House Republicans held the debut press conference of the Sharia Free America Caucus on Tuesday, warning that Islamic law is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution, and that its influence poses a growing threat to American law and culture.
The caucus, co-chaired by Representatives Keith Self (R-TX) and Chip Roy (R-TX), levels sharp criticism at what lawmakers described as the spread of Sharia-based practices through immigration and cultural accommodation. Supporters say the group will focus on preventing Sharia law from gaining any foothold in U.S. governance, while critics have condemned the effort as discriminatory toward Muslims.
At the press conference, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) described “radical Islam” as a “cult that has taken over every second of every day,” framing the caucus’s work as a defense of the American way of life. Co-chair Roy emphasized the constitutional implications, stating, “Sharia is a direct threat to our Constitution and Western values and seeks to replace our legal system and erode our basic freedoms.”
Self highlighted the growth of Muslim communities in Texas, pointing to 20 new mosques in North Texas over the past two years. “First of all, it would be simply, ‘We want a community.’ Then the police can’t come in. And the contracts, the covenants of the area say that you may buy if you’re the right kind of person, you may sell to the right kind of person,” he said, describing what he called a creeping influence of Sharia principles.
The caucus also supports legislative measures, including “No Sharia Legislation,” designed to prevent special immigration benefits for individuals advocating Sharia law, and backing Texas’s Proposition 10, a March ballot measure aimed at restricting Sharia influence in the state. Self noted the Trump administration’s recent designation of Muslim Brotherhood branches as terrorist organizations as a milestone for the caucus’s objectives.
Prominent members, including Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), emphasized the caucus’s mission as a defense of constitutional governance rather than a target against religious communities. Donalds declared, “Sharia has no place in America. We will not surrender our freedoms,” while Miller said she would “stand firmly against this radical ideology that seeks to uproot the constitutional principles and Christian values on which our nation was founded.”
While the caucus’s rhetoric is fiery, its leaders acknowledge that translating concern into law will be key. By focusing on policies grounded in historical American jurisprudence, Republicans aim to ensure their legislative efforts align with constitutional authority while addressing what they see as an ideological threat.
As debates over immigration, national security, and religious freedom intensify, the Sharia Free America Caucus positions Republicans to proactively safeguard constitutional governance and protect American legal and cultural norms. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) demanded Thursday that a radical pro-abortion organization provide answers on its involvement with the Biden administration’s targeting of peaceful pro-life protesters, according to a letter obtained by The Daily Wire. 
In a <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2025/10/10.16.25-CR-to-NAF-Gonen-re-DOJ-coordination.pdf">letter</a> to the National Abortion Federation, Roy gave the organization two weeks to provide documents and communications on its relationship with former President Joe Biden’s Justice Department. The letter comes after The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bidens-fbi-worked-with-radical-pro-abortion-group-to-target-pro-lifers-emails-show">reported last month</a> about emails that appeared to show that a pro-abortion group had worked with Biden’s FBI and DOJ to investigate Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE) cases. 
Under Biden, elderly grandparents, devout Christians, and other pro-life activists were sent to prison over FACE Act convictions. Republicans have argued that these prosecutions were politically motivated. Roy, the chair of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, is heading up an investigation into the abuse of the FACE Act. 
“Documents indicate that the Biden-Harris DOJ may have coordinated with radical anti-life groups, including the National Abortion Federation (NAF), to prosecute peaceful pro-life demonstrators,” Roy wrote, citing The Daily Wire. “This coordination raises significant questions about the Biden-Harris DOJ’s misuse of the FACE Act.”
The documents, which were obtained by the Functional Government Initiative, included an email from National Abortion Federation Security Manager Robert Ledogar saying that his organization has “been part of several FACE Act investigations working with [assistant U.S. attorneys] and the FBI in TN, FL, VA, CA, NY, MD, and NC.” The email also touted the “amazing relationship” between the NAF and the Biden administration. 
“The Biden-Harris Administration weaponized the federal government to target its political opponents, including by selectively enforcing the FACE Act against pro-life Americans,” Roy wrote to the NAF. “During the Biden-Harris Administration, DOJ used the FACE Act to target prayer and peaceful demonstration near abortion clinics while failing to prosecute criminals who vandalized or threatened pro-life pregnancy counseling centers.”

Roy noted that the apparent relationship between the NAF and DOJ raised questions about testimony from National Abortion Federation lawyer Talcott Camp when she told Congress in May 2023 that she had no contact with the Biden administration related to the FACE Act. That testimony came five months after Ledogar bragged in January 2023 about the NAF’s relationship with the DOJ.

