The vast majority of Americans believe that parents should be able to opt their children out of gender and sexuality-related curricula that violate their religious beliefs, according to a new survey shared with The Daily Wire. 
Data from the <a href="https://becketfund.org" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Becket Fund</a>’s annual Religious Freedom Index found that 77% of Americans believe parents should be able to opt their children out of curriculum violating their religious beliefs, up from 74% the previous year. Just 23% said they didn’t think parents should be able to opt their kids out for religious reasons. 
“Parents don’t take a back seat to anyone when it comes to raising their children,&#8221; Lori Windham, vice president and senior counsel at Becket told The Daily Wire. &#8220;This year’s Index shows that a vast majority of Americans believe in this commonsense principle and in every parent’s right to excuse their children from classroom lessons that violate their faith.&#8221;
“Our nation is best when we empower parents, not the government, to decide what’s best for their children,&#8221; she added. 
Becket has <a href="https://becketfund.org/case/mahmoud-v-taylor/?_sm_nck=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">requested</a> the Supreme Court to hear a case featuring a coalition of Maryland parents, including both Christians and Muslims, who want to be able to opt their elementary school-aged students out of instruction on gender and sexuality. The parents argue that the Montgomery County School Board is violating their religious beliefs by forcing children as young as three to read books about transgenderism, pride parades, and preferred pronouns. 
The case is expected to be reviewed at one of the Supreme Court’s upcoming conferences.

The responses were gathered after Becket asked survey respondents if they agreed or disagreed with the following statement: “Parents should be able to opt their children out of public school curriculum on gender and sexuality that violates their religious beliefs or that they believe is not age appropriate.”
The data were shared with The Daily Wire ahead of the publication of Becket&#8217;s Religious Freedom Index, which measures American attitudes toward the First Amendment. This year’s survey featured answers from a representative sample taken from an online poll of 1,000 adults.
In <a href="https://becketnewsite.s3.amazonaws.com/20240116160431/RFI-One-Pager-2023_.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previous years</a>, the index has asked Americans about their attitudes toward religion in the workplace and whether they think religion can help solve America’s problems. 
Across the country, there is broad support for parents to have increasing control over their children’s education. A recent poll from Parents Defending Education found that 75% of parents do not support teachers providing instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity to elementary school students.

Ascension&#8217;s prayer-focused podcast &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rosary-in-a-year-podcast-debuts-at-number-one-topping-joe-rogan-dateline" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Rosary in a Year</a>,&#8221; which is hosted by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ascensionpress/reel/DEfyGOoyaH8/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Father Mark-Mary Ames</a>, recently debuted at No. 1 on the Apple podcast charts in all categories, topping even podcast behemoth Joe Rogan, prompting celebratory and good-natured headlines about &#8220;Rosary over Rogan.&#8221;
“I think there are a lot of people out there who are serious about their faith and they&#8217;re hungry and they&#8217;re thirsty for more, and so when there are resources out there that are substantial, they really are drawn to them,&#8221; Fr. Mark-Mary told The Daily Wire in an interview on Monday.
&#8220;<a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-rosary-in-a-year-with-fr-mark-mary-ames/id1776236328" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Rosary in a Year</a>&#8221; follows Ascension&#8217;s breakout hit from 2021, &#8220;The Bible in a Year&#8221; podcast, which is hosted by a Father Mike Schmitz, a charismatic priest serving in Minnesota. The listenership for &#8220;Bible in a Year&#8221; is massive, garnering well over 700 million downloads; “Rosary in A Year” could be on track for similar numbers. After debuting in the top spot on the Apple charts, it still remains in the <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/charts">top ten</a>. 
And there are many other Christian shows gaining steam in the podcast space. Catholic discussion podcasts “Pints with Aquinas” and Bishop Robert Barron&#8217;s “The Word on Fire” each get millions of views just on Youtube, and Allie Beth Stuckey’s podcast “Relatable,&#8221; which mixes politics and Christianity, gets comparable numbers.

Hallow, which has been endorsed by stars like Mark Wahlberg and Gwen Stefani, also brings in staggering numbers. The app has over 22 million installs, and around Easter time last year, Hallow landed at the No. 1 spot on the Apple App Store – marking the first time a health, wellness, meditation, or religious app ever accomplished such a feat.
Stand-alone faith-based content is not where it stops, either. Reigning podcast king Joe Rogan has increasingly been bringing on Christian perspective guests. The same week &#8220;Rosary In a Year&#8221; was climbing the Apple charts, Rogan dropped a highly anticipated episode with biblical scholar <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwyAX69xG1Q" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wesley Huff</a>. Just one week later, he brought on outspoken Catholic actor Mel Gibson, who is currently working on a sequel to the massively successful “Passion of the Christ&#8221; film. Moreover, all of this comes as Rogan himself has drastically changed his tone toward Christianity, from openly hostile years ago to seemingly curious in 2025.

