An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of longtime &#8220;American Idol&#8221; music supervisor Robin Kaye, 70, and her husband, who were both found shot and killed in their California home earlier this week. 
Police said that Raymond Boodarian, 22, was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of murder in what is believed to be a burglary gone wrong.
An investigation revealed that the murders may have occurred on July 10, per the LAPD, due to the fact that their office received two calls that day about a possible burglary. Police <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/15/entertainment/american-idol-robin-kaye-double-homicide">said</a> they flew a helicopter over the mansion at the time but did not attempt to enter due to the property being “highly fortified” and not seeing outward signs of forced entry. The couple lived in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Officers arrived to conduct a welfare check after a concerned friend called on Monday. 
That’s when officers discovered a broken window and signs of a “violent struggle,” the police chief <a href="https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/american-idol-music-supervisor-dead-1236022120/">said</a>, noting that both of the victims were &#8220;ruthlessly shot multiple times.&#8221; 
Kaye’s body was found in the pantry while her husband, Thomas Deluca, was found deceased in a bathroom, per <a href="https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/man-woman-fatally-shot-inside-encino-home/3745211/">NBC Los Angeles</a>. 
The suspect is believed to have scaled a seven to eight-foot-high fence with metal spikes on top of it to gain entry into the residence. Police believe he was in the house for about 30 minutes before the couple encountered him. 
At this time, there is no suspected motive, and the crimes are being treated as a random attack. A murder weapon has not been recovered.
The person who took care of the couple’s pool said there was another attempted break-in a little over a month ago. &#8220;Tom told me that somebody tried to break in, and the dog, he woke up and barked,&#8221; Mauro Quintero <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/american-idol-music-boss-robin-kaye-husband-found-murdered-la-home">told</a> Fox News Digital during an interview. &#8220;So they got up, and I guess they turned the lights on, and the people [ran] away.&#8221;
He continued, &#8220;At that point [Deluca] put something on the wall, so the people don&#8217;t jump in anymore. I guess he was trying to see if that [would] save him from another break-in. But I never expect[ed] that they got murdered like this.&#8221;
The outlet also reported that the couple had consulted with a home security company but did not proceed with installing the system.
Kaye worked as a music supervisor on &#8220;American Idol&#8221; from 2009 to 2023, which prompted reps from the show to issue a statement on her murder.
&#8220;We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom&#8217;s, passing,&#8221; an American Idol spokesperson said. &#8220;Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.&#8221;

