“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/and-just-like-that" target="_blank" rel="noopener">And Just Like That</a>” star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sara Ramírez</a> spoke out against criticisms lobbied at the controversial character Che Diaz on the “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sex-and-the-city" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sex and the City</a>” spinoff show. 
The actor and singer, who formerly starred in “Grey’s Anatomy” and identifies as non-binary, posted a statement on social media in response to a review published on The Cut, which the Instagram post referred to as “The Hack Job.” 
Ramírez admitted to having “been thinking long and hard&#8221; about how to respond to The Cut’s <a href="https://www.thecut.com/article/sara-ramirez-che-diaz-and-just-like-that-profile.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">June profile</a>, which the star said was “‘written by a white gen z non-binary person who asked me serious questions, but expected a comedic response I guess (?).”

“I am not the fictional characters I have played, nor am I responsible for the things that are written for them to say. I am a human being, an artist, an actor,” Ramírez continued in the post.
“We are living in a world that has become increasingly hostile toward anyone who dares to free themselves from the gender binary, or disrupt the mainstream.”
The profile in question was written by Brock Colyar, who also identifies as non-binary.

The lengthy critique said, in part, that Che inspired “eye-rolling from the (mostly younger) queer people I know, who found the character a hyperbolized, hypercringe representation of nonbinary identity.” The writer goes on to ask if the Max show “was just being cheeky and trolling us all about how self-serious we get over the politics of representation on a fizzy sitcom.”
Ramirez responds to the criticism in Colyar’s piece by saying, “Anybody who benefits from patriarchy is going to have a problem with Che Diaz,” and later wrote, “Opinions about whether Che is representing an authentically queer person or not is not for me to answer.”
The “And Just Like That” star also said of the profile, “I trust that those of you who matter, who are not petulant children, who are smart enough to catch on to what was actually going on there, can perceive it for what it is: an attempt to mock my thoughtfulness and softness, while dismissing a valid existence and real human being in favor of tv show critiques that belonged elsewhere.”
“I have a dry sense of humor and a voice. And I am not afraid to use either,” Ramírez said.
Che has divided TV audiences since season one. Ramírez defended the character back then when Che was dubbed &#8220;the indisputable worst character on television&#8221; by The Daily Beast.
“I’m very aware of the hate that exists online, but I have to protect my own mental health and my own artistry,” the star said. “And that’s way more important to me because I’m a real human being. I’m really proud of the representation that we’ve created. We have built a character who is a human being, who is imperfect, who’s complex, who is not here to be liked, who’s not here for anybody’s approval. They’re here to be themselves.”

Controversial performer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Sam Smith</a> just teased an upcoming guest appearance on the popular HBO series “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/and-just-like-that">And Just Like That</a>,” a spinoff of “Sex and the City.”
The British singer posted a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Co-V9iGqUcZ/?hl=en">photo</a> on location in New York City to Instagram, which included the caption: “Up to something unholy on set.” The same image was also shared on the official “And Just Like That” Instagram account.
Smith, 30, has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/literally-a-tribute-to-satan-viewers-slam-demonic-performance-at-the-grammys">making headlines</a> recently following a provocative performance with trans-identifying singer Kim Petras at the Grammys. The performer, who identifies as &#8220;non-binary,&#8221; dressed as Satan, and the segment sparked outrage from viewers for its over-the-top hellish imagery and BDSM themes. 
“I know we on the right probably use the word satanic too often but this performance from Sam Smith is literally a tribute to Satan,” Human Events editor Ben Kew tweeted.
“People like Sam Smith who love to mock Christianity and use Satanic themes always think they’re super edgy artists by doing it,” conservative commentator Robby Starbuck agreed. “In reality it’s not edgy. It’s boring, vile, rehashed shock tactics that Hollywood seals clap for because they’re evil &amp; stupid.”
Petras defended the performance, saying, “I think a lot of people, honestly, have kind of labeled what I stand for and what Sam stands for as religiously not cool.”
“And I personally grew up wondering about religion and wanting to be a part of it, but then slowly realizing it doesn’t want me to be a part of it,” the singer explained. “So it’s a take on not being able to choose religion and not being able to live the way that people might want you to live, because, you know, as a trans person, I’m kind of already not wanted in religion.”
Smith also faced <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/frankly-grotesque-internet-reacts-to-non-binary-singer-sam-smiths-new-sexually-charged-music-video">backlash</a> for the music video accompanying the song “I’m Not Here To Make Friends,” which is featured on the recently-released album “Gloria.” Critics noted that there were no restrictions on the graphically sexual video, meaning young children could easily view it on YouTube.
“And Just Like That” is currently filming its second season for HBO Max. The series had mixed reviews, with viewers on the Left complaining that the social justice activism was contrived and unrealistic. Conservative viewers noted how the show was unapologetically &#8220;woke,&#8221; complete with a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/and-just-like-that-goes-full-woke-with-they-mitzvah-and-trans-rabbi-in-the-finale">trans rabbi</a> hosting a “they-mitzvah” for a gender-confused adolescent.

