New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R) signaled during an interview over the weekend that he was hopeful that Elon Musk could be the &#8220;catalyst&#8221; needed for elected U.S. leaders to finally confront the out of control spending in Washington, D.C.
Sununu made the remarks during a Sunday CNN interview on &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; with Dana Bash when asked about how Musk can make the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) effectuate real change.
&#8220;Elon, I think, is very unique, in that he&#8217;s an engineer. I&#8217;m obviously very partial to engineers,&#8221; he said. &#8220;He&#8217;s always looking for efficiency in redesigning a system. You have to know how the system works, right, otherwise, you&#8217;re just going to be a lot of talk and nothing&#8217;s going to move on the Hill.&#8221;
&#8220;So he&#8217;s got to build a team around him that understands what can be done with executive order, what can be done on the Hill,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And it&#8217;s about structural. If you just say, we&#8217;re going to cut a program here and cut a program there and find efficiency in defense, that&#8217;s fine, but it&#8217;s fleeting. What they want to do in their opportunity with the political momentum of this election is to build something lasting with a balanced budget amendment.&#8221;
Sununu said that he has confidence in how Trump will govern during his second term in office because he has surrounded himself with &#8220;a little more professional of a team&#8221; which he said included Musk.
He said that one of the things that he likes about Musk being an a highly successful outsider with an engineering background was that he was &#8220;not a wild politician and not looking for anything out of the game.&#8221;
&#8220;The guy&#8217;s worth $450 billion as of today and this month. So I don&#8217;t think he&#8217;s doing it for the money,&#8221; Sununu said. &#8220;He&#8217;s doing it for the bigger project and the bigger vision of America. He doesn&#8217;t need the dollars. He really doesn&#8217;t. So it&#8217;s not about, oh, if I get involved in this, I will get another little contract here or there. That&#8217;s nothing to him.&#8221;

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu said over the weekend that the Biden-Harris administration&#8217;s &#8220;Bidenomics&#8221; was coming back to bite Vice President Kamala Harris on the campaign trail.
Sununu made the remarks during a Sunday on ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week,&#8221; after Martha Raddatz noted that voters overwhelmingly trust former President Donald Trump over Harris when it comes to the economy.
Raddatz then tried to spread fear about Trump&#8217;s proposal to increase tariffs on products from China for national security reasons.
&#8220;When it comes to the voter, where this election is going, no voter is voting on tariffs,&#8221; Sununu said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a very complex thing. When it comes to the economy, what that really means is, can I afford to bring my kids to McDonald&#8217;s? Can I afford to pay the rent?&#8221;
&#8220;The economy really translates to a cost of living issue when it comes to people at the ballot box,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Now, if and when he becomes president, they&#8217;ll have to sort out the tariff issue. Is he using it for leverage against China, to ratchet things down, to force better negotiations? That will all play itself out, but the average voter doesn&#8217;t look at that stuff right now.&#8221;
He said that it all comes down to can people buy the same amount of goods that they were able to four years ago.
&#8220;And the &#8216;Bidenomics&#8217; thing, I think, is really coming back to haunt Biden and Kamala Harris, especially,&#8221; he said. &#8220;When you&#8217;re told by the government, &#8216;You&#8217;re fine. Bidenomics is working for you&#8217;, it&#8217;s the worst form of gaslighting.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s so condescending, because not all the ads or all the messages from a politician are going to tell you that your lived experience isn&#8217;t real,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And for the average American, their lived experience is credit card bills and energy bills and things that they can&#8217;t afford. That&#8217;s the economic message that people are taking to the ballot box.&#8221;

New Hampshire Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chris-sununu" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chris Sununu</a> was captured on video this week rushing in and administering the Heimlich maneuver to a man who began choking at a food eating contest.
Contestant Christian Moreno was one of several people competing at the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival contest on Sunday when he began choking on a lobster roll.
The Associated Press reported that participants had 10 minutes to eat as many lobster rolls — a hot dog bun stuffed with lobster, celery, and mayonnaise — as possible, and that Moreno was personally shooting to eat &#8220;at least 20,&#8221; according to comments he made before the contest began.
Moreno began chowing down on the lobster rolls when, after only consuming a couple of them, he began pounding on his chest and signaled that he needed help.
Sununu jumped in, positioned himself behind Moreno, placed his fist around Moreno&#8217;s gut, and began administering the Heimlich maneuver.
Sununu said, “It was crazy because it wasn’t so much the jumping in and doing it — I mean, that was wild in itself — but there was so much commotion.”

