As Democrats attempted to turn the first night of the Democratic National Convention into a loving farewell for President Joe Biden, CNN anchor Chris Wallace reminded viewers why the president was giving a speech on Vice President Kamala Harris&#8217; nomination instead of accepting his own.
Biden gave the keynote address on Monday night, addressing a crowd that held up &#8220;We (heart) Joe&#8221; signs. Throughout his speech, Biden was interrupted by chants of &#8220;We love Joe.&#8221; The show of appreciation for the 81-year-old commander-in-chief didn&#8217;t impress Wallace, however, who told CNN viewers that Biden &#8220;was basically forced out&#8221; by fellow Democrats.
&#8220;The word that everybody is using to describe tonight is &#8216;bittersweet.&#8217; It&#8217;s just bitter,&#8221; Wallace said. &#8220;The fact of the matter, I&#8217;m not saying Joe Biden is bitter, but, you know, it&#8217;s like you&#8217;ve been thrown out a window, and as you&#8217;re falling, you go &#8216;Gee, it&#8217;s nice out here.'&#8221;

Actress and activist Jane Fonda couldn&#8217;t seem to settle on one definite answer during her recent interview with former &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; host Chris Wallace, waffling when he pressed her about her now infamous 1972 visit to Vietnam.
Fonda, 85, <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/entertainment/cnns-chris-wallace-grills-jane-fonda-over-hanoi-jane-incident-during-vietnam-war/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joined the veteran broadcaster</a> for his weekly interview-based show &#8220;Who&#8217;s Talking to Chris Wallace?&#8221; — and while the two discussed a broad range of topics, Wallace asked several questions about the trip that earned the actress the moniker &#8220;Hanoi Jane.&#8221;
&#8220;Your most famous protest was 50 years ago when you went to North Vietnam at the height of the war there. And you were photographed sitting on an anti-aircraft gun,&#8221; <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/jane-fonda-hanoi-jane-photo-chris-wallace/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wallace began</a>, adding, &#8220;Critics, and there were millions of them, called you a Hanoi Jane and said you were a traitor. And the question I have is 50 years later, how do you look back on that particular chapter?&#8221;
&#8220;It was a terrible mistake. I mean, the reality is, there were 24,000 American troops on the ground in South Vietnam. That’s all the ground troops were going home. The war was being fought by the air during during the Nixon administration,&#8221; Fonda replied, saying that she had spent years talking to American soldiers who felt that the war had been &#8220;wrong&#8221; and that Americans were not wanted there.
&#8220;They realized that the war was wrong, that we weren’t wanted there. And that we probably couldn’t win it, not because they weren’t a(sic) fabulous soldiers. But because of the nature of Vietnam,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;So when you say it was a terrible mistake &#8230;&#8221; Wallace prompted again.
&#8220;It was a mistake to go, I never wanted to go to any military installations. It was the last day of my two week time there. And I was like a limp noodle, what I had experienced and what I had seen, I just I wasn’t able to resist, they said we’re gonna take you out here today,&#8221; Fonda continued.
Fonda went on to say that the photos showing her smiling were taken after someone had sung a song that made her laugh, not because she was mocking the situation.
&#8220;And you know, maybe I was set up, but I was an adult, it’s I’m gonna take responsibility for it,&#8221; she said. &#8220;If I was Vietnamese, I probably would have tried to do the same thing, you know, but I should not have gone.&#8221;
The &#8220;80 for Brady&#8221; actress pointed out the fact that she had not been the first or only one to visit North Vietnam — she had just been the only movie star, and she had made the choice to go because she hoped it would draw more attention.
&#8220;And that’s what it did,&#8221; she said. &#8220;So I feel that, well if what I did was good, except that I shouldn’t have gone out to a military place.&#8221;
&#8220;When you got that nickname Hanoi Jane, how did you feel at the time?&#8221; Wallace pressed again.
Fonda admitted that she had not liked hearing that name, but that she stood by her decision to protest the war.
&#8220;When you know why you did something, and you’re willing to admit the mistakes that you made, but stand up for the things that you did that that mattered? You’re gonna come through it, okay,&#8221; she explained to Wallace. &#8220;And I refused to have them scare me away from being actively against the Vietnam War. And, you know, I think they thought, oh, she’s this white privilege rich, famous daughter of all of that stuff. You know, we can we can scare her, and boy did they try? And the more they tried, the more I —&#8221;
&#8220;The more you what?&#8221; Wallace asked.
&#8220;I dug in my heels,&#8221; she said.

