The AMC networks have attached a trigger warning to the classic mafia movie “Goodfellas.” The warning reads — and as God is my witness, I am not making this up — “This film includes language and/or cultural stereotypes that are inconsistent with today’s standards of inclusion and tolerance and may offend some viewers.”
Apparently, AMC was concerned the violent antics of Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci would offend those viewers who wish to include and tolerate Italian Americans so Italian Americans won’t set their restaurant on fire and empty a thirty-eight into their face before burying their bullet-riddled body in the Jersey Pine Barrens.
Now, some people may feel that putting a trigger warning on Martin Scorsese’s greatest film is an idea so stupid it must have been dreamed up by some dribble-faced DEI hire who can’t tell the difference between sensitivity and a whoopee cushion. But AMC defended the action in a statement issued by Paul Dribbleface, Vice President in charge of Sensitivity or Whoopee Cushions, like, Whichever.
The Dribbleface statement reads, “Me are putting warning words on moving picture story to show watching peoples AMC be sensitivity-like toward Italian Americans so Italian Americans don’t kill us because they is all gangsters.”

The statement goes on to say that AMC will be adding appropriate trigger warnings to other classic movies as well. 
For instance, Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List” will now come with a warning that reads, “This film depicts virulent antisemitism followed by the mass slaughter of Jews as if that were a bad thing, and may therefore offend students at Harvard University.”
The 1939 classic Wizard of Oz will come with a warning that reads “This film depicts dwarves as absolutely adorable little creatures who sing in hilarious high pitch voices and wear gaily colored clothes while prancing happily around a skipping girl, which may offend those dwarves who are still bitter about the fact that Snow White treated them like de-sexualized children but was perfectly willing to put out for the first tall guy who came riding up out of nowhere and kissed her without her consent.”
The Humphrey Bogart perennial “Casablanca” will begin with a notice that warns viewers, “This film depicts Americans sacrificing their personal happiness to defeat a threat to world peace and freedom and is inconsistent with today’s American standards of total selfishness masquerading as political courage — or resistance or some other damn thing — when it’s really just a bunch of ill-educated adolescent ding-dongs risking absolutely nothing while hiding behind masks and screaming at people.”
And, of course, the American epic “Gone With the Wind” will now include the warning, “This film may trigger MeToo victims because it includes a depiction of a woman using sex to get what she wants and then not complaining about it or blaming someone else. Also, we’re not totally sure black people were really quite this happy about being slaves.”
With some films, AMC plans to simply edit out any offensive material that might cause viewer discomfort. For example, the scene in “Goldfinger” where Sean Connery smacks a girl on the backside and tells her to run along has been deleted so it won’t upset feminists by reminding them that getting smacked on the backside by Sean Connery is actually one of their life goals. The scene in “Dracula” where the vampire bites a scantily clad girl on the throat will be deleted because most of the AMC audience is the same age as Dracula, and we don’t want to give them any ideas.
By attaching trigger warnings to classic movies and editing out offensive scenes, executives at AMC are hoping to cement their reputation as the dumbest group of human beings who can still manage to dress themselves without falling over. That way, when people finally realize there’s no longer any point in watching movies interrupted by commercials, they might still send a few dollars to the AMC staff out of pity, realizing anyone idiotic enough to put a trigger warning on great old movies is unlikely to be able to find another job after their moronic network vanishes up the fundament of its own stupidity.