“Given her senior position at NAF, the Committee has questions about who was engaging with the Biden-Harris DOJ regarding FACE Act prosecution,” Roy wrote Thursday. 
It is unclear which specific FACE Act investigations the National Abortion Federation was involved in, but at least two of the states referenced by Ledogar had major FACE Act prosecutions. 
For example, six pro-lifers in Tennessee faced over 10 years in prison after they were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-church-meeting-is-now-a-conspiracy-pro-lifers-pray-outside-court-after-conviction-over-peaceful-protest">convicted</a> of violating the FACE Act and conspiring against rights. Three of the pro-lifers were sentenced to prison over that case, which involved a group of Christians singing and praying inside the hallway of an office building outside an abortion facility.
“To develop effective legislation ensuring that civil rights laws are not used to target Americans who engage in protected speech, the Committee must understand the extent to which the Biden-Harris DOJ worked with ideologically-aligned groups to target pro-life Americans,” Roy wrote. 
The House Judiciary Committee voted earlier this year to repeal the FACE Act, citing its disproportionate use against pro-life defendants. Since its inception, data obtained by Roy shows that over 90% of FACE cases have targeted pro-lifers, even though it is supposed to protect crisis pregnancy centers and churches as well.

Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk said on Monday he will actively work toward ensuring GOP lawmakers who vote to pass the &#8220;One Big, Beautiful Bill&#8221; despite campaigning on promises to rein in government spending will lose their primaries.
The warning from Musk, whose alliance with President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-hes-very-disappointed-with-elon-musk-fires-back" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crumbled</a> several weeks ago after he began openly criticizing the legislation, came as Republicans worked toward getting the 900-page-plus measure passed by the end of this week through the budget reconciliation process.
&#8220;Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!&#8221; Musk <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1939776586989150590" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X. &#8220;And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.&#8221;

Trump has similarly threatened to back primary challengers against Republicans, but he did so against those who have spoken out against the &#8220;One Big, Beautiful Bill.&#8221; One of them, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tillis-buckles-to-trump-threat-wont-seek-reelection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on Sunday he would not seek re-election. Another is Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), whom Musk <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1939823052566708554" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> he would support.
GOP leaders in the House and Senate are racing to get the legislation, which aims to fulfill many of Trump&#8217;s spending and tax-cut goals for his second term, to the president&#8217;s desk by his stated deadline of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/down-to-the-wire-can-congress-meet-trumps-july-4-deadline-for-the-big-beautiful-bill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">July 4</a>. Topline items include extending the 2017 tax cuts set to expire at the end of this year, boosting funds for border security, and cutting red tape for American energy production.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href="https://x.com/SpeakerJohnson/status/1939742277686964474" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X the bill will be &#8220;JET FUEL&#8221; for the United States economy. &#8220;It makes the Trump tax cuts permanent, eliminates taxes on tips and overtime, provides tax relief for seniors, and slashes regulations to spur job creation and economic growth,&#8221; he said.
While the legislation did initially pass out of the House in late May, provisions in the bill have undergone a makeover, in part because the Senate parliamentarian <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gop-furious-as-unelected-bureaucrat-yanks-conservative-elements-from-big-beautiful-bill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">determined</a> they did not adhere to rules for reconciliation. As of press time, the process was ongoing as the upper chamber worked through a vote-a-rama on amendments.
Some, but not all <a href="https://x.com/JohnCornyn/status/1939786916527735287" target="_blank" rel="noopener">proposed</a> reforms, including an offering from Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) to &#8220;punish states that give Medicaid benefits to illegal aliens convicted or charged with crimes like murder or sex trafficking,&#8221; do not appear to be making it into the final product.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), one of the Freedom Caucus members singled out by Musk, took a swipe at Senate Republicans for how their version of the bill is shaping up.

