Veteran CNN international anchor Christiane Amanpour claimed that she believed Israeli hostages — released on Monday after just over two years in captivity under the control of Hamas terrorists — were likely treated better than Gazan civilians as Hamas and Israel waged war on each other.
Amanpour argued that the hostages, to Hamas militants, had more value than civilians did because they could be used as leverage in negotiations. She left out the fact that Hamas had killed a number of the hostages outright, leverage or not.

CNN Chief International Anchor <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/christiane-amanpour/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Christiane Amanpour</a> announced on Thursday that Iranian President <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/iranian-president-ebrahim-raisi-engages-in-holocaust-denial-cbs-news-lesley-stahl-does-not-push-back/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ebrahim Raisi</a> had scrapped a planned interview when she refused to put on a head scarf.
<a href="https://dailywire.com/news/top-jewish-group-calls-for-cnn-to-fire-amanpour-over-kristallnacht-remarks-demands-att-investigate/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amanpour</a> and her team had already put in hours of preparation, securing translators and lighting for what would have been Raisi&#8217;s first interview on American soil, when an aide for the president made it clear that unless Amanpour covered her head, he was going to walk away.
The veteran journalist explained the context — and the sequence of events that led up to the interview&#8217;s cancelation — in a brief Twitter thread.
&#8220;Protests are sweeping Iran &amp; women are burning their hijabs after the death last week of Mahsa Amini, following her arrest by the &#8216;morality police.&#8217; Human rights groups say at least 8 have been killed. Last night, I planned to ask President Raisi about all this and much more,&#8221; Amanpour began.
She noted that the interview had been planned to coincide with his visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly: &#8220;This was going to be President Raisi’s first ever interview on US soil, during his visit to NY for UNGA. After weeks of planning and eight hours of setting up translation equipment, lights and cameras, we were ready. But no sign of President Raisi.&#8221;

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) — America&#8217;s oldest pro-Israel organization — called on CNN to fire host Christiane Amanpour after she compared the Trump administration to Nazi Germany purging Jews during Kristallnacht.
&#8220;This was a new capstone to Amanpour’s long history of bias against Jews, Israel, and pro-Israel officials,&#8221; ZOA Chairman Mark Levenson and President Morton A. Klein <a href="https://zoa.org/2020/11/10441663-zoa-urges-cnn-parent-att-investigate-cnn-group-responsible-for-amanpours-nazi-trump-analogy-history-of-defamation/">said</a> in a statement released Wednesday. &#8220;Amanpour has just made matters worse with an insulting &#8216;non-apology.&#8217; CNN and its parent AT&amp;T Inc. need to act already.&#8221;
ZOA also called on CNN&#8217;s parent company, AT&amp;T, to launch an investigation into the matter and to fire everyone that was involved with producing the highly controversial segment.
&#8220;In addition to firing Amanpour, CNN and AT&amp;T need to investigate everyone involved in Amanpour’s slander and start letting guilty heads roll (figuratively). And we need real change in the policies that have resulted in CNN’s and Amanpour’s chronic distortions and defamation of supporters of the Jewish state,&#8221; the statement continued. &#8220;Anchors don’t operate in a vacuum. There are producers, writers, and a whole cooperate hierarchy involved in an anchor’s statements. Just this week, CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper acknowledged, on the front page of CNN’s website, that in addition to himself, &#8216;there are a number of writers on a program that write content&#8217; which Cooper then may edit or read verbatim.&#8221;
Amanpour ignited international outrage after she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-cnn-runs-segment-comparing-trump-to-nazis-purging-jews">said</a> the following last week:

It was the Nazis’ warning shot across the bow of our human civilization that led to genocide against a whole identity and in that tower of burning books, it led to an attack of fact, knowledge, history, and truth. After four years of a modern-day assault on those same values by Donald Trump, the Biden-Harris team pledges a return to norms, including the truth.</blockquote>
Political analysts said that her comments bordered on &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/borders-on-holocaust-denial-cnn-blasted-over-shocking-segment-comparing-trump-to-nazis-purging-jews">Holocaust denial</a>&#8221; and the nation of Israel <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/israel-demands-cnn-host-christiane-amanpour-apologize-for-belittling-holocaust-victims">demanded</a> that she apologize for her offensive comments.
After facing nearly a week of backlash, Amanpour issued an alleged apology, saying:

