Around 10:00 a.m. on Friday, a man named Rodney Hinton went to his lawyer&#8217;s office in Ohio and watched body camera footage of his son&#8217;s death. In particular, the footage shows Hinton&#8217;s 18-year-old son, Ryan, emerging from a stolen vehicle while carrying a handgun. At one point, Ryan drops the gun, then picks it up. Soon afterwards, he&#8217;s shot and killed by a police officer. None of these facts are in dispute. The video makes it all very clear. Watch:

The reason the Hinton family was watching this footage in an attorney&#8217;s office is that, of course, they were contemplating a lawsuit against the city for wrongful death. That was certainly what their attorney was thinking about. In fact, even after viewing this footage, the family&#8217;s lawyer — who incidentally works for &#8220;The Cochran Firm,&#8221; as in the late Johnny Cochran&#8217;s firm — maintained that they had a case.
Here&#8217;s what the <a href="https://local12.com/news/local/family-members-of-18-year-old-killed-by-cincinnati-officer-to-speak-out-ryan-rodney-hinton-larry-henderson-traffic-detail-deputy-mother-grandmother-police-stolen-car-arrest-murder">family&#8217;s lawyer said</a>, as a way of arguing that the police officers were somehow responsible in this scenario:
<blockquote>Being in a stolen car, having a firearm, firearms—we&#8217;re in Ohio, you know, so you can open carry in Ohio, so that&#8217;s not a death penalty.</blockquote>
Admittedly, it&#8217;s not quite as catchy as &#8220;If the glove doesn&#8217;t fit, you must acquit&#8221; but it&#8217;s still a pretty remarkable line of argument from the Cochran Firm, all things considered. After watching the footage of Ryan Hinton exiting a stolen car with a handgun, then dropping the handgun and picking it up as police chased him, and then turning towards the officers, the conclusion from these lawyers is that Ryan Hinton was murdered simply for open-carrying a firearm. He got the &#8220;death penalty&#8221; for doing nothing wrong whatsoever. Even though his gun wasn&#8217;t holstered, and even though he was waving it around while committing a felony, and even though all of this is recorded, we&#8217;re supposed to conclude that Ryan Hinton was &#8220;open-carrying.&#8221;
This is a level of shamelessness that, in another era, would lead to a flurry of lawyer jokes on late-night television. But it&#8217;s not a joke to millions of people at the moment. It certainly wasn&#8217;t a joke to Rodney Hinton, the father of the teenager who was killed. Just hours after he viewed the body camera footage of his son&#8217;s death, Rodney Hinton got in his car with the intent of executing a police officer. He saw it as an act of revenge. And ultimately, he found a target: He ran over a recently retired sheriff&#8217;s deputy who was directing traffic outside the commencement ceremony at the University of Cincinnati. The slain officer, a Hamilton County deputy named Larry Henderson, had never met his killer before. They never exchanged words. Watch:

Rodney Hinton knew that police were justified in killing his son because he had just watched the body-camera footage. He knew that the police did nothing wrong. If the father wanted revenge on anyone for causing his son&#8217;s death, he should have taken revenge on himself. If your 18-year-old son is out with a gun stealing cars, it means you failed as a father. Even a minimal amount of fatherly guidance would have been enough to avoid this situation.
But instead of taking revenge on himself, Rodney Hinton decided to kill a police officer who was directing traffic. This should be an open and shut case, in every sense. The father is a murderer. His &#8220;revenge&#8221; obviously cannot be defended legally. Any hope of defending it morally is destroyed by the fact that, for one thing, the shooting of Ryan Hinton was justified. And secondly, the cop he killed had nothing to do with it anyway. This is not a Gary Plauche situation, where a father ambushed and killed the man who kidnapped and molested his son. This is an act of premeditated, cold-blooded murder against a random white cop.

And yet — stop me if you&#8217;ve heard this one before — this murderer is being lionized and defended on social media. The father who just executed a sheriff&#8217;s deputy, in order to avenge his criminal son who flashed a gun at the cops, is the latest celebrity in certain corners of social media. The viral clips defending this murderer are all over TikTok. Here&#8217;s just one example:

