Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) railed against The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-times" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a> on Thursday over the newspaper fact-checking President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden">Joe Biden</a> after it published a report on how he made some <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/21/us/politics/fact-check-biden-economy.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;misleading&#8221; statements</a> about the economy, jobs, and taxes while on the campaign trail.
During an appearance on MSNBC, where she is an analyst, McCaskill shared with the hosts of &#8220;Morning Joe&#8221; an idea for how the Gray Lady and other news outlets ought to consider Biden&#8217;s rival, former President Donald Trump, before verifying or disputing the accuracy of what he says.
&#8220;Can I make a suggestion? I move that every newspaper in America quits doing any fact-checks on Joe Biden until they fact-check Donald Trump every morning on the front page. It is ridiculous that The New York Times fact-checked Joe Biden on something,&#8221; McCaskill said.

The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/by/angelo-fichera" target="_blank" rel="noopener">does examine the truthfulness of what Trump is saying</a>, as evidenced by a search of the author page of the same fact-checker who examined Biden&#8217;s economic talking points, as do other outlets <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/fact-checker/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">such as The Washington Post</a> — though perhaps not as regularly and prominently as McCaskill would like.

Sulzberger, the publisher of The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-times" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a>, recently said the White House is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-york-times-publisher-says-white-house-extremely-upset-with-coverage-of-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;extremely upset&#8221;</a> with unflattering coverage of Biden in regard to concerns about his age and low approval numbers.

In an interview with the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, which was <a href="https://reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/news/new-york-times-publisher-g-sulzberger-our-industry-needs-think-bigger" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> online on Monday, Sulzberger stressed the need to keep tabs on Biden, as well as Trump, as they both run for a second term.
&#8220;We are going to continue to report fully and fairly, not just on Donald Trump but also on President Joe Biden,&#8221; Sulzberger said. &#8220;He is a historically unpopular incumbent and the oldest man to ever hold this office. We’ve reported on both of those realities extensively, and the White House has been extremely upset about it.&#8221;

Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews claimed on Wednesday that rural Americans were essentially members of a &#8220;cult&#8221; and would &#8220;vote their craziness&#8221; if Democrats did not show up at the polls in numbers large enough to prevent them from doing so.
Matthews made an appearance during a panel discussion on Wednesday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;Morning Joe,&#8221; joined by fellow panelist and former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) as well as regular hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. He explained that if Democrats wanted to fight back on issues they cared about, they would have to make sure they voted in large numbers.

Brzezinski began by setting the stage, noting that the Iowa caucuses were just days away and primary elections would begin just a short time after.
McCaskill noted that caucuses could be awkward for those who are not supporting former President Donald Trump, particularly in more rural areas where he is more popular.
&#8220;If you are not on Donald Trump’s bandwagon, if you’re not a member of the cult, then you just stay quiet,&#8221; she said — but pointed out just how difficult that could be when there was a caucus rather than a traditional primary. &#8220;Everybody sees which — which corner of the room you go to, uh, who you are joining.&#8221;
&#8220;Iowa is days away. New Hampshire is coming up. And Donald Trump, given this conversation, even, is the clear frontrunner,&#8221; Brzezinski prompted, turning the floor over to Matthews.

&#8220;You know, I think President Biden gave a good speech on Friday. I think he began the conversation about the Constitution and democracy,&#8221; Matthews began. &#8220;But I think he has to turn the corner and go to the next step. The reason we love our democracy. The reason we all love it is, if we don’t like the government and they’re doing something, we can do something about it.&#8221;
Matthews went on to argue that the most important issue to vote for was civil rights, giving a rambling story about the city of Philadelphia to illustrate his point.
&#8220;You know, when I was growing up in Philadelphia, there were the black, a majority of black, majority now, they voted, they were highly registered voters. They were more registered than the white people. You know why? Because they had Frank Rizzo as mayor. You had a law and order guy, and they said, this is the only way we can defend ourselves. You had, you had black lives, this is an early case of that. You have to defend yourself. You have to vote to protect your rights in the Constitution.&#8221;
&#8220;The Bill of Rights was put there by Jefferson and Madison because people said the Constitution and democracy is not enough. We have to write in here our Bill of Rights,&#8221; Matthews continued, adding, &#8220;And I have to, and voters have to get out there and say, damn it, if I’m a young person, if I’m a black person, if I’m out in the streets and I don’t trust the cops, I got to vote that way. And if I am a woman, I want to protect myself in my own decisions. I’ve got to vote that way.&#8221;
He then argued that the 2024 election was likely to be a close one, saying that made it even more important for Democrats to get out and vote: &#8220;It’s going to be very close in places like Pennsylvania, and you’re gonna have rural people out there voting their craziness about the cult, so you better be there to match them and you got to be there. Vote against that. And I’m telling you, this is really important that you vote for your rights.&#8221;
&#8220;I know it is. And for women especially, we’ve already lost many rights,&#8221; Brzezinski said, referencing the overturning of the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade. &#8220;Fifty years of rights.&#8221;

