For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.
With less than two weeks to go before Christmas — and just over a month before President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated to serve a second term in the White House — the news cycle is as jumbled as ever. Some of the focus remains overseas, as unrest continues to to rule the day in Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad — but things at home are also quite literally &#8220;up in the air&#8221; as rumors swirl about mysterious drone sightings over states along the east coast.
After multiple reports of the strange aerial phenomena — many of which seem to be concentrated in northern New Jersey — local officials have admitted to being completely baffled and federal authorities have done little to dispel fears that all is not exactly what it seems.
During the week, the FBI <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dhs-fbi-release-statement-about-drone-sightings-in-new-jersey" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released a statement</a> alongside the Department of Homeland Security, claiming that the majority of the sightings had likely been manned aircraft operating in a lawful manner — and while they could not give a definitive answer on what the people were seeing, they were certain that the public was not at any risk.
On ABC&#8217;s &#8220;This Week,&#8221; Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted that some of the sightings were, in fact, drones — but again said that he did not believe anyone was in danger.
&#8220;There’s no question that drones are being sighted…There are thousands of drones flown every day in the United States — recreational drones, commercial drones,&#8221; Mayorkas said, apparently suggesting that the things people were seeing were not really anything out of the ordinary.

Mayorkas also responded to claims that the drones were potentially being sent or operated by foreign adversaries, saying that he did not have any information leading him to believe that. Mayorkas told ABC host George Stephanopoulos that he had heard of &#8220;no foreign involvement with respect to the sightings in the Northeast.&#8221;

But former Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) also weighed in on the issue, and he pointed out the fact that the longer the American people went without any definitive answers, the more likely it was that conspiracy theories would run wild about what they could be seeing.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve lived in New Jersey my whole life,&#8221; the former governor explained. &#8220;This is the first time that I&#8217;ve noticed drones over my house.&#8221;

Klobuchar also took some time to discuss a slew of pardons and commutations issued by President Joe Biden as his presidency nears its end.
While Biden&#8217;s Thanksgiving weekend pardon for his embattled son Hunter Biden certainly raised the most eyebrows — on both sides of the political aisle — Klobuchar noted that just by sheer volume, Biden was testing the limits of what she found to be acceptable.
Klobuchar first said that she was among those who did not like the fact that Biden had pardoned his son — but then said she also worried about the some 1500 sentence commutations he issued in the past week.
She proposed an &#8220;outside board&#8221; to aid the president in selecting cases for pardons or sentence commutations &#8220;instead of people just doing it in the middle of the night, and people in the White House — this makes no sense to me.&#8221;
&#8220;This whole process cries out for reform, because otherwise you undermine the justice system,&#8221; she added.

But on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; retiring Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) said that despite having often been at odds with Trump himself, he was not overly concerned that the president-elect might use the Justice Department to attack those who had opposed him.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not particularly worried about criminal investigations,&#8221; he told anchor Jake Tapper. &#8220;I think President Trump is likely to try and focus on the future.&#8221;

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said during an interview over the weekend that President Joe Biden would have probably rather have been criminally charged in Special Counsel Robert Hur&#8217;s investigation rather than have Hur&#8217;s report come out and say that he was effectively not competent to stand trial.
Christie made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Kristen Welker on NBC News&#8217; &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; while talking about Hur&#8217;s report, which said that Biden willfully retained classified material but charges could not be brought because Biden had serious memory problems.
&#8220;Former Attorney General Eric Holder said this about the report, &#8216;Way too many gratuitous remarks and it&#8217;s flatly inconsistent with longstanding DOJ traditions,'&#8221; Welker said. &#8220;Did this report cross any lines for you?&#8221;
&#8220;I don&#8217;t think so,&#8221; Christie responded. &#8220;And, look, I did this, as you know, for seven years as the U.S. attorney in the fifth-largest office in the country. The fact is they had to give the reasons why they weren&#8217;t prosecuting when you start off the report by saying that he &#8216;willfully and knowingly retained classified documents.&#8217; Well, that&#8217;s a violation of the law.&#8221;
&#8220;So the question, then, for the prosecutor is, &#8216;Then why aren&#8217;t you bringing charges?'&#8221; Christie continued. &#8220;And he gave two reasons essentially. One was President Biden&#8217;s memory, lack of memory, his condition, and secondly, was that President Biden cooperated. Once documents were discovered, he let them go in and do whatever they needed to do to get those documents, retrieve them, as opposed to what President Trump did.&#8221;
When asked if he agreed with former President Donald Trump&#8217;s claim that Biden not being prosecuted was proof of a two-tiered justice system, Christie responded: &#8220;No, because in fact if there was a two-tiered system of justice, what would have happened would have been they just would have announced that they weren&#8217;t prosecuting him and they wouldn&#8217;t have given any of the reasons.&#8221;
&#8220;I have to tell you the truth: In one respect I think the Biden White House would have been happier if he had been charged than for that report to have come out in the midst of a reelection campaign,&#8221; Christie said. &#8220;The fact is: When you&#8217;re questioning what 70-some percent of the American people are already questioning – whether Joe Biden is too old for the job – and now you have an independent counsel, a special counsel, appointed by his own justice department, concluding that he couldn&#8217;t bring a trial for that reason, that&#8217;s much more damaging, politically, than whether people would have agreed or disagreed with him being charged.&#8221;
&#8220;And, look, in the end, this is the problem,&#8221; he concluded. &#8220;Both of these candidates are people who are being questioned for their competence and being questioned for their character. And that&#8217;s a problem for the American people.&#8221;

