As children raced through the halls of the Trump Kennedy Center waving miniature American flags and wearing Minuteman hats, Dr. Ben Carson stood at the center of what he hopes will become a new movement in children&#8217;s education.
The former Housing and Urban Development secretary, 2016 presidential candidate, and renowned neurosurgeon premiered “Star Spangled Adventures: The Movie” on Sunday as part of the <a href="https://americancornerstone.org/">American Cornerstone Institute&#8217;s</a> Little Patriots initiative, an effort designed to teach American history to children through books, films, and educational resources ahead of the nation&#8217;s 250th anniversary.
For Carson, the animated feature is about far more than entertainment. &#8220;In order for people to really develop patriotism, they need to know their history,&#8221; Carson said in an interview with The Daily Wire before the screening. &#8220;I was noticing that fewer and fewer people seem to know their history.&#8221;
The concern is one that animated nearly every aspect of the event. Throughout the afternoon, families packed the venue for patriotic activities before gathering for a screening of the film, which follows Liberty the Eagle through key moments in American history.
Carson argued that too many young Americans are being taught a distorted understanding of the country&#8217;s past. &#8220;Probably the biggest thing that&#8217;s missing is that we have a country with an honorable history,&#8221; Carson said. &#8220;There are those who have taken some of the bad things that have happened and tried to make that characterizing.&#8221;
While acknowledging that America has experienced failures throughout its history, Carson said modern education often focuses exclusively on those failures while ignoring the nation&#8217;s achievements.
The result, he warned, is a generation increasingly vulnerable to ideological movements hostile to America&#8217;s founding principles. &#8220;We look around and we see socialism and communism becoming acceptable,&#8221; Carson said. &#8220;Those things are not compatible with our Constitution.&#8221;
That concern helps explain why Carson chose animation as the medium for his latest project. The challenge, he said, was finding a way to communicate history to children without sacrificing historical accuracy. &#8220;We throw some humor in there, but it&#8217;s heavily weighted with facts,&#8221; Carson said. &#8220;We did it that way so that not only would the little kids enjoy it, but the parents, the grandparents, the teachers would learn also.&#8221;
The film boasts an unusually star-studded cast for an independent patriotic project. Kevin Sorbo voices George Washington, Gary Sinise portrays Robert E. Lee, Pat Boone appears as Abraham Lincoln, and actor John Schneider lends his voice to Revolutionary War militia commander Captain John Parker.
For Schneider, best known for his role on &#8220;The Dukes of Hazzard,&#8221; joining the project required little persuasion. &#8220;I love this country. I was raised to love this country and honor this country,&#8221; Schneider told The Daily Wire on the red carpet.
What motivated him, he said, was seeing what he described as a growing effort to rewrite American history. &#8220;After I turned 50 or so, I started seeing this revisionist history coming in and saying that our country was bad,&#8221; Schneider said. &#8220;It really aggravated me.&#8221;
Standing just steps away from children wearing colonial-era hats and red, white, and blue outfits, Schneider said the event represented something increasingly rare in modern American culture: an unapologetic celebration of the nation itself. &#8220;It&#8217;s so great to be part of something that is defending our history,&#8221; he said.
Among those attending the premiere was longtime Carson mentee and ally Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner, who described the event as representative of the &#8220;heartbeat of America.&#8221;
&#8220;Patriots — even young patriots, little children — families coming together, celebrating our great country together, celebrating our faith in God together,&#8221; Turner added.
The premiere also served as a launch point for Carson&#8217;s broader educational ambitions. Alongside the film, Carson released a new book, “Built on Faith,” a children’s book discussing America&#8217;s founders and the influence of religious belief in their lives.
According to Carson, “Star Spangled Adventures” is only the beginning. &#8220;There are a lot of creative ventures in the works,&#8221; he said. As America approaches its semiquincentennial celebration in 2026, Carson hopes those projects will help create a generation that understands not only the nation&#8217;s history but its responsibilities.
When asked what he hopes families discuss on the drive home after watching the film, Carson&#8217;s answer was simple. &#8220;How can we see more of this?&#8221; he said. &#8220;How can we get more involved?&#8221;
For Dr. Ben Carson, that conversation may ultimately be the point of all his efforts going forward; the movie itself is only one chapter in a much larger effort to convince America&#8217;s youngest citizens that their country&#8217;s story is worth knowing — and worth defending.

