Republicans appear to support a bipartisan bill led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), but the legislation remains stalled amid reported concerns that giving the Democratic socialist a legislative victory could fuel her presidential ambitions.  
<a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/1837/text">The DEFIANCE Act</a> (Disrupt Explicit Forged Images And Non-Consensual Edits Act) would create a federal civil cause of action allowing victims of non-consensual sexually explicit deepfakes to sue those who create or distribute fake nude or sexual images without their consent. 
Under the bill, victims could recover up to $250,000 in damages in cases involving sexual assault, stalking, or harassment, earning support from leftists, conservative Republicans, and Hollywood figures such as Paris Hilton.
AOC first introduced the legislation last year. In January, the U.S. Senate passed it unanimously.
“I want to thank the Senate cosponsors of this legislation, including my Republican co-lead, Senator Lindsey Graham,” Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) <a href="https://www.durbin.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/durbin-successfully-passes-bill-to-combat-nonconsensual-sexually-explicit-deepfake-images">said</a> at the time. “Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez herself is a publicly confessed victim of explicit deepfakes. I commend her for working to create tools for victims in the fight against this despicable crime.” 
Despite bipartisan support, the bill remains stalled in the Republican-led House. <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2026/07/23/paris-hilton-and-the-politics-of-defiance-01009283?nname=playbook&amp;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&amp;nrid=5c65d8fa-b7c7-44e5-98d0-43e6086e71cd">Politico reported</a> Thursday that some Republicans worry passing AOC&#8217;s legislation could hand the New York congresswoman a political victory as she emerges as a potential 2028 presidential contender. 
“It’s a shame that this bill isn’t law because they are unwilling to give AOC a win,” one person working on the bill told the outlet. “When you look at it, everything is aligned for it to pass, except that they don’t want her to have this.”
“We’re depriving many, many people of the ability to set their lives right just to prevent one member of Congress from being able to pass a bill,” another person said, according to Politico. 
Ocasio-Cortez has blamed the delay on House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH). Earlier this month,<a href="https://x.com/EricMGarcia/status/2077191769477791989?s=20"> she told The Independent</a> that the bill passed the Senate unanimously with Republican support, adding that people should &#8220;ask Jim Jordan&#8221; why it has yet to advance.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told reporters Tuesday that he supports the legislation but was unsure of its status in committee, according to Politico. 
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed the bipartisan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-melania-backed-bill-to-fight-deepfake-revenge-porn">TAKE IT DOWN Act</a>, championed by first lady Melania Trump, into law. The measure criminalizes the non-consensual online distribution of intimate images, including AI-generated deepfakes.

A new New Hampshire primary poll points to an early shake-up in the 2028 presidential race, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) leading the Democratic field while Secretary of State Marco Rubio gains ground on Vice President JD Vance among Republicans.
<a href="https://scholars.unh.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1982&amp;amp;context=survey_center_polls">The Granite State Poll,</a> conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, shows the Democratic socialist leading the hypothetical Democratic field with 22% support, narrowly ahead of former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 21%. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) placed third with 9%. 
Notably, the quarterly survey showed support slipping sharply for several other potential Democratic contenders, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris. Newsom&#8217;s support in the Granite State fell from 15% in February to just 8% in July. Harris, the failed 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, also saw her support cut in half, falling from 10% in February to 5% in July. 
“Nearly half of socialists and one-third of progressives support Ocasio-Cortez, while pluralities of liberals and moderates support Buttigieg,” the polling report said.

New Hampshire remains one of the nation&#8217;s most closely watched political battlegrounds, with its early primary serving as a crucial measure of presidential candidates&#8217; viability on the national stage. 
On the Republican side, the poll showed support for Vice President Vance slipping significantly. About 36% of likely GOP primary voters backed Vance, down sharply from 53% in February. Rubio appeared to capitalize on the shift, more than tripling his support from 7% to 26%.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley tied for third place at 8%. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis finished fifth with 6%, followed by former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard with 4%. 
Despite his decline, Vance enjoyed the highest favorability rating among New Hampshire Republican primary voters. The survey found GOP voters overwhelmingly want the party&#8217;s next nominee to build on President Donald Trump&#8217;s agenda, while only 28% said they preferred a candidate who would take the party in a different direction.
Neither Vance nor Rubio has publicly announced a presidential campaign. Still, Trump&#8217;s endorsement could prove decisive. More than 40% of Republican primary voters surveyed said his backing would significantly influence their vote.

