A man wearing a Palestinian pin was shot in Newton, Massachusetts Thursday evening after he charged across a street and tackled a pro-Israel veteran protester.
In a video shared with The Daily Wire, the man with the pin, sporting a surgical mask around his neck, stood across the street shouting at the group of 10 protesters, calling them “sick” and accusing them of “defending genocide.”

Scott Hayes, 47, of Framingham, Mass., was getting ready to leave when the assailant began yelling at the group, showing his middle finger and shouting at the protesters.
In the next video, the man charges across the street through traffic and tackles Hayes, an Iraq War veteran, who was carrying an American flag during the protest. Seconds later, the gun was discharged and the man was shot in the stomach during their tussle on the ground, another video angle shows. 
Hayes then places the gun on the sidewalk behind him as bystanders try to break the two apart. After the altercation, Hayes told bystanders to call 911, and tended to wounds of the man who tackled him, a video shared with The Daily Wire shows.

Hayes is being <a href="https://www.wcvb.com/article/man-shot-newton-massachusetts-pro-israel-demonstration/62180049">charged</a> with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and violation of a constitutional right causing injury, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said. Ryan said the veteran had full legal possession of the gun, <a href="https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/police-investigating-crime-scene-newton-street-corner/SMXRAVJRUBGJFHFBNFZTMRX6SA/?taid=66e3a66c4c4e2900018428c5&amp;utm_campaign=trueAnthem_manual&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;utm_source=twitter">according</a> to Boston 25 News. The veteran’s fellow protesters say they were not aware he had a gun, but believe he was acting in self defense.
The man shot reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries.
Hayes was with a group of pro-Israel individuals hold American, Israeli, and Pahlavi Iranian flags in various parts of Massachusetts to raise awareness about the hostages and the troubles of the Iranian regime. Newton, a suburb of Boston and considered one of the most Jewish cities in the United States, with Jews comprising between 20-30% of the population, <a href="https://forward.com/news/409196/a-very-jewish-town-feuds-over-israel-like-only-jews-can/">according to Forward</a>.
Aidin, a pro-Israel Iranian who runs the From Boston to Iran group and was present at the altercation, told The Daily Wire that he was not sure how the gun was discharged. 
“I saw him bring his hand up to the veteran and I tried to go closer until I heard the shot fired.”
“We’ve been to standouts like this often and nothing like this has ever happened,” he said, declining to give his last name. “I was shocked when the man ran across the street and had no idea why he would do that.”
Aidin said he was not sure why the man charged Hayes instead of the other members of the group. He also said the person shot was in stable condition.
The Newton Police, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment, said they will increase police patrols around houses of worship following the incident.

The head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), who publicly praised Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, outlined a plan to help elect 40-50 members to Congress in a sermon last month, <a href="https://www.memri.org/tv/cair-exec-director-nihad-awad-working-eliminate-change-public-school-textbooks-defame-islam-prophet">MEMRI reported</a>.
CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said his vision is the “next phase” in dedicating “professional resources to inform the public systematically about this faith,” adding that he recommends a “scientific approach.”
“If we commit to do this, four years from now, the Muslim community will have 4,000 new journalists, we will have 4,000 filmmakers, 4,000 lawyers, 4,000 students of political science, 4,000 students of history,” he said.
In 15 years, Awad said the numbers will continue to grow, creating “an army” of 50,000 in such fields, many of whom will “most likely” run for office.
“We can have in ten years, at least 40-50 members of Congress — in the U.S. Congress,” he said.
In the August 30th sermon at the East Plano Islamic Center in Texas, Awad said CAIR has been fighting to eliminate Islamophobia that is “deeply rooted” in American culture, academia, and Hollywood. “For hundreds of years, Islam has been denigrated, the Prophet has been smeared and defamed in books and textbooks that were taught in public schools, that Allah be praised, we have been working to eliminate and change,” Awad said in the sermon live-streamed on YouTube.
Awad said it&#8217;s time for the Muslim community — which he called affluent, vibrant, educated, and well-to-do — to move to the next phase.
While CAIR, founded in 1994, positions itself as the top American Muslim civil rights organization, it has a troubling record that led the Biden administration to distance itself in the fallout of Hamas’ brutal massacre, rape, and kidnapping of Israeli civilians on October 7.
The White House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/white-house-scrambles-to-distance-itself-from-cair-after-shocking-anti-semitic-statements">distanced itself</a> from CAIR in December after Awad said he was “happy to see” Gazans “breaking the siege and throwing down the shackles of their own land” on October 7, the day Hamas massacred over a thousand Israeli civilians. He added that Israel does not have the right to self-defense.
The White House condemned Awad’s remarks and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/08/us/politics/white-house-cair-nihad-awad.html">removed</a> CAIR as a partner from a White House fact sheet for its National Strategy to Counter Anti-Semitism.
On October 7, as Hamas was actively ravaging communities in southern Israel, CAIR’s official <a href="https://x.com/CAIRNational/status/1710758201358966893">account tweeted</a> its “support for the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and calling for an end to the Israeli occupation.” 
The tweet went on to blame Israel for Hamas’ attack, claiming the Jewish state “sparks the deadly violence that we see again and again, including today.”
It concluded its thread by calling on the United States, and Arab and Muslim governments to “exert maximum pressure on the Israeli government” to “respect Palestinian human rights and end the occupation,” despite the attackers coming from Gaza which Israel withdrew from in 2005.
Awad and other CAIR leaders are known for making similar anti-Semitic remarks, according to the <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounder/council-american-islamic-relations-cair">Anti-Defamation League</a>.
Awad has labeled Zionist organizations “enemies of the Muslim community,” claimed they “make up the core of the Islamophobia network in the United States,” and accused pro-Israel groups of having “corrupted” the U.S. government.
Following an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, Awad shared an article about the Secret Service receiving intel on Iranian threats against Trump, speculating whether it was an “Israeli plot to ignite another war between the U.S. and other countries in the Middle East at its behest.”
In July, a man with close ties to Iran was arrested for attempting to hire hitmen to assassinate high-profile politicians, with former President Donald Trump’s name being floated as one of the targets, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admin-refused-to-grant-nikki-haley-secret-service-protection-despite-iranian-threats">according to government records</a>.
CAIR’s San Francisco Bay Area Executive Director, Zahra Billoo, once declared that “Zionists” are “your enemies,” warning followers to “pay attention” to “Zionist synagogues,” Hillels, and Jewish federations. Following the October 7 attack, Billoo further claimed the violence was the world “witnessing decolonization.”
Hussam Ayloush, CEO and Executive Director of CAIR Greater Los Angeles Area also has an anti-Israel history, including stating Israel does not have a right to defend itself, and <a href="https://www.memri.org/reports/cair-la-director-hussam-ayloush-november-2023-islamic-society-orange-county-event-israel">asserting</a> that “Israel should be attacked.”
Similarly, on October 7 and 9, Zainab Chaudry, Director of Maryland Outreach, CAIR Maryland <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounder/council-american-islamic-relations-cair">referred</a> to the Hamas attack as an “uprising” against “colonizers” and called Hamas terrorists “Palestinian freedom fighters.” In November, Abdullah Jaber, Executive Director, CAIR Florida, stated that Israeli Jews are not followers of “Abraham, Moses, or Jesus.”
During Awad’s sermon, he also said that the anti-Israel “uncommitted movement” had “changed the tone” of Vice President Kamala Harris on Israel through uncommitted delegates pressuring Democratic leaders during the Democratic National Convention.