I observed the 82nd anniversary of Kristallnacht, as I often do – it is the event that began the horrors of the Holocaust. I also noted President Trump’s attacks on history, facts, knowledge, and truth. I should not have juxtaposed the two thoughts. Hitler and his evils stand alone, of course, in history. I regret any pain my statement may have caused. My point was to say how democracy can potentially slip away, and how we must always zealously guard our democratic values.</blockquote>
ZOA slammed Amanpour for what they said was a &#8220;non-apology&#8221; framed in a misleading way.
&#8220;She never even acknowledged that she slanderously equated and analogized Kristallnacht’s horrors to pro-Jewish, pro-Israel, pro-American President Donald Trump,&#8221; ZOA said. &#8220;Instead, Amanpour tried to rationalize her obviously deliberate defamatory remarks by claiming that she merely somehow, out of the blue, unintentionally &#8216;juxtaposed two thoughts.'&#8221;
ZOA&#8217;s statement continued by highlighting other examples of Amanpour&#8217;s &#8220;anti-Jewish, anti-Israel (and anti-Christian) bias and falsehoods&#8221;:

Employing the memory of the Holocaust for cheap shock value and to further a political agenda is a deeply troubling and offensive spin of historic and moral truths with dangerous implications.”
The Times of Israel also noted that Israel’s consul-general to Atlanta, Anat Sultan-Dadon, wrote a letter to Richard Davis, CNN’s executive vice president of News Standards and Practices, over the segment.

‘I Regret Any Pain’: Christiane Amanpour Apologizes For Comparing Trump Era To Kristallnacht

Israeli officials are demanding that CNN apologize for widely condemned remarks that host Christiane Amanpour made last week which they said amounted to &#8220;belittling&#8221; Holocaust victims.
&#8220;Diaspora Affairs Minister Omer Yankelevich sent a letter to CNN president Jeffrey Zucker on Sunday urging that Amanpour issue an &#8216;immediate and public apology&#8217; for the &#8216;unacceptable comparison&#8217; she made,&#8221; The Times of Israel reported.
Amanpour compared the Trump administration to Kristallnacht, a horrifying event that took place in November 1938 when Nazis &#8220;torched synagogues, vandalized Jewish homes, schools and businesses and killed close to 100 Jews,&#8221; according to <a href="https://www.history.com/topics/holocaust/kristallnacht">History.com</a>.
“It was the Nazis’ warning shot across the bow of our human civilization that led to genocide against a whole identity and in that tower of burning books, it led to an attack of fact, knowledge, history, and truth,” Amanpour <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-cnn-runs-segment-comparing-trump-to-nazis-purging-jews">said</a>. “After four years of a modern-day assault on those same values by Donald Trump, the Biden-Harris team pledges a return to norms, including the truth.”
Yankelevich noted in her letter that Kristallnacht is widely recognized as a “central starting point of the Holocaust.”
“We find hereby the false equivalence made between the actions of a sitting US president and the atrocities of the Kristallnacht pogroms which were carried out by the Nazis eighty-two years ago belittling of the immense tragedy of the Holocaust,” Yankelevich wrote. “Distortion and minimization of the Holocaust are deplorable lies that only encourage the evil voices of anti-Semitism. Employing the memory of the Holocaust for cheap shock value and to further a political agenda is a deeply troubling and offensive spin of historic and moral truths with dangerous implications.”
The Times of Israel also noted that Israel’s consul-general to Atlanta, Anat Sultan-Dadon, wrote a letter to Richard Davis, CNN’s executive vice president of News Standards and Practices, over the segment.

In the aftermath of Kristallnacht, also called the “Night of Broken Glass,” some 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and sent to Nazi concentration camps. German Jews had been subjected to repressive policies since 1933, when Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler (1889-1945) became chancellor of Germany. However, prior to Kristallnacht, these Nazi policies had been primarily nonviolent. After Kristallnacht, conditions for German Jews grew increasingly worse. During World War II (1939-45), Hitler and the Nazis implemented their so-called “Final Solution” to the what they referred to as the “Jewish problem,” and carried out the systematic murder of some 6 million European Jews in what came to be known as the Holocaust.