As the great Tina Turner once said, &#8220;What&#8217;s love got to do with it?&#8221; Well, as it relates to the GOP&#8217;s &#8220;dogged investigation&#8221; of the Biden family crime saga, love doesn&#8217;t have anything to do with it.
Yet for former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), that&#8217;s what the entire fuss is about — as she sees it.
On Wednesday evening, after Hunter Biden&#8217;s plea deal completely derailed thanks to Judge Maryellen Noreika, former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki used her MSNBC prime time show to push propaganda for her old boss. She brought on her comrade McCaskill as a guest.
At no point in the interview did Psaki inform her viewers that on Wednesday the Department of Justice admitted Hunter is being <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/doj-reveals-hunter-biden-still-under-federal-investigation-potential-fara-violations">investigated</a> for potential Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA) violations and could be charged.

Furthermore, Psaki left out that the plea agreement in its past form would have granted Biden near-universal immunity for future charges — which is a major reason why the judge didn&#8217;t accept the deal.  However, as several former federal prosecutors have pointed out, Noreika did not accept the deal because the DOJ-Biden agreement was unprecedented and would have effectively been universal immunity, tying her and other judge&#8217;s hands in the event Hunter receives future charges. Yet Psaki used the segment to push the notion that it was former President Donald J. Trump&#8217;s DOJ — not Biden&#8217;s DOJ — that was corrupt and did the president&#8217;s bidding.
If you thought that was bad, it paled in comparison to McCaskill&#8217;s take on the situation. The ex-senator claimed that Republicans would respond to the entire fiasco by trying &#8220;to indict a father for loving his son, who has been addicted to drugs and/or alcohol and without evidence of the father doing anything other than loving his son.&#8221;

She also said that the DOJ and Hunter&#8217;s attorneys were worried that Trump would get re-elected and revoke the plea deal. So, she argued, this plea deal was arranged so that the judge would be the arbiter if Hunter violated his diversion program. The judge wasn&#8217;t comfortable with that — as McCaskill saw it — thus rejecting the plea deal.
Of course, that doesn&#8217;t pass the smell test. As William Shipley, an attorney and former federal prosecutor saw it, Noreika knew something was amiss with the deal.

&#8220;Judges see so many plea agreements in the course of just a single year they realize immediately when something isn&#8217;t right, and then they ask questions,&#8221; he tweeted. &#8220;That&#8217;s what happened here. She realized something wasn&#8217;t kosher and she may issue a &#8216;Show Cause&#8217; Order asking for an explanation of why the two linked issues were placed in separate documents and then did not call attention to one another.&#8221;
&#8220;This was a &#8216;hidden&#8217; global plea agreement — and the fact that they tried to pull that off is all the GOP House needs to impeach Merrick Garland,&#8221; he added.

It appears that the broad nature of the deal was &#8220;hidden&#8221; to shield from the public that Hunter would be effectively granted immunity for any future FARA violations.
Yet, in McCaskill&#8217;s telling, the FARA portion of it is a small matter.
&#8220;And frankly, they&#8217;ll probably work out if he&#8217;s got immunity from FARA, the federal lobbying statute,&#8221; McCaskill said of what Biden&#8217;s legal team and the DOJ will do next.
Psaki never asked why that would need to be worked out — nor why Hunter would be in violation of FARA.
Nobody should have expected anything different from the likes of Psaki and McCaskill, but the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-passport-propaganda-and-trump-beware-the-government-media-complex" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Government-Media Complex</a> in action is always breathtaking to watch.

