Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro showed off his knowledge of history this week while sitting down with Broadcast Cal, star of the <a href="https://www.bentkey.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bentkey</a> original show “Kid Explorer,” who quizzed him on a variety of topics from American presidents to inventions. 
The two discussed the invention of the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell, President Abraham Lincoln, and the American Revolution, among other topics from history. 
During their discussion, Cal asked Shapiro what sport Lincoln was known for, prompting Shapiro to answer “wrestling” and give more background on the athletic prowess of the 16th president.
“He would actually challenge dudes to wrestle in the streets. There are a bunch of stories about people confronting him, being like, ‘Let&#8217;s throw down right now,’ which is totally not what you think of when you think of Abraham Lincoln,” Shapiro said. 
Shapiro also gave more context on the debates between Stephen Douglas and Lincoln, which focused on federal versus state power. 
Historians have “preserved a huge number of these speeches and sort of the back and forth between Lincoln and Douglass and those those arguments are relevant right now on other subjects, actually, not just regarding slavery, because they&#8217;re all about what should be left to the states, what should be left to the federal government, which sort of subjects should be left to the people versus taken off the table by the Constitution,” Shapiro said. 
The two also discussed the shot heard round the world at the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the 1783 Treaty of Paris, and how long Britain’s King George III was in power. 
“Wow, a dominant performance,” Shapiro said after Cal’s final question. “But there are certain things that I didn&#8217;t know. Even I can learn things from the Kid Explorer and so can you. The company behind CoComelon — the Netflix show for toddlers under fire for its depiction of a small boy dressed in a tutu and tiara dancing for his two gay dads — is owned by two former Disney executives who remain close with its CEO Bob Iger.
Candle Media was founded by the former Disney executives Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs after they purchased CoComelon&#8217;s creator, Moonbug, in 2021 for a reported $3 billion. The pair were both recently removed from senior executive positions at Disney, where Mayer held roles such as Executive Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Staggs, who was once viewed as the heir apparent to Iger, rose as high as Chairman of Walt Disney Parks And Resorts.
The pair joined forces with the backing of investment firm Blackstone to acquire Moonbug Entertainment, which was responsible not only for CoComelon but also Blippi, a pair of shows that regularly sit atop its programming for children. They are <a href="https://candlemedia.com/team/">co-founders and co-CEOs</a> of the company, which also brought in another former Disney executive, Salil Mehta, on to be its CFO.
Though the company has <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C05DG4PPqr8/">celebrated the fact</a> that CoComelon and its affiliated spinoff show, CoComelon Lane, are the top kids shows watched on Netflix, it is now facing a wave of criticism for its recent episode showing a young boy presenting as a girl to his two gay dads.

With Iger back at the helm of Disney, Mayer and Staggs have found their way back to their former employer. In July 2023, Disney hired the former executives back as consultants to help the company as it &#8220;defines its strategy&#8221; going forward.
But their own company, Candle Media, appears to be in no better shape than Disney. Earlier this month, Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-12-07/-cocomelon-parent-candle-seeks-debt-relief-after-acquisitions-sour?embedded-checkout=true">reported</a> that the company has more than $1 billion in debt largely due to failures of shows such as CoComelon to meet earnings forecasts. Its other acquisitions, such as Reece Witherspoon&#8217;s Hello Sunshine production company, also fell far short of forecasts.
“It was a disappointing year for sure,” Mayer told Bloomberg in October. “But we like our position.”
Candle Media did not respond to an inquiry on Cocomelon&#8217;s controversial episode and the backlash.

Many people on social media reacted with praise for <a href="https://get.dailywire.com/subscribe/plus-v3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bentkey</a>’s top kids show “Chip Chilla” Tuesday after The New York Times published a piece <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jeremy-boreing-slams-nyt-after-paper-targets-bentkeys-chip-chilla-for-depicting-weirdly-present-father" target="_blank" rel="noopener">targeting</a> the series for depicting a “weirdly present” father. 
In the Times piece published on Monday, writer Amanda Hess criticized portrayals of the fathers in “Chip Chilla” and the popular Australian series “Bluey” as “fantasy” because they are active and engaged with their children. The NYT writer also suggested that the dad in “Chip Chilla” is the worst offender of the two because he teaches “lessons about dead white people.”

Another person credited the NYT for “facilitating” Chip Chilla’s introduction to his children.

“Kind of weird seeing @nytimes advertise for @realDailyWire like this,” another person on X <a href="https://twitter.com/MichaelFKane/status/1737168800783409663" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>. “As a parent, hearing them compare Chip Chilla in the same breath as Bluey is high praise. Lol.”
After the NYT piece was published, Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jeremy-boreing-slams-nyt-after-paper-targets-bentkeys-chip-chilla-for-depicting-weirdly-present-father" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a>, writing, “Chip Chilla is the most popular show on our new Bentkey platform, and Bluey is the most popular children’s show period,” Boreing added. “It’s no coincidence that two shows that feature loving and engaged nuclear families with great values who actually enjoy being together are so popular.”
He went on to note how it’s “no coincidence” that the “cultural gatekeepers” at the Times are targeting these particular programs.
“The left not only wants to add its radical agenda to kids entertainment, they want to remove good values from kids entertainment,” Boreing said.