The discussion of faith on Rogan&#8217;s podcast is a prime example of faith breaking through the mainstream. &#8220;The Joe Rogan Experience&#8221; audience is mostly male and not particularly religious – and the reach is massive. It&#8217;s the most popular podcast on Spotify, with 14.5 million followers, and episodes average around 11 million views each. Huff&#8217;s episode is already nearing 5 million views on YouTube, and Gibson&#8217;s has racked up more than 7 million views.
Fr. Mark-Mary is not at all surprised about Christian content busting through the mainstream, and isn&#8217;t sure how anyone could be.
“I think it&#8217;s funny how people are kind of being surprised that some of this Christian content is resonating with people and doing so well,&#8221; he told The Daily Wire. &#8220;And it just strikes me as, it&#8217;s a very modern sort of worldview that wouldn&#8217;t view God as mainstream. God, who is the creator of everything &#8230; the idea of this being mainstream is the most reasonable thing in the world to me. And so, I&#8217;m grateful that it&#8217;s sort of breaking through again and reminding us that people are made by God, made for God.&#8221;
While the Christian content trend is undeniable, polling shows a more complex picture.
An average of all 2023 Gallup polling found that about <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/358364/religious-americans.aspx">22%</a> of Americans are not affiliated with religion, which is the highest it’s ever been. And nearly half of all Zoomers, those born between 1997 and 2012, are not religiously affiliated, according to a 2022 YouGov survey. But there&#8217;s also data showing a shift toward religion. A Springtide Research Institute survey from 2023, for example, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/is-gen-z-going-back-to-church">found</a> that a third of people aged 18 to 25 believe more than doubt the existence of a higher power. That’s an increase from only about a quarter in 2021. 
There are also other signs, like the significant spike in <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/bible-sales-booming-despite-decline-religiosity-first-time-buyer-says-its-about-finding-purpose" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bible sales</a>; or more anecdotal happenings, like the trend online of noticing <a href="https://x.com/JonnyRoot_/status/1874985779690352857">more</a> athletes talking about their <a href="https://cbn.com/news/entertainment/god-moving-football-players-point-jesus-and-field-giving-hope-fans">faith</a>, or arguably the most popular comedian in the mainstream right now, Nate Bargatze, being a clean Christian comic who speaks openly about his faith.

At the same time, though, it’s undeniable that there’s a more extreme push away from God in the mainstream. A prime example of that is the explosion and normalization of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/this-is-how-we-stop-the-festering-disease-called-onlyfans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">OnlyFans</a>, which is largely a subscription pornography site.
&#8220;Each person&#8217;s story certainly is going to be unique, but I do think that one thing that can bring many people to God &#8212; and it happens in individuals and it can happen in a society &#8212; is a distaste or a disillusionment of some of the other options out there,&#8221; Fr. Mark-Mary said of the polarity in the culture. 
&#8220;Okay, here are the proposed worldviews, here are the proposed lifestyles &#8212; many young people, or people in general, have tried it a little bit and they&#8217;re like, no, that is just not what I&#8217;m looking for,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;So they go looking somewhere else, and it brings them to the Lord, or to being more serious about their faith.&#8221;
&#8220;I do think that God uses that to bring people to Him,&#8221; Fr. Mark-Mary added.

The Christian Content Takeover: Why ‘Rosary Over Rogan’ Is Bigger Than You Think

Christians around the world are facing increased violence and threats because of their faith, according to a new watchdog report shared with The Daily Wire. 
<a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Open Doors</a>, an organization dedicated to aiding persecuted Christians, released its annual report on persecution on Wednesday, finding that 380 million believers worldwide face high levels of persecution or discrimination for their faith. This was a steep increase from its 2024 report, which found that 365 million Christians faced intense levels of persecution. 
The report found that in 2024, 4,476 Christians were killed for their faith, including 3,100 in Nigeria; 3,944 were sexually assaulted, or forcibly married; 54,780 Christians were physically or mentally abused; 209,771 were forced to leave their homes; and 4,744 were sentenced to prison for their beliefs.  
For the last 32 years, the organization has ranked the top 50 worst countries for persecution of Christians. The top offender this year was again communist North Korea, where the state aggressively cracks down on religious expression. The other countries rounding out the top ten include Somalia, Yemen, Libya, Sudan, Eritrea, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. 
“At one level, it shouldn’t be a surprise at all there is persecution,” Open Doors President Ryan Brown told The Daily Wire. “When you take a look at the very birth of the church, if you read the New Testament, you see that the majority of the New Testament was written to those experiencing persecution or written by those experiencing persecution.”
Brown said that while persecution in Malaysia increased in the last year, it still fell out of the top 50 because the targeting of Christians had increased even more in other countries. 
“The things that, even just a year ago, were severe enough to have a country on that list on top 50, this year it wasn’t enough,” Brown said. “That global picture actually worsened.” 
When ranking countries, Open Doors considers a number of factors including government policies, community practices, and whether Christians are able to do things like go to church and own a Bible.
The two countries that were new to the top 50 this year were Chad and Kyrgyzstan, which saw the most dramatic increase in persecution of any country. 
Brown also noted that violence against Christians is trending upward in sub-Saharan Africa, where Christians are often targeted by Islamic extremists. He urged people to join the “<a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/getinvolved/arise-africa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Arise Africa</a>” campaign, which seeks to bring awareness to the widespread persecution in the region. 
In Mexico, Brown said the situation for Christians had worsened because of cartel violence directed at churches upset they were undermining their illicit activities. 
“As folks move away from drugs and become engaged in the church, it&#8217;s bad for their business,” he said. “So the church has come under direct attack from the cartels in Mexico.”

