An Al Jazeera cameraman mourned as a journalist killed by Israel was also a Hamas sniper operative, <a href="https://x.com/IDF/status/2068442916977275317">according to the Israel Defense Forces</a>.
Ahmed Washah was killed Saturday in central Gaza after an Israeli drone targeted a home in the Bureij refugee camp. Al Jazeera and multiple media outlets described him as a cameraman for Al Jazeera Mubasher, Al Jazeera’s Arabic-language live channel. Al Jazeera said two other people were also killed and others were wounded.
But the IDF says Washah was not simply a journalist and was targeted in the strike because he was “a terrorist in Hamas’ military wing who served as a sniper operative.” The IDF also said Washah had recently advanced sniper attack plans and worked alongside his brother, Mohammed Washah, whom the military described as a key terrorist in Hamas’ rocket and weapons production headquarters. Ahmed was <a href="https://honestreporting.com/ahmad-washah-hamas-terrorist-who-masqueraded-as-an-al-jazeera-journalist/">reportedly</a> killed alongside Siba’i Abu Hasna, a member of Hamas’ <a href="https://honestreporting.com/ahmad-washah-hamas-terrorist-who-masqueraded-as-an-al-jazeera-journalist/">Shadow Unit</a>, which is responsible for guarding hostages kidnapped into Gaza.
Ahmed was widely presented as an Al Jazeera cameraman killed by Israel. While leaving out his ties to Hamas, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/world/gaza/israeli-airstrike-kills-al-jazeera-cameraman-rcna350990">reported</a> that Ahmed was an Al Jazeera cameraman killed by Israel and noted that his brother Mohammed, an Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent, was killed in a separate Israeli strike in April. Al Jazeera, meanwhile, <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/6/21/kind-principled-palestinian-journalists-remember-slain-gaza-journalist">said</a> Ahmed became the 12th network employee killed by Israel and said he had covered numerous stories for the outlet, including what Al Jazeera described as “several massacres” committed by Israel in Gaza.
The IDF <a href="https://x.com/IDF/status/2068442916977275317">posted</a> publicly that Ahmed “served as an Al Jazeera photojournalist” while simultaneously operating as a Hamas sniper. The IDF also described Mohammed as “a key terrorist in Hamas’ rocket and weapons production headquarters” and said he also operated “under the guise of an Al Jazeera journalist” before he was killed in April.
After the IDF’s claims about Ahmed were challenged online, it <a href="https://x.com/IDF/status/2069422062117003612">posted</a> a photo of his apparent military ID and a video showing him firing a rifle into the air. 
That context has received less attention from the legacy media than the initial description of Ahmed as a journalist killed by Israel. A Google AI Overview shown for a simple search of “Al Jazeera journalist” described Ahmed as “an Al Jazeera cameraman who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza” and listed him among “recent notable and slain journalists from the region.” The summary does not mention the IDF’s claim that he was a Hamas sniper operative.

The same pattern appeared in headlines from major outlets. NBC headlined its article, “<a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/world/gaza/israeli-airstrike-kills-al-jazeera-cameraman-rcna350990">Al Jazeera cameraman killed in Gaza months after his journalist brother died in a separate strike</a>.” The Guardian’s headline read, “<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jun/20/al-jazeera-cameraman-ahmed-wishah-killed-in-israeli-strike-on-gaza">Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed Wishah killed in Israeli strike on Gaza</a>.”
An Associated Press report carried by <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/israeli-army-confirms-journalist-killed-in-gaza-calls-him-hamas-terrorist-11665140/amp/1">NDTV</a> also identified Ahmed as an Al Jazeera cameraman killed in an Israeli strike. The report said the Israeli military asserted that Ahmed had been part of Hamas’ military wing and had posed a threat to troops in the area.
Al Jazeera has denied Israel’s claims about Ahmed, according to NBC News, and condemned his killing, calling it an attempt by Israel to silence and intimidate journalists. NBC also reported that a source close to Hamas told the Committee to Protect Journalists that Ahmed had no affiliation with the organization.
 Prominent anti-Israel figures, including New York City <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/23/us-news/al-jazeera-journalist-that-mamdani-mourned-was-allegedly-hamas-sniper-idf-claims/">Mayor Zohran Mamdani</a>, portrayed Ahmed as a journalist killed by Israel while criticizing the IDF. 
“More than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military since the so-called ceasefire,” Mamdani said Monday. “Even an Al Jazeera journalist, Ahmed Washah, was killed this past Saturday by an Israeli strike.” Mamdani did not mention the IDF’s claim that Washah was a Hamas operative.
The IDF’s claim does not erase reports that Ahmed worked for Al Jazeera. But those reports also do not erase the IDF’s claim that he served in Hamas’ military wing and had recently advanced sniper attack plans against Israeli troops.
Since the first reports described Ahmed as a journalist without including Israel&#8217;s claim that he was also a Hamas sniper, many readers were left with a narrow version of the story. Israel&#8217;s account presents a very different version of the strike than the one circulating online.

