The recent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/worries-spread-as-ebola-outbreak-hits-grim-milestone?row=0&amp;elementPosition=6&amp;rowType=Web+Search+Overlay">Ebola outbreak</a> in Africa has received a lot of media attention in recent weeks, but there is a potentially deadlier pandemic sweeping across Africa: cholera. 
According to the <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/ebola/situation-summary/index.html">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention</a>, officials have confirmed 115 deaths out of 598 confirmed cases of Ebola outside the U.S. since the outbreak started in early May. In comparison, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has <a href="https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/all-topics-z/cholera/surveillance-and-disease-data/cholera-monthly">reported</a> 3,596 new cholera cases and 176 deaths in Africa since the end of April. 
The reason cholera is underreported is that the disease has affected Africa and parts of Asia for centuries. 
Cholera is one of the world&#8217;s deadliest diseases and has swept the globe with seven pandemics since its discovery, according to the <a href="https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/cholera">World Health Organization</a>. The current outbreak has lasted for 65 years since starting in Southern Asia and has since gone worldwide.
“Researchers estimate that there are 1.3 to 4.0 million cases and 21,000 to 143,000 deaths from cholera worldwide each year,” the WHO reported.
The symptoms of cholera can be even more painful and more quickly lead to death than Ebola symptoms.
Cholera is a disease that triggers rapid, uncontrollable diarrhea that can cause severe dehydration, internal organ failure, and death of infected patients within hours if left untreated.
Ebola, on the other hand, causes internal bleeding. It can take between 2 and 21 days for an infected person to begin showing symptoms, and symptoms can continue for weeks.
Though Ebola does have a higher fatality rate than cholera, studies show that treatment in the United States can significantly lower the chance of death.
“Death rates [for Ebola] drop sharply with intensive supportive care, the kind that keeps patients hydrated and their blood pressure and oxygen stable,” <a href="https://publichealth.berkeley.edu/articles/news/commentary/how-worried-should-you-be-about-ebola">UC Berkeley Public Health</a> reported. &#8220;During the 2014 West Africa outbreak, mortality ran 40 to 70 percent across affected countries; for the small number of patients evacuated to Europe and the U.S., it was closer to 20 percent.”
Ebola, unlike other viruses such as COVID-19, is not airborne but spreads through contact with a contaminated person’s bodily fluids. In Africa, the disease has spread rapidly due in part to local burial customs that dictate that a whole tribe should bury the dead.
Cholera spreads through contaminated water. Thus, while Ebola spreads from person to person, entire villages can contract cholera at the same time due to using a single source of contaminated water.
Cholera has also been increasing in Africa in recent years. Conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, along with earthquakes and natural disasters, have harmed the water infrastructure in Africa, causing more people to resort to cholera-infested sources.
“Reported cholera cases rose by 5% and deaths by 50% in 2024 compared to 2023, with more than 6000 people dying from a disease that is both preventable and treatable,” the WHO <a href="https://www.who.int/news/item/12-09-2025-cholera-kills-more-people-for-second-consecutive-year-while-prevention-and-treatment-available">stated</a>. “Conflict, climate change, population displacement, and long-term deficiencies in water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure continue to fuel the rise of cholera.”

WASHINGTON — The State Department has uncovered several birth tourism networks around the world, The Daily Wire can first report.
Under guidance from the State Department to be on high alert about fraudulent documentation, U.S. embassies in West Africa, Europe, and North Africa found evidence of multiple plans to produce fraudulent documents and facilitate individuals traveling to the United States to give birth within American borders, The Daily Wire has learned.
In West Africa, a U.S. embassy uncovered a &#8220;sophisticated birth tourism network&#8221; wherein more than 100 foreign nationals were using fraudulent documents to obtain visas and secure U.S. citizenship for their children. The State Department shut down this birth tourism network and revoked the foreign nationals&#8217; visas. State is also coordinating with local authorities to &#8220;systematically identify and cut off any similar operations.&#8221;
&#8220;Under President Trump, the State Department is defending the integrity of U.S. citizenship by ending illegal birth tourism schemes,&#8221; said State Department messaging viewed by The Daily Wire. &#8220;No foreigner is permitted to obtain a visitor visa for the primary purpose of acquiring U.S. citizenship for a child by giving birth in the U.S.&#8221;
A U.S. embassy in Europe found that more than 400 suspected birth tourism cases had occurred since 2024. In this case, investigators traced the birth tourism to at least six companies that were coaching applicants on what to say in their visa interviews, arranging housing, and setting up delivery plans. State again shut down the process, revoked the visas, and permanently banned &#8220;several fraudsters from traveling to the United States ever again.&#8221;
An embassy in North Africa revoked more than 100 visas for &#8220;birth tourist&#8221; parents who came to the United States specifically to give birth to children who would get U.S. citizenship. State Department consular officers worked with law enforcement and used data analytics to identify the networks abusing the visa system in this case.