The Woods, the West Hollywood cannabis shop co-owned by actor Woody Harrelson and comedian Bill Maher, was burglarized in the wee hours of Saturday morning, per <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-14731641/woody-harrelson-bill-mahers-cannabis-dispensary-burglarized-west-hollywood.html">the Daily Mail</a>.
Catalyst Cannabis Co. CEO Elliot Lewis shared footage to Instagram of the smash-and-grab burglary taking place.
“Our heart go out to Samba and Woody and their entire crew,” Lewis wrote in the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/catalyst_ceo/reel/DJz5es4Nd1t/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post caption</a>. “Back to back robberies shots fired just another weekend in LA. Does nobody care about the people trying to build something up and they seem to only care about those trying to destroy. Make it make sense. Please bring back some common sense.”
He also added the R.E.M. song “It’s the End of the World As We Know It” in the background.
The video showed five individuals clad in hoodies and masks breaking in at 4:30 a.m. and grabbing merchandise from the store&#8217;s counters and shelves, which the outlet noted had the total retail value of around $2,000 to $3,000.
“They went in and they just randomly took stuff off the shelves,” The Woods co-owner Michael Berman told ABC 7 LA. “While there was a lot of mess from the broken glass, nobody was hurt. They got merchandise, but they didn&#8217;t actually damage too much inside.”
The co-owner <a href="https://abc7.com/post/west-hollywood-marijuana-shop-owned-bill-maher-woody-harrelson-ransacked-thieves/16475192/">said</a> the same group of thieves, who are known as “The Jack Boys,” tried to rob another dispensary in Santa Monica on Sunday, but abandoned the task when a security guard fired warning shots. Berman mentioned that he believed one of the burglars was a child.
There was a previous break-in attempt in November, the outlet noted.
The Woods is advertised as an “oasis where a lush consumption lounge and environmentally elegant design converge, creating a tranquil space to savor California&#8217;s finest organic, sun-grown cannabis offerings.”
Harrelson has long been an advocate for the legalization of marijuana. A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/minnesota" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Minnesota</a> Democratic state senator was arrested on Monday over an alleged burglary potentially compromising Democrat control of the state Senate. 
Police <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/04/22/minnesota-senator-burglary-arrest-nicole-mitchell/73419507007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> 49-year-old Sen. Nicole Mitchell on burglary charges after they were called to a home after a report of “active burglary,” according to the Detroit Lakes Police Department. Police arrested Mitchell at the home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, at around 4:45 a.m. and she was later charged with first-degree burglary. 
Mitchell, first elected to office in 2022, was held in Becker County Jail after the arrest. The Democrat was released on her own recognizance on Tuesday after a court appearance before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, <a href="https://www.dl-online.com/news/local/minnesota-state-sen-nicole-mitchell-makes-first-appearance-on-burglary-charge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Detroit Lakes Tribune. 
The home Mitchell was arrested in belongs to her stepmother, who now has a restraining order against her. 
The criminal complaint against Mitchell alleges that she was wearing all black and hiding in the basement of her stepmother&#8217;s home when police officers arrested her. &#8220;I was just trying to get a couple of my dad&#8217;s things because you wouldn&#8217;t talk to me anymore,&#8221; Mitchell said to her stepmother, according to the complaint, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/minnesota-state-senator-nicole-mitchell-charges-burglary/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. 
The items she is accused of attempting to nab include pictures, a flannel shirt, and some ashes. &#8220;Clearly I&#8217;m not good at this,&#8221; Mitchell told police, according to the complaint. &#8220;I know I did something bad.&#8221;

Democrats in Minnesota have just a one seat majority in the state Senate. A spokesman for the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Senate caucus told CBS it was &#8220;aware of the situation&#8221; involving Mitchell. 
Responding to news of the arrest, Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy said that the allegations against Mitchell were “upsetting.”
“The behavior alleged is far outside the character she has established in the Senate and in her distinguished career in the military,” she said. &#8220;We believe in due process, and Senator Mitchell has the right to a full defense of her case in court.”
Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson called on Mitchell to resign. “The public expects Legislators to meet a high standard of conduct,” he said. “As information comes out, we expect the consequences to meet the actions, both in the court of law, and in her role at the legislature.”

Burglars broke into a Los Angeles money storage facility on Easter Sunday, avoiding the alarm system before making out with as much as $30 million in cash, a law enforcement official said on Wednesday.
The heist marks one of the largest in the city’s history and has left authorities baffled by how it was pulled off, The Los Angeles Times <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-04-03/sylmar-burglary-money-storage-facility-30-million" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. LAPD Cmdr. Elaine Morales said the burglary occurred at night at an unnamed facility in the suburb of Sylmar. The burglars appeared to have broken into the facility through the roof and breached a safe in the building where money from businesses in the area is stored.
The massive theft wasn’t discovered until the facility’s operators went in on Monday and opened the safe. It was unclear how the burglars avoided the alarm system, and the safe showed no signs of a break-in, according to the Times. Law enforcement sources also told the outlet that very few people knew that the safe was holding a huge amount of cash.
&#8220;It&#8217;s just mind blowing that you would never suspect it,&#8221; a man who works at the facility told <a href="https://abc7.com/la-heist-millions-stolen-from-money-storage-facility-sylmar-easter-sunday/14614219/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ABC 7</a>. &#8220;$30 million in the Valley, gone. How? Why? I&#8217;m still trying to process it. Was it an inside job? Was it just one person? Was it a group? You know, there&#8217;s a lot of questions.&#8221;
The LAPD, along with the FBI, is investigating the heist.
&#8220;The LAPD and the FBI have a joint investigation into an alleged burglary that occurred on Sunday evening, March 31, 2024. No additional information related to the incident is being released,&#8221; the agencies <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/massive-heist-nets-lost-estimated-at-tens-of-millions-of-dollars/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a joint statement.
Previously, the largest cash heist in L.A.’s history took place in 1997 when burglars stole nearly $19 million from an armored truck facility, the Times reported. Two people were later caught by police and <a href="https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2001-feb-28-me-31376-story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> for the robbery.