The Qatar-based news outlet Al Jazeera coordinates with the terror group Hamas to silence, and often torture, critics and independent media voices in the Gaza Strip.
The Free Press and the Center for Peace Communications <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/watch-gazan-journalists-say-al-jazeera">released</a> the results of an investigation into reporting from Gaza on Tuesday. The investigation includes interviews with journalists in Gaza, as well as expert analysis of reporting out of Gaza by the center’s COO, Michael Nahum.
“You have to be affiliated with Hamas to work at Al-Jazeera. Especially in Gaza, because most jobs go through Hamas. Hamas is the primary authority deciding who gets hired and who doesn&#8217;t. So, the majority of Al-Jazeera staff are an inseparable part of Hamas,” one independent reporter said in an interview. The reporter’s face has been blurred out in a <a href="https://x.com/PeaceComCenter/status/1962925792406450258">video</a> accompanying the report to protect his anonymity.
Independent reporters in Gaza say that Al Jazeera reporters work with Hamas in Gaza to help identify Palestinian critics and journalists who have reported information critical of the terror group. During the two years that Israel has waged war against Hamas in Gaza, Al Jazeera reporters have served as the terror group’s reconnaissance and surveillance because they can move more freely around the strip that Hamas militants.
The report mentions several Al Jazeera reporters who are alleged to work closely, or even for, Hamas while outwardly presenting themselves as journalists for Al Jazeera.
“Mohamed Washah is a journalist with Al-Jazeera and the head of Al Jazeera’s operations in the Gaza Strip. … If you look at his Instagram account, you’d see photos with all the Hamas leaders, just like Anas Al-Sharif,” one anonymous Gazan journalist said, referring to two Al Jazeera reporters.
“Mohamed Washah in Gaza is a member of the Al-Qassam Brigades and works in Hamas’ internal security centers. He conducts investigations, incites, and directs Hamas’ executive security to break people’s limbs, arrest journalists, terrorize them, and slander their reputation,” a Gazan reporter said.
“Mohamed Washah is a journalist with Al-Jazeera and the head of Al Jazeera’s operations in the Gaza Strip. … [But] if you look at his Instagram account, you’d see photos with all the Hamas leaders, just like Anas Al-Sharif.”
“When the [anti-Hamas] protests were going on, Al Jazeera, through it’s journalists under Mohamed Washah’s direction, and with Anas Al-Sharif present, tried to buy the loyalty of people and leading families in the northern Gaza Strip so that these young people or these residents would not protest against Hamas,” a reporter said.
Al Jazeera reporters will lure targets – including those critical of Hamas or reporters that are not directly affiliated with the terror group – to places where Hamas terrorists stay, such as in hospitals. Once the targets are lured into the proper locations, they may be beaten and tortured. One unnamed reporter featured in the video had his legs broken by Hamas.
The Israel Defense Forces have identified reporters with Hamas affiliations. Hamas documents uncovered through the course of the war identified six Al Jazeera reporters who worked with the terror group, according to the Israeli military.
“The IDF has disclosed intelligence information and numerous documents found in Gaza confirming the military affiliation of six Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza with Hamas and the Islamic Jihad terrorist organizations. They are: Anas Jamal Mahmoud Al-Sharif, Alaa Abdul Aziz Muhammad Salama, Hossam Basel Abdul Karim Shabat, Ashraf Sami Ashour Saraj, Ismail Farid Muhammad Abu Omar, and Talal Mahmoud Abdul Rahman Aruki,” the IDF <a href="https://www.idf.il/en/mini-sites/al-jazeera-hamas-connection/">said</a> in a news release.
In another instance showing how closely Al Jazeera journalists work with the terror group, one Al Jazeera writer was <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/06/09/world-news/gaza-journalist-held-3-hostages-in-his-home-with-his-family-israeli-military-says/">found</a> to have held hostages stolen on October 7 in his own home.

Al Jazeera Works With Hamas To Silence, Torture Independent Reporters In Gaza

An Al Jazeera reporter who was killed in an airstrike this week was allegedly a terrorist who participated in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hamas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hamas</a>&#8216; October 7 massacre last year.
Ismail Al-Ghoul and his cameraman were killed in an airstrike while in a car in the al Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza, according to CNN.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israel Securities Authority (ISA) said in a statement that in a joint operation, the Israel Air Force (IAF) &#8220;eliminated Ismail al-Ghoul, a Hamas Military Wing operative and Nukhba terrorist who participated in the October 7th Massacre.&#8221;
&#8220;As part of his role in the military wing, Al-Ghoul instructed other operatives on how to record operations and was actively involved in recording and publicizing attacks against IDF troops,&#8221; the statement said. &#8220;His activities in the field were a vital part of Hamas&#8217; military activity. The IDF and ISA are operating in order to eliminate terrorists who participated in the October 7th Massacre and will continue to do so.&#8221;

CNN said that Al-Ghoul has reported live for most of the day from a location near the home of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed this week inside Iran.
Haniyeh — who celebrated his organization’s unprecedented terrorist attack against Israel on October 7 and who had publicly called for more attacks — was <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/01/world/middleeast/how-hamas-leader-haniyeh-killed-iran-bomb.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">killed</a> by bomb that was covertly smuggled into a guesthouse where he was staying two months before he got there.
The guesthouse was part of a large compound run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in an upscale neighborhood inside&#8217;s Iran&#8217;s capital city of Tehran.

Three of the four Israeli hostages who were rescued of Saturday were found in the home of a Gaza-based journalist who had previously written for Al Jazeera.
The hostages, who were captured by Hamas terrorists during the brutal and unprovoked attacks of October 7, were <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/06/09/world-news/gaza-journalist-held-3-hostages-in-his-home-with-his-family-israeli-military-says/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discovered</a> inside the home of Abdallah Aljamal. Aljamal had written for Al Jazeera as recently as 2019 — although the outlet has said that he was never an employee — and had since been writing for The Palestine Chronicle and serving as spokesman for Gaza&#8217;s Hamas-controlled labor ministry.
An initial report from Ramy Abdu — founder and chairman of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor — claimed that Israeli soldiers had raided Aljamal&#8217;s home and killed him along with several members of his family.
Israel has confirmed that Aljamal was killed in the Saturday special forces raid that rescued hostages Almog Meir Jan, 21, Andri Kozlov, 27, and Shlomi Ziv, 41 — but made no mention of his family.
&#8220;This is further proof that the Hamas terrorist organization uses the civilian population as a human shield,&#8221; the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement after special forces rescued the hostages from Aljamal&#8217;s home in Nuseirat — which was located near a refugee camp.
The fourth hostage who was rescued during Saturday&#8217;s operations was 26-year-old Noa Argamani, who recounted several instances during her eight months in captivity when she believed she was going to die.
When she first arrived in Gaza, after being snatched off the street at the Nova music festival, she said that she expected to be lynched. Sometime later, she recounted seeing a missile land in the house where she was being held.
&#8220;I saw the missile enter the house; I was sure I was going to die,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I thought that was it, but I stayed alive.&#8221;
Finally, the raid that ultimately resulted in her rescue was so chaotic that, for a time, she believed she might not survive it.

