80s rock star Nancy Wilson of the band Heart is facing backlash after she recently compared being an American to how it was during the Vietnam War, saying it’s “more embarrassing now.”
During an interview earlier this month, the “Barracuda” rocker talked about the early days in the group while discussing the band’s huge hit “Crazy on You,” which came out in 1975, <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/entertainment/music/2025/03/18/hearts-nancy-wilson-on-hanging-with-chappell-roan-anns-health-more/82267300007/">Milwaukee Journal Sentinel</a> reported.
“We were kind of embarrassed at that time to call ourselves American because of the dirty politics of the Vietnam War,” Wilson said.
“To be as subtle as possible,” she added. &#8220;It’s more embarrassing now.”
Later in the interview, the rocker said the group’s 1977 hit “Barracuda&#8221; was even “more relevant in the salacious billionaire culture with the grab-them-by-the-p***y mentality.”

It was a clear reference to comments President Donald Trump made during an interview in 2005, more than a decade before he ran for office.
“I think for women in the culture the pendulum will come back again, and there’ll be another renaissance in the arts to push back against the oppression of the cranky old rich white guys,” Wilson said. “I hope I am alive to see that next revolution.&#8221;
Later, the comments from the interview surfaced on social media — and resulted in many people blasting Wilson for slamming America, the <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/03/24/entertainment/hearts-nancy-wilson-says-its-more-embarrassing-than-ever-to-be-american/">New York Post</a> noted.
“Says the millionaire who made TONS of dough playing music,” <a href="https://x.com/yea_karen53/status/1904241909834408324">one user on X </a>wrote. “I just can’t with these people right now.”
Another person wrote, “The b***h is welcome to find a more suitable country for her needs. I’m willing to wager on the makeup of the country should she be a woman of her convictions.”
While a third person wrote, “Stop playing 80’s Heart music and it’s not as embarrassing.”
Another person added, “It’s embarrassing to be a Heart fan now.”
Others suggested that if the singer from Heart doesn’t like it here, no one is asking her to stay.
“Then leave you won’t be missed,” one social media user wrote.
Another added, “Move I guess.”

Marvel star Anthony Mackie talked about raising his sons in America amid what he decried was the “death of the American male,” and said that he feels &#8220;American masculinity&#8221; is truly vital for boys. 
During the 46-year-old actor’s appearance on the “Pivot” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqFfX0A8UAc">podcast</a>, the “Captain America: Brave New World” star said he is raising his boys to be men and that he&#8217;s taught his sons to still hold the door open for a lady and to take care of their mom. Mackie shares four sons with ex-wife Sheletta Chapital, the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lifestyle/lifestyle-news/anthony-mackie-is-raising-sons-through-american-males-death-1236162890/">Hollywood Reporter</a> noted.
“So, it is just that thing of in the past 20 years, we’ve been living through the death of the American male,” <a href="https://x.com/thepivot/status/1899868306586132752">Mackie told the hosts</a>. “They have literally killed masculinity in our homes, in our communities for one reason or another. Today, every American, whether Democrat, independent, or Republican, ought to pray for President Trump’s success, because then you are praying for the success of the United States of America.
That doesn&#8217;t mean you have to agree with all his policies. It doesn&#8217;t mean you have to agree with everything he does. I&#8217;m not going to agree with everything he does.
But it does mean that for the sake of the country, I hope and pray President Trump will be precisely the kind of president that America needs: a president who relies on common sense; a president who does not just seek momentary victories, but also seeks long-term victories; a president who restructures the systems that need restructuring; and cleans out the deadwood in need of cleaning out.
I think President Trump takes all of that seriously; he seems to already be taking on the task before him. It is a very serious approach. It is a moment of optimism, but it also is a moment of determination. 
The Republicans need to hit the ground running. They need to get to work on the one-bill strategy. They need to make the Trump tax cuts permanent and to loosen regulations dramatically.
They need to fire an enormous number of people in the executive branch. They need to restore our nation&#8217;s border and deport illegal immigrants, particularly criminal illegal immigrants. They need to restore the semblance of sanity in a country that completely lost its sanity under Joe Biden.
The stakes are really high because America doesn&#8217;t get opportunities like this particularly often.
It is very rare to get a second bite at the apple. I think there has been a lot of despair. In 2020, I was one of the people who felt that despair when Joe Biden took the White House. You get a second chance so rarely, but the American people are getting a second chance with President Trump.

