Disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY), who resigned amid twin scandals regarding his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, is now the subject of an investigation undertaken by the U.S. Justice Department.
The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/20/us/politics/andrew-cuomo-investigation-doj.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Tuesday that the investigation had begun about one month earlier, and that it stemmed from his order mandating that nursing homes in the state of New York accept patients regardless of whether or not they&#8217;d tested positive for COVID-19.
The times cited two as-yet-unnamed &#8220;sources familiar with the matter&#8221; and said, &#8220;The Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation of Andrew M. Cuomo, a front-runner in the New York City mayoral race, after Republicans accused him of lying to Congress about decisions he made during the coronavirus pandemic as governor.&#8221;
A Justice Department spokesperson reportedly declined to comment on the situation, citing a policy against discussing ongoing investigations either to confirm or deny their existence.
Cuomo is currently leading the Democratic field going into the next New York City mayoral election, and his spokesman Rich Azzopardi claimed that the investigation was politically motivated.
&#8220;We have never been informed of any such matter, so why would someone leak it now? The answer is obvious: This is lawfare and election interference plain and simple — something President Trump and his top Department of Justice officials say they are against,&#8221; Azzopardi said, arguing that Cuomo had &#8220;testified truthfully to the best of his recollection about events from four years earlier, and he offered to address any follow-up questions from the subcommittee — but from the beginning this was all transparently political.&#8221;
The investigation was opened by the Washington, D.C., U.S. Attorney’s Office when Ed Martin was still serving in the position on an interim basis. Jeanine Pirro has since been appointed to the role and her office will spearhead the investigation.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said after a hearing in June of 2024 that he had seen &#8220;overwhelming evidence&#8221; that Cuomo had been part of a 2020 audit that undercounted COVID nursing home deaths by 46%. He was referred to the Justice Department for what were termed &#8220;criminally false statements.&#8221;
The news comes just weeks after the Justice Department dropped a case against current Mayor Eric Adams — who is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/eric-adams-back-in-nyc-mayor-race-as-an-independent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">running for reelection</a> as an independent — over concerns that it had been a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/federal-judge-dismisses-corruption-case-against-nyc-mayor-eric-adams" target="_blank" rel="noopener">political prosecution</a> undertaken by the DOJ under former President Joe Biden.

Anyone who went to COVID.gov on Friday hoping to find information about where to get their 10th booster was in for a big shock.
The website, created by the Biden administration to spread information about vaccines and other government COVID policies, now <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/lab-leak-true-origins-of-covid-19/">redirects to a page</a> explaining how the coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab.
&#8220;LAB LEAK: The True Origins of COVID-19&#8221; walks readers through the pandemic&#8217;s origins and exposes Dr. Anthony Fauci and other government officials who attempted to discredit the now-vindicated lab leak theory. The website explains how the coronavirus likely originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where a group called EcoHealth &#8220;used U.S. taxpayer dollars to facilitate dangerous gain-of-function research.&#8221;
Democrats and the mainstream media long dismissed this theory as a &#8220;conspiracy&#8221; and actively pushed a different narrative.
“&#8217;The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2&#8242; publication — which was used repeatedly by public health officials and the media to discredit the lab leak theory — was prompted by Dr. Fauci to push the preferred narrative that COVID-19 originated naturally,&#8221; the website says. &#8220;By nearly all measures of science, if there was evidence of a natural origin it would have already surfaced. But it hasn’t.&#8221;
&#8220;The American people deserve to know the truth about the Covid pandemic and we will always find ways to reach communities with that message,&#8221; a senior Trump administration official told Fox News.
The website makes the case against various government COVID recommendations, including mask mandates, lockdowns, and social distancing.
&#8220;There was no conclusive evidence that masks effectively protected Americans from COVID-19,&#8221; the website states. &#8220;Prolonged lockdowns caused immeasurable harm to not only the American economy, but also to the mental and physical health of Americans, with a particularly negative effect on younger citizens.&#8221;
It devotes an entire section to &#8220;New York Pandemic Failures,&#8221; which explains that then-Governor Andrew Cuomo and his administration &#8220;worked to cover up the tragic aftermath of their policy decisions in an apparent effort to shield themselves from accountability.&#8221;