In the fall of 1938, Herschel Grynszpan (1921-45), a 17-year-old ethnically Polish Jew who had been living in France for several years, learned that the Nazis had exiled his parents to Poland from Hanover, Germany, where Herschel had been born and his family had lived for years. As retaliation, on November 7, 1938, the agitated teenager shot Ernst vom Rath (1909-38), a German diplomat in Paris. Rath died two days later from his wounds, and Hitler attended his funeral. <a href="https://www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii/joseph-goebbels">Joseph Goebbels</a> (1897-1945), the Nazi minister for public enlightenment and propaganda, immediately seized on the assassination to rile Hitler’s supporters into an anti-Semitic frenzy.
Kristallnacht was the result of that rage. Starting in the late hours of November 9 and continuing into the next day, Nazi mobs torched or otherwise vandalized hundreds of synagogues throughout Germany and damaged, if not completely destroyed, thousands of Jewish homes, schools, businesses, hospitals and cemeteries. Nearly 100 Jews were murdered during the violence. Nazi officials ordered German police officers and firemen to do nothing as the riots raged and buildings burned, although firefighters were allowed to extinguish blazes that threatened Aryan-owned property.
In the immediate aftermath of Kristallnacht, the streets of Jewish communities were littered with broken glass from vandalized buildings, giving rise to the name Night of Broken Glass. The Nazis held the German-Jewish community responsible for the damage and imposed a collective fine of $400 million (in 1938 rates), according to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Additionally, more than 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and sent to the <a href="https://www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii/dachau">Dachau</a>, Buchenwald and Sachsenhausen concentration camps in Germany–camps that were specifically constructed to hold Jews, political prisoners and other perceived enemies of the Nazi state.</blockquote>

One of the few Hollywood conservatives, Kelsey Grammer of TV&#8217;s &#8220;Frasier,&#8221; is singing President Trump&#8217;s praises for doing more in 60 years than all of the &#8220;Washington clowns&#8221; that have been his detractors.
According to <a href="https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/kristine-marsh/2019/05/15/kelsey-grammer-praises-trump-washington-clowns-didnt-do-us-any">Newsbusters</a>, Grammer sat down with Christiane Amanpour on the PBS show &#8220;Amanpour and Company&#8221; on Tuesday night. First, the host asked if his outspoken conservatism has been costly to him in any way in such a left-wing bastion like Hollywood.
&#8220;Can I ask you, Kelsey, because we were talking obviously about today&#8217;s politics and it&#8217;s very divisive, very partisan, whether it&#8217;s in the United States, whether it&#8217;s here,&#8221; Amanpour began. &#8220;You are one of those rare Hollywood beasts who is conservative, and you voted for Donald Trump. And I just wonder, what, whether you sort of took any hits in Hollywood for that? Did you feel that you were sort of marginalized?&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m not aware of taking a hit for it but now, certainly passions run high, and certainly he has touched on an extraordinarily passionate response,&#8221; Grammer said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s as serious or horrible as everybody wants it to be.&#8221;
As the interview continued, Amanpour pressed Grammer on if he feels President Trump has &#8220;disrupted&#8221; the social fabric. Grammer said that the disruption is quite a good thing, adding that Washington has done little for people in the past 50 or even 60 years.

AMANPOUR: I was wondering whether you thought the sort of, many people believe this sort of fabric is being disrupted.
GRAMMER: Well I think fabric being disrupted is a good thing.
AMANPOUR: You do?
GRAMMER: Oh yeah. I don&#8217;t think Washington didn&#8217;t do us any favors for the last 50, 60 years, I think they&#8217;ve all been sort of the same party, the same bunch of clowns, the same bunch of really unpleasant people.
AMANPOUR: It&#8217;s politics.
GRAMMER: And I don&#8217;t think they&#8217;ve been helping anybody but themselves.

Amanpour asked Grammer how people can reconcile amid such divisions, citing both Brexit and President Trump. Grammer said people will recover just fine because they have been through much worse.