Moreno said that he had no idea that he was saved by the governor and thought it was a joke when someone first told him.
&#8220;My counter came up to me and, like, made a joke, and was like, ‘Oh, like, I bet nobody else can say that they’ve gotten the Heimlich from the governor before,'&#8221; he said. &#8220;And I looked at him, was just like, that was, that was the governor?”
He returned to the contest, downing nine lobster rolls in total, but did not win.

New Hampshire Republican Governor Chris Sununu said on Sunday that the bump in the polls that Democrats have enjoyed in recent days after Vice President Kamala Harris effectively secured the party&#8217;s presidential nomination will soon come to an end.
Sununu made the remarks during an interview on ABC News&#8217;s &#8220;This Week&#8221; while discussing the fallout from President Joe Biden ending his re-election campaign.
&#8220;This is the honeymoon,&#8221; Sununu said. &#8220;I mean, this is the honeymoon period. [Democrats] had the &#8212; if you will, the courage to push him off of the ballot. Vice President Harris is in there. The media is fawning. Everyone’s excited.&#8221;
&#8220;It’s a whole new race. That’s all very true. And that’s going to last for about 30 days. There’s no question. I think the Democrats can take that momentum into the convention,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;The first poll, I believe, that will actually matter, if I may, is the Wednesday after Labor Day. So, you’re going to have this 30-day honeymoon period. Things will settle. Folks will get back, talk to their family and friends, come off a summer vacation, put their kids in school, all that sort of stuff.&#8221;
He said once people get back into the swing of their normal lives they will start to think about what the change in the race means and how this election will impact them.
&#8220;And you’re going to get back to numbers you saw about a month before the original debates, which is essentially a neck in neck race, or at least within the margin of error. Probably Trump up by a little bit nationally. Some of the swing states all in play. And it’s going to come back to issues,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The border issue, the inflation issue, these are some very real issues. It isn’t just going to be about, well, we need to vote for Vice President Harris because she’s a woman or she &#8212; we need to vote for her because it’s just a change and it’s not Donald Trump.&#8221;

New Hampshire Governor Sununu: Kamala Harris’ ‘Honeymoon’ Phase Going To End Real Quick

New Hampshire&#8217;s Republican governor on Friday signed laws banning genital gender surgeries on minors and trans-identifying boys from competing in girls&#8217; sports.
Governor Chris Sununu (R) <a href="https://www.governor.nh.gov/news-and-media/governor-chris-sununu-signs-50-bills-law" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a <a href="https://legiscan.com/NH/text/HB619/id/2999539" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a> banning doctors from performing gender surgeries on children&#8217;s genitals — such as phalloplasty and vaginoplasty — and threatening disciplinary action if they refer children to other providers for these procedures.
“This bill focuses on protecting the health and safety of New Hampshire’s children and has earned bipartisan support,” Sununu said in a statement on the bill.
The bill does not address other gender surgeries minors sometimes get, such as a double mastectomy to remove the healthy breasts of a teen girl who identifies as male. It also does not address puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones, which are frequently prescribed to gender dysphoric children and come with a host of risks.
At least 25 states have passed legislation banning or restricting transgender medical interventions for minors. In Florida, Ohio, and Montana, the restrictions are held up in court.
Also on Friday, Sununu signed another <a href="https://legiscan.com/NH/text/HB1205/id/2868559" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a> banning biological boys from competing on girls&#8217; athletic teams.
Both public and private schools from kindergarten through college must comply with the new sports restrictions.
Recently, critics have raised serious concerns about biological males playing alongside women and girls. Some female competitors have said they missed out on opportunities and scholarships because they lost competitions to trans-identifying males.
High school girls have been physically injured playing with trans-identifying males. Last year in North Carolina, a female high school volleyball player <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/female-high-school-volleyball-athlete-suffers-serious-head-injury-after-transgender-player-throws-abnormally-fast-ball/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suffered</a> severe trauma after a trans-identifying male player spiked a volleyball that hit her head.
Sununu signed a third bill that allows parents to opt their children out of public school lessons on “sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or gender expression.”
Curriculum content in public schools became a hot-button issue after the pandemic when frustrated parents realized their children were being exposed to controversial topics while suffering massive learning loss. Other states like Florida have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/florida-clashes-with-college-board-over-gender-and-sexuality-material-in-ap-psychology-course">banned</a> public schools from teaching gender, sexuality, and racial topics to young students.
However, Sununu vetoed another bill that <a href="https://gencourt.state.nh.us/bill_status/legacy/bs2016/billText.aspx?sy=2024&amp;id=630&amp;txtFormat=html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> it was not unlawful discrimination for businesses and the government to separate people by sex when it comes to bathrooms, sports, jails, and mental health facilities.
The governor said the issue with that bill was that &#8220;in some cases it seeks to solve problems that have not presented themselves in New Hampshire, and in doing so, invites unnecessary discord.&#8221;
The new laws were praised by Republicans, who pushed the bills.
“These bills are pragmatic and reasonable and I applaud the governor for signing them into law,” said state Representative Joe Sweeney, a Salem Republican, in a statement.