Wallace <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/entertainment/are-you-interested-cnns-chris-wallace-has-a-moment-when-jane-fonda-asks-are-you-married/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spoke with Fonda</a> for the latest episode of his HBOMax interview series, &#8220;<a href="https://www.hbomax.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GYyjGGgyuCoOEtAEAAAGQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Who&#8217;s Talking to Chris Wallace?</a>&#8221; — and the conversation turned to Fonda&#8217;s personal distaste for the constant barrage of small talk that came part-and-parcel with cocktail parties.
&#8220;I hate parties. I hate cocktail parties. I always end up finding one person that is interesting and sitting in a corner all night. Do you do that?&#8221; the 85-year-old &#8220;80 For Brady&#8221; actress asked Wallace.
&#8220;I, yeah, I know what you’re saying,&#8221; Wallace agreed.
&#8220;Because I’m shy, basically. Which, you know, just small talk. I don’t. I can’t do it. Isn’t that boring?&#8221; Fonda continued, turning the question back on Wallace again and asking, &#8220;Are you married?&#8221;
&#8220;Yes. Are you interested?&#8221; Wallace shot back, prompting laughter.
Fonda quickly explained that she had only asked because she thought maybe in the future she should invite Wallace to attend parties with her, thereby ensuring that she would always have someone interesting to talk to.
&#8220;No, I just — I just thought I should invite you to parties so that the two of us can just go into a corner …&#8221; she began.
&#8220;I would love that,&#8221; Wallace replied.
&#8220;… and talk. And I don’t have to deal with the rest of it,&#8221; Fonda concluded with a smile.
The octogenarian <a href="https://people.com/movies/jane-fonda-recalls-powerful-closure-she-had-with-dad-henry-before-his-death-exclusive/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also revealed</a> a touching moment shared with her often-abrasive father, actor Henry Fonda, before he died in 1982 — telling Wallace that it was the only time she had ever seen her father weep.
&#8220;Before he died I was able to tell him that I loved him and that I forgave him for, you know, whatever didn&#8217;t happen. And I hope that he would forgive me for not being a better daughter. I got to say that to him,&#8221; she said. &#8220;He didn&#8217;t say anything. But he wept. I had never seen that before. I&#8217;d never seen my father break down and weep. And I — it was, it was powerful.&#8221;

&#8220;We have an average of less than six crimes a day on a subway system with 3.5 million riders. But if you write your story based on a narrative, then you’re going to look at the worst of those six crimes and put it on the front pages of your paper every day,&#8221; Adams began, first blaming media for creating a narrative that made his city look more dangerous. &#8220;So I have to deal with those six crimes a day, felony crimes, and the perception of fear.&#8221;
Adams went on to say that his team had successfully decreased gun violence in the city, claiming that officials had taken &#8220;over 5,700 guns&#8221; off the streets and made a number of arrests on gun crimes.
&#8220;We are attacking the problem exactly the way I stated,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;You’re saying that the crime problem in this city is more perception than reality?&#8221; Wallace asked.
&#8220;No, it’s a combination of both. New Yorkers must be safe,&#8221; Adams replied.
&#8220;But Mayor, the New York City crime statistics are that year to date, crime in the subways is up 41% over the same period last year, and serious crime, major felonies, are up even more than that,&#8221; Wallace pushed back. &#8220;That’s not perception. That’s reality.&#8221;
&#8220;If you do an analysis of the six major cities in America, the crime waves is tackling all of our cities. New York City is the safest,&#8221; Adams insisted. &#8220;So yes, we have a real crime problem that we’re addressing. But part of that is the perception that every day, those six crimes are being highlighted over and over again.&#8221;
Adams continued to reference the &#8220;six crimes&#8221; he said were occurring daily within the city&#8217;s subway system but did not mention that crime had been ticking upward outside of the public transit system as well. The New York Police Department released <a href="https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nypd/news/p00056/nypd-citywide-crime-statistics-july-2022" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crime statistics</a> in July of 2022 and determined that the city&#8217;s overall crime rate was up 30.5% year-over-year. Additionally, shooting incidents were up 13.4%, and murders were up 34.3%.

Maher also pressed the former New Jersey Governor on the possibility of another run for the presidency in 2024 — which Christie said he was certainly considering.

Wallace scored just 401,000 total viewers during his show, which aired in the 7 p.m. ET hour.
In comparison, the former South Carolina Congressman hosted &#8220;Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy&#8221; — and pulled in more than triple Wallace&#8217;s total viewers with over 1.3 million. He also nearly doubled Wallace&#8217;s number in the key demographic, racking up 78,000 viewers aged 25-54.

