Trans violence. It&#8217;s the thing Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago wakes up every morning thinking about. It&#8217;s what the liberal media wants you to believe is the greatest threat to American life. And it’s a thing that basically doesn&#8217;t exist.
Except, of course, in the fever dream of progressive politics.
Johnson <a href="https://x.com/ChicagosMayor/status/2068740734971412745">posted</a> to X this weekend, breathlessly announcing that since declaring a &#8220;Transfemicide State of Emergency,&#8221; his administration has &#8220;strengthened the City&#8217;s capacity to support LGBTQ+ Chicagoans.&#8221;
Transwhatnow? Did they mean Transformers? Is someone out there killing Optimus Prime?!
No, no. They&#8217;re referring to the alleged epidemic of hate crimes and violence against trans women of color. The sort that supposedly prompted Johnson&#8217;s Mayoral Working Group to recommend sweeping policy changes and spending taxpayer money to do it.
The impetus for this entire panic? <a href="https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:f7516829-6188-4b9c-9203-81c075e2696f">Twenty-two deaths</a>. Mostly black and brown trans Chicagoans. Over a span of 21 years.
That&#8217;s the emergency.
Here&#8217;s the only problem: it&#8217;s not an epidemic. It&#8217;s not even a trend. It&#8217;s a political narrative dressed up in grief, designed to shake loose cash from guilty consciences and win applause from the blue-haired contingent. The claim that there is some wave of anti-trans hate violence sweeping America has <a href="https://www.city-journal.org/article/human-rights-campaign-transgender-murders-white-supremacy?utm_source=virtuous&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=cjdaily">zero</a> basis in reality.
Let&#8217;s start with the most basic question: Are transgender people being murdered at alarming rates?
Nope. The <a href="https://dont-shoot-the-data.github.io/TCLEAR/">only peer-reviewed study</a> to estimate transgender homicide rates found the general population homicide rate was 25.8 per 100,000, while the transgender rate was approximately 3.66 per 100,000, roughly one-seventh the general population rate.
Not an epidemic. The opposite of an epidemic. Trans people are statistically safer than the rest of us.
And who is doing the killing? Not the white supremacists your local diversity officer keeps warning you about. As independent researchers Vincent Lundgren and Colin Wright documented in City Journal, among identified suspects in transgender homicide cases, black suspects account for 65.1% of perpetrators, while white suspects account for 18%.
Huh.
They’ve been doing this for years. In 2020, the very year the Human Rights Campaign published a statement attributing the deaths of “our black trans siblings” to “an epidemic of violence” fueled by “systems of white supremacy,” not a single white suspect was identified in the verified cases.
Not one. Zero. Zilch. But sure, Karen, white supremacy.
The real driver of these deaths was intimate partner violence. The rest? Drug disputes. Robbery. Sex work gone wrong.
Tragedy? Yes. Anti-trans hate crimes at the hands of roaming bigots? Not even close.
Johnson must know this. His own &#8220;Transfemicide&#8221; report cites 22 names — presented as martyrs of anti-trans hatred. But when the actual cases are examined, only two of those deaths were even directly tied to a victim&#8217;s trans identity. De&#8217;Janay Stanton, killed in 2018 by a black boyfriend who became suicidal over the stigma of dating a trans person. And Selena Reyes-Hernandez, killed in 2020 by Orlando Perez upon discovering she was biologically a dude.
Maybe that information should’ve been disclosed before things got steamy?
Enter New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a willing understudy in the same grift. He kicked off LQBTQABCDEFG month by sharing articles warning of an &#8220;uptick in violent killings&#8221; of transgender people. 
 
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdani-pushes-one-of-the-lefts-favorite-hoaxes">Small problem:</a> none of the deaths cited were classified as anti-trans hate crimes. Nearly all were domestic violence or personal disputes. But why let facts get in the way of a good fundraising pitch?! 
 