Daily Wire co-founder <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jeremy-boreing">Jeremy Boreing</a> slammed a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-times">New York Times</a> piece that described the fathers on both <a href="https://get.dailywire.com/subscribe/plus-v3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bentkey</a>’s “Chip Chilla” and the hit Australian series “Bluey” as “a fantasy.”
“There are two kids shows that stand out to the [NYT] as problematic: Bentkey’s ‘Chip Chilla’ and ‘Bluey.’ And what’s so problematic? ‘Weirdly present’ fathers,” Boreing shared in an X post about the article.

“Both fathers are derided as a ‘fantasy’ for being so active and engaged with their children but, according to NYT, Chip Chilla is the far more offensive of the two because Chum Chum teaches ‘lessons about dead white people’ (read: George Washington, Ben Franklin, Neil Armstrong, etc.) and leads his kids in fun games and lessons as a way of establishing ‘male authority,’” Boreing continued.
“Chip Chilla is the most popular show on our new Bentkey platform, and Bluey is the most popular children’s show period,” Boreing added. “It’s no coincidence that two shows that feature loving and engaged nuclear families with great values who actually enjoy being together are so popular.”
He went on to note how it’s “no coincidence” that the “cultural gatekeepers” at the Times are targeting these particular programs.
“The left not only wants to add its radical agenda to kids entertainment, they want to remove good values from kids entertainment,” Boreing said.

NYT writer Amanda Hess noted in her<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/18/arts/television/bluey-chip-chilla-dad.html"> article</a> how in the first episode of “Bluey,” the archeologist father, Bandit, “keeps house” while his wife works outside the home. She describes Bandit as “a fun dad who does housework, too” and always plays with his kids. Hess views this portrayal as unrealistic, writing that his “omnipresence is odd, and striking.” 
The writer goes on to describe how her own child is often “staring at a screen” while she takes care of household chores like laundry. “Bandit represents a parent freed of drudgery, one whose central responsibility is delighting his kids,” Hess adds, claiming that parents don’t play with their children in real life because they’re too focused on other tasks.
Hess has the same complaints about Bentkey’s “Chip Chilla,” which is about a homeschooling family with the dad, Chum Chum, serving as the children&#8217;s instructor. She describes Chum Chum as “a highly involved father and unrelenting jokester who rarely seems to have to work.”
She also says Chum Chum is likely the children’s teacher “because it puts male authority at the center of the show.”
“Our culture has fallen so far and at times it might seem hopeless,&#8221; Boreing concluded. &#8220;Bentkey isn’t anywhere near the level of size and influence of the NYTs and Disneys of the world, but we created it because we have hope and believe our best days are ahead of us, and that the only way we can take back the culture from the left is by building something better.&#8221;

Daily Wire&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/introducing-bentkey-a-new-adventure-in-kids-entertainment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bentkey</a> has landed on the Parents Television Council&#8217;s (PTC&#8217;s) annual Nice list, while HBO and Meta are on the group&#8217;s Naughty list for &#8220;targeting youth&#8221; with content that is often overtly and explicitly sexual and graphic.
&#8220;In a screen saturated world, children, teens, and their parents have a lot to navigate,&#8221; Melissa Henson, PTC vice president told <a href="https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/meta-hbo-make-ptcs-naughty-list-appletv-bentkey-on-nice-list/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TVNewsCheck</a>. &#8220;Meta and HBO aren&#8217;t making this any easier for families by targeting youth with explicit sexual and other harmful content.&#8221;
&#8220;Our Naughty &amp; Nice List seeks to highlight some of the companies that prioritize children and families, and those who prioritize profit over child safety,&#8221; she added. &#8220;We are grateful to highlight AppleTV+ and Bentkey for offering more family entertainment. These companies serve as models that the entertainment business can emulate.&#8221;