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) announced on Saturday that he is throwing his hat in the ring to be the next mayor of New York City.
The announcement from Cuomo comes after he was forced to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-andrew-cuomo-to-resign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resign</a> in 2021 over allegations of sexual harassment from roughly a dozen women — which he strongly denied.
&#8220;Today, our New York City is in trouble,&#8221; he said in his announcement video. &#8220;You feel it when you walk down the street and try not to make eye contact with a mentally ill homeless person, or when the anxiety rises up in your chest as you&#8217;re walking down into the subway. You see it in the empty store fronts, the graffiti, the grime, the migrant influx, the random violence. The city just feels threatening, out of control, and in crisis. These conditions exist not as an act of God, but rather as an act of our political leaders, or more precisely, the lack of intelligent action by many of our political leaders.&#8221;
He championed leftist causes, including gun control, &#8220;LGBTQ&#8221; rights, green energy, and touted achievements like the renovation of La Guardia Airport.
Cuomo spoke at length about the city&#8217;s crime problems, saying that Democrats who championed the &#8220;defund the police&#8221; movement needed to stop.
&#8220;We must acknowledge the simple truth that they are just plain wrong, deadly wrong,&#8221; he said. &#8220;They set us back, and we must now return to actually fighting crime.&#8221;
He said that the city needed a significant increase in its police force and needed to show more force in the subways to stop the crime problem that has plagued the public transportation system in recent years.
Cuomo spoke out strongly against anti-Semitism that has erupted in recent years, but, unlike more woke Democrats, did not mention anything about Islamophobia — a sign that he is appealing to more moderates and maybe even some more conservative voters in the city.
The most shocking moment of the video came when he touted his response to the coronavirus pandemic, claiming that he &#8220;led the country&#8221; despite his widely criticized response, including his nursing home scandal.
&#8220;Did I always do everything right in my years of government service? Of course not,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Would I do some things differently, knowing what I know now? Certainly. Did I make mistakes? Some painfully, definitely, and I believe I learned from them, and that I am a better person for it, and I hope to show you that every day, but I promise you this: I know what needs to be done, and I know how to do it, and I will give it my all to get the job done, and it will get done.&#8221;

One of the women who accused former New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment has dropped her lawsuit against him.
Charlotte Bennett was the second woman who came forward with accusations against Cuomo. Cuomo’s attorneys, Rita Glavin and Theresa Trzaskoma, sent out a statement claiming Bennett’s decision to drop her lawsuit amounted to an admission that her claims were false.
&#8220;Ms. Bennett&#8217;s decision to drop her baseless lawsuit should be viewed as a complete capitulation and a desperate attempt to avoid being confronted with the mountains of exculpatory discovery – including contemporaneous texts and videos that the AG’s office never obtained – that completely refute her claims against Governor Cuomo,” the attorneys <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/former-new-york-state-governor-andrew-cuomos-sexual-harassment-accuser-drops-federal-lawsuit">said</a>, per Fox News.
&#8220;After falsely smearing Governor Cuomo for years, Ms. Bennett suddenly withdrew her federal lawsuit on the eve of her deposition to avoid having to admit under oath that her allegations were false and her claims had no merit,” they continued. “If New York State does give in to her public pressure campaign and settles, it will not be on the merits and should require the public release of all the evidence so that New Yorkers finally know the truth: Governor Cuomo never sexually harassed anyone.&#8221;
Bennett was represented by Debra Katz, the woman who represented Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser Christine Blasey Ford. Katz released her <a href="https://katzbanks.com/news/katz-bennett-ny-case-statement/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">own statement</a> on her law firm’s website.
&#8220;Mr. Cuomo has used these legal proceedings to punish Ms. Bennett and others who reported his sexual harassment, and to cause more harm to her, all at the expense of New York taxpayers,&#8221; Katz wrote. &#8220;In dismissing the federal case we thus hope that our client will be able to resolve this dispute and finally be made whole for all the damage Mr. Cuomo and his agents caused her.&#8221;