Many Americans in recent years have returned to religion in a revival that accelerated because of the work of the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, according to Dr. Ben Carson.
Carson, who served under the first Trump administration as secretary of Housing and Urban Development, spoke about Kirk’s legacy in an interview with The Daily Wire on the floor of Turning Point’s AmericaFest conference that ended on Sunday.
An American faith revival has “really been going on for the last couple of years,” said Carson. “I think it accelerated quite a bit with what Charlie was doing.”
The Trump administration alum said that many in Generation Z are finding faith because they recognized that the direction of the country without religious values was “not one that was going to lead to good things.” Many turned to religion after asking how the United States can “be a great nation.”
“The young men in particular are really coming back to church, and the young women will catch up, too,” said Carson, noting that women growing up today are facing complicated choices between balancing a career and having children. The doctor is optimistic that expanding opportunities for virtual work will improve women’s ability to balance both.

Carson’s think tank, the American Cornerstone Institute, has launched an initiative to aid in the work that Kirk did and to reacquaint young people with the United States’ founding and religious values: the Little Patriots program. Through the program, Carson hopes to set young Americans on a good path early in their education before “Marxists” in the education system corrupt their thinking with leftist and victimhood ideology.
“The two biggest teacher unions are full of Marxists, and so it&#8217;s a battle, but I think we have the better message, to be quite frank, and we just have to make sure that we don&#8217;t get discouraged and that we&#8217;re willing to fight as hard as they do,” he said.
As a veteran of the first Trump administration, Carson said that President Donald Trump’s second term is “incredible.”
“I think the Lord did us a favor by allowing Trump to lose – or at least to be perceived as losing – so that he wasn&#8217;t there for four years so he could really think about what happened, what were the obstacles, what were the things that really worked, so that by the time his next term came around, he was ready,” said Carson.

The Religious Liberty Commission met Monday for the first time at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., to discuss faith policies. The Commission was presided over by Chairman and Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Vice Chairman Dr. Ben Carson.
The commission was first established back in May by an <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/05/establishment-of-the-religious-liberty-commission/">executive order</a> from President Trump. The executive order commissioned a panel of professionals and public religious figures under the Department of Justice and Attorney General Pamela Bondi, who spoke at this first meeting.
Some notable <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/2025/05/president-trump-announces-religious-liberty-commission-members/">members of the commission</a> include Catholic Bishop Robert Barron, the founder of Word on Fire Ministry, and Pastor Paula White, the senior advisor to the White House Faith Office. Pastor Franklin Graham, a well-known Evangelical minister, Dr. Phil McGraw, host of the &#8220;Dr. Phil&#8221; talk show, and Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik, a premier Orthodox rabbi based in Manhattan, also serve on the commission.
The commission will run until July 4th, 2026, unless extended by Trump. Over the next year, the commission will meet periodically to hear the testimonies of prominent legal scholars and religious leaders.
Patrick began the meeting by restating the commission&#8217;s purpose, as laid out in its charter. The purpose, he said, was &#8220;to advise and to report to the president&#8221; their findings on the treatment of religion in America.
Carson, who has previously served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development during the first Trump administration, stated that the commission&#8217;s goal is to promote spirituality among Americans.
&#8220;This commission promotes freedom of beliefs and that spiritual aspect of our existence that advances civilization,&#8221; Carson said. &#8220;We will strive to facilitate the maintenance of one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.&#8221;
Kelly Shackelford, a constitutional scholar and member of the commission, remarked that, as the Founders of America believed, the first battle against dictatorial power would be fought on the grounds of religious freedom. Religious freedom, he said, is the &#8220;precipice of all of our freedoms.&#8221;
Paula White, a member of the commission, leads the first White House Faith Office for the president. White commented, &#8220;The Commission will focus on long-term strategies to secure religious freedom for future generations. We will gather data, conduct legal analysis, hold public hearings to capture the stories of everyday Americans related to religious liberty.&#8221;
Later in the meeting, Attorney General Pam Bondi commented on the Trump administration’s stance toward religious liberty.
&#8220;From the start, the United States of America was envisioned as a place where religious liberty meant the freedom to discern good from evil without the heavy hand of the government weighing in,&#8221; she said.
Bondi condemned the arrests of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-life-activist-sentenced-to-over-four-years-in-prison-over-protest-at-d-c-abortion-facility">pro-life Christians</a>, those who <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYK1XPKdV7M">blocked access to synagogues</a> in antisemitic protests, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-de-blasio-threatens-to-permanently-close-nyc-churches-if-they-dont-comply-with-social-distancing">prosecution</a> of church gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Biden administration’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-declares-easter-sunday-transgender-day-of-visibility">declaration</a> of a transgender day of visibility on Easter in 2024, as well as other anti-religious acts.
Bondi added, &#8220;This president and this administration are fully committed to restoring and defending religious liberty for all Americans. The Religious Liberty Commission will be the tip of the spear. Together we will return America to the vision of our Founders – a nation where faith merely isn’t tolerated but it&#8217;s embraced and celebrated.&#8221;

