A small plane slammed into the tallest skyscraper in Beijing on Friday, hitting the building before falling to the street below.
The plane, which was described by one <a href="https://www.scmp.com/news/china/politics/article/3358555/small-aircraft-hits-beijings-tallest-skyscraper-prompting-evacuations">report</a> as a &#8220;light sport aircraft,&#8221; crashed into CITC Tower and caused evacuations in the business district of China&#8217;s capital.
Video posted on social media shows debris from the plane falling onto the street after the crash. A large hole in the building was also visible.

It remains unclear if the pilot purposely flew into the skyscraper. It&#8217;s also unclear if anyone in the building was injured. The plane took off from an airfield in the eastern part of Beijing and circled the area before it flew into the building, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/26/world/asia/china-plane-crash-beijing.html">reported</a>, citing FlightRadar, a flight tracking website.
“This aircraft is normally used for pilot training east of Beijing,” Ian Petchenik, a spokesman for FlightRadar, told the Times.
The CITC Tower is 108 stories tall and serves as the headquarters for the state-owned CITC Group, which holds one of the largest collections of foreign assets in the world.
Police rushed to the scene and tried to prevent people from taking photos and videos, Reuters reported. As authorities moved people away from the building, they told them to delete any photos they had taken on their phones.
More information on the plane crash could be difficult to obtain as China&#8217;s government controls nearly every aspect of the media and often censors news that could be viewed as negative for the communist regime.

One person was killed and five others were injured after a private jet <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/17/us-news/texas-plane-crash-kills-1-after-aircraft-goes-down-on-highway/">crash-landed</a> on a Texas highway Tuesday night, sending a fireball into the night sky near the U.S.-Mexico border — and prompting ordinary citizens to spring into action before emergency crews could even arrive.
The NetJets-operated Cessna Citation Latitude went down on Loop 20 in Laredo shortly after 10 p.m., striking a moving car before skidding across multiple lanes and coming to rest upside down and engulfed in flames. Six people were aboard. Five survivors were transported to a local hospital in stable condition. One did not make it.

Video circulating online captured the harrowing scene: a jet tipped to its side, consumed by fire, with bystanders refusing to stand by and watch. One man used a sledgehammer, another a shovel to try to shatter the cockpit glass and open the aircraft&#8217;s door in a desperate bid to pull survivors from the wreckage. Their actions, caught on camera, are the kind of American grit that doesn&#8217;t make many headlines but should.
&#8220;It looked like part of a movie. I was in shock,&#8221; said witness Zayra Garza, who had been driving her co-workers home when she stumbled onto the crash. &#8220;What was worrying me was the fire. I was concerned that it could have just exploded at any time.&#8221;
According to flight tracking data from FlightRadar24, the aircraft departed San José del Cabo, Mexico, at approximately 6:18 p.m. local time, bound for Austin. It diverted toward Laredo after the airport tower reported a mechanical issue and lost contact with the plane. Minutes later, it was down.
NetJets — the private aviation company owned by Warren Buffett&#8217;s Berkshire Hathaway — <a href="https://apnews.com/article/texas-plane-crash-9d1eb45ec3c4482f2362ec3a39693a82">confirmed</a> it is cooperating with authorities. Federal agencies, including the FBI and the National Transportation Safety Board, are investigating. Some first responders suffered smoke inhalation.
Loop 20 <a href="https://www.kgns.tv/2026/06/17/1-dead-after-plane-crashes-loop-20-laredo-sections-closed-through-wednesday/">remained closed</a> through Wednesday morning, with closures <a href="https://www.facebook.com/laredopd/">stretching</a> from Saunders southbound to Highway 359 northbound. Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño urged residents to be patient and avoid speculation while investigators do their work.
&#8220;As mayor, I understand the importance of allowing investigators to complete a thorough and objective review before drawing any conclusions,&#8221; Treviño said. &#8220;Aviation investigations take time.&#8221;
&#8220;Regrettably and tragically there is one deceased involved in this crash,&#8221; Laredo Police Public Information Officer Jose Baeza told reporters. &#8220;What we have tonight is a tragic event.&#8221;
Those involved in the crash have not yet been publicly identified pending next-of-kin notification.