The latest uproar erupted after the Bronx leftist took to social media to blast the pending National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). AOC claimed a specific provision in the defense package was an &#8220;existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy&#8221; that would &#8220;merge parts of our military with the IDF.&#8221;
It didn&#8217;t take long for the pushback to come crashing down.
Critics, lawmakers, and legal experts quickly tore apart the congresswoman’s alarmist claims, pointing out that Section 219 of the bill simply formalizes routine research, development, and technology-sharing between the United States and Israel. The provision involves zero military command mergers, creates no joint operational units, and transfers no American troops under foreign control. Instead, it expands administrative coordination on defensive tech like artificial intelligence, missile defense, and counter-drone systems — all cooperative practices the United States routinely maintains with key allies.
EPA Chief Lee Zeldin tore into the New York Democrat, suggesting she focus less on hostility toward Israel and more on basic reading comprehension and critical thinking.

With that all-powerful Congress elected by illegals and felons, the DSA plans to save America by destroying America. Or as one DSA member put it — and again, I’m quoting: “The most important thing we can do is take America down from within.”
Now, I have to tell you, I found this socialist program so uplifting, I was inspired to write a campaign song that any Democrat party candidate from the DSA can use free of charge.

For instance, the New York Times, a former newspaper, recently ran an article with the headline, “Bad Trump Ruins Everything,” in which columnist Nicholas Kristof speculated that the primary defeat of anti-Israel congressman Thomas Massie may have been due to an attack by Israeli rape dogs, imaginary animals whom Kristof claims have been trained to sexually assault antisemites. Kristof’s article was about to go on to examine the power of Trump’s endorsements, when he suddenly emitted a high-pitched scream, after which the article fell ominously silent.
In another Times article, this one headlined, “Trump Bad, Everything Ruined,” the author speculated that Trump’s endorsement of Ken Paxton for Senate may turn deep red Texas into a blue state, if Republicans are unable to vote because they’re too busy laughing at this article. A third Times article, headlined, “Trump Trump Trump Bad Bad Bad Ruin Ruin Ruin,” merely contained those words repeated at random for several pages.
Now, of course, it’s always important to hear what the left-wing media is saying. In the same sense, it’s always important to hit yourself in the groin with a hammer. But for a change of pace, we here at the Daily Wire have decided to take a closer look at candidates on the Democrat side, because we’ve just come from watching the monkeys at the zoo throwing dung at random passersby, and we want the fun to continue.
In Texas, the Democrat Senate candidate is James Talarico, a Christian theologian who argues that the role of the Virgin Mary in giving birth to Jesus proves that God is in favor of crushing the heads of unborn children, then tearing their bodies apart limb from limb. A spokeswoman for the Queen of Heaven says that the Virgin Mary will not be responding to Talarico’s comments because she can’t use the words that would properly convey her opinions, because she’s the Virgin Mary.
Socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez not only won her primary but is jockeying to position herself as a 2028 presidential candidate. AOC, who studied economics at Sister Ignoramuses School for Wayward Girls, explains her socialist economic theory this way:

Then, just as we’re about to share it out equally, Elon Musk suddenly rushes in and steals so much of it, there’s not even enough left for me to pay off my psychiatrist with taxpayer dollars. This is why I’ve said repeatedly that Elon Musk is stupid, because if I could see a psychiatrist, I wouldn’t be talking like this.”

