Republican lawmakers praised President Donald Trump over an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/president-trump-to-pardon-imprisoned-pro-life-activists-within-days?topStoryPosition=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">expected pardon</a> for pro-lifers prosecuted and imprisoned by the Biden administration over peaceful protests at abortion facilities.  
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) said Thursday that it would be a victory for America after The Daily Wire reported that pardoning the pro-lifers targeted by the Biden administration was an immediate priority for Trump’s team and could come in a matter of days. Under Biden, the Justice Department successfully prosecuted nearly two dozen pro-lifers under the FACE Act, a Clinton-era law that makes it a federal crime to stand in front of an abortion facility entrance.

Roy also urged the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/roy-introduces-bill-to-repeal-law-used-to-imprison-pro-life-activists">passage of a bill</a> he has sponsored to repeal the FACE Act, which has been disproportionately used against pro-lifers despite assurances it is also supposed to protect churches and crisis pregnancy centers. Lee has sponsored a companion bill in the Senate. 
“A victory for people of faith and the rule of law in America Unjust &amp; unequal application of the FACE Act against Pro Life activists stops under President Trump. Let’s pass my bill with [Chip Roy] to repeal the FACE Act to end these political persecutions forever,” Lee <a href="https://x.com/SenMikeLee/status/1882480643566878875" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. 
Other lawmakers also celebrated the news of the impending pardons. 
“Weaponizing the DOJ against pro-life protestors exercising their First Amendment rights was wrong,” West Virginia Rep. Riley Moore <a href="https://x.com/RepRileyMoore/status/1882473829517377850" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “Great news as the March for Life comes to Washington tomorrow!!”
Over the past few days, Republicans have urged Trump, who previously spoke out against the arrests of the pro-lifers, to issue the pardons. 
On Thursday, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) <a href="https://x.com/MaryMargOlohan/status/1882478265928982656" target="_blank" rel="noopener">highlighted</a> the plight of several of the pro-lifers currency imprisoned from the Senate floor. 
&#8220;This is a grotesque assault on the principles of this country. That is why I have urged President Donald Trump to pardon all of these pro-life prisoners unjustly persecuted&#8230;by the corrupt Biden Administration, and I do mean corrupt,” Hawley said. 
Hawley specifically mentioned multiple pro-life activists currently in prison, like Bevelyn Williams (41 months) and Lauren Handy (57 months), and those facing prison like 89-year-old Eva Edl. Edl, who survived a World War II-era Yugoslavian concentration camp, faces 10 years in prison over a conviction in Detroit over a peaceful pro-life protest. 
“From a man who used his power illegitimately to pardon his own family, to pardon his own son, to excuse his own kin of wrongful, willful illegalities, protected drug lords, and killers, and murderers, and kingpins, and yet sent concentration camp survivors to prison because they spoke up for life, it does not get morally worse than that,” Hawley said of Biden. 
“President Trump can turn the chapter on this dark period of our history. He can right the wrongs that this last administration perpetrated,” he added. “He can begin to restore the requirements that the conscience of our country puts in front of us.&#8221;
Citing reporting of their trial from The Daily Wire, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) <a href="https://x.com/leif_lemahieu/status/1882486514845962535" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent</a> a letter to Trump on Thursday urging him to pardon six pro-lifers convicted in Nashville last year, including one currently in prison and one set to go to prison.
Trump is expected to issue the pardons in a matter of days.