&#8220;A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right,&#8221; the State Department messaging said. &#8220;The State Department is taking action around the world to stop this abuse, dismantle birth tourism networks, and hold accountable those who try to scam our system.&#8221;
The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-are-chinese-birth-centers-hiding-in-your-backyard-we-went-to-find-out">previously investigated</a> eyebrow-raising cases of birth tourism in Texas, where the state sued De’Ai Postpartum Care Center in Houston for “exploiting birthright citizenship by unlawfully facilitating the invasion of Chinese nationals … for the sole purpose of giving birth.” That center is accused of facilitating the births of more than 1,000 American-born babies, as reported by to The Daily Wire&#8217;s Jennie Taer.
President Donald Trump promptly signed an executive order ending birthright citizenship after taking office in January 2025, but the order has been repeatedly paused due to legal challenges. The Supreme Court will hand down a decision on the order sometime in late June or early July.
&#8220;We are the only Country in the World STUPID enough to allow &#8216;Birthright&#8217; Citizenship!&#8221; protested the president, the day that the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case. He attended those oral arguments in person, the first president in United States history to do so.

The FBI recently took out a massive internet scam network, arresting over 300 people, freeing over 2,000 people from human trafficking, and seizing over $8 billion in cryptocurrency. 
The FBI said last week that it primarily focused on taking down what it <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/fbi-seizes-record-8-billion-182232782.html">calls</a> “scam compounds” in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The scam compounds are typically guarded and filled with trafficked workers who are forced to conduct romance scams and fake investment schemes that target many Americans. Over 2,000 people were freed from the compounds. 
The operation focused on Prince Holding Group, a company in Cambodia. Authorities also took out a criminal compound in Dubai, Myanmar, and Thailand. Altogether, the FBI seized over 127,000 bitcoin from the nine scam compounds, which is over $8 billion, making it the largest crypto seizure in human history.

The United States worked with Dubai police to arrest 275 people, six of whom will be transported to the United States to face federal charges.
FBI Director Kash Patel, said the major crackdown gives a clear message to scammers across the world.
&#8220;If you target Americans, we will find you, disrupt your network, and bring every available tool of the federal government down on you,” Patel <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/fbi-seizes-record-setting-8-billion-cryptocurrency-amid-intercontinental-scam-compound-crackdown">told</a> Fox News. 

The FBI also took down the &#8220;Democratic Karen Benevolent Army,” an armed militia in Myanmar that has ties to Chinese mobsters and has been engaging in this criminal scam network..
The U.S. seized thousands of smartphones and other office equipment in Thailand, severely crippling the scam infrastructure there.
During the whole operation, the FBI <a href="https://x.com/jacobincambodia/status/2060184532104700246">worked</a> with the Royal Thai police, the Burmese army, Dubai’s police, and some Chinese investigators. The FBI also utilized Elon Musk’s Starlink to take down over 7,000 terminals in Myanmar that criminals were using to facilitate communications.
The FBI’s 2025 &#8220;Internet Crime Report&#8221; <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/news/press-releases/cryptocurrency-and-ai-scams-bilk-americans-of-billions">states</a> that Americans have been defrauded of $21 billion in cyber-related crimes, with AI and crypto-related scams being the costliest. 
 
Apprehending these con artists and hackers is difficult as the internet allows them to be scattered across the world, seemingly untouchable by American authorities.

Doctors in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) say that the Ebola virus is spreading at an “alarming” rate with over 1,000 suspected cases.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control <a href="https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/ebola-outbreak-democratic-republic-congo-and-uganda">says</a> the virus, which has a fatality rate of roughly 50%, has “increasing numbers of confirmed and suspected cases and deaths being reported.” As of Friday morning, there are 125 total confirmed cases and 906 suspected cases with 17 confirmed deaths and 223 suspected deaths.
&#8220;The outbreak is completely out of control,&#8221; said Dr. Richard Kojan, the president of the Alliance for International Medical Action, during an <a href="https://abcnews.com/International/control-doctors-frontline-ebola-outbreak-speak/story?id=133364928">interview</a> from the DRC&#8217;s Ituri Province.
Dr. Richard Lokudi, director of the main hospital in Mongbwalu, explained in another interview that the virus was spreading “at an exponential speed.”
The difficulty of containing this virus is due not only to it being the Bundibugyo virus, a strain of Ebola with no approved vaccine, but also because of disputes over local customs. Dr. Kojan said there is a “deep mistrust” among some local communities, hampering containment efforts. Residents have also <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2026/05/28/congo-ebola-aid-bunia-who-tedros/607c60d4-5a96-11f1-8a9d-afb1148204e1_story.html">become angry</a> with health workers over the medical protocols for handling victims’ bodies, resulting in a “clash with local burial rites.” Three attacks have been launched against health centers in Ituri by residents.
