Podcaster Chuck Todd said Monday he plans to stop attending events featuring President Donald Trump because he no longer feels safe doing so.
Todd, a longtime Trump critic and former host of NBC&#8217;s &#8220;Meet the Press,&#8221; argued that being near the president puts people at risk.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not going to any more events where Trump&#8217;s at them. I don&#8217;t feel safe wherever Donald Trump is, chaos follows him,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/ChrisCillizza/status/2048798698176446756?s=20">Todd said during a podcast with Chris Cillizza.</a> &#8220;If you decide to go into his orbit, you have become less safe. He does not care about your safety. He&#8217;s not going to protect you if you go into his orbit, because he&#8217;s always going to protect himself first.&#8221;

His comments come after federal prosecutors charged Cole Tomas Allen with attempting to assassinate the president at the White House Correspondents&#8217; Dinner, marking the third attempt on Trump&#8217;s life in recent years.
On the podcast, Todd also accused Trump of contributing to a climate of hostility.
&#8220;The guy doesn&#8217;t care when people commit violence in his name. He only cares when the violence is committed against him, and he does not see that he is a contributor to the atmospherics of the world we&#8217;re living in,&#8221; Todd said.
Todd&#8217;s comments drew pushback from media figures and commentators.
Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Brent Scher said Todd&#8217;s comments reflected a &#8220;recognition from somebody on the Left of kind of what the vitriol against Donald Trump from the Left has created.&#8221;

Former &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; anchor Chuck Todd called on everyone to lower the temperature and tone down their political rhetoric — just moments before he himself amped up the rhetoric attacking Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Todd&#8217;s comments came just days after a gunman — using apps promoted by Democrats and media outlets that track the movements of ICE agents in real time — opened fire on an ICE facility in Texas.
On his podcast — &#8220;The Chuck Toddcast&#8221; — Todd first remarked on the increasing political violence — and begged Americans to tone things down.

Just a short time later, however, Todd himself was turning up the temperature on ICE agents.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not going to sit here and say ICE is bringing this upon themselves — but why are we masking the agents when they come after people?&#8221; he asked, leaving out the fact that ICE agents and their families have been doxxed and threatened — and that ICE officials have told them to wear masks in order to protect themselves from retaliatory action. &#8220;This is America. This is not jackbooted thugs coming in at the — you know, that is not what America is supposed to be.&#8221;
&#8220;When you sort of govern in a nihilistic way, you&#8217;re going to end up creating a lot of nihilists. And that&#8217;s a very scary proposition for those of us that would like to live in free, normal America,&#8221; he added.
Shortly after the ICE facility shooting, Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/go-straight-to-hell-jd-lights-up-nbc-for-retracted-anti-ice-story-one-day-before-attack">JD Vance</a> called out media personalities for driving the anti-ICE rhetoric.
&#8220;You don’t have to agree with my immigration policies. You don’t have to agree with Donald Trump’s immigration policies,&#8221; Vance said at the time. &#8220;But your political rhetoric encourages violence against our law enforcement, you can go straight to hell, and you have no place in the political conversation of the United States of America.&#8221;

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) took to X to complain about the redistricting fight currently embroiling the Texas State House, claiming that Texas Republicans were attempting to use a newly redrawn map to &#8220;rig&#8221; the 2026 midterm election.
As the Massachusetts-based far-left Squad member complained about what she said was a &#8220;cowardly, undemocratic power grab,&#8221; critics quickly pointed out that her own district is the result of an obviously gerrymandered map created by the Democrats who have controlled her state&#8217;s legislature for more than two decades.

A number of Texas Democrats <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-dems-cant-win-redistricting-fight-so-they-bravely-turn-tail-and-flee-the-state">broke quorum</a> several days earlier, bringing the legislative special session to a halt by fleeing to Illinois because they did not have the votes to stop the redistricting plan by legitimate means. In their absence, both Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) and Attorney General Ken Paxton (R-TX) have threatened to take legal action, saying that they will petition a judge to declare the seats vacant if the AWOL Democrats do not return to finish the special session by Friday.
Texas Democrats attempted a similar stunt in 2021 as an effort to block certain provisions of a voting rights bill, and Abbott threatened at the time to withhold their pay.

Even former NBC anchor Chuck Todd recognized the irony in play when Texas Democrats, unable to win their state legislature&#8217;s redistricting fight by legitimate means, fled to the highly gerrymandered state of Illinois for refuge when they broke quorum in protest.
Todd, the longtime host of NBC&#8217;s &#8220;Meet the Press,&#8221; made the comments during an appearance on &#8220;CNN News Central&#8221; after some 51 Texas legislators <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-dems-cant-win-redistricting-fight-so-they-bravely-turn-tail-and-flee-the-state">fled to Chicago</a> to stop the progress of a Republican-driven redistricting plan — a plan they complain is &#8220;gerrymandered&#8221; and could tip as many as five congressional seats toward the GOP.

&#8220;It seems as if the strategy is: bring more attention to this, make everybody uncomfortable. Right? The more painful you make the process in Texas, the more it’s hard to replicate. Maybe there isn’t — they may be — their own colleagues aren’t as interested in this. Congressional Republicans that serve in Texas, whose districts are actually going to get impacted negatively, also secretly are kind of hoping this goes away, too. And I think they think the longer — the more painful they can make this in doing it — maybe there’s a way to shut this down,&#8221; Todd said of the redistricting process.
But then he pivoted to address the fact that the Democrats had fled to Illinois — in part because Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker had expressed solidarity with them in the fight against the new maps — noting that when it comes to gerrymandering, Illinois is home of the real professionals.
&#8220;The part that I think is sort of bad — I think it’s a bad look for a party that claims to be always trying to protect the democracy — is to hole up in a state that gerrymanders: the state of Illinois. I mean, one of the worst … Texas, Florida, Illinois, and Maryland — those are your four giant gerrymandered states. And if you’re trying to make a point on gerrymandering, I don’t think I’d be going to the state of Illinois as a place to hide,&#8221; he explained.
Illinois redrew district maps in 2021 in a successful effort to wrest control of two Republican seats — one of them belonging at the time to Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/adam-kinzinger-suggests-he-risked-his-seat-to-save-democracy-democrat-gerrymandering-erased-his-district">Adam Kinzinger</a> (R-IL) — ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

Longtime &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; host Chuck Todd called out media outlets for continuing to book former President Joe Biden&#8217;s embattled son Hunter Biden, saying that those who chose to give him a platform were choosing to &#8220;book spectacle&#8221; over substance.
Todd spoke up on his eponymous podcast — &#8220;The Chuck Todd-Cast&#8221; — after Hunter Biden gave a slew of interviews that essentially boiled down to expletive-laden attacks on anyone who either failed to support his dad all the way to the end or who had supported President Donald Trump in any way. Todd&#8217;s main objection to the interviews appeared to be that keeping the younger Biden on camera was not good for anyone — especially the Democratic Party.

Anything he says is in defense of his father. &#8220;I have a real problem with the folks that are booking him. If you’ve chosen to book Hunter Biden, you’ve chose to book spectacle. You’re not interested in — and the two interviews that have gone viral were both designed to get attention, not to surface new facts, not to give you a better understanding of what may have happened. It was just, let’s give him a platform to settle some scores that maybe he wants to settle,” Todd continued.
His overall assessment was simple: &#8220;I don’t think this does Hunter Biden any good. I don’t think this does Joe Biden any good, it certainly doesn’t do the Democratic Party any good. That’s why it’s surprising to see the former DNC chair, start a podcast and decide that the best way to market it is Hunter Biden.&#8221;
In his recent interviews, Hunter Biden lashed out at actor George Clooney for writing the op-ed that kick-started a wave of Democrat calls for President Joe Biden to bow out of the 2024 presidential race. Hunter also called out the Democratic Party, scolding them for folding under the pressure rather than having his dad&#8217;s back when it mattered.

In a recent Netflix documentary about Vietnam, Dan Rather makes a rather ironic observation considering the source as well as the shameful state of the mainstream media of which he was a part. “A free and independent, truly independent, media is the red beating heart of freedom and democracy.”
The messenger, however, does not necessarily negate the message. But what happens when the watchdogs of the State act as their lapdogs because their political and social interests are so aligned as to be indistinguishable?
Anyone with functioning senses could tell that from the beginning of his 2020 campaign, Joe Biden was not fully in command of his mental faculties. And it only got worse. And yet, when he announced his plans to run for a second term, those in the legacy media were more than willing to do their parts to ensure this incapacitated man should be the commander-in-chief of our armed forces and keeper of the nuclear codes for another four years.
That was until it all finally blew up on the debate stage in June 2024.

