<p>&#8220;Three&#8217;s Company&#8221; star Suzanne Somers revealed that the late <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-barbara-walters-legendary-abc-news-journalist-dies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barbara Walters</a> asked her to co-host the early days of &#8220;The View&#8221; as she explained why she walked away from that opportunity and has &#8220;never looked back.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;I was originally asked to be on the original &#8216;View&#8217; with Barbara Walters and whoever else, and I turned it down,&#8221; Somers said.</p>
<p>&#8220;And everyone said, &#8216;Why would you turn that down? It is a national show,'&#8221; she added. &#8220;I said, &#8216;First of all, I have to live in New York. I don&#8217;t really wanna live in New York. I like the weather down here, and I like the vibe down here.'&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;But secondly, I don&#8217;t do well vying for time,&#8221; the actress continued. &#8220;And there, you gotta interrupt and butt in and butt out. It&#8217;s just not my personality.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;The View&#8221; has had a variety of co-hosts since it started. Walters was a host on the show for 17 years before she stepped down in 2014 while remaining as executive producer. In December 2022, she died at the age of 93.</p>

<p>O&#8217;Donnell, who sat at the table from 2006 to 2007, said in a video that she shared on both TikTok and Instagram that she did not want to risk breaking down and getting overly emotional in such a large group of people.</p>

<p>O&#8217;Donnell <a href="https://pagesix.com/2023/01/03/why-rosie-odonnell-skipped-barbara-walters-tribute/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">began the post</a> by touting Walters&#8217; career and life, saying, &#8220;Very sad to hear about Barbara Walters passing. Although, 93, man, who wouldn&#8217;t take that?&#8221;</p>
<p>The &#8220;League of Their Own&#8221; actress went on to detail some of Walters&#8217; accomplishments as a journalist before turning to their more personal connection.</p>
<p>&#8220;What a long and eventful legendary life she had,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I was lucky enough to be in her orbit for a good many years and we saw a lot of Broadway shows together … May she rest in peace and may everyone remember just what barriers she broke down for women. She really did. She was the first and will always be remembered.&#8221;</p>
<p>O&#8217;Donnell confirmed that she had been invited to participate in the tribute — which included a number of current and former hosts like Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Lisa Ling, Sherri Shepherd, and Meredith Vieira (who joined the show by phone because she was not feeling well).</p>
<p>And although her publicist had initially stated that she had been traveling and unable to change her plans, O&#8217;Donnell suggested that there may have been another reason she preferred not to attend the event.</p>
<p>&#8220;You know, I didn&#8217;t want to be in a big group of people, and I don&#8217;t know, I was worried I would get upset and didn&#8217;t want to do that, so, there you go,&#8221; O&#8217;Donnell said — and a number of friends and fans were quick to support her decision.</p>
<p>Actress and friend Debi Mazar <a href="https://people.com/tv/rosie-odonnell-reveals-missed-the-view-tribute-barbara-walters/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that she preferred the idea of grieving privately, commenting on O&#8217;Donnell&#8217;s Instagram post, &#8220;Mourning is personal &amp; PRIVATE A display for PR purposes is kind of vulgar, in my opinion. <p><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/barbara-walters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barbara Walters</a>, a journalist at ABC News who helped forge the way for women to appear on news broadcasts, has died. She was 93 years old.</p>
<p>ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/barbara-walters-trailblazing-tv-icon-dies-93/story?id=41435083&amp;cid=social_twitter_abcn" target="_blank" rel="noopener">broke the story</a> on her death, but provided no details or any statements from her family.</p>
<p>Walters joined ABC News in 1976, where she was the first woman to anchor a nightly news show, the network said. She later co-hosted &#8220;20/20&#8221; and launched &#8220;The View.&#8221;</p>
<p>Walters stepped down from co-hosting &#8220;The View&#8221; in 2014, saying at the time: &#8220;I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain. I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women &#8212; and OK, some men too &#8212; who will be taking my place.&#8221;</p>
<p>Walters, who was born in 1929, grew up around celebrities because her father worked in show business. This experience taught her valuable lessons that would later help her in her career.</p>
<p>&#8220;I would see them onstage looking one way and offstage often looking very different. I would hear my parents talk about them and know that even though those performers were very special people, they were also human beings with real-life problems,&#8221; Walters said decades ago. &#8220;I can have respect and admiration for famous people, but I have never had a sense of fear or awe.&#8221;</p>
<p>Disney CEO Robert Iger responded to Walters&#8217; death in a statement that praised her career.</p>
<p>&#8220;Barbara was a true legend, a pioneer not just for women in journalism but for journalism itself,&#8221; Iger said. &#8220;She was a one-of-a-kind reporter who landed many of the most important interviews of our time, from heads of state and leaders of regimes to the biggest celebrities and sports icons.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I had the pleasure of calling Barbara a colleague for more than three decades, but more importantly, I was able to call her a dear friend,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;She will be missed by all of us at The Walt Disney Company, and we send our deepest condolences to her daughter, Jacqueline.&#8221;</p>

