The past few years have seen Americans roundly reject the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) ideology universities have long pushed on faculty and students alike.
Even before the Supreme Court ruled against affirmative action at universities, a majority of Americans, 62%, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/most-americans-think-college-admissions-should-not-consider-race-reutersipsos-2023-02-15/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opposed</a> race-based college admissions. At least a dozen states, including one with a Democratic governor, have cracked down on DEI at their higher education institutions in the past few years.
In 2024, seven states signed legislation against DEI or stripped funding for it at universities — Alabama, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Utah, and Wyoming. Those states join Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and North Dakota, all of which moved against DEI before last year.
In April, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, a Democrat, allowed the legislature to enact a new <a href="https://www.kslegislature.gov/li/b2023_24/measures/documents/hb2105_enrolled.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">law</a> that fines public universities $10,000 if they use DEI policies in hiring faculty or accepting students.
&#8220;While I have concerns about this legislation, I don’t believe that the conduct targeted in this legislation occurs in our universities,&#8221; Kelly <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/six-states-banned-limited-dei-colleges-universities-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> of the bill.
In Utah, Governor Spencer Cox, a Republican, signed a <a href="https://le.utah.gov/~2024/bills/static/HB0261.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a> prohibiting universities from having &#8220;diversity, equity and inclusion&#8221; programs, practices, or required trainings.
The law says such &#8220;discriminatory&#8221; practices include asserting that &#8220;meritocracy is inherently racist or sexist&#8221; or &#8220;that an individual, by virtue of the individual’s personal identity characteristics, bears responsibility for actions committed in the past by other individuals with the same personal identity characteristics.&#8221;
Alabama&#8217;s new <a href="https://arc-sos.state.al.us/ucp/L1499133.AI1.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">law</a> banning DEI offices from public universities, K-12 school systems, and state agencies <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/alabama-universities-shutter-dei-offices-new-law-rcna163400" target="_blank" rel="noopener">took</a> effect in October.
The Alabama law also prohibits pushing certain &#8220;divisive concepts&#8221; in public settings, including that a person can be &#8220;inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or subconsciously&#8221; due to his race, sex, or religion.
In response, the University of Alabama&#8217;s three campuses shuttered their DEI offices.
The Alabama law also addresses the transgender bathroom issue. It requires restrooms at public universities to be designated on the basis of biological sex with &#8220;penalties for violation.&#8221;
Indiana passed a <a href="https://iga.in.gov/pdf-documents/123/2024/senate/bills/SB0202/SB0202.06.ENRH.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">law</a> in March banning universities from requiring diversity statements from employees or students. The law also requires universities to have policies where faculty cannot get tenure if they have not encouraged “free expression and intellectual diversity” or have taught students political views unrelated to their classes. It also orders universities to explore ways to promote recruitment of &#8220;underrepresented&#8221; students, not just minority students.
Iowa passed a <a href="https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation/BillBook?ga=90&amp;ba=SF%202435" target="_blank" rel="noopener">law</a> in May barring its three state universities from having DEI offices or requiring anyone to submit a DEI statement. And Wyoming <a href="https://www.uwyo.edu/news/2024/03/a-message-from-the-president-legislative-actions-regarding-uw.html#:~:text=Most%20notably%2C%20the%20Legislature%20reduced,%2C%20effective%20July%201%2C%202024." target="_blank" rel="noopener">defunded</a> the DEI office at the University of Wyoming, which had been getting $1.73 million.
A number of other states banned certain DEI policies before last year. Florida now has several anti-DEI laws, including a 2023 law that <a href="https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/931/?Tab=BillHistory" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prohibits</a> public universities from requiring a &#8220;political loyalty test&#8221; from employees or students or giving them preferential treatment based on race or ideology. Another Florida law from that year bans using state or federal funds for DEI at public universities.
Last month, Idaho&#8217;s state education board unanimously <a href="https://www.chronicle.com/article/in-sweeping-action-idahos-education-board-bans-dei-ideology-on-college-campuses" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voted</a> to ban race and gender policies and cultural centers at its public universities.
In 2021, Idaho barred public colleges and K-12 schools from DEI statements, or compelling “students to personally affirm, adopt, or adhere to” certain concepts related to sex, race, and religion. The same year, the state <a href="https://www.highereddive.com/news/idaho-education-board-bans-dei-boise-state-university-idaho-state-lewis-clark/735987/#:~:text=In%202021%2C%20the%20Legislature%20passed,%2C%20color%2C%20or%20national%20origin." target="_blank" rel="noopener">cut</a> $2.5 million from state funding for social justice programming at its three public universities.
In 2023, North Dakota enacted a new law <a href="https://ndlegis.gov/assembly/68-2023/regular/documents/23-0417-02000.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">banning</a> DEI statements at universities as well as mandatory DEI training. A student or school employee may not be required to agree with concepts like &#8220;race or sex scapegoating&#8221; or that an individual &#8220;should feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or another form of psychological distress solely because of the individual&#8217;s race or sex,&#8221; the law says.
The same year, Texas enacted a <a href="https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/88R/billtext/pdf/SB00017F.pdf#navpanes=0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">law</a> requiring public universities to confirm that they do not require DEI statements or have a DEI office before they can spend any state money.
In 2022, Tennessee <a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty-issues/diversity-equity/2023/04/18/tennessee-again-targets-divisive-concepts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> a law saying public university students and employees cannot be penalized for not agreeing with certain “divisive concepts” including that “the rule of law does not exist, but instead is a series of power relationships and struggles among racial or other groups.”
The state doubled down in 2023 with another law banning mandatory implicit bias training and inviting students and employees to report violations.
North Carolina passed a <a href="https://www.ncleg.gov/Sessions/2023/Bills/Senate/PDF/S364v6.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">law</a> in 2023 making it illegal to force state employees, including those at public universities to give their opinion about &#8220;matters of contemporary political debate or social action.&#8221;
The state&#8217;s Democratic governor vetoed the bill, saying it would get rid of training to help people understand &#8220;the unconscious bias we all bring to our work and our communities.&#8221; However, the legislature <a href="https://ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2023/S364" target="_blank" rel="noopener">overrode</a> the governor&#8217;s veto.
A slew of other states have proposed anti-DEI legislation as well, but so far they have not been successful.

