The Dublin-based rock band U2 just released a tribute song dedicated to Renee Good, the anti-ICE activist who was killed during an altercation with ICE officers in Minneapolis last month.
The song “American Obituary,” part of the six-track EP “U2 Days of Ash,” debuted on Wednesday, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/02/19/us-news/u2-american-obituary-song-invokes-renee-nicole-good-ice-shooting-in-days-of-ash-ep/">The New York Post</a>. 
“Renee Good born to die free/American mother of three/ Seventh day January/ A bullet for еach child, you see,” the lyrics say in part.
“The color of her eyе/ 930 Minneapolis/ To desecrate domestic bliss/ Three bullets blast, three babies kissed/ Renee the domestic terrorist???”
The refrain says: “What you can’t kill can&#8217;t die/ America will rise/ Against the people of the lie/ I love you more/ Than hate loves war.”
U2 lead singer Bono <a href="https://propaganda.u2.com/">described</a> the new release as a “song of fury… but more than that a song of grief” in a statement <a href="https://propaganda.u2.com/">published</a> on the band’s digital fanzine, which is called “Propaganda.”
“Not just for Renee but for the death of an America that at the very least would have had an inquiry into her killing… for her family as well as the credibility of law enforcement and the critical role they play in keeping the peace, keeping the citizenry safe,” the singer said. 
He also tried to explain why he, an Irishman, is involving himself in American politics.
“U2’s been banging on about America most of our artistic life… this is a country we love and has loved us back. Amazingly,” Bono said. “Americans for the most part have given U2 and me in particular permission to mouth off… And on this stuff I think people know that I’ve been an equal opportunity pest on the left as well as the right.”
Despite these attempts to justify the song, the Irish recording artist got blasted on social media.
“It appears Ireland has stronger illegal immigration laws than the U.S. Maybe U2 could sing a song about that,” an X user <a href="https://x.com/clayton_be61039/status/2024288299825668277">replied</a>.
“As an American, I can comfortably say, I don’t give a sh** what any band thinks…especially a foreign band,” another commenter <a href="https://x.com/TexasExec16/status/2024308019928990078">agreed</a>.
“No songs dedicated to all the victims killed by illegal aliens …. Hmmm,” another <a href="https://x.com/Antillothegreat/status/2024288247870812644">observed</a>.
This is the second recently released mainstream “protest song” dedicated to anti-ICE sentiment. Far-left activist singer Bruce Springsteen <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bruce-springsteen-releases-cringe-protest-song-about-minneapolis">released</a> “Streets of Minneapolis” in January after spending one day writing it. That song was also mocked online.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/music">U2</a> finished its residency at the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/las-vegas">Las Vegas</a> venue Sphere over the weekend with a tribute to first lady <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jill-biden">Jill Biden</a>.
Frontman Bono dedicated the song “All I Want Is You” from the 1988 U2 album &#8220;Rattle and Hum&#8221; to Mrs. Biden, who was in attendance.
“This song, when we wrote it, I tried to write the lyrics from the point of view of the woman or the bride, in this case, which is pretty arrogant, I suppose. That was a trick for me to get to the lyric I was playing on myself,” Bono said. 
“Tonight, I want to dedicate it to all the great women in our lives — our partners, our mothers, our daughters, all the women on the U2 crew, all the great women in our audience that we feel we know, and all the great women in parts of the world going through very difficult circumstances that we could never know. And one woman in particular who is with us tonight, she’s a teacher. She’s your first lady, so this is for Jill Biden.”
At another point in the show, Bono mentioned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, which he’s been doing on stage since Navalny’s death was announced last month.

“This is a tightly constructed show, but as it’s our last night, we wondered if it might be OK to experiment on you a little bit. The idea is to record something special to honor Alexei Navalny’s widow, Yulia, who is continuing a fight against Vladimir Putin for a free, free Russia, which is what we want for the Russian people,” Bono said before playing “Don’t Dream It’s Over.”
“The other day we got a beautiful email from Neil Finn, who wrote this bewildering beautiful song and he attached to the email a version of this song that he said we could play on or whatever we wanted. It’s a new version that he did, and we thought if we are going to record it, well, maybe if you would be on that recording and we could make that session the last night recording session and dedicating it to Yulia,” he continued, calling the single “a song about freedom.”
The band has played 40 shows at the visually stunning music and entertainment arena beginning in September. U2 was commemorating one of its most successful records, “Achtung Baby” (1991), by playing the album in its entirety along with other selected tracks from the band&#8217;s catalog.
During the performance, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bono">Bono</a> welcomed the album’s producer, Daniel Lanois, to the stage. He also made mention of drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who was in the audience but unable to play due to his recent neck surgery. 
“The rumors that Larry will be playing with us tonight are not true, sadly. But he is here with us,” Bono said of Mullen Jr. “That is the man who pinned the note on the notice board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School all those years ago. We are very grateful that he did, and that he’s here with us tonight. We wish him a speedy, speedy, speedy recovery. We love you, Larry Mullen Jr.”

