<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/marvel-star-doesnt-think-captain-america-should-represent-america" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anthony Mackie</a> said he’s “a proud American” as he responded to backlash against him for saying</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> he didn’t believe “the term America” was one of the things that represented the superhero Captain America, who represents things like “honor, dignity, and integrity.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In a post on Tuesday on the Marvel star’s </span><a href="https://www.instagram.com/stories/anthonymackie/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Instagram Stories</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, Mackie wrote, “Let me be clear about this, I’m a proud American and taking on the shield of a hero like CAP [Captain America] is the honor of a lifetime.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I have the utmost respect for those who serve and have served our country,” he added. “CAP has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The original comments came while Mackie, whose character Sam Wilson has now taken over the Captain America role, was on a press tour in Rome and was asked about his role in the new Disney movie “Captain America: Brave New World.” The hero role was formerly played by </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chris-evans"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Chris Evans</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, as previously </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/marvel-star-doesnt-think-captain-america-should-represent-america"><span style="font-weight: 400;">reported</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“For me, Captain America represents a lot of different things and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations,” the actor said in the clip that’s since gone viral. “It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity, and integrity. Someone who is trustworthy and dependable.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 42-year-old “</span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marvel" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Avengers: Endgame</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">” star discussed his thoughts during a cover story interview with <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/chris-evans-october-cover-profile-2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GQ</a>. He said </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/los-angeles" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Los Angeles</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> gave him “Pavlovian anxiety” and that returning to his home state offered a sense of peace in his life. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Evans said arriving back East “takes me back to a place when life was not just simpler—that’s too reductive—but to a time where I was more pure, I guess; where my ego and my insecurities weren’t such a dominant force that I had to push against.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Later, he said, “The fact that trees are green blows my mind.” The actor also discussed how becoming self-focused makes him unhappy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I’ve just learned early on that when I go small, I suffer,” Evans told the outlet. “When I look at my own life and it’s under a microscope, or when I consider my own experience, it leads to cyclical unhappiness.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The “Captain America” star also mentioned how he picks projects now based on the season. As he told GQ, “Now it’s really about, well: What time of year are we filming? Am I gonna miss autumn? You know, I don’t want to miss autumn. I only have so many of them.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I don’t want to waste too much time in this industry, but that doesn’t really feel.… That doesn’t sound correct. I don’t want to occupy too much space in an industry that I’ve already poured 20 years into,” Evans said. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He continued, “Sometimes I wonder if I’m lacking some sort of—like, I think I’m a very driven person. I have a lot of energy. I wake up early, I get a lot done in a day, but it’s not always focused on acting. Sometimes reading a script is the last thing I want to do.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Despite this, the actor didn’t rule out a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, giving the idea a “maybe.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience,” he said. “But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing….So, no time soon.&#8221;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In a year featuring at least three Marvel sequels and yet another installation in the Jurassic franchise that, ironically, will never die, “The Gray Man” is a welcome change of pace.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Released on Netflix last month, the series is  based on a novel by </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">the writer who helped expand </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tom Clancy’s “Jack Ryan” universe.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">And though “The Gray Man” series does contain a dozen books to mine for sequels, fans of spy thrillers will enjoy the introduction of Sierra Six (played by Ryan Gosling) to the cadre of modern action heroes.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Six is a CIA assassin, high in ethics and low in emotion, making Gosling the perfect man for the role. After killing a “bad guy,” Six is recruited from prison to work for the CIA, joining the gray men: “nameless assassins with limited morality.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yet Six has a strong moral code, part of what makes this hardened killer so compelling. We eventually learn that he was in prison for killing a man in order to save someone close to him and most of the film revolves around Six’s quest to protect a young girl with a heart condition.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If this sounds a little on the nose, it is. But you’ll be so distracted by the fight scenes — Six battling a foe amid exploding fireworks, Six fighting for an enemy’s parachute while careening out of an airplane, Six leaping to safety from an exploding streetcar — that you probably won’t notice. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Despite its title, “The Gray Man” is pretty black and white. It bucks the trend of moping superheroes and morally dubious protagonists who make you wonder whatever happened to the simple “good vs. bad” action flicks of yesteryear. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Six is fiercely loyal to his handler and father figure Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), as well as Fitzroy’s niece, Claire (Julia Butters), whom he is tasked with protecting. He develops a friendship with Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas), a fellow agent who begrudgingly becomes his ally. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The film’s conceit is simple: tasked with killing another agent who is supposedly selling compromising national security secrets, Six takes a mysterious necklace from the dying man, who tells him to question the narrative that CIA leadership is feeding him.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The necklace, it turns out, hides an encrypted drive containing blackmail on Carmichael (Regé-Jean Page), a CIA leader who doesn’t care how many heads must roll before that incriminating evidence is destroyed. So Six recruits Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), an ex-CIA agent known for “bad ethics, zero impulse control, unsanctioned torture.” Lloyd then captures Fitzroy and Claire in an effort to draw out the elusive Six.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Besides its star-studded cast, the film features some smart cinematography, strong use of color, and a good soundtrack (a lot of viewers </span><a href="https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/mark-lindsay-silver-bird-gray-man-lyricfind-charts-1235119288/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">seem</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> to have gotten </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mark Lindsay’s 1970s classic </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Silver Bird</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> stuck in their heads).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“The Gray Man”</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> isn’t as lighthearted as, say, a typical Ryan Reynolds movie or other films directed by the Russo brothers, but it does have its share of humor. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">When Fitzroy attempts to intimidate Lloyd by telling him that “</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Six’s will is preternatural compared to yours,” Lloyd hits him in the face, responding: “Don’t say preternatural to me. It’s an asshole word.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Chris Evans succeeds as Lloyd, thanks partially to his mustache, a look that does Evans no favors but really sells him as the vain and heartless villain, a fitting foil to Ryan Gosling’s unpretentious Six. While Lloyd was kicked out of the CIA after less than six months, Six has become the agency’s top assassin through his focus and level-headedness. Lloyd is a loose canon; Six is a sniper.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Their approaches to life are equally different: Lloyd has no problem killing and torturing his way toward his goals. Six almost blows a mission at the beginning of the film because a child gets in the way of his shot; killing, for him, is only a protective measure.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“The Gray Man”</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> cost Netflix a whopping $200 million, </span><a href="https://www.wgbh.org/news/arts/2022/07/27/netflixs-the-gray-man-hits-every-action-trope#:~:text=%E2%80%9CThe%20Gray%20Man%E2%80%9D%20is%20the,Thornton%20and%20Ana%20de%20Armas."><span style="font-weight: 400;">making</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> it the streaming service’s most expensive project ever. And, while co-director Joe Russo </span><a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/anthony-and-joe-russo-the-gray-man-netflix-marvel-1235180430/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">likened</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> it to “business-focused content” that allows more artistic films to find funding, it’s not without merit.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While other heroes may find themselves struggling against moral codes, Six primarily struggles against his own fate. Since his prison sentence was commuted only for him to serve the CIA for the next 18 years, it doesn’t seem like the agency has prepared an exit strategy for him. He likens himself to </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sisyphus, the mythical Greek king who twice cheated death only to be sentenced by Zeus to push a boulder endlessly up a hill.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">And we know that he will keep pushing the boulder, as the film’s ending hints that the CIA rot goes deeper than Carmichael, and Six still has his hands full protecting Claire. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">“The Gray Man”</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> may be </span><a href="https://deadline.com/2022/07/netflix-joe-anthony-russo-and-ryan-gosling-are-all-in-on-the-gray-man-as-sequel-spinoff-in-the-works-interview-1235077926/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">setting itself up</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> as another franchise, but with “Jack Ryan” filming its </span><a href="https://deadline.com/2022/05/jack-ryan-end-season-4-final-season-spinoff-michael-pena-ding-chavez-amazon-tom-clancy-1235014723/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">last season</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and the search for a </span><a href="https://www.esquire.com/uk/culture/a25723722/who-will-be-the-next-james-bond-an-in-depth-analysis/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">new James Bond</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> still going, there might be enough room for another classic action hero. </span></p>