A plane crashed in rural Missouri on Sunday morning, killing 11 skydivers and a pilot, according to police.
At about 11:35 a.m., a skydiving aircraft, a Pacific Aerospace P750, crashed while departing Butler Memorial Airport in Missouri, according to the FAA. Butler is about 65 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri.
<a href="https://fox4kc.com/news/12-dead-after-plane-crashes-south-of-kansas-city-metro/">FOX4 reported</a> that 11 of the 12 victims were skydivers. The other victim was the pilot of the plane. All people on board have died.
“Troopers are on scene assisting the Butler Police Department &amp; Bates County Sheriff’s Office of a Fatal Plane Crash near the Butler Memorial Airport. At this time reports indicate all occupants (12 total) have perished. Updates to follow,” The Missouri State Highway Police <a href="https://x.com/MSHPTrooperA/status/2066210482780799223?s=20">confirmed on social media</a>.
Some of the victims&#8217; family members witnessed the crash, according to the Associated Press, citing Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson. Clergy and volunteers responded to support relatives at the scene, while authorities continued efforts to identify some of the victims.
Video circulating on social media appears to show the aftermath of the crash. 
The cause of the crash remains unclear. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

The truck was traveling northbound on the New Jersey Turnpike at around 1:50 p.m., according to <a href="https://thenationaldesk.com/">The National News Desk</a>.
Aircraft landing on one of the main runways at Newark come sailing in, low, over multiple lanes of traffic on the Turnpike, which is one of the most congested parts of Interstate 95, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/united-flight-strikes-light-pole-jersey-turnpike-74bf3bf4960d9342c09b02d8b896d1e9">according to the Associated Press. </a>
Chuck Paterakis, the senior vice president of Transportation &amp; Logistics and co-principal at H&amp;S Bakery, claimed that the wheel of the commercial plane crashed into the driver&#8217;s window.
The truck driver reportedly suffered minor injuries and is being treated at a hospital.
&#8220;To me, that everybody on that plane, everybody and the driver, God was looking after them, there&#8217;s no doubt,&#8221; Paterakis told the National News Desk, &#8220;if we did that scenario again, I don&#8217;t know if anybody could&#8217;ve survived that.&#8221;
In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the incident.
&#8220;While on approach to land at Newark Liberty International Airport, United Airlines Flight 169 struck a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike around 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, May 3. The Boeing 767 landed safely and was arriving from Venice, Italy.  The FAA will investigate.
The National Transportation Safety Board also <a href="https://x.com/NTSB_Newsroom/status/2051075321370161160?s=20">announced an investigation. </a>
&#8220;An NTSB investigator is scheduled to arrive in Newark on Monday. The agency has directed United Airlines to secure and provide both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder to support the investigation. A preliminary report outlining the facts and circumstances of the event is expected within 30 days.&#8221;
In a statement to The Daily Wire, United Airlines confirmed one of its planes &#8220;came into contact with a light pole.&#8221;

