The Trump campaign urged the presidential debate commission on Thursday to host four debates in the upcoming presidential election season, reportedly also asking the commission to host the first debate soon after Labor Day.
According to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/18/us/politics/trump-presidential-debates-2020.html">The New York Times</a>, three Trump affiliates attended the virtual meeting, including Rudy Giuliani, the president’s personal attorney, and Campaign Manager Brad Parscale, who told the news organization the campaign was looking for “fair debates” and wanted them to occur sooner and on a “bigger schedule.”
“As many Americans as possible need to see the stark differences between the accomplishments and leadership of President Trump and the failed record and sleepiness of Joe Biden,” said Parscale.
The Trump campaign also reportedly requested to share influence with the Biden campaign over who would serve as the debate moderator for each event, a move the debate commission has rejected, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-campaign-makes-pitch-for-fourth-debate-with-biden-amid-declining-poll-numbers/2020/06/18/bcc6b3ac-b19c-11ea-a567-6172530208bd_story.html">The Washington Post</a>.
Kate Bedingfield, deputy campaign manager for Biden, suggested to the Times in a statement that the Trump campaign was trying to “change the subject” to debates as a way of distracting from unfavorable polling.
“But there’s a catch: He’ll only do it if he can pick the moderators,” said Bedingfield. “We are not going to ride the roller coaster of the ever-changing Trump campaign position on debates, nor are we going to be distracted by his demands.”
The Post reports that the Trump campaign also requested that no debates be held on the same evenings as NFL games, a reference to the 2016 election when two of the three presidential debates were scheduled alongside football games.
When the Trump campaign raised the concern back in the summer of 2016, the commission <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-campaign-makes-pitch-for-fourth-debate-with-biden-amid-declining-poll-numbers/2020/06/18/bcc6b3ac-b19c-11ea-a567-6172530208bd_story.html">pushed back</a> against the idea it would reschedule the debates: &#8220;It is impossible to avoid all sporting events, and there have been nights on which debates and games occurred in most election cycles. A debate has never been rescheduled as a result.”
&#8220;As a point of reference, in a four-year period, there are four general-election debates (three presidential and one vice-presidential), and approximately 1,000 NFL games,” said the commission.
A <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox-news-poll-biden-widens-lead-over-trump-republicans-enthusiastic-but-fear-motivates-dems">Fox News poll</a> released on Thursday afternoon shows Biden leading Trump by 12 points, an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox-news-poll-biden-more-trusted-on-coronavirus-trump-on-economy">increase</a> of four points since the poll was conducted last month.
63% of those who plan to vote for Biden cited the fear of Trump winning re-election as their biggest motivator. Only 31% of people who plan to vote for Biden indicated they were motivated by excitement for the candidate himself.
On the other hand, 62% of people who plan to vote for Trump indicated that their excitement about the president was their biggest motivation. Only 33% reported that they were planning to vote for Trump out of fear that Biden would win the presidency.

Is Joe Biden experiencing dementia? That&#8217;s a question the pollsters at Zogby International posed to 1,007 &#8220;likely voters.&#8221;
The results were surprising: 55% said they think the former vice president, 77, &#8220;is in the early stages of dementia.&#8221;
&#8220;Overall, subgroups who normally approve of Trump&#8217;s job as president, were the most likely to believe Biden could be suffering from dementia,&#8221; the <a href="https://zogbyanalytics.com/news/943-the-zogby-poll-a-majority-of-voters-believe-biden-is-in-the-early-stages-of-dementia-60-of-younger-voters-think-so-swing-voters-less-likely-to-think-biden-has-dementia">poll found</a>. &#8220;Thus, majorities of Republicans (77% more likely/23% less likely) and Independents (56% more likely/44% less likely) thought Joe Biden had early-onset dementia; while nearly a third of Democrats (32% more likely/68% less likely) thought this was the case.”
&#8220;At the same time, some important subgroups did not believe the vice president was exhibiting a declining mental capacity. While a majority of men (60% more likely/40% less likely) thought it this was likely, women (50% more likely/50% less likely) were less likely to think that the vice president was in the early stages of dementia,&#8221; Zogby International wrote.
<blockquote>There was also an inverse relationship in the data between age and the likelihood of voters believing Biden had early-onset dementia, for example; as the age of voters increased the likelihood of voters believing Biden was exhibiting early-onset dementia decreased. Younger voters aged 18-24 (60% more likely/40% less likely) and 18-29 (59% more likely/41% less likely) were more likely to believe Biden had dementia than older voters aged 65+ (50% more likely/50% less likely).
Likely voters living in medium size cities (61% more likely/39% less likely) were more likely to believe Biden had dementia than voters living in the suburbs (52% more likely/48% less likely) and large cities (55% more likely/45% less likely). Suburban women (49% more likely/51% less likely) did not think Biden was mentally slipping but men living in urban areas (62% more likely/38% less likely) believed so.</blockquote>
President Trump has blasted Biden – who he calls &#8220;Sleepy Joe&#8221; – over his repeated verbal stumbles and memory lapses, calling him an old man who should be put in a retirement home.
&#8220;They are going to put him in a home and other people are going to be running the country,&#8221; Trump said in early March during a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina.
&#8220;Sleepy Joe,&#8221; Trump added, &#8220;he doesn&#8217;t even know where he is or what he&#8217;s doing or what office he&#8217;s running for. Honestly, I don&#8217;t think he knows what office he&#8217;s running for.&#8221;
Biden has sought to laugh off the reports.
During a May interview on Snapchat’s “Good Luck America” daily political show, Biden was asked by host Peter Hamby how he plans to “fight back” against the notion that he’s “old” and “kind of lame.”
“The Shorenstein Center up at Harvard did an analysis of all of the anti-Biden memes out there on the internet,” Hamby said. “According to them, the top three slogans they’re seeing, this is from the left and the right, are Dementia Joe, Sleepy Joe, Creepy Joe. Barack Obama reportedly said last week that his daughters had been showing him anti-Biden TikToks. Basically, there’s an entire discourse on the internet right now that’s painting you as creepy and old and out of touch and kind of lame. How do you fight back against that?”
Biden laughed, then said, &#8220;I can hardly wait to get onto the stage with Donald Trump. Look, I certainly miss being out on the trail connecting face-to-face to people. Trump is a master at laying nicknames on people.”
“But the vast majority of the voters out there, including young people, are not getting all their news from the internet,” he said. “But I’m trying to compete there. We’re getting started late in the comparative sense. One hundred and two million video views across social media platforms since mid-March for me.”