In late June 2024, around 40 Iranian-Germans protested against Hossein Mousavian and his relations with the Körber Foundation in Hamburg. This think tank, founded by Kurt A. Körber, a member of the Nazi party who worked for Universelle-Werke J. C. Müller &amp; Co. and advanced Hitler’s war goals, had hosted Mousavian at a May breakfast event, but after a tide of criticism, the think tank deleted its X post. Körber embedded four photographs of people at the breakfast, including pictures from Mousavian. 
The Munich Security Conference and the Körber-Stiftung selected 7 people who work for the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry as international participants to be their Munich Young Leaders fellowship in recent years.
What do these protesters have against Mousavian, a “Middle East specialist” at Princeton University? He can be followed in four cases: the consolidation of the ideology of terror, the supervisor of a terror project (24 killed) in Europe in the ’90s, the agent of the regime’s normalization while advancing its nuclear program, and his financial corruption (convicted) in Iran.
<h4>Propagandist</h4>
By just focusing on Mousavian&#8217;s activities in Resalat Daily between 1985 and 1990, I can show who he really is. During this period, he rarely wrote a piece under his name in this propaganda outlet, and the authors were mainly members of the Qom Seminary Instructors Association, members of the Mu`talfa Party, and people close to these hardliner groups. Other than these terror groups’ members, the rest of the content was published anonymously, with a pseudonym or under the title of the cultural or political section. These people were all followers of Khomeini who was anti-Semitic, anti-Baha&#8217;i, anti-women, and anti-LGBTQ.
<h4>Terror Regime, Terrorist Officials</h4>
In many cases, people look for evidence and documents for the problems in front of their eyes. We don&#8217;t need to provide any evidence for Mousavian to be an agent of the Islamist regime other than his positions in the last 45 years. He was and still is the agent of the Islamist terrorist regime. Even in Princeton, he has been promoting the regime’s nuclear agenda.
Considering the regime&#8217;s terrorist, brutal, and oppressive policies towards the Iranian people, the agency of this regime at high levels automatically turns a person into a criminal. Without contributions in complicity and cover-ups, people cannot be in the regime&#8217;s high-ranking positions. This alone is enough reason to fire Mousavian from Princeton. He is in Princeton to whitewash the crimes of the regime against humanity, and not to promote security and world peace.
In an outlet where Mousavian was on the editorial board (under the title of &#8220;central council&#8221; instead of the editorial board), this propaganda outlet was continuously promoting and praising terror and terrorism. Note that Fada’iyan (Devotees) of Islam, whose assassination actions were commemorated by this outlet, was a terrorist organization that assassinated two prime ministers. It also attempted to assassinate the Shah but failed. The Devotees of Islam also assassinated secular intellectuals such as Ahmad Kasravi. The Qom Seminary Instructors Association was the financier of terror activities and the provider of religious justifications for terror. Khomeini also supported these groups financially and ideologically.