My prayers today are with President Trump, with the members of his excellent cabinet, with the members of his administration, with the members of his family. President Trump has pledged a big agenda — a big, robust agenda — and some of it&#8217;s going to start taking place today.
But it&#8217;s not just going to require the efforts of President Trump, because the country doesn&#8217;t rise and fall on one man. It rises and falls on the American people and their elected representatives. That means members of Congress need to help push forward the Trump agenda in pragmatic fashion. It means the Senate needs to push forward President Trump&#8217;s agenda in pragmatic fashion.
Yes, there will be give and take, and push back, and no bill is going to be perfect. I hope that conservatives get more out of these bills than members of the Left do. That&#8217;s my hope.
But for us, the American people, this is our opportunity. This is our opportunity to thrive. It&#8217;s an opportunity for merit to take the floor once again. Freedom is being restored. Free speech is being restored; free markets are being restored.
Take this opportunity to go to church. Take this opportunity to get in touch with your neighbors. Take this opportunity to recapitulate what made America great in the first place. Things like free minds, free speech, community values, and rule of law. Those are the things we should all be praying for under the incoming Trump administration.
This is our opportunity. The excitement is here.

“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">Superman</a>” director James Gunn compared the image of the DC hero, bruised and bloodied, to the United States of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/america">America</a>.
He made the statements when the new trailer was released last Thursday. “We do have a battered Superman in the beginning. That is our country,” Gunn said during a press conference. 
“I believe in the goodness of human beings, and I believe that most people in this country, despite their ideological beliefs, their politics, are doing their best to get by and be good people — despite what it may seem like to the other side, no matter what that other side might be,” he continued. “This movie is about that. It’s about the basic kindness of human beings, and that it can be seen as uncool and under siege [by] some of the darker voices are some of the louder voices.”
“I’m excited for people to get to see the essence of what we’re doing because it really has been like this private secret that we’ve all been hoarding,” Gunn told <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/trailers/superman-trailer-krypto-green-lantern-hawkgirl-james-gunn-1236254384/">Variety</a> of the upcoming film, which is slated for release on July 11.
“We felt really good about it, like from a moral place, even from the beginning. We all felt like we were doing something good, both in terms of quality and in terms of actually something that’s not a fascistic power fantasy.”
“I’m not saying that about other hero movies in general. But it felt good to be doing something that was about a person’s kindness,” he added.
The trailer is getting a lot of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/first-trailer-for-superman-finally-drops-and-fans-are-very-excited">good reception</a> online. It’s an action-packed ride that only includes one line of dialogue when Superman (David Corenswet) says to his dog Krypto, “Home. Take me home.” It features snippets of scenes with several other characters all set against the backdrop of “The Superman Theme” by John Murphy, which is a &#8220;<a href="https://www.dc.com/blog/2024/12/20/all-the-amazing-things-we-found-in-the-superman-teaser">modern day reimagining</a>&#8221; of John Williams&#8217; original music from 1978.

“Superhero movies have taken these characters and said, ‘Okay, it’s Batman [or] it’s Superman, but it’s not any of the other stuff,’” Gunn said. “We’re embracing all of the Superman mythology. He has friends who are other superheroes. He has people he doesn’t get along as well with who are other superheroes. He has a lot of the things that we love from the Superman comics that we haven’t been able to see as much of in filmed media, and definitely haven’t been able to see in a grounded way, which is what I hope we’ve created.”
Gunn didn’t get into specifics on politics during the press conference, but he has spoken critically about president-elect Donald Trump in the past.