The Daily Wire launched <a href="https://www.bentkey.com/launch/?utm_campaign=bentkey&amp;utm_medium=paid&amp;utm_source=googlesearch&amp;utm_content=na_subscriptions&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiAmsurBhBvEiwA6e-WPCGlBVVkbo8NacgZ_zwvz42eLyQ8Iv22mJqNzBwMS86J8qdsgD4CyxoCVEgQAvD_BwE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bentkey</a> earlier this year which offers children programming free of woke indoctrination, sexual content, politics and more. It follows companies like Angel Studios, Pure Flix, and the Great American Family network to offer faith-based and family-friendly programming, something that is getting harder and harder for families to find.
In the PTC &#8220;Families Need Not Subscribe&#8221; 2023 <a href="https://www.parentstv.org/resources/Families-Need-Not-Subcribe-2023-OTT-Report-Final.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a>, the group said &#8220;every major streaming platform has substantially failed to deliver content for families – the one audience segment that would most guarantee their success.&#8221;
The group analyzed the popular streaming services to see which ones offered the &#8220;best opportunity for family viewing&#8221; and found AppleTV+ offered &#8220;the largest number of TV-G rated original programming. Surveys indicate families want to watch TV together, and AppleTV+ is giving families more options than most streaming platforms, which heavily produce and distribute TV-MA-rated programming,&#8221; the report noted.
However HBO &#8220;led the charge towards marketing explicit, adult content to children and teens, introducing the sexually explicit &#8216;The Idol&#8217; to viewers this past summer, quietly adding &#8216;Naked Attraction&#8217; featuring uncensored fully naked contestants, and extending teen-targeted &#8216;Euphoria&#8217; for another season of drugs and depravity,&#8221; the report added
&#8220;PTC research has found that HBO&#8217;s streaming platform Max has mediocre parental controls, enabling children to access to the aforementioned programs and more of the most explicit streaming content on the market,&#8221; the report continued.
Meta — the parent company of Instagram and Facebook — also made the report because, according to the FTC, the social media group &#8220;continues to be revealed by media outlets, whistleblowers and lawsuits as fueling child sexual exploitation, providing a platform for pedophiles, and enabling sexually explicit and other harmful content that targets teens, especially teen girls.&#8221;

Children’s entertainment has been slowly becoming woke-ified over time, with the slippery slope turning into a perilous mudslide over the last few years especially. 
While the kids shows and movies from a decade ago might have subtly hinted about the “evils” of the Pilgrims “stealing” lands from American Indians, now the indoctrination has become a lot more brazen. Turn on any cartoon these days and you’re likely to find same-sex parents, trans flags, non-binary characters, conversations about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disney-cartoon-doubles-down-on-woke-push-with-crt-lgbtq-agenda-in-second-season" target="_blank" rel="noopener">white fragility</a>, or <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/childrens-show-blues-clues-features-pride-parade-cartoon-drag-queen-children-explaining-pride-flags" target="_blank" rel="noopener">animated drag queens</a> leading a Pride parade (no, seriously).
For example, last Thanksgiving, Disney released the full-length animated film “Strange World.” It was a total flop for the studio first and foremost because it was boring and forgettable. However, one major sticking point for parents was the gay teen romance at the center of it.
“Strange World” tells the story of a gay teen named Ethan who had the support of his parents, Searcher (Jake Gyllenhaal), and Meridian (Gabrielle Union). The family has to hunt for Searcher’s father, Jaeger (Dennis Quaid), who went missing when he was a child, which they did with the help of their disabled dog. All the while, Ethan struggled to approach his love interest, a boy named Diazo. Even beyond that, the whole storyline was a thinly veiled advertisement for climate change alarmism.
“Strange World” was a flop at the box office and among Disney fans. This was especially interesting following the previous year’s box office disappointment, “Lightyear,” which was convoluted, boring, and included a highly publicized same-sex kiss between two minor characters.
It’s no wonder that GLAAD lauded both Disney and Netflix for bringing about a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/full-woke-disney-and-netflix-created-the-most-lgbtq-inclusive-content-in-2022" target="_blank" rel="noopener">record increase</a> in “LGBTQ-inclusive” content between January 1 and December 31, 2022. You’re not imagining it; they really are coming after children with a “not at all secret gay agenda,” as one Disney employee infamously bragged about during a company all-hands.
This targeting can be overt but it can also be subtle. In a spinoff of the massively popular cartoon “Paw Patrol,” which is marketed to toddlers and preschoolers, writers added a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/popular-paw-patrol-cartoon-spinoff-slammed-for-introducing-non-binary-character" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new “non-binary” character</a> created by a radical leftist activist who was just delighted at the opportunity to introduce small children to LGBTQ concepts. 
“They brought me on to consult on the first nonbinary character—meet River!!—for the PP universe and write their episode, talk about a bucket list item,” Lindsay Amer, who runs the YouTube channel “Queer Kids Stuff,” wrote on social media. The content creator also discussed the intentional messaging with River, including shoes featuring the trans flag colors.