Lokudi in an interview said that seven patients suspected of having Ebola escaped, creating ”chains and chains of contamination.&#8221;
On Wednesday, the <a href="https://x.com/FoxNews/status/2059772419250770096">Trump administration</a> said that Americans who were exposed to Ebola will be treated in a Kenya facility instead of flying home. Secretary of State Marco Rubio <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6396842926112">said</a>, “We cannot and will not allow any cases of Ebola to enter the United States.”
Rubio explained that there are multiple agencies involved, tracking people to prevent Ebola cases from entering the country.
“We feel like we’ve got good efforts in place to do that and America should feel assured that the president and his administration is doing everything we can to protect them all on that front,” Rubio said at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The kind of third-worldist brainrot that has long been an undercurrent of America&#8217;s far-Left is having a moment.
The &#8220;Blame America First&#8221; crowd used to be confined to the fringes — coffee shop discussions of a million dead Iraqis, Jane Fonda manning a Viet Cong anti-aircraft gun, DSA conference speakers deriding Barack Obama as a war criminal for taking out Based Pan-Africanist Socialist Revolutionary Gaddafi — but now it dominates the Discourse. Podcasters and newsletter writers from Left, Right, and the schizo middle draw millions of clicks by asserting that American projection of force and pursual of interest is the root cause of all the world&#8217;s ills, from Russia-Ukraine to &#8220;genocide in Gaza&#8221; to the Islamic takeover of Europe.
Sadio Camara would likely agree with some version of that anti-Western assessment if you asked him about it. You can&#8217;t, though, because he got blown up by a car bomb last month.
Camara was the Minister of Defense in the West African country of Mali until his untimely yet instructive death on April 25. It was only a few years earlier that he played a key role in overthrowing his own country&#8217;s government, kicking out the United States (and even more so the French), and entering a security partnership with Russia and its mercenaries.
Mali is part of the Sahel region of Africa, alongside Niger and Burkina Faso. The average American could be forgiven for not caring much about this part of the world, but they should at least a little: it&#8217;s rich in rare earth minerals, resources like gold and uranium, and Islamic terrorists. They also sit along key migration routes from sub-Saharan Africa to Europe, which is to say that they have some bearing on how non-European Europe will continue to become in the future.
All three of those countries previously had democratic-ish governments that worked with the United States and France on counter-terrorism. You might recall the <a href="https://www.csis.org/analysis/dods-report-investigation-2017-ambush-niger">tragic ambush</a> in Niger that killed four Green Berets (and 4 Nigeriens) in 2017. Africa has really become a hotspot for Islamic terrorist groups in recent years, and the United States had a major presence in Niger to fight them (and smaller special forces operations in Mali and Burkina Faso).
Then, in the early 2020s, they fell one-by-one to Russian-backed coups that installed military juntas and severed ties with the United States.
&#8220;Move on from the colonial past and hear the anger, the frustration, the rejection that is coming up from the African cities and countryside, and understand that this movement is inexorable,&#8221; Malian government spokesman Abdoulaye Maïga told the UN in 2022. &#8220;Your intimidations and subversive actions have only swelled the ranks of Africans concerned with preserving their dignity.&#8221;
There is a little bit of blame to be attributed to Washington, D.C., at this point in the story. Under President Joe Biden, a delegation of officials visited Niger and more or less gave the junta an ultimatum: stop cozying up to Russia and Iran and work with us instead, or else. At the time, Niger was nearing a uranium agreement with Iran. (Surely that won&#8217;t be relevant down the road!)
They promptly told the Biden administration to kick rocks and booted what remained of America&#8217;s presence from the country, including one of our most critical drone bases in the region which we used to kill terrorists.
&#8220;For Niger it was just very abrupt and very aggressive. They felt that it was the same attitude that the French had,&#8221; Zineb Riboua, a research fellow at the Hudson Institute&#8217;s Center for Peace and Security in the Middle East, told me. &#8220;The military junta asked them to leave.&#8221;
&#8220;Instead of presenting it as an ultimatum, they could have presented an alternative. Instead of doing a uranium deal with Iran, why don&#8217;t you do one with the United States, and you get a school program or something in Niger, something they don&#8217;t have,&#8221; Riboua said. &#8220;A lot of these countries have unemployment issues, and they&#8217;re landlocked countries, so it&#8217;s very hard for them to do trade and be integrated in the region.&#8221;
Alas, with the Western colonial powers gone, things should have been on the upswing for the Sahel. We&#8217;ve got Russia (primarily via its mercenary forces, the Wagner Group) doing security and fighting the terrorists. We&#8217;re trading with Iran and China. All is well.
Then they got mugged by reality. The Russians were killing untold numbers of civilians and still somehow managing to cede ground to the jihadists. In fact, in Burkina Faso and Mali, the Russians and government forces actually killed more civilians last year than the jihadists. The security situation was deteriorating rapidly. Then, things really came to a head in April, with the offensive that killed Camara and countless others.