MSNBC host <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/nicolle-wallace/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nicolle Wallace</a> suggested Monday that the United States might need a &#8220;Democracy commission&#8221; or some other organization that could save America from the Republicans — and she thought that former President <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/barack-obama/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barack Obama</a> could potentially spearhead such an effort.
Wallace, who hosts &#8220;Deadline: White House&#8221; on the left-leaning network posed the question to former Senator <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/claire-mccaskill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Claire McCaskill</a> (D-MO) — and even McCaskill quickly dismissed the idea that a &#8220;commission&#8221; of any sort was necessary.

&#8220;The reason I started by asking if we&#8217;d ever been here before is because I think as a country we all have to participate in it,&#8221; Wallace began. &#8220;Because if you have kids, your kids wake up, if you have anything to do with an election, if you&#8217;re an election worker or a news anchor, they want to know what happened.&#8221;
Wallace went on to say that, much like the week following the 2020 presidential election, election days in the future could stretch into weeks because the results were just not known by the end of the day.
&#8220;I think we have to have a conversation as a country about how we might not know the next morning what happened,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;We might not know the day after that — and that is their point!&#8221;
&#8220;That is their point!&#8221; Wallace said again, going on to argue that some Republicans were not even running to win, necessarily, but rather, to muddy the waters and sow chaos and confusion. &#8220;Some of them will [win], unfortunately. They are running to sow discord in America. And it will change everything.&#8221;
Wallace continued down that path, claiming that Election Day might not even be a thing in two years&#8217; time and suggesting that it might be Election Week instead.
&#8220;What we are watching, and because it&#8217;s so slow, it&#8217;s so slow, we don&#8217;t cover it as a five-alarm fire but it is,&#8221; Wallace added. &#8220;We are watching Republicans not just destroying Democracy in the dark, breaking into election offices and plugging stuff in, we&#8217;re watching them do it from rally stages. Debate stages. That&#8217;s where they&#8217;re doing it.&#8221;
Wallace then asked McCaskill directly whether she thought such unprecedented behavior called for a &#8220;Democracy commission,&#8221; adding, &#8220;Should President Obama ask Chris Christie and Ben Ginsberg to sort of man a Democracy hotline, you know, man other crises — what should we do?&#8221;
McCaskill quickly pulled back from the idea of a commission, saying instead that Republicans just had to be better. &#8220;It just take Republicans that have some character and integrity,&#8221; she said.

Former Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill said her party is struggling with a number of aging lawmakers as voters get ready to head to the ballot box for the November midterms.
McCaskill shared the remarks during a panel discussion on NBC&#8217;s &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; on Sunday.
“But I will tell you I do think the Democratic Party is struggling with an issue that is real,” McCaskill said. “All of our leadership — and I say this as somebody who’s ancient — you know, a lot of old folks are running the Democratic Party now in every part of the Democratic Party,”

