Code Pink (which technically styles itself CODEPINK) is a far-left non-governmental organization that stridently opposes militarism, U.S. military involvement overseas, Zionism, and the state of Israel. Although many Code Pink activists take far-left stances on many domestic issues, including abortion and gun control, the organization itself tends to focus on issues pertaining to national security and foreign affairs.
Code Pink is militantly hostile to U.S. involvement in overseas military conflicts, U.S. support for Israel, U.S. drone strikes overseas, the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, and anything else that touches upon perceived Western “imperialism” or “colonialism.” Code Pink adamantly supports the Palestinian-Arab cause, supports the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, supports President Barack Obama’s Iran nuclear deal, and routinely condemns the U.S. main Sunni allies — such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Perhaps above all else, Code Pink — despite being co-led by an American Jew (Ariel Gold) — is known for its extreme hostility to Israel and intense disdain for the U.S.-Israel alliance.
Code Pink is notable for its public marches and protests, which are frequently loud and obtrusive. Although Code Pink was founded as a women’s grassroots movement and still predominantly leads women in their marches and protests, the organization also encourages men to attend its events.
How old is Code Pink? Code Pink was founded on November 17, 2002.
What is Code Pink’s organizational mission? Code Pink describes itself as a “women-led grassroots organization working to end U.S. wars and militarism, support peace and human rights initiatives, and redirect our tax dollars into healthcare, education, green jobs, and other life-affirming programs.” In reality, Code Pink exists as a far-left NGO that organizes grassroots and marches to oppose alleged American “imperialism,” to support BDS, and to oppose the state of Israel.
What kind of activities does Code Pink organize? Code Pink relies almost exclusively on grassroots marches and protests. Code Pink members also directly confront legislators and policymakers, often in hostile fashion.