Ah, the sweet triumph of victory. 
It’s a beautiful time for democracy, for freedom, and for America. On Tuesday, November 5, the people gave a decisive “hell no” to the Democrats despite their control of the media, the entertainment industry, academia, and major corporations. We came together as a nation to beat back the force of wokeism that was poised to destroy what so many of our ancestors died to build and protect. 
Some have referred to these election results as the revenge of the normies – those “garbage” folks who just want to get back to normal American life free from crippling inflation, open borders, and radical left-wing gender theory. Good news everyone – we did it. Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States in a landslide victory.
“Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason,” president-elect Trump told supporters during his victory speech Tuesday night. “And that reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness.”
The fight is far from over, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate this enormous win right now. 
“Donald Trump is the man built for these times. Built for them. And built damned tough,” Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro <a href="https://x.com/benshapiro/status/1854013067111149932" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shared</a> on X Tuesday night. 
World leaders reacted in a variety of ways to the news. 
Israel&#8217;s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu <a href="https://x.com/netanyahu/status/1854070348926328965" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described</a> Trump&#8217;s win as &#8220;historic&#8221; and called it one of &#8220;history&#8217;s greatest comebacks&#8221; that would provide &#8220;a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.&#8221;
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy <a href="https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/1854073411904938032" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> he appreciated Trump’s ‘peace through strength’ approach to governing and claimed he looked forward to “personally congratulating” the new president.
Even more inspiring was the reaction from young patriots across the country, electing to “Fire” Kamala Harris and emulate Trump’s signature dance.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Celebrity</a> reactions continue to be over-the-top after President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a>’s big win on Tuesday. Many of these A-listers have previously threatened to leave the country if he won, which could leave fans to wonder if they’ll make good on those promises.
A source said actress America Ferrera is reportedly “sick” over the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/2024-election">election results</a> and said she has plans to move to the United Kingdom, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hollywood-star-promises-shes-leaving-u-s-with-trump-victory">reported</a>.
Their insider said she intended to move with her husband, Ryan Piers Williams, and their two kids.
“America is sick that Donald Trump is President again,” a source close to the actress told The Daily Mail. “She is devastated that Kamala lost. She thought the country she lived in was better than that.”
She’s not the only one. The singer Cher said she was planning to leave as well. &#8220;I almost got an ulcer the last time. If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave [the country],&#8221; the 78-year-old recording artist <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2023/oct/18/cher-interview-christmas-album">told</a> The Guardian last year.
Barbra Streisand <a href="https://www.salon.com/2023/11/15/barbra-streisand-says-she-cant-live-in-this-country-if-donald-wins-the-presidency/">told</a> late-night host Stephen Colbert last year that she couldn&#8217;t &#8220;live in this country if he becomes president.” She was also thinking about Europe as an alternative option, saying, “I like England.”
However, there’s a good chance Streisand won’t follow through on that promise. The singer said the same thing ahead of Trump’s win in 2016, telling Australian journalist Michael Usher, “I’m either coming to your country, if you’ll let me in, or Canada.” She wound up doing neither.

Sharon Stone previously said she was considering relocating to Europe if Trump won. &#8220;I am certainly considering a house in Italy,&#8221; Stone <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13674371/ALISON-BOSHOFF-Sharon-Stone-pledges-leave-USA-Donald-Trump-elected-President-November.html">told</a> the Daily Mail in July. &#8220;I think that’s an intelligent construct at this time. This is one of the first times in my life that I’ve actually seen anyone running for office on a platform of hate and oppression.&#8221;
“The View” host Whoopi Goldberg also said she was considering a move if Trump won ahead of the 2016 election. &#8220;Maybe it&#8217;s time for me to move, you know. I can afford to go,&#8221; she said at the time. In May of this year, the president-elect <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/112432104858669303">replied</a> to a clip posted on Truth Social of Goldberg&#8217;s 2016 comment and wrote, &#8220;Canada doesn&#8217;t want you Whoopi, NOBODY DOES!!!&#8221;
Later, Goldberg tried to <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-whoopi-goldberg-canada-social-media-meme-election-1899730">clarify</a> her statements, claiming she never threatened to leave. “A lot of folks have said they were leaving over the course of these last couple years if Trump got elected. And, once again, people assume that that&#8217;s what I [said],&#8221; the daytime TV host said, claiming she was &#8220;incorrectly lumped&#8221; in with that group.
Goldberg then read the transcript of herself saying, “Maybe it’s time for me to move,” as proof that she never threatened to move.
There are some stars who already left. Actress Minnie Driver, who lived in Los Angeles for decades, said she returned to the U.K. and wasn’t planning to come back. 
“If I lived in a red [Republican] state, no, I couldn’t,” she said of returning to the U.S. during an <a href="https://www.thetimes.com/culture/tv-radio/article/minnie-driver-interview-sexism-misogyny-hollywood-harassment-l2t8mfhl7">interview</a> in July.
“But living in California, you are somewhat insulated. But do you want to go and live in a bubble? Do you run away from the fire or do you go back and help?”
Driver also expressed disdain for Trump&#8217;s supporters, saying she was upset by “the revelation of the 70 million people who really quite like a bit of a racist attitude and non-existent immigration policies and dismantling the environmental agencies. And they were always there; they weren’t created by him. He’s just a symptom, and now they’ve got a mascot.”