During February and March of 1989, Resalat in one month, advertised and promoted Khomeini&#8217;s issuance of a fatwa on the killing of Salman Rushdie with big headlines every day. The editorials on 27 Bahman and 9 Esfand of 1367 (February 16 and 28, 1989, both probably under pseudonyms) fully defended the issuance of this fatwa, which is the outlet&#8217;s position and therefore Hossein Mousavian&#8217;s.
Contrary to popular belief, terrorism does not only happen when a group or individual shoots a political opponent, writer, or religious dissenter or presses the button to detonate a bomb. Terrorism is triggered when a religious scholar or political leader issues an order to eliminate the opposition or dissenters. The rest of the story is about the execution. The case of Salman Rushdie and his assassination four decades after Khomeini&#8217;s fatwa is a good example.
In this sense, Mousavian&#8217;s role in launching the Resalat and his responsibility in the Tehran Times, as a propagandist, promoter, and legitimizer of terrorism, is even more important than his role in the assassinations of dissidents in the 90s in Europe. Resalat has been a propaganda mouthpiece and not a newspaper in a free country. In a propaganda outlet, the materials and authors are selected in advance by the &#8220;central council&#8221; and every published article, piece, or news is aimed at advancing an agenda, plan, or narrative. Therefore, every member of the central council &#8211; like communist bulletins &#8211; is responsible for what is published in the outlet, and the responsibility of any article is not solely on the shoulders of the author. In a propaganda bulletin, the content is not just filtered through the council but what goes into the filter is pre-determined and ordered based on a specific political agenda.
Mousavian was the editor or chief editor (in some issues) of Resalat Daily which has been the pioneer of the narratives of elimination, purge, and executions. One of the outlet’s policies for which Mousavian is responsible as a member of its central council was the promotion of terrorism whether praising Suleiman Khater’s action, an Egyptian terrorist (January 28, 1986) or calling Prime Minister Mansour’s assassination a “revolutionary execution” (Badamchian’s piece, March 2, 1986; commemoration of the assassination day, January 20, 1986).
This outlet calls every assassination of the Pahlavi regime’s officials a “revolutionary execution.” During Mousavian’s work, the outlet arranged interviews with every terrorist or theoretician of terrorism who entered Iran, such as Ahmad Ra’if, one of the ideologues of the Muslim Brotherhood (February 16, 1987). Resalat constantly glorified Muslim terrorists inside and outside the country and still does so. This is its policy.
The following methods are used in the contents of this newspaper: dividing the world into those who dominate (non-Muslim) and those who are dominated (Muslim) in numerous op-eds and articles, attributing every issue during the Pahlavi dynasty to Western foreigners such as removing hijab, Bahaism, and homosexuality. According to the newspaper op-eds, America and Europe are responsible for starting the Iran-Iraq war, and the West is racist.
<h4>Underlying Method</h4>
Resalat Daily had a very clever way to promote terrorism and mass murder. This outlet prepared the mentality of the society for killing without informing. For example, on the subject of the 1988 massacre in prisons, it did not even provide a single line of news about this story during which 3,000-5,000 people were executed; but by publishing a series of articles under the title &#8220;Ghost of the Monster&#8221; subtitled &#8220;A narrative of the crimes of the hypocrite terrorist network” (an episode of it on August 6, 1988 under the pseudonym M-K, which is a security agent) tries to justify and legitimize the killing of members of the MEK organization.
Mousavi Ardebili, the head of the Supreme Court and imam of Tehran&#8217;s Friday Prayer, gave a speech about the necessity of removing and executing the opponents. Resalat published his anti-due process words in large fonts without any criticism. It is unlikely that the editors of the newspaper, including Hossein Mousavian, were unaware of the executions of thousands of opponents in prisons. In this sense, he is responsible for hiding the story. Resalat published Ardebili&#8217;s words on August 6, 1988. As a judiciary official, he asks the judicial authorities: &#8220;Why don&#8217;t you try and execute the MEK members?&#8221; He immediately puts aside the re-trial of the prisoners who have already been convicted in the kangaroo courts and says: &#8220;They don&#8217;t deserve a trial. Their sentence is death.&#8221;
In publishing these words, Mousavian did not question Friday Prayer leaders’ and the judicial officials’ statements in an editorial note. The editorial should have asked why the government executes previously convicted people without a trial. In the final days of the executions, Ali Khamenei said: &#8220;The Islamic Republic remains arrogant and will become stronger and more stable day by day,&#8221; (Resalat, August 27, 1988). In this case, no one in the newspaper asked him how the Islamic Republic is getting stronger day by day while it is busy killing.
<h4>Appeasing Appointment</h4>
The appointment of Hossein Mousavi at Princeton University violates all academic principles in the world. Beyond allocating an academic position without public ad and competition and considering academic qualifications, Mousavian has been placed in his position with the advice of politicians and financiers only because of his dark political records to be a deal maker in the nuclear agreement. This placement violated the academic and administrative independence of universities. Princeton&#8217;s decision-makers most likely agreed to such a ridiculous act only to gain more access to federal public resources or to increase their influence through the federal government channels. Mousavian did not have a scientific record before being hired, and his role was mostly as an intermediary for his respective government and advancing its interests.

