s my friend. And he spoke to something that he needed to speak to. What I want to speak to is the future and what we do here over the next several months. We are having protests that need to be peaceful, but we&#8217;ve always moved ahead in part by protest. There&#8217;s no ex- excuse for the criminality and for the looting and for those outside influences that Governor Cuomo referred to- to- to come in from across state lines. That&#8217;s not what- who we are and what we are. But I will tell you, as somebody who grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, Jim Crow Alabama, when if a black man was shot by a policeman, it wouldn&#8217;t have even been a footnote in the newspaper, I&#8217;m really grateful to people who are going out now and saying, no, that is not acceptable. I&#8217;m grateful to those people who are thinking about how to support good police, who are thinking about how to support all of those people who put their lives on the line every day to protect us, but also to say to those who do not have our best interests at heart, who don&#8217;t undertake that obligation to protect and defend without regard to color, enough. We won&#8217;t put up with that either. And so this is a time for every American to speak to our unity, but to also be very cognizant of how we describe our differences, how we address our differences, and especially how we address one another with empathy.
MARGARET BRENNAN: You said you were grateful to those who are expressing their opposition. Is there any circumstance in which you think it would be acceptable in these days to use what the president said to governors he would use, which was the Insurrection Act, to send active duty military into American cities?
RICE: Well, I would absolutely advise against it, particularly at this time. Look, the founding fathers were very smart about this. Thomas Jefferson talked about the citizen soldier, and the embodiment of the citizen soldier these days is the National Guard and Reserve. They come from these communities. They are of these communities. They are trained in everything from dealing with natural disasters to dealing with issues like crowd control. And when the local police can&#8217;t handle it, the National Guard&#8217;s the right- the right answer. Our military isn&#8217;t trained to do this. Our military is trained for the battlefield. And this isn&#8217;t a battlefield in that sense. Now, I- I understand that- and my, personally, the violence and the ugliness and the livelihoods of business people who have now watched literally their life&#8217;s work go up in smoke, that has to be dealt with. But I fundamentally believe that the National Guard, when it&#8217;s needed, local law enforcement to the degree that it can, is the way to do this. And I would really advise against the Insurrection Act. I- I understand that President George H.W. Bush did so in the Rodney King affair back in Los Angeles. But that was at the request&#8211;
MARGARET BRENNAN: At the request of California&#8211;
RICE: &#8211;of- of California. So I would- let&#8217;s- let&#8217;s use the instruments that by our tradition, by the wisdom of our founding fathers, were given to us, citizen soldiers who can police their own.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Madam Secretary, you know, some of America&#8217;s adversaries, Russia, Iran, China, they are using the images of what happened to Mr. Floyd and what is happening in the streets of American cities right now in their own state propaganda. Do you see this racial divide as a national security threat to us?
RICE: Well, I&#8217;ve always thought that America&#8217;s greatest strength is that we are a country where you can come from humble circumstances and do great things, and where, despite our painful history, we&#8217;ve worked harder and harder every day, brick by brick, to build a more perfect union for all of us. And I would say to those, particularly in places like China and Russia and Iran, who may want to use this for propaganda, let&#8217;s not be absurd. This is not Tiananmen Square where you&#8217;ve mowed down people who disagreed with the government. This is not the invasion of Crimea where you took land from your neighbor. This is not the Green Revolution in Iran where you killed people wantonly because they wouldn&#8217;t agree with the theocratic government. And I would even say to our friends abroad, in places like Europe, where I&#8217;m seeing demonstrations in support of what is happening here, thank you for your support, but please look in the mirror. Please ask yourself, in countries in Europe and countries all across the world, what are you doing about racial and ethnic inequality in your own circumstances?America has gotten better because we have been willing to confront our problems. And we&#8217;re going to confront our problems again. We&#8217;re confronting them now. And I think we will move forward this time. But I- I really don&#8217;t need to be lectured by Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping about peaceful protest when they have themselves used their own force just because people wanted to criticize the government. That is not is what- that is not what is happening here.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Noted. Madam Secretary, you did not support President Trump in 2016. Seeing what you&#8217;ve seen, will you support him in 2020?
RICE: As I&#8217;ve often said, when I&#8217;m ready to speak about American politics, I&#8217;ll come back to you. And I&#8217;ll- you&#8217;ll be the first to know when I want to speak about American politics. Right now, what I want to speak to is my fellow Americans and to understand the deep divisions that we have, to understand what it is to be black. I know what it&#8217;s like to be met with a look of dismissiveness or the like. So I- I want to focus on that right now. And I want to say one other thing. You asked about the military earlier. Let&#8217;s remember, too, that our people in uniform also come from different backgrounds. They come from different races. They&#8217;re united in a common cause. But this is hard for them, too. And I know that their commanders are aware of the painful conversations that need to be- need to take place even within our military. But one great thing is when we unite for a common cause, as they often do, it helps us to overcome those differences.