The hosts of ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View&#8221; got into a heated debate on Tuesday, complaining about a weekend interview with former New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie and his claim that 81-year-old President Joe Biden is &#8220;past his sell-by date.&#8221;
Whoopi Goldberg opened the discussion with a clip of Christie&#8217;s conversation with ABC host George Stephanopoulos.
&#8220;Oh, my goodness gracious &#8230; What are you talking about? He kicked butt a couple of days ago. He did better than you-know-who did,&#8221; Goldberg said, claiming that Biden had done better than former President Donald Trump in South Carolina&#8217;s primary even though the Republican primary has not yet taken place.

Ambassador Nikki Haley during a hot mic moment on Wednesday, saying that he believes she is going to get &#8220;smoked&#8221; in the Republican Party primary race.
The moment came right before Christie told supporters in Windham, New Hampshire, that he was suspending his campaign for president.
&#8220;I mean, look, she spent $68 million so far, just on TV. Spent $68 million so far, $59 million by DeSantis. And we spent 12,&#8221; Christie said on the hot mic. &#8220;I mean, who’s punching above their weight and who’s getting a return on their investment, you know? And she’s going to get smoked. Former New Jersey Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chris-christie" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chris Christie</a> announced on Wednesday that he is suspending his campaign for president after failing to gain enough traction in New Hampshire where he had staked his entire operation.
Christie, whose campaign centered around attacking former President Donald Trump, made the announcement while speaking to supporters in Windham, New Hampshire.
&#8220;I am going to make sure that in no way do I enable Donald Trump to ever be President of the United States again,&#8221; Christie said. &#8220;And that&#8217;s more important than my own personal ambitions.&#8221;
The 61-year-old slammed Republican politicians who refused to speak out publicly against Trump as &#8220;cowards.&#8221; He specifically called out Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) and Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) — both of whom recently endorsed Trump — saying that he knows that both of them know better.

Ambassador Nikki Haley, saying that anyone who refuses to say that Trump is unfit for office was unfit themselves to hold the nation&#8217;s highest office. Chris Christie Drops Out Of 2024 Presidential Race

The latest polls of the Iowa caucuses show former President Donald Trump retaining a large lead in the state, holding over 50% of Republican support just five days before 2024 primary voting officially kicks off, according to the Real Clear Politics <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/president/republican-primary/2024/iowa-caucus" target="_blank" rel="noopener">average</a>. 
As of Wednesday afternoon, Trump leads the GOP field in Iowa with 52.2% as former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (16.6%) and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (16.4%) fight for second place in the polls, per the RCP average. Tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (7%), former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (3.4%), and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (0.6%) round out the GOP candidates heading into the Iowa caucuses, which take place on Monday, January 15. 
The most recent poll, conducted between January 6 and January 8, comes from the Trafalgar Group, which puts Trump at 52% and Haley and DeSantis both at 18%. All other GOP candidates were under 6%, according to Trafalgar. A Morning Consult poll conducted between January 1 and January 7 has Trump at 58%, Haley in second at 15%, and DeSantis in third at 14%. Ramaswamy polled much better in the Morning Consult survey, hitting 10%, while Christie remained at 3%. 
Haley and DeSantis will take the stage in Des Moines on Wednesday evening to face off in a CNN debate. Meanwhile, Trump, who qualified for the debate, will instead <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-to-skip-cnn-gop-debate-participate-in-fox-news-town-hall-scheduled-for-same-time" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sit down</a> with Fox News hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum for a town hall, which will also take place in Des Moines. 
The Haley-DeSantis debate will be the smallest yet in the GOP primary, and CNN <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/live-blog/2024-election-republican-debate-live-updates-rcna132591" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the debate will focus on “women’s issues.” 
The fifth Republican presidential debate of the 2024 season will also be the fifth that Trump, the leading candidate in the field, will skip. The former president has cited his large polling lead over the rest of the Republican field as why he does not attend the debates, sparking the ire of his GOP competitors.