Bennett worked as an executive assistant and health policy adviser in Cuomo’s administration before he resigned in November 2020, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/now-its-two-second-woman-claims-cuomo-sexually-harassed-her" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. She <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/27/nyregion/cuomo-charlotte-bennett-sexual-harassment.html?action=click&amp;module=Spotlight&amp;pgtype=Homepage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times in February 2021 that Cuomo began harassing her in the spring of 2020. Bennett told the outlet that Cuomo would ask her questions about her sex life and whether she was monogamous in her relationships. She claimed he also asked her if she ever had sex with older men.
Prior to the spring of 2020, Bennett said Cuomo had asked her about her dating life, but she “saw him more as a father figure” and didn’t think anything of it.
But on May 15, 2020, Bennett began to see things differently when, she said, Cuomo kept asking her about her love life and seemed to fixate on her, saying she was the victim of sexual assault. A few weeks later, Bennett said, Cuomo began asking inappropriate questions about her love life.
“He asked me if I believed if age made a difference in relationships and he also asked me in the same conversation if I had ever been with an older man,” Bennett told the Times.
The first woman to accuse Cuomo, Lindsey Boylan, made her allegations on X and finally detailed them in a post on Medium a couple months later, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/woman-who-accused-andrew-cuomo-of-sexual-harassment-finally-details-allegations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> at the time.
The Westchester County District Attorney’s office also investigated two other allegations of sexual misconduct against Cuomo but decided <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/district-attorney-no-charges-against-cuomo-over-sexual-allegations-despite-credible-evidence" target="_blank" rel="noopener">not to charge</a> him despite “credible evidence.”

A House panel investigating the COVID pandemic referred former New York Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/andrew-cuomo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Andrew Cuomo</a> to the Justice Department for investigation on Wednesday over “multiple criminally false statements” he allegedly made to lawmakers.
Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) made the criminal referral, alleging that Cuomo lied to the committee about his handling of COVID. Specifically, Wenstrup <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/release/covid-select-refers-former-new-york-governor-andrew-cuomo-for-criminal-prosecution/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that Cuomo lied to House lawmakers about his knowledge of a report that was used to defend a New York policy that placed COVID patients in nursing homes.
At issue is Cuomo&#8217;s statements to lawmakers about his knowledge of a New York State Department of Health <a href="https://health.ny.gov/press/releases/2020/docs/nh_factors_report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from July 6, 2020. The report was used to explain an <a href="https://skillednursingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2020/03/DOH_COVID19__NHAdmissionsReadmissions__032520_1585166684475_0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">earlier policy</a> put forward by the state telling nursing homes they could not deny admission to people who had a confirmed or suspected case of COVID.
Under Cuomo’s policies, there were around 15,000 COVID nursing home <a href="https://apnews.com/article/cuomo-covid-pandemic-nursing-home-deaths-6fb16b6239e0da7d49ae0dd8b99987c3">deaths</a>, which was a much greater number than the figure first reported by New York. According to House investigators, Cuomo lied to lawmakers about his role in reviewing and editing the July 6 report and lied about discussing other aspects of the report during an interview with lawmakers on June 11.
“Mr. Cuomo made multiple criminally false statements, including that he was neither involved in the drafting nor the review of the July 6 Report. Documents establish that statement to be false,” Wenstrup <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/2024.10.30-SSCP-Referral-of-Andrew-M.-Cuomo.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> to the DOJ. “Mr. Cuomo also testified that he did not have any discussions about the July 6 Report being peer reviewed. Documents show that statement to be false. And Mr. Cuomo testified that he did not know whether the July 6 Report was reviewed by persons outside of the NYSDOH. Documents again demonstrate that statement to be false.”

Cuomo spokesman Richard Azzopardi <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/30/nyregion/cuomo-crime-covid-hearing.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied</a> all allegations of wrongdoing.
“This taxpayer-funded farce is an illegal use of Congress’s investigative authority,” Azzopardi told The New York Times. “The governor said he didn’t recall because he didn’t recall. The committee lied in their referral just as they have been lying to the public and the press.”
Wenstrup said that witnesses and documentation evidence backed up his panel’s assertions against Cuomo.
“Andrew Cuomo repeatedly lied to Congress, and he must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.” Wenstrup said. “This deliberate and self-serving attempt to avoid accountability for the thousands of lives lost in New York nursing homes during the pandemic will not stand.”