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/country-music">Country music</a> artist Hardy shared some strong words for people who criticize <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/america">America</a>.
Videos of the 34-year-old musician started circulating on social media following a performance over the weekend in Knoxville, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tennessee">Tennessee</a>. The “Truck Bed” singer opened for Morgan Wallen during the two-day set that included Eric Church, Darius Rucker, and Miranda Lambert.
Hardy introduced his song “God’s Country,” which he co-wrote with Blake Shelton, by discussing his feelings about his homeland and those who hate being here.
“Especially this year with all the crazy sh** going on, I see a lot of people posting and talking sh** about living in the United States of America and being a United States citizen,” Hardy began. “And to that I say, ‘f*** you,’” he continued as the crowd erupted into cheers and applause.

A rap artist who goes by the name <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rapper-macklemore-talks-about-being-sober-following-pandemic-relapse" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Macklemore</a> was slammed on social media after encouraging others in the crowd at his concert in Seattle to chant “F**k America.”
In a clip that surfaced on <a href="https://x.com/EndWokeness/status/1837704621822714322">X</a> over the weekend from his concert, the 41-year-old rapper-born Benjamin Hammond Haggerty appeared to react to something he heard in the crowd, telling his fans, “Straight up say it, I’m not gonna stop you. I’m not gonna stop you. Yeah, f**k America,” <a href="https://www.billboard.com/music/rb-hip-hop/macklemore-hinds-hall-2-f-america-chant-seattle-show-1235781597/">Billboard magazine</a> reported.
The crowd then begins to cheer, yell, and clap loudly for the performer, before he debuted a new track titled “Hinds Hall 2,” which contains anti-Semitic rhetoric, in which he blasts Israel for defending itself following the deadly October 7 attack that left more than 1,200 dead and hundreds kidnapped.
It came during a music event in Washington titled, “Palestine Will Live Forever Festival.” The description of the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Macklemore/">event</a> said, “All funds raised will be split between: Pious Projects, HEAL Palestine, UNRWA, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, and grassroots mutual aid.”

Reaction to the video was swift with people blasting the rapper’s comments.
One person <a href="https://x.com/Sassafrass_84/status/1837705105652511121">wrote</a>, “If you hate this country, then get [the f] out. Go find one that represents your ideals. American doesn&#8217;t want or need your trash here.”
Another <a href="https://x.com/Bubblebathgirl/status/1837708439453106237">added</a>, &#8220;Hey<a href="https://x.com/macklemore"> @macklemore</a>, since you hate America so much why don’t you leave? Thanks.”
While a third wrote, “Shame. This country made Macklemore possible. Where else could he have got rich and famous?? Shame.”
The rapper has been vocally anti-Israel, even dropping an earlier version of his song “Hinds Hall” in May which blasts the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas following the terrorist attack on October 7. The song references the many anti-Israel protests on college campuses that were happening at the time, <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13880077/macklemore-leads-anti-America-chant-charity-concert-Seattle-benefit-Palestinian-refugees.html">Daily Mail</a> noted.
In the song he called out President Joe Biden and raps, “&#8217;The blood is on your hands Biden, we can see it all. And f**k no, I&#8217;m not voting for you in the fall.”
Last year at another anti-Israel rally in Washington, D.C., Macklemore took the stage and told the crowd, “I don&#8217;t know enough, but I know enough that this is a genocide,” the outlet noted.