People slammed Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters as an anti-Semite long before the Oct. 7 attacks triggered a wave of Jewish hate across the globe.
Waters, the band’s co-founder and a still-active rocker at 80, has walked a razor-thin line over the years between criticizing Israel and attacking the people who call the nation home.
He may have crossed said line even for his staunchest defenders.
Waters recently spoke out against fellow rock icon Bono of U2 fame. The Irish superstar reacted swiftly to the Oct. 7 massacre by Hamas which killed 1,200 people and kidnapped hundreds more.
Rape. Torture. Beheadings.
The news accounts proved so grisly Bono addressed them from, where else, a concert stage mere hours after the attacks.

He paid particular attention to Hamas’ assault on a music festival dedicated to peace by tweaking the band’s ‘80s smash, “Pride (In the Name of Love).”

<blockquote>In the light of what’s happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about non-violence seems somewhat ridiculous, even laughable, but our prayers have always been for peace and for non-violence…But our hearts and our anger, you know where that’s pointed. So sing with us…and those beautiful kids at that music festival.</blockquote>
The band shared the concert clip via its social media accounts. How could anyone object to U2’s tribute, which wasn’t aggressive, only heartfelt? What possible argument could be lobbied against it? Shouldn’t musicians be particularly outraged by a terrorist attack on a concert?
Tell that to Waters.
He spat out his disgust for what Bono said on <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/program/the-stream/2024/2/17/roger-waters-on-gaza-resistance-and-doing-the-right-thing-2">Al Jazeera TV</a>:
<blockquote>Anybody who knows Bono should go and pick him up by his ankles and shake him until he stops being a [giant] s*** &#8230; we have to start speaking to these people and saying, ‘Your opinion is so disgusting and degrading, when you stand up for the Zionist entity…’
What he did in the Sphere in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, singing about the Stars of David, was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen in my life.</blockquote>
Remember, Waters is an 80-year-old man.
If that rhetoric came as an isolated outburst some may be willing to forgive if not forget. Except it’s part of a pattern, one that leaves less and less doubt of Waters’ intentions.

We saw something similar late last year when he sat down for <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-WSb23wdLI" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an interview</a> with independent journalist Glenn Greenwald roughly a month after Hamas’ savagery.
<blockquote>Let’s wait and see what happened, was my first reaction [to the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks]. My second reaction was — how the hell did the Israelis not know this was going to happen? There’s something very fishy about that.</blockquote>
There’s no proof the Israeli government knew such an attack was coming. It’s hard to imagine any government would allow that kind of atrocity to be perpetuated on its people for political purposes.
Greenwald pressed Waters on whether he thought the Oct. 7 attacks were “justified.”
<blockquote>We don’t know what they did do. But was it justified for them to resist the occupation? Yeah.</blockquote>
We knew fairly quickly what Hamas did. The terrorists filmed much of their barbaric acts on GoPro-style cameras, smartphones, and other devices, eager for the world to witness their barbarism. Journalists and <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12732767/israel-screening-hamas-terror-attack-october-7.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hollywood dwellers</a> got to see a montage of the clips shortly after Oct. 7.
Canadian journalist Matt Gurney <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/just-about-the-worst-thing-ive-ever-seen-canadian-journalist-reacts-to-footage-of-hamas-october-7-massacre" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called the footage</a> &#8220;just about the worst thing I have ever seen.&#8221;
Waters also <a href="https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/israel-at-war/1699350277-roger-waters-says-israelis-making-up-stories-about-october-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">downplayed</a> the fact that Israeli citizens were targeted in the melee.
<blockquote>The thing was thrown out of all proportion by the Israelis making up stories about beheading babies.</blockquote>
No one has credibly disputed that 1,200 people that day, or that the terrorist group kidnapped men, women, senior citizens and even toddlers following the attacks.
Waters’ ex-bandmate David Gilmour made up his mind a while ago on whether Waters harbors hate against Jewish people. Last year, Gilmour used his X account to promote the documentary “The Dark Side of Roger Waters,” a film accusing the singer of anti-Jewish sentiments.
The film, from the Campaign Against Antisemitism, featured <a href="https://consequence.net/2023/10/david-gilmour-roger-waters-antisemitic/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first-person accounts by Jewish musicians</a> who worked with Waters – Norbert Stachel and Bob Ezrin &#8211; who claimed they heard him utter anti-Semitic comments.
Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, added fuel to the fire by saying Waters was “antisemitic to [his] rotten core.”
All of this comes after Waters’ infamous stage antics where he performed under an inflatable pig emblazoned with <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSL1N37X0TS/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Star of David</a> and strode across the stage wearing a <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/german-police-investigate-roger-waters-nazi-style-costume-concert-2023-05-26/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nazi-like uniform</a>. The latter, he said, was his way of opposing fascism and bigotry.
The most intriguing part of it all? We’ve seen actors face professional blowback recently for sharing anti-Israeli comments, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/susan-sarandon-dropped-by-agency-after-her-anti-semitic-remarks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon</a>. Cancel Culture also erased Roseanne Barr&#8217;s career for a horrid Tweet.
Waters, on the other hand, has endured few repercussions for his chronic words and actions.
City Council members in Frankfurt, Germany, briefly stopped a planned May 2023 concert by the rocker, declaring that Waters “repeatedly called for a cultural boycott of Israel and drew comparisons to the apartheid regime in South Africa and put pressure on artists to cancel events in Israel.”