Burglars who have entered the United States through a visa waiver program have created so much havoc in Los Angeles that the LAPD has created a special task force to combat organized foreign gangs.
Many tourist burglars who’ve been arrested often entered the U.S. through a visa waiver program. Many were visiting from Chile and other South American countries.
“I can tell you that we have a significant increase in burglaries from organized groups that are outside this country, that are coming into this country and they are targeting high-end residents. We are addressing that specifically in a task-force fashion through multi-agencies,” LAPD Chief Dominic Choi said on March 12.
According to the LAPD, there have been over 900 residential burglaries across the city since January, some of which have been committed by the tourist burglars, who may be using new technology to circumvent home security systems.
On March 4, the Wilshire department of the LAPD acknowledged, “Wilshire area has been subjected to various residential burglaries, involving 3-4 suspects using Wi-Fi jammers as they enter victims’ residences. The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking your help to deter such burglaries.”

“Some sort of device by burglars that actually deaden, kill or stop WiFi from operating,” Police Commissioner William Briggs explained.
“The immediate fix for these home-alarm systems is to hardwire them, where you plug these systems directly into your ethernet in the wall and not use your WiFi internally,” Choi said.
Jammers and drones have been discovered in Beverly Hills and other nearby cities; last year, burglars were nabbed as they were staking out homes while they were wearing suits similar to military snipers.

Similar burglaries are occurring in Arizona. “These are Chilean burglary groups that are coming to the United States on a visa waiver program,” Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther admitted.
As far back as June 2022, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer started a vertical prosecution unit in June 2022 called H.E.I.S.T (Home Invasion. Eradication. Interdiction. Strike. Team.) to prosecute burglary cases.
“Defendants from Chile have posed a uniquely frustrating challenge because the Chilean government has refused to provide us with the criminal history of Chilean citizens utilizing the ESTA VISA Program to enter the United States,” the Orange County District Attorney’s office <a href="https://orangecountyda.org/press/orange-county-district-attorney-law-enforcement-officials-announce-more-than-140-defendants-charged-in-last-year-with-committing-o-c-home-invasion-robberies-and-burglaries-commercial-burglaries-an/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> in May 2023. “ESTA –Electronic System for Travel Authorization – requires criminal histories be provided before residents can enter the United States for 90 days at a time – unlimited times. Without criminal histories, prosecutors have been largely handcuffed in trying to prove why these defendants pose a greater public safety risk beyond a single burglary charge.”

Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/keanu-reeves">Keanu Reeves</a> had his home burglarized by men in ski masks who stole one of his firearms, according to a report from <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2023/12/08/keanu-reeves-home-raid-buglars-burglary-ski-mask-firearm-stolen/">TMZ</a>.
The LAPD responded to an anonymous call Wednesday night about a possible trespasser at Reeves&#8217; property at around 7 p.m. Officers didn’t find anyone after conducting a search of the property.
Then at around 1 a.m. that night, an alarm sounded on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">actor’s</a> property, prompting a police response once again. Several men with ski masks can be seen on security camera footage smashing a window to gain access to Reeves’ home. The actor was not home at the time of the break-in.
Sources told TMZ that at least one firearm was taken from Reeves’ home. The outlet noted that LAPD was investigating if the earlier phone call tied into the actual <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/burglary">burglary</a> later.
This wasn’t the first time the “John Wick” star&#8217;s house has been targeted by thieves. Reeves also dealt with two break-in incidents in 2014. One time a woman stripped naked and jumped into his pool when the actor was not at home. On another occasion two days prior, a different woman entered the actor’s home when a cleaning crew left the gate open. The unwanted intruder was found wandering around in Reeves’ library.
The actor was also granted a temporary restraining order earlier this year against an alleged stalker who showed up at his house.