University of Maryland President Darryll J. Pines threatened to call the police on a Jewish woman for emailing criticism of the school’s response to anti-Semitism, the same week he said freedom of speech meant he couldn&#8217;t stop an anti-Israel group from reserving a campus quad on the anniversary of Hamas&#8217;s October 7 attack, according to emails obtained by The Daily Wire.
The emails show that on August 24, Pines emailed the woman — the mother of a student, who had never emailed the president — asking her to halt all communications with members of the school&#8217;s anti-Semitism task force, lest he &#8220;pursu[e] further action, including, without limitation, seeking the assistance of our University of Maryland Police Department.&#8221;
On August 28, Pines replied to another Maryland resident who expressed concern about the university granting Students For Justice in Palestine (SJP) a reservation to take over nine acres in the center of campus for an October 7 event, similar to one held on the second day of school honoring Palestinian &#8220;martyrs.&#8221; In the email, Pines defended the group, saying it “simply wanted to exercise their first amendment and free speech right to honor those Palestinian lives that have been lost as a result of this conflict.&#8221;
Pines in the email echoed SJP&#8217;s false claim that &#8220;approximately 150,000 lives [have been] lost during this conflict.” Even Hamas estimates the total number killed to be 40,000.
A day after Pines defended SJP&#8217;s planned event, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/university-of-maryland-will-let-anti-israel-group-hold-oct-7-rally">reported</a> that the president had approved the event over the objections of the campus rabbi, who conveyed the concerns of Jewish parents and students to Pines. On September 1, the University System of Maryland <a href="https://www.usmd.edu/newsroom/news/2427">intervened</a>, prohibiting all student groups from hosting events on October 7.
The same day, Pines sent an <a href="https://president.umd.edu/articles/remembering-the-one-year-anniversary-of-october-7-2023">email</a> to the university community suggesting the planned SJP event was cancelled to ensure the &#8220;safety&#8221; of the protesters, even though he acknowledged that &#8220;UMPD has assured me that there is no immediate or active threat to prompt this assessment.&#8221; His email did not describe why the October 7 date was significant except to say that it was the “upcoming one-year anniversary of October 7, 2023.”
The University of Maryland was one of several American schools whose campuses were wracked with anti-Semitism in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel that left more than 1,200 dead. In response, Pines announce the creation of a task force dedicated to fighting both anti-Semitism and Islamophobia — though there was no evidence of rampant Islamophobia on campus. The task force included a number of anti-Israel voices, including co-chair Shibley Telhami, who has accused Israelis of poisoning Arabs’ drinking water and smashing children&#8217;s toys, among other claims.
Pines&#8217;s task force also excluded some pro-Israel voices who were nominated, such as Gilad Chen, a Jewish professor, and Jeffrey Herf, a Holocaust expert.
All of this led one Jewish mother of a University of Maryland student to reach out to the task force, pressing it for information about its actions and raising concerns about its composition and asking where the boundaries of acceptable anti-Israel activity would be drawn. After becoming frustrated by a lack of information, she eventually called attention to Telhami&#8217;s social media posts and said &#8220;It’s LUDICROUS that someone who holds hateful views towards Israel (only democracy in the Middle East) and Jews is Chair of a Task Force on antisemitism!!!!  Would you have a KKK member on this Taskforce?&#8221;
The Daily Wire is withholding the names of the parent, and the other Maryland resident who contacted Pines. The parent told The Daily Wire that &#8220;the hypocrisy of it all is shocking,” and that Pines&#8217;s missive only proved the “double standard” that she and other Jewish community members pressed him about.
“There was nothing [harmful in my emails], it was literally begging for accountability,&#8221; she said. &#8220;You established a task force and announced it, and now we’re just asking who’s on it, what’s it doing and when is it being rolled out?”
Pines, who did not respond to a request for comment, did not address the parent&#8217;s questions. Rather, he went on the attack, the emails show.
“It has come to my attention that you have recently sent several emails to certain members of our leadership team and faculty, as well as to the co-chairs of the UMD Joint Presidential-University Senate Task Force on Antisemitism and Islamophobia,&#8221; Pines wrote. &#8220;It is our view that those communications contain INAPPROPRIATE remarks and UNFOUNDED accusations, and otherwise reflect unacceptable behavior by any member of our community.&#8221;

“Immediately cease and refrain from sending any further communications to any members of the Task Force in connection with their work,&#8221; Pines added. Please know that should you fail to comply with this request, we will consider pursuing further action, including, without limitation, seeking the assistance of our University of Maryland Police Department (UMPD).&#8221;

Meanwhile, Pines&#8217;s email to the other resident&#8211;which he also fired off after that resident suggested that Pines, who is black, would have a different standard for speech aimed at blacks compared to speech aimed at Jews&#8211; seemed to contain &#8220;inaccurate&#8221; claims of its own.
Pines claimed that SJP “have both publicly and on social media condemned the horrific attack by Hamas that happened last fall on October 7, 2024 [sic].”
The Daily Wire reviewed the University of Maryland SJP chapter&#8217;s Instagram posts dating back to the terrorist attack and found none condemning Hamas or the terrorist attack. The group posted nothing on October 7, and the next day posted a “demand” that the university boycott and divest from Israel. It subsequently called the Israeli army “war criminals” using a “charade of self-defense” and demanded “Hands off Rahah Now,” referring to the location where Hamas was keeping an American hostage, who it later killed.

Billionaire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-billionaire-bill-ackman-warns-of-dire-anti-semitism-at-harvard-that-is-getting-worse" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bill Ackman</a>, a long-time Democrat donor, sharply criticized President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris over their administration&#8217;s response to the October 7th massacre in Israel, saying that their weak response to the Hamas terrorists who perpetrated those attacks had made Americans less safe.
Ackman was among the first to call out the virulent anti-semitism — at Harvard University and on other college campuses nationwide — in the wake of the attacks, and he noted in a Sunday X post that the Biden-Harris administration had done little in the months since to suggest that they had any interest in fixing the clear and present problem.

The answer, Ackman said, was simple: politics. The Democrats were under political pressure not to help Israel or to stand against the terrorist group Hamas, but to stand by and allow the terrorists to operate unchecked — all to appease a small but vocal group within their own party.
&#8220;Biden (who has been on vacation for 16 days) and @KamalaHarris, who also just skipped a ceremony at Arlington Cemetery to honor 13 fallen soldiers from the failed Afghanistan withdrawal, along with their advisers in the DNC, believe they will lose important votes in certain key swing states and from Hamas supporters on campuses,&#8221; Ackman explained.
He went on to argue that strength, &#8220;brute force,&#8221; was historically the only language to which terrorists respond — and that instead of pressuring Israel to stand down, the Unites States should have been rallying any and all willing forces to aid Israel in their attempts to stamp out Hamas altogether.
&#8220;The United States should have put more pressure on our other allies in the region to help, and done everything we can to help Israel defeat Hamas and recover the hostages, but unfortunately this was not good politics for Biden/Harris and some of their supporters,&#8221; he said.
But the real problem is that in addition to ramping up the danger for Israel, the Biden-Harris response had also made Americans at home &#8220;less safe.&#8221;
&#8220;By being weak and lacking resolve, we failed our captured, now dead citizens, and the other hostages and their families while emboldening terrorists around the world. The University of Maryland will allow the anti-Israel Students for Justice in Palestine to take over a massive chunk of its campus on October 7, the anniversary of Hamas&#8217; slaughter of 1,200 Israelis.
Rabbi Ari Israel, director of the university&#8217;s Hillel chapter, told The Daily Wire he expressed concerns about the event to university leadership. SJP held a similar event on Tuesday, the university&#8217;s second day of classes, setting up 15,000 flags in the center of campus to “honor the 150,000+ martyrs who have lost their lives within the past year,” and holding speeches against “the zionist entity,” according to an SJP flier.
The October 7 event is likely to be similar, and set to take place on the same section of campus.
Not even Hamas claims 150,000 people have been killed since Oct. 7 — the terrorist group alleges that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/eighty-media-outlets-issue-correction-on-ap-story-that-inflated-gaza-civilian-death-toll" target="_blank" rel="noopener">40,000</a> Palestinians have been killed— but SJP says it uses a higher “estimate” because “the health ministry has been unable to keep count of the dead.&#8221;
&#8220;We are approaching 11 months of genocide against the Palestinians,&#8221; the Maryland chapter of SJP said on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C_GdCwzRkey/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instagram</a> &#8220;It has been almost a full year of genocide and terror as death tolls continue to rise.&#8221; In its <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C9yDEB3PJv6/?hl=en&amp;img_index=5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declaration of views,</a> the university&#8217;s SJP chapter &#8220;unequivocally states that the Zionist state of Israel has no right to exist.&#8221;
&#8220;The zionist entity has committed some of the most egregious criminal acts of our century&#8221; the group added.
Israel told parents of Jewish university students that “we did voice our concerns with senior UMD leadership&#8221; and &#8220;apprised them of the emotional load SJP&#8217;s callous behavior will bear on our Jewish community if they protest on the greatest Jewish day of mourning and tragedy since the Holocaust.”
The University of Maryland SJP chapter did not return a request for comment from The Daily Wire. Spokespeople for University of Maryland President Darryll Pines did not provide SJP’s application materials for reserving the space, or explain Pines’ justification in allowing it to proceed.