The April attack even resulted in Russia&#8217;s own mini-Kabul moment, with Russian troops fleeing the region, forced to leave large amounts of weapons behind.
The Sahel juntas, just a few years after declaring themselves strong, independent, anti-Western governments that don&#8217;t need no protecting from Europe and America, found themselves being overrun by Jama&#8217;at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) and ISIS.

JNIM are a group of Salafi-jihadist groups, descended in part from al-Qaeda, which now operates in territory larger than every U.S. state besides Alaska, primarily in Mali and Burkina Faso. They&#8217;re the ones who rolled up to Camara&#8217;s house and detonated a car bomb. They&#8217;re probably the closest entity we&#8217;ve seen to peak ISIS since its downfall, seeing as their specific goals are to expel foreign forces and establish a caliphate under sharia law.
Of course, there is still ISIS itself, which is also active here. ISSP (Islamic State-Sahel Province) has taken over large swathes of Niger, and even launched an attack on the capital&#8217;s airport in January (which also housed some Russian mercenaries).

The Trump administration has signaled some willingness to get involved and try to rectify the situation, potentially with a mineral deal of some kind, but who knows if it will come too late. The Islamists are taking all three countries by storm now, and have killed nearly 80,000 people since 2019.
&#8220;We are victims of our wealth — the wealth that imperialists want to seize at all costs, aiming to keep us in slavery. We will secure it,&#8221; said Burkina Faso&#8217;s &#8220;Interim&#8221; President Ibrahim Traoré in 2024.
They probably wish they had stayed under the boot of Western imperialism after all.

The remains of one of two U.S. Army soldiers who disappeared during “African Lion” military exercises in Morocco have been recovered after an intensive week-long multinational search operation, military officials confirmed Sunday.
The soldier was identified as Kendrick Lamont Key Jr., a 27-year-old 1st Lieutenant from Richmond, Virginia, who served as an Air Defense Artillery officer assigned to Charlie Battery, 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command.
<a href="https://nypost.com/2026/05/03/world-news/2-us-troops-missing-during-africa-lion-training-exercises-in-morocco/">According</a> to The New York Post, Key and another unidentified soldier vanished on May 2 during a recreational hike near the Cap Draa Training Area outside Tan-Tan, Morocco, hours after participating in the annual African Lion multinational war games exercise.
Officials said the two soldiers were seen near ocean cliffs before they reportedly plunged into the Atlantic Ocean. “A Moroccan military search team found the Soldier in the water along the shoreline at approximately 8:55 a.m. local time May 9, within roughly one mile of where both Soldiers reportedly entered the ocean,” U.S. Army Europe and Africa said in a <a href="https://www.europeafrica.army.mil/ArticleViewPressRelease/Article/4482802/press-release-us-army-recovers-identifies-one-soldier-near-cap-draa-morocco-sea/">statement</a>.
The second soldier remains missing as search efforts continue.
The disappearance triggered a massive international rescue operation involving more than 600 personnel from the United States, Morocco, and allied partner nations participating in the exercises. The operation included helicopters, drones, frigates, maritime vessels, and ground search teams combing more than 12,000 square kilometers of shoreline and ocean over eight days.
African Lion 2026 is the largest annual U.S.-led military exercise on the African continent, involving more than 7,000 personnel from over 30 nations across Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, and Senegal. The exercise is designed to strengthen military coordination and readiness between the United States and allied African and NATO partner nations.
Military officials said a U.S. contingent remains in Morocco even after the formal conclusion of the exercises Friday in order to continue search-and-rescue operations for the second missing soldier.
Before joining the military, Key earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Methodist University in North Carolina, with additional studies in international business, entrepreneurship, and business administration. He entered military service in 2023 as an officer candidate before receiving his commission as an Air Defense Artillery officer in 2024 after completing Officer Candidate School and the Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
His military decorations include the Army Achievement Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

The tragedy marks another deadly incident connected to the African Lion exercises, which began in 2004. In 2012, two U.S. Marines were killed and two others injured after a helicopter crash during the drills in Morocco.

Two United States service members are missing in Morocco after a massive war games exercise involving multiple nations.
The United States Africa Command (<a href="https://www.africom.mil/pressrelease/36450/search-and-rescue-ongoing-at-african-lion-2026">AFRICOM</a>) released a statement indicating that the two had gone missing somewhere near the Cap Draa Training Area — which lies just under 20 miles from the Atlantic Ocean near the city of Tan Tan. A long-stable community of chimpanzees in Uganda has fractured into a sustained, lethal conflict that researchers are now describing as a kind of civil war, raising new questions about the roots of violence not just in primates, but in human societies.
The conflict is unfolding among the Ngogo chimpanzees in Kibale National Park, a group that scientists have studied continuously since the mid-1990s. For roughly two decades, the apes lived as a single, unusually large and cohesive community, at one point numbering around 200 individuals.