“I wanted to write a nonbinary character that was aspirational and incredibly cool, someone for the pups (and kids at home) to look up to. They found an awesome non-binary actor to voice River and I’m so so happy about how it turned out,” the post continued. Amer also shared photos of River’s shoes.
“Peep River’s [non-binary, transgender] kicks!” the activist added.
One of the most egregious upcoming follies for Disney is their live-action remake of the classic movie “Snow White.” After being plagued by bad press and mockery, the studio <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disneys-snow-white-delay-reportedly-comes-from-fears-it-will-be-a-financial-disaster-insider-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushed the project</a> to 2025 and appears to have gone back to the drawing board after the film’s lead actress, Rachel Zegler, bragged about deviating far from the original storyline.
“I just mean that it’s no longer 1937,” Zegler said of the new film. “We absolutely wrote a ‘Snow White’ [who’s] not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love; she’s going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be, and the leader that her late father told her she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true.”
After photos of the “seven magical creatures” who didn’t resemble the original seven dwarfs even slightly went viral, Disney appears to have reimagined those characters as well.
The constant virtue-signaling and woke-ified children’s content coming from the entertainment industry has many parents looking for alternative options. Now, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel. After asking for this type of content for years, The Daily Wire answered the call with Bentkey, a new adventure in kids entertainment.

Instead of getting into radical race and gender theories, Bentkey seeks to entertain and delight. There may be learning, and all the shows are inspired by traditional values and the pursuit of truth and beauty, but above all they are entertaining. Isn’t that what it’s supposed to be about? 
Coming up, Bentkey has all-new episodes just in time for the holidays, and none of the content will include pandering, virtue signaling, or <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/target-mocked-for-selling-disabled-black-santa-ornament-pride-nutcrackers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trans flag-waving nutcrackers</a>. It will be wholesome, joy-filled, and entertaining for the whole family. 
Several original kids shows are available for streaming on the new platform including fan favorites “Chip Chilla” and “A Wonderful Day With Mabel Maclay.” The Benkey exclusive “Gus Plus Us” will also be debuting a Christmas special in December.

Megan: So Jeremy, I am in the midst of the heavy mom years. All my friends are moms and we&#8217;re constantly talking about this problem of entertainment — especially the need to monitor our kids&#8217; shows for content we don&#8217;t want them exposed to. It&#8217;s truly become a constant source of aggravation. There has been nothing like this for my demographic and I’ve never seen this level of excitement and enthusiasm. The first question I want to ask you is, what was your inspiration for this particular venture? And when you were thinking about what you wanted this kids entertainment platform to offer, what kind of shows did you have in mind?
Jeremy: Well, I think one of the reasons that Daily Wire has been successful is because we don&#8217;t necessarily give people exactly what they think they want. We give them what we think they actually want. And so, at Daily Wire I&#8217;ve always said part of our job as lowercase “r” republicans is to represent our audience, never to betray our audience, but also to help lead our audience to the thing they actually want. If you watch many of the movies we&#8217;ve produced along the way, we try to make movies that are actually good, entertaining movies for adults and aren&#8217;t movies that pander to complete ideological purity, because I think it actually results in being unentertaining. But when we got the opportunity to make content for kids, I felt completely the opposite. Adults should be challenged, adults should be exposed to things that they don&#8217;t always agree with, so that adults can make good and informed decisions. Kids do not have the tools to make those kinds of decisions. You say you&#8217;re a mom and you&#8217;re in your core mom years — you&#8217;re on the front lines of the most important battle not only of our time, but of all time. And that&#8217;s inculcating values into children. It&#8217;s teaching children how to become the adults we want to see them become. And for that reason, when I started thinking about what kind of content we want to make in our kids entertainment operation, the answer was obvious to me: I want to make wonderful, beautiful, hilarious, highly entertaining content that is chock-full of goodness, that parents can trust implicitly. So when they put their kids in front of one piece of our content, they don’t have to worry about what it’s going to roll into as the next piece of content. Of course, parents should vet our content just like they do everything for their kids. You&#8217;re the most responsible person for your kids. But what if you don&#8217;t? If you didn&#8217;t, I want it to still be okay, because we&#8217;re vetting that content.

Jeremy: I think every single scene of “A Wonderful Day with Mabel Maclay” perfectly encapsulates what we&#8217;re trying to create.

Megan: Even though my kids are long past pre-school age, a friend of mine who has a 3-year-old watched several episodes and she told me she was really struck by the quality of the production that has gone into “Mabel Maclay.” She did wonder, though, how Daily Wire, a new player in this game, is going to be able to keep up the pace of that level of production.
Jeremy: We&#8217;ve launched 16 series, almost 150 episodes on the app with new episodes coming every single Saturday. We&#8217;re bringing back Saturday morning cartoons. But only four of those shows are original productions. It&#8217;ll take a long time before we&#8217;ve produced enough original content that everything on the app is ours. Now, that&#8217;s not to say that everything on the app hasn&#8217;t been vetted, it has been — every single minute of every single show. But obviously the shows we&#8217;re making best represent what our long-term vision is for the company.