The upcoming action movie “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">Deadpool &amp; Wolverine</a>” is off to a promising start after breaking the record for pre-release ticket sales for an R-rated film.
“Some 200,000 movie fans have bought their <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/amc">AMC</a> tickets already. This is more Day 1 ticket sales at AMC than for any other R-rated movie ever,” AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron <a href="https://x.com/CEOAdam/status/1793173235380437118">wrote</a> on X. The online movie ticket site <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">Fandango</a> also reported a huge number of pre-sales, per <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/deadpool-wolverine-record-r-rated-ticket-sales-1235906223/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>.
While neither AMC nor Fandango provided hard numbers, the outlet noted that ticket sales so far likely earned the film between $8 and $9 million. These figures set the record for ticket pre-sales for a film that’s rated R and are the best so far for the “Deadpool” franchise.
This film represents the third installment in the franchise. THR noted that the original “Deadpool” (2016) brought in $132.4 million during its opening while “Deadpool 2” (2018) earned $125 million. Industry insiders expect the large pre-sale numbers to indicate the new film&#8217;s debut will cross the $100 million mark like its predecessors.
“Deadpool &amp; Wolverine” stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the leading roles.
Per the <a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6263850/">IMDb</a> description, &#8220;Wolverine is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the loudmouth, Deadpool. They team up to defeat a common enemy.&#8221;

This will be the first R-rated movie ever released by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marvel">Marvel</a> and Disney, according to THR. It hits theaters on July 26.
Jackman discussed how he decided to commit to the role despite thinking he was “done” playing Wolverine after the character was killed off in “Logan” (2017).
“I was on my way, I was just driving, and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan [Reynolds],” Jackman <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/news/hugh-jackman-joined-deadpool-3-without-telling-agent-wolverine-1236012974/">said</a>, per Variety. 
“For Deadpool and Wolverine to come back together. I swear to you, when I said I was done, I really thought I was done. But in the back of my head, ever since I saw ‘Deadpool 1,&#8217; I was like, ‘Those two characters together.’ I knew it, I knew the fans wanted it ever since I put on the claws, people talked about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew.”
The actor continued, “And I literally couldn’t wait to arrive. Soon as I arrived, I rang Ryan. And I just said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Like, I hadn’t rung my agent, no one. I had to ring my agent and said, ‘Oh, by the way, I have just committed to a movie.&#8217;”

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/amc">AMC</a> is being mocked for placing a “cultural stereotypes” warning on the classic 1990 Martin Scorsese mobster <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">drama</a>, “Goodfellas.”
Anyone tuning in to the film on the streaming service AMC+ sees the following message before the movie begins: “This film includes language and/or cultural stereotypes that are inconsistent with today’s standards of inclusion and tolerance and may offend some viewers.”
AMC provided <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/05/18/us-news/amc-slaps-goodfellas-with-trigger-warning-for-offensive-content-that-includes-cultural-stereotypes/">The New York Post</a> with a statement about the warning.
The company said they started adding this content warning four years ago. “In 2020, we began adding advisories in front of certain films that include racial or cultural references that some viewers might find offensive,” a rep for AMC wrote.
Several individuals weighed in on the warning. 
Michael Franzese, a former captain of the Colombo crime family, told the outlet he didn’t agree with adding the warning. “We don’t need anyone protecting <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mafia">mob guys</a>,” he told the Post. “It’s crazy.”
Former NYPD officer Bo Dietl, who played a police officer in “Goodfellas,” also disagreed with the messaging. 
“The f***ing political correctness has f***ing taken everything away. This is how life was back then. It was not a clean beautiful thing. You can’t cleanse history. If you want to tell true history, you gotta tell it the way it is,” he told the outlet.
Fans noted that similar films streaming on AMC+, including “The Godfather,” did not include the same warning. That popular movie about the mob only has the more common and generic “viewer discretion” language that mentions “brief nudity, strong language, and intense violence.”
“Goodfellas” is considered one of the best mob movies ever made. Actor Joe Pesci received an Academy Award for his portrayal of the gangster Tommy DeVito. The film also features Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Paul Sorvino.  
The United States Library of Congress classified the film “culturally significant” and added it to the National Film Registry in 2000.
Other studios are also adding content warnings to older movies. For example, Disney added disclaimers to classic films on its streaming service to warn viewers that some scenes contain “negative depictions” and “mistreatment of people or cultures.”
Classic films that had warnings added include “Dumbo” (1941), “Peter Pan” (1953), “Swiss Family Robinson” (1960), and “The Aristocats” (1970), as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disney-adds-warnings-for-racist-content-to-peter-pan-dumbo-other-classic-films">reported</a>.