During their performance, lead singer Bono <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/u2-pride-tribute-israelis-music-festival-massacre-1235613691/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recognized</a> the 260 young festival goers killed at the Tribe of Nova trance music event on Saturday.

&#8220;Early morning, October 7th,&#8221; Bono sang. &#8220;As the sun is rising in the desert sky. Stars of David, they took your life. But they could not take your pride.&#8221;
The audience joined in when he got to the chorus, &#8220;In the name of love,&#8221; and they chimed in, &#8220;What more in the name of love.&#8221;
&#8220;Pride&#8221; was originally written to pay tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., referencing his assassination on April 4, 1968, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/u2-pride-tribute-israelis-music-festival-massacre-1235613691/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hollywood Reporter</a> noted.
On Saturday, nearly 1,000 Israelis were murdered, and more than 2,600 people were injured in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ben-shapiro-jeremy-boreing-blast-andrew-tate-for-vile-take-on-israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">terrorist attacks</a>. More than 100 more were kidnapped, with an unknown number of Israelis being held hostage, the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/09/world/middleeast/israel-hostages-hamas-explained.html#:~:text=Abducted%20Israelis%3A%20An%20estimated%20150,that%20could%20help%20govern%20Gaza." target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a> reported.

U2 Pays Tribute To Israelis Murdered At Music Festival By Hamas With ‘Pride’ Lyric Changes

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bono">Bono</a> just said that it’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/capitalism">capitalism</a>, not socialism, that will save people from poverty. 
The 62-year Irish <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/music">singer-songwriter</a> discussed this and several other topics with The New York Times during an <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/10/24/magazine/bono-interview.html">interview</a> to promote his upcoming memoir, “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story,” out November 1.
Like so many other <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">musicians</a>, Bono (real name Paul David Hewson) holds left-leaning political views. But the U2 frontman is also critical of anyone who talks a big game but won’t act. Over the years of being an activist, Bono said he discovered that donations alone aren’t the answer to solving the world&#8217;s problems.
“I ended up as an activist in a very different place from where I started. I thought that if we just redistributed resources, then we could solve every problem,” he told the NYT. “I now know that’s not true. There’s a funny moment when you realize that as an activist: The off-ramp out of extreme poverty is, ugh, commerce, it’s entrepreneurial capitalism.”
He later criticized anyone who hates business leaders by the nature of their position. 
“I didn’t grow up to like the idea that we’ve made heroes out of business people, but if you’re bringing jobs to a community and treating people well, then you are a hero,” Bono said. He also reluctantly admitted to admiring President George W. Bush pledging $18 billion to help fight HIV in Africa. Bono said he was willing to give credit where it was due despite the potential for alienating fans.
“I often instead use the word ‘actualist,’ because activists sometimes like to stay on the outside and criticize, whereas the “actualist” wants to get [expletive] done,” the “Beautiful Day” singer told the publication. 
“I found that if I was ready to drop some biases, coming from the left to work with the right, we could get stuff done. I know it will lose some music fans, but it was important for me to have that in there.”
Bono also cursed Marxist icon &#8220;Che&#8221; Guevara, though he did retain some of his leftist views, including calling former News Corporation head Rupert Murdoch “evil” and accusing him of trying to “dismantle democracy.”
In anticipation of the memoir’s release, the U2 singer also apologized again for the much-maligned promotion he did with Apple in 2014 when the album “Songs Of Innocence” was automatically added to each iTunes user’s account. Bono described it  as an “overreach” resulting from his “vaunting ambition.”