He gets the age of the so-called &#8220;kid&#8221; wrong, as he&#8217;s showing the sympathetic photos in the background. Ryan Hinton was 18, not 16, when he jumped out of the stolen car with a firearm. But the bigger issue with this video is the claim that the father &#8220;took justice into his own hands&#8221; by murdering a random police officer. Notice how there&#8217;s no pretext here, about how the officers did something wrong, or violated procedure, or any of that. There&#8217;s no explanation of how it&#8217;s &#8220;justice&#8221; to kill a random traffic cop — or to &#8220;un-alive&#8221; a traffic cop, as this guy puts it. It&#8217;s just assumed that killing a random white police officer is an appropriate response to the death of a black criminal. And millions of people find this reasoning persuasive at the moment. That&#8217;s the situation we&#8217;re now in.
For the past half-century or so, every aspect of American civic life has been devoted, at least superficially, to preventing a situation like this. If you spend trillions of dollars enacting a regime that rigidly enforces the seemingly laudable goal of &#8220;racial equality,&#8221; then surely, eventually, you&#8217;ll arrive at a point where all men are judged based solely on the content of their character. That is the grand experiment we&#8217;ve all been participating in for our entire lives. And with each passing day, it is becoming more and more clear that this experiment is crashing down all around us. We are heading, very directly, towards open and overt racial conflict.
To that end, here&#8217;s another similar video, which has more than 20,000 likes on TikTok. We&#8217;ll mute the audio because it&#8217;s obnoxious rap music. But here&#8217;s what it looks like:

It shows Rodney Hinton in court, in a jumpsuit, surrounded by a bunch of police officers. And there&#8217;s the caption that the uploader has added: &#8220;They really try to use over 30 deputies to intimidate Rodney Hinton but he kept his head up.&#8221;
Again, this post has more than 20,000 likes. This is not some random troll that didn&#8217;t get any attention. It&#8217;s one of the most popular posts about Rodney Hinton&#8217;s arrest. And people are responding to it because they genuinely believe that Hinton is a hero. There&#8217;s no rational argument that he&#8217;s innocent, or that he was justified, or that his son was innocent. This is pure racial resentment, spilling right out into the open.
Another post, with roughly 70,000 likes on TikTok, describes Rodney Hinton as a &#8220;mourning father,&#8221; complete with somber music. We&#8217;ll play part of that:

Look around any social media platform, and you&#8217;ll find plenty of posts like this. 
It&#8217;s not just TikTok. On X, <a href="https://x.com/Blackcapitalis/status/1919132779767386157">here&#8217;s a post</a> with roughly 700 likes:
<blockquote>Rodney Hinton had no criminal record before he killed an Ohio  cop in retaliation for the cops killing his son . The police department brought 30 cops to his hearing to intimidate him.</blockquote>
So apparently, you get to kill a cop if you have no prior criminal record. And the police aren&#8217;t allowed to guard you, either, even after you&#8217;ve just murdered someone.
Then there&#8217;s <a href="https://x.com/Duatronica/status/1919205862096142651">this post</a>, with more than a thousand likes:
<blockquote>All I’m saying is this. If a cop killed my son…I’m airing out the precinct. Rodney Hinton Jr. is a saint and a hero.</blockquote>
Yesterday we discussed the story of Shiloh Hendrix, the woman who has now raised hundreds of thousands of dollars after using a racial slur at a playground. What&#8217;s happening now with Rodney Hinton is yet another example of why Shiloh Hendrix has raised all of that money. If you&#8217;re saying that &#8220;justice&#8221; is somehow served by the execution of a random white police officer, in the name of defending a thug who stole a car and flashed a gun — and many people are saying this — then you don&#8217;t get to clutch your pearls because of Shiloh Hendrix. The standards are so wildly out of whack that it’s just not sustainable. “It’s okay if we kill people but not okay if you use naughty language” is not just a double standard. It’s flat out madness — a kind of moral schizophrenia.
It&#8217;s an unsustainable approach. And with every day, it becomes more and more apparent that we simply can&#8217;t continue on this trajectory. People are tired of it.  If large numbers of black people are openly defending and cheering for actual murderers who kill white people in cold blood, then you cannot tell white people that they have to make a big show of condemning a woman who says a bad word. That&#8217;s especially true as more and more white people are executed, without any media attention whatsoever.
For example, you probably haven&#8217;t heard the story of a 22-year-old woman named Logan Federico in South Carolina. Here she is, on the left:

According to the authorities, Logan Federico was, &#8220;randomly murdered by a career criminal&#8221; who was &#8220;on a spree of thefts, break-ins and credit card fraud.&#8221; That career criminal, 30-year-old Alexander Dickey, allegedly &#8220;broke into a neighboring home around 3:00 a.m. and stole a firearm, credit and debit cards, and keys to a vehicle. &#8230; [He] then allegedly entered the house where Federico was staying, entered her room, and shot her, before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle.&#8221;
Somehow that story didn&#8217;t get much national attention.
Neither did this one, involving the execution of Tara and Taylor Jones in front of their home in the affluent neighborhood of Wellington Florida last year:

Surveillance footage shows that Tara and Taylor Jones were shot to death by a 63-year-old mechanic named Norman Scott, without any provocation of any kind. Again, there was no outrage. There was no public show of support for these victims.
Instead, we&#8217;re now at the point where three cold-blooded killers in the span of a few months have found large cheering sections on social media, including Rodney Hinton, Karmelo Anthony and Luigi Mangione. In fact, one of these viral TikTok videos supporting Rodney Hinton — with more than 20,000 likes — actually brings up Luigi Mangione in this context. Watch:

There&#8217;s one useful aspect of this TikTok video, which is that it makes the point that this situation isn’t all about race. Luigi Mangione was obviously white, and plenty of people justified his actions too. In fact, as you probably recall, some people who call themselves &#8220;conservatives&#8221; also justified Luigi Mangione&#8217;s actions. And that tells us that we&#8217;re witnessing a general breakdown of law and order, on top of the racial violence. Decades of justifying and excusing criminality have led us to a point where people who commit blatant first-degree murder are celebrated, at least if they&#8217;re viewed as allies of the political Left. Again: we&#8217;ve now had three of these cases in five months.
As you continue to hear the high-pitched outrage over Shiloh Hendrix, keep in mind that nothing she did, in any universe, could ever end your life or the life of anyone you care about. The people cheering the execution of an innocent police officer or a CEO or a white high school student at a track meet, on the other hand, are actually dangerous. They&#8217;re the ones you should be hearing about, nonstop. They&#8217;re the actual threat to you and your family. They&#8217;re the ones who are trying to bring about a complete breakdown in law and order. They’re the ones who want racial conflict. And as the execution of this police officer in Cincinnati once again demonstrates, even if they can&#8217;t destroy someone like Shiloh Hendrix, they will still do everything in their power to destroy you.

This Man Was Just Arrested For Murdering A Retired Cop. Now He’s Being Hailed As A Hero.

The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) filed a civil rights complaint on Wednesday against Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center over several scholarship programs the legal firm says illegally discriminate based on race and sex. 
The <a href="https://will-law.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/HHS-OCR-Complaint-Cincinnati-Childrens-Race-Sex-Discrimination-12-17-2024-FINAL-with-Encl.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">complaint</a>, filed with the Office of Civil Rights for the Department of Health and Human Services, took aim at four specific programs offered by the hospital to “underrepresented groups.” WILL said the programs violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits federal dollars from going toward racially discriminatory programs, and asked federal officials to launch an investigation. 
“Despite a national shortage of healthcare workers, some major healthcare systems in America still want to use taxpayer funds to discriminate on the basis of race and sex against otherwise eligible candidates,” WILL lawyer Cara Tolliver told The Daily Wire. “This is not just illegal, it’s nonsensical. The healthcare system cannot care for patients effectively, safely and efficiently, when medical education and training programs prioritize irrelevant identity politics over individual merit and essential qualities.”
The programs in question are the William K. Schubert Minority Nursing Scholarship, the Jean Turner Minority Scholarship for Medical Imaging Technology, the Biomedical Research Internship for Minority Students (BRIMS), and the Administrative Fellowship Program. 
According to the hospital, the <a href="https://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/careers/diverse-workforce/schubert" target="_blank" rel="noopener">goal</a> of the William K. Schubert Minority Nursing Scholarship, which provides $2,750 in tuition aid to pediatric nursing students, is to “increase the diversity of registered nurses.” Applicants must be from an “underrepresented group,” which excludes white women. 
The Ohio hospital defines those underrepresented as “male nurses/nursing students and nurses/nursing students who are American Indian or Alaskan Native, Black or African American, Hawaiian Native or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino, and/or Asian including Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Asian Indian, Thai, or Vietnamese/Southeast Asian.”
WILL said that this program disfavors “students who are not men and do not meet certain racial criteria — if these race- and sex-based barriers do not disqualify such students from the Hospital’s ‘minority’ scholarship entirely.”
Similarly, the Jean Turner Minority Scholarship <a href="https://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/careers/diverse-workforce/medical-imaging-scholarship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stipulates</a> that recipients must be from an “under-represented ethnic group in the field of radiology.” This scholarship can cover up to $5,000 in tuition for a school year and was created “to create opportunities for people of color in the field of radiology.”