The studio behind the hit film &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sound-of-freedom-takes-top-spot-at-box-office-on-fourth-of-july" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sound of Freedom</a>&#8221; said Thursday that rumors of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/amc-theatres-cancels-de-transitioner-film-following-trans-groups-de-platforming-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AMC Theatres</a> trying to sabotage the movie are unfounded.
Videos online have gone viral insinuating AMC made it intentionally difficult for people to view &#8220;Sound of Freedom,&#8221; which deals with the horrors of human trafficking. In one <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tiktok" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TikTok</a> post, for example, a woman says her tickets were refunded without notice, and she was suspicious when the theater told her the refund was due to air conditioning issues.
“We understand there are rumors — predominantly in social media — that AMC theaters have made it difficult for fans to see SOUND of FREEDOM in local AMC theaters, and we want to make it clear these rumors are not accurate,” Brandon Purdie, Head of Angel Theatrical Distribution, said in a press release sent to The Daily Wire.
Purdie said AMC &#8220;has been an outstanding partner for Angel Studios,&#8221; adding that AMC has actually agreed to add additional screens for &#8220;Sound of Freedom&#8221; this coming weekend due to the film&#8217;s stellar performance.
“Angel Studios and the producers of SOUND OF FREEDOM are asking our fans to support AMC, and all of our other theatrical partners,&#8221; the executive added. &#8220;Summer is the busiest season for people working in theaters, so we ask that anyone attending a screening of SOUND OF FREEDOM show kindness to their local theater staff. We have the best movie fans in the business. Let’s continue to show theaters the love that Angel supporters are known for.”
In the first eight days of its release, &#8220;Sound of Freedom&#8221; earned more than $45 million at the domestic box office, according to <a href="https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl4254237441/?ref_=bo_hm_rd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Box Office Mojo</a>. It also earned a coveted A+ CinemaScore, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sound-of-freedom-dominates-box-office-in-florida-texas-and-arizona" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> noted.

She suggests the move from AMC is suspicious.
Mainstream and left-wing media outlets have trashed &#8220;Sound of Freedom,&#8221; suggesting it panders to far-right audiences and conspiracy theorists. Notably, some of those same outlets have <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/dec/23/child-sex-trafficking-rife-colombia-cartagena" target="_blank" rel="noopener">covered</a> child sex trafficking in places like <a class="Ui2TZ WCMfob oRJe3d" role="link" data-ti="overview" data-ved="2ahUKEwjL6r_xrI6AAxWJHjQIHU6jDPMQnZMFegQIVRAC">Colombia</a> in the past.
&#8220;We preordered our tickets, paid for them,&#8221; the woman says in the video. &#8220;At some point today, our tickets got refunded to my friend.&#8221; She said the theater told her, &#8220;We refunded all the tickets because there&#8217;s no air conditioning in our theaters.&#8221;