Brown said the situation for Christians in Yemen has been “bleak” due to the country&#8217;s ongoing civil war. 
“Civil war obviously creates all sorts of instability in these areas,” he said. “We have seen some of the Islamic militants, specifically the Houthi rebels, that have been more than willing to step into some of those vacuums and perpetuate the instability. One of the ways that they can do that most effectively is targeting Christians. They are often able to do so with impunity.” 
The report features anecdotes from Christians around the world, including in Burkino Faso, where a man referred to as Pastor Sore said he had to flee with his family because of attacks from Islamic militants.
“When the terrorists come to churches and find Christians, they tell them that Christianity’s time is over, and they should turn to Islam,” he said. “They warn Christians to stop conducting services. After warning, when they come back later and find you in the church, they kill you.”
“I do believe that we are displaced, but Jesus is not and will never be displaced from our lives,” he added. “He is always with us.&#8221;
With the incoming Trump administration, Brown said he saw a “tremendous opportunity” to advance religious freedom abroad. He said that religious freedom helps create stability in countries and can aid in other foreign policy objectives.
&#8220;During Trump’s first term he articulated, and I think in many ways, demonstrated that freedom of religious belief would be central to a lot of their approaches to foreign policy,” he said, adding he hoped that policy would continue into his second term. 
When running for president, Trump promised to protect persecuted Christians, specifically Armenians.
“Kamala Harris did NOTHING as 120,000 Armenian Christians were horrifically persecuted and forcibly displaced in Artsakh,&#8221; Trump posted on Truth Social in October. &#8220;Christians around the World will not be safe if Kamala Harris is President of the United States. When I am President, I will protect persecuted Christians, I will work to stop the violence and ethnic cleansing, and we will restore PEACE between Armenia and Azerbaijan.&#8221;

The night Donald Trump won re-election, a sense of sweet peace settled over me. It had little to do with politics, little even to do with Trump himself. Trump is, to be sure, a titanic figure, a living avatar of our age, for good and sometimes ill. No other man I know of could have manifested the inner iron required to defy the entrenched powers and withstand their tidal onslaught of abuse and deceit.
But his fight was not my fight, and his victory was just a symbol of my victory. I have only ever been a novelist, a storytelling artist. I drifted into political commentary when, after seven years as an expatriate, I returned to an America whose foundational ideas had been gutted by a corrupted culture. Our universities were infested with leftist theorists who worked to smother the voices of the sages they were meant to teach. Our news media was biased to the point of corruption. And our entertainment media was using every pop icon from Superman to Snow White as a propagandist for perversion, racialism, and Western self-hatred.
When, barely a year after my return, a group of Islamist murderers attacked the city of my birth, slaughtering three thousand civilians in the name of their hateful god — and when, in response, our professors and journalists and entertainers quivered with philosophical nuance, wondering aloud what the naughty U.S. had done to bring this atrocity upon itself — and when the film industry in which I worked began churning out movies about evil G.I.’s and CIA agents tormenting and oppressing innocent Muslims in their cherubic multicultural piety — I saw no other honorable course but to write and speak about these moral distortions.
I believe, though I can’t prove, that this decision cost me my multi-million dollar career as a screenwriter and my place of respect in the literary world I love. All I know for sure is that the phone calls from Hollywood and the awards and raves from New York vanished in a startling flash.
Nevertheless, I persisted. And over the next twenty years or so, I watched as entrepreneurs like Andrew Breitbart, Jeremy Boreing, Bari Weiss and Elon Musk organized scattered and lonesome rebels like myself into an internet militia which, like our revolutionary forefathers, could pop out of cover and take potshots at the goose-stepping legions of the empire of lies.
To me, Trump’s victory meant simply this: we beat them. Skirmish by skirmish, we exposed their oppressive philosophies, their abuses of power, and their ceaselessly dishonest mangling of history, news and national mythology. When they slandered Trump as Hitler, when they indicted him on wholly bogus charges, when they created movies and TV shows and novels singing the praises of government power and idiot utopianism, we shot them down one by one until half the electorate felt bold enough to reject them.
The day was ours.
So … What now?