Rumors are swirling that ex-New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in disgrace three years ago, may run for mayor of New York City.
Cuomo has long told insiders he wouldn’t run for the position because he didn’t want to run against current NYC mayor Eric Adams, POLITICO <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/09/26/cuomo-mayor-adams-indictment-00181288" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The two share a similar base of moderate, black Democrat voters.
But Adams was indicted this week, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nyc-democrat-mayor-eric-adams-charged-with-bribery-fraud-acting-as-foreign-agent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, charged with bribery, fraud, and acting as a foreign agent. He faces up to 45 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
That indictment may have changed the game for Cuomo, who resigned in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct by nearly a dozen female staffers. But with Adams’s legal troubles, some insiders are suggesting Cuomo may run for mayor.
“I think he’s going to run,” Chris Coffey, a former adviser to ex-Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Andrew Yang’s 2021 mayoral campaign, told POLITICO. “He was probably going to run no matter what, and a weakened, or out-of-the-race Eric Adams is a better bet for him.”
Cuomo also reached out to New York business and labor leaders last year to gauge interest in a potential mayoral run. But his spokesperson, Rich Azzopardi, says that’s not going to happen.
“Governor Cuomo has spent a lifetime in public service fighting and delivering for the people of New York — that said, the speculation is premature as Governor Cuomo believes Mayor Adams is entitled to due process,&#8221; Azzopardi told The Daily Wire.
But, POLITICO reported, Cuomo’s political team is trying to create an aura of inevitability, even after the ex-governor testified before Congress about his disastrous COVID policies, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/andrew-cuomo-to-defend-nursing-home-covid-policy-as-congress-demands-accountability-for-13000-deaths" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Shortly before he testified, the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic released a report that found Cuomo “edited” a state report that minimized the deaths that occurred in New York nursing homes during the pandemic, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/andrew-cuomo-edited-report-that-minimized-covid-deaths-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“They [Cuomo and his then-staff] want to assert that that order is exactly the same as the federal CMS, which it is not,” Rep. Marc Molinaro <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/06/11/us-news/cuomo-grilled-by-house-panel-over-nys-covid-nursing-home-deaths-dont-see-a-lot-of-remorse/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “The state order says, ‘You shall take back individuals and you cannot deny them solely on the basis of COVID,’ which left them no option but to accept individuals that we knew would cause risk to the other patients.”

“Andrew Cuomo was attempting to shift blame for what was a clear directive,” Molinaro continued. “When they identified and knew that the order was causing great loss, they subsequently cooked the books to suggest that the numbers of those who died in nursing homes were much less than we knew.”
His handling of COVID is not the only baggage Cuomo would carry in a mayoral election. He ultimately resigned after multiple female staffers, including former adviser Lindsey Boylan, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/woman-who-accused-andrew-cuomo-of-sexual-harassment-finally-details-allegations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accused</a> him of sexual harassment. Boylan claimed in 2021 that Cuomo sexually harassed her “for years” and that “many saw it, and watched” and that she “could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks.”
“Not knowing what to expect what’s the most upsetting part aside from knowing that no one would do a damn thing even when they saw it. No one. And I *know* I am not the only woman,” she continued. “I’m angry to be put in this situation at all. That because I am a woman, I can work hard my whole life to better myself and help others and yet still fall victim as countless women over generations have. Mostly silently. I hate that some men, like @NYGovCuomo abuse their power.”
Boylan is now speaking out about a potential Cuomo mayor candidacy, saying, “There is no fight I will not take on if this monster thinks he can slime himself into power once again.”
“It already is retraumatuzing (sic),” she said in a post on X. “Frankly it never stopped being traumatizing legally because he never stops abusing. But he didn’t just abuse his women staffers. New Yorkers, Andrew Cuomo abused you too. He abused you with his constant lies, bullying, and self-promotion. For years.”

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, which will interview Cuomo on Tuesday, said Cuomo’s office made “demonstrably false” statements while engaging in a “cover-up,” the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/09/us-news/cuomo-aides-knew-nursing-home-mandate-would-be-great-debacle-helped-gov-edit-report-that-deflated-deaths-house-covid-panel-finds/">reported</a>.
In June 2024, Cuomo blamed federal and state health officials for the nursing home directive. “They [Cuomo and his then-staff] want to assert that that order is exactly the same as the federal CMS, which it is not,” Rep. Marc Molinaro <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/06/11/us-news/cuomo-grilled-by-house-panel-over-nys-covid-nursing-home-deaths-dont-see-a-lot-of-remorse/">said</a>. “The state order says, ‘You shall take back individuals and you cannot deny them solely on the basis of COVID,’ which left them no option but to accept individuals that we knew would cause risk to the other patients.&#8221;
“Andrew Cuomo was attempting to shift blame for what was a clear directive,” Molinaro continued. “When they identified and knew that the order was causing great loss, they subsequently cooked the books to suggest that the numbers of those who died in nursing homes were much less than we knew.”
On March 25, 2020, the New York Department of Health issued an advisory that stated nursing homes had to accept residents returning from hospitals whether or not they had a diagnosis of COVID-19. The <a href="https://skillednursingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2020/03/DOH_COVID19__NHAdmissionsReadmissions__032520_1585166684475_0.pdf">advisory</a> stated:

Residents are deemed appropriate for return to a NH upon a determination by the hospital physician or designee that the resident is medically stable for return.  Hospital discharge planners must confirm to the NH, by telephone, that the resident is medically stable for discharge. Comprehensive discharge instructions must be provided by the hospital prior to the transport of a resident to the NH.
No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the NH solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19. NHs are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.

In the fall of 2020, speaking to Finger Lakes Daily News, Cuomo defended himself from the charge that his policies caused more deaths from COVID in nursing homes, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/10/02/andrew-cuomos-latest-nursing-home-deception/">reported</a>. In response to a question about the issue, Cuomo blamed the federal government, attacked Florida&#8217;s state government, claimed that New York “flattened the curve effectively,” and said, “It just never happened in New York, where we needed to say to a nursing home, ‘We need you to take this person even though they’re COVID positive.&#8217; It never happened.”
New York State has reported &#8220;more than 6,600 nursing home COVID-19 related deaths,&#8221; Finger Lakes Daily News reported, &#8220;but that number is likely much higher since New York does not include residents who initially contracted the virus at a nursing home but died after being transferred to a hospital.&#8221; State Senator Tom O’Mara co-sponsored a bill requiring the Department of Health to provide the accurate death toll from those in nursing homes. &#8220;He said many believe that number could be twice as high,&#8221; the Daily News noted.

The outlet asked Cuomo, “Governor, you said earlier that you lie down at night and you can sleep knowing that you saved lives. What would you say to New York residents who lost their loved ones in nursing homes due to your mandate back in late March regarding sending COVID-positive patients back to nursing homes?”
“Yeah, I would say, first of all, that’s not why they lost a loved one,” Cuomo protested. “Your premise, the premise of your question, is just factually wrong. People who were lost in nursing homes were lost because that’s where the virus preys. The virus preys on senior citizens. The virus was introduced in this country in Washington, state of Washington in a nursing home. That’s who succumb to this virus, are immune-compromised senior citizens, and they’re predominantly located in nursing homes.”
“Number two: you look at the nursing home deaths in this state; do you know what number we are by percentage before you made that statement? We’re number 46 out of 50 states,” Cuomo boasted. “And we had the worst problem, and we’re number 46 in terms of percentage of deaths in nursing homes.”

Cuomo will be questioned publicly for the first time on September 10, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic said in <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/release/breaking-former-new-york-governor-andrew-cuomo-to-testify-at-public-hearing-on-september-10/">a press release</a>. The press release said Cuomo would be questioned “about his Administration’s issuance of unscientific guidance that forced New York nursing homes and long-term care facilities to admit COVID-19 positive patients.”
On March 25, 2020, then-Gov. Cuomo’s office issued a <a href="https://skillednursingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2020/03/DOH_COVID19__NHAdmissionsReadmissions__032520_1585166684475_0.pdf">mandate</a> requiring nursing homes in New York to accept COVID-positive patients on short notice, whether they were equipped to isolate and care for them or not. The policy led to nearly 13,000 nursing home deaths – or about 14% of New York’s pre-pandemic nursing home population, according to a <a href="https://www.empirecenter.org/publications/the-states-revised-nursing-home-death-toll/">report</a> from the Empire Center, a non-partisan think tank.

