Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/georgia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Georgia</a> Governor Brian Kemp released statements on Wednesday evening after four people were killed and nine more were injured during a tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.
&#8220;Our hearts are with the victims and loved ones of those affected by the tragic event in Winder, GA,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;These cherished children were taken from us far too soon by a sick and deranged monster.&#8221;
Kemp said in a statement that he and his family were &#8220;heartbroken&#8221; by the news.
&#8220;This is a day every parent dreads, and Georgians everywhere will hug their children tighter this evening because of this painful event,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We continue to work closely with local, state, and federal partners to make any and all resources available to help this community on this incredibly difficult day and in the days to come.&#8221;
The school received a threatening phone call earlier in the day warning that the school would be the first target in a string of shootings aimed at five different schools. State law enforcement officials said that there were no shootings at other schools.
Authorities arrested a 14-year-old male suspect who they say will be charged with murder and will be tried as an adult.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey said that school resource officers confronted the shooter, causing him to immediately surrender and be taken into custody.
President Joe Biden responded to the shooting by demanding that more gun control laws be passed and that semi-automatic firearms be banned and some firearm magazines be banned.
Democrat presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris said that these types of incidents needed to stop, but she remained vague and did not call for any kind of action.
&#8220;Today, Doug and I are mourning the deaths of those whose lives were cut short by gun violence at Apalachee High School in Georgia,&#8221; Harris wrote on X. &#8220;Our hearts are with the students, teachers, and families impacted by this shooting, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement on the scene.&#8221;
&#8220;This is a senseless tragedy — and it does not have to be this way,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;We must end the epidemic of gun violence in our country once and for all.&#8221;

Trump then appeared to blame the Kemps for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis&#8217; criminal prosecution of Trump and several others in Trump&#8217;s orbit for their alleged actions surrounding the 2020 presidential election and said that Kemp was &#8220;a bad guy.&#8221;

Georgia’s Republican Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/brian-kemp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brian Kemp</a> signed a law that will require jails to check the immigration status of inmates and collaborate with federal immigration officials.
The law, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/georgia-governor-signs-immigration-bill-months-uga-slaying-worrying-la-rcna150301">HB1105</a>, would threaten to strip funding from sheriff’s offices that refuse to work with federal immigration officials when they have individuals in their custody who appear to be in the country illegally.
Kemp said that the legislation &#8220;became one of our top priorities following the senseless death of Laken Riley at the hands of someone in this country illegally who had already been arrested even after crossing the border.&#8221;
&#8220;If you enter our country illegally and proceed to commit further crime in our communities, we will not allow your crimes to go unanswered,&#8221; the Republican Governor went on to add.
An illegal immigrant from Venezuela named Jose Ibarra was charged in the murder of 22 year-old Laken Riley after she was found dead in a wooded area near the University of Georgia in Athens. An autopsy found that Riley had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, with the investigation also finding that Ibarra had dragged her body to a secluded location in an attempt to conceal his alleged crime. Ibarra’s charges included malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call, and concealing the death of another.
Ibarra had previously been arrested in New York in 2022 and was charged with acting in a manner to injure a child younger than 17.
The new Georgia law comes amid an unprecedented crisis on the southern border, with immigration officials recording over 9.5 million <a href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/nationwide-encounters">nationwide encounters</a> and 1.7 million <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-may-have-lost-track-millions-of-migrants-crossing-southern-border-congressional-report">estimated illegal immigrant gotaways</a> since Joe Biden took office. There were only 445,000 total reported gotaways for 2018, 2019, and 2020 under the Trump administration.

Speaking on his show “The Lead,” CNN’s Jake Tapper accused Republicans of “obviously seizing” on the murder of a Georgia nursing student that was allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant so the GOP could attack President Joe Biden on his immigration policies.
The body of Laken Riley, 22, who had been jogging on the campus of the University of Georgia, was found last week. Police used footage from video cameras to track down Jose Ibarra, 26, a Venezuelan illegal immigrant who has been named a suspect in the case.
“Republicans obviously seizing on this horrific tragedy at the University of Georgia,” Tapper intoned. “This girl, this nursing student, killed by an undocumented Venezuelan migrant, and they&#8217;re seizing on this as an example of Biden&#8217;s failure to protect the American people, and to secure the border.”
Tapper turned to former President Trump’s response: “Today, President Trump posted on his social media site Truth Social, quote, &#8216;When I am your president, we will immediately seal the border, stop the invasion. And on day one, we will begin the largest deportation operation of illegal criminals in American history. May God bless Laken Riley and her family.&#8217; That&#8217;s the poor nursing student that was killed.”
“What&#8217;s your reaction to that?” Tapper asked political commentator Doug Heye.
Heye obliged Tapper by agreeing: “Well, first, obviously, it&#8217;s a tragedy and we should — we should recognize that before the politics enter this. But let&#8217;s not be naive. Politics enter these things very quickly. And Donald Trump knows how to take advantage of a situation like this and exploit it.”