New Hampshire Republican Governor Chris Sununu said on Sunday that a conviction in the Manhattan hush money trial against former President Donald Trump would not be enough to bring him down because voters want change after President Joe Biden&#8217;s dismal job performance.
Sununu made the remarks on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; with guest host Kasie Hunt after she asked him if he was comfortable voting for Trump after a jury found him guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
&#8220;Oh, sure, as, apparently, according to the polls, most of America is,&#8221; Sununu said. &#8220;I mean, the polls of this morning still have him up two points. So the reality is that this isn&#8217;t really moving people&#8217;s decision. A majority of people say it doesn&#8217;t really matter. I think there&#8217;s a small percentage that say it&#8217;ll make them more likely and a small percentage said it&#8217;ll make them less likely to vote for him.&#8221;
&#8220;But, in the end, it&#8217;s kind of a wash. And it&#8217;s June. It&#8217;s early June, right? So this is just the first step of this process with his legal troubles,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;But it&#8217;s also we have two more debates. We have the conventions. We got a long way to go to November. And this is going to be well into the rearview mirror in terms of the voters, those independent voters and where they go.&#8221;

He later added, &#8220;People in America want change. They do. This is how bad Joe Biden is, the fact that, regardless of what happens in the courthouse, it looks like Joe Biden&#8217;s going to lose. He doesn&#8217;t deliver results. Inflation is real. The border is real. You know, public safety and the lack thereof, and especially in a lot of these major cities, is real. I mean, Donald Trump is within single digits in New York at this point, right, never mind the swing states. Even in New York, they&#8217;re making a run at winning New York. So this is just &#8212; it&#8217;s up to the voters. And that&#8217;s democracy. And the voters are saying, we want a change.&#8221;

Sununu made the remarks during a fireside chat at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, when asked by moderator Fred Ryan about how governors can play a bigger role in leading the U.S. forward.
&#8220;Yeah, again, lead by example,&#8221; Sununu said. &#8220;And I think, look, almost all the governors get along. I mean, in my eight years, I can honestly tell you there&#8217;s really only been two, maybe a third, but two real governors that really nobody liked, nobody cared for [them].&#8221;
When asked if he would reveal who the two governors were, Sununu obliged.
&#8220;Yeah, Andrew Cuomo — complete jacka**, no one likes him,&#8221; Sununu responded. &#8220;And I gotta be honest, no one cares for Gavin. Gavin is just a pr*ck, excuse me. He just is, it&#8217;s really disappointing. I got along with him. All of us got along with him for a while, but even the Democrats, they won&#8217;t tell you out loud, but behind closed doors, they&#8217;re like &#8216;Oh God, look who&#8217;s coming.&#8217; You know, they all roll their eyes.&#8221;

Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH) said this week that former President Donald Trump&#8217;s criminal trial in Manhattan will not have the political ramifications that many of Trump&#8217;s detractors believe it will.
Sununu made the remarks during an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week&#8221; when asked if he would support Trump even if he was convicted.
&#8220;Yeah, look, this trial is not going to have major political ramifications that a lot of people, I think, think it may have,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And when it comes to these issues, people see it more as reality TV at this point. They really do. And so, you know, whether it&#8217;s a conviction or what that conviction looks like, a lot of folks, they conflate all four of these different trials that he&#8217;s in.&#8221;
&#8220;I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s good that he&#8217;s going to be in the court, have to be in there probably three days a week, you know, for a number of weeks. That takes him off the campaign trail,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;He&#8217;ll probably go back on the campaign trail and almost, like, rehash what&#8217;s going on. He&#8217;ll try to victimize it. And that has worked for him, right? I mean, this has been going on for over a year, and his poll numbers never seem to go down because of the issue.&#8221;
Stephanopoulos said that he wanted Sununu to answer the question in terms of &#8220;right and wrong&#8221; and not through the lens of politics.