Mamdani also announced $15 million in taxpayer funding for gender-affirming care, launched a citywide &#8220;Trans Rights Are Human Rights&#8221; public awareness campaign, and established New York City&#8217;s first Mayor&#8217;s Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs. And Johnson&#8217;s Transfemicide Working Group, for its part, directs taxpayer-funded city programs toward trans initiatives with similar enthusiasm. 
 
It&#8217;s all smoke and mirrors, and the taxpayers are stuck with the tab.
Meanwhile, back in the Bullet-Wind City, the actual emergency is unfolding on the streets. Through the first four months of 2026, Chicago has <a href="https://news.wttw.com/2026/05/05/shootings-homicides-chicago-year-they-continue-outpace-last-year-s-historic-lows">seen</a> 130 homicides, up from 120 during the same period last year. Shootings have also increased, with 421 recorded so far this year, up 5% compared to 2025. Just last weekend, 39 people were shot, six of them fatally.
These are not hate crimes manufactured by advocacy groups to maximize donor engagement. (Though we have the SPLC for that) These are real people dying in a city governed by a man who is currently convening task forces about a 21-year-long list of 22 names.
The problem is not the lifestyle choices and body counts of 0.5% of the American population. The problem is gang violence, the erosion of policing, Democrat policies that have turned whole neighborhoods into war zones, and a mayor more concerned with ideological optics than with bodies on the sidewalk. The victims are overwhelmingly male, overwhelmingly black, and overwhelmingly failed by the very politicians who claim to be their champions.
Blaming white supremacy or a made-up crisis won’t fix any of this.
The whole operation is a magic trick: manufacture a crisis, glamorize the victim class, redirect outrage away from inconvenient truths, and shake the tin cup at useful rich idiots until it rattles. Make fetch happen. Print &#8220;Transfemicide&#8221; on a press release. Watch the money flow.
Mayor Johnson — and Mayor Mamdani, while we&#8217;re at it — here&#8217;s a thought: clean up crime, get serious about policing, and stop using the bodies of actual murder victims as props for an ideology. Once you do that, your trans numbers might just take care of themselves.
The people dying in your cities don&#8217;t need a new word or a working group. They need a mayor and a mental check.

President Donald Trump has spoken with the family of Sheridan Gorman, the college freshman who was allegedly fatally shot by an illegal immigrant roaming Chicago earlier this month, a White House official told The Daily Wire Monday.
Gorman was allegedly shot and killed as she tried to run from crazed <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rare-reason-keeps-illegal-alien-suspect-in-loyola-student-slaying-from-facing-court?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=3&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Rare+Reason+Keeps+Illegal+Alien+Suspect+In+Loyola+Student+Slaying+From+Facing+Court">Venezuelan illegal immigrant</a> Jose Medina-Medina. The Loyola University student was walking with friends to see the Northern Lights around 1 a.m. on March 19 when she was fatally shot, her family said.
Medina, 25, was released after crossing the southern border illegally in May 2023 before he turned up in Chicago, where he&#8217;s accused of shoplifting from a Macy&#8217;s that June, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The Venezuelan national never appeared for a hearing in the earlier case, leading a judge to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Days after the killing, Trump slammed the Biden administration’s “open door” policies for Medina&#8217;s release.
“It’s devastating. These people were let in by Biden. We’re getting them out. We’re getting them out fast. That’s why ICE is so important. They are doing such a good job,” Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-doesnt-hold-back-when-daily-wire-asks-about-loyola-murder-suspect-and-biden-era-link">told</a> Daily Wire reporter Mary Margaret Olohan. “This animal, I saw the whole thing last night. They gave me a briefing.”