<p>Tom Hanks admitted he didn&#8217;t &#8220;understand&#8221; why Disney/Pixar replaced Tim Allen with Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear for the new animated film &#8220;Lightyear.&#8221;</p>
<p>During the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/beyond-that-now-tom-hanks-says-fans-wouldnt-accept-him-playing-gay-man-in-philadelphia-now">65-year-old</a> actor&#8217;s appearance on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CfPPwz9Jj7n/">CinemaBlend</a>, the &#8220;Castaway&#8221; star was asked if it was going to be weird being in theaters across from a Buzz Lightyear film, the <a href="https://www.cinemablend.com/interviews/tom-hanks-reacts-to-lightyear-replacing-tim-allen-and-the-toy-story-spinoff-competing-with-elvis">outlet</a> noted. Hanks is currently in theaters in the &#8220;Elvis&#8221; movie where he plays Elvis&#8217; manager, Colonel Tom Parker.</p>
<p>Hanks said he was looking forward to going &#8220;head-to-head&#8221; with his former co-star from the &#8220;Toy Story&#8221; franchise, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-allen">Allen</a>. In the animated films, Hanks was the voice of the cowboy toy Woody, and his best friend is Buzz Lightyear, a role voiced by the &#8220;Home Improvement&#8221; star.</p>
<p>&#8220;How &#8217;bout that?&#8221; Hanks explained. &#8220;Why it&#8217;s not&#8230;actually I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen, and then they didn&#8217;t let Tim Allen do it. I don&#8217;t understand that.&#8221;</p>