AMC Theatres abruptly canceled a film showcasing the voices of young people who have de-<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/transgender" target="_blank" rel="noopener">transitioned</a> after having hormone therapy and surgeries to purportedly &#8220;affirm&#8221; their &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/gender" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gender identity</a>.&#8221;
&#8220;<a href="https://nowaybackfilm.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">No Way Back: The Reality of Gender-Affirming Care</a>&#8221; was set for initial release on June 21 in dozens of theaters across the country. Producers of the film say AMC caved to the pressure of a de-platforming campaign by a transgender group called the Queer Trans Project, which has not had access to view the full film.
The Daily Wire reached out to AMC Theatres about the cancellation but did not receive a response.
&#8220;The &#8216;QT Project’s&#8217; inference of detransitioning as &#8216;conversion therapy&#8217; is a weak, underhanded attempt to conflate detransitioning with that despicable and sometimes devastating practice of the past,&#8221; said a statement from Deplorable Films, the distributor of &#8220;No Way Back.&#8221; &#8220;It might be worth noting here that [there&#8217;s] an infamously repressive theocracy on the other side of the globe where ‘gender-affirming’ surgery is the only option given to gay men and women, who may otherwise be executed under law.&#8221;
The distribution company added, &#8220;Perhaps they are on the payroll of those who profit from this – so much of what they are doing is resulting in the creation of life-long surgical and pharmaceutical patients are doing so to great benefit of certain surgical clinics and pharmaceutical companies.&#8221;
&#8220;It is quite evident that those undertaking this crusade against this film have not had the courtesy of seeing it before taking such extreme actions to silence it,&#8221; Deplorable Films added.
Along with medical professionals, the film features five young people who have de-transitioned. One person in the film, a 26-year-old man named Abel, spoke to The Daily Wire about his transition to female as a teenager and then his de-transition.
“I would tell anyone who wants to transition, especially the young boys who think life would be easier because they are the perfect image of a masculine male, that the transition will not save them,&#8221; Abel told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;It would actually destroy their lives. Actually, take a step back and think about this for a while,” he continued. “And even if that is what they think they want— the actual negative side effects, nobody will tell you.”
A young woman named Laura, who appears in &#8220;No Way Back,&#8221; told The Daily Wire she took a high dose of testosterone and removed her healthy breasts by way of a double mastectomy before de-transitioning at 22 years old.
“I&#8217;m a very vocal advocate of complete bans for transition procedures for minors, both medical and social, because children are not developed,&#8221; Laura said. &#8220;They do not have the brains or bodies to be able to make long-term decisions about their reproductive and sexual health, and they just are not able to consent to these long-term procedures.”
The Queer Trans project, though, claims the film is &#8220;anti-trans&#8221; and &#8220;perpetuates harmful misinformation.&#8221; The group campaigned for allies to send its sample letter to AMC with the goal of de-platforming &#8220;No Way Back.&#8221;
&#8220;I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to the decision to screen No Way Back: The Reality of Gender-Affirming Care, an anti-trans film that perpetuates harmful misinformation,&#8221; the Queer Trans Project&#8217;s letter reads, <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/exclusive-producers-of-no-way-back-the-reality-of-gender-affirming-care-speak-out-after-amc-theaters-cancels-film-screenings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Post Millennial. &#8220;It is disheartening to see a respected institution like AMC Theaters provide a platform for content that further stigmatizes and marginalizes the transgender community. Regardless of the timing, this film&#8217;s screening goes against the values of inclusivity and respect that should be upheld by a company committed to providing diverse and meaningful entertainment. I implore you to reconsider this decision immediately and demonstrate your commitment to supporting a more inclusive and accepting society. Please remove the film from your lineup and help ensure that AMC Theaters remains a safe and inclusive space for all moviegoers.&#8221;
The group then celebrated the de-platforming when news hit of its ouster this weekend. &#8220;We did it! Our community&#8217;s swift action is a testament to the power of advocacy and the importance of raising our voices against harmful content,&#8221; the group said. &#8220;Your collective efforts have made a significant impact, and the decision to pull No Way Back from AMC theaters is a step towards fostering a more inclusive and respectful environment. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to creating positive change.&#8221;
Controversial Democratic state Senator Scott Wiener of California also went after AMC for initially platforming &#8220;No Way Back.&#8221;

A site for the film describes &#8220;No Way Back&#8221; as a 90-minute documentary that &#8220;cites 45 peer-reviewed medical and journalist articles&#8221; and hears from five de-transitioners.