Security footage allegedly showed Bryan Dixon, 39, trespassing on Reeves’ $5.6 million Hollywood Hills estate six times between November 5 and January 20. Per <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12842057/Keanu-Reeves-Los-Angeles-home-burglarized-multiple-men-wearing-ski-masks-smashed-windows-stole-firearm-fled-scene.html">The Daily Mail</a>, Dixon allegedly entered through a side gate and fell asleep in the home&#8217;s backyard. The security footage also shows the suspect looking over walls, smoking in the garden, and walking around an outdoor terrace.
Dixon returned to Reeves&#8217; home the next day to leave a “suspicious and alarming” backpack on the property. The bag included a DNA testing kit. Apparently, Dixon had been trying to establish that he and Reeves were related by blood, the outlet noted.

Philadelphia officials reportedly charged 72 people, including five minors and a social media influencer dubbed &#8220;Meatball,&#8221; in connection to widespread thefts from several stores <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/looters-ransack-philadelphia-stores-after-police-officers-charges-dismissed-in-fatal-shooting" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ransacked</a> across the city in late September.
&#8220;The DA and the courts need to make sure these people pay a price for what they did,&#8221; Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/philadelphia-looting-2023-update/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, according to CBS.
Civil unrest in Philadelphia broke out on September 26 when dozens of people engaged in a flash mob-style looting spree fueled by social media where they smashed their way into stores and stole bags of merchandise from retail shops, including Foot Locker, Apple, and at least 18 state-run liquor stores, authorities <a href="https://apnews.com/article/philadelphia-store-mob-thefts-teenagers-f2351d631f691aa081233b1df1bee54d" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Following the night of chaos, authorities were already in process of making dozens of arrests.
Assistant District Attorney Clint Orem, the acting chief of the District Attorney&#8217;s Office&#8217;s charging unit, reported on Monday that 67 adults and five minors have been charged — most of which are burglary and theft charges.
&#8220;A robbery charge, a burglary charge, a theft charge, receiving stolen property,&#8221; Interm Philadelphia Police Commissioner John Stanford said last week. &#8220;Whatever we can possibly apply to this situation, we&#8217;re going to apply it.&#8221;
&#8220;Philadelphia is not going to be the place that you can come and do this type of behavior,&#8221; he added.
Stanford said he believes the alleged thieves were part of a &#8220;caravan of individuals&#8221; coordinated through social media to hit different locations citywide.
He singled out social media influencer Dayjia Blackwell, who goes by &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/social-media-influencer-who-livestreamed-philadelphia-looting-arrested-charged-with-6-felonies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Meatball</a>,&#8221; as a possible leader of the group after she appeared to cheer on looters while livestreaming as they ransacked Philadelphia stores.
Blackwell, 21, was later arrested and charged with six felonies, including burglary, criminal trespassing, conspiracy, criminal mischief, riot with the intent to commit a felony, and criminal use of a communication facility. Authorities also charged her with two misdemeanors for allegedly receiving stolen property and hazardous conditions/physically offensive and set at $25,000, which she posted Thursday morning.
The looting in Philadelphia came hours after murder charges against former Philadelphia police officer Mark Dial were dropped. Dial was charged in the fatal shooting of Eddie Irizarry, who was holding a knife by his right leg, during a traffic stop last month. Philadelphia Municipal Judge Wendy Pew dismissed all charges, including a murder count, against Dial, determining that the shooting was justified, according to NBC 10.

Stanford attempted to distance the rioting that eventually broke out from the protests earlier in the day, calling the looters &#8220;opportunists.&#8221;
&#8220;This had nothing to do with the protests. What we had tonight was a bunch of criminal opportunists,&#8221; Stanford said.
&#8220;These were not protesters, these were criminals,&#8221; he added.