Gorman&#8217;s grieving mother, Jessica, delivered an emotional speech during a Saturday vigil for her late daughter.
&#8220;I want to say this gently, but honestly, as a mom, I&#8217;m angry,&#8221; Jessica Gorman said as she fought back tears. &#8220;I&#8217;m like completely heartbroken, and we are going to fight for justice for our sweet Sheridan, and we&#8217;re going to fight for change.&#8221;
&#8220;But we know, not everyone will see it the same way we do and not everyone will approach it the way we will, and that&#8217;s okay,&#8221; Jessica said, adding, &#8220;At the heart of all of this, we all want the same thing — for your children and for ours to be safe, to be protected, and to come home. Because, at the end of the day, that&#8217;s what this is all about. All of our kids, every single one of them, protecting them, loving them, showing up for them. And that is how we honor her.&#8221;
The family has criticized the responses of Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, along with Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, to Gorman&#8217;s tragic slaying.
Initially, Johnson <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/24/us-news/chicago-mayor-asked-about-citys-immigration-policies-after-illegal-immigrant-allegedly-killed-college-student/?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> he planned to eventually speak with the family.
It is not clear whether or not that&#8217;s happened, as his office didn&#8217;t respond to a request for comment.
Pritzker&#8217;s office also didn&#8217;t immediately respond when asked if the Democratic official had spoken with Gorman&#8217;s family.
Medina appeared in court Friday. His initial hearing was delayed due to his hospitalization for tuberculosis.
The illegal immigrant&#8217;s defense has pointed to a 2018 incident where Medina was shot in the head while being robbed in Colombia, <a href="https://wgntv.com/news/wgn-investigates/what-we-know-about-loyola-murder-suspect-jose-medina/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to WGN. The public defender presented a photo appearing to show Medina with a dent in his forehead, arguing that he is developmentally delayed and can&#8217;t read or write.
At one point, Medina asked to go back to Colombia, but was sent on a bus to Chicago, his attorney said. It was at a Windy City migrant shelter where he contracted tuberculosis.
Medina&#8217;s mother came to Chicago “to care for him” and lived with him in a shelter near Loyola&#8217;s campus, according to WGN.

The family of Sheridan Gorman, the college student who was fatally shot by an illegal immigrant in Chicago, are slamming the sanctuary-policy-supporting leaders in Illinois for their response to her killing.

The 18-year-old Loyola University freshman was walking with friends to see the Northern Lights when she was fatally shot, her family said.
After former President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration released Medina at the border in May 2023, he wound up in Chicago, where he allegedly shoplifted from a local Macy&#8217;s that June, according to the Chicago Tribune. Medina failed to show up for his hearing in the case before a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson responded nearly a week after the killing, calling it an act of &#8220;senseless violence&#8221; and a &#8220;tragedy.&#8221;
&#8220;As I prepare to send my oldest son off to college this fall, I can&#8217;t stop thinking about the Gorman family as they bear the unimaginable loss of their daughter Sheridan. What I want for my child is what I want for every single child and every single person in this city. That is to be safe and to live out their purpose without fear. Disturbing acts of violence like this set us back as a city,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;We will not tolerate those who break the law and put the lives of others in danger.&#8221;
&#8220;I believe that we&#8217;re all grieving the loss of Sheridan and other folks who have lost their lives because of senseless violence.&#8221;
Gorman&#8217;s family hit back at Johnson, calling for accountability in the case.
&#8220;What happened to Sheridan cannot be reduced to a ‘senseless tragedy,’ nor can it be explained in general terms about public safety. Sheridan was our daughter. She was 18 years old. She was doing something entirely normal — walking near her campus with friends. She should be here,&#8221; the Gorman family said, according to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/gorman-family-calls-out-johnson-pritzker-following-college-students-killing-chicago" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>.
&#8220;Calling this ‘senseless’ is not enough. There must be a clear and honest accounting of what went wrong,&#8221; the family said. &#8220;We will not allow Sheridan’s life to be reduced to a talking point or a generalization. We expect leadership that is willing to confront hard truths and ensure that what happened to her does not happen again.&#8221;
Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker&#8217;s office released its first statement on Gorman’s killing Tuesday afternoon.
“Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and Loyola University community grieving the senseless murder of Sheridan Gorman. Violent crime has no place in our streets, and we expect the alleged perpetrator to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” a spokesperson for Pritzker told The Daily Wire.
“The Trump Administration needs to stop politicizing heinous tragedies and instead focus on real solutions, like reinstating federal funds to prevent violence that support our public safety efforts,” the spokesperson added.
Gorman&#8217;s family also hit back at Pritzker over his statement.
&#8220;Sheridan’s death cannot be reduced to a general &#8216;tragedy,&#8217; nor can it be explained away by broad references to failures somewhere else. Sheridan was a daughter, a sister, and a young woman whose life was taken in a way that should never have been possible,&#8221; the family said, according to Fox News. &#8220;We are not interested in political arguments or in watching responsibility shift from one place to another. If there were failures — as the Governor himself has acknowledged—then every one of them must be identified, examined, and addressed directly. The location of those failures matters less than the willingness to confront them honestly.&#8221;
&#8220;Our daughter is not a policy debate. She is a life that was taken, and that demands accountability,&#8221; they added.
Medina was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder in the first degree, three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, and one count of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the Tribune. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer with local authorities, but it is not likely to force any action due to sanctuary laws.
His initial court appearance was delayed after he was hospitalized with tuberculosis. He is due in court Friday.