Poll: 55% Believe That Biden Potentially Has ‘Early Stages Of Dementia’

We all recall that in 2016, polls consistently showed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with a comfortable to commanding lead over then-candidate Donald Trump. On election day, however, Trump crushed Clinton in the Electoral College.
Polls again show Trump losing to presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden. Trump has taken to reminding people about what happened four years ago, saying the polls are underestimating him. Now Politico <a href="https://www.politico.com/amp/news/2020/06/17/trump-polls-biden-324210">appears to agree</a>.
While the outlet contends that pollsters aren’t “deliberately skewing their surveys against the president and his party,” but says they “are still grappling with the problems that plagued those polls four years ago.” The problem is particularly concerning with polls in battleground states, Politico reported.
“In fact, most pollsters believe that, on balance, state polls are overstating the scale of Biden’s advantage. That was precisely the problem in 2016: The national polls were largely accurate, to within the margin of error. But there were too few state polls, and many of those that were conducted failed to collect accurate data, especially from white voters without college degrees in key swing states,” the outlet reported. “And those issues haven’t been fixed.”
Courtney Kennedy, director of research at the Pew Research Center, told Politico that concerns from 2016 are still valid.
“I would say that most, if not all, of the concerns that we expressed still hold — some to a lesser degree,” said Courtney Kennedy, who also helped write about the issues the polling industry faced in 2016. “But I think some of the fundamental, structural challenges that came to a head in 2016 are still in place in 2020.”

GOP pollster Glen Bolger told the outlet he believed pollsters also failed to get Trump voters to respond accurately to polls, fearing judgment or retribution.
“I don’t know how big the effect is. I also don’t know what the ratio is between it being ‘shy Trump’ voters and interviewing too many college graduates and not enough non-college grads,” Bolger told Politico. “But I do think those are factors in some of the polls that show a particularly wide lead for Biden at this point in time. And I do think that things will be closer in the states than the polls indicate right now.”

Former President George W. Bush plans to headline a fundraiser later this month on behalf of Senators Martha McSally (R-AZ), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Susan Collins (R-ME), four incumbents who have found themselves in highly competitive Senate races.
The event, which will be hosted on June 30 by the Republican Senatorial Committee, will grant attendees who contribute $2,800 the option to attend a virtual event, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/george-w-bush-to-host-virtual-fundraiser-for-republican-senators/2020/06/17/197694e2-b0c5-11ea-856d-5054296735e5_story.html">The Washington Post</a>. Any donors who contribute at least $25,000 can also attend a roundtable discussion.
Back in late March, <a href="https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/new-polls-and-new-candidates-are-giving-democrats-some-hope-of-flipping-the-senate/">FiveThirtyEight</a> ranked each of the Senators’ races as some of the most competitive, noting that each was a “toss-up,” with the exception of the Maine Senate race, which the polling analysis website observed was a “toss-up/likely” Republican seat.
Bush’s decision to headline a fundraiser comes as he’s been seemingly taking a more active role in public life, compared to his relative silence after leaving office. In the last few months, the former president has addressed the nation about coronavirus ⁠— in a video message encouraging compassion and unity ⁠— and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bush-condemns-brutal-suffocation-of-george-floyd-says-lasting-justice-will-only-come-by-peaceful-means">spoken out</a> against “systemic racism” after the death of George Floyd.
“It remains a shocking failure that many African Americans, especially young African American men, are harassed and threatened in their own country. It is a strength when protesters, protected by responsible law enforcement, march for a better future,” said the former president.
Bush also added: “This tragedy — in a long series of similar tragedies — raises a long overdue question: How do we end systemic racism in our society? The only way to see ourselves in a true light is to listen to the voices of so many who are hurting and grieving. Those who set out to silence those voices do not understand the meaning of America — or how it becomes a better place.”
The New York Times recently <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/06/us/politics/trump-biden-republicans-voters.html">reported</a> that Bush would not vote for Trump in the upcoming presidential election, nor would his younger brother Jeb, citing “people familiar with their thinking.” However, this was disputed by Freddy Ford, George W. Bush’s spokesperson, who <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2020/06/06/george-w-bush-donald-trump/">called</a> the Times’ assertion “completely made up.”
While the former Republican president hasn’t waded into the presidential race, former President Barack Obama is moving full speed ahead on former Vice President Joe Biden’s prospects. According to <a href="https://www.axios.com/obama-fundraiser-debut-biden-grassroots-e83ba5d9-6a56-485c-970f-33d485b5a007.html">Axios</a>, Trump’s predecessor plans to hold a fundraiser on behalf of Biden on June 23, and “tens of thousands of small-dollar donors” have reportedly been invited, or will be invited to the virtual event.