“With only three candidates qualifying for the CNN debate, it’s time for Donald Trump to show up. As the debate stage continues to shrink, it’s getting harder for Donald Trump to hide,” Haley said last week. 
DeSantis has also hit Trump for refusing to attend previous debates, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/02/politics/cnn-iowa-debate-qualified/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">saying</a> in late December, “He’s not been willing to come here and answer questions.” 
“He parachutes in for 30, 45-minute, hour speech and then just leaves, rather than listening to Iowans answering questions and doing, I think, what it takes to win,” the Florida governor added.

The Republican presidential candidate was notified earlier this month by the Maine Secretary of State&#8217;s Office that he had failed to secure enough certified signatures from Maine voters to qualify for the state&#8217;s GOP primary ballot, the Bangor Daily News <a href="https://www.bangordailynews.com/2023/12/22/politics/chris-christie-disqualified-maine-ballot/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The campaign appealed the decision in court after facing the unexpected setback in the Super Tuesday state, but were shot down this week by Maine Superior Court Justice Julia M. Lipez.
Christie &#8220;did not separate petition forms by town, as instructed by the Secretary, or, in the alternative, give himself sufficient time to bring those multi-town signature sheets to the relevant municipalities before the November 20 deadline,&#8221; Lipez wrote.
Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows said in a statement that her office appreciated &#8220;that the court upheld the integrity of Maine&#8217;s well-established ballot access requirements.&#8221;
&#8220;Every candidate, including presidential candidates, must follow the law to qualify for the ballot,&#8221; she added. &#8220;We are glad that the court recognized that Maine law is workable and fair to all.&#8221;

Christie&#8217;s campaign only turned in fewer than half the number of certified signatures that were required in order for him to appear on the ballot, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/judge-rules-chris-christie-must-remain-off-maine-republican-presidential-primary-ballot/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The 61-year-old politician has banked his entire campaign on winning New Hampshire, where he is trailing multiple candidates. He tried the same strategy in 2016 and was defeated, finishing behind Donald Trump, John Kasich, Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, and Marco Rubio.
Christie&#8217;s campaign said they disagreed with the judge&#8217;s ruling and they were evaluating their options. They can still file as a write-in candidate with the secretary of state’s office, but will have to do so by Monday.

Former President Donald Trump has hit his largest GOP primary polling lead in the Real Clear Politics average of national polls as he also enjoys a consistent lead over President Joe Biden in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup.
Trump is polling at a dominant 63.8% in <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/us/2024_republican_presidential_nomination-7548.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RCP’s average</a> of national Republican primary polls as of Friday morning. The former president holds a 52-point lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (11.6%), who has dropped nearly three points since last month and is now neck-and-neck with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (10.8%).   
The Republican candidates are just weeks away from their first true test in the Iowa caucuses on January 15 and then the first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire on January 23. Trump’s polling lead in <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/ia/2024_iowa_republican_presidential_caucus-8164.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Iowa</a> stands at 32 points as he pulls 51.3% support to DeSantis’ 18.6% and Haley’s 16.1%. In <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/nh/2024_new_hampshire_republican_presidential_primary-7396.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New Hampshire</a>, Trump has a less comfortable lead, sitting at 46.3% while Haley comes in second at 24.8%. 
The latest polls of Iowa and New Hampshire showed Haley on an upward trajectory. In Iowa, the former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. was tied with DeSantis for second place at 17% in the latest InsiderAdvantage poll, while she led DeSantis 17% to 15% in an Emerson survey conducted last weekend. The most recent Fox Business poll of Iowa showed DeSantis leading Haley 18% to 16% while Trump remained the dominant leader at 52%. 
The latest poll of New Hampshire conducted by St. Anselm showed Trump leading Haley by just 14 points. In the poll, Trump sat at 44% to Haley’s 30% while former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie came in third at 12%. DeSantis (6%) and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (5%) came in third and fourth, respectively, in the New Hampshire <a href="https://www.anselm.edu/about/offices-centers-institutes/centers-institutes/new-hampshire-institute-politics/programs/polling/december-18-19-2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survey</a> of nearly 2,000 likely primary voters. A UMass Lowell <a href="https://www.uml.edu/docs/NH-Dec-Topline_tcm18-378223.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a> of 450 likely primary voters conducted earlier this month had markedly different results, showing Trump at 52%, Haley at 22%, DeSantis in third at 10%, Christie at 6%, and Ramaswamy at 4%.
Most early polls of the 2024 general election also show Trump in the lead. As of Friday morning, the former president leads Biden 46.8% to 44.5% in the RCP average. Trump’s polling lead comes amid even more controversy surrounding the former president after a Colorado Supreme Court ruling banned him from the state’s ballot. The state Supreme Court’s ruling cited the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause, arguing that he took part in an insurrection on January 6, 2021, “inciting the crowd that breached the U.S. Capitol.”