Another initiative WILL argues is discriminatory is the Biomedical Research In Medicine and Science (BRIMS) program, designed for “underrepresented” populations to gain summer experience in a lab doing academic research.
“While candidates meeting the racial criteria can immediately qualify for BRIMS, candidates who do not meet the program’s racial criteria must either find some other way than skin color to demonstrate their disadvantage, or lose their eligibility altogether,” WILL wrote in its complaint. 
The hospital’s “Administrative Fellowship” program “strongly encourages applicants from historically underrepresented groups in healthcare — including diverse groups based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity.”
This program allows recipients to gain experience running operations at a children’s hospital and academic center. 
“Treating individuals as racial or gender archetypes to ‘fix’ group differences is beyond the remit of a healthcare entity,” WILL wrote of the programs. “And in any event, such discrimination is illegal: Title VI and the [Affordable Care Act] do not permit federal funding recipients, like the Hospital, to operate their education, training and scholarship opportunities in this manner.”

WILL also highlighted how the hospital keeps a <a href="https://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/about/diversity-equity-inclusion">running total</a> of its workforce “diversity” on its website, showing how many men vs. women are on staff and how many white vs. “POC” (people of color) work at the institution. 
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center did not respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire. 
Federal officials <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/feds-investigating-after-cleveland-clinic-accused-of-treating-white-individuals-differently" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previously opened</a> an investigation into another Ohio hospital, the Cleveland Clinic, after WILL demanded a civil rights probe into the provider’s “Minority Stroke Program” and “Minority Men’s Health Center.&#8221;

While &#8220;Cocaine Bear&#8221; is taking in millions at the box office, the Cincinnati Zoo is taking care of a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/cocaine" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cocaine</a> cat.
The Cincinnati Zoo announced on Tuesday that they are taking care of an African <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/animals" target="_blank" rel="noopener">serval</a> named Amiry. The cat was involved in a traffic stop in late January; it escaped its owner&#8217;s car when police arrested him and ran up a tree, breaking its leg in the process. Animal welfare experts said the cat tested positive for cocaine.
“The serval has been receiving veterinary care in our Animal Health Center since he was brought here,&#8221; the zoo said in a statement to local news outlet <a href="https://www.fox19.com/2023/03/07/cincinnati-zoo-takes-exotic-cat-after-daring-rescue-id-rather-deal-with-tiger/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox 19</a> Tuesday. &#8220;He’s doing well, and the next step will be for our Cat Ambassador Program team to work with him and determine if he’s a good fit to be an ambassador animal. He will likely be behind the scenes for a while.”
Police first discovered the cat during a traffic stop on January 28. While they were arresting the owner, the cat jumped out of the car and ran up a tree. Authorities initially said the cat was a leopard, and the Hamilton County Dog Warden, along with Cincinnati Animal CARE, a local animal shelter, were called in to rescue it.
Cincinnati Animal CARE spokesman Ray Anderson said rescuers weren&#8217;t sure what they were dealing with at first. According to Anderson, shelter expert thought it was an F1 Savannah, a hybrid breed of cat that comes from breeding a domestic house cat and a serval. The rescuers then turned the serval over to an exotic big cat expert, who reportedly told shelter employees, “’I’d rather deal with a tiger.’” A toxicology test informed them why: the cat tested positive for cocaine in its system.
“It did come back positive for cocaine,” Anderson said. “Now, we can’t say how the animal got the cocaine in the system. I don’t know if it was environmental or experimental.”
“Hindsight being 20/20, it probably would have involved a whole lot more people,&#8221; Anderson added.
Unfortunately, the serval broke its leg during the rescue. “In the process of getting the cat out of the tree&#8230; obviously, the cat didn’t want to get out of the tree&#8230; and our officers were working really hard to make sure they didn’t lose the cat in the process&#8230; Yeah, the leg was broken in the process,” Anderson recounted.
The cat was then transferred to the Cincinnati Zoo for further medical care. The zoo told <a href="https://www.wlwt.com/article/wild-african-serval-cat-captured-in-oakley-tests-positive-for-cocaine-transferred-to-cincinnati-zoo/43239515" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WLWT</a> that it will place Amiry in its Cat Ambassador Program soon at the zoo to work with trainers. He will not be visible to the public for a while, but if he works well with the trainers, the zoo plans to keep him.

Servals are native to sub-Saharan Africa. They can grow between 21 and 24 inches tall, and weigh 20-40 lbs. They can jump as high as 7 feet in the air, and climb trees as high as 30 feet.
The whole incident comes while the movie &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-movie-about-a-murderous-bear-jacked-up-on-cocaine-set-to-sweep-the-academy-awards" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cocaine Bear</a>&#8221; is hitting theaters around the country. The film came out on February 24, a month after the cat was first rescued. The film is very loosely based on the story of a 175-lb. black bear that died after ingesting cocaine dropped out of a plane in a duffel bag by notorious drug dealer Andrew Thornton. In the film, however, the bear doesn&#8217;t simply die, but goes on a cocaine-fueled rampage before dying.