The NAACP and Anti-Defamation League are leading a pressure campaign against Facebook to more strictly censor content on the platform.
The civil rights groups are partnering with a handful of other progressive activist organizations to pressure Facebook to censor user content deemed to be “promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism and violence.” The progressive ad-targeting group <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2018/07/16/sleeping-giants-founder-rivitz/">Sleeping Giants</a>, media-advocacy groups Free Press and Common Sense Media, and the civil-rights group Color of Change are all contributing to the effort.
The progressive coalition published a full-page ad in The Los Angeles Times on Wednesday calling on businesses to “stand in solidarity” and boycott Facebook through the month of July. The ad calls on companies to pull advertising off the platform unless Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg agrees to ramp up his censorship of “hateful” content.
“Facebook remains unwilling to take significant steps to remove political propaganda from its platform,” NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson said in a <a href="https://www.adl.org/news/press-releases/adl-naacp-sleeping-giants-common-sense-free-press-and-color-of-change-call-for">statement</a> announcing the pressure campaign. “It is clear that Facebook and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, are no longer simply negligent, but in fact, complacent in the spread of misinformation, despite the irreversible damage to our democracy. Such actions will upend the integrity of our elections as we head into 2020.”
“We will not stand for this. While we recognize the value that Facebook provides in connecting people of color with one another, we call into question a platform that profits from the suppression of Black votes or Black voices,” Johnson continued.
The campaign follows Zuckerberg&#8217;s declaration of his commitment to maintaining a platform that promotes “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/facebook-employees-stage-virtual-walkout-to-protest-ceo-zuckerbergs-stance-on-trump-posts">free expression</a>.”
“Our position is that we should enable as much expression as possible unless it will cause imminent risk of specific harms or dangers spelled out in clear policies,” Zuckerberg said in a Friday Facebook post on President Trump&#8217;s “divisive and inflammatory rhetoric.”
“People can agree or disagree on where we should draw the line, but I hope they understand our overall philosophy is that it is better to have this discussion [about state use of force to curb violent riots] out in the open, especially when the stakes are so high,” Zuckerberg said. “I disagree strongly with how the President spoke about this, but I believe people should be able to see this for themselves, because ultimately accountability for those in positions of power can only happen when their speech is scrutinized out in the open.”

Hundreds of employees reportedly revolted in the company over Zuckerberg&#8217;s Friday post, refusing to work in order to show solidarity with protests in the wake of George Floyd&#8217;s death in Minneapolis on Memorial Day. Floyd died after a Minneapolis police officer used his knee to pin Floyd’s neck to the ground for nearly nine minutes.

Longtime Democratic politicians have been rushing to save sixteen-term Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY) from primary challenger Jamaal Bowman, a left-wing-backed candidate who is now <a href="https://prospect.org/politics/eliot-engel-down-double-digits-new-poll-jamaal-bowman/">polling</a> ten points higher than Engel, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. 
While Bowman has been endorsed by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Engel has racked up a litany of endorsements from establishment Democrats. In the last few days alone, these endorsements include House Intelligence Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), Majority Whip Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
The flood of support suggests that Democrats fear that Engel, who has <a href="https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/06/jamaal-bowman-takes-the-lead.html">reportedly</a> not had a serious primary challenge in 20 years, may suffer the same political fate as former Congressman Joe Crowley, who was the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus when he lost a primary challenge to the then-politically unknown AOC. 
Engel has been facing scrutiny for the lack of presence in his district, as highlighted by <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/05/eliot-engel-new-york-coronavirus/611611/">Atlantic</a> journalist Edward Isaac-Dovere, who reported that Engel was hunkered down near the capital while insisting, during in-person conversation with Isaac-Dovere at his Maryland home, that he was also quarantined in New York.
<blockquote>“I’m in both places,” Engel said.
“You are?” I asked.
“I sure am,” he said.
“You’ve been quarantined in both places?”
“Sure have.”</blockquote>
Engel’s office also advertised the congressman as participating in two local events, although The Atlantic reports that he didn’t. For one of them, Engel maintained the following day that he participated in the event, a mask distribution, despite allegedly not actually attending in-person.
As <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hot-mic-dem-congressman-begs-to-speak-at-new-york-press-conference-gets-shut-down?%3Futm_source=facebook&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=cnews">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported, Engel made an appearance in New York City after the Atlantic report dropped, but made headlines over a viral hot mic moment during which the congressman begged an event organizer to let him speak, seemingly so that his constituents would see that he actually attended.
“If I didn’t have a primary, I wouldn’t care,” Engel told the organizer, who asked him to repeat himself, prompting the congressman to say it again: “If I didn’t have a primary, I wouldn’t care.”
“Don’t do that to me, we’re not going to do this,” the organizer told Engel in response to his begging. <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/02/us/politics/eliot-engel-new-york.html">The New York Times</a> reported that the event organizer also added: “Everybody has a primary, you know that.”
Politico <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/04/pelosi-engel-new-york-primary-301507">reports</a> that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-NY) endorsed Engel two days later.
According to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/17/nyregion/eliot-engel-jamaal-bowman-primary.html">The New York Times</a>, which reported Wednesday that “Top Democrats Are Trying To Stop This Man From Becoming The Next A.O.C.,” Bowman has highlighted Engel’s district attendance as a reason he shouldn’t be re-elected.
“He doesn’t live in our community,” said Bowman. “I live in our struggles.”
Engel, who reportedly purchased his Maryland home in 1988, believes these criticisms are unfounded.
“I work in Washington and he’s going to deny me a place to sleep?” said Engel, who added, “you can’t stay on the, sleep on the streets.”