Actor Russell Crowe told podcaster <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-rogan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Rogan</a> that America is a “beacon of freedom” for the rest of the world, which comes with a “huge responsibility.” 
Crowe, who is from New Zealand, appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=embQ1r9udaI">podcast</a> on Tuesday and discussed his recent move back to the United States.
“Flying into New York the other day and it&#8217;s a palpable difference in the way you know people regard each other and the way they talk,&#8221; Crowe said. “But there&#8217;s a fear in everybody at the moment here and I&#8217;m just not sure where that&#8217;s going to go.&#8221; 
“Doesn&#8217;t feel healthy.”

Rogan agreed, saying, “Yeah, it doesn&#8217;t feel healthy for me either.”

“Here’s the thing with America, right?” the actor explained. “You&#8217;ve got to remember that it is the beacon of freedom for everybody in the world.&#8221;

I want to live like that where people can say what&#8217;s on their mind and people can have differing opinions.’&#8221;

Rogan simply replied, “Agreed,” and thanked the “Gladiator” star for coming on his show.
Crowe thanked Rogan for being a voice that “accepts different opinions” and “doesn&#8217;t push a particular agenda.”

A significantly higher percentage of Republicans say they are &#8220;extremely proud&#8221; to be American compared to Democrats and independents, according to <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/646655/american-pride-remains-near-record-low.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survey</a> results released just two days before Independence Day.
The Gallup poll, which surveyed U.S. adults from June 3-23, shows that 59% of Republicans say they are &#8220;extremely proud&#8221; of their national identity, which remains near record-low numbers. Only 34% of Democrats and 36% of independents said the same, which is up slightly from last year for both demographics, according to Gallup.
The gap between Republicans and Democrats in expressing pride in America has closed in the past five years. Republicans&#8217; pride in their country has dropped from 76% to 59%, while Democrats&#8217; pride in America has risen from 22% in 2019 to 34% in 2024. The Gallup results show that that gap began to close toward the end of former President Donald Trump&#8217;s term in office and throughout President Joe Biden&#8217;s first term.

Gallup&#8217;s latest survey results show a stark contrast in how Republicans, Democrats, and independents felt about being American 20 years ago. In 2004, 82% of Republicans, 65% of independents, and 60% of Democrats said they were &#8220;extremely proud&#8221; to be American. Republicans have maintained a higher sense of pride in their national identity than Democrats and independents since the turn of the century.
&#8220;Americans’ national pride was highest after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, when patriotism surged in the U.S.,&#8221; Gallup wrote. &#8220;Extreme pride has been trending downward since 2015.&#8221;
&#8220;While the percentage of U.S. adults who say they are extremely proud to be American is near the lowest point on record, about two-thirds continue to be at least very proud,&#8221; Gallup added. &#8220;Republicans’ national pride, though near its lowest point, remains high compared with Democrats’ and independents’, although all party groups are significantly less proud than they were 20 years ago.&#8221;
According to the survey, 18% of U.S. adults say they are &#8220;moderately proud&#8221; to be American, 10% say they are &#8220;only a little&#8221; proud, and 5% say they are &#8220;not at all&#8221; proud.
Another Gallup <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/646643/june-economic-confidence-stable-low.aspx?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=o_social&amp;utm_term=gallup&amp;utm_campaign=x-news-eci_070324" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survey</a> taken over the same time period showed that Americans have an overall negative view of the current economic conditions. Forty-eight percent of respondents said economic conditions in the U.S. are &#8220;poor,&#8221; 28% said they are &#8220;only fair,&#8221; and only 25% said they are &#8220;excellent/good.&#8221; Nearly 70% of Americans said they believe the economy is &#8220;getting worse,&#8221; and 26% said it&#8217;s &#8220;getting better.&#8221;