Roy’s <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2025/01/Bill-Text-Roy_FACE-ACT-REPEAL_119th.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a>, first reported by Fox News, would repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, a law that has been disproportionately used against pro-lifers despite guaranteeing equal protection to churches and pregnancy centers. Under President Joe Biden, pro-life activists across the country were sentenced to prison for their convictions over peaceful protests.
“Americans just spent the last four years being targeted by a weaponized justice system.  The FACE Act was one of the primary weapons of abuse — being used to politically target, arrest, and jail pro-life Americans for speaking out and standing up for life,” Roy <a href="https://roy.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-roy-reintroduces-legislation-repeal-face-act">said</a>. “While President Trump and his team are already fast at work reversing the damage of the J6 political prosecutions and persecutions through pardons and commutations, I am hopeful those targeted under the FACE Act will be given similar relief.”
The Biden administration successfully prosecuted dozens of pro-life activists under FACE, pairing it with a Reconstruction-era felony conspiracy charge that came with the possibility of over a decade in federal prison. As a result, activists were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-21-pro-life-defendants-targeted-by-biden-doj-ask-trump-to-pardon-them" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sentenced</a> in Tennessee, New York, and Washington, D.C., to years in prison over their convictions.
In Nashville, Calvin Zastrow was sentenced to six months in prison last year for his participation in a peaceful sit-in outside of a Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, abortion facility where participants sang hymns, prayed, and urged women not to get abortions.
In another case, Lauren Handy was <a href="https://www.thomasmoresociety.org/news/peaceful-pro-life-advocate-lauren-handy-faces-miscarriage-of-justice-sentenced-to-57-months-in-prison" target="_blank" rel="noopener">given</a> 57 months in prison for her participation after she helped stage a sit-in at the D.C.-based Washington Surgi-Clinic late-term abortion facility. She is currently serving her sentence in Tallahassee and won’t be free until July 2027.
When passed in 1994, the FACE Act was supposed to protect both churches and clinics, but the law has almost exclusively been used to prosecute pro-lifers. Data obtained by Roy shows that 97% of FACE Act cases brought by the Justice Department have been against pro-life Americans.
“Now that we have a Republican trifecta in the House, Senate, and White House, Congress should move quickly to repeal this law and ensure that no future president can weaponize it against pro-lifers ever again,” Roy said. “No more excuses, let&#8217;s get it done.”

At least 20 Republicans in the House are backing the measure and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) is expected to introduce similar legislation in the Senate.
Twenty-one pro-life Americans convicted under Biden have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-21-pro-life-defendants-targeted-by-biden-doj-ask-trump-to-pardon-them" target="_blank" rel="noopener">formally requested</a> President Donald Trump to pardon them, saying that the government was weaponized against them. The Thomas More Society, which requested the pardon, is also pursuing a repeal of the FACE Act through the federal courts.

On Thursday, the Republican-led <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-house-of-representatives" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House</a> again passed legislation threatening to impose sanctions on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/international-criminal-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener">International Criminal Court</a> (ICC) after the organization issued arrest warrants against Israeli leaders last year.
Forty-five Democrats <a href="https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/20257" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joined</a> 198 Republicans in voting for the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act. The bill once more heads to the Senate; with the GOP in control, the legislation may actually succeed.
The <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/23/text?s=1&amp;r=1&amp;q=%7B%22search%22%3A%22Illegitimate+Court+Counteraction+Act%22%7D" target="_blank" rel="noopener">legislation</a> would &#8220;impose sanctions with respect to the International Criminal Court engaged in any effort to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any protected person of the United States and its allies.&#8221;
Penalties listed in the bill would have the president implement restrictions on transactions of property and interests within the U.S., as well as visas, admission, or parole for anyone linked to offending ICC actions.

Chip Roy (R-TX) and Brian Mast (R-FL) first <a href="https://roy.house.gov/media/press-releases/reps-roy-and-mast-demand-sanctions-icc-officials-going-after-us-israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unveiled</a> the sanctions bill last May, citing reports indicating the ICC was prepared to issue arrest warrants against Israeli officials in response to the war in the Gaza Strip.
The ICC later did <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/icc-blasted-over-arrest-warrants-for-netanyahu-gallant" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issue</a> arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant — as well as Hamas terror group officials — a move that got bipartisan criticism in the U.S.