Megan: When I was looking through the current offerings, it was very clear to me that there&#8217;s been an effort, right out of the gate, to serve all the different kids demographics, all at once. I have a 14-year-old, and a 9-year-old, and I often have nieces and nephews who range all the way from 2 to 10 years old over at my house. What I appreciated was that we went from “Mabel Maclay” and some other shows for the very youngest set to “Runes” and then to “How Ridiculous,” which appeal to older kids. “How Ridiculous” features the well-known trio of young Australian men doing their signature YouTube competitions. And I&#8217;ll tell you, Jeremy, there was an audible cheer from the 9- and 10-year-olds in our house when they saw that “How Ridiculous” was available. So, was it a deliberate decision? Why get something for all of these age ranges and release them all right out of the gate rather than release them one at a time? What was the thinking behind that?
Jeremy: I suppose it&#8217;s because we believe this is the most important work we have ever undertaken. The politics of the day are urgent, but the culture is important. And most of our Daily Wire efforts heretofore have been focused on the urgent problem. This is a turn to the important problem, the generational problem. And you can&#8217;t just say, “Well, let&#8217;s start with four-year-olds,” and, be on the hundred-year plan or the 20-year plan to raise them to adulthood, you&#8217;ve got to go meet all the needs. Where the needs exist. Doesn&#8217;t mean you can do all of that all at one time, all the time, but we certainly thought at launch we needed to be serving all kids and then you&#8217;ll learn over time which kids are reacting better to the kind of content that you&#8217;re making and you&#8217;ll make more investments in those areas. But right out of the gate, it was very important to us to serve all of the needs that a parent might have in this regard.
Megan: Are there shows from your childhood or, you know, as you were growing up over the years that you remember and you think that was a great show, that was a great film, that&#8217;s what I aspire to, that stick out in your mind today? 
Jeremy: Oh, absolutely. The first one is “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” I grew up with no cable, we had network television which was three channels back then, but we also had PBS. I loved “Mr. Rogers” for this very reason: “Mr. Rogers” was about goodness. I can&#8217;t tell you what Fred Rogers’ politics were, but I know that my politics were built on a foundation that Fred Rogers helped to create by loving and celebrating childhood, by inspiring me to use my imagination, to think about what was right and what was wrong. That show has sort of been my North Star as I&#8217;ve thought about the kind of content we want to create.
Megan: Well, it&#8217;s interesting then because when I was watching “Mabel Maclay,” I thought we don&#8217;t really have this kind of thing anymore and she brought me back to Fred Rogers in a way I didn&#8217;t really remember for years.
Jeremy: Absolutely. You know, I&#8217;ve known Ryan and Katie Chase, who created “Mabel Maclay,” for two decades. They ran a kids improv school in L.A. They love children, they understand children and they know the power of childhood. I think they were in many ways put on earth to make this show. And in our earliest conversations, I kept saying, “Mr. Rogers, Mr. Rogers, Mr. Rogers.” I think what they created, though, is in no way derivative. If anything, it&#8217;s sort of like one part “Mr. Rogers,” one part “Mary Poppins.” It has this whimsy and magic that “Mr. Rogers” didn&#8217;t have, but it has all the goodness and all of the relating to kids and  “meeting kids where they are” aspect of what Fred Rogers was able to create with “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” So that was very much on their mind and on my mind as that show was developed.