Harris recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kamala-defends-flip-flops-in-cnn-interview-says-her-values-have-not-changed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">insisted</a> on CNN, during her first and only major TV interview since embarking on her own campaign, that her &#8220;values have not changed&#8221; despite the flip-flops. Polls have shown a very close race, with a fresh New York Times/Siena survey showing Harris&#8217; convention <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kamalas-dnc-convention-bounce-evaporates-in-latest-nytimes-siena-poll" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;bounce&#8221; dissipating</a> ahead of her first debate against Trump.
Jason Chaffetz, a former Republican congressman from Utah who was filling in as guest host on &#8220;Futures,&#8221; responded to Carson, &#8220;Yes, you kind of wonder, is Kamala Harris going to debate Kamala Harris? I mean, because her policies on the core issues, major flip-flops. And one of those things that I think is going to be at the forefront of a lot of people&#8217;s mind has to do with — and you&#8217;re a doctor — Medicare For All. Is she really, truly supporting the notion that she would get rid of private insurance for more than 100 million Americans, and make sure that it&#8217;s a government-run health care system? Because that&#8217;s what she has advocated for.&#8221;
In reply, Carson said, &#8220;Well, she has advocated that in the past. Of course, she will probably try to run away from it. Interestingly enough, those who are students of history know that Vladimir Lenin said that socialized medicine is the linchpin for socialism. This is the way that you bring it in. When you have control of people&#8217;s health, you have control of them. And we spend an enormous amount of money on health care in this country, more than any other country, $13,100 per capita per year.&#8221;
Carson went on, &#8220;Can you imagine what you could do with that money in an efficient system, an efficient system that used health care savings accounts or something of that nature, where there was real accountability and transparency? Those are the kinds of things that obviously need to be talked about and explored to a much greater degree than we are now. But socialized medicine has only led to much poorer distribution of medicine everywhere it has been tried. And the same thing would happen in this country as well.&#8221;
At the end of the interview, Chaffetz noted how Carson has experience on the debate stage, where he faced Trump and others during the 2016 Republican primary contest and asked Carson to give his &#8220;final guess&#8221; on what will happen Tuesday night.
&#8220;I think Kamala Harris is going to try to get under Donald Trump&#8217;s skin,&#8221; Carson said. &#8220;That&#8217;s what the preparation is all about. How do you get under his skin? Also, she needs to be told what her policies are, because she doesn&#8217;t really know what they are. Nobody else does either. Donald Trump doesn&#8217;t have to prep, because the truth is always the truth. You don&#8217;t have to try to figure out what things will resonate with people. You just say who you are. He&#8217;s very transparent. And I think the people will appreciate that. So it&#8217;s going to be a widely watched debate. It&#8217;s going to be a lot of fun.&#8221;