A lawyer who defended many of the peaceful pro-life protesters targeted by the Biden administration praised the House Judiciary Committee for voting to repeal the decades-old statute used to put them behind bars. 
Steve Crampton, a lawyer with the Thomas More Society, told The Daily Wire that it was “very encouraging” that the Judiciary Committee passed a <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/589/all-actions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a> on Tuesday from Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) to repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. The FACE Act, first passed in 1994, is a law that makes obstructing access to an abortion facility a federal crime and ostensibly provides the same protections for churches and pregnancy centers.  
In reality, Crampton noted, the law has been used to go after peaceful pro-life demonstrators, while attacks on churches and crisis pregnancy centers are often ignored. Data obtained by Roy show that 97% of all FACE Act prosecutions since 1994 have been against pro-lifers.
“You have ample law under state law and elsewhere to prosecute truly violent undertakings,” Crampton told The Daily Wire. “All the FACE Act adds is the physical obstruction component, which is targeted at peaceful civil disobedience acts that have historically been really cherished and celebrated in our country, rather than singled out for harsh federal prosecutions.”
Throughout multiple federal trials, Crampton defended peaceful pro-life protesters, such as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kidnapped-at-gunpoint-pro-life-activist-testifies-about-harrowing-fbi-raid-of-home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Paul Vaughn</a> in Tennessee and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-life-activist-sentenced-to-over-four-years-in-prison-over-protest-at-d-c-abortion-facility" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lauren Handy</a> in Washington, D.C., who were convicted under both FACE and conspiracy against rights charges during the Biden administration. Both faced over a decade in prison. Handy was sentenced to over four years in prison, while Vaughn was sentenced to home detention. 
In January, President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/they-should-not-have-been-prosecuted-trump-pardons-23-pro-lifers-targeted-by-biden-doj" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pardoned</a> the pro-life protesters, freeing Handy and others from federal prison. Trump’s Justice Department also issued a memo saying FACE would only be prosecuted in cases of extreme violence. 
Crampton said he was disappointed to see California Republican Rep. Tom McClintock voice opposition to repealing FACE during Tuesday’s hearing, as he argued that the law was neutral but abused by the Biden administration. Crampton said the law was inherently content-based, noting that you could only be charged under FACE if your intent was to prevent abortion and not just obstruction in general. He also said that the bias of the law &#8220;screams through the statistics&#8221; of the prosecutions. 
Vaughn, a Christian father of 11 whose Tennessee home was raided by armed FBI agents, told The Daily Wire he was happy to see the repeal advance. 
“The reality is it&#8217;s never done anything other than provide a federal hammer to be used against the pro-life community,” he said. “There&#8217;s not a law that it covers, that is not already a state law, or is not an infraction that it covers, it&#8217;s not covered under a state law.”
Vaughn says he would also like to see reforms brought to the conspiracy against rights provision from the 1871 Ku Klux Klan Act, which Biden’s Justice Department paired with FACE in their cases against the pro-lifer protesters. That meant that Vaughn and others — like 89-year-old communist concentration camp survivor Eva Edl — faced over 10 years in prison. 
Crampton agreed, noting that he would like to see the provision heavily revised to ensure First Amendment protections or even done away with altogether. He thinks that FACE should be dealt with first because state attorneys general still bring FACE prosecutions under the law even if the Trump administration is not active. 
FACE “remains a very, very powerful weapon in the hands of these left-wing attorneys general,” Crampton told The Daily Wire, adding that &#8220;protecting fundamental First Amendment rights ought to be of the highest priority in our national debate&#8221; and that pro-life advocates should &#8220;keep charging forward.&#8221; 
A full vote on the repeal has not yet been scheduled for the House, and the legislation would likely have an uphill battle in the Senate. Republican Senators such as Mike Lee of Utah and Josh Hawley of Missouri have been very outspoken about the weaponization of the FACE Act.

In a second attempt late Sunday night, President Donald Trump’s &#8220;one big, beautiful bill&#8221; prevailed in a critical committee vote after House GOP leadership managed to placate a handful of Republican deficit hawks who held out in the first go-around.
The House Budget Committee advanced the package in a 17-16 vote along party lines while four conservative defectors <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-one-big-beautiful-bill-hits-snag-in-critical-vote" target="_blank" rel="noopener">from last time</a> voted &#8220;present.&#8221;
It appears negotiations over the past couple of days were productive.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href="https://x.com/haleytalbotcnn/status/1924279405141983582" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> reporters shortly before the Sunday vote that talks had been &#8220;great&#8221; and &#8220;minor modifications&#8221; were made over the weekend. The exact details were not immediately known.
Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) asserted during the meeting late Sunday that he could not say what might be changing, emphasizing that the situation was fluid.
One of the erstwhile holdouts, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), <a href="https://x.com/chiproytx/status/1924296387040080036" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggested</a> the breakthrough had to do with moving Medicaid work requirements forward and reducing &#8220;green new scam&#8221; subsidies.
However, Roy also said he had lingering objections linked to the same programs, warning the spending &#8220;ultimately increases the likelihood of continuing deficits and non-Obamacare-expansion states like Texas expanding in the future.&#8221;
The bill is processing through Congress via the reconciliation process, aiming to provide funding for Trump&#8217;s domestic priorities, retain the 2017 tax cuts, raise the debt limit, and more.
Negotiations are poised to stretch into this week.
Republicans will have to consider that certain alterations in the final project to placate conservatives might alienate some of their colleagues.
Another component of the massive policy bill — the state and local tax <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/this-tax-deduction-cap-threatens-to-derail-trumps-one-big-beautiful-bill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">(SALT) deduction cap</a> — also threatens to divide the party. The $30,000 limit that passed has GOP members from high-tax blue states fighting for a higher ceiling.
While Republican grapple with their slim majority, Democrats are focused on pushing back on Trump&#8217;s agenda. They have warned the bill could lead millions to lose health care while benefiting the rich.
Johnson <a href="https://video.foxnews.com/v/6373018257112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said during a</a> &#8220;Fox News Sunday&#8221; interview that the next step in &#8220;the plan,&#8221; after a successful House Budget Committee vote, is to move the bill to the Rules Committee by midweek followed by a House floor by the end of the week.
Doing that, the speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-speaker-reveals-the-plan-after-trumps-one-big-beautiful-bill-blocked-in-key-vote" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Fox News anchor Shannon Bream, would allow House lawmakers to &#8220;meet our initial, our original Memorial Day deadline.&#8221;