A young female Augusta University nursing student was murdered on her morning jog, and an illegal immigrant has been arrested in connection with the murder, but CNN insisted on downplaying any connection between illegal immigration and the murder.
The body of Laken Riley, 22, was found last Thursday with indications of blunt force trauma. Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, who hailed from Venezuela and illegal entered the U.S. in September 2022 but was paroled into the U.S., has been named as a suspect in the murder. Last year the NYPD arrested Ibarra and he was “charged with acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation.”
But CNN’s Monday report stated, according to <a href="applewebdata://204E779F-C1F6-4D78-B902-6E060EBDB9B1/v">Fox News</a>, “Ibarra’s status as an undocumented Venezuelan migrant is now being touted by several state and national GOP leaders to support their calls for tighter border security – though there is little evidence indicating a connection between immigration and crime.”
On Saturday, Georgia GOP governor Brian Kemp fired off a letter to President Biden regarding Riley’s death. He wrote:

After noting the arrest of Ibarra, Kemp pointed out that he had joined 24 other governors last September in a letter to Biden requesting “accurate, detailed, thorough data and information&#8221; regarding all illegal border crossings, relocation efforts, and how asylum claims were being processed. Another letter from the governors outlined actions Biden could take to secure the southern border.
“Frankly, Mr. President, your continued silence in response to these reasonable requests is outrageous,” Kemp charged. “The American people deserve to know who is illegally entering our country due to your administration&#8217;s failures, and what risks and challenges every state must now face.”

Georgia Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/brian-kemp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brian Kemp</a> (R) slammed President Joe Biden in a letter on Saturday and demanded answers about an illegal alien who is accused of murdering a young college student in his state this week.
Police arrested 26-year-old illegal alien Jose Antonio Ibarra on Friday in connection with the murder of 22-year-old University of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley.
Ibarra was charged with “malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call and concealing the death of another,” law enforcement said at a press conference.
Ibarra, a Venezuelan national, illegally came into the U.S. through Texas back in 2022 as one of the millions who have stormed across the southern border as part of the illegal immigration crisis that Biden caused.

&#8220;As I have stated many times in the past, your actions and those of your administration have resulted in every state in the country experiencing the disastrous impacts of an unsecured U.S. southern border,&#8221; Kemp said to Biden. &#8220;More than nine million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since you took office &#8211; with an additional, unknown number of migrants who were not detained and processed &#8211; while at least 58 people on the terror watchlist have been encountered between ports of entry this fiscal year alone.&#8221;
Kemp said that the arrest of Ibarra has also led to the arrest of his brother, Diego Ibarra, on charges of possessing a fraudulent U.S. permanent resident card.

&#8220;Furthermore, despite having been arrested on multiple occasions since September 2023 on charges ranging from driving under the influence to shoplifting, your Department of Justice has confirmed that Diego Ibarra has been released back into the community while his asylum claims are being processed,&#8221; Kemp said.
Kemp said that Biden&#8217;s intentional inaction to help provide governors with the resources that they need to know about illegal aliens being put into their state by the administration was &#8220;outrageous.&#8221;
&#8220;The American people deserve to know who is illegally entering our country due to your administration&#8217;s failures, and what risks and challenges every state must now face,&#8221; he said.

Georgia GOP Governor Brian Kemp urged Republican voters not to get distracted by the criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, saying that the case is unlikely to go to trial before the 2024 election.
Kemp made the remarks while speaking to CNN&#8217;s Kaitlan Collins on &#8220;The Source&#8221; about the state of the presidential race.
&#8220;I would just tell you that six months, eight months ago, I never thought this case would go to trial, before the election,&#8221; Kemp said. &#8220;And I think most people think that&#8217;s the case now.&#8221;
&#8220;So, as far as I&#8217;m concerned, I don&#8217;t think voters should get too distracted on all of this and just stay focused on what&#8217;s at hand, going into November, and let Judge McAfee make his ruling,&#8221; he continued, noting that McAfee was a just that he appointed because he&#8217;s a strong constitutionalist.
Kemp also said that the state is working on refining a piece of legislation that would allow the state to oversee district attorneys because some are not following the law.
He said that Republicans should instead be focused on selling the American people their vision for the country and what they stand for, not just what they are against, and cautioned that losing elections can have serious ramifications.
&#8220;I think, looking back, I mean, take the border for instance, right now,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The reason the border is a disaster is because we didn&#8217;t win the 2020 election, at the presidential level. We got beat. We lost the election. Therefore, you&#8217;re seeing bad policies that have created a disaster, at the border.&#8221;
&#8220;So, it&#8217;s imperative that you win to be able to get into positions, like I&#8217;m in, where you can actually govern. And if you look at my re-election campaign, I mean, look, there was plenty of distractions, people trying to talk about this issue or that issue,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And we kept telling the people of Georgia, what we&#8217;re going to do for them, what our record was, like getting the economy going, coming out of COVID, not backing down to people that were pressuring us not to reopen or shut back down, and to keep our kids in the classroom, and not to defund the police, and go after bad criminal actors, and antifa, and other people that were trying to burn down the City of Atlanta.&#8221;