<p>Hollywood star Brooke Shields called out journalist Barbara Walters for a question she asked the actress when she was just 15 years old in the early days of her career, saying it was inappropriate.</p>
<p>During the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/put-out-to-pasture-brooke-shields-says-shes-still-here-and-slams-the-industry-for-not-representing-women-over-40">57-year-old</a> actress&#8217; latest appearance on &#8220;The Drew Barrymore Show,&#8221; Shields told the host that she felt &#8220;taken advantage of&#8221; after the 1981 interview, <a href="https://pagesix.com/2022/11/21/brooke-shields-i-was-taken-advantage-of-in-barbara-walters-interview/">Page Six</a> reported.</p>
<p>&#8220;She [Walters] asked me what my measurements were and asked me to stand up,&#8221; recalled Shields. The Barrymore crowd audibly gasped in the background.</p>
<p>&#8220;And I stand up, and she was like comparing herself to this little girl,&#8221; she added. &#8220;And I thought, &#8216;This isn&#8217;t right. I don&#8217;t understand what this is.'&#8221;</p>

<p>Page Six included a clip of the 1981 interview showing Walters asking Shields about her measurements.</p>
<p>Looking a bit surprised, the aspiring model replied, &#8220;Um, I&#8217;m 5&#8217;10, 120.&#8221;</p>
<p>Walters explained that when most people saw Shields, they didn&#8217;t realize &#8220;how tall and slender&#8221; the model was.</p>
<p>Walters then made a comment to Brooke&#8217;s mother, Teri, asking whether it&#8217;s &#8220;very hard when you got a little kid this high to keep it down to size, isn&#8217;t it?&#8221;</p>
<p>Shields previously spoke out about the 1981 interview with Walters.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s practically criminal,&#8221; the actress explained during her appearance in 2021 on Dax Shepard&#8217;s podcast, &#8220;Armchair Expert.&#8221; &#8220;It’s not journalism.&#8221;</p>
<p>Shields also labeled the questions from Walters &#8220;maddening&#8221; as she grilled the teen on her personal life.</p>
<p>&#8220;Would you be a mother like your mother?&#8221; Walters asked Shields before asking Teri, &#8220;What about people who say, &#8216;She had no childhood’?&#8221;</p>
<p>The actress came to her mother&#8217;s defense.</p>
<p>&#8220;Do you have any secrets from your mother?&#8221; Walters continued as the model again defended her mom.</p>

<p>Pop singer Ricky Martin said he still suffers from PTSD from a 20-year-old interview he did with Barbara Walters in which she inquired about his sexuality.</p>
<p>Speaking to <a href="https://people.com/music/ricky-martin-wont-hide-anymore-man-with-no-secrets-pride-cover/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">People</a> to commemorate the month of June, what some people refer to as &#8220;Pride Month,&#8221; the &#8220;Livin&#8217; La Vida Loca&#8221; singer said he gets a fit of anxiety when he reflects upon the interview with Barbara Walters. Though Ricky Martin openly declared his sexuality in 2010, rumors swirled prior to his coming out.</p>
<p>&#8220;You could stop these rumors,&#8221; Walters said at the time. &#8220;You could say, &#8216;Yes I am gay or no I&#8217;m not.'&#8221;</p>
<p>Martin responded, &#8220;I just don’t feel like it.&#8221;</p>
<p>According to Martin, he was still questioning his sexual orientation and did not want it to become a public spectacle. He told People that he felt &#8220;violated&#8221; at the time.</p>
<p>&#8220;When she dropped the question, I felt violated because I was just not ready to come out. I was very afraid,&#8221; he said, getting very shaken up thinking about the moment 11 years later. &#8220;There’s a little PTSD with that.&#8221;</p>
<p>Martin did, however, admit that he would approach the interview differently if he were to go back in time, based on what he knows now about himself.</p>
<p>&#8220;A lot of people say, what would you do differently?&#8221; he told People. &#8220;Well, maybe I would have come out in that interview. It would&#8217;ve been great because when I came out, it just felt amazing. When it comes to my sexuality, when it comes to who I am, I want to talk about what I&#8217;m made of, about everything that I am. Because if you hide it, it&#8217;s a life-or-death situation.&#8221;</p>
<p>Martin expressed even more regret that he did not help youth struggling with their sexuality much sooner.</p>
<p>&#8220;There are many, many kids out there that don&#8217;t have someone to look up to. All they have around them is people telling them, &#8216;What you&#8217;re feeling is evil,'&#8221; he said. &#8220;But, you can&#8217;t force someone to come out. But if you have an egg and you open it from the outside, only death comes out. But if the egg opens up from the inside, life comes out.&#8221;</p>
<p>As noted by <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/ricky-martin-ptsd-barbara-walters-interview-come-out">Fox News</a>, Walters did eventually acknowledge the question was &#8220;inappropriate&#8221; after Martin came out in 2010.</p>
<p>&#8220;In 2000, I pushed Ricky Martin very hard to admit if he was gay or not, and the way he refused to do it made everyone decide that he was,&#8221; she told the Toronto Star. &#8220;A lot of people say that destroyed his career, and when I think back on it now I feel it was an inappropriate question.&#8221;</p>
<p>Ricky Martin proudly endorsed Joe Biden for president and even expressed dismay that President Trump garnered so much Latino support.</p>
<p>“I’ve been supporting Biden forever,” he said on the Variety iHeart podcast &#8220;The Big Ticket.&#8221; “I think he is the only option we have and he is great and he has been in politics all his life. This is the moment. We all need to get together and be loud about the course of this nation.”</p>