At Tuesday night’s Colorado Senate Democratic primary debate, former Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) used his experience in the restaurant business to explain – albeit awkwardly – how he would be able to reach compromised solutions in Washington, D.C.
“I learned in the restaurant business that – you know, I’ve never changed anyone’s mind about anything that mattered by telling them why I was right and why they were wrong. Where you get progress is when you hear people. In the restaurant business, we’d repeat back their exact words when they’re angry, so they feel validated,” Hickenlooper said. “And that’s how we got the oil and gas industry to work with the environmental community to create the first methane regulations in the country, rolled out as national policy in Canada and the United States until, you know, President Trump and Cory Gardner support rolled it back.”
Left out of his restaurant story is the fact that Hickenlooper’s restaurant and his policies regarding Sanctuary Cities and illegal immigrants led to the hiring of Raul Gomez-Garcia, who entered the U.S. illegally and spent most of his time here working for Hickenlooper’s restaurant before killing one cop and injuring another.
Gomez-Garcia killed Detective Donald Young and wounded Detective John Bishop on May 8, 2005 at a Denver dance hall. Garcia-Gomez was an illegal immigrant who used a fake social security number to obtain employment at the Cherry Cricket, a restaurant owned by Hickenlooper, who was at that time the mayor of Denver.
The day after the murder, Gomez-Garcia went into work at the restaurant as if nothing happened. He then fled to Mexico where he was arrested less than a month later on June 4, 2005. At this trial, Gomez-Garcia’s attorney tried to argue that he didn’t mean to kill Young and that he only wanted to wound the officers, The Denver Post <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2005/06/04/cop-killer-suspect-held/">reported</a> at the time. Police alleged, however, that Gomez-Garcia shot at the officers from behind after they refused to let him re-enter the dance hall. The two officers were off duty but wearing their uniforms.
Gomez-Garcia claimed that he had seen the officers wearing protective vests, but admitted under cross-examination that he had never seen the vests. In court, Gomez-Garcia said he “tried to shoot them so they would not die,” the Post <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2006/09/15/gomez-garcias-life-story-led-to-shooting/">reported</a>. Prosecutor Bruce Levin reminded Gomez-Garcia that he “shot them when they were defenseless.” Gomez-Garcia responded: “Yes, I was angry and not thinking of the consequences.”
U.S. Marshal Jose Chavarria, as well as two Mexican federal agents, testified that Gomez-Garcia was excited to learn one of the cops had died.
“He said he hoped it was the bigger one (Young) because that was the one who choked him,” Chavarria testified, according to the Post.
Mexican federal agent Oswaldo Iracheta-Lopez testified that Gomez-Garcia’s first question to them was about which officer died. When he found out it was Young, he told the officers, “That’s the one I wanted to die because that was the one that hurt me,” the agent testified.
In October 2006, Gomez-Garcia received the maximum sentence allowed: 80 years in prison.
Hickenlooper has never reconciled his policies with Gomez-Garcia’s crimes.

Joe Biden, the Democrats&#8217; presumptive pick for their 2020 presidential contender, is already on thin ice with anti-racism activists after resisting the push to embrace calls to &#8220;defund&#8221; and disband police departments, but now Black Lives Matter is concerned Biden may be about to select an ex-cop as his running mate.
Among Biden&#8217;s top picks is Rep. Val Demings (D-FL), a two-term Florida Congresswoman best known for being one of several legislators selected to lead the House team prosecuting President Donald Trump&#8217;s Senate impeachment trial, and she has reportedly made it to the second round of vetting, <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/06/13/joe-biden-considering-ex-cop-as-veep-amid-calls-to-defund-the-police/">per the New York Post.</a>
&#8220;But Demings’ 27 years in the Orlando Police Department, where she rose from beat cop to first female chief, are complicating things,&#8221; the outlet reports.
Demings rose from beat cop to chief of police in Orlando, Florida, over the course of two decades, but in the four years she was the Orlando Police Department&#8217;s top administrator she &#8220;was frequently embroiled in excessive-force controversies, and she repeatedly defended the actions of officers.&#8221;
That&#8217;s a big problem for organizations like Black Lives Matter, who are currently at the forefront of American politics and setting the terms of the national conversation on race relations and law enforcement, particularly on the left and among Democrats.
“Joe Biden would be an idiot to put her on his ticket. People are already on the fence about him,” Hawk Newsome, chairman of Black Lives Matter, Greater New York chapter, told media. “When black people become police officers, they are no longer black. They are blue. And I have been told this by numerous officers.”
On at least two occasions, Demings&#8217; officers slammed a suspect so hard they sustained permanent physical damage, and, the Post says, an in-depth, independent review of the Orlando Police Department found that “rogue cops operate with impunity, and there’s nothing anybody who finds himself at the wrong end of their short fuse can do about it.”
Demings has defended her record.
“Looking for a negative story in a police department is like looking for a prayer at church,” Demings wrote in an op-ed for the Orlando Sentinel. “I believe a reasonable person also understands that a few seconds (even on video) rarely capture the entire set of circumstances.”
That may be a reasonable approach to questions about the use of force, but it&#8217;s unlikely to satisfy activists looking for a quick, acceptable response on race relations. And her logic may imperil her chance to be Biden&#8217;s running mate, even though her lack of name recognition and national presence would give Biden&#8217;s team the opportunity to approach the campaign with less baggage than if they selected a more openly divisive candidate, like Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) or Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

During an interview on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ja8QEp0SkA">Fox News</a> with Harris Faulkner, President Donald Trump responded to presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s speculation that the president may try to steal the election, or that the military may need to escort Trump out of the White House if he loses the election but refuses to leave.
“Look, Joe’s not all there, everybody knows it,” Trump told Faulkner, after he explained that he hadn’t heard of Biden’s remarks until she told him about them. “It’s sad when you look at it, and you see it for yourself. He’s created his own sanctuary city in the basement of wherever he is, and he doesn’t come out.”
Trump then responded directly to the comments: “And certainly if I don’t win, I don’t win. I mean, you know, go on and do other things. I think it would be a very sad thing for our country.”
Biden made <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-warns-trump-will-steal-this-election-predicts-military-may-have-to-remove-trump-from-white-house?itm_source=parsely-api">the remarks</a> on Thursday during an appearance on “The Daily Show” with host Trevor Noah, where he cited recent rebuttals from former military officials to support his claim that the United States wouldn’t stand for Trump staying in the White House and flouting the results of the general election. Biden also said: &#8220;This president&#8217;s going to try to steal this election.&#8221;
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany later responded to Biden&#8217;s remarks by saying Trump is looking forward to November, she and accused the Democratic Party of grandstanding and leveling “conspiracy theories.”
As <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-says-trump-will-try-to-delay-election-wapo-columnist-over-the-line">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported, Biden was sharply criticized for similar election remarks he made in April, including from columnists at mainstream media sites such as The Washington Post and CNN.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has also offered conspiracy theories about Trump potentially engaging in election-time antics, including a peculiar statement she made about Jared Kushner, an advisor and the president’s son-in-law, and the date of the presidential election in response to the New York Times headline: “Kushner, Law Aside, Doesn’t Rule Out Moving 2020 Election.”
“I can’t believe I have to write this sentence, but the president’s son-in-law doesn’t get to decide when the election is,” said Clinton in a tweet posting a link to the article.