Newly-announced &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; anchor Shannon Bream took to Twitter to celebrate her most recent career move — and she shared a dose of humility that helped to get her to where she is today.
The network announced on Thursday that Bream would be the <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/shannon-bream-lands-permanent-fox-news-sunday-gig/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">permanent replacement</a> for the former longtime &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; host, Chris Wallace, who left the show and the network last December for a contract with the short-lived streaming service CNN+. Bream, who has often shared her faith both on the air and on social media, revealed how she believed God had brought her to the right place at the right time for this new opportunity.
&#8220;Y&#8217;all, I got fired from my first tv job, by a man who told me I was the worst person he&#8217;d ever seen on tv. He also told me I&#8217;d never make it in this business. I was humiliated. I cried &#8230; a lot. I prayed &#8230; a lot. Fox News host Shannon Bream landed a <a href="https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/shannon-bream-fox-news-sunday-1235338968/">permanent gig</a> hosting the long-running &#8220;Fox News Sunday,&#8221; the network announced on Thursday.
Bream is one of several hosts who &#8220;tried out&#8221; for the role in the months since longtime former host Chris Wallace quit last December, leaving the network for a gig on CNN&#8217;s short-lived streaming service, CNN+.
Bream will be the first female to be named as a permanent host on the Sunday morning show, which has been a flagship for the network for nearly three decades. Wallace hosted the show for 18 years.
&#8220;It has been an honor to cover major news throughout Washington over the last 15 years at Fox News. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to host a Sunday show and look forward to this new role,&#8221; Bream said in a statement.
Her colleagues quickly showed their support, saying that they expected her to do great things in her new role.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/cnn">CNN</a> is now down to just over 500,000 average prime time viewers, while <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/fox-news">Fox News</a> continues to dominate, new ratings figures released Wednesday show.
The liberal network, which presents itself as &#8220;facts first,&#8221; has routinely struggled with viewership. In April, the network&#8217;s much-hyped streaming service CNN+ was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/yikes-shuttering-cnn-host-chris-wallace-pushes-producer-to-make-project-on-his-trump-interviews-during-show">shuttered</a> mere weeks after its start, due to its failure to bring in new viewers.
CNN is averaging 517,000 total viewers across its prime time programming, a <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/daily-ratings/cable-news-ratings-wednesday-june-8-cnn-down-to-just-over-500000-average-prime-time-viewers/">report</a> from Mediaite said.
Fox News, a right-leaning competitor, brought in nearly five times CNN&#8217;s numbers, averaging 2.57 million viewers across prime time.
Liberal <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/msnbc">MSNBC</a> crushed CNN, too, more than doubling the network with an average of 1.18 million total prime time viewers.
&#8220;&#8216;Anderson Cooper 360,&#8217; which was guest hosted by John Berman, led CNN on Wednesday with 637,000 total viewers at 8 p.m.,&#8221; the Mediaite report outlined, noting that &#8220;Tucker Carlson led the time slot with 3.14 million total viewers, while Chris Hayes landed in second place with 1.21 million total viewers.&#8221;
Among the overall domination of Fox News is host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/greg-gutfeld">Greg Gutfeld</a>.
As <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/greg-gutfeld-levels-stephen-colbert-for-mocking-fox-news-after-christmas-tree-arson">reported</a> in December, “Gutfeld!” — a rebrand of the “The Greg Gutfeld Show” — is about a year old, and still building. The success of the show has shocked elites in the media, begrudgingly <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/bill-maher-greg-gutfeld-king-of-late-night">earning</a> Gutfeld “the king of late night” title. Fox’s “Gutfeld!” routinely <a href="https://pagesix.com/2021/10/07/fox-news-greg-gutfeld-climbs-to-no-2-in-late-night-tv-wars/">beats out</a> late night shows hosted by left-leaning Jimmy Kimmel on ABC and Jimmy Fallon on NBC, and <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/gutfeld-ratings-win-colbert/">stomped</a> Stephen Colbert’s ratings for the first time in August.
Fox News had already been handily outpacing its competitors in ratings. Forbes <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/markjoyella/2021/12/01/fox-news-easily-wins-november-cable-news-ratings-as-all-networks-see-steep-declines/?sh=379df5e22f14">outlined</a> Fox News&#8217; ratings bloodbath for November.
&#8220;The Fox News Channel prevailed in the November cable news ratings, easily beating back the competition from CNN and MSNBC. According to ratings data compiled by Nielsen, Fox News delivered an average prime time audience of 2.578 million viewers in November, followed by MSNBC (1.091 million total viewers) and CNN (654,000 viewers),&#8221; the outlet reported. &#8220;In the key demo of adults 25-54 — the demographic most valued by advertisers – Fox finished first with an average audience of 420,000 viewers. CNN was second (148,000 viewers) and MSNBC (140,000 viewers).&#8221;
And a notable loser from the Fox News domination is newsman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/yikes-shuttering-cnn-host-chris-wallace-pushes-producer-to-make-project-on-his-trump-interviews-during-show">Chris Wallace</a>, who jumped ship to join CNN+ just weeks before Warner Bros. Discovery <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/warner-bros-discovery-is-shutting-down-cnn-after-new-streaming-service-struggled-to-attract-viewers-report">announced</a> that the subscription streaming service would be scrapped.
The shutdown left Wallace a “victim,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ive-been-a-victim-chris-wallace-says-hes-in-good-shape-despite-cnn-implosion">claimed</a>.
“It’s an interesting thing and I’ve been a victim of all of this in the last week,” Wallace said.
“The idea was you’ve got to get a foothold in the streaming world because that’s where the future of news off the mainstream networks is going to be,” the 74-year-old continued. “Now you have some equally smart people that have come in with a diametrically opposed view, these are the new bosses at CNN+ because of [the Warner Bros. Discovery merger] who have come to the conclusion that to have a narrow niche product like a news streaming service doesn’t work.”
“I have absolutely no idea which is right and wrong, but the Discovery people are in charge and so they made the decision,” he added.