With Biden’s decay “settled science”, the media are now claiming in faux self-reflection that they “missed the story.” What was there to miss? It would be easier to “miss” a full solar eclipse. I even recall driving in my car with my daughter who heard one of Biden’s slurring, disjointed ramblings on an otherwise very Biden-friendly NPR broadcast. She observed matter-of-factly, “He sounds like Grandpa.” (Her grandfather was sadly suffering from severe cognitive decline as well as Parkinson’s by then.)
And yet, those who worked with Biden on a daily basis claimed that “behind the scenes” this bedazzled, vacuous man was, in reality, a whirlwind who was so energetic and on top of things it was an effort just to keep up with him. And the media willingly went along with the lies to hide that whoever was running the White House, it was not Joe Biden. And now they are paying the price in a collapse in confidence. According to Gallup, only 7% of respondents trust the media “a great deal” and just 24% a “fair amount.”
As pathetic as their attempts at gaslighting the public about their chosen president were at the time, what is even more pitiful now is their desperate attempt to cover up their own coverups, or gaslight us again…this time about themselves.

Consider Chuck Todd, former host of NBC’s Meet The Press, actually trying to pass the buck.
“This is not a media failure,” he insists. “This is a failure of the Democratic Party. And…the virtue signaling that some people have done to try to say that the media missed this story, they didn’t miss this story.” His defensive rant concludes: “This is an attempt by some to virtue signal, and it’s this horrible sort of pitting different news organizations against each other, when ultimately, the people at fault are Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Jill Biden, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, every elected member of Congress!”
What is fascinating about Todd’s deflecting the blame is not just the shameless denial on display, but more importantly, what it reveals about the ethos of the mainstream media today. He claims this was a “failure of the Democratic Party.” In other words, what Todd is saying here is that the Democrats are to blame because the narrative they fed him, to then feed to us, was bogus. But it is not the job of the press to blindly accept and pass on what they are told by those in power. It is the media’s job to challenge the State narrative by investigating the truth outside the White House Press Secretary’s prepared remarks. Especially when the lies were so blatant regarding the mental decline of the President of the United States.
In his effort to defend the media, Todd has, in fact, indicted it for the crime of being nothing more than a reliable conduit for State propaganda. He is right in that the legacy media did not “miss” this story. They were fully aware of Biden’s crumbling brain. (Unless they are the worst reporters since Ron Burgundy). They just deliberately chose to ignore, downplay, bury and gaslight it. The media, which has at least ten times the number of Democrats as Republicans in their ranks, ran cover for their favored party and benefactors in DC. 

Todd’s unconvincing line of defense is not even as shameful as some media pundits who are today trying to cash in on the very scandal in which they were themselves active participants. CNN’s Jake Tapper, who now has the nerve to co-author a book about the Biden mental health cover-up, even though for years he carried tanker loads of water for this same man, berated Laura Trump in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8o87LhyysU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2020</a> for questioning Biden’s cognitive abilities:

Laura Trump: First and foremost, I had no idea that Joe Biden ever suffered from a stutter. I think what we see on stage with Joe Biden, Jake, is very clearly a cognitive decline. That’s what I’m referring to. It makes me uncomfortable—
Jake Tapper: (with a dismissive smirk speaking over Trump): You have no, absolutely, you have no idea. It’s so amazing to me that, that…A cognitive decline?
Laura Trump: When you’re trying to tell me what I was suggesting was a stutter—
Jake Tapper: I think you were mocking his stutter. And I think you have absolutely no standing to diagnose somebody’s cognitive decline. I would think somebody in the Trump family would be more sensitive. People who do not have medical licenses diagnosing politicians from afar.</blockquote>

Tapper’s 2020 line of questioning also reveals another tactic the media used to aggressively run cover for the Biden brain melt. That was to deploy the “you’re not a neurologist” argument from authority fallacy. Because, you see, those knowledgeable in the field were quite satisfied with Biden’s mental acuity and dismissive of his advanced years.
According to The Hill, for example, Biden was, in fact, a “superager.” As late as January 2024 they wrote, “He has a family history of dementia-free longevity and there was no evidence of cognitive decline in his personal medical records…his medical records <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Health-Summary-2.16.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> in his years since taking office so far indicate no significant change in physical or mental health status has occurred.”
In 2020, Forbes even saw Biden’s “stutter” as a beacon of hope for others with this affliction…and that’s all it was. “President or not, it is Joe Biden’s resilience that positions him as a hope for young Americans with disabilities.”
Okay. I’m not a doctor or a shrink. But like many Americans, including I have no doubt more than a few reading this, I have sadly seen what cognitive decline of an elderly loved one looks like up close and personal. Also, my father, who was exceptionally bright, had an actual stutter (for years I thought the state next to us was pronounced “I…I…Indiana”). So I know the difference between the two, thank you very much.
What the Democrat Party and mainstream/legacy media (but I repeat myself) tried to pull on the American people is nothing short of disgraceful. It took an old man’s very pathetic mental collapse in front of the world for the media to finally accept that the game was up. Up until the debate, for four years, day after day, week after week the press that Dan Rather calls democracy’s “red beating heart” never seriously challenged those DNC operatives who went before the cameras and declared him to be the “best Joe Biden ever” who was “sharp as a tack.” All to protect the interests of their own party, and thus their power
The media’s role in the Biden scandal reveals the true level of contempt with which the overly-educated, overly-credentialed, cloistered coastal elites who are now the prime drivers in the DNC-Media Complex hold the average American. That they thought they could literally go before us and tell us not to believe our own lyin’ eyes is both an expression of astounding intellectual hubris as well as a demonstration of how insular they have become.
And they paid for this hubris at the polls in November. Despite their best efforts at using deception to protect their political party’s hold on power, the red-capped, flannel-wearing, beer-swilling, fast-food eating, knuckle-dragging Joe Punchclock rubes saw through the psyop. As such, their people are now in charge of the White House, the Senate, the House, hold a 6-3 majority in the Supreme Court and control the majority of governors mansions and state legislatures, while the Democrat Party polls in the mid-twenty percent and trust in their legacy media bagmen is at an all-time low. And that is no lie.

NBC News chief political analyst and former moderator of “Meet The Press” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chuck-todd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chuck Todd</a> has announced that he’s leaving the network after nearly two decades.
&#8220;Today is my last day… at NBC,&#8221; Todd told his audience on Friday on his “Chuck Toddcast” <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/chuck-todd-out-nbc-news?intcmp=tw_fnc">podcast</a>. “I am leaving a bit earlier than we had all originally planned, but there is a reason for it.”
“I’m pretty excited by a few new projects that are on the cusp,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/chuck-todd-out-nbc-news" target="_blank" rel="noopener">added,</a> but gave no details. &#8220;The podcast is coming with me, and it’s not going away.&#8221;
The former NBC News host said there would be a “little hiatus” for his podcast, until he finds a new home for it.

Todd sent a letter to his colleagues before his announcement on the podcast that his last day at NBC News was Friday, the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/nbc-todd-exit-trump-welker-746b58bbd6b7eb03f6be0cbeabf84004">Associated Press</a> reported.
&#8220;The reason why I am ready to move, I think the media has a lot of work to do to win back the trust and I think, frankly, national media isn’t the place that’s going to be able to do it,&#8221; Todd said.
“People trust local media more than they trust national media. And I’m convinced the best place to start is from the bottom up,” he added. “National media can’t win trust back without having a robust partner locally, and trying to game algorithms is no way to inform and report.”
“People are craving community and that’s something national media or the major social media companies can’t do as well as local media,” Todd continued, noting that reporting is how you win back support. “If you do this job seeking popularity, or to simply be an activist, you are doing this job incorrectly.”
In a statement to <a href="https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/chuck-todd-exit-nbc-news-1236273148/">Variety</a> about Todd’s departure, NBC News said “We’re grateful for Chuck’s many contributions to our political coverage during his nearly two-decade career at NBC News and for his deep commitment to ‘Meet the Press’ and its enduring legacy. We wish him all the best in his next endeavors.”
Todd joined the network in 2007 as a political director and took over as moderator of “Meet the Press” from 2014-2023 from David Gregory, who was picked to run the popular show following the sudden death in June 2008 of the hugely successful “MTP” moderator Tim Russert. The current &#8220;MTP&#8221; moderator is Kristen Welker.