Universities that selected presidents with academic track records that consist largely of political screeds about oppression are now melting down because of students who say they’re oppressed, a review of academic papers shows.
At UCLA, Provost Darnell Hunt donned a mask and sat on the ground with protesters, who told him that police are on the side of “Zionists,” and that police are going to commit “brutality” against them. After he said he had “to go,” they screamed “shame” at him.

Hunt made his career opining on police brutality and racism in the aftermath of riots triggered by purported brutality against Rodney King, writing a book called “Screening the Los Angeles ‘Riots’: Race, Seeing, and Resistance.” The titles of his academic papers, below, give an idea of his area of expertise:

And at Sacramento State, President Luke Wood went back on a threat to remove an anti-Israel encampment, instead allowing them to remain <a href="https://statehornet.com/2024/04/president-luke-wood-extends-encampment-approval-on-second-day-of-pro-palestine-protests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“indefinitely</a>.” Wood has made his career writing about student activism and the oppression of blacks, authoring the book “The Sources of American Student Activism” and papers such as:

The review suggests that the unrest on college campuses is not the result of a small subversive faction, but rather one in line with the ideology of those at the highest ranks of the institutions. The papers, focused heavily on social sciences, also raise questions about the real-world utility of the work of those at even the highest levels of academia.
At Rutgers University, an anti-Semitic protester told a Jewish student that “Hitler would have loved you.” Rutgers leadership went on to give in to many of the protesters’ demands, such as <a href="https://twitter.com/sfmcguire79/status/1786417078058004840/photo/3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agreeing</a> “to develop a plan for the creation of an Arab Cultural Center with designated physical space and a hiring plan for administrators and staff,” and to “develop training sessions on anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab, and anti-Muslim racism for all RU administrators and staff.”
Rutgers president Jonathan Holloway — a former professor of African American Studies at Yale — has contributed to the academic world through papers such as:

The university’s president, Ann Cudd, made her career off of lamenting oppression, publishing papers such as one simply titled “Oppression,” which cites Karl Marx, and another titled “Sporting Metaphors: Competition and the Ethos of Capitalism,” which explains that “whole subcultures live among us that avoid sports or capitalism, such as academics.” Her other papers include:

At Northwestern University, the President’s Advisory Committee on Preventing Antisemitism and Hate disbanded after members quit over President Michael Schill giving in to anti-Israel protesters’ demands without consulting them.
The concessions included full-ride scholarships to “<a href="https://twitter.com/America1stLegal/status/1786114841599410431" target="_blank" rel="noopener">five Palestinian undergraduates</a> to attend Northwestern” and that the school would “provide and renovate a house for MENA/Muslim students.”

Universities Made Oppression ‘Scholars’ Their Presidents. Now Students Feel Oppressed.

One of the astonishing things about the news industry is that many stories with an outsized national impact turn out to have been completely falsified upon further review. One of its incentive structures is often “firstist with the mostist”; in other words, get to the story fast and report it incredibly quickly. But then, the reporting ends up being false. In retrospect, this does significant damage. This is true in regard to reporting about COVID or Black Lives Matter.
One of the signal examples of this is now being exposed for all the world to see.
18 years ago, in 2006, the Duke lacrosse rape case incited a wide variety of movements that would come into full flower over the course of the subsequent 10 years, particularly during the Obama era. The Duke lacrosse case was an inciting incident for Black Lives Matter and for the #MeToo movement.
In this case, a stripper accused a series of rich white lacrosse players at Duke University of having sexually assaulted her. It became one of the biggest cases in American criminal justice history, specifically because of its ripple effects.
Crystal Mangum, the stripper at the center of that case, has admitted she lied back in 2006. Until now, she has never publicly admitted she fabricated the rape allegation.
Three men, David Evans, Collin Finnerty, and Reade Seligmann, were arrested and put on trial before the case was dismissed. Mangum’s original allegation was that she had been performing at a team party off campus in March of 2006, had been sexually assaulted, and raped by a series of white Duke lacrosse players.
She was, indeed, at this party, but, apparently, she engaged in none of her &#8220;career activity,&#8221; shall we say, because she was high on drugs or intoxicated with alcohol. She ended up leaving early, and then these accusations were filed.