Johnson also noted he expects the Senate, now led by Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), to vote on the bill. The House vote on Thursday was the second in this Congress in which a bipartisan group of lawmakers passed a bill. Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chip-roy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chip Roy</a> (R-TX) demanded answers from the University of Texas on Wednesday over a $50,000 grant it provided to Planned Parenthood to research a sex education program, a letter first shared with The Daily Wire shows. 
Roy’s <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2025/01/1.8.25-Rep-Roy-Letter-UT-Dean-Dr.-Allan-Cole-3.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> was related to a <a href="https://www.usaspending.gov/award/ASST_NON_TP2AH000095_7521/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sub-award</a> of $49,458 given to Planned Parenthood of Illinois by the University of Texas Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work. The university provided the grant out of a $2 million award from the Department of Health and Human Services it was granted for the purpose of evaluating THRIVE, a sexual education and health organization. 
“Planned Parenthood of Illinois is a radical entity and the University of Texas’ association with it violates the conscience of millions of Texans,” Roy wrote to Dean of the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, Allan Cole.
The University of Texas has so far received $526,145 of the promised money from the federal government and has partnered with teams in Illinois, Kansas, and Colorado to evaluate THRIVE.
THRIVE <a href="https://tfyhi.socialwork.utexas.edu/thrive/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">says</a> that it provides “inclusive, trauma-informed sex education to youth” and that its curriculum is “designed to meet the specific needs and concerns of teens and young adults in foster care.”
Roy said that the university’s partnership with Planned Parenthood of Illinois was unacceptable, pointing to the organization&#8217;s <a href="https://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-illinois/patient-resources/gender-affirming-hormone-therapy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">boasts</a> of providing “gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) to transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive folks&#8221; as young as 16 years old.

“Considering that the University of Texas is second in the nation in federal research expenditures among public higher education systems, it is essential that we understand why federal grant recipients are entering into partnerships with abortion and so-called &#8216;gender-affirming care&#8217;— providing organizations and under what circumstances,&#8221; Roy wrote. 
Roy asked that Cole provide documentation on the award and the “rationale” for why Planned Parenthood was chosen. He also asked if the University of Texas had entered into any other funding agreements with any abortion providers. 
The Republican lawmaker also asked whether the sub-award was in accordance with Texas law, which stipulates that public money cannot go toward transgender procedures on children.

A Christian <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-pro-lifer-facing-over-a-decade-in-prison-says-hes-ready-to-go-head-to-head-with-biden-admin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pro-life father</a> of 11 described before Congress on Wednesday the armed FBI raid on his home in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tennessee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tennessee</a> after the Biden administration brought charges against him over a peaceful pro-life protest.
Paul Vaughn, of Centerville, Tennessee, <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/committee-activity/hearings/revisiting-implications-face-act-part-ii" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appeared</a> before the House Judiciary Committee on the Constitution and Limited Government on Wednesday to speak about his experience being prosecuted by the Justice Department under the FACE Act. The FACE Act is a Clinton-era law that was supposedly to protect both abortion facilities and churches from violence. In practice, the law has been used by the Biden administration to prosecute peaceful pro-life activists across the country.
The FBI arrested Vaughn on October 5, 2022, after he was involved in a peaceful protest at the Carafem abortion facility in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, in March 2021, where protesters prayed and sang Christian hymns. Vaughn was charged with violating the FACE Act and engaging in a conspiracy against rights, a Reconstruction-era charge meant to crack down on violence by the Ku Klux Klan.
“My house was assaulted, my wife and children were terrorized, and I was kidnapped at gunpoint by four armed men,” Vaughn told lawmakers of the arrest. “I had just sent three of my children to the car so I could take them to school when the house began to shake from a loud banging near the front door. I heard men shouting from my front porch, ‘Open up! FBI!’”
Vaughn said that he saw two unmarked SUVs with flashing lights outside his home and men with automatic rifles and a pistol aimed at his door.
“I opened the curtains on my front door to find three men with guns trained on the front door,” he said, adding that the federal agents did not identify themselves.
“I later learned at the same time three of my children, ages 12, 14, and 18, were being detained in the side yard on the edge of the woods by a fourth armed man. I was taken without the presentation of a warrant or identification when requested. Make no mistake: this was an armed conflict and I was unarmed. Lethal force was abused to abridge my God-given and constitutionally secured rights.”
Vaughn said that the FACE Act was passed as a tool to “stifle free speech and abuse the rights of Christian conservatives.” Data <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-harris-doj-seeks-jail-time-for-pro-lifers-convicted-over-peaceful-protest">show</a> that 97% of all prosecutions of the FACE Act since its inception have been against pro-lifers. Under Biden, the Justice Department has brought 24 FACE Act cases with all but two coming against pro-life activists.