Utilities in Cincinnati and Northern <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kentucky" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kentucky</a> shut Ohio River water intake valves early Sunday morning over concerns about contamination by hazardous materials from a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ohio-train-disaster" target="_blank" rel="noopener">train that derailed</a> in East Palestine, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ohio" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ohio</a>.
The two utilities, Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) and Northern Kentucky Water District (NKWD), said they are taking precautions as testing found at least low levels of chemicals from the toxic spill in some places at intakes along the waterway amid reports of <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/east-palestine-ohio-train-derailment-dead-fish-vinyl-chloride-hazardous-materials-affecting-pets-wildlife/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fish dying en masse</a> in local waterways and East Palestine residents reporting ailments such as <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/02/16/ohio-train-derailment-response-toxic-contamination/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">headaches and rashes</a>.
After the Norfolk Southern freight train derailment on February 3, crews executed what authorities said was a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/j-d-vance-calls-for-answers-after-ohio-train-derailment-notes-alarming-reports-he-received" target="_blank" rel="noopener">controlled burn of hazardous chemicals</a> from cars that were in danger of exploding, prompting temporary evacuations and a large plume of smoke over the small town on the Pennsylvania border.
&#8220;Emergency responders were able to quickly respond and contain most of the chemicals,&#8221; NKWD <a href="https://v5z61e.a2cdn1.secureserver.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Press-Release-East-Palestine-OH-Train-Derailment-Intake-Closed_02-19-23.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said in a press release</a>. NKWD said one of the chemicals, butyl acrylate, &#8220;was detected at low levels in the Ohio River far upstream of our water supply intakes.&#8221;
Butyl acrylate &#8220;is a clear liquid with a sweet odor used in arts and crafts, adhesives, flooring, sinks, bathtubs, to name just a few of the uses of the chemical,&#8221; NKWD said.
<a href="https://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/water/news/ohio-river-test-results-show-no-contaminants/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GCWW said</a> low levels of butyl acrylate were believed to have &#8220;seeped&#8221; into the Ohio River through a small creek about 300 miles north of Cincinnati.

NKWD and GCWW, each of which reportedly serve <a href="https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/local/2023/02/19/local-ohio-river-supply-shut-after-east-palestine-trail-derailment/69920711007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hundreds of thousands of customers</a>, said they will continue testing in coordination with the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission and assured the public they have treatment processes in place. The utilities said they will rely on reserves until regulators are certain water from the Ohio River is safe.

After the fire went out on February 8, the Environment Protection Agency <a href="https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/statement-regional-administrator-debra-shore-east-palestine-train-derailment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said on Tuesday its air monitoring</a> had &#8220;not detected any levels of health concern in the community that are attributed to the train derailment.&#8221;
Ohio Republican Governor Mike DeWine&#8217;s office <a href="https://governor.ohio.gov/media/news-and-media/East-Palestine-Update-2-17-23-2-15-pm-02172023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said Friday</a> testing results from East Palestine’s municipal water source determined that municipal drinking water is safe to drink, but urged locals who get their water from private wells to use bottled water until their water is tested.

The NFL announced Tuesday that the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals game had been postponed indefinitely after Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during a game on Monday night.

But an individual present at the stadium took videos of the team running plays, then posted them to Twitter.
NFL analyst and podcaster <a href="https://twitter.com/BrettKollmann/status/1575259441359822849?s=20&amp;t=f0MNS4VZWCqDp2QmerOYgw">Brett Kollmann</a> called out the individual Wednesday on Twitter, noting that league security officials are serious about preventing unauthorized recording. &#8220;Looks like someone was recording the entire Dolphins walk through and posting it to Twitter,&#8221; Kollmann wrote. &#8220;NFL security is going to be massively p***ed about this. They take this stuff seriously when a club is on the road.&#8221;

Many users on Twitter put the blame on the Dolphins for not taking better security precautions. Nippert Stadium is located in the center of the University of Cincinnati campus; students often have to walk through the stadium itself to get to class, and several campus buildings have full views of the field. Indeed, a Snapchat post shared by the Barstool Cincinnati account showed a group of students standing on a walkway, <a href="https://twitter.com/UCBarstool/status/1575234899770241024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">watching</a> the Dolphins practice.