However, the Times&#8217; article she linked specifically mentioned, twice, including once in the very first sentence, that White House staffers don’t decide when the general election gets to take place, as it&#8217;s an event with a date determined by federal law.
In a statement to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/12/us/politics/kushner-election-november.html">The New York Times</a>, Kushner later clarified that he has “not been involved in, nor am I aware of, any discussions about trying to change the date of the presidential election.”

“We had previously scheduled our<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/MAGA?src=hashtag_click"> #MAGA</a> Rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for June 19th – a big deal,” said Trump. “Unfortunately, however, this would fall on the Juneteenth Holiday. Many of my African American friends and supporters have reached out to suggest that we consider changing the date out of respect for this holiday, and in observance of this important occasion and all that it represents.

The Trump campaign’s original decision to hold the rally on Juneteenth was met with sharp criticism, with Congresswoman Val Demings, a prospective vice presidential candidate for Trump&#8217;s opponent Joe Biden, arguing that holding the rally on that date, “at the site of the worst racist violence in American history,” was a message to the black community that Trump represents “more of the same.”

Presumptive Democratic nominee Biden also hit Trump over the decision: “He’s going down to Texas on Juneteenth, right? The first major massacre, literally speaking, of Black Wall Street, years ago.”
Biden’s invocation of “Black Wall Street” is a reference to the Tulsa race massacre, between May 31 and June 1, 1921, during which a white mob razed a predominantly black neighborhood, including 1,200 homes and the Black Wall Street business district, when rumors spread that a black man had tried to rape a white woman — an allegation that also made its way into an inflammatory newspaper article before the violence started. 
As many as 300 people were killed, and a commission-issued <a href="https://www.okhistory.org/research/forms/freport.pdf">report</a> on the massacre eight decades later concluded that the most likely explanation for what happened between the man and the woman was that he stepped on her foot, and when she screamed, he ran away. 
During an interview with <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/trump-tulsa-rally-juneteenth-its-celebration">Fox News</a> on Thursday, Trump told Harris Faulkner, who is African American, that it should be thought of as a celebration. When Faulkner interjected that it was scheduled for Emancipation day, Trump signaled they were both on the same page: &#8220;The fact that I’m having a rally on that day, you can really think about that very positively as a celebration because a rally to me is a celebration.”

Trump Reschedules Comeback Rally On Juneteenth To ‘Honor’ Requests That He Move It

Liberals are beginning to swagger around as if the 2020 election is already over. Eugene Robinson at The Washington Post exclaimed that President Donald Trump&#8217;s reelection campaign is &#8220;beginning to look like the Titanic.&#8221; Joe Biden should be preparing his inauguration remarks.
One reason for this arrogance is the absolutely punishing media coverage of Trump. The coronavirus pandemic did what some might have thought was impossible: made Trump coverage even more negative. Rich Noyes of the Media Research Center found that from March 4 (when Joe Biden had basically wrapped up the Democratic nomination) through May 31, Trump coverage on the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts was 94% negative. In May, it was 99.5% negative, an all-time low.
There were 474 evaluative comments about President Trump during this period, and 445 were negative. By contrast, there were only 85 evaluations of Biden, and 51 were negative (61%). They were nine times more negative about Trump.
This sounds a lot like the warp and woof of the 2016 campaign coverage, during which Trump drew the lion&#8217;s share of media attention and it was overwhelmingly negative, while Hillary Clinton seemed like an afterthought. Even in the last three months of the campaign, Trump was evaluated four times as much as Clinton.
The Democrats thought that made her a shoo-in. It didn&#8217;t turn out that way.
Here&#8217;s the problem for them. Anyone who has spent time with these networks knows they have a throbbing, swelling urge to destroy Trump politically. They can&#8217;t possibly be considered &#8220;referees&#8221; of presidential campaigns. One reason they&#8217;ve been so angry about the fate of &#8220;democracy&#8221; is they can&#8217;t stand it when voters ignore their incessant advice.
Jonah Goldberg recently wrote a column in which he argued Trump must think his voters are idiots since he proclaims he is running against the media instead of Biden. Obviously, the media aren&#8217;t on the ballot. But Biden&#8217;s attacks on the president cannot possibly match the media&#8217;s 24/7 aggression and firepower. They are not some irrelevant bystanders, especially now that Biden is campaigning from a cold computer screen.
Their protective coverage of Lovable Grandpa Joe is just as transparent. Noyes reported that ABC, CBS and NBC could barely muster three minutes of airtime on how Biden told black voters, &#8220;If you have a problem figuring out whether you&#8217;re for me or Trump, then you ain&#8217;t black.&#8221; NBC gave it a few seconds. ABC and CBS both rushed to &#8220;balance&#8221; the story with negative Trump news. CBS showed Biden was leading among black voters, 90% to 3%.
When it broke that Biden, in his last days as vice president, joined a list of other Obama officials requesting the &#8220;unmasking&#8221; of an American who turned out to be incoming Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn — which led to a smear about the former Army major general being a Russian pawn — the story drew merely 62 seconds of coverage: 55 seconds on ABC, 7 seconds on CBS and none on NBC. Voters who rely on these cynics for &#8220;news&#8221; wouldn&#8217;t even understand the Big Picture: that Team Obama improperly spied on the Trump campaign and was still trying to ruin Trump&#8217;s presidency during the transition.
Biden&#8217;s TV interviews are littered with please-trash-Trump questions, such as this beaut from MSNBC&#8217;s Brian Williams: &#8220;What is President Trump&#8217;s level of culpability — what&#8217;s his level of responsibility, say, toward the illness and fatalities we&#8217;re witnessing every few minutes these days?&#8221;
This sums up the tone of the latest evening news: How many Americans has Trump killed? They hope their nightly onslaughts demoralize Trump voters and energize Biden backers. But to many Americans, this is not journalism. It&#8217;s badly disguised campaign advertising.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced on Thursday that the party has moved its celebration of the re-nomination of President Donald Trump to Jacksonville, Florida, after running into problems in North Carolina.
The Charlotte Observer <a href="https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/rnc-2020/article243453231.html">reported</a> that the official business of the convention will still take place in Charlotte this August, but after the first day, the remaining three days of the event will take place in Jacksonville.
&#8220;We are thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion in the great city of Jacksonville,&#8221; McDaniel said in a statement.  &#8220;Not only does Florida hold a special place in President Trump’s heart as his home state, but it is crucial in the path to victory in 2020.  We look forward to bringing this great celebration and economic boon to the Sunshine State in just a few short months.&#8221;
The RNC said in a statement that it moved the celebration portion of the convention because Democrat Governor Roy Cooper &#8220;refused to provide assurances&#8221; that the celebration could take place in Charlotte due to social distancing measures over the coronavirus pandemic, which originated in China.
The move could generate over $100 million in revenue for Jacksonville, the AP <a href="https://apnews.com/79a9c3b999f908fffb218bc0c8afd69d">reported</a>, adding that the city has a population of 1.5 million people and is home to a major military base.
Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) responded to the news in a tweet, writing: &#8220;I’m biased, but this is a great choice! The state of Florida and the city of Jacksonville are ready and excited to host President @realDonaldTrump for the fun part of the Republican Convention. It’s the first step towards a big win in November!&#8221;