There were many holes in her story. First, there is no DNA on her. Second, she could not identify any of the Duke lacrosse players, except for one, who ended up not having even been there.
Yet, the problems with her allegations did not stop everyone — including the elite media and those on university campuses — from jumping to conclusions.
Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqt9OX-oAtU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in 2006, “I am not going to allow Durham’s view in the mind of the world to be a bunch of lacrosse players from Duke raping a black girl in Durham.”
Nifong obviously had other political motivations, possibly to run for a higher office at some point. In a March 2006 interview with CBS News, he <a href="https://www.ncbar.gov/orders/06dhc35.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>, “The circumstances of the rape indicated a deep racial motivation for some of the things that were done. It makes a crime that is by its nature one of the most offensive and invasive even more so.” According to Nifong, this wasn&#8217;t just a rape. It was, in fact, a racist rape.
The former Duke University president, Richard Brodhead, took immediate action against the team following only the allegations. He accepted the resignation of the men&#8217;s lacrosse coach, canceled the remainder of their season, and suspended the accused three players from school after they were indicted for rape, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/12/12/us-news/former-stripper-murder-convict-crystal-mangum-confesses-to-lying-about-being-raped-by-duke-lacrosse-players-in-2006/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Post</a>. This was “despite having asked the public not to prejudge the criminal case.”
David Evans, one of the players, stridently <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niLROfcOfBc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied the allegations</a>, saying, “I am absolutely innocent of all the charges that have been brought against me today, that Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty are innocent of all the charges that were brought against them. These allegations are lies.” Eventually, the case was dismissed.

Yet that did not stop The New York Times from running around 100 pieces about the Duke lacrosse allegations. A tremendous number of Duke faculty actually paid for an ad that was put in the Duke Chronicle devoted to this particular case. Numerous departments and professors at the university signed onto this paid advertisement. What did <a href="https://today.duke.edu/showcase/mmedia/pdf/socialdisasterad.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the statement</a> say?
<blockquote>We are listening to our students. We’re also listening to the Durham community, to Duke staff, and to each other. Regardless of the results of the police investigation, what is apparent everyday now is the anger and fear of many students who know themselves to be objects of racism and sexism; who see illuminated in this moment’s extraordinary spotlight what they live with everyday. They know that it isn’t just Duke, it isn’t everybody, and it isn’t just individuals making this disaster. But it is a disaster nonetheless. These students are shouting and whispering about what happened to this young woman and to themselves.</blockquote>
The ad then provided anonymous student statements about the issue. The seedbed for the Black Lives Matter movement here is obvious. And it turns out all of this was based on lies. It was all lies — beginning to end.
Eventually, the North Carolina attorney general, Roy Cooper, announced that the charges had, in fact, been dropped. (Cooper would go on to become the governor of North Carolina.) He <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHtDbZ5i-w8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a>:
<blockquote>Our attorneys and SBI agents have interviewed numerous people who were at the party, DNA and other experts, the Durham County district attorney, Durham police officers, defense attorneys, and the accusing witness on several occasions. We have reviewed statements given over the year, photographs, records, and other evidence. The result of our review and investigation shows clearly that there is insufficient evidence to proceed on any of the charges. Today, we are filing notices of dismissal for all charges against Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty, and David Evans. The result is that these cases are over, and no more criminal proceedings will occur.</blockquote>
Nifong ended up being disbarred for making false statements and hiding evidence from the defense. The president of Duke University later came out and offered <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NkgddRymFA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an apology</a>.
But here&#8217;s the issue: What was the fallout from this case? Was the fallout a lesson learned about people making false allegations? Of course not. Was the fallout about the rush to judgment by the media deeply desperate for a race case that they could magnify? Of course not; there have been dozens since.
The actual fallout in terms of policy was that in 2011, the Obama administration changed Title IX regulations so that you basically could not defend yourself against sexual harassment or sexual assault allegation on campus.
CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2017/09/07/politics/betsy-devos-education-department-title-ix/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that the administration,
<blockquote>&#8230;outlined guidelines for schools on how to handle sexual assault allegations in a memo referred to as a ‘dear colleague’ letter. The letter reminded schools of their legal obligation to address sexual violence amid concerns that schools were not taking the issue seriously enough, and called on schools to step up investigations of reports. It also provided guidelines for investigations and hearings.</blockquote>
And it gave the accused no due process. It made it so that a person did not actually have a right to face down someone who was accusing them. That was the actual legal implication drawn from the false allegations of the Duke lacrosse case.
This repeated itself later with similar allegations that were made about the University of Virginia frat members in 2014 accused by Rolling Stone of engaging in a gang rape, which turned out to be completely false as well. But that didn&#8217;t stop the momentum of the #MeToo movement.
False allegations are, unfortunately, the lifeblood of movements that require gas when there is no gas in the tank.
Yesterday, Mangum, the accuser in the Duke lacrosse case — who is serving time for murder right now — finally admitted (nearly 20 years later) that her accusations were all made up. She said in <a href="https://www.letstalkwithkat.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an interview</a>: 
<blockquote>I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn&#8217;t. And that was wrong. And I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me and made up a story that wasn&#8217;t true because I wanted validation from people and not from God. And that was wrong. And I hope that they can forgive me.</blockquote>
It was false, and everyone knew it was false at the time. Yet it led to another string of these sorts of cases ranging from: the University of Virginia false rape allegations; the false allegations regarding Michael Brown&#8217;s death in Ferguson, Missouri, which led to riots in 2014; the case of George Floyd, which is in fact a false case; and the Daniel Penny case.
It stretches forward because the media need these opportunities. They spin up these opportunities. They rely on these opportunities in order to “have the discussion.” They&#8217;re constantly looking for a news hook to have discussions on the issues that they find most interesting regardless of whether the underlying data is there or not.
The media are perfectly willing to jump into certain conversations. However, there are other conversations that the media are absolutely not willing to broach.
Was there a widespread investigation into false rape allegations, which was the actual story with regard to the Duke lacrosse case? Absolutely not. Was there a full-scale media blitz on the question of rape hoaxes, which is what happened in Duke lacrosse? Absolutely not. The way the mainstream media work, their way of deciding whether something is a national story or not, is not based on the truth or falsity of the statements or the good or bad action of the people in question.
They have a preset narrative, and then they look for a hook for that narrative. That is how spinning up a movement out of nothing becomes possible. And it is how polarizing the American body politic occurs.
For four decades, the national media have pursued a preset narrative agenda. Then, they look for a news hook for that agenda that allows them to spin it up into a national story.
That is why Americans are sick and tired of the national legacy media.