Gerard Filitti, a lawyer for the Lawfare Project, which fights anti-Semitism on campus, wrote to Pines demanding the university cancel the event. According to Filitti, the event violates Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which bars federal funds from being spent to encourage discrimination.
“No campus should permit SJP or any similar organization to hold any kind of event on October 7th,&#8221; Filitti wrote. &#8220;Doing so gives the university&#8217;s tacit approval to the celebration of Hamas&#8217; violent and despicable actions on that day,&#8221; and tells &#8220;Jewish students, faculty, and staff that the university is condoning the celebration of the worst slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust.&#8221;
Filitti also noted that the SJP event highlights how American universities discount the needs of Jewish students.
“Would any university allow a student organization to burn crosses on its campus to celebrate the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.? To celebrate the anniversary of 9/11 by calling for new Al Qaeda attacks? We all know the answer to those questions is an emphatic no,” he wrote.
In 2022, when the Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies and College of Arts and Humanities invited the ambassador to Israel, Michael Herzog, to speak, Maryland&#8217;s SJP chapter said it &#8220;wholeheartedly oppose[s] the event&#8221; and said &#8220;The University of Maryland should stand in morality by <a href="https://x.com/UMD_SJP/status/1585680956123672577/photo/2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">disallowing</a> Herzog&#8217;s presence on our campus.&#8221;
Five days after Hamas’ terror attack, the national SJP held a “Day of Resistance,” and issued a statement calling the attack a &#8220;historic win for the Palestinian resistance. The group further called for “armed confrontation with the oppressors.” The Anti-Defamation League has said <a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounder/students-justice-palestine-sjp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SJP supports terror and violence</a> and called for “dismantling” Zionism on college campuses.
College campuses have become hotbeds of anti-Semitism since Oct. 7, in large part, thanks to the actions of SJP. George Washington University banned its SJP chapter after the group projected <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/george-washington-university-suspends-students-for-justice-in-palestine-group/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Glory to our Martyrs”</a> on a campus library named after a Jew. Bard College&#8217;s SJP chapter printed a poster adorned with images of paragliders, a reference to how Hamas terrorists crossed the Israeli border to massacre civilians. The chapter also said it “unequivocally supports the Unity Intifada.”

University of Maryland Will Let Anti-Israel Group Hold Oct. 7 Rally

Massachusetts’ largest teachers union is threatening to sue a group of Republican state lawmakers who condemned the group for tapping an anti-Israel activist to create learning materials about the Gaza war.
The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) said this month that it “will not hesitate to take legal action if warranted” against the Massachusetts House and Senate Republican Caucuses for a July letter objecting to the union tasking Ricardo Rosa with developing model curricula about Israel and “Occupied Palestine.”
The Republicans objected to Rosa — who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/turning-classrooms-into-arenas-of-radicalism-teachers-union-tasks-anti-israel-activist-to-create-curriculum-about-israel">has a record</a> of anti-Israel and anti-American rhetoric — developing the materials. The lawmakers observed that Rosa advocated for a “Free Palestine” in the days following October 7, called the United States a “settler colony,” glorified terrorist and plane hijacker Leila Khaled, and voiced his support for a professor who called Zionists “swine” and encouraged protests in Jewish neighborhoods.
In response, the MTA board of directors called the Republicans’ letter “reprehensible,” defended Rosa from the lawmakers’ criticism, and threatened legal action.