Megan: You mentioned what you&#8217;re not trying to do here is create entirely ideologically driven entertainment, that it&#8217;s something that kids will really enjoy. But to do that, you need really talented artists potentially across the ideological spectrum themselves. So, how do you recruit talented artists who aren&#8217;t afraid of being associated with a conservative company?
Jeremy: Well, it&#8217;s always challenging in our part of the ideological world to recruit great artists. For one thing, artists tend to be liberal. It&#8217;s a very natural thing that occurs — that conservatives tend to forsake the arts across all of history and liberals tend to engage in the arts across all of history. Then you run into the problem of, if they come work for us, they are in some ways risking their career. And it&#8217;s a lot to ask someone to risk their career for a job. What I will say, though, is that it has been much, much easier to recruit with our kids entertainment program than it has been with our general entertainment program. And I think the reason is this: If you risked it all; you left your home and your family; you “went west, young man;” you waited tables, even after law school, and you went to work in the mailroom at one of the big agencies, all of that to try to get your foot in the door in Hollywood. And you had the opportunity to write on some HBO show that&#8217;s one of the most high quality shows ever made, but a lot of what&#8217;s in it you don&#8217;t necessarily approve of. There&#8217;s a high probability you&#8217;ll take that opportunity, because you&#8217;ll rationalize, and probably not altogether incorrectly, “Yes, I don&#8217;t agree with everything about this show, but the opportunity to work at this high level can&#8217;t be denied and adults can make their own decisions.” But when you ask people to do that with content that is aimed at 7-year-olds, they simply cannot live with themselves. You&#8217;re now not asking them to do something where people can make rational choices, you&#8217;re asking them to treat children like they&#8217;re specimens in a petri dish and to experiment on them with all of these radical new ideas. The kinds of people who are drawn to children&#8217;s entertainment love children and so they simply can&#8217;t sleep at night. And for that reason, we have an embarrassment of riches in this department. People want this to work. They want to come work for this company. They want to see it succeed because they don&#8217;t want to do evil.
Megan: Yeah, it&#8217;s been interesting to me to hear the buzz from people that I know in some of these studios, particularly Disney, who quietly have reached out to me and to others I know and said,“Hey, what&#8217;s going on over there? Do you have room for someone like me for someone, you know, with my talents?” But part of what I&#8217;ve noticed, and obviously you leaned into this a little bit in the announcement, is the dichotomy between what your vision is and where a company like Disney is now. And one of the things you announced along with the <a href="https://get.dailywire.com/subscribe/plus?utm_campaign=bentkey&amp;utm_medium=podcastdescriptions&amp;utm_source=podcastdescriptions&amp;utm_content=na&amp;_gl=1*ojrbxo*_ga*MTY3NDIxODg5My4xNjgyMDg3MjM4*_ga_CZKR9ZYKJP*MTY5ODY5Nzg4MC45OTMuMS4xNjk4NzAwNjIzLjUyLjAuMA.." target="_blank" rel="noopener">app launch</a> is that you&#8217;re working on a live-action adaptation of “Snow White” and here&#8217;s a little clip from that first teaser:

Megan: So, how do you respond to headlines like the one at The Hollywood Reporter that said that The Daily Wire is trolling Disney with this new “Snow White and the Evil Queen” adaptation? Do you think that&#8217;s a fair characterization?
Jeremy: Well, yes, it&#8217;s an accurate characterization. We are political. The Daily Wire is political. Launching Bentkey is a political act. The content at Bentkey, however, is not political. It&#8217;s pre-political. It&#8217;s for children. I don&#8217;t believe that children should be cogs in our, sort of, political war machine. I believe children should be children. But of course launching the company is political and of course making “Snow White and the Evil Queen” is political. It&#8217;s a reaction to the political move by Disney to remake their own animated classic, a tale of timeless truth, a fairy tale that was probably centuries old before it was ever written down by the Brothers Grimm that contains the kind of wisdom that generation after generation after generation after generation benefited from. To say, as Rachel Zegler did, “Yeah, it&#8217;s not 1937 anymore.” Rachel, the story wasn&#8217;t written in 1937. Those truths existed in that story long before Disney was born or Disney&#8217;s parents or his grandparents or his great-grandparents were born. To throw that out as though you know best, because you have imbibed the du jour woke politics — the crazy radical ideas of this fleeting moment — that&#8217;s the very reason Benkey exists. And so, responding to that is, yes, a troll of Disney. It&#8217;s a rebuke of Disney. It&#8217;s saying to Disney, “If you weren&#8217;t doing what you&#8217;re doing, we wouldn&#8217;t have to do what we&#8217;re doing.&#8221; But we do have to do what we&#8217;re doing. Because, as I said at the top, I think this is the most important fight that Ben Shapiro or Caleb Robinson or Jeremy Boreing or The Daily Wire have ever engaged in. This is what I most hope is our legacy.
Megan: Well, thanks so much, Jeremy. As I said, as a mom, finding entertainment for our kids that not only doesn&#8217;t undermine our values, but in fact actually can help establish them, is a constant source of concern. So, more and better options in this area are really welcome. We very much appreciate it.

If you were a teacher and were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/270lb-student-attacks-teacher-in-shocking-video-member-exclusive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">brutally beaten</a> to the point of unconsciousness by one of your students who has mental issues, would you forgive them and ensure they don’t serve a long prison stint? Or would you want the book thrown at the student? This is the choice that faced a teacher at Florida’s Matanzas High School this year.
In February, Joan Naydich told then-17-year-old Brendan Depa to put his Nintendo Switch away in class. When he refused, she confiscated the device. In turn, Depa, a 270-pound autistic student, followed her out of class in a full sprint, threw her to the ground, violently attacked her, knocked her unconscious, and brutally beat her to a pulp. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFidsUBMoV0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The security camera footage shows</a> that even after she is unconscious, he continues savagely punching her, hitting her head and neck, while three women attempt to pull this gigantic student off Naydich with no progress. A male then assists all the while Depa continues kicking Naydich in the head. Ultimately, five people have to work to pull this student off her. Incredibly, she survived this horrific attack and the student is now facing charges.