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden struggled at times during an economic reopening event in Philadelphia on Thursday where he spoke on racial issues that have been sparked by the death of George Floyd.
At one point during the lengthy discussion, Biden said that Floyd&#8217;s death was having a bigger impact than the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
&#8220;I came back from law school when Dr. King was assassinated,&#8221; Biden said. &#8220;And when I came back, my city is the only city in America occupied by the National Guard since Reconstruction, because a significant portion was burned to the ground.&#8221;
&#8220;But even Dr. King’s assassination did not have the worldwide impact that George Floyd’s death did,&#8221; Biden continued. &#8220;Because just like television changed the Civil Rights Movement for the better when they saw Bull Connor and his dogs ripping the clothes off of elderly black women going to church and fire hoses ripping the skin off of young kids – all those folks around the country who didn’t have any black populations heard about this, but didn’t believe it but they saw it. It was impossible to close their eyes. Well, with George Floyd, what happened to George Floyd, now you got how many people around the country? Millions of cellphones. It’s changed the way everybody’s looking at this. Look at the millions of people marching around the world, the world.&#8221;

Echoing conspiracy theorists, including failed 2016 presidential contender Hillary Clinton, Biden explained vague comments he&#8217;d made previously, telling &#8220;Daily Show&#8221; host Trevor Noah that he believes Trump will not accept a loss at the ballot box and that the president will try to create chaos around the election.
“This president&#8217;s going to try to steal this election,” Biden said.
The answer was in reference to the Georgia primary, held Tuesday, which turned into an unqualified disaster after confused voters submitted mail-in ballots and precincts were reordered and moved.
“This is a guy who said that all mail-in ballots are fraudulent, voting by mail, while he sits behind the desk in the Oval Office and writes his mail-in ballot to vote in the primary,” Biden added.
Support for voting via absentee ballot is, of course, different from supporting a fully mail-in election, and even Twitter, which fact-checked the president&#8217;s claims of vote fraud stemming from mail-in elections, admitted that there are problems with vote-by-mail programs. The president and other Republican officials have expressed concerns that Democrats are looking to sow confusion and manipulate November&#8217;s election results by pressing for a fully mail-in vote.
Biden and others, like Clinton, have previously expressed concern that President Trump may try to &#8220;move&#8221; the November elections over fears of a second wave of coronavirus infections. Since the presidential election date is set by Federal law as the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, such a move would require an act of Congress &#8212; a Congress that is none too friendly to the president.
Biden did express hope, though, that if Trump resisted an unfavorable election outcome that the United States military would conspire to forcibly eject him from the White House.
“You have four chiefs of staff coming out and ripping the skin off of Trump, and so many rank-and-file military personnel saying, ‘Whoa, we&#8217;re not a military state. This is not who we are,’&#8221; Biden said. &#8220;I promise you, I&#8217;m absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch.&#8221;
There is no indication that Trump would refuse to accept election results declaring Biden the winner. White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany went further on Fox News Thursday morning, calling Biden a conspiracy theorist.
&#8220;This president is looking forward to November. This president is hard at work for the American people,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And leave it to Democrats to grandstand and level these conspiracy theories.&#8221;

Biden Warns Trump Will ‘Steal This Election,’ Predicts Military May Have To Remove Trump From White House

Last week, Democratic Senate candidate John Hickenlooper was found in violation of a state ban on accepting personal gifts while in office. This week he is blaming those violations on Republicans.
Hickenlooper, the former governor and a failed presidential candidate, accepted a flight on a campaign donor’s private jet and the use of a Maserati limousine while attending a conference in Italy while he was governor, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-senate-candidate-violated-ethics-by-accepting-personal-gifts-committee-rules">reported</a>. Hickenlooper was found guilty of ethics violations by the Colorado Independent Ethics Commission, yet he now blames the violations on Republicans.
The Washington Free Beacon <a href="https://freebeacon.com/2020-election/hickenlooper-blames-ethics-violations-charges-on-republicans/">reported</a> that Hickenlooper referred to his ethics conviction as Republican “smear attacks” during the Democratic Senate primary debate in Colorado on Tuesday.
&#8220;These allegations were waged by a dark-money Republican group and they&#8217;re going to lay attacks and millions of dollars of smear ads against whoever the Democratic candidate is,&#8221; Hickenlooper said after his primary opponent, former Democratic Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, demanded he drop out of the race.
As noted by the Free Beacon, the “allegations against Hickenlooper were first submitted to the nonpartisan commission in 2018 by the Public Trust Institute, a watchdog group founded by former Republican Colorado House speaker Frank McNulty.”
The Ethics Commission, however, is not partisan.
Romanoff said Hickenlooper was “the first person ever held in contempt by an independent ethics commission&#8221; after the former governor initially refused to testify at the hearing despite a subpoena.
&#8220;Now, when he breaks the law, [he] refuses to apologize, defies a subpoena,&#8221; Romanoff said at the debate. &#8220;You heard John blame the Republicans, you heard him blame the staff, I suppose he even blames the [ethics] commission, which includes his own appointees who ruled against him.&#8221;