Unfortunately, Elon Musk was unable to respond to being called stupid because he’d just flown to Mars in his new electric space-car, but had not yet installed the final communications satellite link that would allow him to call Earth from the offices of the new terraforming company he’s built on the Red Planet. AOC reacted to this by saying, “Now you see what I mean. If Elon Musk is so smart, how come his crappy Mars phone doesn’t work?”
Another possible Democrat presidential candidate is California Governor Gavin Newsom, who lists his achievements as: causing the weather to be consistently good in Santa Barbara, looking very concerned as Los Angeles burned to the ground, and receiving a hundred billion dollars for Medicare and a high-speed train, both of which he plans to provide as soon as he finds out what happened to the hundred billion dollars. Newsom says he also proved himself a great leader during the Chinese Flu pandemic, because he never let himself despair like some of those idiots who stayed home all the time wearing useless masks.
In Maine, Democrats are running Graham Platner for Senate. Platner sports a Totenkopf, or death’s head tattoo, favored by Nazi SS officers. But in his memoir, entitled Maine Kampf, Platner explains that the tattoo does not mean he sympathizes with Nazis, but simply refers to his wish to slaughter every Jew on earth and then take over Europe. Platner does admit that, if his plans are carried out, he’s sort of going to miss those hot rape dogs.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) should not just be considered a potential candidate for the Democratic Party’s 2028 presidential nomination; she is President Donald Trump’s single most likely successor.
On Monday, a new AtlasIntel <a href="https://www.atlasintel.org/poll/usa-national-2026-05-11">survey</a> suggested Ocasio-Cortez is in the pole position for the rapidly approaching Democratic primary contest. With the support of 26%, the 36-year-old congresswoman came in ahead of Biden administration alum Pete Buttigieg at 22.4%, California Governor Gavin Newsom at 21.2%, and former Vice President Kamala Harris at 12.9%. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro rounded out the top seven as also-rans.
No one should be surprised. Ocasio-Cortez is not only the face of an ascendant progressive movement but also the most impressive political talent in a party starved of them.
Take her performance at an event hosted by the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics last Friday as an example of what makes her such a potent messenger. After being asked whether she might mount a campaign for the White House or other side of the Capitol two years from now, Ocasio-Cortez replied that her objective was not to obtain “a title or a seat.”
“My ambition is way bigger than that. My ambition is to change this country. Presidents come and go. Senate, House seats, elected officials come and go,” she continued. “When you haven’t been, like, fantasizing about being this or that since the time you were seven years old, it is tremendously liberating, because I get to wake up every day and say, ‘How am I gonna meet the moment?’” The clip of the exchange went viral, not because it was brilliant, per se, but because it was a thoughtful, sincere answer to a familiar question that tends to elicit rote non-answers, if not outright lies.
It was another, less heralded answer that more fully exemplified her virtues as a candidate, though. After being asked about her criticism of “legitimate white supremacist sympathizers” in the House of Representatives and her relationship with conservative lawmakers like Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), Ocasio-Cortez expressed her willingness to work across the aisle in pursuit of results before pivoting.
“Now, there are certain places where, certain areas where I don’t think that we should ignore some folks’ record on some of these issues, right? It’s about where we trust intent, where we trust where those outcomes are going,” she said. “I personally do not trust someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene, a proven bigot and antisemite, on the issues of what is good for Gazans and Israelis. I don’t! I don’t think that it benefits our movement, in that instance, to align the left with white nationalists. I don’t think it serves us.”
Her moral clarity hit like a breath of fresh air after months trapped in a coal mine. Recent months have seen Greene enjoy a particularly cynical second act as an anti-Trump darling. By day, Greene enjoys the strange new respect of CNN during fawning softball interviews. By night, she’s fundraising for the loathsome Thomas Massie by railing against “Jewish billionaires.” And everyone looks the other way, because it’s convenient and because in the October 7 era, antisemitism is no longer a disqualifying attribute on the American left.
But Ocasio-Cortez — no friend of Israel’s, by the way — went out of her way to identify Greene as the malevolent actor she is and offer an implicit rebuke of her fellow progressives for admitting her into the Resistance. This backdoor Sister Souljah moment was not just admirable; it demonstrated her instinctive understanding of what Americans want and her ability to deliver it.
While her competition bends over backward to pander, Ocasio-Cortez is free to say what she actually thinks because she’s already built her entire brand on authenticity. Kamala Harris presented as a tough-on-crime cop before she ran for president on one of the most radical platforms in American history. Gavin Newsom has already rolled out 2.0 and 3.0 versions of himself since Trump took his second oath of office, first attempting to make nice with the Right in the early months of 2025 before later turning into a terminally online troll on X, formerly known as Twitter. Mayor Pete’s rural rebrand, meanwhile, won’t cancel out his McKinsey accent, which will continue to set off the country’s collective BS detector no matter how much facial hair he grows.
Ocasio-Cortez, for all her disastrous ideas and ignorance, knows who she is and what she believes — and doesn’t pretend to be or believe anything else. If the Trump era has proven anything, it is that self-assurance is the ultimate political superpower.
This extends to the general election as well as the primary. Republicans who have convinced themselves that Ocasio-Cortez is simply too radical or too green to succeed nationally should think again. The current president’s aspirations were a national punchline until the moment the Javits Center collapsed on Hillary Clinton’s campaign right about the moment she expected to break through its ceiling. Through sheer will and star power, Trump muddled through. And what’s more is that he’s obliquely acknowledged that he sees some of himself in Ocasio-Cortez.
“She’s got a spark that’s pretty amazing, actually,” he declared in 2024.
Game recognize game.
Moreover, the deck will in all likelihood be stacked against Republicans in 2028, regardless of whether Trump can turn his approval ratings around between now and then. Americans tend to tire of incumbents, and Trump’s domination of a more-than-decade-long news cycle is sure to inspire a backlash that Ocasio-Cortez is uniquely suited to capitalize on.
Newsom’s never-ending PR offensive has stolen more headlines. Harris has more name recognition. And Buttigieg will always enjoy the swooning of the Democrats’ privileged, white professional class. But look closer, and it’s Ocasio-Cortez — with her <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ1huTSxvZo&amp;t=32">rock star-like tour</a> last year, anchored principles, and undeniable savvy — who is laying the groundwork for a campaign that smart money would bet on succeeding, and changing the country forever if it does.