Despite getting mixed reviews from both fans and critics, “And Just Like That,” the reboot of the popular HBO series “Sex and the City,” is definitely getting a second season, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/hbo-max-renews-and-just-like-that-sex-and-the-city-1235116366/">according to</a> The Hollywood Reporter.
“I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters — played by these powerful, amazing actors,” showrunner Michael Patrick King shared in a statement. “The fact is, we’re all thrilled. And Just like That… our Sex life is back.”
HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey agreed. She said: “We have been delighted by the cultural conversation generated by these characters and their stories, set in a world we already know and love so much. We are proud of the work Michael Patrick King and our wonderful writers, producers, cast and crew have done to bring these stories to the screen. We can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store for season two.”
HBO Max also revealed that the show “delivered the strongest debut of any HBO Max Original Series to date.”
The first season saw the reunion of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), plus many of the secondary characters from the original series, which aired from 1998 to 2004. Actress Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, was notably absent from the ensemble after some rumors of drama between her and Parker.
“And Just Like That” showed a new side of the leading ladies as they were in their 50s, not their 30s anymore. Carrie’s husband Big dies of a heart attack after a vigorous Peloton ride in the first episode, leaving her a widow and eventually navigating dating in the city once again. 
Series creators also placed a huge emphasis on injecting modern issues into the narrative and intentionally adding a more diverse cast of characters to counterbalance the three white leading ladies. Sara Ramirez plays Che Diaz, a non-binary comedian and podcaster. Miranda begins an extramarital affair with Che, a storyline that many fans hated because it felt so out of character for her. The same was said of Miranda’s choice to leave her comfortable job to become a civil rights activist.
Hobbes defended Miranda’s decision to make huge, questionable changes in her life. “I feel like what Miranda does [on And Just Like That…] is incredibly brave,” the actress said during a recent interview with <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/cynthia-nixon-the-gilded-age-interview">Vogue</a>.
“She gives up her very lucrative corporate job and goes back to try and make something more of her life. As Miranda says: We’re not old, we’re 55. I mean, you’re certainly closer to the end than to the beginning. But if you’re not happy with where you are, you still have a lot of time to make a change.”