Sununu Defends Trump Over Manhattan Criminal Trial: ‘People See It More As Reality TV’

New Hampshire Republican Governor Chris Sununu said on Sunday that voters should be concerned with a statement that former President Donald Trump made last week about presidents needing to have &#8220;total immunity&#8221; from criminal prosecution.
Sununu made the remarks during an interview with Kristen Welker on NBC News&#8217;s &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; ahead of his state&#8217;s primary election on Tuesday.
The topic came up after the former president <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/111785128948205392">posted</a> on Truth Social on Friday that a president &#8220;MUST HAVE FULL IMMUNITY&#8221; from criminal prosecution, &#8220;EVEN EVENTS THAT &#8216;CROSS THE LINE.'&#8221;
&#8220;Do you agree? Should the president have total immunity, even for things that crossed the line?&#8221; Welker asked.
&#8220;Of course not,&#8221; Sununu responded. &#8220;The amazing thing about that clip is he was dead serious. He wasn&#8217;t even making one of his ridiculous jokes. He was dead serious about that. And that should give everybody, I don&#8217;t care what political party you&#8217;re from, whether you&#8217;re an extreme conservative or socialist liberal, everybody should be concerned with that type of mentality going into the White House.&#8221;
Welker then pressed Sununu on his pledge to support Trump for president if he becomes the nominee.
&#8220;At the end of the day, most Republicans are gonna get behind the Republican nominee,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I&#8217;m hoping that it&#8217;s obviously Nikki Haley. This is how bad Joe Biden is, six months ago, Trump couldn&#8217;t beat Biden. This is how bad Joe Biden is. Inflation is crushing middle and low-income families across this country. We&#8217;re weak on the international stage. We haven&#8217;t secured our border, even Democrats have agreed that he&#8217;s completely incompetent and not on the ball there.&#8221;

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-hampshire" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New Hampshire</a> House of Representatives voted Thursday to pass a bill that would protect children from some irreversible transgender surgeries. 
The bill, which was <a href="https://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/bill_status/billinfo.aspx?id=71" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> 199-175 with 12 Democrats voting in favor and two Republicans voting against, was amended to be significantly weaker from the initial proposal. As introduced, the bill would have prohibited giving children puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, which have been linked to problems with fertility, bone development, and heart health. It also would have banned procedures to remove the breasts of girls who identify as boys. The bill as passed only prohibits genital transgender procedures. 
“Adolescent genital gender reassignment surgery generally lacks both adequate information for informed consent and involves a high risk of coercion for parental consent when parents believe that they are faced with a choice between their child committing suicide or consenting to their child’s genital gender reassignment surgeries,” the bill <a href="https://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/bill_status/billinfo.aspx?id=71" target="_blank" rel="noopener">says</a>. “In the absence of high quality data to prove safety and efficacy, including long term outcomes, only people over the age of majority should receive genital gender reassignment surgery in the state of New Hampshire.”
Rep. Jonah Wheeler, one of the Democrats who joined Republicans in voting for the bill, said that it was necessary to shield kids from life-altering surgeries. 
“This is a question of whether or not you believe children should be able to get an irreversible surgery,” he said, <a href="https://newhampshirebulletin.com/2024/01/04/nh-house-passes-bill-to-ban-gender-affirming-care-for-minors-sending-bill-to-senate/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the New Hampshire Bulletin. “So yeah, despite being a liberal who believes in human rights, I do not think that children should be able to get irreversible surgery. So I’ll take all the heat that comes from this.”

The bill is expected to pass the Senate and go to the desk of Republican Governor Chris Sununu, who has taken a variety of socially liberal positions in the past, including opposing a bill that would have given parents more oversight over what was going on at schools. 
Another bill to allow entities to keep males out of female sports, prisons, and restrooms <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/lgbtq/4389664-new-hampshire-house-ban-gender-affirming-surgery/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was</a> also passed by the Republican-controlled House and sent to the Senate, where Republicans also have a majority. 
Over 20 states have passed laws banning transgender procedures on children. Last week, Governor Mike DeWine (R-OH) vetoed a bill that would have banned transgender surgeries and giving children hormones and puberty blockers. Ohio Republicans, who have a supermajority in the legislature, could override DeWine’s veto later this year.