“The FACE Act was ostensibly passed because of violence. But as my family knows very well, all it did was give violence the cover of law and place it in the hands of the government,” Vaughn said.
Paired with the felony conspiracy charge, the activists have faced over a decade in prison and hundreds of thousands in fines. Multiple pro-lifers are currently serving prison sentences, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-lifer-spending-thanksgiving-in-prison-grateful-for-opportunity-a-doj-sponsored-mission-trip" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cal Zastrow</a>, one of Vaughn’s co-defendants in Tennessee.
Vaughn, who was convicted in January, was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-denies-biden-admin-attempt-to-lock-up-peaceful-pro-life-protester" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sentenced</a> over the summer to three years of supervised release and has been prohibited from leaving the Middle District of Tennessee. He was given a special exception to travel to D.C. for the hearing.
Other testimony during the hearing came from Alliance Defending Freedom lawyer Erin Hawley and Thomas More Society lawyer Steve Crampton, who has served as lawyer for many of the pro-life defendants prosecuted under Biden.
The hearing was led by Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Dan Bishop (R-NC). Roy has consistently called for the FACE Act to be repealed and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-chip-roy-demands-fbi-doj-retain-records-of-pro-life-prosecutions-as-biden-leaves-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">demanded</a> that the Justice Department keep its records of the pro-life prosecutions.

Texas Congressman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chip-roy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chip Roy</a> demanded Thursday that the FBI and Justice Department preserve all records of its prosecutions of peaceful pro-life protesters across the country.
Roy said in a <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/12/2024-12-05-Roy-Biggs-to-Garland-Wray-re-FACE-Act-follow-up.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland that lawmakers had “serious questions” about the Biden administration’s “weaponization” of the FACE Act, a Clinton-era law that made it a federal crime to block the entrance of an abortion facility. Thursday’s letter, first shared with The Daily Wire, comes after the FBI ignored a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chip-roy-demands-biden-harris-admin-preserve-records-of-peaceful-pro-lifers-prosecutions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">similar request</a> from Roy in October. 
Roy, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, said that the need to keep records was “imperative” with the outgoing Biden administration and incoming Trump administration. The letter was also signed by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), the chairman of the Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Surveillance. 
“Congress has a sacred duty to preserve the rights of the American people, including the First Amendment, against any overreach by the Executive Branch,” Roy and Biggs wrote. “As we examine how to best protect Americans’ fundamental freedoms, the Subcommittees must first understand how the DOJ and FBI enforce the FACE Act.”
As written, the FACE Act is meant to protect both churches and crisis pregnancy centers. However, the Biden administration has disproportionately used it to go after pro-lifers despite an increase in targeting of pregnancy centers after Roe v. Wade was overturned. 
“However, since January 2021, the Civil Rights Division has brought a total of 24 FACE Act cases against 55 defendants, with only two of these cases — consisting of five defendants — concerning attacks on pregnancy resource centers,” Roy wrote. “You should construe this preservation notice as an instruction to take all reasonable steps to prevent the destruction or alteration, whether intentionally or negligently, of all documents, communications, and other information, including electronic information and metadata, that are or may be responsive to this congressional inquiry.”