The Biden administration lashed out on Monday after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signaled that he will ban Aljazeera, a Qatari government-controlled propaganda channel, from Israel because of the lies it has told about the October 7 terrorist attack and because some of its journalists participated in the attack.
Israeli lawmakers in the Knesset passed a measure 71-10 on Monday giving Netanyahu the power to ban the organization.
&#8220;Al Jazeera harmed Israel&#8217;s security, actively participated in the October 7 massacre, and incited against IDF soldiers,&#8221; Netanyahu posted on X. &#8220;It is time to remove the shofar of Hamas from our country. The terrorist channel Al Jazeera will no longer broadcast from Israel.&#8221;
&#8220;I intend to act immediately in accordance with the new law to stop the channel&#8217;s activity,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I welcome the law promoted by Communications Minister Shlomo Karai with the support of coalition members led by coalition chairman Ofir Katz.&#8221;
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre lashed out at Israel during the White House press briefing on Monday, saying that it was concerning that Israel would ban a propaganda network that is controlled by a country that has <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/terror-watch-its-time-rethink-our-relationship-qatar-opinion-1834604">strong ties</a> to terrorism.
&#8220;At least the reports that we’ve seen — is about Al Jazeera, specifically. But it doesn’t matter, whichever — right? — journalists more broadly,&#8221; she said. &#8220;But if it is true — if it is true, a move like this is concerning. We believe in the freedom of the press. It is critical. It is critically important. And the United States supports the critically important work journalists around the world do. And so — and that includes those who are reporting in — in the conflict in Gaza.&#8221;
&#8220;So, we believe that work is important, the freedom of the press is important,&#8221; she added. &#8220;And if those reports are true, it is concerning to us.&#8221;

National Security Counsel spokesman John Kirby took number of questions about the weekend drone strike that killed three American service-members and wounded more than a dozen — but he became visibly irritated when one reporter asked whether President Joe Biden would weigh public opinion polls when he considered any military response.
The exchange took place during Monday&#8217;s press briefing, not even 48 hours after most Americans learned of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/multiple-u-s-soldiers-killed-dozens-injured-by-iranian-backed-terrorists-in-middle-east" target="_blank" rel="noopener">drone attack</a> in Jordan, near the Syrian border — perpetrated, as many such recent attacks have been — by Iran-backed terrorist groups throughout the region.

&#8220;I suspect the American people are not happy about attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea,&#8221; Kirby countered. &#8220;I also suspect they’re not happy about seeing American troops killed at a base in Jordan. The president has the authority to defend those troops and those facilities, and he’ll do that.&#8221;
Halkett then turned to the political side of things, asking whether the fact that it was an election year might have any impact on Biden&#8217;s decision-making.
&#8220;Is the president looking at his polling when he’s weighing all of these options? Is the president looking at it?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, I guess that’s a heck of a question. He’s not looking. Ma’am, ma’am, ma’am, let me just stop you right there,&#8221; Kirby shot back. The Commander in Chief is not looking at polling or considering the electoral calendar when he’s defending [the American people].&#8221;

Secretary of State Antony Blinken has reportedly asked the Qatari government to rein in Al Jazeera’s coverage of Israel’s war in Gaza — an apparent admission from the Biden administration that the outlet, despite its failure to register as one, is viewed as an agent of Qatar.
The Foreign Agents Registration Act requires any entity that acts on behalf of a foreign entity to foreign principal to influence U.S. public opinion. Analysts say it’s hard to fit the bill more clearly than Al Jazeera — funded entirely by the Qatari government and actively publishing highly trafficked English-language news in the United States.
Yet the Biden administration has done nothing to pressure Al Jazeera to register as a foreign agent, bewildering those who have been pushing for years for the Qatari outlet to file the legally required registration. Now that the Biden administration has telegraphed its determination that Qatar has the power to control Al Jazeera, it’s time for the foreign agent relationship to be made official.
“Al Jazeera consistently pushes the position of the Qatari government, which is often antisemitic, anti-American, and anti-Israel,” said Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) spokesman Darin Miller. “The Qatari government has always insisted they don&#8217;t control Al Jazeera. Sen. Cruz doesn&#8217;t believe that is true, and apparently neither does Sec. Blinken. There is no excuse not to force them to register for FARA.”
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), who authored a letter to Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland in July 2021 regarding Al Jazeera’s failure to register as a foreign agent, says it’s never been more important.
“Israel is fighting an information war as much as a physical one,” Cotton told The Daily Wire. “Biased information can have disastrous consequences — just look at the damage done by the New York Times’ false story about the hospital in Gaza.”
“With the stakes so high, the Biden administration must insist that Al Jazeera finally admit its influence operation,” Cotton said.
Blinken, in his plea to Qatar, said that Al Jazeera’s coverage was “full of anti-Israel incitement,” according to Axios. Israel is slated to bar the outlet from operating in the country after allegations that it was directly aiding the Hamas terrorists, transmitting “sensitive information” about Israeli troop movements to its enemy.
Qatar has come under the microscope for its role in harboring Hamas — the terrorist group&#8217;s leader, Ismail Haniyeh, is based in Doha, Qatar&#8217;s capital city. Despite its ties to the terrorist group, U.S. officials have maintained relations with the oil-rich state. A Daily Wire investigation earlier this year found that Qatar has used an American nonprofit, the Attorney General Alliance, to pay for attorneys general to travel to Doha for meetings with top Qatari officials.
Al Jazeera has been one of the most biased sources of news around Israel’s war against Hamas — the Qatar-based outlet, for example, ran with false allegations that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza, when in reality the explosion was caused by a terrorist rocket. It published videos casting doubt about “Israel’s changing narrative on hospital bombing,” and stated that “investigations reveal discrepancies in Israel’s Gaza hospital attack claims.”
U.S. officials have stated with “high confidence” that Palestinian terrorists were the source of the hospital bombing.
“Al Jazeera has been credibly accused of conducting espionage operations against Qatar&#8217;s perceived enemies in Israel and even in the United States,”Miller, the Cruz spokesman, explained.
Though the outlet’s biased coverage has had massive consequences with war breaking out in the Middle East, it’s advocacy for the foreign policy of Qatar is nothing new. In 2017, the Council on Foreign Relations wrote that Al Jazeera “helps give Qatar influence far greater than what a country of its size could usually expect.”
The Trump administration in one of its final acts ordered a U.S.-based Al Jazeera affiliate to register as a foreign agent, with its Department of Justice arguing that the outlet engages in “political activities” on behalf of Qatar’s government, according to the New York Times.
The foreign agent filing never came through, but the Biden administration has failed to make the outlet face any consequences, according to a group of U.S. Senators that includes Cotton and Cruz.
“Al Jazeera+ has willfully ignored DOJ&#8217;s mandate and has failed to register as a foreign agent,” wrote the senators to Attorney General Merrick Garland in July 2021. “With AJ+&#8217;s refusal to register under FARA, agents of the Qatari government continue to operate in the United States in violation of the law.”
“It is imperative for DOJ to explain what, if any, steps it has taken to enforce the law,” the senators wrote.
The Department of Justice did not respond to a request for comment on Al Jazeera’s foreign agent registration status. Willful violation of FARA is punishable with up to five years in federal prison.