“Ricardo Rosa, MTA’s Director of Training and Professional Learning, has been reprehensibly attacked for simply performing his job at the MTA,” the MTA <a href="https://icanaction.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/BOD-Letter-to-MA-House-and-Senate-Republican-Caucus-Members-080524_COPY.pdf">wrote</a>,  in response to Republican lawmakers’ claim that Rosa’s inflammatory statements “demonstrate a clear commitment to a political agenda rather than educational integrity.”
The union, which represents 117,000 educators, came under fire for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/massachusetts-teachers-union-says-u-s-is-complicit-in-genocidal-assault-in-gaza">condemning</a> the United States for being complicit in a “genocidal assault” in the wake of Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.
The lawmakers called for Rosa’s appointment to be revoked, lest his influence undermine the safety of Jewish and Israeli students and risk “turning classrooms into arenas of radicalism.” They pushed the MTA to instead focus on creating a healthy work environment for teachers and providing a quality education to students.
The union in response called Rosa a “respected scholar” and said they are “privileged to have him on staff.”
Rep. Steven Howitt, who organized the Republican letter, told The Daily Wire that he stands by the statement.
“Our office mobilized members of the Republican Caucus to issue a joint statement condemning the decision and called on the MTA to revoke Dr. Rosa’s appointment and pause the development of these educational materials,” Howitt said. “In response, the MTA issued a statement containing inconsistencies and have chosen to defend Dr. Rosa and the development of these materials. I stand by the original statement issued by our caucus.”
The MTA board of directors said it decided to respond to the lawmakers after ignoring other public criticism because the letter “encouraged unprovoked threats against our staff and our public schools and have forced us to report the most serious threats to the FBI and the Massachusetts Attorney General.”
The MTA  attempted to refute the lawmakers by noting that it held workshops about anti-Semitism and allowed for a “broad range of presenters” to speak in its workshops.
In March, the MTA faced criticism after Rosa’s department hosted a “The Struggle Against Anti-Palestinian Racism,” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/massachusetts-teachers-union-hosts-webinar-by-professor-who-praised-hamas-enraging-membership">webinar</a>, featuring a presenter who once praised Hamas terrorists for their “courage” on October 7. The webinar aimed to persuade attendees that there was no connection between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism.
“Holding such forums does not suggest MTA endorsement of each and every idea presented. Rather, it models the highest democratic value and exchange of diverse and at times competing ideas that is a hallmark of our labor union,” the group wrote.
It added that the MTA “does not develop curriculum” but instead “provide[s] research and resources” for its members to “critically review and utilize as they see fit in their professional development.”
After October 7, the MTA rejected an anti-Semitism workshop proposal from Jany Finkielsztein, a retired instructional coach for the Waltham Public Schools who has created many teacher training programs throughout her 17-year career.
“I believe my workshop proposal, titled ‘Jewish Ethnic and Cultural Diversity at a Time of Rising Anti-Semitism’ was likely declined due to a potential conflict with the narrative promoted by certain members of the MTA, including Rosa, who advocate for portraying Israel as a settler colonial enterprise and Jews as white oppressors,” Finkielsztein told The Daily Wire.

In recent years, Rosa has taken to social media to <a href="https://archive.is/s2yvO">declare</a> that “Western humanity is a lie,” <a href="https://archive.is/u7Sxc">accuse</a> Israel of committing genocide, and post “Free Palestine” with an image of a <a href="https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20240308-thousands-of-yemenis-rally-in-support-of-gaza-in-houthi-held-sanaa/">Houthi-run</a> rally calling for supporting Gaza and increasing attacks.
Rosa also <a href="https://archive.is/9XVeY">advocated for</a> the reinstatement of Danny Shaw, a former John Jay College professor, who he described as a “good brother.” Shaw was dismissed after calling Zionists “Babylon swine,” encouraging protests in “their neighborhoods,” and pushing other anti-Semitic tropes, <a href="https://x.com/canarymission/status/1775897208895967331">according to Canary Mission</a>. Rosa also <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C30_1xTvJYp/">praised</a> Aaron Bushnell, the U.S. airman who set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C., in February.
The MTA has not responded to a request for comment.

Under her watch, protesters <a href="https://www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2024/04/30/dozens-occupy-hamilton-hall-as-pro-palestinian-protests-spread-across-campus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">occupied</a> Hamilton Hall and <a href="https://www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2024/04/30/dozens-occupy-hamilton-hall-as-pro-palestinian-protests-spread-across-campus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">burned</a> a student’s Israeli flag before assaulting him with rocks. Now, Columbia is <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/08/11/us-news/columbia-restricts-campus-access-as-it-braces-for-anti-israel-protests-to-return/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">restricting</a> campus access for demonstrations and <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/education/columbia-looks-to-give-campus-police-arresting-power-after-protests-11d2b3bc?st=e1abh0rzjzdi9sm&amp;reflink=article_copyURL_share">considering</a> arrest authorization for its campus police.
It’s not just Columbia either. After spending millions of dollars on property damages rather than limit students’ supposed “speech rights” during Israel-Hamas protests last semester, universities are now walking back their protest policies. This month it was revealed that Harvard <a href="https://www.harvardmagazine.com/2024/08/new-rules-campus-use">banned</a> encampments and chalking, and tax-payer-funded Indiana University is <a href="https://policies.iu.edu/policies/ua-14-first-amendment-indiana-university/index.html">doing</a> the same. 
It’s not just Jewish students who are apprehensive about this fall.
We’re excited to vote in our first presidential election, but we’re fed up with fringe students who physically threaten us to enforce a campus culture of intimidation.
Eli Noam, a Columbia Garrett Professor of Public Policy and Business Responsibility, was a student at Harvard during student protests in the 1960s. He says that the protests today are about bullying, not change.
“In the ‘60s, we protested and challenged the university administration. Today’s students are looking for the administration to protect them from all kinds of evil things like harassment, discrimination, bullying, and so on.”
60% of students at least somewhat agree that the climate at their school prohibits them from expressing their opinions because others might find it offensive, according to a recent Knight Foundation-Ipsos <a href="https://www.ipsos.com/sites/default/files/ct/news/documents/2024-07/Knight%20Foundation_Ipsos_Free%20Expression_July%202024.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll</a>. Only 43% of students feel that freedom of speech is “very secure or secure today” — a 30% drop since 2016.
Our campus climate used to require a self-censorship tax we paid to eat lunch with friends, get invited to parties, and share notes. Now, for simply being Jewish, students are paying with their physical safety, like the UCLA student who was <a href="https://www.foxla.com/news/jewish-ucla-student-said-protesters-blocked-him-from-walking-to-class" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blocked</a> from attending class by a Jewish Exclusion Zone, or the Yale student who was <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/i-was-stabbed-in-the-eye-at-yale" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stabbed</a> in the eye, or the student at my school who was <a href="https://dailyorange.com/2024/05/pro-palestine-protest-altercation-walnut/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">assaulted</a> in front of his Jewish fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau.
All of us — despite our race, religion or creed — are taking notice.
“I always thought that there had been a risk of harassment,” Noelle Delumpa, a junior at Xavier University, said. “I never really worried about physical violence, but I have started to worry with the uprising of the pro-Palestine protests, seeing how they are burning these flags and pushing people out of encampments if they don’t ‘belong.’”
Anthony Rispo, a student at Columbia, agrees. “I don’t really feel that way for myself, per se, but when you start to add things up, it doesn’t look good.”
“Look, Hamilton Hall was vandalized, pure and simple,” he continued. “The students that did it got off free.”
Our worries are warranted. These unruly demonstrators plan to return with the same vigor as before. In response to the new policies at Columbia, protesters <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/columbia-university-coo-cas-holloway-red-paint-apartment-rcna166079" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vandalized</a> Columbia’s Chief Operating Officer’s home and propped up a sign on campus that read “We’re Back Bitches.” Harvard’s Out of Occupied Palestine group <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C-ERg8PJwFp/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>, “Not reading that, Free Palestine” on Instagram.