At a conference on &#8220;Political Risk in the 21st Century&#8221; in Abu Dhabi Monday, Condoleezza Rice, who served as National Security Adviser and Secretary of State under President George W. Bush, offered her thoughts for the first time publicly on the controversy surrounding President Trump&#8217;s alleged attempt to pressure Ukraine to &#8220;look into&#8221; former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
Trump&#8217;s famous July 25 call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, said Rice, was &#8220;really murky.&#8221;
&#8220;The call is murky, it is really murky,&#8221; said Rice, as reported by <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-impeachment-condoleezza/former-u-s-top-diplomat-rice-concerned-by-shadow-diplomacy-on-ukraine-idUSKBN1XL2A7">Reuters</a>. &#8220;I don’t like for the president of the United States to mention an American citizen for investigation to a foreign leader. I think that is out of bounds.&#8221;
In the highly scrutinized call, which prompted the whistleblower complaint sparking the Democrats&#8217; impeachment inquiry, Trump brought up Ukraine&#8217;s alleged role in meddling with the 2016 election, asking Zelensky to look into it as a &#8220;favor.&#8221; Trump also added his interest in seeing Ukraine look more thoroughly into the allegations swirling around the Bidens. Though the whistleblower complaint described a clear quid pro quo during the call, the transcript released by the Trump administration revealed no such explicit agreement.
&#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that,&#8221; Trump told Zelensky. &#8220;So whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it… It sounds horrible to me.&#8221;
While Rice found the call uncomfortably &#8220;murky,&#8221; she expressed more concern about the alleged role of Trump&#8217;s personal lawyer, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, in pushing Trump&#8217;s agenda in Ukraine. Though she did not reference him by name, Rice highlighted the potential &#8220;conflict&#8221; of having &#8220;someone who says he&#8217;s acting on behalf of the president&#8221; sending mixed messages to another country about U.S. foreign policy. She qualified the statement by noting that she does not know if that actually occurred.
&#8220;What I see right now troubles me,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I see a state of conflict between the foreign policy professionals and someone who says he’s acting on behalf of the president, but frankly I don’t know if that is the case.&#8221;
&#8220;It is deeply troubling,&#8221; she said, explaining: &#8220;The world shouldn’t get confusing messages from the United States of America.&#8221;
While the phone call contained no clear quid pro quo tying an investigation into the Bidens and the $391 million in military aide to Ukraine, in some of the transcripts selectively leaked by the committee headed up by California Democrat Adam Schiff — whose office <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gop-to-argue-whistleblowers-protections-voided-by-consulting-with-schiff-prior-to-filing-complaint-report-says">consulted with the whistleblower</a> before the complaint was filed — some witnesses, including U.S. Ambassador to the E.U. Gordon Sondland, say they &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nyt-pro-trump-diplomat-makes-substantial-update-to-his-impeachment-testimony-on-quid-pro-quo">presumed</a>&#8221; the aide was tied to the investigation.
Trump has maintained all along that there was no quid pro quo and that his call for the investigation into the Bidens&#8217; activities involving Ukraine and Ukraine-based energy company Burisma was fully warranted, as past reports and investigations indicate.
During the &#8220;Political Risk&#8221; event Monday, Rice also warned about the current state of the world, both economically and in terms of growing &#8220;power rivalries.&#8221;
&#8220;The international economy was created as one that was intended to be a positive sum game, as in ‘my growth would not come at your expense,’&#8221; she said in comments reported by <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/11/11/world-order-is-in-chaos-condoleezza-rice-warns.html">CNBC</a>. &#8220;They created a different kind of system, one that was based on free and open trade and one in which there were great institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank &#8230; that system also relied on U.S. leadership and U.S. military protection. I would suggest to you that now, now that system is under strain and under threat.&#8221;

&#8220;A second big challenge to the system, the global order that was created after 1945, is the problem of great power rivalry which has emerged strongly in the last several years,&#8221; she said in reference to increasing tensions between the U.S. and China, echoing warnings from Trump. &#8220;If Russia is a power that is somewhat diminished from where it was, China is a rising power. And how to deal with a relationship with China that is actually very complex, not at all simple, is one of the real challenges for the United States today.&#8221;