“They were living the good life by being together,” primatologist John Mitani, a longtime researcher on the project, told The <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/ngogo-uganda-chimpanzee-civil-war-99f04332">Wall Street Journal</a>. The chimps hunted together, shared territory, and even coordinated attacks against rival groups outside their own. That stability and cooperation began to break down around 2015.
According to a new study published in <a href="https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adz4944">Science</a>, the group started to split into factions after several key male chimpanzees died, weakening the social bonds that had tied different cliques together. Around the same time, a shift in the dominance hierarchy introduced new tensions, with a new alpha male rising to power.
At first, the changes were subtle; chimpanzees that once moved freely between subgroups began avoiding each other, interactions that had once ended in grooming and cooperation started to turn hostile. Then, in a moment researchers described as unmistakable, the shift became visible.
“All hell broke loose,” Mitani recalled of a 2015 encounter between two factions that suddenly turned violent. Over the next three years, the split hardened, and by 2018, what had once been a single group had fully divided into two separate communities, occupying different parts of the forest, no longer mating with one another, and treating a shared territory as a contested border.
Then the killing began.
Members of the smaller faction, called the Western group, began launching coordinated attacks on the larger Central group. Researchers observed organized patrols, targeted ambushes, and repeated attempts to kill rival males — among other <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/nov/02/chimps-use-military-style-tactics-to-gain-advantage-on-rivals-study-reveals">common tactics</a> used by chimpanzees. By 2021, the violence had escalated further, expanding to include attacks on infants.
In total, researchers have documented more than 28 deaths among the Ngogo chimps, including those of 19 infants, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/09/science/chimpanzees-war-ngogo-uganda.html">according</a> to The New York Times. The real number is likely higher, as some bodies are never recovered.
What makes the situation unusual is not just the scale of the violence, but who it is directed at. Chimpanzees are known to attack rival groups, but in this case, the victims are former allies — animals that once lived, hunted, and socialized together for years.
Researchers say they still do not have a definitive explanation for why the split happened. One theory is that the group simply grew too large, straining the social ties that kept it together. Another points to the loss of key individuals who acted as “bridges” between different cliques. Changes in leadership and competition for mates may have further accelerated the breakdown.
Aaron Sandel, another co-author on the study, said those overlapping pressures may have been enough to push the group past a tipping point.
The findings are significant because they challenge a common assumption about conflict, that it is driven primarily by cultural or ideological differences. Scientists and philosophers have long debated where human warfare is rooted: whether it lay mainly in cultural differences, desire for wealth and security, or whether it can emerge more fundamentally from the breakdown of social cohesion.
The Ngogo chimps suggest the latter may play a larger role than previously thought. Researchers caution against drawing direct parallels, but the pattern is difficult to ignore. A large successful group, the gradual erosion of internal bonds leading to the emergence of factions, and eventually, sustained violence between former members of the same group.
For now, “It’s an ongoing conflict,” Mitani said, with no signs of slowing down.
And for the scientists tracking it in real time, the experience is as unsettling as it is revealing. “I feel like a war correspondent,” Sandel said. “I want to be there to see it, but it’s sad. I’ve seen so many dead bodies of chimps.”

The chief financial officer of the African Development Foundation, a federal agency affiliated with USAID, will plead guilty to steering grants and contracts in exchange for bribes.
The previously-obscure African Development Foundation became a darling of the Left when its CFO, Mathieu Zahui, locked its doors to prevent Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from entering. Democrat <a href="https://x.com/SenBrianSchatz/status/1898391541594419261?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1898391541594419261%7Ctwgr%5Eb36e7fac996898f9c03eceb09da0e0874f916802%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Fthis-foreign-aid-agency-locked-its-doors-to-keep-doge-out-now-we-know-why" target="_blank" rel="noopener">politicians</a> framed it as an act of moral courage, and left-wing media called the group &#8220;the little agency that could.&#8221;
But on Friday, the Department of Justice said Zahui admitted that he was doing exactly what conservatives have suspected is common in foreign aid: Laundering money through poor nations and then back to D.C. insiders, who used it to enrich themselves.
According to <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.288886/gov.uscourts.dcd.288886.1.0_1.pdf">court papers</a> filed Friday, the African Development Foundation sent $800,000 to a Kenya-based company run by Zahui&#8217;s friend. The friend paid Zahui a kickback of $12,000, and the company kept $134,886 for doing no work.
The rest of the money was simply a &#8220;pass-through&#8221; where the Kenyan company paid bills that the agency owed to other people. That made it appear that more money was going to African aid as opposed to bureaucratic overhead, and added a layer that concealed where the agency&#8217;s money was actually going.