And things she said about global trade, for example, you say, shows she doesn&#8217;t even understand what she&#8217;s talking about.&#8221;
&#8220;Are you ruling out ever working with Nikki Haley in the future to defeat Donald Trump?&#8221; she asked.
Christie responded, &#8220;When she hasn&#8217;t ruled out being his vice president, I don&#8217;t think you could take her as a serious contender against him. Ron DeSantis and I have both ruled out accepting the vice presidency from Donald Trump. Nikki Haley has not.&#8221;

As Republican presidential candidates make moves and gain endorsements in Iowa and New Hampshire before the first ballots are cast next month, one stark reality remains for the trailing GOP hopefuls: Donald Trump’s massive polling lead in both states.
In Iowa — a state seen as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ best shot to pull off an early upset — Trump’s lead has grown larger from a week ago as the former president now posts a 30-point polling advantage in the state, according to the <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/ia/2024_iowa_republican_presidential_caucus-8164.html">RealClearPolitics</a> average. Trump’s lead is slightly smaller in New Hampshire, where he is ahead of the second-place former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley by 25 points.
Haley won a major <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-hampshire-governor-sununu-endorses-nikki-haley-for-president" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsement</a> in New Hampshire Tuesday night when Republican Governor Chris Sununu publically announced his support for the former South Carolina governor at a campaign event in Manchester. Sununu, a strong Trump critic, endorsed Haley after spending time with both <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2023/10/24/desantis-sununu-new-hampshire/71304845007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DeSantis</a> and former New Jersey Governor <a href="https://nhjournal.com/christie-campaigns-with-sununu-but-talks-about-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chris Christie</a> on the campaign trail in the first primary state. 
Sununu’s endorsement was vital for Haley’s campaign after her rival DeSantis secured the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/iowa-governor-reynolds-endorses-desantis-for-president-hes-the-person-we-need-leading-this-country" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsement</a> of Iowa Republican Governor Kim Reynolds last month. 
Even with the endorsements, DeSantis and Haley will need to cover a lot of ground in the next month to be competitive with the former president. The most recent <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/ia/2024_iowa_republican_presidential_caucus-8164.html">Iowa</a> poll from NBC News and the Des Moines Register gave Trump a majority of the support in the Hawkeye State at 51% to DeSantis’ 19% and Haley’s 16%. Tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (5%), Christie (3.7%), and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (1%) trailed at the bottom of the pack in the Iowa poll. A Trafalgar Group poll of Iowa conducted at the beginning of the month put Trump’s support at 45%, leading DeSantis who came in at 22%, and Haley at 19%.

&#8220;I&#8217;m not going to be 100% with him. I&#8217;m not going to be 100% against him. It&#8217;s not personal for me. Megyn Kelly this week revealed that former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie approached her during a commercial break during the most recent Republican presidential debate and was &#8220;pissed&#8221; that he was not getting more questions.
Kelly made the remarks on her show following the fourth primary debate hosted by NewsNation in Alabama after a video was posted to social media that showed Christie approaching her in a hostile manner.
&#8220;There was all sorts of speculation about what was happening there,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I will tell you what was happening there. It was not off the record. He was pissed off. He was mad that he wasn&#8217;t getting enough questions. And he said, ‘I made it up on this stage and I haven&#8217;t been able to speak in a while. And I should have been brought in on that last debate.’&#8221;
She said that Christie did not get more of a chance to speak during the first portion of the debate because the moderators let the candidates fight each other.
&#8220;The sort of even distribution of questions got mucked up by all the arguing,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Having said all that, I knew very well that Christie was going to get asked a Trump question having to do with immigration at the top of the next hour so it was totally fair to him. And he&#8217;s polling at 2%! Okay?