Among those who have so far received requests are North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), and former cabinet member Ben Carson.
Those listed may not be the only ones who have contacted thus far as ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/vp-contenders-burgum-vance-rubio-asked-documents-trump/story?id=110870278" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that &#8220;others are likely to be considered for the No. 2 job.&#8221; The Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-vp-paperwork-vetting-b1e21a7e9eae7141c4f144735671b330" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the list is &#8220;fluid and evolving,&#8221; meaning that it will likely change as Trump sees fit.
A Trump campaign spokesperson said that &#8220;anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump.&#8221;
Polling last month from an I&amp;I/TIPP Poll indicated that 15% of Republican voters choose Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as their first choice for VP, while 14% choose him as their second choice for VP — both numbers were the highest of all the candidates listed.
Out of the candidates who were listed by the Associated Press, Carson had the highest ranking for first choice in the poll at 5%, followed by Scott at 4%, Rubio at 2%, and the remaining contenders at 1% or less.
Another name that has generated headlines in recent weeks and might be moving up Trump&#8217;s board for contenders is Sen. During an interview on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; anchor Jake Tapper asked Carson if Trump could improve his numbers after getting 12% of the black vote — including 19% of black men — in the 2020 contest against now-President Joe Biden.
&#8220;I think, you know, black Americans are no different than any other Americans,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/simonateba/status/1792199995849859203" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Carson, himself a black man who served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development throughout the Trump administration.
&#8220;They feel the pinch of the inflation. You know, they know what it feels like when they have to go fill up their gas tank,&#8221; he said. &#8220;They see the crime that&#8217;s running rampant, that people, repeat offenders are being let out of prison and endangering them and their neighborhoods.&#8221;
Carson added, &#8220;They see what&#8217;s happening with the border and how that&#8217;s impacting their own communities, how other people&#8217;s issues are being put on the front burners and theirs are being put on the back burners. I think those are the issues that are pushing them toward Trump.&#8221;
Polling in recent months indicates that more black voters, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-leading-in-5-of-6-swing-states-nyt-philadelphia-inquirer-siena-college-polls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">particularly black men</a>, are turning away from Biden and said they plan to support Trump in the 2024 election across several battleground states.

&#8220;We have a unique situation, where you have juxtaposed two different administrations with different philosophies,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And people can see, how did one feel versus how did the other feel? And I would love to debate with her or with anyone about that.&#8221;

President Joe Biden has avoided taking a simple mental evaluation because the White House wants to avoid exposing the severity of the president’s mental decline, according to Dr. Ben Carson.
Carson is the former head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under former President Trump and a highly-decorated neurosurgeon. The Yale-educated doctor said “it’s pretty obvious” watching Biden that the president’s mental acuity has fallen drastically in recent years.
“Just look at the different interviews over the years and compare the way he speaks now to the way he spoke, you know, five years ago, ten years ago. Obviously, a big decline. That’s not something that is normal,” Carson said in an interview with The Daily Wire. “There is a decline with aging and memory and various other things, but not to that degree. There is something else going on with him.”
Carson said the president could easily be evaluated for his short term memory. The White House refuses to put the president through the test, however, because Biden would likely fail.
“They’ll ask questions like, count down from 100 by 7s. They’ll ask you to name three objects, you can pick any three objects you want and tell them what they are, then they’ll ask you a whole bunch of other questions, and then they’ll say, ‘what were those three objects?’ just to test your short term memory,” Carson said, explaining the lack of rigor in the test. “They’re not difficult questions … but I can pretty much guarantee you that he wouldn’t be able to do that.”
Recent polls of Americans suggest that voters tend to agree with Carson’s observations about the president, or at least echo the doctor’s concerns. According to the results of a Deseret News/HarrisX <a href="https://www.deseret.com/politics/2024/03/12/poll-donald-trump-joe-biden-mentally-fit-for-president/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a> released earlier this month, 63% of registered voters are concerned that the 81-year-old president is not mentally fit enough to perform the duties of a U.S. president.