A surface radar detection system used by air traffic controllers to monitor movements on runways did not alert before an Air Canada jet collided with a fire truck at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Sunday night, a crash that killed both pilots and injured crew members and dozens of passengers.
As authorities continue to investigate the deadly crash, the National Transportation Safety Board said on Tuesday that LaGuardia&#8217;s &#8220;Airport Surface Detection System — Model X&#8221; (ASDE-X) did not alert air traffic controllers before a fire truck <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-video-shows-air-canada-jet-erupting-on-impact-with-fire-truck-at-laguardia">drove onto the runway</a> in front of Air Canada Express Flight 8646.
The detection system uses radar and satellite technology to provide controllers with &#8220;detailed coverage of movement on runways and taxiways&#8221; and is &#8220;equipped with visual and aural alarms that will alert controllers of possible runway incursions or incidents,&#8221; <a href="https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/technology/asde-x">according</a> to the Federal Aviation Administration.
On Sunday night, however, LaGuardia&#8217;s surface detection system failed to notify controllers of the looming disaster on runway 4, NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy told reporters. Quoting the analysis from a replay of the detection system, Homendy said the system did not alert controllers because the fire trucks on the ground were in close proximity and were &#8220;merging and unmerging near the runway, resulting in the inability to create a track.&#8221;
Homendy said the truck that collided with the jet did not have a transponder. While surface detection systems can track vehicles without transponders, Homendy said that transponders help the effectiveness of the system.
&#8220;In order for ASDE-X to work well, you have to know where ground vehicles and aircraft are, and in this case, that ground vehicle did not have a transponder,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And it would&#8217;ve been helpful — when you have a radar target, it does not provide you with the information that you need like it would for an aircraft as a controller.&#8221;
The NTSB chairwoman added that when investigators watched a replay of what the detection system showed controllers, it did not show any &#8220;blobs&#8221;— which represented the emergency vehicles — move in front of the plane, indicating that the system failed to accurately track the fire trucks.
The NTSB also revealed on Tuesday that there were two controllers on duty at the time of the deadly crash, which Homendy said was consistent with normal operating procedures for many airports, including LaGuardia, for the midnight shift. The midnight shift at LaGuardia begins at 10:30 p.m. and ends at 6:30 a.m. The Air Canada jet crashed into the fire truck at approximately 11:40 p.m.
The NTSB chairwoman said that officials would look into whether it &#8220;makes sense&#8221; for LaGuardia to operate with just two air traffic controllers on the midnight shift, or if the airport should change its procedures.
Homendy cautioned reporters about &#8220;pointing fingers at controllers,&#8221; arguing that there are many factors officials still must investigate before pinning the blame on air traffic controllers. Audio from the air traffic control tower revealed one of the controllers saying that he &#8220;messed up&#8221; after the collision. Another controller replied, &#8220;No man, you did the best you could.&#8221;
According to the NTSB, 25 seconds before the crash, truck 1 requested air traffic controllers to allow it to cross runway 4 as a group of emergency vehicles were responding to an issue with another jet on the tarmac. Twenty seconds before the end of the radio correspondence, &#8220;the tower cleared truck 1 and company to cross runway 4 at Taxiway Delta.&#8221;
When the truck was cleared to cross, the Air Canada jet was 100 feet from the ground as it approached runway 4. Nine seconds before the radio transmission was cut off, however, the air traffic controllers told truck 1 to stop, just one second before the Air Canada jet&#8217;s landing gear was heard touching down on the runway.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy shut down rumors that a deadly runway crash at New York&#8217;s LaGuardia Airport was caused by a lack of air traffic controllers, telling reporters on Monday that the airport is well-staffed.
Duffy, flanked by Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) along with several others, took several questions about the collision — between an Air Canada flight 8646 and a Port Authority fire truck — that occurred late Sunday night. While he deferred most questions to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which is handling the full investigation, Duffy responded immediately when a reporter asked whether a lack of air traffic controllers had been a factor in the crash.
Several reports have included audio from Air Traffic Control that features one air traffic controller calling for the fire truck to stop — and then a short time later saying that he&#8217;d &#8220;messed up.&#8221; Another voice could be heard saying that he&#8217;d done &#8220;the best he could.&#8221;
One reporter asked Duffy at the press conference whether there was any truth to rumors that only one air traffic controller had been working at the time — and whether he thought such an incident might discourage people from choosing to become air traffic controllers, and Duffy said that it shouldn&#8217;t.
&#8220;I told you I am not going to talk about specifics, but for that question, I will say that is inaccurate,&#8221; Duffy said. He went on to note that the Transportation Department is doing everything possible to retain experienced air traffic controllers and train new recruits in order to fill vacancies, but he went on to say, &#8220;As airports go, LaGuardia is a well-staffed airport &#8230; I did want to clarify, I have heard the rumor there was only on controller in the tower and that is not accurate.&#8221;
Duffy laid out several key updates that he wanted Congress to approve funding for, saying that providing for the safety of the American people while they travel should not be a partisan issue. &#8220;There is bipartisan agreement so they should come together and figure out a way to give us the rest of the dollars to complete the job.&#8221;

The video shows the plane heading down the runway and a line of emergency vehicles with flashing lights approaching at right angles to the plane. The plane crashes into the first vehicle in that line and grinds to a halt.
The plane, according to several reports, was landing at the time of the collision and had already slowed to approximately 30 miles per hour before striking the fire truck.
The firetruck, and the other emergency vehicles behind it, were traveling to handle a separate incident at LaGuardia at the time — and had been cleared to cross the runway. Audio recordings from the Air Traffic Control suggested a mix-up resulted in both the plane and the firetruck arriving at the intersection at the same time.
&#8220;Stop! Stop! Fire #1 Stop!” the controller could be heard saying.
After the collision, one controller could be heard saying that he &#8220;messed up.&#8221;
&#8220;No man, you did the best you could,&#8221; another replied.