The losers, of course, must pass through the seven stages of grief: anger, whining, blaming everyone but themselves, more whining, denial, denial, denial. Who knows if they will ever face the facts? Their philosophy was false; their policies failed; they lied and censored in an effort to maintain their power and prestige; the rotten structure collapsed on their heads. End of story.
The victorious entrepreneurs, having done the negative work of debunking the opposition’s lies, must now build the structures for the positive business of truth-telling: unbiased journalism, the creation of high and popular art, and the infrastructure of commentary, appreciation, reviews and awards.
But I remain what I always was: a barefoot teller of tales. For me, there is only one question. What do I want to write about next?
The answer is this: I want to explore the nature of God.
Over these past twenty years or so, it has become increasingly clear to me that our worst problems have their sources in unbelief. Our centuries-long drift away from Christian faith — what Nietzsche called the death of God — is, as Nietzsche predicted it would be, at the heart of our catastrophe.
Most often, it manifests itself in one of three forms. Materialism, the idea that spiritual problems can be solved by physical means. Misogyny, devaluing women as women — as wives, homemakers and mothers who excel outside masculine power structures. And antisemitism, the hatred of Jews, which as I explained in a previous essay, is really a disguised hatred of one Jew, namely Jesus Christ. Examine our most entrenched dysfunctions — the dearth of children, degrading promiscuity and perversion, government redistribution of wealth, censorship and authoritarianism, drug abuse both lay and medical, the sexual butchering of the young, the atrocity of abortion, the snarling cruelty and ignorance of our debates — and you can trace them back to one of these three manifestations of our faithlessness.
But the truth is, just as we have won the political argument, this argument too is already over.
“Something profound is happening,” writes Peter Savodnik in the Free Press. “Instead of smirking at religion, some of our most important philosophers, novelists, and public intellectuals are now reassessing their contempt for it.” Sales of Bibles Are Booming, Fueled by First-Time Buyers, reads the Wall Street Journal headline. The sales spiked 22% in a year.
The revival of the intelligentsia — which I’ve predicted for over a decade — has begun.
As in the political sphere, our job is no longer to debunk the non-believers, it is to rediscover what it means to believe. The ancient and medieval wisdoms and orthodoxies are important, but there are more basic questions that have to be answered before thinking non-believers can even put their toe in those deep waters. Plus, old language may not always suffice in our new scientific and technological world.
As <a href="https://thenewjerusalem.substack.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New Jerusalem</a> enters a new year and, I hope, a new era, I would like to propose some topics for open discussion.
<h3>Heart vs. Mind</h3>
Science, technology and capitalism are so responsive to the work of intellection that they have lifted reason above its station. GK Chesterton was right when he said, “The madman is not the man who has lost his reason. The madman is the man who has lost everything except his reason.”
Conversely, prophets, artists, and mystics are frequently not the most intellectual of men. They possess a wholeness of perception that reveals the world to them with an immediacy that can only be communicated by parable, art, and praxis.
When we look at Jesus honestly, we find he too is vastly bigger than our theologies. His presence cannot be reduced to rules and philosophies. We must renew the rituals and practices that can re-open our eyes to a love beyond reason.
<h3>Inside vs. Out</h3>
For centuries, materialist thinkers have sought to find the source of spiritual reality within the mind of man. Whether it was a Freudian understanding of God as a psychic projection of our fathers, the Jungian dodge of a “collective unconscious,” or an image of the evolved brain as a generator of false perceptions, the basic idea was that spiritual truth is a psychic creation rather than an outward reality.
Not so. We see God through a glass darkly, but his incarnation in Christ is proof that what we see is really there. What should we believe, then, about God’s actions on earth? The reality of angels and demons? The efficacy of prayer? How can we discuss this without descending into either superstition or rationalism?
<h3>Symbol vs. Reality</h3>
The thesis of all religion is that there is an invisible reality that our world reveals and symbolizes. Transcendental values like love, justice and mercy must be made manifest in human word and deed. But what are the limits? It’s lovely to say a husband and wife represent Christ and the church, but is that what he’s thinking when he’s chasing her around the bedroom? (I hope not!)
While living into transcendentals can elevate our behavior, inhuman restrictions based on metaphor can be immiserating, inflame doctrinal hatred and give fuel to the arguments of unbelievers. Can we discuss ecumenicism, interfaith cooperation, and various other species of tolerance and deviance without either moral surrender or bullying self-certainty?
<h3>Orthodoxy vs. Individuality</h3>
A church without orthodoxy is Satan’s sandbox. Orthodoxy creates the image of the spiritual kingdom to which we are responsible. But each person’s journey to that kingdom is unique and may take them through territory of which church orthodoxy disapproves. Can we allow the beauty of the single soul to thrive in a church of true faith?
I’ve given up much to speak my mind. Money and prestige and career dreams. All things of value, make no mistake. My peaceful sense of victory now is gratifying. But the destruction of lies is not the triumph of the truth, and it’s on the truth that the reclamation of our culture depends. Our enemy counts on us to defend our faith with rigidity, belligerence and cruelty. Give us vision, open minds and loving hearts, and we will watch him fall like lightning.

The video, uploaded by Gianna Halpin and shared by journalist Sachin Jose, shows the Halpin family singing &#8220;Regina Caeli&#8221; in Latin. An <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/onlyfans">OnlyFans</a> content creator was recorded propositioning a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/restaurant">fast food</a> employee for sex, but she was turned down after the worker told her he was “a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/christianity">Christian</a> man.”
Bonnie Blue, 25, is a controversial OnlyFans creator who targets 18 and 19-year-olds to have sex with her. 
Viewers had mixed reactions when Blue shared the video on her TikTok account. In the clip, the content creator enters a Five Guys branch and asks an employee where she can find “five guys” and inquires whether he’s “on the menu.”
&#8220;I can’t see it on the menu, but where are the five guys from?&#8221; she asks.
The worker replies, &#8220;The… huh?&#8221; 
She clarifies her statement, saying, &#8220;I didn’t know if it was like a special room, or you can take me out back?&#8221;
The worker again responds with confusion and says, &#8220;Uh, I don’t know what’s happening.&#8221;
&#8220;What about after your shift? I mean, I’d want to give you, you know, a good rating,&#8221; she says. 
The worker responds, &#8220;I’m a Christian man, and I’m waiting until marriage.&#8221; 
Bonnie Blue says, &#8220;I’m asking what’s on your menu, that’s all.&#8221; He responds, &#8220;Genuinely, I feel like I’m dreaming right now. I can hand you the menu if you want.&#8221;
The OF star doesn’t give up, saying, &#8220;Are you on it?&#8221; to which he replies, &#8220;No, I’m not.&#8221; 
She replies, &#8220;Oh, that’s a shame.&#8221;
The employee later shared the exchange on his X account, writing, “Bonnie Blue recording me at work was not on my bingo card for this year, but here we are, I guess.”