NBC News chief political analyst <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nbcs-chuck-todd-baffled-team-biden-pushed-for-debate-rules-that-make-trump-seem-more-presidential" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chuck Todd</a> tore into President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> and first lady <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jill-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jill Biden</a> after the president issued a pardon on Sunday to their son, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hunter-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hunter Biden</a>, who was facing possible prison time over gun and tax crimes.
In a <a href="https://chriscillizza.substack.com/p/why-joe-biden-needs-therapy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discussion</a> with journalist Chris Cillizza, Todd said he knew &#8220;100%&#8221; the pardon was going to happen and insisted President Biden &#8220;needs therapy&#8221; because he has &#8220;not processed&#8221; the death of his older son, former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, who passed away of brain cancer at the age of 46 in 2015.
President Biden has an &#8220;issue&#8221; with Hunter Biden in which he blames himself for Hunter Biden&#8217;s struggles over the years, including drug addiction, &#8220;second-guesses everything&#8221; with raising Hunter compared to how he raised Beau, Todd contended.
Todd also reportedly said he believed that Biden was never going to stand for the possible &#8220;humiliation&#8221; that President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> would be the one to pardon Hunter Biden.

The conversation then turned to the summer, when a jury in Delaware convicted Hunter Biden on three felony counts of lying on paperwork for a revolver and owning the firearm while being a drug addict in 2018. Todd mentioned Beau Biden&#8217;s widow, Hallie Biden. After Beau&#8217;s death, she started a romantic relationship with Hunter. Her public disposal of Hunter&#8217;s gun <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/06/02/hunter-biden-beau-widow-gun-trial/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">led to</a> the firearm case against him.

&#8220;I followed the Hunter Biden trial very closely. I read every transcript, all the testimony, because all that was made public. &#8230; You want to get angry? Just as somebody in — just all these mixed emotions,&#8221; Todd said.
&#8220;You read the Hallie Biden transcript, and that’s Beau’s widow. And essentially, [Hunter] turned her into a crack addict. And this was all happening in 2017 and 2018. And Joe and Jill Biden were so concerned about their family that they decided to run for president,&#8221; Todd continued. &#8220;When you talk about the word selfish &#8230; their decision to run for president put the entire Democratic Party and the United States of America in the position it&#8217;s in now.&#8221;
Cillizza, a former CNN editor at large who now has a <a href="https://chriscillizza.substack.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">newsletter</a> called &#8220;So What?&#8221; on Substack, posted a clip of the discussion to X on Monday. Some of those who commented on the post noted how Todd appeared to be more defensive of the Bidens in the past.
Washington Free Beacon investigative reporter Chuck Ross <a href="https://x.com/ChuckRossDC/status/1863790931331162405" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pointed out</a> an <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meet-press-january-15-2023-n1302361" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview with</a> Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) on NBC&#8217;s &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; early last year in which Todd <a href="https://x.com/ChuckRossDC/status/1863790931331162405" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;went to the mat&#8221;</a> for Hunter Biden when the first son was under investigation but had not yet been charged with any crimes.
&#8220;Senator, do you have a crime that you think Hunter Biden committed because I&#8217;ve yet to see anybody explain. It is not a crime to make money off of your last name,&#8221; Todd said at one point. At another, he said, &#8220;Look, you can go back on your partisan cable cocoon and talk about media bias all you want. I understand it&#8217;s part of your identity.&#8221;

NBC News&#8217; chief political analyst Chuck Todd <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-vance-divide-conquer-campaign-trail-politics-desk-rcna168700" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned</a> that Vice President Kamala Harris was making her &#8220;first big mistake&#8221; in failing to make herself more available to the media, thereby &#8220;raising the stakes&#8221; and the level of scrutiny that will necessarily be applied to every appearance she makes.
&#8220;Let me start with the first big mistake of the Harris campaign since she took over as the Democratic nominee. They have now raised the stakes for her first sitdown interview,&#8221; Todd wrote, arguing that people would be paying much closer attention to every little comment and inflection simply because she had made such a point of not taking media questions.
&#8220;More words and phrases will get scrutinized simply because the campaign and the candidate are behaving as if doing these interviews is about as interesting to them as visiting the dentist’s office,&#8221; he added.
Todd went on to explain that Trump had done exactly the opposite — taking questions even from outlets and reporters he knew were not going to treat him fairly — because he lived by the adage &#8220;all publicity is good publicity.&#8221;