“I’ll invite any politician who says this border is secure to come down to Eagle Pass so I can show them personally if it&#8217;s secure or not,” Chief Manuel Mello of the Eagle Pass Fire Department <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6BCDqKg2-U">said</a> last month about his border town, which has become a prime site for illegal immigrants to come across the border, reportedly seeing roughly 2,000 illegal crossings each day.
“We’ve got people from all over the world crossing over,” he continued. “You see ’em in town, you see ’em everywhere.”
A huge 153,000-square-foot compound was built in Eagle Pass, which has a population of 30,000, to accommodate illegal immigrants.
“So what are you telling the Third World? Now is the time to come,” Ron Vitiello, former Deputy Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6BCDqKg2-U">asserted to CBN</a>. “To suggest that they’re going to be removed because they came here illegally, like it’s gonna happen, is a fantasy.”
“It’s never been this bad,” he charged. “Six to eight thousand people every 24 hours crossing the border. They inherited a border that was experiencing 40-year lows in illegal crossings. We’ve never had a situation where we have an uncontrollable surge on the border and the people responsible for abating it have walked away.”
“They come to this area because they don’t have to deal with a lot of cartels like in Tamaulipas, the other states,” Lt. Efrain Valdez of the Eagle Pass Sheriff’s Department said.
Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/migrants-killing-dogs-stealing-from-homes-prompts-texas-border-town-residents-arm-themselves">reported</a> that in Eagle Pass, illegal immigrants have killed pets, burglarized stores and rapped on homes’ doors late at night.
“I don’t feel safe,” Laura Ramos, who owns a business in the town, said, adding that she keeps “several weapons” at her store and has instructed her children how to use tasers. “It’s something that has had to be done because we don’t know what can happen. We don’t know these people or where they come from,” she declared.
Another resident noted his youngest sister heard someone rap on her bedroom window late at night. He said, “It’s pretty scary. We’re getting used to it already because unfortunately, nothing is really being done.”

&#8220;Fantastic Beasts&#8221; actor <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/justice-league-star-arrested-following-incident-at-hawaii-bar/">Ezra Miller</a> has been <a href="https://variety.com/2022/film/news/ezra-miller-burglary-the-flash-vermont-1235336304/">charged with felony burglary</a> in Stamford, Vermont, over several bottles of alcohol that were allegedly taken from a home that was unoccupied at the time.
According to a report from the Vermont State Police, the alleged burglary was reported just before 6 p.m. on May 1, 2022, and police opened an investigation into the complaint.
Upon reviewing the evidence — which included surveillance video and witness statements — police said that they believed they had probable cause to charge <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/actor-ezra-miller-accused-of-violence-cult-like-behavior-toward-teenage-standing-rock-activist-beginning-when-she-was-12/">Miller</a>, 29, with felony burglary into an unoccupied dwelling.
Police were finally able to locate Miller on Sunday, August 7, just before midnight — at which point they issued a citation ordering the embattled &#8220;The Flash&#8221; actor to appear in Vermont Superior Court on Sept. 26 for arraignment on the charge.
Miller has been in the news recently for a number of other issues, including allegations that led to two arrests in Hawaii earlier this year — one for disorderly conduct and harassment and another for second-degree assault. Miller also faces <a href="https://variety.com/2022/film/news/ezra-miller-iceland-choking-germany-harassment-1235307056/">several abuse allegations</a> — one woman claims that he choked her in a bar in Iceland and a woman in Berlin claimed that the actor harassed and insulted her after she said they could not smoke in her apartment.
A recent Rolling Stone <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-news/ezra-miller-young-children-vermont-farm-1372295/">investigation</a> also cited sources who claimed that young children lived in unsafe conditions on Miller&#8217;s Vermont ranch — which they said was also an unlicensed marijuana growing operation. One source claimed that firearms were left lying around and that a toddler living on the property had once been spotted putting a loose bullet in her mouth.
The mother of the child, who was not named in the Rolling Stone report, claimed that Miller had helped her and all three of her children to escape an abusive situation and truly felt safe on the property.
&#8220;[Ezra’s] home ranch has been a healing haven for us. They may have firearms for self-defense purposes and they are stored in a part of the house that the children never go in,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;My kids are able to relax more into their healing because of the safety and nurturing Ezra has been providing for them.&#8221;
In addition, Miller has also been <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2022/08/ezra-miller-has-now-been-accused-of-grooming-minors-and-leading-a-cult">accused</a> of grooming minors and of leading a cult. In one such case, the parents of the minor accused Miller of grooming their daughter — but she defended Miller and said that the actor had repeatedly stood up for others.