New Hampshire Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chris-sununu" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chris Sununu</a> endorsed former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley for the Republican nomination for president on Tuesday.
Sununu’s endorsement is a significant victory for Haley, who is relying on a strong performance in early states to propel herself over former President Donald Trump, who has so far dominated the early primary polling. It’s also a significant blow to other GOP candidates vying to compete with Trump for the nomination.
Sununu has appeared with many of the Republican candidates at events in recent weeks. The governor said he was evaluating the field to find the best Republican to have a chance at knocking off Trump for the top spot in the primary. He has said for months that the Republican Party should move on from the former president.
Sununu appeared with Haley and endorsed her at a town hall event in Manchester, New Hampshire.
“This is an opportunity for New Hampshire to lead this country, for New Hampshire to say we’re not looking in the rearview mirror anymore,” Sununu <a href="https://apnews.com/article/haley-sununu-new-hampshire-presidential-election-990cc5cf71b5ae6d50c87cb91e95bfeb" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
“You bet your ass I am. We’re all in for Nikki Haley,” he <a href="https://twitter.com/steinhauserNH1/status/1734712637160661470" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, throwing his weight in the state toward the former U.N. ambassador.
Haley has gained a surge in support in recent weeks, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-megadonor-makes-massive-donation-to-boost-nikki-haley-in-gop-primary" target="_blank" rel="noopener">including</a> from prominent Democratic donors, coming close to overtaking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Both have trailed Trump significantly since the race began, though DeSantis has held on to the number two spot.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s campaign downplayed the impact of Sununu’s pick in a statement to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/new-hampshire-gov-chris-sununu-set-to-endorse-nikki-haley-in-gop-presidential-race-97545648" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a>.
“This puts us down one vote in New Hampshire,” Christie spokesman Karl Rickett said in a statement. The New Jersey governor will overcome the loss of Sununu by continuing to tell the “unvarnished truth about Donald Trump,” Rickett said.

DeSantis’ campaign similarly shrugged off Sununu’s choice.
“What happens in New Hampshire will be significantly impacted by the outcome in Iowa, where the true Trump alternative will emerge,” DeSantis spokesman Andrew Romeo told WSJ in a statement. The DeSantis campaign has heavily invested in Iowa and won endorsements from its governor, Kim Reynolds, and evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats.
Donald Trump is leading, according to the <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/us/2024_republican_presidential_nomination-7548.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RealClearPolitics</a> national polling average. DeSantis is second and Haley is third. Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy sits at fourth, and Christie trails in fifth.

At <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-Qb3uJQiBI" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a press conference</a> in the Hall of Flags of the State House, David Scanlan, New Hampshire&#8217;s Secretary of State, <a href="https://twitter.com/Kjwalsh_news/status/1724867571206275449" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on Wednesday that his state will hold its 2024 primary on Tuesday, January 23.
&#8220;We haven’t changed a thing,&#8221; declared Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH), who joined Scanlon and other officials at the event, adding later that, &#8220;In all the craziness of this day and age, consistency and integrity&#8221; in the election process is what people want.

Iowa decided to work with the DNC on a plan to hold an in-person caucus to deal with <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/iowa-democrats-move-caucus-results-super-tuesday-rcna119222" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;party business&#8221;</a> and <a href="https://apnews.com/article/iowa-democrats-caucus-results-new-calendar-primary-3f78ded207c434b320bce5a3341a7065" target="_blank" rel="noopener">down-ballot</a> races on January 15 — in step with the GOP holding its caucuses on that date — while conducting a mail-in presidential caucus <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/06/iowa-democrats-super-tuesday-00120337" target="_blank" rel="noopener">until Super Tuesday</a> in early March.
New Hampshire refused to mess with the state law, which has helped preserve the decades-long tradition of it holding the first presidential primary, despite the DNC&#8217;s threat to levy sanctions that would <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/democratic-national-committee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">strip the power</a> of New Hampshire&#8217;s delegates at next year&#8217;s national convention in Chicago.

The effort by the DNC to make South Carolina the first presidential nominating state comes as part of a push for more diversity atop the early voting process. South Carolina also happens to be the state where Biden started to gain momentum in the 2020 primary contest with a victory after he got fourth place in the Iowa caucuses and fifth place in New Hampshire.
Though Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/democratic-national-committee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opted</a> not to appear on the primary ballot in New Hampshire because of the brewing standoff over the order of election contests, there has been an effort to get voters to <a href="https://www.npr.org/2023/11/01/1209838428/new-hampshire-primary-democrats-write-in-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">write in</a> the incumbent&#8217;s name. Biden has a couple primary challengers, including Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) and self-help author Marianne Williamson, but has dominated primary polls.