Ricky Martin Says He Has ‘A Little PTSD’ From 20-Year-Old Barbara Walters Interview

<p>Actor Corey Feldman has spent many years speaking out about the epidemic of Hollywood&#8217;s powerful elite using their influence to sexually abuse young actors trying to make it in show business.</p>
<p>In a clip from a 2013 episode of <em>The View </em>that&#8217;s re-emerging in light of the revelations concerning disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein&#8217;s alleged 30-year reign of sexual harassment and abuse, the 1980s child star can be seen telling the hosts what Hollywood is really like for young performers:</p>

<p>The clip begins as a defensive Feldman tells the hosts that, &#8220;There are people that were the people that did this to both me and Corey that are still working, they&#8217;re still out there, and that are some of the richest most powerful people in this business. And they do not want me saying what I am saying right now.&#8221;</p>
<p>What he is saying, or at least trying to explain, to Barbara Walters is that he and his best friend Corey Haim, another famous &#8217;80s child star, were both sexually abused by powerful men in Hollywood. Feldman believes that the abuse was a factor in Haim&#8217;s drug addiction and untimely death in 2010.</p>
<p>But Walters didn&#8217;t seem to want to hear it. She responds, &#8220;Are you saying they are pedophiles and that they are still in this business?&#8221; to which Feldman nods and says, &#8220;Yes.&#8221;</p>
<p>Feldman adds, &#8220;They don&#8217;t want me here right now. They want me dead.&#8221;</p>
<p>Walters huffs that statement off as exaggeration, turning away from Feldman to her co-host and anti-vaxxer Jenny McCarthy.</p>
<p>After Feldman advises parents who want to put their children in show business to not go into it with naivety, Walters, with clear disdain in her voice, cuts him off by saying, &#8220;You&#8217;re damaging an entire industry!&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;Did she deserve this award?&#8221; asked Dr. Drew, speaking of Jenner receiving the coveted ESPN Arthur Ashe Courage Award.</p>
<p>&#8220;For what? Self-definition is what you do. I wasn&#8217;t aware you get a medal for it,&#8221; answered Shapiro directly.</p>
<p>The quick clip is obviously intended to paint Shapiro as an intolerant bigot for not, as he calls it, &#8220;mainstreaming delusion.&#8221; Shapiro has been outspoken in his belief that we should focus our attention on finding &#8220;cures and actual solutions&#8221; to the unfortunate mental disorder as opposed to celebrating the illness, which he has viewed as cruel.</p>
<p>Ironically, the short clip of the successful conservative intended to castigate him as intolerant was cut from an interview where Shapiro himself was victimized, threatened and physically grabbed by Zoey Tur, a transgender activist who was also a panelist. While Tur physically threatened Shapiro, the rest of the guests echoed the cries of intolerance concerning, stunningly, the victim of the threat. Following the show, Shapiro was again threatened via Twitter by Tur when the transgender activist wrote that he wanted to &#8220;curb-stomp&#8221; Shapiro. So much for &#8220;tolerance.&#8221;</p>
<p>But, of course, the victimization of Shapiro did not find its way into ABC&#8217;s promotional video.</p>

<p>If you thought there could never be an unpleasant image of the stunning Bradley Cooper, think again. Barbra Walters, 86, just told Cooper, 40, that he&#8217;s &#8220;screwable.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I could just sit and stare at you but that would take too much time,&#8221; Walters said to Cooper during her &#8220;10 Most Fascinating People of 2015&#8221; interview according to <em><a href="http://www.people.com/article/barbara-walters-flirts-bradley-cooper-most-fascinating-people-special">People</a></em>. &#8220;But I, I find you very screwable.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;Thank you,&#8221; Cooper responded simply, seemingly uncomfortable. &#8220;I think that I&#8217;ve grown to stop thinking about it. &#8230; But sometimes I feel better than others. Yeah, I think it has a lot to do with feeling comfortable with yourself. And I know that I&#8217;m more comfortable with myself than I&#8217;ve ever been in my life, so maybe that makes me more attractive.&#8221;</p>
<p>The 86-year-old then continued the persistent and bizarre behavior by adding, &#8220;I think you&#8217;re handsome, I think you&#8217;re sexy.&#8221;</p>
<p>Walters&#8217; flirtation with Cooper is frankly, a bit nauseating, and plenty wasteful. There is no way in hell the 2011 &#8220;<a href="http://www.people.com/people/package/article/0,,20315920_20545580,00.html">Sexiest Man Alive</a>&#8221; recipient would never follow-up on the flirtation.</p>