&#8220;For example, when USADF needed to pay a past-due debt to a staffing vendor, Zahui directed the vendor to invoice Company-1 instead of USADF. Company-1 then invoiced USADF for the vendor’s past-due amount, but added a mark-up of over $20,000 to the amount owed. Zahui approved Company-1’s invoice even though he knew that Company-1 had provided no services related to the vendor’s work,&#8221; federal prosecutors in the office of U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro said.
Zahui has agreed to plead guilty to accepting gratuities and making a false statement to a federal law enforcement officer, after he lied to the USAID Office of Inspector General about having received the kickbacks. He could face up to seven years in prison.
“The USADF Director of Financial Management’s fraudulent acts betrayed the trust of the American people,” the USAID Office of Inspector General&#8217;s acting Assistant Inspector General for Investigations Sean M. Bottary said in a statement.
<h3>&#8220;When they show up, we didn&#8217;t let them in&#8221;</h3>
The Daily Wire broke the story of Zahui&#8217;s crimes in May after uncovering a search warrant for Zahui&#8217;s phone, granted by a D.C. judge in November 2024, during the Biden administration. The series, titled, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/this-foreign-aid-agency-locked-its-doors-to-keep-doge-out-now-we-know-why" target="_blank" rel="noopener">This Foreign Aid Agency Locked Its Doors To Keep DOGE Out. Now We Know Why.</a> included details that are redacted in charging papers, which refer to the company only as &#8220;Co-Conspirator 1.&#8221;
Zahui steered contracts and grants to a firm called Ganiam, which was run by a friend named Maina Gakure. Gakure and Zahui previously worked together for the Department of Veterans Affairs in California, where Gakure was in charge of contracts. Gakure later created his own company designed to exploit the government&#8217;s &#8220;8(a)&#8221; law, which allows minority-owned companies to get <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/alaska-republicans-secretly-working-to-protect-fraud-plagued-dei-program?author=Luke+Rosiak&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=3&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Alaska+Republicans+Secretly+Working+To+Protect+Fraud-Plagued+DEI+Program" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no-bid contracts</a>.
He also established an Africa-based version of the company, to which Zahui steered money. (One of the contracts was ostensibly for &#8220;travel&#8221; during COVID, when travel was shut down.) Each time Zahui awarded Gakure&#8217;s company a contract, Gakure would send Zahui kickbacks to his personal bank account, the disgraced CFO admitted in federal court.
The flow of money to Africa made it seem — to Congress, the public, and auditors — that the agency was fulfilling its mission. But Ganiam was actually used as a slush fund, with Gakure serving as an intermediary to pay bills elsewhere — including in D.C.
The Daily Wire interviewed Zahui at his home for nearly two hours in May, where the African immigrant spoke with indignation that his federal job might be ending.
&#8220;When they show up, we didn&#8217;t let them in,&#8221; he said of DOGE auditors. Eventually, the Trump administration changed the locks on the building, but Zahui gained access. &#8220;They forget, or they didn&#8217;t know there was a back door that they didn&#8217;t lock,&#8221; he said.
Zahui said that the agency had money scattered in bank accounts across Africa, and that he would frequently travel to tend to it. Some money that appeared on balance sheets as being sent to Africa was later redirected back to D.C., he acknowledged, saying, &#8220;a grant can pay for people, even if it&#8217;s not in Africa.&#8221;
&#8220;Ganiam was not a grant, it was a contract,&#8221; he said, before later acknowledging that Ganiam also received a grant. When asked how he knew Gakure, he said, &#8220;He was in D.C., it was bid, it was in the U.S. Then he returned home as a [sic] Africa diaspora, returning home, that&#8217;s it.&#8221;
&#8220;He has moved a long time ago. Very, very long time ago, okay, even before COVID,&#8221; he added. (Gakure&#8217;s Virginia-based minority contracting company received a COVID bailout from the federal government.) Zahui was hired as the CFO of a federal agency even though he declared personal bankruptcy, a fact he first denied, then admitted in the interview.
Gakure did not return a request for comment in May.
Sen. James Risch (R-ID), the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had for years documented serious irregularities at the African Development Foundation and pleaded for officials to reform the agency, saying that if they did not clean house, it risked the public losing faith in foreign aid more broadly. They failed to heed his warning, and his prediction came to pass, with the Trump administration abolishing USAID, the larger foreign aid agency, outright.
“This is a tremendous win for law and order,&#8221; Risch told The Daily Wire of Zahui&#8217;s guilty plea.
&#8220;What started in 2023 as a simple inquiry from my committee into questionable dealings at USADF will now become justice served,&#8221; he told The Daily Wire. &#8220;Corruption like we have seen at the USADF will not stand.&#8221; Risch has introduced a bill to abolish the agency.
<h3>Lawfare</h3>
After Trump&#8217;s election, the agency&#8217;s CEO, Travis Adkins, quit, leaving Zahui in charge as part of a three-person executive committee. President Donald Trump fired the board and named Pete Marocco, who oversaw the demolition of USAID, as chairman of the African Development Foundation.