“The verdict in the case — the <a href="https://coloradosun.com/2020/06/03/hickenlooper-ethics-complaint-explained/">state’s most high-profile ethics trial</a> since voters approved the ban in 2006 — came after a two-day hearing that <a href="https://coloradosun.com/2020/06/04/hickenlooper-contempt-ethics-commission/">started dramatically</a> with Hickenlooper refusing to testify and being held in contempt. The commission delayed a decision about potential sanctions for the ethics violations and the contempt charge to June 12, but he faces a fine that amounts to double the benefits he received,” the Sun reported.
Commission member and former U.S. attorney Bill Leone, who voted to find Hickenlooper in violation, told the Sun that if the candidate’s actions were allowed to go unchecked, voters would lose confidence in the government.
“If we allow this kind of special privately financed treatment for elected officials, it just accentuates the cynicism in the public that led to <a href="https://coloradosun.com/2020/06/03/hickenlooper-ethics-complaint-explained/">Amendment 41</a>,” Leone said.

A <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/312572/trump-job-approval-slides.aspx">Gallup</a> poll released on Wednesday says that the president’s approval rating is currently at 39%, including 85% approval among Republicans, 39% approval among independents, and 5% approval among Democrats. Trump has averaged about a 40% approval rating throughout his term, per the polling agency.
Earlier this week, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/06/us/politics/trump-biden-republicans-voters.html">The New York Times</a> said that Romney was one of several high-profile Republicans who wouldn’t vote for Trump in the general election, in a report citing “people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to disclose private discussions.”

&#8220;I wrote in the name of a person who I admire deeply, who I think would be an excellent president,&#8221; said Romney at the time. &#8220;I realized it wasn&#8217;t going to go anywhere, but nonetheless felt that I was putting in a very solid name.&#8221;

Romney Predicts Trump Headed For Re-Election, Won’t Say Who He’ll Vote For

President Trump&#8217;s raucous and often overflowing rallies draw tens of thousands of people, but the president hasn&#8217;t held one since March 2, first because of the pandemic and later because of racial strife.
But that&#8217;s all going to change soon.
&#8220;We&#8217;re going to start our rallies back up now,&#8221; Trump told reporters Wednesday at the White House. &#8220;We&#8217;ve had a tremendous run at rallies. &#8230; It&#8217;s been an amazing thing to behold.&#8221;
The president will hold a slew of re-election campaign rallies, mostly in swing states, starting next week. First, he&#8217;ll head to Tulsa, Oklahoma. “They’ve done a great job with COVID, as you know, in the state of Oklahoma,&#8221; Trump said, making the announcement during a roundtable with African American supporters that wasn&#8217;t on his official public schedule.
But the president doesn&#8217;t have to worry much about that state – he won there by 36 percentage points in 2016.
Trump will then hold rallies in Florida, Texas, North Carolina, and Arizona, the dates of which have not yet been released. Three of those are considered swing states, although political pollsters say Texas still looks like a red state, at least for 2020.
“We’re going into North Carolina at the appropriate time. The governor’s a little backward there, a little bit behind,&#8221; Trump said.
Just before Trump&#8217;s announcement, his re-election campaign released a video of clips from rallies, announcing that &#8220;this month, we&#8217;re back.&#8221;
On Tuesday, he teased the restart of his campaign, writing on Twitter, &#8220;BIG DEMAND! Starting up again soon, maybe next week!&#8221;

At the White House on Wednesday, Trump also said he had &#8220;no choice” but to move the Republican convention from its planned location in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“We’ll see how it all works out, but the governor doesn’t want to give an inch,&#8221; Trump said, adding that “many, many states” would like to have the convention, naming Texas, Georgia, and Florida.
Last week, Trump claimed that North Carolina&#8217;s governor, Democrat Roy Cooper, and other officials, “refuse to guarantee that we can have use of the Spectrum Arena” and were not “allowing us to occupy the arena as originally anticipated and promised.”
“Because of @NC_Governor, we are now forced to seek another State to host the 2020 Republican National Convention,” he wrote on Twitter.
The president also announced that he would be going to Dallas on Thursday, where he plans a conversation about race relations and policing.
Trump “will participate in a roundtable with faith leaders, law enforcement officials, and small business owners to discuss solutions to historic economic, health, and justice disparities in American communities,” the White House said Wednesday.
On Saturday, Trump will travel to West Point to give the commencement address. &#8220;The cadets wanted that very much,&#8221; he said.