That just <a href="https://features.thecrimson.com/2021/freshman-survey/lifestyle-narrative/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">5.2 percent of my class</a> at Harvard admits to being Republican is no secret — it was the statistic published in The Crimson’s annual incoming freshman survey for the Class of 2025. But the fact that many of the remaining 94.8 percent actively try to ostracize and dissociate from conservatives on campus — while also not a secret — is vastly more disturbing.
In the wake of President-elect Donald Trump’s resounding victory on November 5, students took to social media platforms like Sidechat, an anonymous social media platform, to lambast their peers who simply voted for Trump.
“No matter who wins tonight, the fact that so many vote for Trump is f*cking terrifying,” read one post, which was upvoted by 407 Harvard students. Other students called conservatives at Harvard “freaks,” “misogynists,” “fascists,” and the “stupidest people on campus.” Some even told them to “unenroll please, it’s frankly embarrassing.” Most damning was a post which read “Accept the consequences of your beliefs. Want lower taxes, take social alienation.”
Notwithstanding these petty efforts to undermine and intimidate campus Republicans into suppressing their viewpoints, as president of the Harvard Republican Club, I can state unequivocally that it has never been a better time to be a Republican on campus.
Since my election as HRC President just one year ago, our student mailing list has grown exponentially from 100 to over 800 — more than 10 percent of Harvard’s student body. We’ve rolled out a <a href="https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2024/10/8/iop-launches-conservative-mentorship/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">career mentorship program</a> and an Alumni Advisory Board, we’ve significantly increased the number of events hosted, and we’ve dramatically increased the average attendees at these events over seven-fold from less than 20 to almost 150.
This rapid success is due, in no small part, to the HRC hosting a wide array of high-profile speakers who espouse views across the conservative ideological spectrum — from businessmen like PayPal co-founder Peter A. Thiel and <a href="https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2024/10/30/palantir-ceo-republican-club/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale</a> to former ambassadors like <a href="https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2024/11/8/trevor-traina-harvard-republicans/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trevor Traina</a>, think tank leaders like Heritage Foundation President Kevin D. Roberts, former governors like Asa Hutchinson, former Secretary of Homeland Security Chad F. Wolf, and Cabinet nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ’76.
While I may not agree with every mentor or speaker’s opinion, their diverse perspectives and ideas reflect the broad, open-minded, and welcoming organization the HRC has built over the past year.
It was a similarly broad coalition that propelled Trump, whom we proudly <a href="https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2024/7/2/harvard-republican-club-donald-trump-endorsement/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsed in July</a>, to a spectacularly decisive victory — a group of people with varied ideas about America’s future united behind their Republican identity.
Of course, the success of any political movement hinges on engaging others who may not agree with a cause, convincing them to ultimately view it positively.
This is particularly true at Harvard, where some of my peers have likely never actually engaged with a conservative. From their first year on campus, many often self-isolate into groups that reinforce their opinions. These students’ perceptions of conservatives are borne exclusively from what their media of choice feeds them, and thus our purportedly “educated” student body blindly associates Republicans with every negative “ism” they have been taught to embrace.

Over the past year, the HRC has seen a record number of self-identified Democrats attend our events and use our resources. We’ve facilitated important conversations across party lines (including a debate between Republicans and Democrats at Visitas) and brought a diverse set of perspectives to those who sought them out.
Our success — like the national Republican Party’s success — is contingent on a diverse coalition only possible when we embrace heterogenous opinions and allow for robust conversations. Just look at Trump’s new Cabinet: It includes many former Democrats, including Kennedy and Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii). Those surprised by Trump’s victory earlier this month might assume that Republican life at Harvard is dead. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Our events are more than well attended, our speakers top-tier, and our energy through the roof. And perhaps most importantly, many Republicans are willing to openly embrace their values on campus, despite the aforementioned social media posts.
I encourage those interested in stepping out of their comfort zone and challenging their preconceived notions about conservatives to take advantage of the movement we’ve built. Instead of attempts at name-calling, intimidation, and ostracization, seek out Republicans. Listen to what they believe. Heck, even argue with them if you want. But at least engage with their ideas on a meaningful level. You might just learn something.

Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine signed a bill on Tuesday prohibiting trans-identifying students from using bathrooms and locker rooms that don&#8217;t match their biological sex.
When the law takes effect in 90 days, public and private K-12 schools, along with colleges and universities, must ensure that bathrooms, locker rooms, and overnight accommodations are divided by biological sex, The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/lgbtq/5012298-dewine-ohio-transgender-students-bathroom-use/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The bill was approved by Ohio&#8217;s Republican-controlled state Senate earlier this month. Democrats were united in their opposition to the legislation.
The new Ohio law also bans schools from building multi-occupancy &#8220;all-gender&#8221; facilities. According to the Ohio Capital Journal, the law <a href="https://ohiocapitaljournal.com/2024/11/27/ohio-gov-mike-dewine-signs-transgender-bathroom-ban-bill-into-law/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">does not prohibit</a> schools from having non-gendered single-occupancy bathrooms.
Ohio <a href="https://www.lgbtmap.org/equality-maps/nondiscrimination/bathroom_bans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joins</a> more than a dozen other states that have taken action to ensure that K-12 students use bathrooms and locker rooms that align with their biological sex.
The Republicans who sponsored the original state House bill thanked DeWine for signing it into law.
&#8220;Thank you @GovMikeDeWine for signing the bill yesterday that contains HB 183,&#8221; state Rep. Adam Bird <a href="https://x.com/AdamCBird/status/1861759876411920724" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on X. &#8220;[Beth Lear] and I have been working on this bill for over a year and we are thankful that individuals will not have to worry about the opposite sex coming into the restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms.&#8221;
In response, Lear added, &#8220;Yes, thank you @GovMikeDeWine for signing SB 104 to protect ALL students. &#8221;
DeWine was also praised by Republican Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, who <a href="https://x.com/DaveYostOH/status/1861778495983985084" target="_blank" rel="noopener">thanked</a> the governor &#8220;for siding with biology, history safety and common sense.&#8221;
Democrats and leftist activists decried DeWine&#8217;s signing of the legislation. The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio <a href="https://x.com/acluohio/status/1861787449980080135" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>, &#8220;Transgender people are part of the fabric of Ohio; our families, our workplaces, and our neighborhoods. 🏳️‍⚧️ We remain steadfast in our commitment to the LGBTQ+ community and are closely considering next steps.&#8221;

The new law is yet another victory for conservatives in the state on the transgender issue. Last year, DeWine <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ohio-gop-governor-vetoes-bans-on-gender-procedures-for-minors-biological-boys-competing-in-girls-sports" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vetoed</a> bans on minors undergoing gender procedures and boys competing against girls in the state, but the state legislature overrode his veto in January 2024.

Ohio GOP Governor Signs Bill Ensuring Students Use Bathrooms Aligning With Biological Sex

One of the most profound and honest <a href="https://rlo.acton.org/archives/124960-the-strange-death-of-dei.html">conversations</a> I’ve ever had on the subject of DEI came courtesy of a DEI advocate I spoke with last year. I asked her a simple question: if she believed in DEI as a useful element of corporate policy in theory, why is it that so many DEI programs fail in practice? Her honest answer: “We have to be very robust in our methodology, and we haven’t been. Being able to articulate the meaning of the D, E, and I is critical. If you can’t present it to highlight the fundamental good in the training, it doesn’t work.” An obvious answer, perhaps — but a telling one. The reason for the diversity downshift in American culture, in many cases, is a practitioner issue: DEI proponents have, in many instances, failed to make the argument of why such training is a fundamental good. To the contrary, we’re seeing a growing body of evidence that DEI’s fundamental good, just maybe, was profoundly oversold.
On Monday, we got our first look at a critical scientific finding that’s lending new support to the arguments of DEI’s strongest critics — and taking flack from progressive media outlets set on not giving it the coverage it clearly deserves. A <a href="https://networkcontagion.us/wp-content/uploads/Instructing-Animosity_11.13.24.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study</a> from the Network Contagion Research Institute, released in collaboration with the Rutgers University Social Perception Lab, examined the effects of exposure to training that emphasizes awareness of/opposition to “systemic oppression.” Its goal was answering the question at the core of the DEI debate: do diversity programs that highlight systemic oppression actually reduce bias and improve group dynamics by “increas[ing] empathy,” or do they “increase hostility” towards those that antiracist philosophy paints as oppressive?
The study had subjects read either (1) an essay containing typical antiracist arguments about white supremacy and race discrimination, or (2) a control essay about corn production. After reading, subjects analyzed a race-neutral hypothetical interaction: a student applying to an elite university and having their application rejected by an admissions officer. Subjects who read the antiracist essay, which contained excerpts from antiracist figures such as Ibram X. Kendi and Robin DiAngelo, viewed the student’s rejection through what the study deemed hostile attribution bias, perceiving the admissions officer as discriminatory, unfair, and guilty of ‘microaggressions.’
The subjects who were primed with antiracist literature:
<ul>
<li>Demonstrated an increased willingness to punish the admissions officer in the hypothetical scenario, despite the scenario not mentioning the race of the student.</li>
<li>Viewed real-life court cases as discriminatory that the control subjects perceived as fair</li>
<li>Viewed entire people groups (Hindus) as more racially discriminatory after reading material on caste discrimination</li>
</ul>
The study explained the risk of DEI programs focused on oppressed/oppressor class groupings in the following way: “[DEI] interventions may foster authoritarian mindsets, particularly when anti-oppressive narratives exist within an ideological and vindictive monoculture.” In other words, the oppressor/oppressed distinctions reflected in many modern DEI narratives can actually increase bias, hostility, and attribution of discriminatory beliefs among groups, as opposed to decreasing them. This finding suggests that exposure to ‘antiracist’ narratives decreases people’s ability to view situations rationally; if biased by a preconceived narrative of discrimination, people are more inclined to see discrimination at play in interactions that an unbiased observer might perceive as perfectly fair and reasonable.