McCaskill also looked ahead at the 2024 election, noting the importance of involving more younger Americans in the party&#8217;s leadership.
“I think the Democratic Party will benefit from really doing some navel-gazing about how can we get more young people to the forefront because young people are going to be really important to us in 2024,” she noted.
McCaskill&#8217;s comments come after CBS News released a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/elected-officials-maximum-age-limits-opinion-poll-2022-09-08/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab6j&amp;linkId=180549242" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a> on Thursday that showed 73% of respondents support age limits for elected officials. A total of 18% agreed with an age limit of 80 years old, while 40% agreed with an age limit of 70.
President Joe Biden, currently 79, would be the oldest person re-elected if he wins another term in 2024. He has also faced growing concerns about his cognitive health since entering office.
Fifty-three GOP lawmakers joined in a letter in July led by former White House physician Ronny Jackson that demanded Biden take a cognitive exam and share the results with Americans.
“While you underwent your annual physical exam on November 19, 2021, you either did not face a cognitive test or those results were withheld from the public,” Jackson <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/50-lawmakers-sign-onto-brutal-letter-to-biden-from-ex-obama-doctor-demanding-biden-get-cognitive-test" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>. “White House Physician Kevin O’Connor, D.O., attested to you being ‘fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency’ in a very superficial, and purely physical manner; however, we are worried about your mental abilities.”
In the Senate, both parties face the concern of <a href="https://fiscalnote.com/blog/how-old-is-the-117th-congress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aging leaders</a>. Seven senators are at least 80, with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) the oldest at 89, followed by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL), both at 88 years old.
In the House, ten members of the 117th Congress were listed as 80 years old or older. Nine of the ten octogenarians were Democrats.
McCaskill also said that Biden was often looked down upon as vice president under former President Barack Obama.
&#8220;I remember distinctly being in the Cloak Room in the first two years of the Biden vice presidency, and how many of my colleagues were looking down their noses at Joe Biden. Mocking him,&#8221; McCaskill <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meet-press-september-11-2022-n1298826" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;&#8216;It&#8217;s a hard, hard job – the vice presidency.&#8221;

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough lashed out at those with lingering doubts about the 2020 presidential election in a red-faced rant during the first hour of Friday’s “Morning Joe.” Those who don’t accept the outcome of the 2020 election at face value should “get the Hell out,” because they’re “unworthy” of being Americans, he said. Those citizens should be replaced by “millions of immigrants” who will “fight” for Scarborough’s version of the American “creed.”
Later in the show, his words were seconded by a former Democratic U.S. senator.
“America: love it or leave it!” Scarborough <a href="https://twitter.com/tomselliott/status/1395689496377704451?s=21">screamed</a>, quoting a phrase <a href="https://www.si.edu/es/object/nmah_1423537">embraced</a> by conservatives during the Cold War.
“If you don&#8217;t have respect in American democracy anymore, if you don&#8217;t respect Madisonian checks and balances if your guy doesn&#8217;t win — if that&#8217;s the new rules of engagement for this great republic, then just leave our country! Because you&#8217;re unworthy of it!” he said, his voice rising, intensity escalating, as he wagged his finger at viewers.
Scarborough called for a new wave of ultra-patriotic immigrants to take their place.
“There are millions of immigrants who will come here and raise their right hand and buy into the creed, and believe that we are exceptional, that believe American democracy is the greatest government on the face of the Earth!” he continued. “And they will do it proudly — they will salute the flag proudly! And most importantly, they will fight for what that flag represents while you shame yourself, while you disgrace yourself, while you disgrace our great country in the eyes of the world. Yes, this is all on you,” he continued.
A poll conducted by PRRI earlier this month <a href="https://www.prri.org/spotlight/the-big-lie-most-republicans-believe-the-2020-election-was-stolen/">found</a> that “two-thirds of Republicans (66%) agree that the election was stolen.”
Scarborough said they were insufficiently educated or patriotic.
“Get the facts! Live in the light! Follow the truth! And love this country!” he said, as he resumed yelling. “And stop this! Or leave — or leave. On Monday, former Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) said Republicans and the pro-life movement &#8220;will not be happy until a rape victim is put in prison for taking the morning-after pill.&#8221; Her comments came in reaction to the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision to take up the case of a Mississippi law that bans abortions after 15 weeks. The case could pave the way for the conservative-leaning court to limit abortion rights that were solidified in the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.
“Yeah, this may end up being the situation that is often described as the dog catching the bus. And what happens in America in terms of the political climate if, in fact, this court overturns decades of precedent and fails to protect women’s reproductive freedoms via this Mississippi case. And, I got to tell you, Nicole, I don’t think younger voters remember what it was like before Roe v. Wade. I don’t think they realize these folks will not be happy until a rape victim is put in prison for taking the morning-after pill,&#8221; McCaskill <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/clips/2021/05/17/mccaskill-gop-wont-be-happy-until-rape-victim-is-put-in-prison-for-taking-morning-after-pill/">said</a>, referring to Republicans and pro-life advocates. &#8220;That’s the road they are going down. That’s the road they’ve been trying to go down for a long time even though they are really pushing provisions that are widely rejected by the vast majority of Americans.”
According to McCaskill, red states with Republican-controlled legislators &#8220;will immediately begin shutting down the ability of women to have the ability to choose to terminate a pregnancy with all kinds of limitations. And, eventually, they&#8217;re going to keep pushing these cases up until there are none left except the few states that might make it legal. And that&#8217;s the way it was before Roe v. Wade was passed before the court, what, 40, 50 years ago.&#8221;
Host Nicole Wallace asked the former senator to expand on what life was like before the landmark Supreme Court case was solidified.
&#8220;You know, for young women who went to Planned Parenthood in college and got birth control, for young women who have never known the fear of an unwanted pregnancy, have never know what that represents in their lives if there is not a safe and legal place to terminate a pregnancy, this will all be a wakeup call,&#8221; McCaskill explained. &#8220;This will be a shock to their systems.&#8221;
The former senator said if the Supreme Court decides to uphold Mississippi&#8217;s abortion ban, &#8220;young women will be a driving force in the midterm elections,&#8221; particularly if pro-abortion groups &#8220;are doing their job.&#8221;
As <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/supreme-court-takes-up-mississippi-abortion-case-that-could-limit-roe-v-wade">The Daily Wire</a> reported, &#8220;Mississippi’s [abortion ban] is a largely straightforward ban, giving the Court the opportunity to look at how Roe v. Wade, which legalizes abortion prior to fetal viability — a standard which now hovers somewhere between 22 and 24 weeks of pregnancy.&#8221;
&#8220;The appellants presented three questions: whether &#8216;all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional,&#8217; which standard these types of laws should be judged under by the courts, and whether abortion providers have the standing to challenge a law restricting access to abortion after a certain period of time if they, themselves, are not the target of the abortion restriction,&#8221; per a prior report from The Daily Wire.
According to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/17/us/politics/supreme-court-abortion.html">The New York Times</a>, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case in the next term, which begins in October.