In an <a href="https://metro.co.uk/2024/11/05/bonnie-blue-sex-barely-legal-teens-predatory-educational-21928983/">interview</a> with Metro last November, Blue said: “People are calling me a predator anyway. So it makes no difference if I’m a guy or a female, because my hate has been through the roof in terms of death threats and non-stop abuse.”
“If I was forcing them off the street, dragging them up, then yeah, call me a predator, but it’s not the case,” she added, claiming that 18-year-olds “choose to contact her.”

People are widely praising President Jimmy Carter’s Christian faith after his passing, a reaction that reveals a telling double standard in how elites treat different expressions of Christianity.
For example, a <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/history/2025/01/01/jimmy-carter-evangelical-baptist-faith/">Washington Post</a> writer declared, “For Jimmy Carter, faith was inseparable from politics and life.” The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/opinion/5060618-jimmy-carter-christian-example/">wrote</a>, &#8220;Jimmy Carter was the Christian most politicians pretend to be.” And The New York Times<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/12/30/us/carter-on-death.html"> profiled</a> how Carter’s faith defined his activities and outlook in public life.
By all accounts, Carter’s Christianity was a particularly pietistic expression of Mainline Protestantism. This is a faith whose doctrinal core has been hollowed out for decades by theological liberalism. It’s a modernized Christianity that sheds the most controversial and supposedly outmoded elements of biblical doctrine to placate the spirit of the age.
For example, Carter is on record celebrating same-sex marriage and defending abortion. He publicly opposed Southern Baptist conservatives as they sought to return the denomination to a more biblically faithful position, ultimately departing it altogether.
Carter’s faith resonates with liberal ideals — service, humility, and social justice. His Christianity embodied what one of my old professors called “BOMFOG” (Brotherhood of Man and Fatherhood of God). This version of Christianity wins praise. 
Of course, service, humility, seeking justice, and loving your neighbor are beautiful and vital parts of Christianity. But Christianity also addresses sin, human nature, family structure, the exclusivity of Christ for salvation, sexual morality, repentance, and absolute truth. These are the harder truths of the faith that don’t play well in progressive circles.
When conservative Christians act on their faith, public opinion and media framing shift. Suddenly, Christianity becomes a problem. When conservative Christians act in line with their beliefs on issues like life, family, or religious liberty, they are met with criticism and labeled intolerant or regressive. It’s a threat to democracy and an illiberal force in society. 
Just look at the past eight years. Evangelicals have been relentlessly vilified in the media, even by fellow Christians at elite publications. Yes, there’s some nutty behavior out there among evangelicals. But on the whole, if you take your Christian faith seriously and it becomes a threat to the cultural comfort zones of progressivism, you are persona non grata. Consider the ominous media analysis of Sen. JD Vance’s supposed “post-liberal” Catholicism. The tone makes it seem like his faith is as sinister as Darth Vader’s theme song.
The difference? Carter’s faith comforted the cultural Left. It posed no threat to the dominant liberal order.
To be fair, his faith motivated many good works for which I will not criticize him. But Carter’s Christianity ultimately allowed him to serve as a chaplain to progressive America. It represents the convergence of religious sentimentality with progressive moral values. In effect, Carter’s faith symbolizes the one form of church-state establishment that liberalism will tolerate: a Christianity stripped of its harder truths, its calls to repentance, and its moral clarity.
Biblical, orthodox Christianity, on the other hand, confronts the liberal order with truths it refuses to hear. And when those truths are voiced, orthodox faith is sidelined or castigated as intolerant. Liberalism will not accept a Christianity that proclaims Jesus Christ as the only way to God, that defends unborn human beings discarded as medical waste, or that challenges the decadent sexual deviancy now treated as routine.
The lesson? Our culture tolerates a Christian faith that aligns with its values but resists a Christian faith that challenges it. This dynamic reveals something fundamental about true Christianity: it is to do both, comfort and confront.
If your Christianity is celebrated in the highest echelons of culture, maybe that’s a sign something is amiss. That doesn’t necessarily mean compromise is present, but it should at least raise questions. On the other hand, being so hard-edged and “prophetic” that you’re unbearable to be around is also a problem. Authentic faith should embody love and truth (1 Corinthians 13:6), reasonableness (Philippians 4:5), and sober-mindedness (1 Peter 5:8).
Carter’s life invites us to examine how faith is understood and celebrated in public life. The irony is clear: society embraces a faith that serves its agenda while rejecting a faith that stands apart from it. True Christianity, however, is neither a servant of the age nor its unrelenting critic. Instead, it provides both the comfort of grace and the challenge of repentance, which our culture desperately needs.
So, let’s not selectively celebrate faith only when it fits a preferred narrative. If faith matters, it matters in full, whether it aligns with our politics or not. That’s the beauty of Christianity. It’s the one worldview that provides both comfort and confrontation, truth and grace, and it’s what we need in this moment of cultural upheaval.