Republicans in the GOP-led House are struggling to reach an agreement for the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap being considered for President Donald Trump&#8217;s &#8220;one big, beautiful bill.&#8221;
In the 389-page tax package <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-one-big-beautiful-bill-gets-no-tax-on-tips-and-overtime" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> on Monday, there was a provision to increase the SALT deduction cap to $30,000 for individuals earning $400,000 or less, up from the current $10,000 limit from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that is set to expire at the end of this year.
The House Ways and Means Committee advanced the tax measure in a 26-19 vote along party lines on Wednesday morning, but Republicans from high-tax blue states such as New York, New Jersey, and California are fighting for a higher ceiling.

GOP lawmakers who want a SALT deduction cap increase have star power in Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who is considering a run for New York governor after Trump pulled her nomination to become U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. She joined other New York Republicans for a May 8 statement that <a href="https://x.com/theblaze/status/1922021280120766600" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned</a> a flat $30,000 SALT deduction cap would not get their support.
&#8220;[It] risks derailing President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill,&#8221; they said. &#8220;New Yorkers already send far more to Washington than we get back — unlike many so-called &#8216;low-tax&#8217; states that depend heavily on federal largesse. A higher SALT cap isn’t a luxury. It’s a matter of fairness. We reject this offer.&#8221;
Some House conservatives, who are focused on cutting how much the federal government spends and reining in a national debt that is approaching $37 trillion, have voiced reservations about the SALT deduction cap.
&#8220;The top Congressional districts taking advantage of SALT (State &amp; Local Tax) deductions (i.e., they have high state &amp; local taxes on high incomes. Mostly Dem, heavily CA, Swamp (MD, VA), &amp; NY,&#8221; Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) <a href="https://x.com/chiproytx/status/1917715364605223414" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X last month. &#8220;In fairness, property taxes in TX are horrible, but we shouldn’t subsidize that either!&#8221;
Democrats are pushing in the opposite direction.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) <a href="https://x.com/hakeemjeffries/status/1920839627113480620" target="_blank" rel="noopener">indicated</a> that he would rather not have a SALT deduction cap at all, as it was before the 2017 tax law, saying on X that Republicans &#8220;must now fully restore it or be completely exposed for their phony advocacy.&#8221;
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/14/us-news/house-lawmakers-debate-medicaid-reform-salt-deductions-caps-in-contentious-marathon-markup-sessions-for-trumps-big-beautiful-bill/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) offered an amendment to increase the SALT deduction cap to $80,000 and pay for it by raising the tax rate on top earners from 37% to 39.6%, but that proposal was rejected by the Ways and Means Committee.
Trump himself seems to be on board with a change.
During the 2024 campaign, Trump <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/09/17/trump-salt-tax-law.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on Truth Social that he would &#8220;get SALT back.&#8221; CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/03/12/salt-deduction-trumps-tax-cuts.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> that after Trump began his second term, he told Fox News that he would &#8220;love to see something happen on SALT.&#8221;
Lawmakers will now have to negotiate a resolution before the tax package is added to other parts of the &#8220;one big, beautiful bill&#8221; and a final vote by the full House. Republicans have a <a href="https://pressgallery.house.gov/member-data/party-breakdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">220-213 majority</a>, meaning there can only be a few defectors for the bill to pass if all Democrats vote against it.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) reportedly <a href="https://x.com/thehill/status/1922650573746082114" target="_blank" rel="noopener">predicted</a> that Republicans would need until the weekend to reach a deal on SALT. He&#8217;s been gunning to have the House finish up with the overall spending bill by Memorial Day.
&#8220;We have a delicate balance to maintain to get 218 votes on one of the largest and most comprehensive and complex pieces of legislation that&#8217;s ever been drafted by Congress,&#8221; Johnson said, per a <a href="https://x.com/mychaelschnell/status/1922654897213673641" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> on X from a congressional journalist. &#8220;So yeah, my concern is always the vote total, but I&#8217;m very confident that we&#8217;ll be able to deliver that.&#8221;