Georgia Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/brian-kemp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brian Kemp</a> announced on Tuesday that he was sending more National Guard troops to Texas as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/illegal-immigration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">illegal crossings</a> at the southern border continue at record levels. 
Kemp said that he would be sending an additional 15-20 Georgia National Guard troops to help Texas with logistical and mechanical tasks. His announcement comes as Customs and Border Protection announced on Tuesday that they had a total of 176,205 encounters at the southern border in January, a new monthly <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2024/02/13/number-migrant-encounters-southern-border-hits-new-january-record/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">record</a>. 
&#8220;After record breaking numbers of illegal crossings at the border and seizures of dangerous drugs, weapons and violent criminals. No one complains there&#8217;s not a crisis at our Southern Border. And thanks to the failures of the White House. Now every state in the country is a border state,&#8221; Kemp <a href="https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/gov-kemp-texas-governors-border-standoff-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. 
Kemp previously traveled to Texas to support Governor Greg Abbott amid his stand off with President Joe Biden  over control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, an area that was once a hot spot for illegal crossings. 
&#8220;The crisis on the border is a national problem, and it demands a national solution, but if the Biden administration continues to fail the American people, then we have no choice, no choice but to step in,&#8221; Kemp added. 
While total January encounters <a href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/southwest-land-border-encounters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were lower</a> than the astounding 301,983 in December, they still were about 20,000 higher than the previous January record and roughly 100,000 more than Biden’s first January in office.

“As a result of seasonal trends, as well as enhanced enforcement efforts by the men and women of CBP and our international partners, southwest border encounters between ports of entry dropped by 50% in January. We continue to experience serious challenges along our border which surpass the capacity of the immigration system,” CBP official Troy Miller said. 
Miller added that CBP had intercepted 34% more fentanyl and 68% more cocaine at the border than in December. 
The release of the encounter numbers came just before the House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-impeaches-mayorkas-in-second-attempt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voted to impeach</a> Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas 214-213 over his handling of the border.

Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp ripped President Joe Biden during an interview over the weekend on the national security and human rights catastrophe on the U.S. southern border.
Kemp made the remarks when asked by ABC News&#8217;s Jonathan Karl on Sunday about Republicans in the U.S. Congress shooting down a controversial border bill that was introduced last week in the Senate.
&#8220;It was not a very productive week in Washington, D.C., whether it was for the Congress or for the president,&#8221; Kemp said. &#8220;And I think that’s what frustrates people when you look around the country and it’s why – you know I talked yesterday about what Republican governors are doing and showing leadership on issues and getting things done.&#8221;
&#8220;I think people in D.C. ought to be voting on policy, not what somebody’s telling them what to do. That’s just my personal opinion,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;But I also think, for President Biden, trying to pass the buck and blame Republicans now about the issue at the border, it’s just a simple lack of leadership.&#8221;
Kemp said that he spoke with Democrats in the Senate more than a year ago and told them to &#8220;secure the dang border.&#8221;
&#8220;That’s what the people want. The governors are willing to help in those efforts. You can see how successful it has been with what Greg Abbott’s done in Texas,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;But look, we can’t just secure one state’s border. We’ve got to secure the whole southern border. And it takes the president to do that. He could do that or start doing that today and quit passing the buck on, you know, some legislation that pass – you know, that didn’t pass this week, when we’ve been dealing with his issue for years now.&#8221;

Georgia Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/brian-kemp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brian Kemp</a> and Montana Governor Greg Gianforte slammed President Joe Biden during a joint interview on Friday for the impact that his border crisis is having on their states and for his lack of action to address the issue.
Kemp said that Republican Governors did not coordinate their responses to help Texas Governor Greg Abbott this week because the dire situation was such a &#8220;no brainer.&#8221;
&#8220;Every state now is a border state,&#8221; he said. &#8220;When you have Joe Biden&#8217;s Democratic opponent saying, &#8216;This is outrageous and out of control at the border&#8217;; when you have Democratic mayors across the country that are saying, &#8216;This is outrageous and something&#8217;s got to be done.&#8217; And the Republican governors, we have been standing in solidarity for well over a year, couple years now on the disaster at the border. I&#8217;ve been down there four times myself, the White House and Joe Biden just obviously doesn&#8217;t get it or they don&#8217;t care.&#8221;
Gianforte said that 10 million illegal aliens have crossed into the U.S. under Biden&#8217;s watch, nearly 10 times the population of the state of Montana.
&#8220;We&#8217;re seeing the implications here on the northern border,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve been arresting Mexican cartel drug dealers in the state of Montana. We are being overwhelmed. There is no word to describe this except invasion. The open border policy of the Biden administration is making every state a border state as Governor Kemp said, and it&#8217;s time for the administration to step up and do their job. That&#8217;s why it was not a question about whether you&#8217;re going to stand with Governor Abbott in protecting the southern border.&#8221;
Kemp said that Republicans in Congress should do whatever they can to secure any wins they can get right now while Republicans pressure Biden to use executive action to bring an immediate end to damaging policies like catch and release.