The Cuomo administration <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nursing-home-deaths-in-new-york-were-massively-undercounted-new-york-ag-finds">undercounted</a> the deaths by including thousands of nursing home patient deaths with hospital deaths since the patients had been transferred to hospitals before they died.
In a thread <a href="https://x.com/COVIDSelect/status/1830914951499690140">posted</a> to X, the subcommittee said that it had privately interviewed Cuomo about his nursing home policies and that he was “shockingly callous when discussing New York’s nursing home mortality rate.”
&#8220;…let&#8217;s say there&#8217;s a 3,000 [deaths] differential, 2500. Who cares? What difference does it make in any dimension to anyone about anything?&#8221; Cuomo reportedly asked, according to the subcommittee, which will be releasing the transcription before the former governor testifies.
Also during that interview, according to the subcommittee, Cuomo claimed he was unaware of the March 25 mandate until a month after it had been issued. He then reportedly claimed that nursing homes had “an escape valve” and were not actually forced to admit COVID-positive patients. He then said his only regret was that nursing homes were “confused” by the mandate, before clarifying that he didn’t “accept the premise that they were actually confused by it.&#8221;
“Andrew Cuomo owes answers to the 15,000 families who lost loved ones in New York’s nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Committee Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH). “On September 10, Americans will have the opportunity to hear directly from the former governor about New York’s potentially fatal nursing home policies.”

That is not what we saw from Mr. Cuomo during his term as governor nor during his transcribed interview. We hope that during his public hearing next week, Mr. Cuomo will stop dodging accountability and honestly answer the American people.”

Former New York Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/andrew-cuomo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Andrew Cuomo</a> (D) said this week that he believes the criminal case and civil case against former President Donald Trump in New York should have never been brought because it was weaponizing the justice system for political reasons.
Cuomo made the remarks during an appearance on HBO&#8217;s &#8220;Real Time&#8221; with liberal comedian and talkshow host Bill Maher.
New York Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump earlier this year to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in the civil fraud case that was brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James while a jury in Manhattan convicted Trump in a criminal trial several weeks ago in a controversial case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
“You know what’s scary about this from my point of view?” Cuomo said. “The trials in New York. There’s Florida, Georgia, and two in New York. The two trials in New York: New Yorkers said, 66% said, the justice system is politicized. And there’s nobody in New York who likes Trump. And still, 66% said the justice system is politicized. That’s why I think he’s not paying the same price for these verdicts because they believe it is political. And you wanna talk about a threat to democracy? When you have this country believing you’re playing politics with the justice system, and you’re trying to put people in jail or convict them for political reasons, then we have a big problem.”
Maher then noted that the fallout from Trump&#8217;s conviction in the criminal trial has led to &#8220;the greatest fundraising bonanza ever&#8221; for Trump.
&#8220;He was lagging behind Biden and now he’s pulled quite a bit ahead,&#8221; Maher said. &#8220;That trial was the greatest reason people had to send their checks for five, 10, 25, whatever dollars to Donald Trump.&#8221;