The vast majority of House Democrats once again voted against legislation that aims to require individuals to show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in elections for federal office.
On Thursday, 214 Republicans and four Democrats voted for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/22/text" target="_blank" rel="noopener">(SAVE) Act</a>, enough for the bill to pass in the House for the second time in two years. Another 208 Democrats and no Republicans voted against it.
&#8220;Every single Democrat that voted against the SAVE Act voted to undermine election integrity and their constituents’ voice,&#8221; House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) told The Daily Wire. &#8220;It is shameful they care more about empowering illegal aliens than American citizens.&#8221;
The bill, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), seeks to &#8220;amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of United States citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for Federal office.&#8221; It also instructs states to remove noncitizens from voter rolls and establish a process for applicants lacking documentary proof to submit alternative evidence to verify U.S. citizenship.
While some municipalities in states like California, Maryland, and Vermont, along with Washington, D.C., <a href="https://bipartisanpolicy.org/blog/four-things-to-know-about-noncitizen-voting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">permit</a> non-citizens to vote in certain local elections using separate voter rolls, evidence suggests there have been instances of non-citizens appearing on voter rolls for state and federal elections in places where this is prohibited by law.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) released a <a href="https://mikejohnson.house.gov/uploadedfiles/save_act_white_paper.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> last year that warned of a National Voter Registration Act “loophole” in which states do not ask for proof of citizenship when registering an individual to vote in federal elections. It also cited evidence of non-citizens getting on voter rolls and, in some instances, illegally casting ballots for U.S. elections.
Critics of Roy&#8217;s bill have argued it is unnecessary and would create an undue burden on legitimate voters — in particular, women.
&#8220;The SAVE Act is yet another bogus attempt by Republicans to suppress the vote — and this time, they’re targeting women,&#8221; Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) said in a <a href="https://x.com/RepJasmine/status/1906747100764713203" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> on X, adding the legislation would &#8220;make it damn near impossible for millions of women who changed their last name after marriage to cast a ballot.&#8221;

&#8220;People in the radical Left are trying to say, &#8216;Oh! This is going to prevent, like, married women from voting because if they get married, their name changes.&#8217; &#8230; It&#8217;s all bogus. It&#8217;s all a lie made up by the radical Left. All this will do is prevent illegals from voting,&#8221; Roy said.

Henry Cuellar (TX), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA), Jared Golden (ME), and Ed Case (HI). Last July, five Democrats <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nearly-all-house-dems-vote-against-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">did</a> the same.
The SAVE Act’s latest vote follows broader efforts to tighten voter registration rules, including an executive order <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-signs-historic-executive-order-to-help-secure-u-s-elections" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> by President Donald Trump that threatens to strip federal funds from states that do not require proof of citizenship to register for federal elections.

Most House Dems Vote Against Bill To Require Voters Prove Citizenship — Again

In a major triumph for President Donald Trump, the GOP-led House passed a budget plan on Thursday morning that lays the groundwork for his domestic priorities in &#8220;one big, beautiful bill,&#8221; overcoming resistance from a group of conservatives disappointed by a lack of deeper spending cuts.
The amended <a href="https://www.budget.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/senate_amendment_h_con_res_14.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resolution</a>, already cleared by the Senate, provides a blueprint for lawmakers to craft legislation via the budget reconciliation process. Negotiations with GOP holdouts in the House stretched to the last moment, and <a href="https://x.com/cspan/status/1910350835969638674" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ultimately,</a> 216 Republicans and no Democrats voted in favor of the measure. Two Republicans and 212 Democrats voted against it.
President Trump immediately <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114314374220244880">responded</a> on Truth Social: &#8220;Congratulations to the House on the passage of a Bill that sets the stage for one of the Greatest and Most Important Signings in the History of our Country,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;Among many other things, it will be the Largest Tax and Regulation Cuts ever even contemplated. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!&#8221;
The resolution seeks to retain the 2017 tax cuts set to expire this year, raise the debt ceiling by $5 trillion, and increase spending on border security and defense. It also includes several billion dollars in spending reductions — far less than the more than $2 trillion goal in the original resolution narrowly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trumps-one-big-beautiful-budget-vision-clears-house-in-massive-victory-for-mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> by the House in February.
When taking up the initial House resolution, the <a href="https://x.com/AndrewDesiderio/status/1905623315378471013" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Byrd Rule</a> constrained the Senate to focus solely on fiscal measures like extending tax cuts and raising the debt ceiling while stripping out non-budgetary provisions. The lesser spending-reduction goals that made it into the Senate&#8217;s amended version proved to be disagreeable for several House conservatives.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) held a joint press conference with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Thursday morning before the vote to assuage the concerns of the House GOP holdouts.
&#8220;Our ambition in the Senate is we are aligned with the House in terms of what their budget resolution outlined in terms of savings,&#8221; Thune <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlwW0Zf-l9w" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;The speaker has talked about one and a half trillion dollars. We have a lot of United States senators who believe that is a minimum.&#8221;
On Tuesday evening, following a meeting at the White House with House Republicans, Trump chided the Republicans who still opposed the budget framework during remarks at the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) dinner in Washington, D.C.
&#8220;Just in case there are a couple of Republicans out there: you just gotta get there. Close your eyes and get there. It’s a phenomenal bill. Stop grandstanding,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/stop-grandstanding-trump-tells-gop-holdouts-in-budget-revolt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. He also <a href="https://grabien.com/story?id=522138" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned</a> that those pushing for &#8220;a little bit more&#8221; would &#8220;end up getting a Democrat bill or worse.&#8221;
There had been as many as a few dozen GOP holdouts earlier in the week, but in the end, Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Victoria Spartz (R-IN) were the only House Republicans to vote against the Senate plan.
&#8220;If you were trying to hasten financial collapse of our country and bribe voters to go along with it, the strategy wouldn’t look much different than what Congress is doing today,&#8221; Massie <a href="https://x.com/RepThomasMassie/status/1910338145826091429" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X. &#8220;The big beautiful bill cuts taxes while keeping spending on an increasingly unsustainable trajectory.&#8221;
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), one of the most vocal critics among House conservatives of the Senate’s budget resolution amendment, ended up supporting it.
In a lengthy <a href="https://x.com/RepChipRoy/status/1910376175450411382" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> posted on X, Roy said he &#8220;reluctantly&#8221; voted for the resolution &#8220;on the basis of three specific commitments&#8221; related to spending cuts. He alluded to Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114304634655292901" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> desire for more than $1 trillion in reductions as one assurance. Roy also noted the budget reconciliation effort provides &#8220;the opportunity for Congress to simply make a down payment on our $36 trillion national debt.&#8221;