When I first saw this news story, I couldn’t believe it. What’s more, I couldn’t believe the comments I was reading — comments that qualified the student’s actions by continually mentioning that the student is autistic. These comments were basically saying, “Well, it’s not his fault that he is 270 pounds and brutally beat his teacher to a pulp. He has autism, and everyone knows that if you have autism, it means you really need your Nintendo in school and if a teacher takes it from you, you have to beat that teacher up.”
Any excuses for this student are absolutely absurd. Grown adults could not pull this student off Naydich. Watching the security camera footage of the beating, I legitimately believe that he would have beaten her to death. I believe that’s what he was intending to do and why he didn’t stop. Yet from what the commentary surrounding this incident implied, we are supposed to believe this is just a symptom of autism. However, I know several people who are autistic, two of which are in my family, and I have never — never — seen this side of autism at all. But people will always look for a way to appeal to emotions, no matter the circumstance. “Try to understand what the student is going through,” they will say. “This person came from a broken home, and his whole life is ahead of him.” They will make excuses for anything.

I’m happy to report this teacher is allowing the book to be thrown at this student. She probably decided this after watching her own beating, seeing as she couldn’t possibly have remembered it since she was knocked out almost instantly. Depa is facing 30 years in prison, and she is refusing to dial back the charges. This is good for a number of reasons, the first of which being that this combats a society that keeps saying we need to simply allow people to commit these sorts of crimes. These days, society doesn’t just stop at allowing crimes, but it also tells us to feel bad for the people who are committing them. I don’t understand this mentality in the least. It doesn’t make any sense to me. So, I say, good for this teacher — because students are apparently acting like inmates. This is the sort of story you would expect in a prison yard full of a bunch of inmates. In prison, you expect fights like this to break out. But in a school?

It is unfathomable to picture this happening in America 30 years ago, whereas now we see these sorts of instances every day across the country on college campuses and in the public school system. Not surprisingly, this particular school happens to have a history of violence. In fact, the school has been reported as beset with violence in recent years. Just this month, 11 students were arrested after a fight broke out in a crowded hallway. Reports say the fight started around 1:00 and utter chaos ensued. Deputies, staff, students, teachers — everyone was involved. Just a normal, average day of trying to get an education.

The chaos doesn’t end there. In another violent outbreak, a 16-year-old student was arrested for biting a teacher who had tried to stop her from fighting another girl. Bit her. Bit a teacher. So, if you are considering becoming a teacher and wondering what the job entails or if you have already started heading in the direction of that career path, you see what you have to look forward to. While you might think you will just tell a student to go to the principal’s office, you apparently have another thing coming. You probably didn’t think you would have to defend yourself so you aren’t beaten by a 270-pound student or bitten by a girl who just wants to fight, but this is what you’ll be in for. Again, this is what you expect to hear about happening in prisons, but now, it’s happening all across America.
These are serious issues — students beating teachers, vicious fights in classrooms, arrests at schools — but they are starting way before high school. They’re bigger than high school. These are societal problems. Obviously, this cannot all be fixed with one simple solution; however, we as Americans must start somewhere because when you realize you have moved further from where you want to be, you must recalibrate. You must turn around to get back on the right road. We want to right the ship; we need to right the ship. We have to return to instilling values in our society, the values that society seems to continually be waging war against. We see it in our entertainment industry, all the way down to our children’s entertainment industry. There is an even greater need, now more than ever, to protect wholesome, family values. We have let these values go, and the public school system is evidence of what that looks like when a society does not instill traditional values in children.