Two pilots are dead following a collision between an Air Canada Express jet and an airport firetruck at New York City&#8217;s LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, according to officials.
The Port Authority said an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle was responding to a separate incident when it was struck by the aircraft. 
More than a <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/live-blog/air-canada-laguardia-collision-live-updates-rcna264682">dozen</a> passengers were injured in the crash, with several transported to Elmhurst Hospital and New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital for treatment.
Jazz Aviation, which operates Air Canada Express, issued a statement.
“Flight 8646 was en route to LaGuardia (LGA) from Montréal (YUL),” the company <a href="https://flyjazz.mediaroom.com/2026-03-23-Jazz-Aviation-LP-operating-as-Air-Canada-Express-confirms-incident">said</a>. “The preliminary passenger list indicates the aircraft was carrying 72 passengers and 4 crew members, although this is subject to confirmation. The incident occurred at approximately 11:47 PM on March 22, 2026.” 
According to CNN, the aircraft had just landed and was traveling at approximately 100 miles per hour when it collided with the firetruck. Early reports suggest a possible communications issue might have contributed to the crash. 
Air traffic control audio from the incident appears to capture a controller saying he &#8220;messed up,&#8221; followed by another voice responding, &#8220;Nah man, you did the best you could.&#8221; The context and role of those individuals have not yet been officially confirmed.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that LaGuardia Airport was shut down at 3:16 am and will not reopen until at least 2 pm. 
The New York Police Department said: &#8220;Due to an emergency incident at LaGuardia Airport, all streets and highway exits into the airport are closed until further notice. Expect delays and avoid the area if possible.” 
The crash comes as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown enters its 37th day, disrupting air travel and airport operations nationwide.
As a result, major airports in the United States are experiencing severe delays with security wait times over three hours. TSA officers are working without pay during the shutdown which has led to higher absences. Over four hundred have quit since mid-February. “They’re going to take other jobs to put food on the table and pay the rent,” <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/airport-lines-tsa-agents-flight-delays-jfk-nola-spring-break-2026-3">said</a> Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy. “I do think it’s going to get much worse, and as it gets worse, I think that puts pressure on Congress to come to a resolution.” President Donald Trump announced on Saturday he will send ICE agents to “help our wonderful TSA agents who have stayed on the job despite.”

Seven people are dead, and one is injured after a private jet crashed in Maine on Sunday night.
The crash took place at around 7:45 p.m. at Bangor International Airport after the craft attempted to take off during harsh winter conditions. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and federal authorities are expected to arrive on Monday to investigate. 
The Associated Press first <a href="https://apnews.com/article/bangor-maine-plane-crash-0e56e09867a95201354449aa863daf65">reported</a> the deaths and noted that the injured person was a crew member. 
“At approximately 7:45 p.m. there was an incident involving a single aircraft that was departing from [Bangor International Airport],” the airport <a href="https://flybangor.com/incident-at-bangor-international-airport-avoid-the-area-2/">announced</a> Sunday. “First responders are still on scene and are expected to be actively working the site for several more hours before any additional information is available.”
Fire and rescue crews from the 101st Maine Air National Guard, firefighters from Bangor and nearby cities, and the Bangor Police Department all responded to the scene. 
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) identified the crashed plane as a Bombardier CL 600. The plane ended up upside down and on fire, the Bangor Daily News reported. 
The condition of the victims was not known for over 12 hours after the crash. Local officials said it was the responsibility of federal officials to release that information. The NTSB, however, said that local authorities handled updates on passenger conditions. 
When asked why it had been ruled safe for departure despite the snow and ice, the spokesman said that other planes were arriving and departing at the same time. 
“The snow removal operations were in progress and again, there were planes landing and departing… around that time of day,” the spokesman said. 
An airport spokesman said that federal investigators were expected to arrive on Monday. In a different statement, the NTSB said it expected to be on the scene soon. 
“A team of NTSB investigators is currently assembling and is expected to arrive on scene shortly. Once on site, the investigator will begin the process of documenting the scene and examining the aircraft. The aircraft will then be recovered to a secure facility for further evaluation,” the NTSB said. 
A preliminary report on the crash will be released within 30 days.