But Zahui notified the White House that the federal agency would not be recognizing the Trump administration&#8217;s authority.
Remarkably, even after the Biden-era criminal investigation into Zahui was revealed by The Daily Wire, left-wing lawyers used the D.C. courts to ensure that Zahui remained in charge.
In June, a judge <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/d-c-judge-sides-with-trump-in-lawsuit-over-control-of-corrupt-foreign-aid-agency" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tossed out</a> a lawsuit filed by an ousted board member, finding that Trump had the right to fire the board. Lawyers from the same left-wing firm, Democracy Forward, then filed suit with a different plaintiff: a for-profit company in Zambia that said the U.S. government is its only customer.
The lawyers argued that abolishing ADF would be unfair to the company. In July, a judge ruled in their favor, imposing an<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-orders-foreign-aid-agency-resurrected-after-african-company-sues" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> injunction</a> that blocked Marocco from controlling the agency. Zahui was brought <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/foreign-aid-official-suspected-of-bribery-is-back-at-work-after-court-ruling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">back to work</a> as part of the three-person executive committee.
Because of a Supreme Court ruling limiting the breadth of injunctions, the ruling was later modified to only require that the specific Zambian firm, Rural Development Innovations Ltd., be paid, with Marocco free to otherwise axe the agency. This month, the Democracy Forward lawyers have been pleading with the judge that the ADF staff must be restored to work, so that the Zambian firm can call them for advice.
On Monday, the Trump administration filed court papers in that lawsuit saying that the Democracy Forward lawyers are seeking to &#8220;restore all 353 grants and forty-three contracts that Marocco cancelled as acting chair and rehire all sixteen employees that Marocco terminated.&#8221;
In December, a law firm run by a founder of Democracy Forward <a href="https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/72053925/adkins-v-daily-wire-llc/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sued The Daily Wire</a> and one of its alleged sources. The plaintiff is Adkins, who quit as the agency&#8217;s CEO after Donald Trump&#8217;s election. The lawsuit was leaked to The Daily Beast, which ran with the <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/federal-official-says-doge-and-maga-shattered-his-life-in-new-lawsuit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">headline</a>, &#8220;Federal Official Shows How DOGE and MAGA Shattered His Life In New Lawsuit.&#8221;
Though Adkins voluntarily quit before the Daily Wire stories, Adkins is seeking money, citing damages that he has not found a job willing to pay him $500,000 a year as he expected.
An email, provided by Adkins&#8217; attorneys, shows that after Zahui directed Gakure to wire $17,000 to Adkins&#8217; personal assistant, Adkins replied, &#8220;Thanks for this Mathieu &#8211; let us know what needs to be done next to fully resolve this matter.&#8221;
The alleged Daily Wire source being sued by Adkins is a black former ADF staffer who filed a sworn affidavit saying Adkins told her he “wanted all of his direct reports to be Black.” Atkins denies the allegations.
The agency&#8217;s onetime general counsel, Mateo Dunne, was placed on leave by Adkins after Dunne pointed out rampant misconduct.
“As General Counsel, I led an internal investigation that revealed substantial fraud, waste, and abuse. When I reported my findings, the agency retaliated and sought to destroy my career and reputation. Today I am fully vindicated. This is an indictment of an agency culture that facilitated corruption, punished integrity, and silenced dissent,” Dunne said.
A federal official familiar with ongoing investigations into USADF said USAID IG’s investigation said that &#8220;this case is the tip of the iceberg,&#8221; citing “corruption at the highest level in an agency entrusted to support impoverished communities in Africa.&#8221;
Marocco, who was put in charge of the ADF, told The Daily Wire that the agency &#8220;is a scam that delivers no value to the American taxpayer, and its budget should be zero.”
“We are investigating many alarming behaviors that demonstrate the agency’s defiance of the President, disregard for the taxpayers, arrogance and entitlement by bureaucrats and foreigners with no semblance of accountability, ridiculous waste, systemic abuse and crime,&#8221; Marocco said.
“USADF should be abolished, and there must be a post-mortem on this degenerate enterprise that operated under the guise of government ‘philanthropy,’” he said.
Though USAID has been abolished, its inspector general, which specializes in rooting out fraud in foreign grants, has 350 open investigations. Congress voted to give it purview over foreign aid disbursed by the State Department and other agencies.

President Donald Trump ordered the United States military to carry out strikes on ISIS targets in Africa on Christmas Day, saying that he had warned them to stop the systematic slaughter of Christians and they had not heeded that warning.
Trump shared the news first in a post to his Truth Social platform, saying that the War Department had — on his orders — carried out a number of &#8220;perfect strikes&#8221; on targets throughout Northwest Nigeria.

Genocide doesn’t begin with weapons, it starts with words.
I saw it firsthand in Rwanda back in the 1990s.