Texas Congressman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chip-roy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chip Roy</a> (R) demanded Thursday that the FBI and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/department-of-justice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Justice Department</a> preserve all records of its prosecution of peaceful pro-life protesters under the FACE Act. 
In a <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/10/2024-10-10-Roy-to-Wray-Garland-re-FACE-Act-prosecution-preservation.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> first shared with The Daily Wire, Roy called on FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland to take steps to keep all documentation of their Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) cases. The FACE Act is a Clinton-era law that makes it a federal crime to physically obstruct the entrance to an abortion facility. 
Roy, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee&#8217;s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, has long called for the FACE Act to be repealed because of its disproportionate use against pro-lifers. He told Biden administration officials that he remained &#8220;concerned with the Biden-Harris Administration’s continued weaponization of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act against pro-life Americans.”
“As the Subcommittee continues to conduct oversight over the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) enforcement of the FACE Act, serious questions remain about the disparity in prosecutions between Americans supporting life and the violent attacks on pregnancy resource centers that occurred in the wake of the leak of the draft Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization,” Roy wrote. 
Data <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2024/07/30/joe-biden-department-justice-doj-face-act-pro-life-conspiracy-against-rights/">shows that</a> 97% of all FACE prosecutions since the law&#8217;s inception have been against pro-lifers, even though the law was passed to protect churches and pregnancy centers.

Peaceful pro-life protesters across the country, from Tennessee to Washington, D.C., have received prison time in FACE Act cases. Meanwhile, a growing number of crisis pregnancy centers have been attacked in the wake of the Supreme Court&#8217;s overturning of Roe v. Wade. At least 94 centers have been vandalized since the draft of the decision to overturn Roe leaked in May 2022. 
Roy said that the FBI and Justice Department should take steps to retain all documents, communications, and other information, including electronic information, from past, present, and future prosecutions. 
The Biden-Harris administration has frequently paired FACE Act prosecutions with conspiracy against rights charges, a Reconstruction-era measure that was designed to crack down on the Ku Klux Klan. A conviction on the conspiracy charge could carry a penalty of over 11 years in prison and hundreds of thousands in fines.
Efforts to have the FACE Act struck down are underway. The Thomas More Society has filed several appeals to convictions of pro-lifers that are currently making their way through the courts.
“FACE always was about protecting one thing and that was abortion,” Thomas More Society lawyer Steve  Crampton said last month. “Since the Dobbs decision and the overturn of Roe, abortion is no longer recognized as a federally protected right. So FACE is an act without really a purpose.”

The District of Columbia has refused to provide answers to Congress on the deaths of five premie-sized babies recovered from a Washington, D.C., abortion clinic, Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy said in a Thursday letter — including whether or not they&#8217;ve preserved the baby bodies as evidence.
In a <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/10/2024-10-10-Roy-to-Garland-Bowser-Smith-re-DC-5-preservation.pdf">letter</a> first obtained by The Daily Wire, Roy accuses Attorney General Merrick Garland, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith of a &#8220;lackluster investigation into the five aborted children, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-went-to-the-clinic-of-the-dc-abortionist-accused-of-gruesome-crimes-heres-what-i-saw">also know as the DC Five</a>, whose remains were discovered at the Washington Surgi-Clinic in March 2022 by pro-life advocates.&#8221; The babies were reportedly aborted by D.C. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/under-fire-abortionist-in-2012-we-would-not-help-baby-born-alive">abortionist Cesare Santangelo</a>, and their bodies have been in the medical examiner&#8217;s possession for over two years.
Pro-life groups believe that the babies were aborted in violation of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act or the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act. Thus far, authorities have shown no interest in investigating the babies&#8217; deaths, and since there are no laws restricting abortions in the nation&#8217;s capitol, D.C. authorities have previously said that the babies were aborted in accordance with D.C. law.
&#8220;As the Subcommittee continues to conduct its investigation into the District of Columbia’s and the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) enforcement of the Partial-Birth Abortion Act and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act,&#8221; Roy wrote in the letter, &#8220;serious concerns remain surrounding the deaths of these children.&#8221;
In February, Roy requested that the mayor and MPD confirm that the remains would not be disposed of. Neither the mayor nor MPD have informed Roy on whether they have preserved the baby bodies as evidence, he said.