&#8220;Think how far the Republican Party has fallen,&#8221; McCaskill said. &#8220;Now, not only do they accept people committing insurrection and sedition against our government, not only do they accept the President of the United States committing a fraud, a &#8216;big lie&#8217; on our democracy, which we treasure, not only are they doing that, they&#8217;re continuing to sit silently as they oust a truth teller.&#8221;
&#8220;If one of these Republicans has the nerve to talk about cancel culture with what they&#8217;re doing to Liz Cheney, I would use such an unlady-like word right now if I could. I mean, eff ‘em,'&#8221; the Democrat continued, adding, &#8220;They want to lecture about Dr. Seuss and the cancel culture, and they are cancelling her, they are canceling Liz Cheney because she audacity to tell the truth. And I want to see a strong Republican Party.”
“This party, Republican Party today, is showing so much dishonor to the people who made it possible, the people who [inaudible] from Abraham Lincoln kept this party alive on the basis of anti-slavery, which, itself, was a big lie,” Clyburn continued. “And now, they’re perpetuating it.”
“Now they talk a lot about ‘cancel culture,’ this is the classic cancel culture,” the Democrat claimed. “They are perpetrating that which they argue they are against.”

In the case of Cheney, Republican voters and leading representatives have voiced their frustrations with Rep. Cheney for her strident and incessant anti-Trump efforts, seemingly letting the ultra-progressive Biden administration off the hook. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know how the right got so far ahead creating such a political connotation around the conversation of vaccine passports but again, down here on planet earth, just about every college that has announced back-to-school policies for the fall has announced a policy that includes proof of vaccination,&#8221; MSNBC&#8217;s Nicolle Wallace said.
According to Wallace, providing proof of a COVID vaccine is no different than parents having to provide other immunization records when a student is enrolled in school.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t know, but it&#8217;s bad,&#8221; a wide-eyed Claire McCaskill replied. &#8220;I live in a state that the state legislature is dominated by Trumpers and they are busy making it illegal for a business to require a passport, a vaccine passport.&#8221;
McCaskill echoed Wallace&#8217;s earlier point, saying she too had to provide vaccine records to her children&#8217;s school. The former senator also said she had to provide her own immunization records before traveling to foreign countries for work.
She went on to blame Republicans for &#8220;politicizing&#8221; mask-wearing and now leading the alleged politicization of the COVID vaccine.
&#8220;This is just, this is not – the fact that they first politicized masks and people died, and now they&#8217;re politicizing the appropriate way to encourage people to get vaccines, which will cost lives,&#8221; the former U.S. senator explained.