Early Thursday morning, a private jet crashed in U.S. Navy-owned housing in San Diego, killing three members of the music agency Sound Talent Group, including its founder.
Sound Talent Group has represented Hanson, Vanessa Carlton, Sum 41, Pierce the Veil, I Prevail, Set it Off, Story of the Year, Silverstein, Parkway Drive, and Eve 6. “Since launching in 2018, STG has grown to more than three dozen employees with offices in New York City, Nashville, and San Diego,” the company’s <a href="https://soundtalentgroup.com/about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a> states.
Sound Talent Group co-founder Dave Shapiro, the owner of the plane, was listed as one of the fatalities; the crash caused a fire to race down the street. “San Diego police officer Anthony Carrasco said five people from a single family were taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation after evacuating to a nearby school,” AP <a href="https://apnews.com/article/plane-crash-san-diego-5e465454fc0282a81adafc1bfdc142a1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. “At least 100 residents were evacuated.”
City Councilmember Raul Campillo said local residents spoke of “military families helping military families out of their homes, jumping out of windows and avoiding fire.”
“I can’t quite put words to describe what the scene looks like, but with the jet fuel going down the street, and everything on fire all at once, it was pretty horrific to see,” San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl stated.
“Audio recorded by <a href="http://www.liveatc.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-gtm-enhancement-style="LinkEnhancementA">www.liveATC.net</a> includes a brief transmission from the pilot calling out that he was on final approach to the Montgomery-Gibbs airport and was about 3 miles out at 3:45 a.m.,” AP noted, adding that reports said it was very foggy at the time of the crash.
Aviation attorney Barry Newman pointed out that early in the morning and in foggy weather, the plane was probably using an instrument flight rules plan, but once the aircraft descends to 673 feet above ground, the pilot also had to rely on his own visual perception. “If a pilot descends to that level and he can’t see the runway, he has to call for a missed approach or divert to another airport,” he said.

Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian pushed back this week on claims from the political Left that President Donald Trump&#8217;s cuts to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will impact air travel safety.
The comments from Bastian come after one of Delta&#8217;s planes was involved in an accident in Toronto this week during landing. The plane&#8217;s rear landing gear snapped upon impact, causing the plane&#8217;s wing to clip the ground and the jetliner to flip over.
Bastian appeared on &#8220;CBS Mornings&#8221; on Wednesday to address the recent plane crash at Toronto-Pearson International Airport, where a Delta flight from Minneapolis overturned while landing at the Canadian airport.
&#8220;Do those cuts worry you and do you think that impacts safety?&#8221; CBS News host Gayle King asked Bastian on &#8220;CBS Mornings.&#8221; &#8220;Do these cuts affect you?&#8221;
&#8220;The cuts do not affect us, Gayle,&#8221; Bastian responded. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been in close communication with the Secretary of Transportation. I understand that the cuts at this time are something that are raising questions, but the reality is there&#8217;s over 50,000 people that work at the FAA. And the cuts, I understand, were 300 people, and they were in non-critical safety functions.&#8221;
&#8220;The Trump administration has committed to investing deeply in terms of improving the overall technologies that are used in the air traffic control systems and modernizing the skies,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;They&#8217;ve committed to hiring additional controllers and investigators, and safety investigators. So no, I&#8217;m not concerned with that at all.&#8221;

Bastian said that the crew responded appropriately to the accident, which pilots continuously train to be prepared for.
“This is what we train for,” Bastian insisted. “We train for this continuously.”
He added that despite the accident last month in Washington, D.C., and some smaller crashes since then, flying remains “the safest form of transportation, period.”