&#8220;Future congressional investigations into potential violations and the sufficiency of existing law will undoubtedly be hampered if these remains and any related evidence are destroyed,&#8221; Roy wrote. &#8220;These children deserve justice, regardless of which administration is in power.&#8221;
Roy, who is Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government of the Committee on the Judiciary, renewed the subcommittee&#8217;s previous requests to preserve the baby bodies as evidence as &#8220;part of our oversight of potential violations of federal law and the DOJ&#8217;s directives to the D.C. Medical Examiner&#8217;s office.&#8221;
The Texas congressman called upon Garland, Bowser, and Smith to provide confirmation by October 24 that they would not destroy any evidence related to the five babies.
In February, after lawmakers and pro-life groups called on D.C. officials to stop the disposal of the baby remains, the D.C. Medical Examiner <a href="https://www.dailysignal.com/2024/02/09/exclusive-dc-medical-examiner-confirms-will-not-immediately-destroy-baby-bodies/">told the American Center for Law &amp; Justice</a> that it would not be disposing of the baby bodies on February 9, as pro-life activists and conservative lawmakers had feared. Their fears were based on a <a href="https://www.dailysignal.com/2024/02/05/exclusive-doj-advised-dc-medical-examiner-to-dispose-of-aborted-baby-bodies-lawyer-says/">Daily Signal report</a> in which Thomas More Society attorney Martin Cannon said that the medical examiner had informed him that the DOJ had given him the green light to dispose of the babies.
Cannon represents Lauren Handy, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-life-activist-sentenced-to-over-four-years-in-prison-over-protest-at-d-c-abortion-facility">is currently in jail</a> for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act when she sought to stop women from aborting their unborn babies. Handy has said that the babies represented important evidence in defending her from the Justice Department&#8217;s charges.
As The Daily Wire&#8217;s Leif Le Mahieu reported, Handy was sentenced to 57 months in prison and three years of supervised release in May 2024 after she was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/anger-erupts-after-biden-doj-gets-5-pro-life-activists-convicted-thrown-in-jail" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> on the FACE charges as well as conspiracy against rights related to her sit-in at the D.C.-based Washington Surgi-Clinic late-term abortion facility.
“There was only one thing around which Ms. Handy and her co-defendants were unified, and that was nonviolence,” Cannon <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-life-activist-sentenced-to-over-four-years-in-prison-over-protest-at-d-c-abortion-facility">said when Handy was sentenced</a>.  “They conspired to be peaceful. Yet, today, the Court granted the Biden Department of Justice its wish by sentencing Ms. Handy to 57 months — nearly 5 years in prison. For her efforts to peacefully protect the lives of innocent pre-born human beings, Ms. Handy deserves thanks, not a gut-wrenching prison sentence.”

Lee was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-89-year-old-woman-convicted-faces-over-a-decade-in-prison-for-peaceful-pro-life-protest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reacting to the news</a> that Edl and six other pro-life activists were convicted in federal court in Detroit late Tuesday morning of charges brought against them by the Biden administration accusing them of conspiracy against rights and violating the FACE Act. They could now be sentenced to over a decade in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines upon sentencing.
Edl, a devout Christian, was rounded up as a child and forced into a concentration camp by the forces of Yugoslavian communist dictator Josip Broz Tito in the aftermath of World War II. She later immigrated to the United States and became very active in pro-life activism across the country.