Fans tuned in to the “Sex and the City” reboot, “And Just Like That,” either expecting it to be a comforting dose of nostalgia or a colossal failure like the second “SATC” movie. But even the most optimistic fan had to assume that creators would weave in modern elements that can only be described as woke.
They were right about that prediction. “And Just Like That” intentionally focused on diversifying the cast by adding multiple ethnicities to join the three white main characters after receiving criticism for the original version. Showrunners also wrote in a nonbinary character, Che Diaz (Sarah Ramirez), who becomes the love interest of Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) despite the fact that she’s married with a child. 
In November, former “View” co-host Meghan McCain penned a scathing review of the series that echoed what so many other former fans of “Sex and the City” were thinking of the reboot. McCain said in the Daily Mail op-ed that &#8220;wokeness kills everything&#8221; in response to the new show.
Two members of the “And Just Like That” cast responded to McCain’s column during an episode of Andy Cohen’s Sirius XM show Saturday, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/and-just-like-that-cast-responds-to-meghan-mccains-criticism-sex-and-the-city-reboot-was-too-woke">reported</a>. Cynthia Nixon and Nicole Ari Parker said “AJLT” fully honored the original “Sex and the City.”
&#8220;I disagree,&#8221; Nixon told Cohen when he asked her opinion on McCain&#8217;s op-ed. &#8220;The show became so beloved — reruns for all those years. … I feel like people have watched it, and they know it so well, inside and out.&#8221;
&#8220;Because people know it so well, they have enshrined it in nostalgia. But this is a show that has always pushed every kind of boundary. I think that that&#8217;s what&#8217;s so magnificent about the new show — about how many different directions we&#8217;re going with that, and pushing boundaries and shaking people up,&#8221; Nixon continued. &#8220;And most importantly, shaking the characters up.&#8221;
&#8220;We don&#8217;t want to see these characters … comfortable. We want to see them out of their comfort zones.”
Nixon’s character Miranda received some of the harshest criticism on the series. Fans felt like she was behaving erratically, which didn’t match up with the pragmatic, hard-working lawyer from the original series who always had to talk sense into her impulsive best friend Carrie. The old Miranda would never abandon her responsibilities for a fling.
Meanwhile, Parker was a new addition to the cast, playing Charlotte’s friend Lisa Todd Wexley. She agreed with Nixon’s assessment of McCain’s column. 
&#8220;Comments like that say more about the person saying them,&#8221; she told Cohen.

&#8220;Carrie now plays the part of the &#8216;cisgender woman&#8217; on a podcast with younger co-hosts. One of them is — of course — queer and nonbinary. Because it&#8217;s so boring and un-evolved to be a straight white woman,&#8221; she wrote.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t know who to blame: the writers of the show or this particularly stupid and repressive time we are living in. Now entire plotlines are dedicated to microaggressions,&#8221; McCain added.
McCain summed up her feelings on “Sex and the City” going full woke.
&#8220;Wokeness kills everything and I am disappointed to tell you that ‘And Just Like That’ is another victim of Hollywood trying to placate a specific audience and not the original one, which made it a hit in the first place.&#8221;

‘And Just Like That’ Cast Responds To Meghan McCain Calling ‘Sex And The City’ Reboot Too Woke