“Are you Tutsi, Hutu, or Twa?” asked the teacher. A confused little girl was being reprimanded for not lining up properly. The question didn’t just divide a room, it foreshadowed a genocide.
The girl’s family had never spoken of tribes, they simply believed in letting children be children. That day, however, tribalism entered her life. Soon after, her parents were killed in the 1994 Rwandan genocide that claimed nearly a million lives.
What I witnessed in Rwanda decades ago echoes in today’s digital age.
Today’s tribalism hides in plain sight and it doesn’t carry machetes, it carries hashtags. Tribalism thrives in echo chambers, where social media turns strangers into enemies. It grows through cancel culture, where conversations are replaced by condemnation. It sharpens its edge with purity tests, where one mistake erases forgiveness. These aren’t harmless trends, they’re cracks that can split nations. “Othering” people puts everyone at risk.
Division begins quietly, with whispers. It ends violently, with annihilation.
<h3>Warning Signs Are Flashing Again</h3>
Before the Holocaust, the Jews were first singled out by prejudice, then by propaganda, followed by policy, and finally punishment. 
In Cambodia, intellectuals were targeted. 
In Bosnia, ethnic lines became death sentences. 
In Rwanda, ethnic identity was weaponized.
But persecution isn’t just a history lesson. History’s warnings aren’t relics, they are roadmaps. And right now, those same patterns are resurfacing. Across the globe, from Nigeria to North Korea, Christians are being targeted for practicing their faith. In the first century, Christians were burned alive to light Rome’s streets; now, in Nigeria, Afghanistan, Sudan, and beyond, believers are killed en masse for the same confession of faith.
The numbers are sobering: Persecution is no longer a fringe issue. Today, more than 380 million Christians worldwide endure high levels of persecution, according to  <a href="https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/persecution/countries/">Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List</a>. In Nigeria alone, <a href="https://ewtn.co.uk/article-56000-killed-in-nigerias-ethnic-and-religious-violence-christians-disproportionately-affected/">16,769 Christians</a> have been killed in the last four years, a tragic pattern that has persisted since 2009.
Genocide never begins with weapons; it starts with whispers, quiet laws, subtle exclusions. If we fail to remember, fail to speak, fail to act, history will not just repeat; it will escalate. And that’s precisely why I’ll be joining other faith leaders to address the growing threat to Christians at the <a href="https://www.washingtonpolicyinstitute.org/events/persecuted-and-prevailing-addressing-christian-persecution-in-the-modern-world/">Persecuted and Prevailing</a> panel at the Museum of the Bible on December 4.
The suffering of Christians, or any group, must never be reduced to a talking point. Persecution is not a partisan issue, it’s a human dignity issue. Freedom is fragile, and its defense must unite us beyond party lines.
We must teach the next generation that ignorance breeds indifference and persecution isn’t political. It’s about human dignity, justice, and the value of life.
As Hebrews 13:3 reminds us: “Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.” That wisdom feels urgent today. Silence enables suffering, and ignoring persecution normalizes it.
<h3>Why I Speak Out</h3>
I speak not from theory, but from experience.
As a student in 1992, I lived in Russia as it staggered out of 70 years of enforced conformity under Communism. Freedom had returned, but trust was broken. Conversations carried a quiet grief, as an entire generation awoke to the truth that their God-given right to worship and think critically had been stolen. The devastation wasn’t only economic, it was spiritual and psychological.
That moment taught me that when lies become law and truth becomes treason, society unravels. Division doesn’t erupt overnight, it is cultivated through propaganda, fear, and silence. The lessons from Soviet Russia warn us that when words are weaponized, freedom dies long before the first shot is fired.
Years later, on the 10th anniversary of Rwanda’s genocide, I stood in villages still scarred by tribalism and visited prisons filled with remorseful men and women who’d been swept into the blindness of division. I met families led by children because their parents had been slaughtered. I worked to reunite Sudan’s “Lost Boys” with any family they had left after walking hundreds of miles to escape war. I remember their faces. I carry their stories. But my children and their entire generation don’t. They scroll headlines and hear fragments, but they don’t feel the weight of what I saw. That’s why I speak, and why we all should. If we don’t, history will whisper its warnings into an empty room.
<h3>The Choice Ahead</h3>
To Gen Z, educators, and parents, I say this: You hold the pen that writes tomorrow’s story. Will it be a tale of courage or complacency? Will we raise a generation that can spot propaganda, or one that repeats history’s mistakes?
Persecution anywhere is a threat to freedom everywhere. Our classrooms should teach more than dates and facts, they should teach empathy, vigilance, and responsibility. This is not about scoring political points or comparing pain. It’s about defending the dignity of every human life.
When we ignore any kind of persecution, we erode the foundation of freedom itself. History is not just a record of the past — it’s a warning for the future. Silence is not neutral — it’s surrender. And the cost of indifference is always paid in human lives.
The choice is ours. The time is now.