Many critics, including celebrities, are weighing in on the new <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/amc">AMC Theatres</a> pricing structure which would charge more for better seats at the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">movies</a>.
“The Lord of the Rings” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">actor</a> Elijah Wood recently commented on the situation, saying he believed charging more for preferable locations was unfair to individuals with less discretionary income.
“The movie theater is and always has been a sacred democratic space for all,&#8221; Wood <a href="https://twitter.com/elijahwood/status/1622724743995719681">tweeted</a>. &#8220;This new initiative by AMC Theatres would essentially penalize people for lower income and reward for higher income.&#8221;
Actor Seth Green agreed. He <a href="https://twitter.com/SethGreen/status/1622989629703229440">wrote</a> of the new pricing structure, “This is absurdly stupid &amp; only creates unnecessary classism. [AMCTheatres] clearly focused on squeezing new profits anywhere possible. Trying to get people back into theaters? Don’t penalize folks with less to spend.”
AMC&#8217;s new Sightline program will be implemented at certain theaters in New York, Chicago, and Kansas City on Friday. The company is planning to roll out the initiative nationwide throughout 2023.
Ticket prices will be split into three tiers: Preferred Sightline, which includes the most expensive and popular middle seats; Value Sightline, which are offered for a cheaper price for wheelchair-accessible seating and the front row; and Standard Sightline, which covers all other seats in the theater. 
AMC Stubs A-List loyalty program members won&#8217;t be charged extra for Preferred Sightline seating, plus they’ll get a discount on Value Sightline seating. The new pricing initiative won’t affect Discount Tuesdays, where all seats are $5.
Many social media users were outraged over the new pricing structure. However, others pointed out that AMC is following standards previously established in similar industries. 
“Wait till you hear about broadway theatres, concert venues, and just about every entertainment hall,” one person <a href="https://twitter.com/BNoble4Life/status/1622946024472956928">replied</a> to Wood’s tweet. “What they’re doing isn’t anything new.”
“Sightline at AMC more closely aligns AMC’s seat pricing approach to that of many other entertainment venues, offering experienced-based pricing and another way for moviegoers to find value at the movies,” Eliot Hamlisch, executive VP and CMO at AMC Theatres, said of the change, per <a href="https://variety.com/2023/film/news/amc-theaters-movie-ticket-price-seat-location-1235514262/">Variety</a>. 
“While every seat at AMC delivers an amazing moviegoing experience, we know there are some moviegoers who prioritize their specific seat and others who prioritize value moviegoing. Sightline at AMC accommodates both sentiments to help ensure that our guests have more control over their experience, so that every trip to an AMC is a great one.”

After two long years of waiting, “Better Call Saul” fans will finally see the triumphant return of the drama series as the sixth and final season kicks off tonight. 
Some fans of the “Breaking Bad” prequel will have already re-watched the fifth season or the entire series in anticipation of the premiere. It would make sense, considering the season 5 finale aired in April 2020, which feels like a lifetime ago.
For anyone who doesn’t have that kind of time, there are a few key elements to remember before watching the first two episodes of season 6, which will both air back-to-back on AMC beginning at 9 p.m. Monday.
The official “Better Call Saul” YouTube channel published a 15-minute recap to catch everyone up on the most important events from Season 5. In it, fans watch as Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) explains to Kim Wexler why he’s taking on the Saul Goodman persona going forward. Ignacio “Nacho” Varga breaks the news to Jimmy/Saul that “When you’re in, you’re in” after the lawyer helped with a favor for the cartel. This is the beginning of a downward spiral that will end with Jimmy putting the “criminal” in criminal lawyer.