Is this survey the nail in the coffin for dwindling DEI programs? Of course not — at the end of the day, it’s just one study within a larger body of literature. But the response of media outlets like the New York Times and Bloomberg, who <a href="https://www.nysun.com/article/press-times-suppress-findings-study-dei-training-amplifies-hostility-instead-reducing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suppressed</a> coverage of the study, should be an indicator to us as to just how important these findings are. This survey is not business as usual. On the contrary, its findings should be a wake-up call to those who still hold out optimism for DEI efforts as a whole. For years, DEI critics have argued that the narratives of modern ‘antiracism,’ which too often prioritizes identity politics and indefensibly broad generalizations over the necessary nuance of looking at the real world, are unfit for purpose. These findings are incredibly sharp arrows in our quiver.
It’s time for Americans at large, and the institutions and governments that serve them, to put DEI programs under the fine-toothed comb of scrutiny they have always deserved and examine if their fundamental good is really as good as it’s advertised to be. Programs that create and foster hostility on the basis of race fail basic function tests for building society, engendering trust in institutions, and making Americans less divided. And if DEI programs can’t do any of those three, whether in the boardroom, the classroom, or in the government briefing room, it’s time to ask why they exist at all.

As a Gen Z, pro-life woman, I voted for President-elect Donald Trump. It’s crystal clear why he won: the political Left’s empty platitudes and hollow tolerance talk was a façade, and the election results shredded their mask. My post-election experience thus far consists of being mobbed or threatened on campus, proving the hypocrisy of the Left’s claims of acceptance of all lifestyles. I identify as Pro/Life.
I’ve been fighting for pre-born lives for my entire college and adult career, debating abortion supporters’ &#8220;pro-woman&#8221; abortion arguments. I’m no stranger to ostracization from my peers, hateful messages, and even death threats. Maybe it’s because these people support an industry that kills pre-born babies to keep their doors open.
Two days after the election, the abortion Left’s chaotic response at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to my campus tour, “Abortion is Violence,” proved my point about abortion supporters.
These “pro-woman” abortion zealots quickly surrounded me, yelling, spitting at me and my crew, stealing flyers and other display materials, leading to one arrest by campus police.
The conduct during my speech wasn’t much better; I walked into a room at full capacity of 160 people with more protestors waiting outside. Abortion supporters held signs with my face on them. They mocked, shouted, and insulted me, even telling me I should’ve been aborted.
One pro-abortion man came up to me and yelled:
“You should be eradicated! You should rot in the bowels of hell! You should die!” When a nearby person pleaded for civility, saying, “That’s a woman, respect the woman,” he replied, “My respect for women is very selective.”
Whatever happened to “I’m with her?”
And these same people wonder why Vice President Kamala Harris lost.
They say they support women, but only those women who agree with killing pre-born children, or perhaps men who identify as women who feel the same.
They want the freedom to spit, steal, and scream but don’t want Americans they disagree with to speak peacefully and engage in public discourse.
They say women should have the truth and resources to “make their own choice,” but blatantly lie about miscarriage care, Chemical Abortion Pill side effects, and fetal development.
Fortunately for us, people saw past the spin, and it cost Harris and the Democratic Party the Presidency, U.S. House, and U.S. Senate.
Voters had the choice of voting for the most radical, pro-abortion ticket in world history, and said NO. A majority of voters don’t want abortion up until birth, nor do they appreciate the senseless propaganda around it.

Late-term abortion extremism is not a winning argument, which is why abortion zealots don’t want civil conversation and critical thinking to spread nationwide. If open dialogue occurs, then people can clearly see how radical these beliefs really are.
At VCU, as I talked with students willing to listen, an aggressive mob of more than 200 abortion supporters shouted down the free speech of others. The online death threats I continued to receive became too severe for me to remain on campus, requiring my security as well as police to escort me to safety. Students took more of my flyers and ate them in my face as I walked through the mob.
Despite securing my physical safety, the online attacks continued as pro-abortion students made viral videos on <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTY1SBYm3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TikTok,</a> flooded by Instagram with horrific messages, and got my TikTok permanently banned.
But their efforts to silence my voice for the voiceless prove my point: these tactics wouldn’t be necessary if abortion extremism was popular. Their actions and insults against decent and good people solidify their perception as loudmouths who are intolerant of the beauty of life.
I’ve received countless messages from people saying I’ve helped change their minds on abortion. Millions of people have seen my content from my tour stops and seen the pro-life movement challenging the pro-abortion narrative shoved down our throats.
Even though the abortion Left’s ire rings loudly, the pro-life movement treks forward victoriously, with the hopes that Trump will stand up for our free speech rights so we can continue to protect the pre-born.