Sheridan Gorman’s Family Rips Chicago Mayor, Illinois Gov Over Response To Her Killing

Chicago could lose federal funding after a 26-year-old woman was set on fire on the city’s train system in what the Trump administration described as a “preventable attack.”
Federal Transit Administration Administrator Marc Molinaro sent <a href="https://www.transit.dot.gov/sites/fta.dot.gov/files/2025-12/The-Honorable-Brandon-Johnson-FTA-Special-Directive-Letter-to-Chicago-12-08-2025.pdf">letters</a> on Monday to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Democratic Governor JB Pritzker, directing them to immediately enhance safety on public transportation. Molinaro said that officials had failed to take the necessary steps to keep the public safe.
“Creating a safe, reliable transit system is the responsibility of leaders at every level. CTA, the City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois have failed to meet this obligation,” Molinaro wrote. “If CTA does not promptly increase its law enforcement presence, FTA will act, including by withholding federal funds.”
The letter comes after Bethany MaGee <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/woman-set-on-fire-by-convict-with-72-priors-on-chicago-train">was doused</a> in gasoline and set ablaze in an unprovoked attack on a Chicago train last month. Lawrence Reed, the man charged in the attack, had previously been arrested more than 70 times and had 15 criminal convictions.
The letter said that officials needed to “implement immediate, measurable, corrective actions to reduce assaults on transit workers and passengers and to address unsafe conditions contributing to elevated violent crime rates.”
“The horrific attack on Bethany MaGee onboard a CTA train has shaken not only Chicago but also every community that depends on public transportation. As FTA Administrator, I call on you as an elected leader and on Chicago transit officials to take decisive action on safety issues that lead to such tragedies.”
“I will not accept the brutal assault of an innocent 26-year-old woman as an inevitable cost of providing public transportation,” Molinaro added. “The attack on Ms. MaGee was preventable. Transit leaders and elected officials who fail to enforce basic laws and permit disorder to erode the integrity of their systems are making deliberate choices that endanger riders.”
According to Molinaro, violent crime on Chicago’s public transportation system is four times the national average, and assaults on passengers have surged 150% in the last five years.
Molinaro directed Chicago officials to update the city’s public transportation agency safety plans and adopt appropriate measures to address violent crime. Pritzker and other Democratic officials have long downplayed crime rates in the Windy City, claiming high crime is part of being a big city.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, a Democrat, unloaded on a reporter for asking about illegal aliens, which is a legal term for a person who is illegally in America.
Johnson called the term &#8220;racist&#8221; and sarcastically suggested that he should also call black people &#8220;slaves.&#8221;
The reporter asked Johnson about his apparent refusal to file a report to the White House detailing his city&#8217;s spending on illegal aliens. &#8220;What has happened with that?&#8221; the reporter asked.
&#8220;We don&#8217;t have illegal aliens,&#8221; Johnson told the reporter while shaking his head. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know if that&#8217;s from some sort of sci-fi message for which you&#8217;ve had.&#8221;
When the reporter explained that he was merely using a legal term for a person illegally in the country, Johnson made a comparison to slavery. &#8220;Listen, the legal term for my people were slaves,&#8221; the Democrat said. &#8220;You want me to use that term, too?&#8221;
&#8220;Let&#8217;s just get the language right,&#8221; the mayor continued. &#8220;We&#8217;re talking about undocumented individuals that are human beings. The last thing that I&#8217;m going to do is accept that type of racist, nasty language to describe human beings.&#8221;
Johnson <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQPIhblgYoU/?igsh=dHc4N3I5YWpmODNu">posted</a> the moment to his Instagram account on Saturday and captioned the post, &#8220;This isn’t a sci-fi show. These are human beings. We will not abandon our humanity to score cheap political points.&#8221;