Democrats who oppose the budget plan have <a href="https://x.com/HouseDemocrats/status/1909984102641512926" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned</a> that it could lead to $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid while benefiting the wealthy.
&#8220;House Republicans want to cut $880 billion from Medicaid to pay for tax breaks for billionaires,&#8221; the House Democrats <a href="https://x.com/HouseDemocrats/status/1909984102641512926" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X. &#8220;One thing is clear: The Republican Budget will leave hardworking American families worse off.&#8221;
The resolution does call on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which oversees Medicaid, to work on reducing the deficit by at least $880 billion over the next 10 years. However, it does not have instructions that explicitly say Medicaid is a target for cutting.
&#8220;Democrats are purposefully terrifying the everyday Americans they profess to care about,&#8221; the GOP-led House Rules Committee <a href="https://x.com/RulesReps/status/1910056694236819894" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on X. &#8220;Why? For political gain. We&#8217;d tell them to read the resolution, but they already know there isn&#8217;t any targeting of specific programs.&#8221;
A pair of Republicans, Reps. David Valadao (R-CA) and Bob Onder (R-MO), did not cast votes for the budget plan on Thursday. Rep. Donald Norcross (D-NJ), who recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-dem-suffers-emergency-medical-event" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suffered</a> an &#8220;emergency medical event,&#8221; also did not vote. Two seats remained vacant after Reps. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) and Sylvester Turner (D-TX) died last month. Special elections are scheduled for later this year.
The White House has <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/2025/03/fact-check-president-trump-will-always-protect-social-security-medicare/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> a &#8220;fact check&#8221; page on its website highlighting Trump saying on multiple occasions that he would not mess with Medicaid, along with Medicare and Social Security, while noting that fraud and illegal immigrants would be rooted out from the system.
Before the Senate <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1191/vote_119_1_00191.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> its version of the budget framework over the weekend, it held an overnight &#8220;vote-a-rama&#8221; with several amendment votes. During that process, the upper chamber rejected a Democrat amendment to remove the section that has stoked concerns about a potential $880 billion cut to Medicaid. Three Republicans — Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) — joined with Democrats and independents <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1191/vote_119_1_00189.htm#position" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voting</a> in favor of the change.
Now, with the budget framework approved by both chambers of Congress, lawmakers will work on developing legislation.
Under the budget reconciliation process, the Senate requires only a simple majority — or 51 votes — to pass whatever bill is devised, bypassing the three-fifths majority threshold needed to overcome a filibuster. Currently, the Senate GOP has a 53-47 majority.
Speaker Johnson <a href="https://x.com/SpeakerJohnson/status/1908619838915817864" target="_blank" rel="noopener">emphasized</a> in a post on X on Saturday that the budget resolution is not the law itself but only the &#8220;necessary kickoff&#8221; for the reconciliation process to begin. He said the &#8220;amended resolution in NO WAY prevents us from achieving our goals in the final reconciliation bill&#8221; and noted the process would &#8220;involve input from all Members and will keep us on track to send a bill to the President’s desk by Memorial Day.&#8221;
The White House released a policy <a href="https://x.com/WHOMB/status/1910050176787526124" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> that said Trump&#8217;s administration &#8220;strongly supports&#8221; the Senate plan, which it linked to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) effort.
&#8220;President Trump has demonstrated through numerous concrete actions his firm commitment to cutting wasteful spending,&#8221; the statement said. &#8220;This resolution aligns with his mission by paving the way for historic cuts to root out rampant waste, fraud, and abuse across the Federal Government, while responsibly addressing the debt extension.&#8221;