Senators Say It’s Time For Al Jazeera To Register As Foreign Agent Of Qatar

As conservative media continues to grow in popularity and influence, many are trying to capitalize on it, looking to hop on the bandwagon. But conservatives should be wary of the latest Right-wing outlet that&#8217;s popped up: Al Jazeera’s new subsidiary, Rightly.
Rightly says it aims to &#8220;broaden and elevate the political discourse shaping the U.S.&#8221; and claims to be backed by &#8220;one of the most respected media brands in the world.&#8221; Although, Al Jazeera is anything but respectable.
Rightly is a right-wing subsidiary of Al Jazeera, an outlet funded by the Qatari government that has a troubling past of anti-Americanism and antisemitism and has regularly promoted Islamic terrorist propaganda.
In 2008, Al Jazeera <a href="https://www.haaretz.com/1.5011947" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.haaretz.com/1.5011947&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFQEjtSKbYEkcXuMpsE2-Tcztmbzg">threw</a> an on-air birthday party — with cake, music, and fireworks — for a terrorist. The terrorist was recently released from prison for kidnapping an Israeli father and daughter, before <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/opinions/2003/05/18/the-world-should-know-what-he-did-to-my-family/0da7cca5-fd96-4412-82a6-957df703ca3d/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/opinions/2003/05/18/the-world-should-know-what-he-did-to-my-family/0da7cca5-fd96-4412-82a6-957df703ca3d/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEoFvG0qVVjkPWaff8JBzSFF3FheQ">fatally</a> shooting the father and killing the child by smashing the four-year-old’s skull with the butt of his rifle.
Al Jazeera <a href="https://time.com/4896791/al-jazeera-qatar-middle-east-saudi-arabia-crisis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://time.com/4896791/al-jazeera-qatar-middle-east-saudi-arabia-crisis/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFR2zrDl2t8r8k-XCvzKq3H0gE7iQ">continues</a> to allow extremists and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCjgmmdHwUY" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v%3DvCjgmmdHwUY&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEbLp7lvNucpYl1c3r-fidpLiyFLA">members</a> of the U.S. designated terrorist group, Hamas, on its platform. Hamas adores Al Jazeera so much that they <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/hamas-hands-al-jazeera-award-for-highly-professional-coverage-of-gaza-conflict/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.timesofisrael.com/hamas-hands-al-jazeera-award-for-highly-professional-coverage-of-gaza-conflict/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFtHYye_hC-lTVCiHn4Ho4WHQhGuA">honored</a> the platform last month with a certificate for their “highly professional” coverage of the latest Israel-Gaza conflict. There are also <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2017-06-23/the-former-anchor-who-says-al-jazeera-aids-terrorists" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2017-06-23/the-former-anchor-who-says-al-jazeera-aids-terrorists&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEIllj0_dgk3DRgHBmsW9bU_QD3kQ">credible accusations</a> of Al Jazeera working with the Muslim Brotherhood on top of airing a <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/06/23/why-saudi-arabia-hates-al-jazeera-so-much/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/06/23/why-saudi-arabia-hates-al-jazeera-so-much/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH3czngzonN2zgqMc2hF-K2tHfX6Q">show</a> for a spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s important to note that Qatar helps <a href="https://www.counterextremism.com/countries/qatar" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.counterextremism.com/countries/qatar&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH_NzBoQ12RRTcpfAt0gdE3qs8HwA">fund</a> Hamas and allegedly helps fund <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/qatars-finance-of-hezbollah-terrorist-movement-puts-us-troops-at-risk-dossier-claims" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.foxnews.com/world/qatars-finance-of-hezbollah-terrorist-movement-puts-us-troops-at-risk-dossier-claims&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEU-YtrZeFEly9_YWfnbs4fFW4jPA">Hezbollah</a>.
In 2015 after a terrorist attack in Libya, a <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/internal-emails-show-al-jazeera-english-banning-use-terms-terrorist-militant-islamist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/internal-emails-show-al-jazeera-english-banning-use-terms-terrorist-militant-islamist/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGjAUPjaj8hHQZWnsxESiQyvHT_0Q">leaked email</a> surfaced from an Al Jazeera executive who warned his employees to no longer use terms such as “terrorist,” “militants,” or “extremist.” “One person’s terrorist is another person’s freedom fighter,” he wrote to his staff.
On the other hand, Al Jazeera <a href="https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/al-jazeera-promotes-terrorism-social-media-must-deplatform-aj-aj/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/al-jazeera-promotes-terrorism-social-media-must-deplatform-aj-aj/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEfuylBN1zuTv-aGT9tmaVb4a5Mag">routinely</a> calls terrorists “martyrs” and even broadcasts their funerals, which they call “spectacular.”
Al Jazeera has marooned itself as, perhaps, the only publication funded by an <a href="https://carnegieendowment.org/sada/21605" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://carnegieendowment.org/sada/21605&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHblXQCD1I0Hlz_4kNRneu_jwpUSw">Islamic </a>nation that regularly publishes articles friendly to <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/12/1/all-my-love-elliot-juno-actor-page-comes-out-as-transgender" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/12/1/all-my-love-elliot-juno-actor-page-comes-out-as-transgender&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEGNhknifxq24DJb3pwtd_bCuSE3Q">transgenderism</a>, <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2021/4/30/africas-lgbtq-communities-need-more-protection-and-support" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2021/4/30/africas-lgbtq-communities-need-more-protection-and-support&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNELH6rRec5duXsNxLwl5O3xRbsiZQ">LGBTQ+</a> causes, and “<a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2021/3/2/human-rights-defenders-continue-to-be-killed-with-impunity" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2021/3/2/human-rights-defenders-continue-to-be-killed-with-impunity&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH1R-2coWORMqhpBYiwIEipGHNdQg">racial justice</a>.” But let’s not forget that in Qatar, homosexuality can be punishable by prison time or even <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2016/06/13/here-are-the-10-countries-where-homosexuality-may-be-punished-by-death-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2016/06/13/here-are-the-10-countries-where-homosexuality-may-be-punished-by-death-2/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEL4hmCAdoDoiYKeCXXWCL9DPRf6g">death</a> for Muslims.