Retired neurosurgeon and former Trump cabinet member <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ben-carson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ben Carson</a> told The Daily Wire that diversity, equity, and inclusion <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-dei" target="_blank" rel="noopener">(DEI)</a> programs would hamper American ingenuity and stand in the way of excellence.
Carson, who headed up the Department of Housing and Urban Development under former President Donald Trump, said on Monday that Americans would soon be feeling the negative effects of DEI in medicine. Carson, who became a world famous surgeon after growing up in poverty, said that everybody should be subjected to the same standards instead of focusing on identity.
“What we should be concentrating on is raising everybody to the appropriate standard rather than lowering the standards so that we can put more people in,” Carson told The Daily Wire. “The whole DEI argument is illogical if you are looking for excellence.”
Carson spoke about how he was being pressured at his own company for not having a certain percentage of women in higher level positions because he focused on experience and qualifications when looking to hire.
Speaking about his own experience as a child, Carson said he remembered going to Chattanooga and seeing signs designating certain spaces only for white or black people. He said that while much progress had been made, DEI might set back race relations.
“What DEI does is it takes one group and gives them an advantage over another group the same way it used to be in reverse,” he said. “Two wrongs don’t make a right, and all it’s going to do is exacerbate relationships rather than improve relationships.”
Carson said that the many companies adopting DEI programs and initiatives were “not taking the long view,” but instead trying to earn praise and accolades from activists. He said corporate heads knew that DEI would not be “conducive to excellence,” but were choosing to stick “their heads in the sand like an ostrich.”

The former presidential candidate added that focusing on DEI would distract Americans from focusing on entrepreneurship and developing new inventions.
“You have to recognize that the United States of America is very unique in the sense that we developed an environment that encourages entrepreneurship and innovation,” he said. “That’s why 90% of the earth shattering inventions came out of the United States even though there was a lot of other world out there. And obviously, if we now change that environment, it’s going to have a deleterious effect on who we are and our leadership.”
Carson&#8217;s comments come as major medical schools have come under fire for incorporating the tenets of DEI into their curriculum and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ben-shapiro-reveals-how-ucla-med-students-are-taught-anti-white-anti-american-hatred" target="_blank" rel="noopener">teaching students</a> about things like colonialism and liberation during their time in medical school.

Carson, who ran for the Republican Party&#8217;s presidential nomination in 2016 and subsequently served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for nearly four years in the Trump administration, <a href="https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/4282613-ben-carson-endorses-trump-2024-at-iowa-rally/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gave</a> the GOP frontrunner his “most confident and full endorsement” while introducing him at a campaign rally in Sioux City, Iowa. 
“Benjamin Franklin was asked in 1787 after they finished the Constitutional Convention, ‘Sir, what do we have here? A monarchy or a republic?’ He said, ‘A republic, if you can keep it.’ The way we can keep it is we can put Donald J. The former GOP candidate <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcOiWYEnjVA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blasted</a> the Biden administration’s border policies and told the crowd that under Trump, the United States had a secure border. Carson said it’s almost certain that terrorists have flowed through the border during Biden’s three years in office, quipping it would be “terrorist malpractice” if they weren’t already planning something.

He also touted Trump’s record on energy, the protection of freedom of speech, and the lower prices of consumer goods and gasoline during his administration. Carson said that during his 2016 campaign, he found that while most Americans had “common sense,” they didn’t always have the “courage” to say what they believed. 
“But one man had the courage to take on the political establishment and give the people a voice in Washington, with no concern about what it would cost him,” Carson said. “Donald Trump lost millions if not billions of dollars. And he’s been attacked constantly and demonized, and yet, he’s still there. They haven’t gotten rid of him. They’re trying to do everything in their power to get rid of him. Because he’s the biggest threat to the administrative state and to the swamp &#8212; I don&#8217;t call it a swamp, I call it a cesspool.”
On Truth Social, Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/111321131874065711" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> it was a “great honor” to receive Carson’s endorsement. The former president told the crowd he was confident that he would win Iowa because of his policies that he said helped farmers, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-iowa-republicans-caucuses-campaign-2024-89b7fee7f2cc8a2a14ac211e74e74ff7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. 
According to RealClearPolitics, Trump’s <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/ia/2024_iowa_republican_presidential_caucus-8164.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">polling average</a> in Iowa is 48.8%, well ahead of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s 17.3% and former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley’s 11.5%. Trump also holds the <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/us/2024_republican_presidential_nomination-7548.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lead</a> in the national GOP primary average of polls.

The House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/january-6-committee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">January 6 Committee</a>, now disbanded, released Social Security numbers belonging to hundreds of Americans, including former Trump staffers and other top <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/republican-party" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Republican</a> officials.
After the committee’s last public meeting last month, it released a trove of official records, testimonies, transcripts, and other information that it collected as part of its 18-month investigation into the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. One of those documents was a spreadsheet containing nearly 2,000 Social Security numbers of people who visited the White House in December 2020.
Among the Social Security numbers on the list, since removed from January 6 files, was information associated with at least three Trump cabinet members, as well as some Republican governors and numerous officials and allies, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/01/06/social-security-numbers-jan-6-committee-documents/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Washington Post</a>. Those people whose information was on the spreadsheet are now at an “elevated risk” to be victims of identity theft-related crimes, Identity Theft Resource Center COO James Lee said.
The committee appears to have not immediately notified officials of the leak. Ian Fury, a spokesman of South Dakota Republican Governor Kristi Noem, whose information was on the removed document, said, “To my knowledge, we were not notified. The governor was not notified.”
Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, whose information was also on the sheet, told the Post: “Whether it was a careless and sloppy handling of records or a deliberate disregard of decorum, either scenario is a perfunctory and callous display of government and a frightening reminder of the current state in Washington. … President Reagan was a savant indeed — the nine most frightening words to hear are ‘I am from the government and here to help.’”
The committee said that all information released to the public was first reviewed for sensitive personal information and that any release of sensitive information such as Social Security numbers was a mistake.
The January 6 Committee, which was stacked with Democratic lawmakers and included two former GOP lawmakers, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, investigated the January 6 riot at the Capitol with an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liberal-bias-or-cheney-2024-j6-staffers-liz-cheney-trade-blows-over-final-committee-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">emphasis</a> on former President Donald Trump’s role in the chaotic event. On December 19, at its last public hearing, the committee <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-j6-committee-recommends-criminal-charges-against-trump-over-capitol-riot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voted</a> to recommend the Department of Justice charge the former president over the riot.
Trump “lost the 2020 election and knew it, but he choose to try and stay in office through a multi-part scheme to overturn the results and block the transfer of power,” committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) said. “In the end, he summoned a mob to Washington and, knowing they were armed and angry, pointed them to the Capitol and told them to ‘fight like hell.’ There’s no doubt about this.”
The committee voted to recommend Trump be charged with obstructing an official proceeding, conspiring to defraud the United States, conspiring to make false statements to the federal government, and inciting an insurrection.
Attorney General Merrick Garland tapped former war crimes prosecutor Jack Smith, who previously worked at the international criminal court at The Hague, as special counsel to take over two Department of Justice probes into Trump over the January 6 riot and a cache of classified documents Trump allegedly improperly stored at Mar-a-Lago.

&#8220;You know, I talked, the first time I spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast in 1997, about the fact that political correctness, if we continued along that pathway, was going to destroy our nation, it has continued to get worse,&#8221; Carson said. &#8220;Now it&#8217;s morphed into wokeness. And we have a situation on our college campuses where students are afraid to express themselves, conservative students are.&#8221;
&#8220;College is supposed to be a place where you explore, and you have an opportunity to discuss certain things so that you can determine which way you&#8217;re going. And basically, what&#8217;s happening is people are being shut down,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And it doesn&#8217;t have to be the government that shuts down your freedom of speech, you know, big tech, social media, college professors can shut down your speech.&#8221;