There was no chance that the “Sex and the City” reboot could be anything but woke. Even back in 1998 when the HBO comedy premiered, it pushed to be as progressive as possible, though many details are considered highly offensive by today’s standards.
The “SATC” reboot “And Just Like That” premiered in 2021 which meant there had to be at least one LGBT-focused storyline included to make it culturally relevant. Writers did the series one better and included two: first, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) leaves her husband Steve to pursue a relationship with the self-described “queer non-binary Mexican-Irish diva” podcaster Che Diaz (Sarah Ramirez). Next, Charlotte York Goldenblatt’s (Kristin Davis) daughter Rose (Alexa Swinton) decides she isn’t a girl anymore.
It became obvious early in the season that Rose’s storyline was heading in that direction. First, Charlotte’s daughter said she doesn’t “feel like a girl,” then Charlotte awkwardly finds out that everyone at school has been calling the child “Rock” instead of “Rose.” 
Charlotte turns to her <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/shes-a-kid-ignore-it-sex-and-the-city-spinoff-gives-charlottes-daughter-trans-storyline-but-anthony-has-a-surprising-reaction">gay best friend Anthony</a> for advice. Surprisingly, he advocates ignoring Rose/Rock and letting her figure it out with minimal supervision and zero hormone blockers. The trans kid angle takes a backseat to other drama until the zany series finale, which was lackluster except for an over-the-top attempt to make a trans-questioning child feel accepted.
Charlotte converted to Judaism to marry her husband, Harry Goldenblatt, and the family has been raising their children Jewish as well. Since Rose is 13, the family had been planning a Bat Mitzvah, which is a milestone event in their faith. However, due to Rose’s questioning and adoption of they/them pronouns, the Goldenblatts decide to host a “They-Mitzvah” as a nod to the child’s gender fluidity. 
The whole thing gets exponentially more outlandish as the episode continues. The Goldenblatts supply rainbow-themed kippahs and decorations for the party. They also hire the transgender Rabbi Jen (played by real-life Jewish transgender performer Hari Nef) after saying several others “quit.” 
“Who better to lead a they-mitzvah than a trans rabbi?” Charlotte excitedly shares. “It’s bashert (destiny)!”
The event is held in a ballroom rather than in a synagogue. Despite the child’s parents going above and beyond to accommodate Rock/Rose, eventually she refuses to participate in the mitzvah. 
“I’m not doing it. I don’t believe in it,” Rose tells her parents. “I don’t want to be labeled as anything. Not as a girl. Or a boy. Or Nonbinary. A Jew. A Christian. Muslim. Or even…a New Yorker!”
This last admission appears to be the most shocking of all for her parents.
Charlotte first laments that she’s “failed as a mom” and as a Jew. But then in her typical glass half full way, she decides to make the best of the bad situation.
“This is not over!” Charlotte tells her family. “There are 300 people, 130 challahs, a rainbow chai and a trans rabbi. I did not come all this way and do all this work to have it end like this. Someone is going out there and getting they mitzvahed, today!”
Instead of Rose, Charlotte completes the prayers in front of gathered guests with trans Rabbi Jen leading the way. The whole event is celebrated as joyous and exciting while Rose suffers no consequences for behaving like a spoiled brat.
There’s a good chance “And Just Like That” will be renewed for season 2, meaning we’ve only seen the beginning of Rose’s story.

‘And Just Like That’ Goes Full Woke With ‘They-Mitzvah’ And Trans Rabbi In The Finale

There’s been a ton of criticism lobbed at the “Sex and the City” (&#8220;SATC&#8221;) reboot slash sequel, “And Just Like That” (&#8220;AJLT&#8221;). Many viewers claim the new version is trying way too hard to fit in with modern times. But according to actress Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes on the series, these updates were essential.
The original “SATC” premiered in 1998 and ended in 2004. The series was initially heralded as progressive, but critics looking back say there are multiple instances of homophobia, discrimination, cultural appropriation, and slut shaming, just to name a few. The series was edgy at the time. However, “SATC” wouldn’t be classified as anywhere near woke by today’s standards.
One of the biggest issues is the lack of diversity. “AJLT” producers were eager to rectify this issue, and Nixon said that’s a major reason she agreed to the project. She discussed some of her thoughts during an episode of &#8220;The Drew Barrymore Show&#8221; this week, The Daily Mail <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-10444857/Cynthia-Nixon-says-important-fix-wrong-Sex-City.html">reported</a>.
“If you revisit something that was such a big part of your life and so iconic,” Nixon told Barrymore in response to a question about deciding to sign on for the sequel. “I mean it’s a big step but also it seemed to me we are very different people now, we are very different ages now.”
She continued, “We were in our early 30’s when we started, we are 55, 56 now. And the world is very different. I wanted to be sure, and I think we all wanted to be sure that when we went back we could save a lot of what was great about the original and fix what was maybe not so great.”
Next, the actress addressed the issue of racial representation.
“Like the fact that it was such an overwhelmingly white show. That we would really open up the door and invite these new characters in and really do right by them so we could get great actors and actresses to play them.”
“AJLT” is missing the fourth member of their group after actress Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in the original version, decided not to participate. But in Cattrall’s place, the producers added a bevy of secondary characters who are all intentionally non-white.
Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker), Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury), Dr. Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman) and Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) each serve as friends and even lovers for Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte. Miranda has also been exploring a sexual relationship with the non-binary character Che. This comes as a real disappointment to fans of her husband Steve (David Eigenberh), especially now that the characters are heading toward divorce.
Fans aren’t upset that Miranda is experimenting with sexuality; that’s always been a theme of the show. They’re more disappointed that she would cheat on her husband plus lie about it with Che, which are both actions that don’t fit with Miranda’s personality. 
Some critics are saying “AJLT” is trying to inject too many woke themes into the series to make people love them, which is mostly backfiring.