A new poll shows Secretary of State Marco Rubio leading a hypothetical 2028 Republican presidential primary to succeed President Donald Trump.
The survey, <a href="///Users/jacobwheeler/Downloads/Atlas%20Poll%20USA%20-%2005.07.2026%20-%20Google%20Slides.pdf">conducted by AtlasIntel</a> between May 4-7 among 2,069 American adults, found Rubio with 45.4% support, followed by Vice President JD Vance at 29.6%. 
The rest of the field trailed significantly.

The AtlasIntel poll is the first to show Rubio ahead, while broader polling still favors Vance.<a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/president/republican-primary/2028/national"> RealClearPolitics</a>, a media company that aggregates national polling, shows the vice president holding a 20-point advantage over other potential candidates.
Rubio and Vance are widely seen as the most serious contenders to succeed Trump and shape the future of the MAGA movement.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-takes-a-spontaneous-2028-presidential-straw-poll-vance-or-rubio">Trump addressed the elephant in the room</a> at the White House on Monday, polling a crowd on whether they would prefer Vance or Rubio to run for president in 2028. 
“I don’t know. Who’s it going to be? Is it going to be JD? Is there going to be somebody else? I don’t know,” Trump told a group of law enforcement officials.
The kingmaker of GOP politics then asked the crowd who they thought should succeed him. 
“Who likes JD Vance? Who likes Marco Rubio? All right. Sounds like a good ticket,” Trump joked.
Applause from those in attendance appeared stronger for Vance, but Trump said he was not yet making any endorsements.
“By the way, I do believe that’s a dream team. But these are minor details. That does not mean you have my endorsement under any circumstance. But you know … I think it sounds like presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate,” Trump said. 
Rubio said last year that he would support Vance if the vice president decided to run for president. 
“If JD Vance runs for president, he’s going to be our nominee, and I’ll be one of the first people to support him,” Rubio <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/news/story/trump-susie-wiles-interview-exclusive-part-2?_sp=66ff928d-0547-4be8-9f21-3d5c5d7322ce.1773164665694">told</a> Vanity Fair in an interview. 
On the Democratic side, the field appears more divided and open-ended, with a democratic socialist leading the pack.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is many things: a radical progressive, a viable presidential candidate, a former bartender, and apparently, America’s foremost revisionist historian. Last week she graced the country with a bombshell revelation, informing us all that it was black Americans who created democracy:
<blockquote>I think about the Civil Rights and voting rights movement, and how black Americans really created democracy in this country… black Americans created democracy. They built something from nothing. </blockquote>
I had no idea. I was under the naive impression that it was the ancient Greeks and our Founding Fathers who conjured such a thing, but clearly I was the last to know. Even the podcast host, whom she was enlightening, nodded along in vigorous agreement: “Yes, YES.” Where have I been all these years?
There you have it, folks. The 1619 Project rides again. History has been rewritten, you’ve been lied to your entire life, and James Madison was apparently mixed. Unless, of course, AOC hit her head falling out of a coconut tree and is simply, resoundingly, and spectacularly wrong.
Let’s take a stroll down history lane.
Democracy literally comes from the ancient Greek word dēmokratia: “rule by the people,&#8221; from dēmos meaning &#8220;the people&#8221; or &#8220;citizen-body,&#8221; and kratos for &#8220;power&#8221; or &#8220;rule.” <a href="https://www.abrahamlincolnonline.org/lincoln/speeches/gettysburg.htm">By the people, for the people</a>. Sound familiar? It describes a system in which citizens hold the power to make decisions, either directly or through their elected representatives. 
In 508-507 BC, the true “Father of Democracy,” Cleisthenes, shifted power away from hereditary elites and toward the demos. He reorganized citizens into tribes based on residence rather than bloodline, introduced equality under the law, and reformed governance through popular voting. Long after his death, the historian Thucydides praised the system: “Its administration favors the many instead of the few; this is why it is called a democracy.”
Credit for the creation of democracy goes to white, ancient Greek aristocrats. My apologies, Congresswoman.