A recent poll conducted by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/poll-by-two-to-one-margin-investors-reject-woke-companies-pushing-political-causes">Echelon Insights on behalf of The Daily Wire</a> showed that although 29% of American investors agreed it is a “good thing” for companies to leverage their financial power for political or social means supported by executives, 58% — twice as many — said it is a “bad thing.”</p>
<p>Meanwhile, 56% of investors said the firms are merely “trying to appease their critics” and 34% said the firms genuinely “believe it’s the right thing.” When companies do take political stances, 36% of investors said they are “too liberal,” while 17% said they are “too conservative.”</p>
<p>Pixar — a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/not-at-all-secret-gay-agenda-disney-employees-break-down-adding-queerness-to-shows-and-degenderizing-theme-parks">Disney</a> subsidiary — reinstated the same-sex kiss between two female characters after Florida passed a bill banning classroom discussion on sexual orientation and gender identity for young children. However, another <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-poll-over-60-of-americans-back-floridas-limits-on-k-3-lessons-on-sexual-orientation-and-gender-identity">exclusive poll from The Daily Wire</a> showed that 64% of Americans supported the parental rights legislation after they were presented with the actual language of the law.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-poll-67-of-americans-say-disney-is-wrong-to-oppose-florida-bill-banning-k-3-instruction-on-sexual-orientation-and-gender-identity">same poll</a> revealed that 67% of Americans believe Disney was “wrong” for opposing the legislation, as it “would protect children from inappropriate topics that should be discussed by parents.” There were no meaningful differences between Americans of different racial groups, and a clear majority of Democrats expressed support for the legislation.</p>
<p>Nevertheless, Chris Evans — the actor who voiced Buzz Lightyear — has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/idiots-actor-chris-evans-slams-critics-who-dont-want-gay-kiss-in-toy-story-spinoff">pushing the kiss scene</a> upon the American public, even characterizing those who disagree as “idiots.”</p>

<p>The animated children&#8217;s Disney/Pixar movie has reportedly been banned in several Middle-Eastern countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its same-sex kiss, as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disney-pixars-lightyear-banned-in-saudi-arabia-over-same-sex-kiss-report">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported.</p>

<p>Variety further notes that one of the characters is reportedly a significant female role by the name of Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba). The romantic relationship between the two female animated characters was never hidden, but a kiss between them had reportedly been cut from the movie.</p>
<p>However, none of the sources Variety spoke to about the alleged cutting of these kinds of scenes in Pixar films could provide &#8220;first-hand knowledge of Disney executives directly&#8221; eliminating the LGBTQ scenes. The outlet noted that it was more an example of self-censorship by Pixar.</p>

<p>In the wake of the election, some Trump opponents have taken the opportunity to threaten his supporters with harsh, draconian punishment no different than a McCarthyite blacklist. The sentiment apparently started when Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) called for an archive of &#8220;Trump sycophants.&#8221;</p>
<p>“Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future? I foresee a decent probability of many deleted Tweets, writings, photos in the future,” she <a href="https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1324807776510595078?s=20">tweeted.</a></p>
<p>Other prominent leftists agree that Trump supporters should be shamed and pushed aside.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fully dressed in his Captain America costume, Bridger Walker, the little boy who was injured in the July 9 incident, took a <a href="https://twitter.com/MCU_Direct/status/1283791580894244864">video call</a> from Captain America actor Chris Evans, who said he read about the story that the boy&#8217;s family had shared online.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Now, I’m sure you’ve heard a lot of this over the last couple of days, but let me be the next one to tell you: Pal, you’re a hero,” Evans told Bridger, who was sitting next to what appears to be his younger sister during the video call. “What you did was so brave, so selfless </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">—</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> you’re sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you.”</span></p>