Dr. Anthony Fauci has said the federal government won&#8217;t implement nationwide vaccine passports, and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki echoed that sentiment, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/these-states-are-attempting-ban-or-curtail-use-vaccine-passports-n1264665">NBC News</a> reported.
&#8220;Development of a vaccine passport, or whatever you want to call it, will be driven by the private sector,&#8221; Psaki said a few weeks ago.
Public discussions surrounding the use of vaccine passports are why various red states, like <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/idaho-becomes-fourth-state-to-ban-vaccine-passports">Idaho</a>, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/florida-gov-ron-desantis-delivers-on-promise-bans-vaccine-passports-with-executive-order">Florida</a>, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-texas-bans-vaccine-passports">Texas</a>, and Utah, have banned them from being implemented in their respective states.
In other states, like New York, residents have the ability to pull up a digital copy of their vaccine records or a recent negative COVID-19 test, <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2021/03/26/covid-vaccine-passports-new-york-first-vaccination-proof-system/6976009002/">USA Today</a> reported. It&#8217;s similar to the mobile apps airline passengers use to check into a flight.
There are security concerns, especially on the digital front, with personal health information. Another concern is the slippery slope that would take place if businesses began checking Americans for the COVID vaccine. What&#8217;s to stop them from requiring proof of immunization for all potential diseases and illnesses, even if a person&#8217;s doctor warns against particular vaccines, for whatever reason?
And then there is the issue of businesses being forced to implement this government regulation. Private business owners, who are simply trying to make a living, are told to make sure every person coming in and out of their business has the COVID shot. What happens if a business refuses to get involved in their customers&#8217; medical decisions? Will the government shut them down? Who will be responsible for the overhead associated with checking vaccine passports? Oh, that&#8217;s right. The business owner.

MSNBC contributor Claire McCaskill, a former Democratic senator from Missouri, suggested on Wednesday morning that President Donald Trump&#8217;s promotion of hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for COVID-19 could be driven by financial gain, specifically if Russian President Vladimir Putin profits from it.
Describing the United States as &#8220;a country where states are on fire with coronavirus,&#8221; MSNBC host Willie Geist said that &#8220;people are worried about their jobs and they&#8217;re worried about whether or not their kids are going to go back to school.&#8221; Yet, Geist said, &#8220;you see a president standing there who doesn&#8217;t grasp that, who&#8217;s not handling that, who&#8217;s hoping that this magic bullet, a pill called hydroxychloroquine, which has been proven not to be effective, as Dr. Fauci said, will somehow, as he has said, &#8216;magically make this all disappear.'&#8221;
McCaskill responded, &#8220;Yeah, Willie, I can answer the president&#8217;s question. He wants to know why his approval ratings are so low. It&#8217;s because he&#8217;s a dangerous, incompetent jerk.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s not any more complicated than that,&#8221; McCaskill, who lost re-election to Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) in 2018, said. &#8220;I really am interested on this hydroxychloroquine. I&#8217;m interested to ask Jonathan Lemire, as he&#8217;s in the press room and as he&#8217;s working his sources and his news agency is working sources, I&#8217;m assuming there&#8217;s investigative types out there following the money on hydroxy.&#8221;
&#8220;Because it&#8217;s the only thing that makes sense,&#8221; McCaskill stressed. &#8220;You know, does Putin have a stake in hydroxy? You know, is the Deutsche Bank backing hydroxy? It is baffling to me that there is such a chorus within the Trump base and the Trump media outlets and Trump about this drug. It has to be money.&#8221;