As we get closer to November 5, all issues are fair game in our national conversation — except on campus. And as much as administrators claim they protect free speech, we know our schools don’t have our backs.
Just ask Macy Gunnell, a junior at St. Mary’s College, who advocated for the reversal of a policy that would have admitted transgender women to her all-women’s college. When she rallied alumni, family and friends to boycott the school in protest of the policy, she didn’t get the same leniency universities afforded pro-Hamas protesters.
“I was threatened with my life,” Gunnell said. “I locked my door and had my phone by hand, ready to call the police if necessary. People were spreading my room number online, which definitely did not help either.” Instead of defending Macy’s speech rights, Administrators idly watched as students threatened her safety.
The recent federal <a href="https://becketnewsite.s3.amazonaws.com/20240813183534/injunction.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">injunction</a> against the University of California, Los Angeles and Trump’s promise to <a href="https://www.c-span.org/video/?537763-1/fmr-pres-trump-speaks-antisemitism-event-bedminster-nj" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crack</a> down on college anti-Semitism are signs of hope. But sadly I predict this fall will be no different.
“Ultimately, they [the protesters] are prepared to break the rules, whatever the rules are, as part of a process to create attention, noise, and victimhood,” Prof. Noam said. “Now, the university administration believes that if they’re flexible and show that they’re nice guys, somehow everyone will be friends. I’m just not sure if that’s the reality.”
Protesters emboldened by the fecklessness of administrators will dominate the discourse and dox anyone who dares dissent. The Israel-Palestine conflict, immigration, and abortion are all hot-button issues this year. As the election season evolves, we all are nervously suppressing our beliefs because we know we’re next.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/france" target="_blank" rel="noopener">French authorities</a> said that an Islamic terrorist attack was carried out on a synagogue in southern France on Saturday as worshippers were making their way to the building.
Two cars exploded outside the synagogue in La Grande-Motte Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and the building&#8217;s doors were lit on fire while five people, including a rabbi, were inside.
French anti-terrorism officials said that the man was armed with a gun and was carrying a Palestinian flag during the terror attack. They said that he tried to get inside the building, but was unable to, at which point he lit the doors on fire.
&#8220;Thoughts for the faithful of the synagogue of La Grande-Motte and all the Jews of our country,&#8221; said French President Emmanuel Macron. &#8220;Everything is done to find the author of this terrorist act and protect places of worship.&#8221;
&#8220;The fight against anti-Semitism is a constant battle, that of the united Nation,&#8221; he added.
While no one in the building was hurt, a police officer was injured when one of the cars exploded, French officials said.

Anti-terrorism authorities were treating the attack as an &#8220;attempted assassination by a terrorist organization intended to cause harm and destroy property,&#8221; CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/24/europe/france-synagogue-arson-la-grande-motte-intl/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The Islamic terrorist attack comes as the continent has seen a sharp uptick in anti-Semitic attacks and foiled terrorist attacks over the last year in response to Hamas&#8217; October 7 massacre in Israel.
The attack comes as Germany was rocked by an Islamic terrorist attack on Friday night when a man shouting &#8220;Allahu Akbar&#8221; <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/islamic-terrorists-take-responsibility-for-mass-stabbing-attack-in-germany-as-multiple-arrests-made" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stabbed</a> nine people, killing three.

Former Republican presidential contender <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/vivek-ramaswamy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vivek Ramaswamy</a> was chased out of an anti-Israel protest a few blocks away from the DNC after making a surprise appearance.
Ramaswamy was noticed by the crowd of radical activists as soon as he left his car, and was swarmed by protesters and journalists at Union Park where the protests have been organizing all week.
“You should take off. We don’t want you here,” Hatem Abudayyeh, who <a href="https://canarymission.org/individual/Hatem_Abudayyeh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">openly supports</a> Hamas, told Ramaswamy. The Arab activist, who had his home raided by the FBI in 2010 for “material support of terrorism,” told Ramaswamy to leave after telling him he doesn’t have a right to be present if he does not “support the Palestinian people.”
“The good news is we are in America and so we all actually get to express ourselves,” Ramaswamy quipped back.

Abudayyeh called Ramaswamy a “racist Zionist pig,” setting off chants of, “Racist go home.” Ramaswamy was then mobbed and escorted out of the park by his security team, setting off a frenzy among local police trying to contain the crowd to the park.
Immediately after the altercation, Ramaswamy told The Daily Wire that the protesters, if they really want an end to wars, should actually support former President Donald Trump.
“The irony is that if a lot of these people, if they want to stay out of war, there is a president who kept us out of war for four years,” Ramaswamy said as he was being escorted away from the scene. “There wasn’t war in the Middle East. There wasn’t war in Russia and Ukraine.”