U2 lead singer Bono and guitarist The Edge performed at a metro station in Ukraine&#8217;s capital of Kyiv on Sunday to support the nation as Russia continues its ongoing invasion.
&#8220;Your president leads the world in the cause of freedom right now &#8230; The people of Ukraine are not just fighting for your own freedom, you&#8217;re fighting for all of us who love freedom,&#8221; Bono told the audience inside the Khreshchatyk metro station, according to Reuters, referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
&#8220;This evening, 8th of May, shots will ring out in the Ukraine sky, but you&#8217;ll be free at last. They can take your lives, but they can never take your pride,&#8221; he added.
The surprise concert came following an invitation to Bono by Zelensky, according to a Twitter post from U2&#8217;s verified account.
&#8220;President @ZelenskyyUa invited us to perform in Kyiv as a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and so that’s what we’ve come to do,&#8221; the account tweeted.

A Twitter account called &#8220;Good morning, Ukraine&#8221; posted a brief video from the performance alongside Ukrainian musical artist Taras Topola.
&#8220;Kyiv metro. Just the legendary Bono from the band U2 sings with Taras Topola. We are unbreakable. We are invincible. The whole world supports us. Glory to Ukraine!&#8221; it tweeted.

Bono also encouraged his audience by referring to his own nation&#8217;s conflicts in Ireland during the performance.
&#8220;The people in Ukraine are not just fighting for your own freedom, you are fighting for all of us who love freedom,&#8221; Bono <a href="https://www.rte.ie/news/ukraine/2022/0508/1296762-bono-ukraine-latest/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>.
&#8220;We pray that you will enjoy some of that peace soon,&#8221; he added.
U2 previously served as part of the Stand Up for Ukraine effort that led to more than <a href="https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/info/ukraine/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$10.1 billion</a> in grants and loans on behalf of the war-torn nation.
“The brave people of Ukraine are fighting for their freedom — and for ours — in the face of unspeakable violence and an unjust invasion,” U2 <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/u2-bono-the-edge-acoustic-set-kyiv-bomb-shelter-1350428/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> last month. “More than 4 million people, mostly women and children, have had to flee for their lives — a population nearly the size of Ireland. World leaders must stand up and stand by Ukrainians now … those who are fighting and those who have fled … and stand with refugees everywhere who have been forced from their homes and their lands.”
The event also took place just one day after Russian forces bombed a school that had been converted into a shelter in an eastern Ukraine village Saturday, leaving up to 60 people dead or missing.
The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/up-to-60-feared-dead-after-russia-bombs-ukrainian-school-converted-into-shelter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that rescuers were frantically digging through the rubble in Berestove Sunday, hoping to find survivors following the airstrikes.
The attack could prove to be one of the deadliest in the two-and-a-half-month invasion. Survivors told <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/up-to-60-feared-dead-after-russia-bombs-school-in-eastern-ukraine/ar-AAX2NAx?ocid=uxbndlbing">The Washington Post</a> dozens of people were huddled in the basement of the Bilohorivka school when it was hit.
“There are only twelve of us left alive,” a patient told the newspaper from a hospital in the nearby town of Bakhmut.
“We’d been inside that basement for a month,” a 57-year-old woman told the Post. “We were eating dinner when it happened. We didn’t know what hit us.”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) teased on Thursday morning that she would be reading a poem written by Bono for the Ukrainian people at Congress&#8217; annual Friends of St. Patrick luncheon that afternoon. It was seemingly out of the blue and the instant reaction on Twitter was simple: &#8220;Why?&#8221;
At the luncheon, she read poetry by the lead singer of U2, Bono — who is an Irishman himself. It compared St. Patrick to Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelensky.
Based on tweets, it seems that &#8220;Why?&#8221; transformed into more of a &#8220;What in the world?&#8221; The spectacle was truly bizarre.
As flagged by Greg Price, Pelosi told the media Thursday morning, &#8220;I will be reading a poem written by Bono about Ukraine which you might find interesting.&#8221;
Many people did, but not for the reasons the speaker may have hoped.
Miranda Devine of the New York Post quipped, &#8220;Third in line. 81 years old. Unhinged.&#8221;

The phrase &#8216;Kabuki theater&#8217; is a reference to a form of Japanese dramas, featuring heavy acting and elaborate costumes. The bad news for Americans everywhere is that is isn&#8217;t fiction. It was real life. There were dozens, if not hundreds, more mocking Pelosi.
Just prior to introducing River Dance at the luncheon, Pelosi read the poem by Bono. To put it in layman&#8217;s terms, it was even more cringe-worthy than one would expect.
“I got this message this morning from Bono,” Pelosi said before reading the rhyme. “Most of us — whether we’re in Ireland or here — Bono has been a very Irish part of our lives,&#8221; she added.