Former professional baseball player and manager Pete Rose, 81, on Sunday dismissed a question from a reporter about alleged sexual misconduct.
Rose, Major League Baseball&#8217;s all-time hits leader, was accused in 2017 of having a sexual relationship with a minor during the 1970s.

The edict followed an MLB warning this week that it would begin enforcing a rule against hand, finger and wrist attachments. The rule is designed to stop pitchers from having foreign substances on their hands that they can then put on the ball to alter the way it spins as it crosses home plate.
Rule 6.02(c)(7) of the MLB rulebook states that pitchers &#8220;may not attach anything to either hand, any finger or either wrist.&#8221; Umpires have discretion to decide if such an attachment can be considered a foreign substance, &#8220;but in no case may the pitcher be allowed to pitch with such attachment to his hand, finger or wrist.&#8221;
The rule has long been in place, but umpires had not been known to enforce it. Reds manager David Bell said a memo was issued to teams earlier this week that the rule would soon begin to be enforced.
“I actually did get a memo about it,” Bell said. “I knew I had. I hadn&#8217;t read it super close, so as soon as Graham came off the field, we went and double-checked and there is a rule. They just reminded us recently. I don&#8217;t know if it was a new one or a reminder.”
Ashcraft complied and promptly got shelled, giving up eight hits and six as the Reds lost by a score of 7-3.
Ashcraft, a 24-year-old rookie, is having a strong season with a 3-1 record and an earned run average of 3.51 since being called up from the minor leagues on May 20.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tommy Pham was suspended for three games after slapping San Francisco Giants outfielder Joc Pederson before their teams played Friday. Pham was apparently still smarting over a dispute from their fantasy football league, <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/team/_/name/sf/san-francisco-giants">according to ESPN</a>.
“I slapped Joc,&#8221; Pham said later. &#8220;He said some sh&#8211; I don’t condone. I had to address it.”
Pederson was caught off-guard by the pre-game attack.
&#8220;It was a surprise,&#8221; Pederson said. &#8220;There was no real argument. He kind of came up and said, like, ‘I don&#8217;t know if you remember from last year,’ and I was like, ‘Fantasy football?’ He was like, ‘Yeah.&#8221;

Pham was benched for the game, which the Reds won, 5-1, and Major League Baseball announced the suspension on Saturday.
After the game, Pederson said he was accused of cheating in the fantasy football league for putting San Francisco 49ers running back Jeff Wilson on injured reserve and replacing him with a free agent. Pederson insisted the move was legal because the player he put on IR had been ruled out for that week.
&#8220;I sent a screenshot of the rules, how it says that if a player&#8217;s ruled out, you&#8217;re allowed to put him on the IR and that&#8217;s all I was doing,&#8221; Pederson said. &#8220;He literally did the same thing. That was basically all of it.&#8221;
Pederson speculated that Pham may have had Wilson in another league and gotten mixed up.
&#8220;Maybe that was a confusion,&#8221; he said. &#8220;In the ESPN league we were in, he was listed as out. It feels very similar to what I did. That was basically all of it. There&#8217;s not much more to it.&#8221;
Pederson said he was caught off-guard by Pham’s attack, but isn’t looking to get even.
&#8220;Violence isn&#8217;t the answer. It&#8217;s over as far as I&#8217;m concerned,&#8221; Pederson said. &#8220;I won&#8217;t talk to him. I don&#8217;t think he wants to talk to me, I don&#8217;t know. It was a weird interaction.&#8221;
Pham is getting a reputation as a hothead. In April, he challenged San Diego’s hulking first baseman Luke Voit to a fight after Voit slid hard into Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson.
&#8220;If Luke wants to settle it, I get down really well,&#8221; Pham said. &#8220;Anything. Muay Thai, whatever. Like I said, I&#8217;ve got an owner here who will let me use his facility.&#8221;
Giants Manager <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/in-wake-of-uvalde-shooting-san-francisco-giants-manager-boycotting-national-anthem-until-he-feels-better-about-direction-of-america">Gabe Kapler</a>, who recently made news by saying he won&#8217;t come out of the dugout for the National Anthem to protest gun violence, declined to comment on the dust-up.
&#8220;Major League Baseball is investigating it, and until that&#8217;s complete, I&#8217;m probably not going to say much on it,&#8221; Kapler said.