Law enforcement officials in Seattle arrested a burglar on Wednesday after he accidentally shot himself in the head while trying to flee the scene of a home that he allegedly broke into.
The incident happened early Wednesday morning when a resident heard noises coming from his garage, where he encountered the burglar.
&#8220;As the victim approached his garage, he saw the masked suspect, who turned and ran. The victim grabbed a broom and followed the suspect, who fled to a van in a nearby parking lot,&#8221; the Seattle Police Department <a href="https://spdblotter.seattle.gov/2022/05/04/police-arrest-burglar-after-he-accidentally-shoots-himself-while-fleeing-scene-of-break-in/">said</a> in a statement. &#8220;As the suspect was getting into the van, he pointed a gun at the victim and told him to get back. When he saw the gun, the victim turned around, and heard a gunshot moments later. The suspect in the van then sped away.&#8221;
After law enforcement arrived at the victim&#8217;s home, they received notification that a man had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his head.
&#8220;Officers went to the hospital, found the injured man was wearing the same clothing as the suspect in the earlier burglary,&#8221; SPD added. &#8220;Police believe the suspect accidentally fired his handgun while climbing into his van, striking himself in the head. Officers also learned the suspect’s van was reported stolen and had been used in another crime outside of Seattle. Additionally, the suspect is also a convicted felon, unable to legally possess firearms.&#8221;
Authorities said that they expect to charge the suspect, after he is released from the hospital, for burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm, felony harassment, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

A 60-year-old California insurance salesman who works out regularly had a heck of a surprise for a burglar, punching him out and holding him until police arrived, later stating, “I went Mike Tyson on him.”
Oak Park resident Sal Mercado, returning from the grocery store, arrived at his home Friday night and noticed an SUV parked on the street in front of his house with a man wearing a Dodger cap sitting inside, as <a href="https://www.theacorn.com/articles/oak-park-man-hailed-a-hero-for-taking-down-home-burglary-crew/?fbclid=IwAR2xIDoDg59gct0U8q0Z-kI1BCvgeR36qJLZ1iRmPpmgsouTkUaN0WHwzVE">The Acorn</a> reported. Mercado surmised later that the two burglars inside the house exited when he arrived because they were in radio communication with the getaway car.
As he approached his house, one burglar just inside his home ran out. Mercado recalled, &#8220;He starts to go through the side of me to get out of the house, but I went BAM with the right cross, and he went down onto the grass of the front yard, picked himself up and ran to the car.” The car sped off with the driver and first burglar inside.
Then the second burglar, identified as Alexis Provoste Aranguiz, holding jewelry and electronics, started to exit the home. This time Mercado was more successful. “I just didn’t give him a chance, just hit him, because first of all, I don’t know if he has a gun, a knife, any kind of weapon, right? You just don’t know. Your mind goes crazy,” Mercado <a href="https://ktla.com/news/crime-tourism-strikes-in-oak-park/?fbclid=IwAR1U0oBmrK4Lno61CpX--b-wx2u63NmoBpqoI7zj6RhpgGNlbBxJ3PqrYJk">told</a> KTLA.  He echoed to <a href="https://abc7.com/ventura-county-homeowner-burglary-crime-tourism/11718603/">ABC 7</a>, “He came at me &#8230; I didn&#8217;t know if he had weapons before anything could happen. I just went BAM with the right, BAM with the left &#8230; I went Mike Tyson on him. He stumbled then he fell on the grass coming out of the house.”
Mercado tackled Aranguiz and yelled  for neighbors to call 911. He said, “Our neighbors were all out, I’m yelling ‘Call 911,’ my glasses went flying … The only thing I didn’t think about was, the getaway car got away by this time.”
Still, Aranguiz managed to get free. Mercado said, “I tackled him and shoved him into the bushes on the side of my house again. The way I tackled him &#8230; grabbing his arms pulling them back, pin them on the back, and then put my full weight on his head, but he was all bloody and my whole arms were bloody.”
Aranguiz, who is allegedly part of a burglary ring from Chile, is now in custody, charged with two felonies. Capt. Cameron Henderson of the Ventura County Sheriff’s office admitted, “We see these Chilean burglary crews coming in, and it’s become pretty common in the last three to four years.” Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ashley Barrios said, “They’ll typically case neighborhoods in advance and see ways they can get in and out.”
Mercado told ABC 7, “The thought was, ‘I got this guy. I&#8217;m going to catch him. I want to make sure he gets prosecuted. I want to make sure I hold him down until the cops get here, because our government is not doing enough to fight crime.’ My mentality was, ‘Don&#8217;t let this guy escape.’” He noted that three patrol cars arrived within minutes, adding, “Kudos to the police department. They were there like that,” snapping his fingers.
Mercado concluded, “I was very fortunate and blessed that there were no weapons.” His wife Denise said, “We are all very terrified of the situation. They were very brazen to come on a Friday night. I’ve lived here for 30 years and there’s never been anything like this.”