Kelsey Grammer is not the only Hollywood conservative to praise Trump for shaking up the pot and getting things done &#8211; a draining of the swamp, so to speak. In an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/35817/tim-allen-trump-maybe-it-took-type-guy-get-stuff-paul-bois">interview</a> with Entertainment Weekly last year, actor Tim Allen said that it took a special kind of person like Trump to &#8220;get things done.&#8221;
&#8220;The theater of this is fascinating,&#8221; Allen said. &#8220;He doesn&#8217;t do it very attractively but you don&#8217;t even realize the economy is doing better. Is it? There&#8217;s so much drama. Maybe it took this type of guy to get stuff done because it was so stuck in the mud. I&#8217;m just watching the theater of it and trying to keep my personal opinions out of it. What difference does it make whether I like him?&#8221;

Comedian Jon Stewart was interviewed by CNN&#8217;s Christiane Amanpour Tuesday night, and the former &#8220;Daily Show&#8221; host absolutely nailed today&#8217;s political journalists in a way no one else has.
Amanpour asked Stewart about the constant focus on President Donald Trump by the media, and the following exchange occurred:

AMANPOUR: So, do you think &#8211; because, obviously, we are all caught up in this sort of daily Trump fest. I mean, every single newspaper, every radio station, every bit of social media &#8211;
STEWART: You got to make money, too.
AMANPOUR: Well, it&#8217;s dissecting &#8211;
STEWART: You have bills to pay, man. You got electric bills, you got food. You know, this guy is &#8211; he&#8217;s giving you all cash. The cash flow in the Trump era for these TV stations and for these news &#8211;
AMANPOUR: Can I say, that might have been an issue and maybe it still is an issue for the people who are the bean counters.
STEWART: Yes.
AMANPOUR: But we the journalists, we, I think, believe that our job is to navigate the truth and to do the fact checking and all the rest of it. So, I think that&#8217;s what most &#8211;
STEWART: But I think the journalists have taken it personal.
AMANPOUR: Ok. That&#8217;s interesting.

After blowing the lid on the media&#8217;s obsession with Trump (it&#8217;s all about the money), Stewart goes in for the kill shot:

They are personally wounded and offended by this man. He baits them. And they dive in. And what he&#8217;s done well, I thought, is appeal to their own narcissism, to their own ego. Because what he says is these are the &#8211; and the journalists stand up and say, &#8216;We are noble. We are honorable. How dare you, sir?&#8217; And they take it personally and now he has changed the conversation to not that his policies are silly or not working or any of those other things, it&#8217;s all about the fight. He is able to tune out everything else and get people just focused on the fight. And he&#8217;s going to win that fight.
</blockquote>
Amanpour then responds in a way that exactly proves Stewart&#8217;s point:
<blockquote>
You know, even Bob Woodward said that, in his book on the Trump White House, that a lot of journalists are too emotional about this. But it&#8217;s hard for us to be dispassionate when words from the White House are aggressive against us and, you know, raise the spectrum of violence against us.
</blockquote>
When confronted with the truth, Amanpour shows that journalists today take Trump&#8217;s words personally and indulges her ego. There is no increased risk for journalists in this country. The shooting in Baltimore was a local beef. The &#8220;explosive&#8221; devices addressed to former government employees who are now media outlet contributors weren&#8217;t designed to work and were sent by a crazy person. The journalists that have been physically attacked while reporting have been attacked by the leftist group Antifa.
But we must all remember poor Jim Acosta, getting the finger at a campaign rally.

&#8220;The Daily Show&#8221; host Trevor Noah claims it is a &#8220;false equivalency&#8221; and &#8220;absolute madness&#8221; to compare satire aimed at President Trump to his predecessor Barack Obama. 
In an interview with Christiane Amanpour on Thursday, the CNN anchor asked: &#8220;How different is it whaling on him compared to whaling on Donald Trump?&#8221;
Noah replied, &#8220;Oh, I mean, to try and compare the two would be not just false equivalency, but absolute madness. Anyone who tries to compare them has to admit that they&#8217;re being crazy.&#8221;
While it is true that Obama and Trump are vastly different in their policy, the idea that this somehow changes how comedy works is nothing more than Noah echoing the Leftist talking points that Democrats are off-limits while it is open season on Republicans.
Amanpour immediately backtracked. &#8220;I&#8217;m not,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I&#8217;m just saying how different is it as a comedian.&#8221;
Noah answered, stammering, &#8220;Oh, wow! It cannot be more, a pair like &#8212; one is ripe for comedy. One is, for instance, Donald Trump has left no contradiction unturned. That&#8217;s his thing. Donald Trump is a gift to every level of comedy. If you want to apply comedy or satire at the lowest level, Donald Trump is ripe for that. You don&#8217;t have to dig deeper. But if you do dig deeper, you will get more from him as well.&#8221;
On the other hand, &#8220;Obama was, like many politicians, a water table that is very far beneath the surface. So, to get to the right joke and the right piece of satire that would really illuminate what Obama was doing, you had to dig through so many layers and work through the weeds to get to the water table of jokes.&#8221;
Noah added, &#8220;Donald Trump has water on the surface. And the deeper you dig, the more water you find. So, I think that&#8217;s the difference between them. It&#8217;s just there is more.&#8221;
Noah, claiming that Obama was scandal-free and therefore harder to satirize, is simply untrue. The Daily Wire has reported on at least 11 major <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/24839/watch-joe-biden-falsely-claims-obama-never-had-any-ryan-saavedra?utm_source=facebook&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_content=062316-news&amp;utm_campaign=dwbrand">scandals</a> during his administration. 
A comedian should be allowed to mock and satirize any politician at their leisure, but claiming that there was some sort of balance between how left-wing celebrities mocked Trump and Obama is just not true. 
Earlier in the interview, Amanpour geared Noah up by trying to establish his credit as an equal opportunity comedian. 
&#8220;You didn&#8217;t spare President Obama, the satirical side of your tongue,&#8221; she claimed. 
A simple internet search shows that, while Noah did poke fun at Obama on occasion, most of his jokes were geared toward mocking the former president&#8217;s critics.