The segment comes after a reporter asked Trump yesterday about a video post he retweeted that claimed that the drug was effective at treating COVID-19.
&#8220;Well, that was — I wasn’t making claims,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-press-briefing-july-28-2020/">said</a>. &#8220;The — it’s recommendations of many other peoples and — people, including doctors. Many doctors think it is extremely successful, the hydroxychloroquine, coupled with the zinc and perhaps the azithromycin. But many doctors think it&#8217;s extremely good, and some people don&#8217;t. &#8230; I think it&#8217;s become very political.&#8221;
&#8220;I happen to believe in it. I would take it,&#8221; Trump continued. &#8220;As you know, I took it for a 14-day period, and I&#8217;m here. Right? I&#8217;m here. I happen to think it works in the early stages. I think frontline medical people believe that too — some, many. And so we&#8217;ll take a look at it.&#8221;
Trump noted that the drug has been around for a long time and has been used to treat a variety of illnesses.
As The Daily Wire reported Tuesday, both Twitter and Facebook <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/twitter-facebook-delete-viral-video-promoted-by-trump-on-covid-19-and-hydroxychloroquine">pulled the video</a> posted by Trump from a group called America&#8217;s Frontline Doctors, stating that the video contained unproven and refuted claims.
While an April survey of more than 6,000 physicians across 30 countries conducted by Sermo found that 37% listed hydroxychloroquine as the &#8220;most effective therapy&#8221; for the disease, in May, &#8220;the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ended the emergency use of the anti-malarial drug for COVID-19, while the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced in June that they, too, would end their own clinical trial because it was &#8216;unlikely to be beneficial to hospitalized patients.'&#8221;
&#8220;Also in June, The New England Journal of Medicine reported on a study that showed that taking hydroxychloroquine was about equal to placebo pills at preventing illness from COVID-19,&#8221; The Daily Wire noted. &#8220;Then in July, the World Health Organization (WHO) also changed its recommendation for the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 after research showed &#8216;little or no reduction&#8217; in deaths from the virus.&#8221;
Dr. Fauci has also described the drug as ineffective for treating the disease. “The overwhelming prevailing clinical trials that have looked at the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine have indicated that it is not effective in coronavirus disease,” Fauci told ABC’s &#8220;Good Morning America&#8221; on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, former Missouri Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill, appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” went on a rant in which she claimed President Trump was “deathly afraid,” “panicked,” and then pontificated a seemingly universal but laughable Democratic claim that there was “not a hint of corruption during eight years of Barack Obama.”
As <a href="https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/tim-graham/2020/05/20/mccaskill-drags-out-no-hint-corruption-obama-biden-days">Newsbusters</a> reported, McCaskill started her rant:
<blockquote>I think there will be three metrics that this president is deathly afraid of, to use an unfortunate phrase He’s gonna be afraid of the unemployment numbers in September and October, and so far, the complicated and byzantine stimulus that’s been put forward has not eased unemployment. And that’s the measure here, not the stock market; how may people are in bread lines and how many people don’t have jobs and how many people have lost health care. That’s the measure. And then, what is the daily body count in September and October. How many people are dying every day from this virus in September and October and how many new cases are showing up every day. There’s no way there will be a vaccine before September or October.</blockquote>
Then she posited that Trump was lying about his prospective 2020 opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden:
<blockquote>So what is the president’s playbook? Looking down that tunnel, his playbook is to go to what worked for him in 2016 and is to lie about his opponent. And what that thing was with the senators —I’ve got to get this in —what that thing was with the senators yesterday, he went to that lunch to tell them to lie for him. “You’ve got to lie about Barack Obama and Joe Biden. You’ve got to turn them into something they are not. You got to make them criminals.”</blockquote>
Her rant continued by lionizing the legacy of Obama and Biden as she claimed they had done &#8220;nothing illegal&#8221;:
<blockquote>He wants to get to the point where they’re chanting “Lock them up” at his rallies about Obama and Biden, who have done nothing illegal. Nothing, nothing, not even close! Not a hint of corruption during eight years of Barack Obama. No wholesale firing of inspector generals. So I really think it’s startling that he’s so panicked that he felt the need to go down there to shore up the Republicans, you guys got to get tougher and lie better because that’s essentially what his message was yesterday.</blockquote>