The <a href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bentkey-kids-entertainment/id6468091444" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bentkey app</a> was launched on Monday, the 100th anniversary of the founding of Disney, as Boreing announced that the first live-action film brought to the service would be “<a href="https://twitter.com/realDailyWire/status/1714000370806997389" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Snow White and the Evil Queen</a>,” featuring Daily Wire YouTube star Brett Cooper. Currently, the Bentkey app features 17 shows, including <a href="https://get.dailywire.com/subscribe/plus?utm_campaign=bentkey&amp;utm_medium=podcastdescriptions&amp;utm_source=podcastdescriptions&amp;utm_content=na&amp;_gl=1*ojrbxo*_ga*MTY3NDIxODg5My4xNjgyMDg3MjM4*_ga_CZKR9ZYKJP*MTY5ODY5Nzg4MC45OTMuMS4xNjk4NzAwNjIzLjUyLjAuMA.." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bentkey</a> original shows like “A Wonderful Day with Mabel Maclay,” and “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jeremy-boreing-debunks-silly-notion-that-new-bentkey-kids-show-chip-chilla-is-conservative-version-of-bluey" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chip Chilla</a>.” 
As for the name, Boreing said “<a href="https://get.dailywire.com/subscribe/plus?utm_campaign=bentkey&amp;utm_medium=podcastdescriptions&amp;utm_source=podcastdescriptions&amp;utm_content=na&amp;_gl=1*ojrbxo*_ga*MTY3NDIxODg5My4xNjgyMDg3MjM4*_ga_CZKR9ZYKJP*MTY5ODY5Nzg4MC45OTMuMS4xNjk4NzAwNjIzLjUyLjAuMA.." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bentkey</a>” comes from the bent key he’s worn around his neck every day for the last 28 years. 
“It&#8217;s the key to a small theater in a town called Post Texas, where I grew up doing plays and where I kind of discovered who I was and what I wanted to do in life,” Boreing said. “The full story of that is probably not one for this conversation.”
Boreing then went into the reasoning for stepping away from naming The Daily Wire’s kids entertainment company “DW Kids” — instead choosing <a href="https://get.dailywire.com/subscribe/plus?utm_campaign=bentkey&amp;utm_medium=podcastdescriptions&amp;utm_source=podcastdescriptions&amp;utm_content=na&amp;_gl=1*ojrbxo*_ga*MTY3NDIxODg5My4xNjgyMDg3MjM4*_ga_CZKR9ZYKJP*MTY5ODY5Nzg4MC45OTMuMS4xNjk4NzAwNjIzLjUyLjAuMA.." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bentkey</a>.
“Daily Wire is a very politically charged name. … And while the launching of our kids entertainment company is intrinsically a political act, what we&#8217;re trying to do with that political act is create content for kids that isn&#8217;t inherently political,” said Boreing.
“Bentkey isn&#8217;t about politics, and so that&#8217;s why we needed a new name,” he continued. “And I thought Bentkey was a fun name because it is mysterious, because it has this sense of whimsy.”

Boreing and Shapiro discussed how Shapiro had suggested producing kids entertainment to Boreing immediately after video of the Disney executive was posted, but initially, Boreing thought the endeavor was “impossible.”

“And then I laid back in bed to go back to sleep for another 40 minutes. And as I sat there, I thought, dammit, he&#8217;s right,” Boreing added. “I waited until the earliest possible moment that I could reach out to Caleb Robinson, our other business partner. and I said, Caleb, we&#8217;ve got to launch kids today.”
“And I said, I think that we have to announce today, while people are rightly outraged about what Disney what&#8217;s happening at Disney,” Boreing added. “I think we have to announce that we&#8217;re going to make an investment in kids and that we&#8217;re going to spend we&#8217;re going to commit $10 million over the next three years.”
The Daily Wire co-founder told Shapiro that the $10 million number seemed impossible when he discussed it with Daily Wire co-CEO Caleb Robinson, and Robinson told him he was “out of [his] mind.” But the Daily Wire executives couldn’t let the idea go. 
“I drive into work. By now, our COO, Jon Lewis, is involved in the conversation and we&#8217;ve decided that we&#8217;re just going to do it,” said Boreing. “We&#8217;re going to announce this initiative. We&#8217;re going to change the direction of our company in a deeply profound way.” 
Hours later, without having the opportunity or time to write a speech, Boreing stood on a stage in front of his employees and a livestream of Daily Wire members and announced — not a $10 million initiative — but a $100 million dedicated to the launch of kids entertainment. 
“$10 million sounded like a lot laying in my bed, but $10 million, it&#8217;s like one show. That&#8217;s not wanting a kids entertainment company. That&#8217;s launching a TV show, but what are we really doing here?” Boreing asked. 
“$100 million sounds impossible. And it is,” Boreing added. “And it&#8217;s nothing. Disney&#8217;s content budget is $1 billion a year. Hollywood spends like $180 billion a year on content. So to say that we&#8217;re going to spend $10 million isn&#8217;t taking seriously the scope of the fight that we&#8217;re claiming that we&#8217;re going to jump off into it. … If we’re going to do this, we&#8217;ve got to really do it.” 
As for where the money came from, Boreing said he and the company, including Shapiro, had to take a giant risk. 
“You and I and Caleb have diluted our ownership in the company to raise money, and we literally made ourselves poorer,” he said. “If it fails, much poorer. If it succeeds, maybe it was worth it.” 
After the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/introducing-bentkey-a-new-adventure-in-kids-entertainment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launch of Bentkey</a> on Monday, the success of the endeavor looks more than promising. The Bentkey app was the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/daily-wires-bentkey-app-hits-1-kids-app-on-apples-app-store-chart" target="_blank" rel="noopener">number one kids app</a> by the end of the day Monday. Already featuring 17 shows, four of which are Bentkey originals, and a live-action film in the works, Bentkey also “went around the world” to curate existing content, ensuring that the kids entertainment company continues to offer a “robust” slate of shows. 
“I think it&#8217;s an amazing start, but we wanted to make sure that our offering was robust. We want to make sure that parents get value for the money that they&#8217;re going to spend,” Boreing said. “So we also went around the world and curated existing content that we didn&#8217;t think betrayed the values of our audience.”