In 2018, Al Jazeera was credibly <a href="https://freebeacon.com/national-security/qatar-backed-spy-operation-u-s-jews-puts-al-jazeera-congressional-crosshairs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://freebeacon.com/national-security/qatar-backed-spy-operation-u-s-jews-puts-al-jazeera-congressional-crosshairs/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGJMTdMNj4wDnSoDjOcmXFLdgLlvA">accused of spying</a> on Jewish Americans, causing Congress to launch an <a href="https://freebeacon.com/national-security/al-jazeera-spy-operation-u-s-jews-sparks-congressional-investigation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://freebeacon.com/national-security/al-jazeera-spy-operation-u-s-jews-sparks-congressional-investigation/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHT3F75uSIU8A02VQ2-TgX4d0RD4Q">investigation</a>. According to the Washington Free Beacon, Al Jazeera “conducted a months-long spy operation on a slew of American and pro-Israel officials” for a documentary “on supposed Jewish influence in the U.S. government.” And in 2019, Al Jazeera’s AJ+ published a Holocaust-denying video that <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/al-jazeera-suspends-journalists-over-holocaust-denial-video-suggesting-zionist-blew-it-out-of-proportion" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/al-jazeera-suspends-journalists-over-holocaust-denial-video-suggesting-zionist-blew-it-out-of-proportion&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHj1jd4zr_UlBLsSu74DBQ-f8_Oig">claimed</a> the “Zionist movement” blew it “out of proportion.&#8221;
To make matters even worse, Al Jazeera’s subsidiary, AJ+, was <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/doj-orders-al-jazeera-plus-to-register-as-a-foreign-agent-of-qatar" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/doj-orders-al-jazeera-plus-to-register-as-a-foreign-agent-of-qatar&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFiOf7ZVipiucxfDZrUUV7kWo2m0A">ordered</a> by the Department of Justice to register as a foreign agent last year for “acting at the direction and control” of the Qatari government.
The DOJ cited the Foreign Agents Registration Act, claiming that AJ+ “has engaged and is still engaged in political activities within the United States and has acted and continues to act as a publicity agent within the United States, on behalf of the Government of Qatar and Al Jazeera Media Network.” As of March, Al Jazeera has <a href="https://www.axios.com/doj-enforce-al-jazeera-foreign-agent-ruling-a5a58129-5a12-4aee-8a2b-cbfbb7d8f900.html?utm_campaign=organic&amp;utm_medium=socialshare&amp;utm_source=email" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.axios.com/doj-enforce-al-jazeera-foreign-agent-ruling-a5a58129-5a12-4aee-8a2b-cbfbb7d8f900.html?utm_campaign%3Dorganic%26utm_medium%3Dsocialshare%26utm_source%3Demail&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHzCB7ckkZhDZO9M87_mEld95I1lg">continued to ignore</a> the DOJ and has not registered as a foreign agent.
Al Jazeera is not only funded by the Qatari government but has several ruling family members in <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/news/news-releases/lawmakers-seek-fara-evaluation-qatari-owned-al-jazeera" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.grassley.senate.gov/news/news-releases/lawmakers-seek-fara-evaluation-qatari-owned-al-jazeera&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEiX_nmYIcEnRrKZmH8aOmqX42vng">senior positions</a>. The influence of the Qatari government on the outlet has been rightfully <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/media/2012/sep/30/al-jazeera-independence-questioned-qatar" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.theguardian.com/media/2012/sep/30/al-jazeera-independence-questioned-qatar&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1624735870032000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHMEOiq_3dt6rY1yg7kUIo_50Recw">questioned</a> many times over the years.
Rightly itself is still fairly small, but it appears to be attempting to buy its way into the right-wing audience. Their Youtube channel has under 3,000 subscribers yet boasts tens of thousands of views on their videos — a potential sign of significant advertising spending. According to a source, they pay guests who already have larger online followings, to come on their podcast, and are actively recruiting conservatives for new podcasts.
The outlet has hosted several reputable and admirable conservatives on their programs. However, I question if those guests have reflected on the platform they are helping to build by doing so.
This is not as simple as going on an outlet you disagree with — such as CNN to debate — even though there are a few similar foreign-run outlets that conservatives avoid like the plague. By going on Rightly’s podcast, these conservatives lend their credibility and audience to an outlet that does not deserve it.
I understand that many young conservatives are looking for a platform to express views they’re passionate about. This ambition is respectable and important. However, aiding Al Jazeera and the Qatari government in their effort to gain influence within the conservative movement is antithetical to what the movement should stand for and believe in. While Al Jazeera may give Rightly “creative control” now, there’s no telling what material they’ll ask hosts to promote when they actually have their heels dug into a larger and loyal conservative audience.
We should continue growing conservative media by lifting each other up, not by accepting dirty money from nefarious sources.