Later, Howard Hamlin of HHM insults Jimmy by offering him a job at the law firm his older brother Chuck helped found. Jimmy gives his response by lobbing a bowling ball at Howard’s Jaguar. Gus Fring saves Mike Ehrmantraut’s life and enlists him as a “soldier,” saying they both operate with the same goal in mind: revenge. In Fring’s case, he’s trying to get back at the Salamanca family, while maintaining the pretense of being business partners all working for the same drug cartel.
Kim and Jimmy seem like they’re going to break up following the debacle with Mesa Verde Bank and Everett Acker, but then they get married instead. Then Kim and Jimmy decide to hatch a plot to take down Howard with Kim taking the reins.
Nacho betrays Lalo at the behest of Fring in a coup at his hacienda. Lalo escapes, figures out it was Nacho who left the gate open to let the hitmen in, and walks away furious. The recap ends with a reminder about the flash-forward scenes to a post-&#8220;Breaking Bad&#8221; world where Saul is managing a Cinnabon in Omaha while hiding from his mortal enemies. But while there, someone recognizes him and makes him say the famous line, “Better call Saul.”
The final season of the award-winning drama is composed of 13 episodes split into 7 and 6, with the first half airing April-May and the second portion premiering in July. “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan is back to work on the final season alongside co-creator Peter Gould. During a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-bad-duo-walter-white-and-jesse-pinkman-will-appear-in-better-call-saul-season-6">recent panel discussion</a>, Gould confirmed that Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) will be making cameos in the final season.

The CEO of AMC Theaters bashed Warner Bros Pictures Group on Thursday after the media organization announced that it would be diverging from industry practice by concurrently releasing its slate of 2021 films on HBO Max and in U.S. movie theaters.
&#8220;Clearly, Warner Media intends to sacrifice a considerable portion of the profitability of its movie studio division, and that of its production partners and filmmakers, to subsidize its HBO Max startup,&#8221; said AMC CEO Adam Aron in a statement, reports <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/12/amc-responds-to-hbo-max-warner-bros-theatrical-model-2021-suicide-squad-matrix-4-dune-1234650125/">Deadline</a>. &#8220;As for AMC, we will do all in our power to ensure that Warner does not do so at our expense. We will aggressively pursue economic terms that preserve our business.&#8221;
Aron, who said AMC was currently in discussions with Warner Media over the decision, showed optimism about the movie industry, saying people “soon will be able once again to delight in coming to our theaters without any worry — viewing the world’s best movies safely in our big seats, with our big sound and on our big screens.”
As The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/warner-bros-to-release-all-2021-films-on-hbo-max-in-theaters-simultaneously-11607020941">noted</a>, however, Warner Pictures’ decision sent a signal across the industry that the future of entertainment is “in the living room,” not theaters.
“We’re living in unprecedented times which call for creative solutions, including this new initiative for the Warner Bros. Pictures Group,” Ann Sarnoff, the CEO of WarnerMedia Studios, said in a statement announcing the development Thursday. “No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do. We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theaters in the U.S. will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021.”
Under the new model, HBO Max will stream Warner Media’s 2021 films for one month beginning the day theaters start showing them. Such films include “Dune,” “The Suicide Squad,” “Matrix 4,” and “Mortal Kombat,” among over a dozen others.
“With this unique one-year plan, we can support our partners in exhibition with a steady pipeline of world-class films, while also giving moviegoers who may not have access to theaters or aren’t quite ready to go back to the movies the chance to see our amazing 2021 films. We see it as a win-win for film lovers and exhibitors, and we’re extremely grateful to our filmmaking partners for working with us on this innovative response to these circumstances,” said Sarnoff.
Earlier this year, AMC protested Universal Pictures after the group suggested they would <a href="http://dailywire.com/news/universal-pictures-reveals-new-streaming-plans-amc-theaters-responds-with-boycott">experiment with dual format releases</a> upon the success of doing so with “Trolls World Tour,” which reportedly raised nearly $100 million in direct streaming over three weeks.
“Effectively immediately AMC will no longer play any Universal movies in any of our theatres in the United States, Europe or the Middle East,” said Aron in a statement to Universal. “This policy affects any and all Universal movies per se, goes into effect today and as our theatres reopen, and is not some hollow or ill-considered threat.”
AMC and Universal struck a deal several months later in which Universal agreed to provide the theater chain with a 17-day theatrical release window before allowing its films to be streamed, reports <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/28/amc-strikes-historic-deal-with-universal-shortening-number-of-days-films-need-to-run-in-theaters-before-going-digital.html">CNBC</a>.