In a Monday segment examining the impact of Islamic terrorism on French voters’ political calculus, CNN’s Chris Cuomo described contemporary jihadist murders as “flurries of terrorist activity”.
Speaking with his colleague Christiane Amanpour, Cuomom was seemingly inquiring about <a href="http://www.france24.com/en/20170421-champs-elysees-attack-what-we-know">last week’s Islamic terrorist attack</a> in Paris, France, and its impact on yesterday&#8217;s French election:
<blockquote>“It was interesting that this first set of numbers seemed to reflect that those flurries of terrorist activity last week seemed to send a flight to a calmer head. Could’ve cut either way, right? It could’ve made people even more afraid [and] want something even more extreme.”</blockquote>
Amanpour’s response seemed to imply that Islamic terrorist attacks in large European cities amounted to a new normal across the continent. She also attempted to distinguish Islamic terrorism originating among European residents – which she described as “gangster neighborhood terrorism” – from those directed by ISIS abroad (emphasis added):

This man in France was known to the authorities, he was known to the authorities, he had threatened police before, and clearly people in France took it for what it was: scary, something that has to be sorted out, but it wasn’t a terrorist attack that affected the vote.&#8221;</blockquote>
<a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3801018/Terror-attacks-parcel-living-big-city-claims-London-mayor-Sadiq-Khan.html">Last September</a>, London&#8217;s mayor Sadiq Khan echoed Amanpour&#8217;s suggestion that Islamic terrorism amounted to a new normal across large Western cities, describing such attacks as &#8220;part and parcel of living in a big city.&#8221;
Opposition to the European Union was described by Amanpour as an “anti-Europe” position; she and other left-wing news media figures regularly use the terms “Europe” and “European Union” interchangeably.
Speaking on behalf of Europe, Amanpour said the continent wished to see Le Pen defeated.
Earlier in the segment, Amanpour described France’s National Front and its leader Marine Le Pen as “very, very far right, extreme right,” adding that it held a “barely concealed racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, anti-immigration” platform.
Amanpour seemed to draw from comments made by Hillary Clinton <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8rG1H2ZfAk">last September</a>, in which the former first lady described a plurality of then Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s supporters as generalized bigots: “They’re racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it.”
Amanpour and Cuomo both suggested a connection between the alleged bigotry of Le Pen and her supporters with the politics of Trump and his supporters.

Weeks after last year&#8217;s presidential election, Amanpour <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/news/11062/amanpour-calls-media-jihad-against-trump-robert-kraychik">called for the news media to unify</a> in its opposition of the Trump administration.
Amanpour presents herself as a politically objective and non-partisan news media figure. CNN likewise presents itself as a politically-objective and non-partisan news media outlet, billing itself as &#8220;The Most Trusted Name In News.&#8221;

CNN&#8217;s Christiane Amanpour called for left-wing press unity in opposition to President-elect Donald Trump during the 2016 International Press Freedom Awards on Wednesday.

Accepting an award acknowledging her ostensible contributions to &#8220;press freedom,&#8221; Amanpour issued her call to arms via a prepared speech.