OPINION: Al Jazeera Has No Place In The Conservative Movement

The enigmatic Gulf emirate of Qatar, which is obscenely wealthy due to its fortuitous location above the world&#8217;s largest natural gas field, has a longstanding problem with Sunni jihadism. The wealthy petrochemical sheikh minority of the <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2019/08/03/qatar-travel-ban-billionaires-slaves-trapped-middle-east/">majority slave state</a> Qatari populace is, along with Recep Tayyip Erdogan&#8217;s Turkey, disproportionately responsible for funding and exporting more radical Sunni Islamism than any other cloistered clerisy the world over. The Qatari ruling class <a href="https://www.meforum.org/57690/ensconced-doha-islamists">proudly hosts</a> Islamist cleric Yusuf Al Qaradawi, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hammer-designating-muslim-brotherhood-terrorist-josh-hammer">Muslim Brotherhood</a>&#8216;s de facto global caliph, and has long been the preeminent state <a href="https://www.haaretz.com/middle-east-news/palestinians/.premium-hamas-officials-expect-30-million-transfer-from-qatar-within-several-days-1.7222696">bankroller</a> of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Pro-terror network <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hammer-al-jazeeras-disgraceful-holocaust-denying-josh-hammer">Al Jazeera</a> also serves as a state-run Qatari propaganda outfit, and it is the evil bile spewing from Al Jazeera&#8217;s airwaves that led more moderate Sunni Gulf states, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, to boycott and embargo Qatar in 2017. Counter-jihadist activist David Reaboi <a href="http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/feb/17/qatar-a-hospitable-base-for-the-muslim-130932598/">put it well</a> at The Washington Times in February:
<blockquote>Al Jazeera is the world’s most successful, sophisticated and influential state-directed information operation.
It is remarkably aggressive in service of Qatar’s foreign policy interests, which include four key elements: (1) undermining the stability of its neighbors, especially Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates; (2) promoting Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood in vulnerable, Western open societies; (3) financially and diplomatically supporting violent terrorist groups like Hamas, al Qaeda and the Taliban; and (4) assisting the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, Iran, in evading US sanctions as it seeks to develop nuclear weapons.</blockquote>
Now, according to an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/qatar-iran-attack-vessels-intelligence-allies">exclusive Fox News report</a> from this past weekend, Qatar — which, despite alienating its fellow Sunni Gulf states, maintains a cozy relationship with the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hammer-iranian-revolution-forty-years-old-stand-josh-hammer">terror-supporting</a> Iranian mullahs — has once again revealed its true colors for the world to see. As reported by Benjamin Weinthal, Fox News obtained a report alleging that &#8220;Qatar had advance knowledge on an Iranian attack on four commercial vessels in the Gulf of Oman in May and may have failed to warn its U.S., French, and British allies.&#8221; In other words, Qatar duplicitously sided with the world&#8217;s number one state sponsor of terrorism over its purported Western &#8220;allies.&#8221;
The only thing that is surprising about such Qatari duplicity is that anyone in the West is still surprised by it. Qatar has long been the proverbial <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/04/qatar-is-the-weakest-link-in-an-arab-nato/">&#8220;weakest link&#8221;</a> of the Sunni world, utilizing aggressive governmental lobbying, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/04/fashion/qatar-luxury-fashion-national-museum-blockade.html">outlandish flaunting</a> of its petro-infused wealth to sic more A-list politicos onto its dole, and intensive funding of American <a href="https://www.brookings.edu/center/brookings-doha-center/">think tank</a> and higher education institutions to inculcate an insidious pro-Qatar message. As reported by the <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2018/12/16/qatar-georgetown-texas-university/">Daily Caller</a>, Qatar was the number one foreign state funder of U.S. institutions of higher education from 2011 t0 2016 — surpassing some states even hundreds of times its size, such as China.
Weinthal&#8217;s report ought to serve as a much-needed wakeup call for the more sclerotic elements of our bipartisan foreign policy ruling class. That ruling class is oftentimes overly deterred from meaningfully cracking down on Qatar by the U.S. military presence at Qatar&#8217;s Al Udeid Air Base. But it is ultimately myopic to permit our military&#8217;s presence at Al Udeid to pose an impregnable barrier to attempt to rein in this tiny but destructive nation. It is long past time for policymakers and the chattering class alike to arrive at the conclusion that Qatar is not our friend — at all.

Far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) promoted a tweet that appeared to celebrate the violent attack that befell Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) in 2017, when Paul&#8217;s home neighbor attacked him and broke six of his ribs.
Paul was attacked at his home by his neighbor in November 2017 and was awarded more than $580,000 in damages and medical expenses this year as a result of the attack, <a href="https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/30/rand-paul-attack-by-neighbor-1138311">Politico</a> reported. Paul’s neighbor was sentenced to a month in prison, was fined $10,000, and was forced to serve 100 hours of community service.
Republican strategist Andrew Surabian noticed the tweet that Omar promoted on her Twitter account to over 1.4 million followers.
Omar retweeted leftist Tom Arnold, who wrote on Twitter: &#8220;Imagine being Rand Paul&#8217;s next door neighbor and having to deal with @RandPaul lying cowardly circular whiney bullcrap about lawn clippings. No wonder he ripped his toupee off.&#8221;
Surabian took a screenshot of Omar retweeting Arnold&#8217;s tweet, writing: &#8220;Wow, it appears @IlhanMN is celebrating/calling for violence against @RandPaul. I hope every Democrat and Republican in Congress, as well as members of the media have the courage to call this out. Calls for political violence should never be tolerated, regardless of Party.&#8221;

Paul was calling out Omar for her attitude toward the United States, <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/07/26/rand-paul-maybe-ilhan-omar-would-appreciate-america-more-if-she-visited-somalia/">saying</a>: &#8220;I&#8217;m in a town where we have a lot of people who are refugees who have come, some from Somalia, some from Bosnia, I&#8217;ve never heard one of them say America is a terrible place or be unappreciative of our country. Most of them are thankful.&#8221;
&#8220;I’ve met people who have come here from behind the Iron Curtain,&#8221; Paul continued. &#8220;They got away from communism, they’re some of the best Americans we have because they really appreciate how great our country is and then I hear Representative Omar say America is a terrible place.&#8221;
&#8220;Well, she came here and we fed her, we clothed her, she got welfare, she got school, she got healthcare, and then, lo and behold, she has the honor of actually winning a seat in Congress, and she says we’re a terrible country?&#8221; Paul added. &#8220;I think that’s about as ungrateful as you can get.&#8221;
Paul concluded: &#8220;And so, while I&#8217;m not saying we forcibly send her anywhere, I’m willing to contribute to buy her a ticket to go visit Somalia and I think she can look and maybe learn a little bit about the disaster that is Somalia — that has no capitalism, has no God-given rights guaranteed in a constitution, and has about seven different tribes that have been fighting each other for the last 40 years and then maybe after she’s visited Somalia for a while she might come back and appreciate America more.&#8221;