Democrats had counted on young voters flocking to Vice President Kamala Harris, but as Tuesday night went on the party had a rude awakening.
Gen Z did not swing as hard for Harris as Democrats counted on — Harris <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/democrats-genz-kamala-harris-trump-election-1981590" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won</a> voters ages 18 to 29 by just 11 points, way down from President Joe Biden’s 24 points and Hillary Clinton’s 19 points.
President-elect Donald Trump bet hard on young men, including those in their teens and early 20s casting their very first ballot. He appeared on a slew of “bro” podcasts popular with that demographic, among them comedian Theo Von&#8217;s &#8220;This Past Weekend,&#8221; Andrew Schultz’s &#8220;Flagrant&#8221; podcast, YouTuber Jake Paul’s show, and the country’s most popular podcast &#8220;The Joe Rogan Experience,&#8221; a three-hour affair.
That strategy paid off — men under 30 voted for Trump over Harris by 2 points. Back in 2020, Biden won the young male vote by 11 points.
Harris focused on motivating young women. She appeared on the popular “Call Her Daddy” podcast, whose millions of listeners are mostly women. She was criticized for appearing on the show while thousands suffered through the devastation from Hurricane Helene, however. Her “Brat” summer trend, based on a Charlie XCX album, went viral, but it had fizzled by the fall.
However, Trump also gained ground with young women despite Democrats hammering the abortion issue. Harris won under-30 women by 24 points, more than 10 points down from Biden’s 35-point advantage with young women.
Trump’s social media strategy also involved a lot of viral memes, such as his appearance at McDonald’s where he worked the fry cooker, another way his team worked to appeal to young people.
Overall, Trump won a bigger percentage of voters under 30 than any Republican presidential candidate since 2008, NBC News exit polling <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/yes-trump-improved-young-men-drew-young-women-rcna179019https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/yes-trump-improved-young-men-drew-young-women-rcna179019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed</a>.
On Wednesday, videos flooded TikTok showing college students celebrating Trump’s win on their campuses.
The Harris campaign had believed young voters were energized to vote for Harris. Long lines at <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/11/05/college-campuses-long-lines-voting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">college campuses</a> in swing states like the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Arizona State University seemed to confirm this.
“They are doing their part to make sure Donald Trump is defeated, abortion rights are protected and Democracy is saved,” said David Hogg, co-founder of Leaders We Deserve and March for Our Lives.
However, the economy turned out to be a much more potent driver for voters under 30, who are struggling financially, researchers noted before the election. Even immigration, Trump’s strongest issue, did not rank as high as financial health for young people.
The economy was the most important issue to young voters, and those who said it was their top issue voted for Trump 78% to Harris’ 21%, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/yes-trump-improved-young-men-drew-young-women-rcna179019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NBC exit polls</a> showed.

More than <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4973912-youth-groups-project-historic-gen-z-voter-turnout/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">41 million</a> Gen Z voters cast a ballot this election. Young voters notoriously do not turn out, but every cycle since 2018 more and more have been showing up at their polling places.
Based on the numbers, the young generation’s higher turnout does not automatically mean more votes for Democrats.
This election has put them on the defensive.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/colleges">Students</a> at <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/georgetown-university">Georgetown University</a> in Washington, D.C., are being treated like toddlers as they face <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/2024-election">election day</a> stress, per a letter obtained by The Free Press.
The elite college is offering stressed out students access to a so-called “Self-Care Suit,” the outlet <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/georgetown-election-safe-space-trump-kamala">noted</a>, where the young adults could occupy their time with hot cocoa, Lego building activities, mindfulness exercises, milk and cookies, coloring, and meditation. The offer was sent to students in the McCourt School of Public Policy.
“In recognition of these stressful times, all McCourt community members are welcome to gather &#8230; in the 3rd floor Commons to take a much needed break, joining us for mindfulness activities and snacks throughout the day,” the letter from the school’s director of student engagement Jaclyn Clevenger said.
Several other colleges have offered students similar amenities for them to deal with election stress. Attendees of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, are being offered cupcakes in addition to a “walkable labyrinth” featuring “calming lighting and music,” per the <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/11/05/us-news/georgetown-providing-self-care-suites-for-students-on-election-day-complete-with-milk-and-cookies-and-coloring-books/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=nypost">New York Post</a>.
Those students can also participate in a “Pause for Paws” event featuring animal cuddling and hot chocolate. If that’s not enough, then later this week, students can enter a “post election processing space.” They’ll be able to create art and eat baked potatoes there.

Missouri State University has put together “self-care no phone zone space” with calm jars, coloring pages, and sensory fidgets to help students deal with election emotions, The Free Press reported.
Virginia Tech students are being encouraged to &#8220;find [their] flow&#8221; on Election Day with methods such as collaborative art projects, per the college’s Cook Counseling Center Facebook <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1091994296266575&amp;set=a.623082459824430">page</a>. Other proposed stress reducers include free fidget toys, therapy dogs, guided stretching sessions, and science “hacks” for stress responses like fight or flight.

Northwestern <a href="https://planitpurple.northwestern.edu/event/622140">offered</a> students “puzzles, crafts, games, snacks, and a variety of brain break activities set up to help you reset, ground yourself, and enjoy connection” as attendees are encouraged to “recognize and prioritize [their] well-being.”

The University of California Berkeley&#8217;s student government is moving to prevent the College Republicans from hosting events on campus after an appearance by The Daily Wire&#8217;s Michael Knowles left students feeling “unsafe.”
The Berkeley College Republicans <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UCa-8jKddw">hosted</a> Knowles on October 7th, advertising the event with posters referencing Knowles’ calls to eradicate transgender ideology. Critics falsely claimed Knowles was calling for the eradication of transgender people, an assertion <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&amp;v=ypONvQ6mt2kigsh%3DMTc4MmM1YmI2Ng%3D%3D">echoed</a> by UC Berkeley Chancellor Richard Lyons.
“I was dismayed by recent posters calling for the elimination of transgender people,” Lyons said in a video, citing Knowles&#8217;s alleged comments as an example of “rhetoric endorsing violence on our campus community.”
Now, Berkeley&#8217;s student government is set to consider a measure that could deny funding and event space to the College Republicans.
“Some ASUC Senators have taken it upon themselves to issue condemnations of our First Amendment-protected activities, and have vowed to attempt to ‘hold BCR accountable,’” an <a href="https://www.instagram.com/berkeleycollegerepublicans/?hl=en">Instagram</a> post from the group reads. “This comes after they have been gathering support for and drafting resolutions to BCR as a club on campus and prohibit conservative speakers on campus.”
The California College Republicans, the parent organization overseeing the Berkeley College Republicans, <a href="https://www.cacollegegop.org/moxie/college-republicans-targeted-with-death-threats-violence-and-administrative-action-for-hosting-conservative-speaker">explained</a> how some on the campus are working to shut down the club’s activities and deprive it of funding.
Two student government senators “will be proposing a resolution to prevent any student organization from reserving campus space or allowing speakers to come on campus if their activities promote hate speech or create an unsafe environment for any students,” the California College Republicans noted.
“With the conservative movement on campus stronger than it has ever been, it is no surprise that the radical left attempts to spread lies and contort our words to scare off dissent,” UC Berkeley College Republicans President and California College Republicans Chairman Martin Bertao said in response to the controversy.
A university spokesman attempted to distance the school from the student government&#8217;s measure when asked about it by The Daily Wire, explaining that the student government is &#8220;autonomous and independent from the university, but still obviously subject to the laws of the land.&#8221;
While Lyons and members of the student government have claimed the College Republicans are engaging in alleged hate speech, the club itself has been the target of calls to violence.
Members of the club found posters placed on campus that read “KILL DONALD TRUMP AND ALL CAMPUS REPUBLICANS.” The College Republicans <a href="https://www.cacollegegop.org/moxie/college-republicans-targeted-with-death-threats-violence-and-administrative-action-for-hosting-conservative-speaker">note</a> that they are prepared to explore legal avenues to defend their safety if needed.