“The order establishes ICE-free zones,&#8221; Johnson said at the time. &#8220;That means that city property and unwilling private businesses will no longer serve as staging grounds for these raids.&#8221;

Federal ICE agents have increasingly become targets of violence, especially in sanctuary cities. On October 4, officers in Chicago were targeted in an apparently coordinated strike. According to Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin, officers were “rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars” and agents were forced to exit their vehicles on foot.
“One of the drivers who rammed the law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon,” McLaughlin explained. “Law enforcement was forced to deploy their weapons and fire defensive shots at an armed U.S. citizen who drove herself to the hospital to get care for wounds.”
The armed woman in question was already on Border Patrol’s radar after she recently doxxed agents and posted online, “Hey to all my gang let’s f*** those mother f***ers up, don’t let them take anyone,” according to the assistant secretary.
McLaughlin said the Chicago Police Department refused to provide backup for the ICE agents.

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker should be thrown in jail &#8220;for failing to protect ICE officers&#8221; as Trump&#8217;s immigration enforcement operation in the Windy City continues to face opposition from state and local leaders.

Johnson and Pritzker have pushed back against Trump&#8217;s efforts in Chicago and have also condemned the president&#8217;s move to deploy hundreds of National Guard troops to the city. On Sunday, Pritzker <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/05/us/politics/pritzker-chicago-immigration.html">responded</a> to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem&#8217;s description of Chicago as a &#8220;war zone,&#8221; accusing the Trump administration of &#8220;making it a war zone.&#8221;
&#8220;They need to get out of Chicago if they’re not going to focus on the worst of the worst, which is what the president said they were going to do,&#8221; Pritzker added.
After Pritzker refused Trump&#8217;s request to deploy Illinois National Guard troops to Chicago, Texas National Guard troops arrived in Illinois earlier this week, ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/texas-national-guard-headed-illinois-gov-pritzker-calls/story?id=126283676">reported</a>.
Mayor Johnson also took a step on Monday to impede ICE&#8217;s operations in the city, signing an executive order that creates “ICE-free zones,&#8221; The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chicago-mayor-brandon-johnson-signs-executive-order-establishing-ice-free-zones">reported</a>.
“The order establishes ICE-free zones. That means that city property and unwilling private businesses will no longer serve as staging grounds for these raids,” Johnson <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chicago-mayor-brandon-johnson-signs-executive-order-establishing-ice-free-zones">said</a>.
Trump&#8217;s “Operation Midway Blitz,” a massive federal effort to crack down on violent crime and detain illegal immigrants that began last month, has resulted in more than 1,000 arrests in Chicago. The operation, however, has been met with fierce and sometimes violent opposition.