Imbecilic bigot Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/49887/ilhan-omar-americans-should-be-more-fearful-white-joseph-curl">claimed</a> in a recently resurfaced interview on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/47456/hammer-al-jazeeras-disgraceful-holocaust-denying-josh-hammer">Qatari propaganda network</a> Al Jazeera that Americans should be &#8220;fearful&#8221; of white men who are &#8220;causing most of the deaths within this country.&#8221; These racist and blatantly false comments came in response to a question about Islamophobia. The interviewer asked if Islamophobia might be the result of a reasonable fear people have about Islamic terrorism. Omar could have responded that we shouldn&#8217;t fear anyone based on race, ethnicity, or religion, and that each person should be judged according to his or her own merits — but instead, she took the opportunity to fear monger about the dreaded white man.
&#8220;I would say our country should be more fearful of white men across our country because they are actually causing most of the deaths within this country,&#8221; Omar said. &#8220;And so if fear was the, the driving force of policies to keep America safe — Americans safe inside of this country — we should be profiling, monitoring, and creating policies to fight the radicalization of white men.&#8221;
It goes without saying that any white politician&#8217;s career would be over and his reputation destroyed (rightfully so) if he ever uttered a phrase like &#8220;we should be more fearful of brown men&#8221; or &#8220;we should be fearful of black men.&#8221; Even if Omar&#8217;s statistical claims were correct, she would still be an irresponsible, race-baiting bigot for advocating fear of an entire race. But, as it happens, her claims are not correct. They are not even close to correct. She is not only fear mongering — she is fear mongering with phony statistics.
I will be reasonable and assume that Omar didn&#8217;t intend to be taken completely literally. The leading causes of death in America are things like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Is she suggesting that these illnesses have been engineered by the evil white man? I wouldn&#8217;t put it past her, actually, but I&#8217;ll be more generous than that. Let&#8217;s read &#8220;causing death&#8221; as &#8220;murder.&#8221; Is is true in that case? Do white men do most of the murdering in this country?
Again, not close. According to the <a href="https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/htus8008.pdf">Department of Justice</a>, white people (not just men) commit about 45% of the murders in the U.S. That seems high until you consider that white people are over <a href="https://www.chicagoreporter.com/the-us-white-majority-will-soon-disappear-forever/">60%</a> of the population. Whites are therefore underrepresented in the homicide department by about 15%. Blacks commit a little over 50% of the murders in America, despite accounting for only <a href="https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045218">13%</a> of the total population. Those are the simple facts of the matter. Facts cannot be racist. Lies can be racist. Conclusions can also be racist. Ilhan Omar took a racist lie (that white men cause most of the deaths in America) and drew a racist conclusion (that we should therefore fear white men). It&#8217;s a racism double whammy, of sorts.
For my part, I do not think we should be fearful of any race, nor do I think that any individual person of any race should be judged based on crime statistics. I do think we should be honest about those statistics, in any event.
But maybe we could be even more generous to Omar. Maybe we could give her the benefit of the doubt, even though her own statements and history show that she does not warrant such charity. Maybe we could assume that she meant her &#8220;white men cause most of the deaths&#8221; assertion to apply only to terrorism. It is often claimed, and not just by Omar, that white people are responsible for most of the domestic terrorism in America. The most common source cited for this claim is a 2017 Government Accountability Office <a href="https://www.gao.gov/assets/690/683984.pdf">report</a> that found that more people have been killed by right-wing terrorists than by Islamic terrorists. How did they arrive at that conclusion? Here&#8217;s a relevant passage from the report:
<blockquote>&#8230;of the 85 violent extremist incidents that resulted in death since September 12, 2001, far-right politics violent extremist groups were responsible for 62 (73%) while radical Islamist violent extremists were responsible for 23 (27%). The total number of fatalities is 106 for far right violent extremists and 119 for radical Islamist violent extremists over the approximately 15-year period. However, 52% of the deaths attributable to radical Islamist violent extremists occurred in a single event — an attack on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida in 2016.</blockquote>
In order to make &#8220;far-right violent extremists&#8221; the deadliest, one has to compile his aggregate numbers beginning on September 12, 2001. That seems an oddly specific date. Why not start on January 1, 2001? How about January 1, 2000? Isn&#8217;t it easier and cleaner to look at the numbers over the past 20 years, since the beginning of the new century? Well, the reason for starting on September 12, 2001 is obvious — it excludes the deadliest terror attack in American history, which was carried out by Islamic extremists. In other words, if we arbitrarily ignore the 3,000 people radical Islamists killed in one day, then Muslim terrorists have recently killed fewer people than have right-wing extremists. This is a bit like tabulating the total number of people drowned in shipwrecks except for anyone who happened to drown on April 15, 1912.
If you want to know about shipwrecks, it seems the Titanic ought to be a prominent part of that analysis. Similarly, any analysis of terrorism in the United States must obviously include the most devastating terror attack this country has ever experienced. But here&#8217;s the kicker: Even if you did begin your tabulation on September 12, 2001, deaths by Islamic terrorism still dwarf all other categories because over <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/11/9-11-illnesses-death-toll">1,000 people have died</a> from illnesses tied to 9/11 in the intervening years. Or do they also not count?
Of course, if we expand our view and look at the problem on a global scale, the threat of far-right terrorism begins to look like Pluto compared to Islamic terrorism&#8217;s Jupiter. The Global Terrorism Index found <a href="https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2018-12-05/global-terrorism-deaths-down-globally-right-wing-terror-on-rise">66 deaths</a> caused by far-right groups worldwide between 2013 and 2017. It also found that <a href="https://www.christianpost.com/news/global-terrorism-index-ranks-top-10-countries-with-highest-number-of-terror-attacks.html">18,000 </a>total people were killed by terrorists in just the year 2017 alone. Who do we imagine is carrying the bulk of that load? We know it&#8217;s not the far-right white men. They could only manage fewer than 70 deaths across both hemispheres in almost half a decade. Whoever is doing all this global killing, it&#8217;s not white people. Meanwhile, Rep. Omar prefers to live in a fantasy world of her own construction.