Dr. Eithan Haim, the surgeon who blew the whistle on Texas Children&#8217;s Hospital providing transgender procedures and drugs to minors testified to Congress on Wednesday about the Biden administration&#8217;s failed criminal prosecution against him.
Back in 2023, Haim <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-childrens-hospital-performs-sex-change-procedures-on-children-as-young-as-11-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">went</a> to the media anonymously and exposed the Houston Children&#8217;s Hospital for secretly continuing to perform transgender medical procedures on children despite the hospital&#8217;s public statements saying they had paused them.
Those procedures reportedly included the hospital inserting a &#8220;drug delivery implant&#8221; for &#8220;gender dysphoria&#8221; into the arm of an 11-year-old girl as well as multiple other children 15 and younger.
&#8220;They not only continued their program. They expanded it. All this was happening behind closed doors,&#8221; Haim <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/committee-activity/hearings/ending-lawfare-against-whistleblowers-who-protect-children-0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">testified</a> Wednesday to the House Judiciary Committee&#8217;s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government.
&#8220;For exposing this truth my own government manufactured a case to send me to prison for 10 years,&#8221; he said.

Two armed federal agents showed up to Haim&#8217;s home on his graduation day for his surgical residency, Haim said.
The Biden Justice Department charged Haim with four felonies related to HIPAA.
In January, just after President Donald Trump took office, the Justice Department dropped the charges against Haim. He had been slated to go on trial in February.
&#8220;This was a political witch hunt,&#8221; Haim told lawmakers.
&#8220;From the very beginning, I knew this was nothing more than a charade,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I knew this because I never violated HIPAA. I never accessed the records of transgender patients or released any identifiable information. All of it was fully redacted, de-identified hospital data, which is used every single day to report infectious disease outbreaks like measles or conduct retrospective research studies.&#8221;
Tina Ansari, the associate U.S. Attorney who was prosecuting Haim admitted to Haim&#8217;s attorneys that she had not reviewed the evidence before sending federal agents to his home, Haim told lawmakers.
&#8220;She didn&#8217;t even know what statute she was investigating,&#8221; Haim said.
&#8220;Ansari threatened my wife, who had just been hired as an associate U.S. attorney in Dallas,&#8221; Haim said.
Haim&#8217;s attorney, Mark Lytle, who also testified on Wednesday, said Ansari had implied to him that she would not interfere in Haim&#8217;s wife&#8217;s legal career &#8220;unless she became difficult.&#8221;
&#8220;I didn&#8217;t really know what that meant, but I took it to mean a retaliatory phrase, that if she&#8217;s going to be involved in this then there&#8217;s going to be something that&#8217;s going to come for her too,&#8221; Lytle said.
The initial indictment accused Haim of hacking into the hospital&#8217;s electronic medical records system, which Haim called &#8220;pure fiction.&#8221;
&#8220;The DOJ&#8217;s own evidence, their own evidence that they gave us in discovery disproved every single one of the claims against us,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Ansari and her team either never reviewed this evidence or they ignored it.&#8221;
Later it was discovered that Ansari&#8217;s family had &#8220;quite the special relationship&#8221; with the hospital, Haim said, and Ansari was later removed from the case due to her conflict of interest.
&#8220;This can&#8217;t be the end of it. There has to be accountability when the unlimited resources of the federal government are used to destroy the lives of ordinary American citizens.&#8221;
Also testifying on Wednesday was Vanessa Sivadge, the former nurse at Texas Children&#8217;s Hospital who also became a whistleblower on the transgender practices on children.