&#8220;I know many Democrats have an allergy to all things Trump, but the one thing I thought more candidates would learn from his initial campaign in 2016 is that he viewed all media as good for him, whether he thought the interviewer was a friendly, a neutral or an opponent,&#8221; Todd explained. &#8220;When he said something outrageous or controversial during one sit-down, he’d do something entirely newsy (and just as notable) in another that would essentially dilute the impact of all of his interviews.&#8221;
Thus far in the 2024 campaign, Trump and running mate JD Vance appear to be adopting the same strategy. Vance, for example, has done a number of solo interviews since Trump selected him to be the Republican vice presidential nominee. Harris has yet to do her first — a pre-taped, joint interview alongside running mate Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) hosted by friendly CNN anchor Dana Bash.

NBC News&#8217; Chuck Todd said Tuesday that Biden&#8217;s declining cognitive health has been an &#8220;open secret&#8221; for years, revealing that a senior cabinet member from the Biden administration suggested in 2022 that the president cannot run for reelection.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not gonna out the cabinet secretary, right?&#8221; Todd <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2024/07/10/chuck_todd_a_senior_biden_cabinet_secretary_told_me_two_years_ago_he_cant_run_again_like_this.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on his podcast, &#8220;The Chuck Toddcast.&#8221; &#8220;But I had a cabinet secretary two years ago&#8230; all out of the blue ask me, &#8216;Do you really think he&#8217;s gonna — he can&#8217;t run again like this?'&#8221;
The former &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; host then said that the secretary told him he had little interaction with Biden.
&#8220;This is a pretty senior cabinet secretary. And this was two years ago,&#8221; Todd emphasized. &#8220;This is one of those, you know, it&#8217;s the classic open secret, a non-versation, right? It&#8217;s the story everybody knows and no one was— everybody was afraid to talk about.&#8221;
Todd further criticized the Biden administration for hiding Biden&#8217;s health, notably giving the mainstream media a pass.
&#8220;It looks like they&#8217;re putting, essentially, party over country — and for what?&#8221; he posed. &#8220;They cannot, I mean, there is no evidence — this is irresponsible — there is no evidence he can serve four years.&#8221;
&#8220;There is no evidence he can serve four years and the fact that they have to drag — this White House had to, they had to drag it out of him that they&#8217;ve had this neurological test,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;If he had it, he should have been at the [ABC News host George] Stephanopoulos interview: &#8216;Here you go, George, here it is. Here it is. I know people have been asking for it. Look, I did it in February. It&#8217;s clear, you know, it&#8217;s all fine. Here it is.'&#8221;
&#8220;But now you have to wait till the New York Times goes to the visitor logs, finds eight visits!&#8221; he said. &#8220;&#8216;No, it wasn&#8217;t eight. It&#8217;s just been three with Biden. But don&#8217;t worry, all is good.&#8217; They have no credibility left on this topic. None.&#8221;
Despite concerns from Democrats, Biden has been adamant that he’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/schumer-backs-biden-as-democrat-concerns-over-fitness-mount" target="_blank" rel="noopener">staying</a> in the race, even saying during the recent ABC News interview that he would only drop out if the “Lord Almighty” told him to.

