Hollywood star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/al-pacino" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Al Pacino</a> has revealed in his new memoir that one of his most famous roles — Michael Corleone in “The Godfather” — almost didn’t happen.
In the 84-year-old’s new book “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Sonny-Boy-Memoir-Al-Pacino/dp/0593655117" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sonny Boy</a>,” Pacino said if it wasn’t for director Francis Ford Coppola’s belief in him to nail the role of the mob boss’ son he would’ve been let go from the project when others were less impressed with his work, <a href="https://pagesix.com/2024/10/15/celebrity-news/al-pacino-was-almost-fired-from-iconic-godfather-role/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Page Six</a> reported.
Pacino wrote in the book about a meeting he had with Coppola when the studio was upset about his performance once filming started.
“You know how much you mean to me,” the director said, according to Pacino’s book. “How much faith I had in you. Well, you’re not cutting it.”
The director showed the actor footage and the two agreed there wasn’t “anything spectacular here.”
Pacino admitted he had been underplaying the part because he wanted the power of Michael to appear to shock the audience.

“My idea was that this guy comes out of nowhere,” the “Serpico” star wrote. “That was the power of this characterization. That was the only way this could work: the emergence of this person, the discovery of his capacity and his potential.”
Because Coppola believed Pacino was the right actor for the role, the director decided to shoot one of the most iconic scenes in the movie, the restaurant shooting the next day, where Corleone’s character shows he can become the head of the family and do what was needed.
Pacino wrote that Coppola moved up the filming of the scene “to give the doubters back in Hollywood some incentive to believe in me and keep me in the picture.”
After 15 hours of shooting, Pacino’s portrayal of his character’s double murder did the trick with the studio, and silenced any further doubt that he wasn’t the right guy for the job.
“They knew I was going through a difficult time, feeling like I had the world on my shoulders, knowing that any day the axe could fall on me … Sterling [Hayden] and Al Lettieri helped keep up my morale; they set a one and were role models for me,” Pacino wrote in the book about the two stars he shared the scene with.
“Because of that scene I just performed, they kept me in the film,” he added.
The “Scarface” star admitted he went to the premiere in 1974 but ditched out of the theater because he &#8220;didn’t want to see the finished product. &#8220;As soon as the lights went out, I went out.”
The Hollywood star admitted that he never watched the film until recently, when he went to the screening for its 50th anniversary in 2022.

The 84-year-old Academy Award winner discussed the incident during a recent interview with <a href="https://people.com/al-pacino-had-no-pulse-after-contracting-covid-19-during-pandemic-exclusive-8723931">People</a> to promote his upcoming memoir, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">Sonny Boy</a>.” 
&#8220;I thought I experienced death. I might not have. I don&#8217;t think I have, really. I know I made it,&#8221; Pacino told the outlet.
He continued. &#8220;I don&#8217;t think I died. Everybody thought I was dead. How could I be dead? If I was dead, I fainted,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And when I opened my eyes, there were six paramedics in my living room. There was an ambulance outside the door, and two of my doctors in those space suits [like] on Mars. I looked around and I thought, &#8216;What happened to me?'&#8221;
&#8220;So I couldn&#8217;t have died, because how did all those people gather together, the ambulance in front of my house?&#8221; Pacino said.
The “Scarface” star said his assistant, Michael Quinn, realized what a serious situation Pacino was in and called the ambulance.

&#8220;[Quinn] got the people coming, because the nurse that was taking care of me said, &#8216;I don&#8217;t feel a pulse on this guy,'&#8221; Pacino said. When asked if a brush with death changed his outlook on life, the actor replied, “No, not at all.”
Speaking about the same incident with <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/05/magazine/al-pacino-interview.html">The New York Times</a>, Pacino said, “I didn’t see the white light or anything. There’s nothing there. As Hamlet says, ‘To be or not to be’; ‘The undiscovered country from whose bourn, no traveler returns.’ And he says two words: ‘No more.’ It was no more.”
“You’re gone. I’d never thought about it in my life. But you know actors: It sounds good to say I died once. What is it when there’s no more?”
Pacino made headlines last year for fathering a child with a 29-year-old woman, who later worked out an agreement with the actor to receive $30,000 per month in child support <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/al-pacino-83-will-pay-30k-per-month-in-child-support-share-custody-of-son-report">payments</a>.

&#8220;I was honored to be a part of the evening and chose to follow the way they wished for this award to be presented,&#8221; Pacino added.
The “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hollywood">Scarface</a>” actor was facing heat online from viewers who were confused by his delivery. 
&#8220;My friends! Thank you, thank you,&#8221; he began from the stage on Sunday. &#8220;This is the time for the last award for the evening and it&#8217;s my honor to present it. Ten wonderful films were nominated but only one will take the award for best picture. And I have to go to the envelope for that. And I will…. Here it comes.&#8221;

When the audience didn’t react immediately, Pacino started naming the film&#8217;s producers. “Yes, Emma Thomas, Charles Roven,&#8221; he said.
Previous presenters at Sunday&#8217;s ceremony had done much bigger lead-ups to announcing the winners, highlighting all the nominees and complimenting their performances. The only other category that didn’t include the presenter reading all the nominees before announcing the winner was Best Original Song.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/al-pacino">Al Pacino</a> agreed to pay the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/parents">mother</a> of his young son $30,000 per month in child support payments, according to documents obtained by <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2023/11/02/al-pacino-30000-per-month-child-support-noor-alfallah/">TMZ</a>.
The 83-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">actor</a> shocked fans when it was revealed that he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/father">fathered</a> a son with his 29-year-old girlfriend, Noor Alfallah, in June of this year. Now the pair has worked out a financial arrangement regarding their child, though it’s believed that they are still romantically involved.
The outlet reported that Pacino will begin by paying $110,000 up front and then $30,000 a month in base child support, though that number could fluctuate depending on his income, with that amount increasing by $90,000 at the end of the year. He will also put $15,000 per year in an education fund for their son, Roman.
TMZ also noted that Pacino has been paying $13,000 a month for a night nurse. The “Dog Day Afternoon” actor will also apparently fork over extra money for any medical expenses which aren’t covered by insurance.
Alfallah previously filed a petition in September to determine the parental relationship between herself, Pacino, and the baby, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/al-pacinos-29-year-old-baby-mama-files-for-full-custody-just-3-months-after-giving-birth">reported</a>. The documents allowed for Pacino to have “reasonable visitation” rights with the child but requested full physical custody for Alfallah.

Pacino is believed to have asked for a paternity test, which did confirm the child was his.