Amid growing concerns over the spread of the coronavirus, and in recognition of the local mandates that have recently been put into effect pertaining to large gatherings, several movie theaters in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York have made the decision to go dark.
“Cinemas shutting down in Pennsylvania&#8217;s Montgomery County and Bergen County in New Jersey include 10 AMC locations and a handful of Regal sites,” according to <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/us-movie-theaters-close-parts-pennsylvania-new-jersey-coronavirus-outbreak-1284714">The Hollywood Reporter</a>.
These closures were easy to confirm via the AMC app. When selecting theaters, places like AMC Garden State and AMC Newport Centre display a message that reads: “We have temporarily closed this theater in accordance with the directive from local authorities. Please check back for updates.”

Alamo Drafthouse locations in New York City have also been closed. A <a href="https://drafthouse.com/news/our-brooklyn-and-yonkers-locations-are-closed">message</a> on their website reads: “Until further notice, we are deeply sad to say that Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn and Yonkers are closed.”
The notification adds that tickets will be refunded, and billing for season pass memberships will be suspended.
THR <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/us-movie-theaters-close-parts-pennsylvania-new-jersey-coronavirus-outbreak-1284714">adds</a> that “other movie theaters closed in New York include &#8230; BAM, Film Society at Lincoln Center, Nitehawk Cinema, IFC Center, Metrograph and Film Forum.”
While some theaters are closing, others are taking exceptional cautionary measures, such as cutting seating capacity <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/amc-cut-seating-capacity-by-all-us-theaters-1284554">by half</a> in order to distance customers from each other, and even <a href="https://www.ksl.com/article/46730270/movie-theaters-adding-efforts-to-help-mitigate-covid-19-outbreak">sanitizing seats</a> after each showing.
In the wake of the coronavirus, the movie industry has been smacked. Over the last two weeks, five major films have been pulled from their upcoming opening weekends, including Disney’s “Mulan,” Universal’s “Fast 9,” Paramount’s “A Quiet Place Part II,” and Universal’s “No Time to Die.”
The box office has also suffered a massive blow. <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/ticket-sales-dive-box-office-lowest-turnout-20-69607041">ABC News</a> reports that “ticket sales plunged to their lowest levels in at least 20 years at North American movie theaters as the coronavirus pandemic led to one of Hollywood&#8217;s worst weekends at the box office.”
This weekend, currently released films raked in a combined $56 million at the domestic box office, according to studio estimates, the lowest since <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/ticket-sales-dive-box-office-lowest-turnout-20-69607041">September 2000</a>. With no new tentpole films in sight, and the potential for more theater closings, the box office for the next several weeks will likely look even worse.
The next major film still holding onto its scheduled release date is Marvel’s “Black Widow,” which is set to debut on May 1.
The coronavirus, which originated in China’s Hubei province, has infected more than 158,000 people worldwide, resulting in more than 6,000 deaths, according to <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/coronavirus-map-confirmed-cases-2020-n1120686">NBC News</a>, which cites data from its own reports, “World Health Organization, state government leaders, and health officials.”
In the United States, there have been 3,510 confirmed cases, and 67 deaths.
On Friday, President Trump declared a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-trump-unleashes-full-power-of-u-s-government-to-fight-coronavirus">national emergency</a> to help combat the virus, and during a Saturday press conference, the president and vice president noted the possibility of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/president-trump-considering-domestic-travel-restrictions-amid-coronavirus-concerns">restricted domestic travel</a> when asked by a reporter.
Multiple events have been cancelled or postponed, destinations shuttered, and even <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/following-louisiana-georgia-postpones-democratic-primary-amid-coronavirus-concerns">primary elections rescheduled</a> in an effort to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