A New Orleans man fed-up with having his the windows of his truck frequently shattered by would-be burglars equipped the center console of his truck with a flash bang, shocking a man who broke the driver’s side-window Friday night then fell out when the flashbang exploded as he leaned into the car. The would-be burglar then fled in the car he had arrived in.
A flashbang is a non-lethal explosive device that triggers a blinding flash of light and a sudden, loud noise intended to temporarily stun someone.

The owner of the truck who set up the device told <a href="https://www.knoe.com/2022/04/05/video-man-rigs-flashbang-after-truck-repeatedly-broken-into-new-orleans/">KNOE</a> that the broken window was the eighth time in the last six weeks a window of his truck had been shattered. He stated:
<blockquote>To see him like gleefully walk up and just smash my eighth window in the past couple months and jump in and then you know to see the detonation go off and his reaction. &#8230; I don’t want this guy to die for what he did, but I don’t want him to just be able to smash and grab and run away. &#8230; He probably didn’t get hurt that bad, but it wasn’t pleasant and it might deter him and his friends and tell other people not to do this too because, without something like this, there is no consequence because they’re not going to get arrested.</blockquote>
The area where the owner lives has seen vehicle burglaries soar 116% over the same time last year, KNOE noted.
“My condo is for sale. I don’t want to live there anymore because I can’t keep paying for windows,” the owner asserted, “It’s almost like a culture now on a big night, whether it’s something like the Final Four or you know, a holiday weekend, something like that, you can almost expect it in my neighborhood.”
“Leadership has failed and more ways than one when it comes to this situation, just crime in the area, like, I reported to the police almost every time and I don’t blame the police for this, they’re understaffed and like there’s too much crime. I really blame the fact that like these, these people get caught, and then they basically get bailed out,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Whoever did this, definitely, had a bad night. He might never do it again because every time he goes in there, this could happen to him.”
He concluded, “It’s a small battle in the war, I guess, that no one else is fighting,”
The New Orleans Police Department released a statement about the incident, stating, &#8220;While we understand the frustrations our citizens have with crime, rigging an explosive device to detonate inside a vehicle is illegal and a bad idea. Not only is there a risk of injury to yourself and others, there could be serious legal ramifications for everyone involved. Please call your District station or Crimestoppers to report illegal activity,” <a href="https://www.wdsu.com/article/metairie-man-truck-flash-bang/39641310">WDSU</a> reported.