If AOC means American democracy specifically, she’s no less mistaken. American democracy wasn’t “built from nothing” by any single group or era. It was deliberately engineered as a constitutional republic with robust democratic features during the late 18th century. Drawing on ancient Athens and Rome, English common law, and Enlightenment thinkers including John Locke, Montesquieu, and Blackstone, our Founders designed a republic specifically intended to avoid the pitfalls of pure direct democracy. As Madison argued in <a href="https://billofrightsinstitute.org/primary-sources/federalist-no-10/">Federalist No. 10</a>, this often resulted in mob rule and instability.
In its place, they built representative government, separation of powers, checks and balances, and federalism, all to protect individual liberty.
This architecture did not spring up overnight. In 1620, the Mayflower Compact established a framework in which settlers agreed to &#8220;combine ourselves together into a civil body politic&#8221; and make &#8220;just and equal laws&#8221; by majority consent, planting the seed of consensual self-governance on American soil. Over a century later, on July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence proclaimed that “all men are created equal,” endowed with unalienable rights from God, not government, and that we have the right to rule ourselves. This culmination came at what historians have rightly called the <a href="https://www.constitutionfacts.com/us-constitution-amendments/the-constitutional-convention/">“Miracle at Philadelphia,”</a> where 55 delegates, including Madison and Washington, met in secret at the Pennsylvania State House and hammered out the most consequential governing document in human history. Popular sovereignty, elected representatives, separation of powers, checks and balances, and federalism all took final form under the tutelage of the evil, non-pigmented caucasian.
Just as it would be inaccurate to say women alone created American democracy, it is equally inaccurate to say black Americans did because it is simply not true. Unless Washington and the Founders were applying considerably more face powder than the portraits suggest.
I was reminded of all this just last night at an Independent Women’s event, where extraordinary women gathered to celebrate and defend exactly this history. That’s the spirit we need more of: women, Americans of all backgrounds, who know what this country is built on and aren’t afraid to say so. We should be teaching this, not erasing it.
To be uncharacteristically charitable to AOC, one could argue that she means that black Americans, through the crucible of slavery, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, and the Civil Rights Movement, helped make the promise of democracy real rather than merely rhetorical. Indeed, black Americans&#8217; contributions to expanding rights were immense and undeniable, but &#8220;expanding and perfecting democracy&#8221; is a very different claim from &#8220;creating it from nothing,&#8221; and conflating the two isn&#8217;t empowerment, it’s historical erasure. This revisionist framing flattens a complex, centuries-long story into a single-group morality tale, where one group’s activism gets sole credit for everything good.
Meanwhile, that very democracy she claims was created by black Americans is being thwarted by her and her fellow Democrats in Washington, D.C. Barack Obama wants to strip away the voting rights of Republicans of all color, and they’ve promised that when they regain power, they will pack the Supreme Court, enable mass mail-in-ballots, throw away voter ID, and nuke the filibuster to add four more blue senate seats. 
These are not the actions of people who revere democratic institutions. They’re the actions of people who revere power.
The danger of letting the Left rewrite history and promote fallacious ideas is not abstract. When young people and useful idiots are taught a distorted version of the past by a backward education system and p(regressive) leadership, they have no framework to defend what is true. That’s been the design. Gutting civics and history education was not an accident; it was a strategy.
Our Founders studied history with rigor, absorbed its lessons, and built something incredible and new: a durable, liberty-focused republic that has endured for nearly 250 years. Its genius lay not in perfection but in self-correction through elections, courts, and amendments, not reinvention.
Don’t fall for the lies: communism has failed everywhere it has been tried, Capitalism harnesses human self-interest to drive innovation, growth, and prosperity like no other, and our constitutional republic is a miraculous achievement, conceived by a very pale founding bunch and hardened over generations by Americans of different color and circumstance, bound under one creed.
That’s not an uncomfortable fact; that’s a beautiful one, and as we approach our 250th birthday, it is one worth defending clearly and without apology.
So thank you, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for yet another opportunity to do exactly that.