Before the conflict started, Ramaswamy said he enjoyed his exchange with a communist who sold him a newspaper on communism for five dollars.
“I think there are a lot of people who may want to engage in thoughtful dissent, but the majority of what it has become ends up devolving into a thoughtless and quasi-physical exercise,&#8221; he said. “You got a lot of people that are rightly pissed off about the direction of the Democratic Party.”

Ramaswamy said he “wanted to come see” the protest for himself because he “didn’t trust” the media’s representation of it.
At the park, protesters were carrying a mix of Palestinian flags, Black Liberation flags, Communists flags, and a Hezbollah flag.
The protesters are expected to march outside the DNC Thursday night, the last night of the convention, which will feature Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris as the headliner.

At the City University of New York (CUNY), where anti-Israel agitators <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/05/14/us-news/anti-israel-student-protesters-take-over-cuny-graduate-center/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">took over</a> the school’s Graduate Center Library in May, university police say they are too understaffed to protect Jewish students this fall.
“The university is going into this under fire – they have no idea what’s going to happen. There’s no preparation,” a CUNY officer <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/08/15/us-news/cuny-cops-fear-schools-unprepared-for-looming-onslaught-of-anti-israel-protests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the New York Post, adding, “There have been no meetings about any of this. Ever since the encampment ended, everyone went on vacation. There’s no ‘Let’s prepare for September.’”
“It’s going to be bad. Our numbers just aren’t there,” an officer acknowledged. “If there’s a spontaneous protest that we don’t have any knowledge of, we’re going to be outnumbered – just by the sheer number of students enrolled, we’re outnumbered. There’s no retention anymore with our police,” the officer <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/08/15/us-news/cuny-cops-fear-schools-unprepared-for-looming-onslaught-of-anti-israel-protests/">said</a>. “Our academy class used to be 100-to-150. We’ve got five now – five in the academy class. That’s how bad it got.”

“[The] pay is so low for these guys and they’re paying millions for contractors to be here with no training, no background,” he continued.  “They’re not concerned about the students and the staff. They’re worried about their image and making sure the students express their freedom of speech.”
As CUNY professor Jeffrey Lax noted in <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/04/06/how-cuny-became-americas-most-anti-semitic-university/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the New York Post</a> in April 2023, six months before the Hamas massacre of more than 1200 people in Israel, CUNY has a recent history of anti-Semitism. In May, a branch of CUNY, Brooklyn’s Kingsborough Community College, <a href="https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/antisemitism/article-801361">canceled an event</a> marking Israel’s Memorial Day, citing security concerns.
“Sadly, we expect anti-Israel activity will re-emerge at some colleges and universities as the fall semester begins,” the American Jewish Committee told <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/jewish-leaders-anticipate-return-anti-semitic-anti-israel-college-protests/26104">Cam</a><a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/jewish-leaders-anticipate-return-anti-semitic-anti-israel-college-protests/26104" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pus Reform</a>. “This semester, the response needs to be different.”
Julia Jassey, CEO of Jewish on Campus, added, “We haven’t seen much from universities yet. We haven’t seen many that are proactive. We had hoped that heading into the school year that universities would be better prepared than last year.”

On Tuesday, a federal district court issued an injunction against <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ucla" target="_blank" rel="noopener">UCLA</a> to stop the university from permitting and aiding anti-Semitic agitators blocking Jews from the campus. The injunction is the first in the nation against a university for permitting an anti-Semitic encampment.
Yitzchok Frankel, Joshua Ghayoum, and Eden Shemuelian sued the regents of the University of California after the university helped anti-Israel activists erect encampments where they blocked Jewish students from going to class, the library, or other areas on campus.
“With the knowledge and acquiescence of UCLA officials, the activists enforced what was effectively a ‘Jew Exclusion Zone,’ segregating Jewish students and preventing them from accessing the heart of campus, including classroom buildings and the main undergraduate library,” UCLA Professor Eugene Volokh <a href="https://reason.com/volokh/2024/06/06/lawsuit-filed-by-jewish-students-against-ucla/#:~:text=With%20the%20knowledge%20and%20acquiescence,and%20the%20main%20undergraduate%20library." target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> in Reason. “In many cases, the activists set up barriers and locked arms together, preventing those who refused to disavow Israel from passing through. To enter the Jew Exclusion Zone, a person had to make a statement pledging their allegiance to the activists’ views and have someone within the encampment ‘vouch’ for the individual’s fidelity to the activists’ cause.”
“UCLA reinforced these zones—both by providing metal barriers and by sending away Jewish students—while taking no effective action to ensure safe passage for Jewish students,” Becket Law, which represented the Jewish students, <a href="https://www.becketlaw.org/media/breaking-federal-court-orders-ucla-to-stop-helping-antisemitic-activists-target-jews/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>.

U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi <a href="https://becketnewsite.s3.amazonaws.com/20240813183534/injunction.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>, “In the year 2024, in the United States of America, in the State of California, in the City of Los Angeles, Jewish students were excluded from portions of the UCLA campus because they refused to denounce their faith. This fact is so unimaginable and so abhorrent to our constitutional guarantee of religious freedom that it bears repeating, Jewish students were excluded from portions of the UCLA campus because they refused to denounce their faith. UCLA does not dispute this. Instead, UCLA claims that it has no responsibility to protect the religious freedom of its Jewish students because the exclusion was engineered by third-party protesters. But under constitutional principles, UCLA may not allow services to some students when UCLA knows that other students are excluded on religious grounds, regardless of who engineered the exclusion.”
“The injuries result when Plaintiffs are excluded from certain of UCLA’s ordinarily available programs, activities, and campus areas and UCLA still provides those programs, activities, and campus areas to other students knowing that Plaintiffs and students like them are excluded based on their religious exercise,” Scarsi added.
The ruling will be implemented on August 15. UCLA is expected to appeal the ruling.