Anyone who expected the ‘Sex and the City’ sequel series “And Just Like That” to be anything but woke clearly hasn’t been paying attention. Every TV show and movie released recently include nods to the modern progressive agenda. And the “Sex and the City” follow-up is no exception.
In just the first two episodes, audiences are introduced to a “queer non-binary Mexican-Irish diva” podcaster named Che (Sarah Ramirez) and hear Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/and-just-like-that-turns-miranda-into-kendi-quoting-anti-racist-in-sex-and-the-city-sequel-series">quoting Ibram X. Kendi</a> to prove how enlightened she is. But it’s the introduction of a trans storyline for a child that really takes “And Just Like That” to the next level.
Fans accurately predicted where the story was headed when Charlotte Goldenblatt’s (Kristin Davis) daughter Rose (Alexa Swinton) rebelled against wearing a feminine floral dress to her sister’s piano recital in the first episode. Their suspicions that 12-year-old Rose was experiencing gender confusion were confirmed in episode 3, “When in Rome.”
The storyline officially kicks off when Charlotte is lying on Rose’s bed, reading her a book.
“Baby girl, I’m falling off the bed here!” Charlotte tells her daughter.
“I hate it when you call me that,” Rose replies.
After Charlotte explains how the little girl will always be her baby, Rose says that she takes issue with being called a girl, not with the word baby.
“I don’t feel like a girl,” Rose confesses.
“Oh. Well… sometimes I don’t feel like a girl either!” Charlotte exclaims, asking for confirmation of the same from Lily. But Rose doubles down.
“I never feel like a girl,” the pre-teen tells her mom.
Later in the episode, Charlotte asks for advice from her good friend Anthony (Mario Cantone). It’s clear that Charlotte is very shaken by her daughter’s admission, but Anthony has a surprising response.
“She’s a kid. Ignore it,” Anthony advises Charlotte. 
But Charlotte protests, saying “everyone” says this topic can’t be ignored.
“Well, f*** everyone! When she was six, she told you she was a dog. Is she a dog now? No,” Anthony says.
“Well I can’t just ignore this,” Charlotte says. “And when she was six, I put down a bowl of water on the floor for a week.”
“You’re too indulgent,” he scoffs.
“So you don’t think that this is something?” Charlotte persists.
“Well, who knows?” Anthony replies. “When I was little, I wanted to be Tinkerbell. Did my mother cut holes in my school blazer for my wings? No!”
The audience surely hasn’t seen the last of this storyline. Swinton talked to <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1313595/and-just-like-that-star-alexa-swinton-talks-about-groundbreaking-role-in-satc-franchise">E News</a> about portraying a potentially trans-pre-teen and how “glad” she is to be contributing to the conversation.
&#8220;I think it&#8217;s part of the journey of finding out who you are as a teenager,&#8221; Swinton told E News, &#8220;and I think you&#8217;ll see exactly what comes to Rose and what comes to the family. As you go further through the show you&#8217;ll understand what it happens. I think it&#8217;s more about finding out who Rose is rather than having a clarifying thing. It&#8217;s more like finding out who she is specifically.&#8221;
She continued, &#8220;It shouldn&#8217;t just be that they&#8217;re a girly girl or a tomboy&#8230;.Maybe they&#8217;re not a girl, even though they were assigned female at birth. It&#8217;s, I think, an important topic and I&#8217;m glad that I get to be representing it.&#8221;