At the center of the controversy are four payments made in 2025 to Dr. Brian Boyle totaling $18,725. According to FEC records, the Ocasio-Cortez campaign documented these expenses as “leadership training and consulting.”
In its complaint, the NLPC argues that this characterization is fraudulent. The group notes that Boyle serves as chief psychiatric officer at Stella, a chain of clinics known for &#8220;novel&#8221; and &#8220;unorthodox&#8221; therapies — including ketamine and stellate ganglion blocks — that are popular among celebrities and the ultra-wealthy.

“There is reason to believe that AOC’s use of campaign funds to pay for a psychiatrist who has no experience in ‘leadership training’ was not for a ‘bona fide campaign or political purpose,’ but rather for personal psychiatric therapy,” wrote NLPC counsel Paul Kamenar in the complaint.
Federal law prohibits the use of campaign funds for personal expenses, and violations can result in fines and other penalties, and potentially up to five years in prison.
Dr. Boyle, a Harvard-trained &#8220;interventional psychiatrist,&#8221; is considered a leading authority on ketamine, a dissociative drug that has <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/21/us-news/aoc-spends-more-than-18k-on-psychiatrist-known-for-ketamine-therapy/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=nypost">gained notoriety</a> recently following the death of actor Matthew Perry. While Ocasio-Cortez has been a vocal advocate for the medical use of psychedelics and has successfully sponsored legislation to study their benefits for PTSD and depression, critics argue she must use her own money for personal treatment.

Ocasio-Cortez has been open about her mental health in the past, noting she entered therapy following the &#8220;<a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/all-out-attempted-coup-aoc-says-capitol-attack-has-deeply-n1268031">extraordinarily traumatizing</a>&#8221; events of the January 6 Capitol breach.

The NLPC has requested that the OCC refer the matter to the House Ethics Committee, which possesses the power to issue subpoenas and impose disciplinary sanctions.
As of press time, Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign has not responded to requests for comment regarding the nature of the sessions or who participated in them.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten is not impressed with the Democratic bench going into the 2028 presidential election cycle — and he&#8217;s not holding back his overall assessment of the likely candidates: &#8220;a total clown car.&#8221;
Enten joined CNN anchor John Berman on Tuesday to discuss the likely candidates just as a new memoir from Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) — considered a heavy favorite to jump in the race — hit shelves, and his take was that Newsom was &#8220;flailing.&#8221;

Enten&#8217;s concern, as he broke down the numbers for Berman, was that there was no clear leader in the Democratic Party — and no one seemed poise for the kind of surge that would be necessary to push them to the front of the pack going into the 2028 primaries.
&#8220;Yeah, they’re all running and this is just a downright clown car at this point on the Democratic side,&#8221; Enten said, noting that the early polls showed Newsom (at 19%) just barely in the lead over former Vice President Kamala Harris (at 18%) and that his advantage was slim enough to be within the margin of error.
&#8220;Quite a weak number for [Harris], given that, of course, she was the nominee last time around,&#8221; Enten noted.
He went on to say that other likely contenders — such as former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who polled at 13% and 12%, respectively — were not doing any better.
&#8220;This is just a total clown car. It is a total mess. There is no clear frontrunner at this particular point on the Democratic side. Who the heck knows who the nominee is going to be in two years?&#8221; Enten added. &#8220;It was been a long time, this is very unusual for the Democratic side to not have a clear frontrunner at this point. You have to go all the way back, all the way back from when I wasn’t even in elementary school yet, not even in pre-K yet, to 1992, that was the last cycle in which there was no clear frontrunner at this point. Very unusual.&#8221;
The analyst then singled out Newsom, saying that in particular, he appeared to be losing ground — and popularity — even as he moves to market his memoir.
&#8220;It seems to me that Gavin Newsom is flailing a little bit, at least compared to where he was prior,” he said, explaining that betting markets were cooling off as far as Newsom was concerned. &#8220;Three months ago, according to the prediction market, look at that, it was a 37% chance, now it’s just at 28%. Down he goes. He’s definitely flailing a little bit.&#8221;