Former &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; anchor Chris Wallace has reportedly landed on his feet — and back in the anchor chair — after the network&#8217;s fledgling streaming service CNN+ failed to launch.
According to a report published Wednesday by <a href="https://www.axios.com/2022/05/18/chris-wallace-new-show-cnn">Axios</a>, Wallace is set to anchor a Sunday evening show on CNN. Two sources reportedly informed the outlet that Wallace, who was hosting an interview-based show four days a week prior to the rapid collapse of CNN+, will move back to a weekly show with the cable news giant. The report did not indicate what the format of Wallace&#8217;s new show would be.
Wallace initially <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/i-want-to-try-something-new-chris-wallace-is-leaving-fox-news-sunday-effective-immediately/">left Fox</a> in December, saying that he wanted to try something new after nearly two decades at that network.

Wallace later claimed that he had <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/unsustainable-chris-wallace-reveals-why-he-had-to-leave-fox-news/">ultimately decided</a> to leave Fox after the fallout from the 202o election, telling the New York Times, &#8220;I’m fine with opinion: conservative opinion, liberal opinion. But when people start to question the truth — Who won the 2020 election? Was Jan. 6 an insurrection? — I found that unsustainable. I spent a lot of 2021 looking to see if there was a different place for me to do my job.&#8221;
&#8220;Before, I found it was an environment in which I could do my job and feel good about my involvement at Fox,&#8221; Wallace continued. &#8220;And since November of 2020, that just became unsustainable, increasingly unsustainable as time went on.&#8221;
Within days after announcing his exit from Fox, Wallace had confirmed he was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ive-been-a-victim-chris-wallace-says-hes-in-good-shape-despite-cnn-implosion">going to CNN</a>, inking a multimillion-dollar deal to create a new show for the streaming service that had not yet launched.
But massive personnel shake-ups at CNN — up to and including the sudden resignation of former network chief Jeff Zucker and his paramour Allison Gollust — left the network in disarray heading into both the CNN+ launch and a planned merger with Warner Bros. Discovery.

CNN+ host Chris Wallace pressed a Hollywood producer to create a project about his interviews with former President Donald Trump during an uncomfortable exchange on his show, &#8220;Who&#8217;s Talking to Chris Wallace.&#8221;
Notably, Warner Bros. Discovery <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/warner-bros-discovery-is-shutting-down-cnn-after-new-streaming-service-struggled-to-attract-viewers-report">announced</a> last week that subscription streaming service CNN+ would be scrapped &#8212; leaving Wallace, who exited an 18-year career at Fox News for CNN, in a particularly bad spot.
&#8220;So, I have to ask a question,&#8221; Wallace <a href="https://newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/nicholas-fondacaro/2022/04/28/chris-wallace-embarrassingly-begs-movie-about-his-trump">asked</a> his guest, Hollywood producer Brian Grazer. &#8220;When we got to know each other a little better, you said to me one time that you thought there was a possible project in Trump/Wallace.&#8221;
Grazer appeared to be stunned by Wallace bringing up the subject during the CNN+ show.
&#8220;I did. I didn’t know you’d bring that up. Umm—,&#8221; the producer responded.
“Did you really believe that,” Wallace pressed.
&#8220;Your interviews with him were perfect,” Grazer answered Wallace in the affirmative.
“Well, okay. Thank you,” the former Fox News host gushed.
“Because you were able to, without any chip on your shoulder, you were able to talk directly and get direct answers like a little version of that,” Grazer continued.
Wallace then seemed to try to pin down Grazer to make the project about his interviews happen, <a href="https://newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/nicholas-fondacaro/2022/04/28/chris-wallace-embarrassingly-begs-movie-about-his-trump">according</a> to transcript from NewsBusters:
