<p style="font-weight: 400;">In an Amazon Prime Day advertisement, Maybelline featured influencer Ryan Vita applying Maybelline’s “Super Stay” liquid lipstick for its roughly 12 million Instagram followers.</p>

<p>The backlash against Maybelline echoes last month&#8217;s Bud Light-Dylan Mulvaney debacle. After its fiasco with Mulvaney, Bud Light became even cheaper than water, at least at one Pennsylvania store.</p>

<p>The beer brand and its parent company, Anheuser-Busch, have been stuck in a public relations nightmare since it struck an endorsement deal with Dylan Mulvaney, a flamboyant trans influencer who claims to be a woman. Mulvaney<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/CqgTftujqZc/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=be47ac0a-7017-4d6d-a424-8dcf6d27a837" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVGDPlG42bU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> to his 1.8 million Instagram followers on April 1, and sales of Bud Light promptly cratered.</p>

<p>“This month I celebrated my day 365 of womanhood, and Bud Light sent me possibly the best gift ever, a can with my face on it,” Mulvaney said.</p>

<p>After beer drinkers abandoned Bud Light in droves, the company put two of the marketing execs behind the ill-advised idea on ice. But sales have not rebounded, even with prices marked down.</p>

<p>“At this point, it’s cheaper than some of the cases of water we’re selling in the back,” Andy Wagner, the manager of Glenn Miller’s Beer &amp; Soda Warehouse in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, told the<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/29/business/bud-light-sales.html?searchResultPosition=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a>. “It’s just not moving like it used to.”</p>

<p>“It’s not that they stopped drinking beer,” he continued. “They just stopped buying Bud Light.”  He said Anheuser-Busch broke “bar rules,&#8221; which means “no politics, no religion.”</p>

<p>Bud Light was the best-selling beer in the United States for over 20 years. In 2022, its sales surpassed $5 billion, but it has now been surpassed by Modelo Especial. In the four weeks ending in mid-June, Bud Light sales plummeted an average of 29 percent from the same period in 2022, according to the consulting firm Bump Williams. Since early April, Anheuser-Busch’s stock has plunged over 15%.</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">A report comprised of three studies showed that people who thought they were less attractive were more likely to wear masks.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The <a href="https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2023.1084941/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> was derived from three studies conducted by the Department of Psychology and Center for Happiness Studies at Seoul National University in South Korea. The first two studies found that people who thought they were good-looking were less willing to wear a mask; they were less likely to believe that mask-wearing made them look better. The third study found that their belief was stronger in situations where they needed to deliver a favorable impression.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“Research shows that individuals who perceive themselves as more (vs. less) attractive possess more socially desirable attributes &#8230; have higher self-esteem &#8230; and enjoy better mental and physical health,” the study stated.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The study claims that “as essential cues that signal (un) attractiveness (e.g., facial symmetry) &#8230; can be censored with a mask, mask-wearing might critically influence how one’s attractiveness is perceived. &#8230; relatively unattractive individuals are deemed more attractive with masks &#8230; previous findings suggest that mask-wearing enhances perceived attractiveness among unattractive individuals, while the opposite is true for attractive individuals.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The study points out that in South Korea, the term “ma-gi-kkun,” was coined to refer to people who intentionally wore a mask to give a more favorable impression; the study cites the American term “mask-fisher” to mean the same thing.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“We expect that individuals who perceive themselves as attractive (unattractive) will be less (more) likely to endorse the belief that wearing a mask <em>enhances</em> their perceived attractiveness,” the study states, concluding, “Our results consistently demonstrated that self-perceived unattractive individuals were more willing to wear a mask, as they believed it would benefit their attractiveness.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The Daily Mail <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-11702641/Unattractive-people-likely-continue-wearing-Covid-face-masks-study-suggests.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the people examined in the study were Americans recruited from Amazon Mechanical Turk and the average age of those in the study was 33 years old.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">According to an Ipsos <a href="https://www.ipsos.com/en-us/news-polls/axios-ipsos-coronavirus-index" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from early December, roughly half of the Americans they surveyed reported wearing masks “at all times or sometimes when on an airplane.” 39% of respondents said they wore masks at all times or sometimes when on public transportation or in a rideshare; 33% said they wore masks at all times or sometimes in grocery stores. 85% of respondents said that the COVID-19 virus would not go away during their lifetimes.</p>

<p>Supermodel Cindy Crawford made some refreshing comments about age and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/beauty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">beauty</a>, saying she doesn&#8217;t want people to call her &#8220;ageless,&#8221; adding that she doesn&#8217;t look 25 anymore, nor does she think she needs to.</p>
<p>The 56-year-old model talked about how terms like &#8220;ageless&#8221; place “too much pressure” on her to look like she&#8217;s 30 years younger, citing our &#8220;youth-obsessed culture,&#8221; <a href="https://hauteliving.com/2022/11/the-transformation-of-cindy-crawford-haute-living-cover-story/719814/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Haute Living</a> reported in a recent piece.</p>
<p>&#8220;I know all the ways that I&#8217;ve aged,&#8221; Crawford shared. &#8220;My face has gotten much thinner; my mouth isn&#8217;t as full. Being told I&#8217;m ageless isn&#8217;t right, especially because getting older is hard enough, never mind that we live in a youth-obsessed culture.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not 25, so why should I be trying to look 25?&#8221; she added. &#8220;Why do I want someone to mistake me for a 25-year-old? I&#8217;ve had children. I have all this life experience.&#8221;</p>