An election integrity bill is expected to make a comeback in Congress next week.
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/22/text" target="_blank" rel="noopener">(SAVE) Act</a>, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), seeks to &#8220;amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of United States citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for Federal office.&#8221;
Although the GOP-led House last year passed the SAVE Act, which also pushes states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls, the bill never got a vote in the Democrat-controlled Senate. Now, both chambers of Congress are commanded by Republicans.
On Friday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href="https://x.com/SpeakerJohnson/status/1905722988751937942" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> in a post on X that the lower chamber &#8220;will vote on the SAVE Act to ensure ONLY American citizens vote in American elections&#8221; next week.
The moves came after President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-signs-historic-executive-order-to-help-secure-u-s-elections" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an executive order that threatens to strip federal funds from states that do not require proof of citizenship to register for federal elections.
Only five Democrats <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nearly-all-house-dems-vote-against-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joined</a> with the majority of Republicans voted to pass the SAVE Act through the House last July.
Critics, including former President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration, argued the bill was unnecessary and would create an undue burden on legitimate voters.
But a <a href="https://mikejohnson.house.gov/uploadedfiles/save_act_white_paper.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Johnson warned of a National Voter Registration Act “loophole” in which states do not ask for proof of citizenship when registering an individual to vote in federal elections and cited evidence of non-citizens appearing on voter rolls in places such as Massachusetts, Ohio, and Virginia.
During an <a href="https://x.com/RepChipRoy/status/1904721299966193741" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> on &#8220;The Will Cain Show&#8221; from Fox News, Roy delivered a retort to his bill&#8217;s detractors.
&#8220;People in the radical Left are trying to say, &#8216;Oh! This is going to prevent, like, married women from voting because if they get married, their name changes.&#8217; &#8230; It&#8217;s all bogus. It&#8217;s all a lie made up by the radical Left. All this will do is prevent illegals from voting,&#8221; Roy said.
The House is also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-to-vote-on-restraining-nationwide-injunctions-stop-judicial-overreach-against-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slated</a> to vote next week on a bill that would stem the tide of federal judges who have issued nationwide injunctions against elements of Trump’s second-term agenda.

House To Again Vote On Bill Requiring Voters Prove Citizenship

Passing a stopgap bill to avert a partial shutdown of the federal government at the end of this week is the &#8220;most fiscally responsible thing we can do at this moment,&#8221; Texas Congressman Chip Roy told Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro.
Joining The Ben Shapiro Show for an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/bss-ep-2154-member-exclusive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> Monday, Roy argued in favor of the latest <a href="https://appropriations.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-appropriations.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/bill-text.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continuing resolution</a> as a means to give the Trump administration&#8217;s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) more time to identify fiscal bloat to cut spending.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not a huge fan of the kick the can down the road continuing resolution as the best form of how we fund our government, but what I do believe is that you&#8217;ve got to figure out how to empower President Trump and Elon to continue to keep the lights on to carry out DOGE,&#8221; Roy said.
Roy said he is still combing through the 99-page bill, which was released on Saturday, but emphasized that it puts a stranglehold on spending.
&#8220;It has no earmarks,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It doesn&#8217;t allow the defense hawks, who really wanted a whole bunch more money, to screw up the whole process by throwing a bunch of money into it and then the non-defense Democrats want more money. So this is a win to keep the lights on for six months for Elon. The Democrats have threatened to shut down, so they can stop Elon. So this puts them in a box. It&#8217;s the most fiscally responsible thing we can do at this moment.&#8221;
A partial shutdown, during which non-essential federal employees will be furloughed, is set to begin on March 15 if a funding bill is not passed in time. The Republican-led House is currently moving forward with the continuing resolution, which will be sent to the Senate for approval if passed by the lower chamber. President Donald Trump has <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114128213945115106" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsed</a> the bill.
Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) also praised the in an interview with Morning Wire on Monday.
&#8220;Well, what the bill does is essentially freeze the spending for the rest of the year. In fact, it actually lowers it a little bit,&#8221; Harris told Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley he was confident the bill would pass and fund the government  through September 30. Like Roy, Harris said this is crucial because it will allow DOGE to continue its work without interruption.
&#8220;We can&#8217;t shut down the government now because Elon won&#8217;t be able to do the work he needs to do, Harris said, &#8220;So we need to keep the government open.&#8221;
Yet the work does not stop there, Roy stressed.
&#8220;We&#8217;ll have to do our job in the appropriations process for this next cycle — which by the way, this appropriations cycle ends on September 30th,&#8221; Roy said. &#8220;So we&#8217;ve got to get all that passed for [fiscal year 2026] by September. So we should focus on that and then get reconciliation done, which is where we deal with mandatory spending and tax policy.&#8221;
The budget reconciliation process is already underway with the House recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-hypes-shutdown-averting-bill-that-conservatives-will-love" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passing</a> a resolution that outlines fiscal priorities for future spending legislation in line with Trump&#8217;s domestic agenda priorities on national defense, border security, and tax cuts.
Not all conservatives are on board with leadership resorting to another continuing resolution. But Roy insisted House Republcians&#8217; overall strategy for spending takes fiscal responsibility to heart. The congressman also noted that Republicans have such tools as impoundment and rescission to potentially help them get the job done.
&#8220;I&#8217;m always weary, as you are and should be — we both should be — of the excuses in this town,&#8221; Roy said. &#8220;There&#8217;s always an excuse not to deliver. What I would push back on people right now is — we&#8217;re delivering. A spending freeze in an inflationary environment is a huge win, trust me.&#8221;