The other pro-lifers convicted on Tuesday include Chester Gallagher, Heather Idoni, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-life-father-facing-11-years-in-prison-says-biden-doj-is-targeting-conservative-christians">Joel Curry</a>, Justin Phillips, Cal Zastrow, and his daughter Eva Zastrow.
The charges stemmed from a peaceful demonstration, which the defendants called a “Rescue,” where the group sat and stood outside of the Northland Family Planning Clinic in Sterling Heights, Michigan, alongside a group of other pro-life activists. Edl and Idoni were convicted on an additional charge for a pro-life protest they attended at the Women’s Health Clinic in Saginaw, Michigan.
Each of the defendants pointed to their faith in Jesus as what motivated them to go to Northland to try persuade women from getting abortions.
Concluding arguments were made on Monday before the case was handed to the jury, which started deliberating Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. local time. The jury, composed of seven women and five men, took around 3.5 hours to find them all guilty.
A sentencing date has not yet been set as the lawyers have an opportunity to make briefings to Judge Matthew Leitman, who oversaw the case, to dismiss it.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) called on Congress to yank funding away from the U.S. Secret Service after it failed to prevent former President Donald Trump from being shot during an assassination attempt last week at a political rally in Pennsylvania.
Roy made the remarks during a Friday interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham on &#8220;The Ingraham Angle&#8221; while discussing the tragic shooting, which resulted in one person being instantly killed in the crowd and two more critically injured.
“Right now the president of the United States – the former president, and hopefully soon-to-be present of the United States – is alive not because of what Secret Service did, but because he providentially turned his head,&#8221; Roy said. &#8220;That’s the truth. The fact is the American people are sick of it. They are sick of Lloyd Austin still having a job after Afghanistan. Pete Buttigieg after derailments and boats hitting in bridges. Sick of the FBI and sick of the intel community – all of these people keep their jobs. And now the Secret Service endangers the former president and the sitting Republican nominee and they are acting like nothing happened.
Roy highlighted the Secret Service&#8217;s numerous failures at the rally, including doing nothing when he flew a drone over the rally to do surveillance.
&#8220;But here’s the deal, we have to stop funding it,&#8221; he added. &#8220;We have to stop giving these people jobs. We have to hold them accountable. And to your point, I’m glad Mike Johnson said we need one task force. We need to funnel it through one organized effort in the House.&#8221;

Chip Roy Calls To Defund Secret Service After Assassination Attempt On Trump

On Wednesday, the vast majority of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/house-democrats" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House Democrats</a> voted against legislation that aims to require that individuals show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in elections for federal office — a bill that Republicans argue is needed to combat the ongoing border crisis and shore up election integrity.
Five Democrats <a href="https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2024345" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joined</a> with 216 Republicans to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/8281" target="_blank" rel="noopener">(SAVE) Act</a>, which also pushes states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls, sending the bill to the Senate. Another 198 Democrats voted against the legislation. Four other Republicans and 10 Democrats did not vote.
&#8220;Today 198 House Democrats voted against preventing illegal aliens from voting in American elections,&#8221; House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said in a statement after the legislation passed, adding later, &#8220;House Democrats have now proven they believe that illegal aliens should vote in American elections.&#8221;
The Democrats who broke ranks to back the bill, which former President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/our-whole-voting-system-is-under-siege-trump-urges-republicans-to-pass-bill-requiring-voters-to-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">had endorsed</a> while saying it would prevent Democrats from cheating in the election process, included Henry Cuellar (TX), Donald Davis (NC), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA), Jared Golden (ME), and Vicente Gonzalez (TX).
Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/07/06/house-democrats-oppose-gop-noncitizen-voting-bill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> House Democrat leaders had urged their peers to oppose the bill, claiming it would create an &#8220;extreme burden for countless Americans,&#8221; make a passport the &#8220;only acceptable standalone form of identification,&#8221; and &#8220;further intimidate election officials and overburden states&#8217; abilities to enroll new voters.&#8221;
While some municipalities in a few states and Washington, D.C., <a href="https://bipartisanpolicy.org/blog/four-things-to-know-about-noncitizen-voting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allow non-citizens to vote</a> in local elections, evidence shows there have been multiple instances noncitizens on voter rolls in various states where it is not permitted, as noted in a <a href="https://mikejohnson.house.gov/uploadedfiles/save_act_white_paper.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> report</a> that was released by Johnson&#8217;s office in vouching for the SAVE Act.
The report also warned of a National Voter Registration Act &#8220;loophole.&#8221; This federal law &#8220;does not require states to ask for proof of citizenship when registering an individual to vote in federal elections,&#8221; but rather &#8220;relies on individuals to merely attest they are a citizen and eligible to vote,&#8221; the report explained.
President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> has already <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-formally-opposes-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">formally rejected</a> the SAVE Act. A policy statement from his administration said it is currently illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections and claimed that states &#8220;already have effective safeguards in place to verify voters’ eligibility and maintain the accuracy of voter rolls.&#8221;
It added states have &#8220;effective safeguards &#8230; to verify voters’ eligibility and maintain the accuracy of voter rolls&#8221; &#8230; and the bill does &#8220;noting to safeguard our elections, but it would make it much harder for all eligible Americans to register to vote and increase the risk that eligible voters are purged from voter rolls.&#8221;
The Save Act faces long odds of becoming federal law with the current power makeup in Washington. While Republicans lead the House, Democrats control the Senate. But that reality did not stop Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), the lawmaker who introduced the legislation, from putting the upper chamber on notice.
&#8220;We will only be able to keep this republic as a republic as long as our citizenship as Americans remains meaningful,&#8221; Roy said in a <a href="https://roy.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-roy-issues-statement-passage-save-act" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> posted line, adding later, &#8220;We must push forward, pressure the Senate, and keep up the fight for what makes this country great and what it means to be an American citizen.&#8221;