President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> is channeling his irritation about the crisis of confidence in his 2024 re-election run in the wrong direction, NBC News chief political analyst <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nbcs-chuck-todd-baffled-team-biden-pushed-for-debate-rules-that-make-trump-seem-more-presidential" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chuck Todd</a> argued on Monday.
The critique was in response to a comment Biden made during an impromptu phone interview on MSNBC&#8217;s &#8220;Morning Joe&#8221; earlier on Monday morning in which the president <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-blows-off-debate-criticism-by-suggesting-msnbc-hosts-might-die-tomorrow" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blew off criticism</a> he&#8217;s faced after a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
“I’m getting so frustrated by the elites in the party. &#8230; They know so much more,” Biden <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/biden-pushes-defiant-message-letter-democrats-msnbc-appearance-rcna160688" target="_blank" rel="noopener">quipped</a>. “If any of these guys don’t think I should run, run against me. Go ahead. Announce for president — challenge me at the convention!”
Yet, as noted by Todd, it was powerful Democrats who allowed Biden to be <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/12/03/democrats-primaries-new-hampshire-iowa-south-carolina/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">insulated</a> from challengers during the primary season and <a href="https://www.npr.org/2023/11/02/1210211164/no-labels-democrats-republicans-third-party-2024-election-trump-biden-pelosi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">demonized</a> the now-abandoned No Labels effort that sought a third-party ticket.
&#8220;Biden’s anger at &#8216;elites&#8217; is a bit misplaced. Without the &#8216;elites,&#8217; he would have had a serious primary foe. Without the &#8216;elites,&#8217; the No Labels effort would have a compelling ticket. Arguably, it’s the &#8216;elites&#8217; who put too much faith in Biden that got the Dems in this position,&#8221; he <a href="https://x.com/chucktodd/status/1810318209129893993" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said on X</a>.

Polls have shown that voters are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/post-debate-poll-shows-72-of-voters-say-biden-not-fit-to-serve" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increasingly doubtful</a> that the president is fit to continue serving well into his 80s, and some members of his own party have been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-blasts-peers-for-weakening-a-weakened-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">calling on Biden</a> to drop out of the 2024 race.
Biden, 81, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-tells-congressional-dems-he-is-firmly-committed-to-staying-in-this-race" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent a letter</a> to congressional Democrats on Monday stating that &#8220;despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump.&#8221;

NBC News chief political analyst Chuck Todd pondered on Wednesday why President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a>&#8216;s campaign pushed for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/debates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">debate</a> conditions that he believes will allow former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> to appear &#8220;more presidential.&#8221;
During an appearance on MSNBC, Todd hearkened back four years when Trump made headlines for his constant interruptions. For CNN&#8217;s debate this week, the candidates agreed to rules that include <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-shows-off-exactly-how-mics-will-be-cut-off-at-trump-biden-debate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cutting off a candidate&#8217;s microphone</a> when it is not his turn to speak.
&#8220;This to me, though, is the real risk for Team Biden. &#8230; They so want to have a different experience than the last debate they had with him or the first debate from the last cycle. And ironically, that&#8217;s the single best debate Biden had, right?&#8221; Todd said.
He added, &#8220;Because Trump&#8217;s behavior really sort of almost cemented Biden&#8217;s lead by that point and it may have done Trump in at that point. And now here&#8217;s the Biden campaign trying to come up with a set of rules to make sure Trump seems more presentable?&#8221;

Todd concluded, &#8220;I have to say, when you sort of look at their motivation here and given the experience they had four years ago, it&#8217;s a head scratcher to me that they went so out of their way to try to create an environment that will make Trump seem more presidential.&#8221;
Trump and Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-to-hold-first-2024-debate-between-trump-and-biden-with-no-audience" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agreed</a> to appear for CNN&#8217;s debate back in May, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/05/15/biden-trump-presidential-debates/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">eschewing</a> the Commission on Presidential Debates. Another debate between Biden and Trump — this one hosted by ABC News — is planned for September 10.

Around that time, Biden&#8217;s campaign released a <a href="https://x.com/KellieMeyerNews/status/1790729496267473265" target="_blank" rel="noopener">memo</a> saying the debates should be one-on-one with &#8220;firm time limits for answers&#8221; and calling for a candidate&#8217;s microphone to be active only when it is his turn to speak to promote &#8220;orderly proceedings.&#8221;
Trump recently <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/daily-memo/3056147/trump-on-the-debate/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The Washington Examiner&#8217;s Byron York he was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-shares-backstory-on-agreeing-to-cnn-debate-moderated-by-fake-tapper" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approached</a> with a debate he &#8220;couldn&#8217;t take&#8221; so the impasse could be pinned on him. &#8220;They thought they would present it, I would say no, and they would say we can’t debate because Trump said no. So I said yes before they even gave me the terms. So he got roped into it.”
The CNN debate is slated for 9 p.m. ET on Thursday. It is expected to last 90 minutes and will not feature an audience in the Atlanta studio. “State of the Union” anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash have been selected as moderators.