In response, The Federalist&#8217;s Ben Domenech tweeted something many readers might be wondering at this point, &#8220;Is this a prank? Did someone pretend to be Bono and sent her this?&#8221;

But it was not a prank at all. Pelosi was serious.
And it&#8217;s not the first time Pelosi has offered an off-key attempt to commemorate something.
On January 6, Pelosi <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nancy-pelosis-january-6-grief-session-brings-broadway-tunes-equity-and-a-rewrite-of-americas-ideals">invited</a> the cast of the broadway musical &#8220;Hamilton&#8221; to preform one of its songs and discuss equity.
That was pretty bizarre, but the poem by Bono may have topped it.
Consider this: on Wednesday, Zelensky asked for a no-fly zone and America to come to Ukraine&#8217;s assistance. That would have been the start of World War III, so America sent nearly a billion more dollars in aid to Ukraine instead.
But, Pelosi tacking on a poem by Bono likely did not strike strike any fear into the heart of Russian President Vladimir Putin or inspire the Ukrainian people.
It may have done just the opposite.

‘Is This A Prank?’: Nancy Pelosi Reads Poem By Bono To Comfort Afflicted Ukrainians, Leaving Everybody Bewildered

Bono has been the face of the Irish rock band U2 for close to five decades. Since 1976, they’ve released 14 studio albums and performed hundreds of live concerts, and have sold millions of records worldwide. It’s not an exaggeration to call the band one of the most influential artists of all time.
It’s the kind of lifelong success that most recording artists can only dream of, but during a recent interview, lead vocalist Bono made some disparaging remarks about his band, dissing everything from the group’s name to specific songs they’ve put out.
The 61-year-old rocker, whose real name is Paul David Hewson, shared his true feelings during an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/bono-and-the-edge-sing-2/id1039032256?i=1000548166233">podcast</a> along with fellow bandmate the Edge.
Bono claimed he was never fully supportive of the band’s name. He credited U2’s first manager, Paul McGuinness, who told them the name idea was “great” plus would “look good on a T-shirt; a letter and a number.”
The singer still regrets going along with the idea.
“I didn’t realize that The Beatles was a bad pun, either,” he said. “In our head, it was like the spy plane, U-boat. It was futuristic … It turned out to imply this kind of acquiescence. No, I don’t like that name. I still don’t really like the name.”
Meanwhile, the band’s style has evolved over the years, with early songs drawing inspiration from the post-punk genre. Most of their lyrics include spiritual imagery and deal with social issues and even political themes.  
In the late 1980s, critics had called U2 “the greatest rock band in the world,” but Bono seems to disagree that U2’s music is worth celebrating. During the same “Awards Chatter” interview, the Irish rocker said he actually doesn&#8217;t like hearing their songs on the radio.
“I’ve been in the car when one of our songs has come on the radio and I’ve been the color of, as we say in Dublin, scarlet,” he said. “I’m just so embarrassed.”
“The one that I can listen to the most is ‘Miss Sarajevo’ with Luciano Pavarotti,” Bono continued. “Genuine, most of the other ones make me cringe a little bit.” The lead singer also said that the song he’s “probably proudest” of is “Vertigo.”
And it’s not that the singer is putting blame on his bandmates. Instead, he blames his own singing ability – or lack thereof – for part of U2 being so terrible.
“I only became a singer, like, recently. Maybe it hasn’t happened yet for some people’s ears and I understand that,” he told THR.
He recounted how singer Robert Palmer told U2 bassist Adam Clayton in the 1980s, “God, would you ever tell your singer to just take down the keys a little bit? He’d do himself a favor, his voice a favor, and he’d do us all a favor who have to listen to him.”
Now Bono sees what Clayton was talking about. “I was thinking out of my body. I wasn’t thinking about singing,” he said. “I didn’t really think about changing keys. Did we ever change a key?”
The rocker finished the conversation with one final remark about his time with U2. “I do think U2 pushes out the boat on embarrassment quite a lot, and maybe that’s the place to be as an artist — you know, right at the edge of your level of embarrassment,” he said.