Former President Donald Trump encouraged Republicans on Tuesday to approve the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require voters to prove they are U.S. citizens to register to cast a ballot in federal elections.
With the SAVE Act getting a vote in the House as early as this week, Trump said in a <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/112756256184111025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> to Truth Social that it is important for Republicans to pass the legislation because &#8220;Non citizen Illegal Migrants are getting the right to vote, being pushed by crooked Democrat Politicians who are not being stopped by an equally dishonest Justice Department.&#8221;
&#8220;Republicans must pass the Save Act, or go home and cry yourself to sleep,&#8221; Trump wrote, adding, &#8220;Our whole voting system is under siege.&#8221; He also pressed for legal action to &#8220;get this stopped, NOW.&#8221;
Trump continued, &#8220;The Dems can’t win on their policies, the only way they can win is to CHEAT. They do it at every level of government, and they do it well. That’s how they get an incapacitated moron like Joe Biden elected.&#8221;
The Biden administration <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-formally-opposes-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">came out in opposition</a> to the SAVE Act on Monday, writing in a statement, “It is already illegal for noncitizens to vote in Federal elections — it is a Federal crime punishable by prison and fines.&#8221;
“States already have effective safeguards in place to verify voters’ eligibility and maintain the accuracy of voter rolls,&#8221; the statement added. &#8220;This bill would do nothing to safeguard our elections, but it would make it much harder for all eligible Americans to register to vote and increase the risk that eligible voters are purged from voter rolls.”
House Democratic leaders also encouraged their colleagues to vote against the SAVE Act.
While it remains against federal law for a non-citizen to vote in a federal election, many Republicans are concerned about ballots potentially being submitted by ineligible voters, especially considering the record number of migrants who have illegally entered the country under Biden. Earlier this year, Ohio Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/republican-led-state-finds-over-100-non-citizens-on-voter-rolls-requests-citizenship-data-from-biden-admin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> that 137 people were registered to vote in his state despite not being U.S. citizens. LaRose requested the Biden administration to send his office information on citizenship data to help remove non-citizens from voter rolls.
The Save Act, which Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) introduced in May, would require states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls in addition to the requirement for voters to prove their U.S. citizenship for federal elections.
The congressman <a href="https://x.com/chiproytx/status/1810355998688981301" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on X on Monday, arguing that his legislation should have bipartisan support: &#8220;What are Democrats fearful of?&#8221; he asked. &#8220;This is basic stuff, you would think…&#8221;
In his social media post, Trump promised to &#8220;pursue Election Fraudsters at levels never seen before&#8221; if he wins a second term in the White House, adding that &#8220;they will be sent to prison for long periods of time.&#8221;
&#8220;We already know who you are. DON’T DO IT! ZUCKERBUCKS, be careful!&#8221; Trump wrote, alluding to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/georgia-bans-counties-from-using-private-money-for-elections-after-2020-zuckerbucks-controversy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">donations</a> made by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg to groups that Republicans say backed Democrats in 2020.