Over the weekend, federal immigration agents driving in Chicago were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/armed-attack-on-ice-agents-unfolds-in-chicago-pritzker-rails-against-trump">rammed</a> and surrounded by 10 vehicles in an area where anti-ICE protesters had taken to the streets. One of the drivers accused of ramming into the agents&#8217; vehicles &#8220;was armed with a semi-automatic weapon,&#8221; according to Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
The federal agents fired at the armed agitator, &#8220;who drove herself to the hospital to get care for her wounds,&#8221; McLaughlin said. The armed suspect, identified as 40-year-old Marimar Martinez, was on Border Patrol&#8217;s radar after she allegedly doxxed federal agents and threatened to &#8220;f*** those mother f***ers up.&#8221; After Martinez was released from the hospital, she was taken into FBI custody, according to the DHS.
No federal agents were injured in the apparent attack, according to McLaughlin, who also accused the Chicago Police Department of refusing to assist federal law enforcement &#8220;in securing the area.&#8221; According to internal dispatch obtained by <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/chicago-police-sources-blast-departments-response-after-officers-were-told-not-help-fed-agents-cover-a">Fox News</a>, Chicago Police Department officers were told by their chief of patrol not to respond to the incident.

The police department responded to the report, claiming that officers were on the scene &#8220;to maintain public safety.&#8221;
&#8220;To clarify misinformation currently circulating, CPD officers did in fact respond to the shooting scene involving federal authorities on Saturday to maintain public safety and traffic control,&#8221; the department said.
&#8220;The Chicago Police Department will always respond to anyone who is being attacked or is under the threat of physical harm,&#8221; the department added. &#8220;For incidents involving federal immigration enforcement, CPD supervisors will respond to the scene and determine the appropriate course of action in accordance with City law.&#8221;
Fox News, however, quoted &#8220;two senior Chicago police sources&#8221; who said that the Chicago Police Department&#8217;s statement is &#8220;not true.&#8221;
The ramming over the weekend was not the first time that federal immigration officers were targeted with vehicles in the Chicago area. In response, anti-ICE agitators have taken to the streets in an attempt to thwart the Trump administration&#8217;s sweeping deportation operation.

On Saturday, Border Patrol agents “were rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars” in Broadview, Illinois, Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin <a href="https://x.com/TriciaOhio/status/1974524869892276682" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on X.
When the trapped agents exited their car, they encountered one of the alleged attackers, who was later <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/10/04/update-dhs-deploys-special-operations-after-multiple-violent-attacks-federal-law" target="_blank" rel="noopener">identified</a> as Marimar Martinez. Agents determined that she was “armed with a semi-automatic weapon,” forcing them to “fire defensive shots at an unarmed U.S. citizen,” according to McLaughlin.
Chicago Police officers were also <a href="https://x.com/RedWave_Press/status/1975231794858340415" target="_blank" rel="noopener">instructed</a> to stand down when the federal agents called for help during the attack.
Martinez was previously the subject of a federal law enforcement intelligence bulletin that circulated last week after she was allegedly “doxing agents and posting online ‘Hey to all my gang let’s f*** those motherf****ers up, don’t let them take anyone.’”
In response to the uptick in violent assaults, the Trump administration&#8217;s Department of War will deploy roughly 400 soldiers from Texas to Chicago and Portland.
Illinois has since sued the Trump administration as its governor, JB Pritzker, labeled the troop deployment as “Trump’s invasion.”

After a weekend in which at least 52 people were shot and seven died in his city, Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson shouted to the crowd at a Labor Day Rally that they had to defend themselves from President Donald Trump’s intention to clean things up.
On August 22, President Trump signaled he might intervene in Chicago as he had in Washington, D.C., <a href="https://www.fox19.com/2025/08/22/stay-out-our-city-chicago-officials-slam-trumps-threat-target-city-next-crime-crackdown/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">telling</a> reporters, “I think Chicago will be our next. … And then we’ll help with New York.” The following day, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2025/08/23/trump-chicago-military-national-guard/">reported</a> that the Pentagon had been planning a military deployment to Chicago for weeks. On August 26, Trump escalated his rhetoric, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/OVoa6OkxLWM">declaring</a>, “Everybody knows Chicago is a hellhole right now.”
Under Johnson, Chicago experienced <a href="https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/chicago-crime-numbers-johnson-releases-2024-stats-touts-citys-progress.amp?utm_source=chatgpt.com">572 homicides</a> in 2024, making it the deadliest U.S. city by total homicides for the 13th consecutive year.
“No federal troops in the city of Chicago,” Johnson yelled to the crowd. “No militarized force in the city of Chicago. We’re going to defend our democracy in the city of Chicago. We’re going to protect the humanity of every single person in the city of Chicago. And we got the baddest freaking labor movement in the city of Chicago, birthed right here.”
Johnson then threatened, “We’re gonna take this fight across America but we gotta defend our home front first.”
He then launched into a paean to the labor movement and DEI rhetoric, yelling:

“Now look, there are some people that have doubts in the labor movement. There are some people who believe that we don’t have the power to beat authoritarianism. But I’m also a history teacher as well. We have stood up for the interests of workers before and we will do it again, and no matter what comes from the White House, Chicago will always be a labor town. Are you with me, Chicago?” he declared.
After having mentioned he had been a history teacher, he promptly falsified history, saying, “Are you prepared to defend this land, this land that was built by slaves, a land that was built by indigenous people, a land that was built by workers, are you prepared to defend this land? The people, united, will always prevail.”
He turned back to Trump: “I need you all to stand firm, to stand strong if this president decides to continue to break this Constitution, it’s gonna be the labor movement that stitches it back together, the labor movement that brings black folks, white folks, Asians; it brings brown folks together. This is a city that said, ‘Keep hope alive,’ the city that birthed, ‘Yes we can,’ and the city that will defend this country.”

After President Trump signaled that Chicago would be the next target of a federal crime crackdown similar to the one in Washington, D.C., Mayor Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker have threatened non-cooperation and legal action. Pritzker called a potential deployment of the National Guard an &#8220;invasion,&#8221; and Johnson has preemptively ordered Chicago police not to cooperate with any federal law enforcement. Meanwhile, the administration&#8217;s deportation efforts are being stalled in the courts. On Sunday, a Biden-appointed judge blocked the deportation of 76 Guatemalan children. Last week, an Obama-appointed judge halted the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an alleged MS-13 gang member. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted a clip of a recent CBS News interview, noting that the network edited out the serious allegations against Abrego Garcia, including that he is a &#8220;known human smuggler&#8221; and a &#8220;wife beater&#8221; who &#8220;solicited nude photos from minors.&#8221;

A rare public display of unity between Xi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is setting off &#8220;alarm bells in Washington.&#8221; The move is seen as a direct response to Trump&#8217;s 50% tariffs on Indian goods and signals that India is willing to work with U.S. adversaries if its relationship with Washington deteriorates.
The summit comes as a federal appeals court dealt a major blow to Trump&#8217;s signature trade policy. On Friday, the court ruled that the president was not justified in using emergency powers to unilaterally impose his global tariffs. Trump responded over the weekend, warning, &#8220;More than 15 Trillion Dollars will be invested in the USA&#8230; If a Radical Left Court is allowed to terminate these Tariffs, almost all of this investment&#8230; will be immediately cancelled!” The ruling allows the tariffs to remain in effect until at least October, giving the Supreme Court time to potentially hear the case.
<h2>FDA Moves to Ban Opioid-Like ‘Kratom’ Product</h2>

Topline: The FDA is taking emergency action to ban 7-OH, a potent, opioid-like substance derived from the kratom plant that is being sold in gas stations and vape shops and aggressively marketed to children.
The FDA has recommended that 7-OH be classified as a Schedule I controlled substance, which would make it illegal to sell or possess. The agency says the compound is an opioid, up to 13 times more potent than morphine, and carries significant health risks, including addiction and overdose. FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary issued a stark warning that the substance &#8220;may be the fourth wave of the opioid epidemic.&#8221;
The products are sold in forms that are appealing to kids, such as fruit-flavored gummies, vapes, and even ice cream cones, often without clear or accurate labeling. There is currently no federal age restriction on the products. The move to ban the substance comes after a number of anecdotal reports of addiction and death, including a Georgia two-year-old who had to be revived with Narcan after accidentally ingesting a 7-OH product marketed as an &#8220;energy pill.&#8221; Several states, led by Florida and Ohio, are also moving to ban or restrict the substance.