DR. BEN CARSON: Well, thank you, Tammy. And Merry Christmas. Our freedoms come from God — that’s stated in our Declaration of Independence, and yet we&#8217;re allowing them to be taken away from us. And now, we also have a government that is insinuating itself into every aspect of our lives. You know, liberty and community was about what the people could do, not what the government could do. And it&#8217;s impacting us tremendously. You look at the omnibus bill that was just passed, and all the pork that&#8217;s in there, and all the programs, you know, these are not programs that the government is supposed to be doing. These are things that we the people are supposed to be doing, and how we&#8217;re supposed to be working together in our communities to strengthen ourselves. And we&#8217;re allowing all of that to be taken away from us. We don’t — most people don&#8217;t even know their neighbors anymore, don&#8217;t even know what their names are, have no idea who they are. All of these things are changing us from the dynamic and innovative people that we used to be, we had a system that encouraged innovation, and entrepreneurship. And we — most of the big inventions in the world came from the United States of America. But if everybody is thinking the same way and saying the same things, where&#8217;s that out of the box thinking that&#8217;s going to allow us to continue to be that beacon?
BRUCE: Well, it&#8217;s, I think that&#8217;s part of the thing that they want that the Left wants to stop — is that they resent America being a beacon. They don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s a good thing because we, of course, encourage human ingenuity and personal freedom and that is the problem for the Left, because Americans don&#8217;t like the Left in that regard. And you&#8217;re an example, sir, of what they don&#8217;t want to have be reflected as a role model and as a potential career. And this is where we start getting people erased. In response to his four years of service in the <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/trump-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trump administration</a>, community members pressed the city’s school board to scrub his name from the school christened in his honor.
Carson reacted to the decision earlier this week during an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/ben-carson-name-removed-detroit-high-school-ideology-trumping-purpose-institutions.amp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
&#8220;We&#8217;re seeing this wokeness spreading throughout our community to the destruction of our community,” he remarked. “How does it do any good for us to demonize people with whom we disagree and to teach that to our children at a time when the math scores are down, the reading scores are down, academic performance is down?&#8221;
Residents began pushing for officials in the Detroit Public Schools Community District to rename the Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine soon after the physician was confirmed to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2017. One board member said that residents of the impoverished rust belt city “don’t support” the Trump administration, according to an <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/restricted/?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.detroitnews.com%2Fstory%2Fopinion%2Fcolumnists%2Fnolan-finley%2F2022%2F12%2F14%2Ffinley-dps-cancels-ben-carson-sends-awful-message%2F69727506007%2F" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opinion piece</a> in The Detroit News. Board member Sherry Gay-Dagnogo said that she has “received so many requests” from community members about Carson’s name due to the “many of the disparaging remarks he made from the administration that he clings to,” according to a <a href="https://detroit.chalkbeat.org/2022/9/28/23376807/detroit-public-schools-ben-carson-east-english-village-name-change-dpscd-finney-crockett" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Chalkbeat Detroit.
The opposition occurs even though Carson, who is black, had widely been regarded as a model for students seeking to lift themselves from difficult circumstances. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a medical degree from the University of Michigan, later becoming the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University at the age of 33, even though such opportunities were difficult to attain for African Americans at the time. He pioneered the use of hemispherectomies to treat severe pediatric epilepsies and successfully conducted several high-risk operations on conjoined twins.
Last month&#8217;s vote to change the name of the high school, which is <a href="https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/michigan/districts/detroit-public-schools-community-district/benjamin-carson-high-school-of-science-and-medicine-147442" target="_blank" rel="noopener">three-quarters</a> black, reportedly occurred even though the majority of students who responded to a recent poll did not want to change the school&#8217;s name. Among multiple students opposing the name change interviewed by Chalkbeat Detroit in September was junior Antavia Ellis: “That’s the whole reason I came to this school, because I want to become a surgeon.”
Dozens of staffers who worked under Carson in the federal government penned an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/worked-ben-carson-know-canceling-just-not-right" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opinion piece</a> published by Fox News likewise condemning the move. “The truth is, Dr. Carson should have dozens of schools named after him,” they wrote. “We firmly believe removing the name of a man like this leaves us all the worse off for it, especially the students this political stunt purports to set an example for. We hope each student aspires to be the type of leader Dr. Carson is: a compassionate and humble man that cares deeply about the future of our children.”
The retired physician, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008, also leads the Carson Scholars Fund, which <a href="https://carsonscholars.org/scholarships/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">grants</a> college scholarships to students who demonstrate academic excellence and community service. A devout Seventh-Day Adventist, he often speaks of his faith as a critical factor behind his successes.