For only the second time in their 41-year marriage, Calvin and Trish Zastrow spent Thanksgiving apart. The first time was due to travel — this time it’s because Cal is serving a six-month prison sentence over a peaceful protest at a Tennessee abortion facility in 2021.
Zastrow was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-lifer-targeted-by-biden-admin-sentenced-to-prison" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> earlier this year on FACE Act-related charges brought by the Biden administration after he prayed, sang hymns, and sat in front of the door to the entrance of an abortion facility in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Calling from the Federal Correctional Institute Thomson in Illinois this week, Zastrow told The Daily Wire he was doing “absolutely fantastic.”
“I’m all on fire for Jesus,” he said. “I’m doing absolutely great, I’m on a big mission trip here.”
Over one month into his prison sentence, Zastrow said he has kept busy praying, reading his Bible, and teaching his fellow inmates about Christianity.
“There’s a whole lot of prodigals who are wallowing in pig mud, but they want to come back to Jesus, and so I’m here as a missionary to pull them out of that and help them get back on the Jesus road,” he said.
He said his friends and family have sent him over 50 books, mostly about Christian missionaries, and he has turned his cell into a sort of library. Zastrow said he’s been giving away a lot of copies in English and Spanish of the book “Tortured for Christ,” which is about Richard Wurmbrand, a pastor who spent years in a communist prison in Romania.
In a low-security section of the prison, Zastrow said he has seen few fights but has met a broad diversity of prisoners — from men convicted over January 6 to recruiters for ISIS and the Taliban.
He said that many of the January 6 prisoners are optimistic that they will get pardoned once President-elect Donald Trump takes office. He also referenced the discussion that Trump may pardon him, as the president-elect previously indicated that he would look at the cases of pro-lifers targeted by the Biden administration.
“I’m not getting my hopes up too high,” he said. “Plus I’m busy here. I’m busy. This prison holds almost 2,300 men and their need to hear about Jesus, their need for that is greater than my need for liberty. And so I’m here on a DOJ-sponsored mission trip.”
He said that most of the guards in the prison were unpleasant and would frequently “bark” and “scream” at the prisoners. “They can’t touch my joy, they can’t touch my soul, they can’t touch my attitude,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said he has been able to call his wife pretty much every day so far.
“We are very proud of our Cal,” Trish told The Daily Wire on Wednesday. “He’s in there ministering every day. He’s doing well. He isn’t backing down from things.”
Trish was able to visit her husband earlier this month, saying she was able to spend about four hours talking to him. Still, she said it has been tough to be away from him.
“We miss him around here,” she said, noting that they had a new grandson born on November 1. “I didn’t get to share it with Cal, he’s such a great grandpa.”
Zastrow gets 500 minutes a month to call people in 15-minute increments. Trish said her daughter put a special ringtone on her phone so she knows whenever he calls.
“One of the hardest things is I can’t just call and talk to him whenever I want,” she said. “I don’t want to ever miss a call.”
Zastrow is scheduled to be released from prison on April 8, but may be able to qualify for a few days of early release if he takes some classes. His family is eager to see him back, but say they are grateful for the opportunity he’s been given to share his faith.
“I feel very privileged to be his wife and I’m very proud of him for standing,” she said. “I’m excited to see what God does with all this.”

Pro-Lifer Spending Holidays In Prison Grateful For Opportunity: ‘A DOJ-Sponsored Mission Trip’

As Christians throughout the United States celebrate Christmas, tens of millions of their fellow believers face intense persecution for their beliefs and could be endangered if they choose to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Last year, at least 365 million Christians were persecuted for faith, including thousands who were killed and nearly 300,000 who were displaced, <a href="https://www.opendoorsus.org/en-US/persecution/persecution-trends/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to persecution watchdog Open Doors. Open Doors, which puts out a top fifty watchlist every year tracking persecution, said that violent attacks on Christians have only increased in recent years, especially throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. 
“Those things are rising because the church is rising, because the church is growing, because the church is having impact and influence in areas, and the gates of hell are trying to stamp that out,” Open Doors President Ryan Brown told The Daily Wire. 
While many Christians in the West celebrate the birth of Jesus at their churches and with their friends and family, there are many countries where doing so would be dangerous. 
Here are ten of the worst places for persecution around the world, <a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/persecution/countries/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Open Doors.
<h3>1. North Korea </h3>
The one non-Islamic country on the list, communist North Korea is notorious for its state enforced atheism and hatred of Christianity. Whole families can be sent to work camps if someone is found with a Bible in the Hermit Kingdom. 
According to Open Doors, there are around 400,000 Christians in the DPRK who regularly face heavy persecution. 
”Those in power see Christianity as being subversive and being a threat to their power. And in some cases they make an association because they see that as some kind of a tie to the West,” Brown told The Daily Wire. “In other cases it&#8217;s just this idea that anybody willing to lay down their life for something other than the state scares them.”
Brown said that many Christians who have successfully escaped North Korea will return to the country to “seek to live as Christ called them to live, to work and minister to their neighbors.”