Sununu made the remarks during a fireside chat at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, when asked by moderator Fred Ryan about how governors can play a bigger role in leading the U.S. forward.
&#8220;Yeah, again, lead by example,&#8221; Sununu said. &#8220;And I think, look, almost all the governors get along. I mean, in my eight years, I can honestly tell you there&#8217;s really only been two, maybe a third, but two real governors that really nobody liked, nobody cared for [them].&#8221;
When asked if he would reveal who the two governors were, Sununu obliged.
&#8220;Yeah, Andrew Cuomo — complete jacka**, no one likes him,&#8221; Sununu responded. &#8220;And I gotta be honest, no one cares for Gavin. Gavin is just a pr*ck, excuse me. He just is, it&#8217;s really disappointing. I got along with him. Former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York</a> Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/andrew-cuomo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Andrew Cuomo</a>, a Democrat who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-andrew-cuomo-to-resign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resigned from office</a> in 2021 amid a sexual misconduct controversy, has been subpoenaed to testify about his handling of nursing homes during the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/covid-19" target="_blank" rel="noopener">COVID</a> pandemic, a GOP-led congressional panel revealed on Tuesday.
The House is compelling Cuomo to appear for a May 24 deposition focused on a mandate Cuomo issued in March of 2020 forcing New York nursing homes and long-term care facilities to admit or re-admit potentially contagious and untested COVID-19 patients, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/release/wenstrup-announces-subpoena-for-former-new-york-governor-andrew-cuomo/#:~:text=WASHINGTON%20%E2%80%94%20Today%2C%20Select%20Subcommittee%20on,deposition%20on%20May%2024%2C%202024." target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement.
&#8220;This order recklessly exposed New York’s most vulnerable population to COVID-19 with deadly consequences,&#8221; the statement said, adding that reporting indicated that more than 15,000 individuals died in New York nursing homes and long-term care facilities during Cuomo&#8217;s administration. &#8220;Evidence also suggests that former Governor Cuomo engaged in a coverup to hide the true New York nursing home mortality rate from the public and shift political blame away from his administration,&#8221; the statement continued.
Cuomo &#8220;implemented nursing home policies that had deadly consequences for New York’s most vulnerable population. Not only did the former Governor put the elderly in harm’s way, but he also attempted to cover-up his failures by hiding the true nursing home death rate. It appears that politics, not medicine, was responsible for these decisions. And that while Mr. Cuomo is adept at seeking legal advice, he is not necessarily adept at seeking medical advice,&#8221; said Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH).
The chairman added that Cuomo &#8220;owes answers to the 15,000 families who lost loved ones in New York nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. His testimony is crucial to uncover the circumstances that led to his misguided policies and for ensuring that fatal mistakes never happen again. It is well past time for Cuomo to stop dodging accountability to Congress and start answering honestly to the American people.&#8221;
Cuomo&#8217;s spokesperson Rich Azzopardi <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/andrew-cuomo-subpoenaed-congressional-subcommittee-investigating-covid-era/story?id=107805055" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told ABC News</a> the subpoena, which was <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/2024.03.05-Subpoena-to-Cuomo.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> by Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY), was &#8220;an obvious press charade&#8221; and insisted that multiple investigations have &#8220;found no there there.&#8221;
In early 2021, after New York Attorney General Letitia James reported that nursing home resident deaths were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nursing-home-deaths-in-new-york-were-massively-undercounted-new-york-ag-finds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“undercounted” by roughly 50%</a>, Cuomo insisted that all deaths in nursing homes and hospitals were &#8220;fully&#8221; reported, but conceded <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/02/15/968199651/new-york-governor-defends-temporarily-withholding-nursing-home-coronavirus-data" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a &#8220;delay&#8221;</a> while his office was busy responding to a multi-state <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/department-justice-requesting-data-governors-states-issued-covid-19-orders-may-have-resulted" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inquiry</a> by the Department of Justice. &#8220;Everyone did the best they could,&#8221; Cuomo also <a href="https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/central-ny/ny-state-of-politics/2021/01/29/cuomo-on-nursing-home-deaths---everyone-did-the-best-they-could--" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Cuomo&#8217;s lawyer Rita Glavin wrote to Wenstrup, according to a <a href="https://www.politico.com/f/?id=0000018e-1005-d469-afbe-d88f0b6a0000" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> published by POLITICO that was dated March 4, urging the chairman to reconsider issuing a subpoena. She said they had provided the subcommittee in a February 21 email four August dates for a transcribed interview, given obligations in other legal matters that have packed their calendars over the next several months.
&#8220;Your staff represented that they would revert back to me the following week, but we never heard back—until today. Specifically, earlier today, staff members asked me to accept electronic service of a subpoena to compel Governor Cuomo’s attendance for testimony. Given Governor Cuomo’s stated willingness to appear voluntarily for a transcribed interview, we ask that you reconsider issuing a subpoena,&#8221; Glavin wrote.
&#8220;To be clear, Governor Cuomo has been and remains cooperative,&#8221; she added. &#8220;In communications with your staff, we offered to provide written answers to &#8216;Questions For the Record&#8217; to the extent the Select Subcommittee needs information from Governor Cuomo prior to his interview. That offer still stands. If the four dates we proposed in August for his interview do not work for the Select Subcommittee, we are willing to discuss alternative dates. I simply ask that we work together to accommodate his legal obligations and my other professional obligations.&#8221;
The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic said on Tuesday that it &#8220;worked in good faith to schedule a voluntary transcribed interview with former Governor Cuomo to discuss his COVID-19 nursing home policies.&#8221;
&#8220;Cuomo has repeatedly and unjustifiably delayed the Select Subcommittee’s investigation by not responding to requests for weeks, ignoring Select Subcommittee staff’s attempts to negotiate interview dates and times, and providing unreasonable availability — nine months after the interview was originally requested. Today’s subpoena has sadly become necessary to uncover the truth about New York’s pandemic-era nursing home policies and deliver the answers Americans demand and New Yorkers deserve,&#8221; the panel added.