The National Football League is in a can&#8217;t-lose situation. 
As Super Bowl Sunday has arrived, we’re finally past the media blitz that occurs during the week leading up, and we can focus on the game itself. And for the NFL, the 56th Super Bowl couldn’t be a more ideal situation. 
Let’s start with the location. 
In 2016, Rams owner Stan Kroenke abandoned the city of St. Louis for the West Coast, ending the Rams 20 year run in city. The country’s second largest media market had been without an NFL team from 1995-2015, a massive swing and a miss from the most popular professional sports league in the country. 
Now? The Rams are in their second Super Bowl in four years, and will be playing in their spanking-new SoFi Stadium. For the past two weeks, all of the NFL has descended upon the City of Angels, putting the Rams tenure in St. Louis firmly in the rearview mirror. Celebrities galore will be attending Super Bowl LVI, and even the halftime show — highlighted by Snoop Dogg himself — is garnering buzz. The NFL wins even before the opening kickoff. 
And then, there’s the quarterbacks. 
Whether the Rams or the Bengals take home the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday, the NFL will have headlines for weeks to come as an offseason filled with Aaron Rodgers speculation awaits. 
In Matthew Stafford, the NFL has the story of the uber talented, former number one overall draft pick quarterback, finally playing for a winner after over a decade of toiling away on a perennial loser in Detroit. In 12 seasons as a Lion, Stafford led Detroit to just three playoff appearances, going 0-3 in postseason play. Stafford was forced to play for an organization that has never been able to figure it out, bungling the years of Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson so badly that Johnson chose to retire after just nine seasons rather than continue being a Lion. 
And then, in the blink of an eye — and after a couple of cocktails in Cabo — Stafford finally landed in a place filled with offensive weapons, and in the perfect market for a Hollywood story.
In January 2021, the Rams traded quarterback Jarred Goff and three draft picks — including two first-rounders — for Stafford, going all-in on a Super Bowl or bust season. There were many who questioned whether the Rams were mortgaging their future — LA doesn&#8217;t own a first-round pick until 2024 — was worth it in their attempt to bring the city of Los Angeles its first Super Bowl since the Raiders climbed the mountain in 1983. 
A championship will silence the doubters, and give the NFL media storylines for days. 
And then there’s Joe Burrow. 
“Cool” Joe storylines essentially write themselves. The next Joe Namath, the quarterback to beat over the next decade, the first overall pick who finally was able to bring Cincinnati their elusive Super Bowl. 
Burrow dresses like a rockstar, and plays like one the field. No one expected Cincinnati to be in position to win Super Bowl LVI, and it’s all due to the Heisman trophy and national championship winner. 
Against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional Playoffs, Burrow was sacked nine times. I’ll say that again. Burrow was sacked nine times, and won. Against Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game, the Bengals came back from an 18-point first half deficit — tying the largest comeback in Championship Game history — to beat superman Patrick Mahomes. 
His quotes are a journalist&#8217;s dream, not to mention his tradition of lighting up a stogie after a big win makes for one heck of a photo.  
If Cincinnati finds a way to win in another upset, it will be the rags-to-riches story reporters all over the world dream of. The spirited debate of “best young quarterback in the AFC” will rage throughout the offseason. 
All of this to say, the NFL should be happy as clams with how the upcoming Super Bowl matchup has turned out. No matter which way the game turns, the league has already won.