<h3>2. Somalia </h3>
Known for its constant instability, Somalia is also a very dangerous country for the few hundreds of Christians estimated to live in the country. The predominant form of persecution there comes from Islamic radicals opposed to the growth of Christianity.
Somalia is the first Sub-Saharan country on the list, a region Brown said has been seeing increased violence. 
“There’s been a continued upsurge in violence throughout sub-Saharan Africa where there is a massive issue right now where a total of over 16.2 million Christians in [the region] that have been displaced,” he said. 
Brown urges Christians to join the “<a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/getinvolved/arise-africa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Arise Africa</a>” campaign which seeks to bring awareness to the widespread persecution in Sub-Saharan Africa. He urged them to pray for the African church and find ways to support them with educational and material needs.
<h3>3. Libya </h3>
This North African neighbor to Egypt was long ruled by dictator Muammar Gaddafi until 2011. The vast majority of Libyans are Sunni Muslims who adhere to Sharia Law. Libya is also home to just 35,000 Christians which is less than 1% of the country’s population. 
According to the U.S. <a href="https://www.state.gov/reports/2022-report-on-international-religious-freedom/libya/">Department of State</a>, &#8220;Muslims who converted to another religion faced intense social and economic pressure to renounce their faith and return to Islam.&#8221;

<h3>4. Eritrea</h3>
Located on the western bank of the Red Sea, Eritrea borders Sudan, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. While Christians make up nearly half (47%) of Eritrea’s population, they face deep challenges as the dictatorial government doesn’t tolerate Christianity <a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/persecution/countries/eritrea/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outside</a> of three recognized denominations. At least 1,000 Christians are currently estimated to be imprisoned there without having faced any formal charges.
<h3>5. Yemen</h3>
Christians are subject to intense persecution from Islamic radicals in Yemen, which is located at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. In 2024, the Islamic Houthi rebels attacked numerous commercial ships and oil tankers passing through the Red Sea on their way to the Suez Canal, successfully disrupting a major international shipping lane.
According to Open Doors, only a small number of Christians live in Yemen. Like many other Islamic countries, people who convert to Christianity can face severe consequences, even from their families, for their decision.

<h3>6. Nigeria</h3>
While Nigeria is home to some very large churches, more Christians are killed in Nigeria than in any other country. In 2023, it was <a href="https://www.opendoorsus.org/en-US/stories/13-christians-killed-day-average/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that over 4,100 Christians were killed in the African country, largely due to Islamic persecution. 
&#8220;There were more people killed in Nigeria last year than all other places in the globe combined, nearly about 80% of those that were martyred for their faith occurred in Nigeria,&#8221; Brown said of those killed for their Christian faith. “In many ways, Nigeria is kind of a concentrated reflection of what we are seeing throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.”
Last year, over 150 Christians <a href="https://www.opendoorsuk.org/news/latest-news/nigeria-attacks-christmas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were</a> killed during Christmas Eve attacks by Islamic Fulani herdsmen.
<h3>7. Pakistan</h3>
Pakistan’s four million Christians also face intense persecution for their faith and are often openly prosecuted. According to <a href="https://www.opendoorsuk.org/countries-watch/pakistan/">Open Doors</a>, 1.8% of the population identify as Christian, but due to Pakistan&#8217;s strict blasphemy laws, very few can talk about their faith.
&#8220;Pakistan’s notorious blasphemy laws are often used to target minority groups, but Christians are disproportionately affected – in fact, roughly a quarter of all blasphemy accusations target Christians.&#8221;
Pakistani Christians also face &#8220;institutionalised discrimination&#8221; and are given &#8220;occupations that are deemed low, dirty and degrading – such as working as a sewer cleaner or on a brick kiln – are reserved for Christians by the authorities. Many are referred to as ‘chura’, a derogatory term meaning ‘filthy’.&#8221;
<h3>8. Sudan </h3>
Returning to Sub-Saharan Africa, Sudan’s two million Christians face intense persecution that has only been <a href="https://www.opendoorsus.org/en-US/persecution/countries/sudan/?gad_source=1&amp;gbraid=0AAAAAqQP2Ook0kQ403zkIS6qUIF6Z_g99&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiAsaS7BhDPARIsAAX5cSBeC5bPV1MmoZNdmwvLl0noggWgPui5AlY9oIlBWuEjblqyMu-YM7UaAqfVEALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exacerbated</a> by the civil unrest in the country as the National Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) battle it out for control. Millions of people, including Christians, have been displaced due to the fighting.
Brown said that Christians will often be targeted and mistreated in refugee camps and not be given access to equal support and aid.
<h3>9. Iran</h3>
Iran’s government targets Christians in Iran with a number of oppressive laws, <a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/persecution/countries/iran/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">including</a> making conversion to Christianity illegal.
“The government views conversion as an attempt by the West to undermine Islam and the Islamic government of Iran,” Open Doors reports. “This means that anyone who is discovered to be a member of a house church can be charged with a crime against national security, which can lead to long prison sentences.”

<h3>10. Afghanistan</h3>
Only a few thousand Christians are estimated to be in Afghanistan, but they face intense cultural persecution from the Taliban, which has no tolerance for Christianity.
The next World Watch report from Open Doors comes out in January, and Brown urges Christians to try to remember their persecuted brethren through prayer and support on a more frequent basis. He said that much of the persecution is happening in places where the church is actually growing and active.
“Even in those places it seems most dark, and yes it is dark and yes there is evil, but that evil is there because there is a hope there, because there is a light there, because the church is present and the church is working,” he said.

Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/denzel-washington">Denzel Washington</a> was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/christianity">baptized</a> and presented with a minister license, which allows him to become ordained in the future, during a Facebook livestream on Saturday. 
The event occurred at Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ located in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. 
At one point, Washington took the microphone to reflect on what being baptized meant to him. &#8220;In one week I turn 70,&#8221; he said, per <a href="https://www.today.com/popculture/denzel-washington-baptized-rcna185155">Today</a>. &#8220;It took a while, but I&#8217;m here.&#8221;
Later on, he told a story about meeting a woman at his mother’s beauty parlor when he was 20.
“She said, ‘Boy, you are going to travel the world and preach to millions of people,’” the “Gladiator II” star said. “She wouldn’t even spell the word prophecy. My mother wrote the word prophecy&#8230;50 years later, look at God. If He can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit and there’s no limit to the sky.”
Washington also said he was thankful for his &#8220;loving, faithful wife,&#8221; Pauletta Washington. The pair has been married since 1983.
&#8220;To God be the glory. Hallelujah!&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Anything I can do, I will do for this church, the Almighty. I just want to be in that number when the saints go marching in.&#8221;
Archbishop Christopher Bryant also shared photos of the event in a Facebook post.

&#8220;He is dressed that way because, in the same service, he received water baptism,&#8221; the post went on. &#8220;Both the baptism and the licensing took place at the Historic Kelly Temple in NYC, a place close to his heart. Denzel Washington attended this church as a child and testified to being filled with the Holy Spirit after visiting another church with actor Robert Townsend in the 80&#8217;s.&#8221;
&#8220;Denzel Washington’s recent commitment to faith and service is truly inspiring,&#8221; Bryant wrote in a follow-up Facebook post. &#8220;His baptism and licensing to preach is the culmination of a life of faith.&#8221;
The actor had spoken about faith before. “If you don’t have a spiritual anchor you’ll be easily blown by the wind and you’ll be led to depression,” he said in 2021, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/im-a-god-fearing-man-denzel-washington-explains-his-christian-beliefs-to-new-york-times-dismisses-hollywood-focus-on-racial-diversity">reported</a>.

For only the second time in their 41-year marriage, Calvin and Trish Zastrow will be spending Thanksgiving apart. The first time was due to travel — this time it&#8217;s because Cal is serving a six-month prison sentence over a peaceful protest at a Tennessee abortion facility in 2021.
Zastrow was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-lifer-targeted-by-biden-admin-sentenced-to-prison" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> earlier this year on FACE Act-related charges brought by the Biden administration after he prayed, sang hymns, and sat in front of the door to the entrance of an abortion facility in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Calling from the Federal Correctional Institute Thomson in Illinois this week, Zastrow told The Daily Wire he was doing “absolutely fantastic.”
“I’m all on fire for Jesus,” he said. “I’m doing absolutely great, I’m on a big mission trip here.”
Over one month into his prison sentence, Zastrow said he has kept busy praying, reading his Bible, and teaching his fellow inmates about Christianity.
“There’s a whole lot of prodigals who are wallowing in pig mud, but they want to come back to Jesus, and so I’m here as a missionary to pull them out of that and help them get back on the Jesus road,” he said.
He said his friends and family have sent him over 50 books, mostly about Christian missionaries, and he has turned his cell into a sort of library. Zastrow said he’s been giving away a lot of copies in English and Spanish of the book &#8220;Tortured for Christ,&#8221; which is about Richard Wurmbrand, a pastor who spent years in a communist prison in Romania.
In a low-security section of the prison, Zastrow said he has seen few fights but has met a broad diversity of prisoners — from men convicted over January 6 to recruiters for ISIS and the Taliban.
He said that many of the January 6 prisoners are optimistic that they will get pardoned once President-elect Donald Trump takes office. He also referenced the discussion that Trump may pardon him, as the president-elect previously indicated that he would look at the cases of pro-lifers targeted by the Biden administration.
“I’m not getting my hopes up too high,” he said. “Plus I’m busy here. I’m busy. This prison holds almost 2,300 men and their need to hear about Jesus, their need for that is greater than my need for liberty. And so I’m here on a DOJ-sponsored mission trip.”
He said that most of the guards in the prison were unpleasant and would frequently “bark” and “scream” at the prisoners. “They can’t touch my joy, they can’t touch my soul, they can’t touch my attitude,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said he has been able to call his wife pretty much every day so far.
“We are very proud of our Cal,” Trish told The Daily Wire on Wednesday. “He’s in there ministering every day. He’s doing well. He isn’t backing down from things.”
Trish was able to visit her husband earlier this month, saying she was able to spend about four hours talking to him. Still, she said it has been tough to be away from him.
“We miss him around here,” she said, noting that they had a new grandson born on November 1. “I didn’t get to share it with Cal, he’s such a great grandpa.”
Zastrow gets 500 minutes a month to call people in 15-minute increments. Trish said her daughter put a special ringtone on her phone so she knows whenever he calls.
“One of the hardest things is I can’t just call and talk to him whenever I want,” she said. “I don’t want to ever miss a call.”
Zastrow is scheduled to be released from prison on April 8, but may be able to qualify for a few days of early release if he takes some classes. His family is eager to see him back, but say they are grateful for the opportunity he’s been given to share his faith.
“I feel very privileged to be his wife and I’m very proud of him for standing,” she said. “I’m excited to see what God does with all this.”

The 44-year-old reality show star shared a photo of herself dressed in her shapewear brand, SKIMS, to promote a collaboration with luxury brand Dolce &amp; Gabbana. In it, Kardashian is wearing a bra and underwear along with lace shorts.
The caption of her post read in part: &#8220;Dolce&amp;Gabbana and SKIMS unite to reveal curve-enhancing pieces for everyday confidence and unmatched sensuality.&#8221;
Followers took issue with the fact that the influencer is also wearing rosary beads around her neck.