Georgia’s rollout of new voting machines went poorly in several counties Tuesday as poll workers struggled to use the new equipment.
Polling sites in Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties experienced severe delays and long lines for residents attempting to vote in primary elections, the first state-wide contests using the new system. Many voters gave up early and went home without casting a ballot, according to <a href="https://www.ajc.com/news/state--regional-govt--politics/new-voting-machines-cause-lines-and-problems-georgia-election-day/j8UMCg2RisHAyXSJltZ9hO/">The Atlanta Journal-Constitution</a>.
Georgia spent over $100 million transitioning to a new voting company, Dominion Voting Systems, late last year. The new system marked a return to paper ballots in the state for the first time in 18 years.
Statewide Voting Implementation Manager Gabriel Sterling said the delays were caused by poll workers being unfamiliar with the system and blamed leadership for not training workers adequately.
“So far we have no reports of any actual equipment issues,” Sterling said. “We have reports of poll workers not understanding setup or how to operate voting equipment. While these are unfortunate, they are not issues of the equipment but a function of counties engaging in poor planning, limited training and failures of leadership.”
Still, Georgia election officials appeared to dodge a mess like what happened in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/update-the-final-official-iowa-democrat-delegate-count-and-what-it-means">Iowa Democratic primary</a> in February where a series of mistakes and mishaps led to a nearly week-long delay in final results. Most in-person ballots in Georgia were counted by late Tuesday night.
Election results may take days to finalize, however, as Georgia election officials continue to count a record number of mail-in ballots. Over 1.1 million Georgians <a href="https://www.ajc.com/news/state--regional-govt--politics/vote-counting-continues-after-problems-georgia-primary/fKGdKvpG5Y93iKCwguzamJ/">chose</a> to vote by mail, an indication that many are still wary of the coronavirus that scientists have yet to find an effective treatment or vaccine for.
Iowa’s primary took place before state governors declared states of emergency over the outbreak of Covid-19 and instituted widespread shutdowns. The fiasco in Iowa began after Democratic election officials could not validate the results of county reports of votes. Multiple Democratic candidates and the Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez publicly rebuked the Iowa Democratic Party and called for a recanvassing of precincts.
Wisconsin also had trouble with its primary in early April after election officials <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chaos-in-wisconsin-as-thousands-of-absentee-ballots-never-reached-voters">failed</a> to send out roughly 9,000 mail-in ballots to voters who requested them. The contest was an early test of state voting systems after the coronavirus outbreak began, and a record number of Wisconsin voters cast their ballots from home in response.
Wisconsin election officials missed sending thousands of ballots while others sent through a congested mail system never arrived at election headquarters to be counted. Many other ballots arrived at headquarters postmarked too late to be counted.
Wisconsin’s difficulties were a warning to other states holding primaries amid a pandemic to beef up their mail-in voting operations and systems in order to handle a record-breaking surge in absentee voting.

Georgia’s New Voting System Struggles With Bumpy Rollout

Joe Biden, the Democratic party&#8217;s presumptive 2020 presidential nominee, answered progressive calls to defund and disband law enforcement agencies across the country by pledging an influx of cash to police departments for &#8220;community policing&#8221; in a new op-ed, published Wednesday.
Although President Donald Trump has worked to connect Biden to activists calling for defunding &#8212; an extreme measure even by far-left standards, though one that has gained popularity in the wake of national anti-racism protests &#8212; Biden has said, both himself and through spokespeople, that he does not support ending funding to law enforcement or disbanding police organizations.
On Wednesday, he tripled down on that, adding that he believes police departments should actually receive more money so that they can expand &#8220;community policing&#8221; initiatives that help cops connect with members of at-risk communities.
&#8220;While I do not believe federal dollars should go to police departments that are violating people&#8217;s rights or turning to violence as the first resort, I do not support defunding police,&#8221; Biden said in a piece published Wednesday in <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/06/10/biden-root-out-systemic-racism-not-just-divisive-trump-talk-column/5327631002/">USA Today</a>. &#8220;The better answer is to give police departments the resources they need to implement meaningful reforms, and to condition other federal dollars on completing those reforms.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;ve long been a firm believer in the power of community policing—getting cops out of their cruisers and building relationships with the people and the communities they are there to serve and protect. That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m proposing an additional $300 million to reinvigorate community policing in our country,&#8221; he added.
That money, Biden said, should be used to purchase equipment that increases accountability, to adopt a &#8220;national use of force standard,&#8221; and to fund diversity programs aimed at hiring police officers that are representative of their community.
Many of those activists behind the &#8220;defund the police&#8221; movement insist that the money &#8220;saved&#8221; by disbanding law enforcement organizations would be better spent on mental health programs and government initiatives to address poverty, but Biden proposes spending that in addition to the $300 million to &#8220;re-fund&#8221; police departments.
&#8220;And, we need to prevent 911 calls in scenarios where police should not be our first responders. That means making serious investments in mental health services, drug treatment, and prevention programs, and services for people experiencing homelessness,&#8221; Biden wrote, suggesting that full-time social workers could be sent on calls with police officers.
Biden has been front-and-center on the issue of race relations for more than a week, seizing on a political opportunity to re-inject himself into a national debate that largely favors Democrats, after a near-two month hiatus from the public eye. The public campaign has been mostly a success for Biden, particularly given that he can deliver prepared speeches rather than rely on off-the-cuff and live stream appearances where he often fails to make coherent remarks.
He now leads President Donald Trump in national polls by an average of 5 points. He is also pulling ahead in most battleground states.

&#8220;It&#8217;s really important that whomever you pick as a vice president agrees with you in terms of your philosophy of government and agrees with you on the systemic things that you wanna change,&#8221; Biden said. &#8220;And is, in fact, going to be able to be someone who is not at all intimidated by the president, not at all intimidated walking in the White House. And is going to be prepared to give their unvarnished opinion and be able to privately argue with the president if they disagree. I want someone strong. I want someone strong, and someone who can — who is ready to be president on day one.&#8221;
Biden later claimed that racism can be found in housing, education, and &#8220;in everything we do.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s genuine. It&#8217;s serious,&#8221; Biden said. &#8220;Look, not all law enforcement officers are racist; my lord, there are some really good, good cops out there. But the way in which it works right now is we&#8217;ve seen too many examples of it.&#8221;

&#8220;People say all the time, &#8216;Oh, we got to get the vice president out of the basement,'&#8221; McAuliffe said on a call. &#8220;He&#8217;s fine in the basement. Two people see him a day: his two body people. That&#8217;s it. Let Trump keep doing what Trump&#8217;s doing.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s hard for the vice president to break through,&#8221; McAuliffe said. &#8220;You&#8217;ve got the COVID crisis. He&#8217;s not a governor, doesn&#8217;t have the National Guard.