Al Jazeera, the radical Islamist media empire that is fully controlled by the nation of Qatar, is breaking American laws by continuing to operate in the United States without registering under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). There is no distinction between Al Jazeera and the nation of Qatar. They are the same entity, and the evidence is available for anyone to observe.
FARA was originally enacted in 1938 &#8212; just three years prior to the U.S. entry into World War II &#8212; with the <a href="https://oig.justice.gov/reports/2016/a1624.pdf">goal</a> to keep tabs on individuals and companies working for the Communist Soviet Union and for Nazi Germany. Today, FARA provides a database of individuals and groups that lobby on behalf of foreign nations, both friends and foes alike.
New guidance issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ), which presides over FARA, has required several state-owned entities to register under its guidelines. Given the newfound attention to foreign meddling in American politics, the DOJ took up a new initiative to update compliance practices over the past couple of years. Several China- and Russia-controlled state media entities have already followed suit, registering under FARA and fulfilling their compliance obligations.
Al Jazeera, on the other hand, has ignored the new guidance and has misled the public about its true nature.
Al Jazeera is owned by Al Jazeera Media Network, which is currently chaired by Hamad bin Thamer al-Thani, a member of the Qatari royal family. The media outfit was founded in the mid-1990s thanks to a $150 million grant from Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/04/world/middleeast/04jazeera.html?mtrref=undefined&amp;gwh=AAD425AD04B3A0C55EAFCDE598B15CC3&amp;gwt=pay">according</a> to The New York Times. At the time, the sheikh was serving as the leader, or emir, of Qatar. In 2013, he passed the torch to his aforementioned cousin, who operates the network today.
Since its founding, there has never been a disconnect between Al Jazeera and Qatar. No policies have been supported on Al Jazeera&#8217;s airwaves that even remotely contradict Qatar&#8217;s policy objectives. There has never been non-Qatari royal leadership at the top of Al Jazeera. And all of the money that funds Al Jazeera comes directly from the government of Qatar&#8217;s coffers. In recognizing this reality, lawmakers in Congress have waged a renewed push for the media conglomerate to register under FARA.
Last week, a group of Republican senators wrote a letter to DOJ asking that Al Jazeera registered as a foreign agent.
&#8220;When the available evidence is taken as a whole, it appears that Al Jazeera&#8217;s broadcasts, including AJ+, mirror the policies and preferences of the Qatari government, which, together with the state funding and other indicia of agency, demonstrate that Al Jazeera and its media subsidiaries act as alter egos of the Qatari government in ensuring dissemination of the government&#8217;s viewpoints,&#8221; read a <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/news/news-releases/lawmakers-seek-fara-evaluation-qatari-owned-al-jazeera">letter</a> signed by the likes of Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Tom Cotton (R-AR), among others.
The letter continues (internal citations omitted):

&#8220;In addition to Al Jazeera seemingly operating as an agent of the Qatari government, its potential obligation to register under FARA may be triggered by two other provisions in the statute. First, because it produces and distributes content and secures access within the United States, it has arguably engage[d] directly or indirectly in the &#8230; dissemination of &#8230; broadcasts, and therefore may have served as a publicity agent. Second, because its programming concerned conditions of a foreign government or foreign country, including but not limited to Qatar, Al Jazeera may have served as an information-service employee by furnishing, disseminating, or publishing its programs.&#8221;

Since its inception, Al Jazeera has bolstered the world&#8217;s most notorious extremists. Today, in 2019, It continues that work. Watch enough Al Jazeera Arabic, and you may run into a host who forcefully declares that jihadi suicide bombers are holy <a href="http://nationalinterest.org/feature/the-problem-al-jazeera-11239">&#8220;martyrs.&#8221;</a> You may also find the network <a href="https://www.conservativereview.com/news/al-jazeera-promotes-documentary-glorifying-osama-bin-laden/">glorifying</a> infamous Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and <a href="http://www.khaleejtimes.com/region/qatar-crisis/gargash-lists-instances-of-al-jazeeras-inflammatory-reporting">other</a> terrorist leaders. On a bigger scale, Al Jazeera weaponizes its &#8220;coverage&#8221; of Middle East affairs to incite Islamist rebellions in rival nations.
At the same time, Qatar claims to be a <a href="https://securitystudies.org/qatar-us-ally-or-global-menace-conference-transcript/">reliable</a> U.S. ally &#8212; even as its leaders in Doha continues to <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/06/qatar-distributes-funds-gaza-families-190620092945323.html">aid and abet</a> U.S.-designated terrorist groups and fill Al Jazeera&#8217;s airwaves with anti-American, pro-terrorist agitprop.
Importantly, Al Jazeera&#8217;s English-language coverage is far different from what is seen on Al Jazeera Arabic. The English programming is uniquely curated for a Western, progressive audience. Knowing that praising radical Islamists may not win over the hearts and minds of Americans, the management at Al Jazeera English, as well as its social media-heavy brand AJ+, has decided to strike themes that are more comfortable to Westerners. But the goals remain the same. In both English and Arabic, Al Jazeera has one purpose: Advancing the objectives of the royal family that rules Qatar.
However, Al Jazeera, through a third-party firm representing the media outfit, has rejected the claim that it is a wholly-owned and controlled entity of the state of Qatar. The third-party firm <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/al-jazeera-pushes-back-on-gop-effort-to-force-it-to-register-as-a-foreign-agent">told</a> the Washington Examiner last week that the Islamist media outlet &#8220;is not owned by Qatar&#8221; and that &#8220;its reporting is not directed or controlled by the Qatari government nor does it reflect any government viewpoint.&#8221;
This is simply not true. On paper, lawyers can devise crafty language to claim that Al Jazeera is not directly owned by Qatar. But it is a reality that the Qatari royals that control the network use it as an organ for the expressed purpose to support and advance Doha&#8217;s position of power in the world.
Having Al Jazeera register under FARA will provide much-needed transparency for efforts to uncover Qatar&#8217;s cash-flush influence operations in Washington, D.C. If Al Jazeera registers under FARA, its paid agents in the United States will also have to file disclosures about the work that they are doing for the Doha regime. Additionally, FARA compliance will ensure that both the general public and government officials can understand Al Jazeera&#8217;s radical Islamist programming as a means to advance Qatar&#8217;s national interests. Perhaps then, more and more members of Congress and the Trump administration will come to understand that Qatar is not the partner and ally that the emirs in Doha claim it to be.