Welcome to the party, Cincinnati. 
Tuesday night, the College Football Playoff committee released their latest rankings, and there has been some serious movement within the top four.
The College Football Playoff has been in existence since the 2014 season, and in the eight years since its inception, no team outside of the Power 5 conferences has found a way into the top four. We’ve had close calls, but Cincinnati&#8217;s argument is strong, beating a top-10 team on the road in Notre Dame and coming in sixth in the first release of the rankings. 
The Bearcats are now invited to the dance, at least for now, coming in at No. 4 following their impressive win over SMU and Oregon’s loss to Utah.
&#8220;I think it&#8217;s awesome, for our entire team, our community, our campus. But we stress to the guys that we have a ways to go,&#8221; Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell <a href="https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32701446/unbeaten-cincinnati-joins-georgia-ohio-state-alabama-cfp-coveted-top-four-oregon-slips">said</a> on ESPN&#8217;s rankings release show. &#8220;But the excitement about it is well deserved for a group that&#8217;s fought hard all year.&#8221;
Georgia is once again the No. 1 team in the land, with a game against in-state rival Georgia Tech on Saturday before their SEC Championship Game matchup against Alabama. 
The biggest move comes from Ohio State, jumping over Alabama for the No. 2 spot following an absolute shellacking of No. 7 Michigan State. The Buckeyes jumped all over Sparty early, taking a 49-0 lead into halftime. Alabama falls a spot to No. 3 following a tough win over a very good Arkansas team. 
“Two great teams, both Ohio State and Alabama. Both of them have Heisman Trophy candidates at quarterback. This past week, though, the dominating win over Michigan State certainly got the committee’s attention,&#8221; committee chairman Gary Barta <a href="https://247sports.com/Article/College-Football-Playoff-rankings-Chair-Gary-Barta-explains-decision-to-put-Ohio-State-over-Alabama-176118583/">said</a>. &#8220;The offense of Ohio State, just total domination, and the defense is playing much better. And they’ve been playing better week after week. They beat Penn State, they beat Purdue.&#8221; 
&#8220;Alabama’s still a great football team. They have a wonderful win against Ole Miss. The last few weeks, just not showing as much domination on defense. So two great teams, but when the vote came down, Ohio State came ahead of Alabama.”
Alabama goes on the road to take on Auburn in the Iron Bowl on Saturday. Auburn will be without quarterback Bo Nix, out for the season following ankle surgery. Ohio State faces its biggest test of the year Saturday, traveling to The Big House to play No. 5 Michigan, with the winner heading to the Big Ten championship game and the loser more than likely being knocked out of the playoff race. No two-loss team has ever made the CFP. 
“We work it year-round,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2021/11/24/ohio-state-michigan-football-rivalry-ryan-day/8745467002/">said</a> when asked about the rivalry. “Every day we work it. We work it in the offseason. We work it on Fridays in the weight room. We have our sessions in the preseason and spring. We have meetings about it.
“We just constantly talk about it. And we talk about it in recruiting. The No. 1 goal here at Ohio State is to beat the Team Up North, period.”
Notre Dame comes in at six, needing help if they&#8217;re to be in the final four at the end of the year. 
&#8220;Notre Dame has been building momentum all year,&#8221; Barta said. &#8220;They are a terrific team, and they are highly thought of by the committee.&#8221;
Oklahoma State (7), Baylor (8), Ole Miss (9), and Oklahoma round out the top-10. OSU and Oklahoma play in their “Bedlam Series” Saturday in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Ohio State Jumps Alabama, Cincinnati Into CFP Top Four

For the sixth consecutive week, Georgia is the unanimous number one team in the country in The Associated Press top-25 rankings. 
The Bulldogs received all 62 first-place votes after beating a decent Tennessee Vols team on the road 41-17. The 17 points are the most given up by the Georgia defense on the season, highlighting just how dominant they have been. 
“To give up the first drive, and then to come back and really do a good job the rest of the second half .. and remember guys, they have four downs the entire second half,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart <a href="https://www.dawgnation.com/football/georgia-football-uga-stetson-bennett-jt-daniels-bulldogs/YH5HJPQJGVDSDCLLDBJ7IXASEI/">said</a>.
“When you have four downs, it’s different. You’re not worried about third down; third down’s second down, then you’ve got fourth down to go for it because you need touchdowns. Yeah, I’m proud of the way our guys played defense.”
Alabama has been creeping closer to the No. 2 ranking over the past several weeks and has finally overtaken the Bearcats after a 59-3 win over New Mexico State. But the jump is more about Cincinnati than Alabama, after the Bearcats failed to dominate a sub-.500 South Florida team in a 45-28 win. 
While the Bearcats are undefeated, they’ve failed to win in the fashion they need to over the past few weeks in order to make a run to the CFP. 
The big move in the AP poll is Oklahoma, which drops from No. 4 to No. 12 after losing for the first time in a 27-14 loss to No. 13 Baylor. 
&#8220;Disappointing, no other way to put it,&#8221; Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley <a href="https://www.espn.com/college-football/recap?gameId=401287938">said</a>. &#8220;Still a whole lot left for this football team. That&#8217;s the advantage of winning your first nine games, is you do set yourself up to be able to overcome something like this. &#8230; We&#8217;ll bounce back like we always do and like we fully expect to.&#8221;
Oregon (4), Ohio State (5), Notre Dame (6), Michigan State (7), Michigan (8), and Oklahoma State (9) all move up a spot, with Ole Miss rounding out the top-10. 
Baylor has the largest jump in the poll, moving up seven spots to No. 11 following their biggest win of the season. 
No. 21 Arkansas re-enters the top-25 after beating LSU, and No. 23 San Diego State and No. 24 Utah are back in the top-25 after wins. 
UTSA remained unbeaten after beating Southern Miss 27-17.
Auburn, Penn State, and Coastal Carolina are all out of the poll following losses on Saturday. It&#8217;s the first time out of the poll for both Penn State and Coastal Carolina.