Anti-Semitic incidents have surged by 500% since October 7, 2023, with 1,200 reported incidents, according to new data from the Anti-Defamation League.
Following Hamas’ October 7 terrorist massacre of Israeli civilians in southern Israel — the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust — many campuses have been engulfed in protests. Students at campuses around the nation have been documented <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/deeply-sick-over-30-harvard-university-groups-blame-israel-after-hamas-commits-atrocities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defending</a> Hamas’s attack, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-harvard-students-chant-palestine-is-arab-during-on-campus-protest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">chanting ethnic cleansing slogans</a> against Israel, and setting up encampments that have led to the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/letter-from-harvard-community-calling-for-encampment-protesters-to-face-significant-consequences-passes-500-signatures" target="_blank" rel="noopener">harassment and intimidation</a> of Jewish students.
In the previous year’s same period, 200 anti-Semitic incidents were reported on college campuses, <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/press-release/over-10000-antisemitic-incidents-recorded-us-oct-7-2023-according-adl?gad_source=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjw9p24BhB_EiwA8ID5BnJQ-PXbDmjuFIhLnzpzlC3I7VJNfVhZoJclmW2Dd2JYwGwCt9E1WhoCfn8QAvD_BwE&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds">according</a> to the ADL.
“From that day on, Jewish Americans haven’t had a single moment of respite,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO. “Instead, we’ve faced a shocking number of antisemitic threats and experienced calls for more violence against Israelis and Jews everywhere.”
The Daily Wire has extensively reported on anti-Semitic incidents on college campuses, including Columbia student <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/anti-israel-columbia-student-sues-school-for-suspending-him-after-daily-wire-expose" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Khymani James saying</a> Zionists don’t deserve to live, and a Jewish student at Lawrence Technological University being suspended from his soccer team after reporting a teammate for assaulting him and making Nazi salutes at him.
Nationwide, there have been more than 10,000 anti-Semitic incidents since October 7 — a 200% increase compared to the prior year. This was the highest number of incidents the ADL recorded since it began tracking in 1979.
According to the ADL’s Center on Extremism, 8,015 of the incidents involved verbal or written harassment, 1,840 were acts of vandalism, and 150 were cases of physical assault.
Over 2,000 incidents occurred at Jewish institutions, including synagogues and Jewish centers, with half being bomb threats. In comparison, such institutions received 81 bomb threats during the previous same year period.
More than 3,000 incidents occurred during anti-Israel rallies, which have been documented to include support for terrorist groups including Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, as reported by The Daily Wire.

The ADL expects their figures to increase in its final 2024 report, to be released in the spring, as the group learns of more incidents over the past year.
The <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/report/audit-antisemitic-incidents-2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">organization&#8217;s methodology</a> includes tracking both criminal and non-criminal incidents of harassment, vandalism, and assault reported by victims, law enforcement, partner organizations, and media outlets.
While incidents in the data do not include general anti-Israel activism, since October 7, 2023, the group began to include incidents where anti-Israel activists support terrorism or attacks on Jews, Israelis, and Zionists.

An instructor at the University of Kansas has been placed on administrative leave after he was recorded telling his class that men who don’t vote for a female president should be shot.
The instructor, who has not been named, made the comments during a class earlier this semester – a video of which was posted to X on Wednesday morning.
“[If you think] guys are smarter than girls, you&#8217;ve got some serious problems,&#8221; the instructor said in the video. &#8220;That&#8217;s what frustrates me. There are going to be some males in our society that will refuse to vote for a potential female president because they don&#8217;t think females are smart enough to be president. We could line all those guys up and shoot them. They clearly don&#8217;t understand the way the world works.”

In a statement to The Daily Wire, the University of Kansas said the instructor had been placed on leave, “pending further investigation.”
“The instructor offers his sincerest apologies and deeply regrets the situation,” Erinn Barcomb-Peterson, the school’s director for news and media relations, told The Daily Wire in an email. “His intent was to emphasize his advocacy for women’s rights and equality, and he recognizes he did a very poor job of doing so. The university has an established process for situations like this and will follow that process.”
Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) shared the video on X, calling it “disturbing.”

It is unclear whether the instructor would have made the same comments if the Republican presidential nominee was a woman. It is also unclear how he thinks voting for someone just because they are a woman is not, in itself, sexist.