Amanpour began with alarmism, framing Trump as a dictator-in-progress:

&#8220;I never thought in a million years that I would be standing up here after all the times I participated in this ceremony, appealing really, for the freedom and the safety of American journalists at home&#8230; Those bits from Donald Trump that were in that video basically show us and remind us of the peril that we face&#8230;

As you&#8217;ve seen tonight, that is how it goes with authoritarians around the world, like Sisi, like Erdogan, like Putin, like the Ayatollahs, like Duterte in the Philippines, and all of those people&#8230;. First, the media is accused of inciting, then sympathizing, then associating, and then suddenly they find themselves accused of being full-fledged terrorists and subversives, and then they end up in handcuffs, in cages, in kangaroo courts, in prisons, and then who knows what?&#8221;

The news media, said Amanpour, must be vigilant and unified in defending its pretense of integrity while opposing Trump. A &#8220;safe and free press,&#8221; she inadvertently implied, was predicated on ideological uniformity among its reporters, journalists, and pundits:

&#8220;Don&#8217;t stand for being called or labeled &#8216;lying&#8217; or &#8216;crooked&#8217; or &#8216;failing.&#8217; We have to stand up together, because divided we will fall.&#8221;

Amanpour also inadvertently acknowledged the left-wing and partisan Democrat biases of most English-language news media, describing the industry as having been defeated by Trump. She also lamented the rise of digital platforms facilitating the free transmission of information in the absence of journalistic curation and filtering:

&#8220;We have to accept that we have had our lunch handed to us by the very same social media that we have so slavishly been devoted to. The winning candidate did a very savvy end run around us and used it to go straight to the people. According to Amanpour, the very news media she claims was defeated by Trump was simultaneously too tough on Hillary Clinton during the election season:

Amanpour lamented what she described as the news media&#8217;s tradition of commitment to partisan balance. The American media landscape, she said, was plagued by an excessive commitmed to non-partisanship (a false perception <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/news/2512/politicos-media-reporter-objective-journalism-robert-kraychik">shared</a> by left-wing Politico&#8217;s Hadas Gold):

Amanpour fretted over the diminishing power of left-wing and Democrat-aligned news media in controlling the dissemination of information and over shaping public opinion:

&#8220;So I feel that right now we face an existential crisis. A real threat to the very relevance and usefulness of our profession. Now, more than ever, I genuinely believe that we need to recommit to real reporting across a real nation and a real world in which journalism and democracy are in mortal peril.

Never equate victim and aggressor. Never create a false moral or factual equivalence. Because then, if you do, particularly in situations like that, you are party and accomplice to the most unspeakable crimes and consequences.

So I believe in being truthful, not neutral. And I believe we must stop banalizing the truth. We have to be prepared to fight, especially hard, right now, for the truth, because this is a world where the Oxford English dictionary just last week announced its word for 2016, and that is, &#8216;post-truth&#8217;.&#8221;

Amanpour attempted to co-opt &#8220;American values,&#8221; describing them as neither &#8220;left&#8221; or &#8220;right.&#8221; All Americans, claimed Amanpour, subscribed to values she refused to articulate:

&#8220;Since when were American values elitist values? They&#8217;re not left, they&#8217;re not right. They&#8217;re not rich, they&#8217;re not poor values. They&#8217;re not the forgotten man values. Like many foreigners, I have learned that they are universal. They are the values of every American from the humblest to the most exalted.&#8221;
</blockquote>
Amanpour claimed to be &#8220;shocked&#8221; that &#8220;so many Americans&#8221; would vote for Trump, who she described as the antithesis of &#8220;American values:&#8221;

&#8220;Like very many people around the world who were watching this incredible election, I was shocked because very few ever imagined that so many Americans conducting their sacred duty in the secret ballot box using their ballot would be so angry as to ignore the wholesale denigration of these values: the vulgarity of language, the sexual predatory behavior, the deep misogyny, the bigoted and insulting views.&#8221;

Democrat efforts at the FEC to restrict the breadth of press exemptions extended for political messaging;
</li>
<li>
Left-wing and Democrat pushes for the Fairness Doctrine to empower the federal government to control political commentary on radio and television.

President Barack Obama&#8217;s call for a governmental directory of news media outlets its deems illegitimate.
</li>
