At a time where White House employees are sometimes chased out of restaurants, a new Yelp-inspired smartphone app designed specifically for Trump supporters is highlighting which establishments are on board with the MAGA agenda.
According to The Daily Beast, the app “63red Safe” provides people a list of Trump-friendly restaurants in the area where they can hang their MAGA hats without fear of being chased out or being asked to leave. The app also grades restaurants on the owners’ social media posts and whether or not the establishment allows people to bring guns inside.
“63red Safe works like a conservative Yelp,” reports The Daily Beast. “Instead of reviewing the lighting and ambiance, though, the site’s users rate restaurants and other businesses on a series of four questions, including whether the restaurant’s owners make political social-media posts and whether they allow customers to carry weapons.”
“63red Safe has garnered 5,000 reviews since launching earlier this month — a solid start, but hardly enough to cover every hungry Trump supporter’s restaurant needs.”
Scott Wallace, founder of “63red,” told The Daily Beast that the app is meant to give people an easy-to-use guide on where they can safely eat, likening it to a political “fire inspector.”
“I’m trying to position it as an everyday ‘where can I go eat safely’ app,” said Wallace. “Does this business serve persons of every political belief? Will this business protect its customers if they are attacked for political reasons?”
Wallace predicted that “63red” will become more popular come 2020. “I believe that, between now and 2020, we’re going to see the rise of the socialist goon squad,” Wallace told the outlet. “I think Antifa was nothing compared [to] what’s coming in 2020. And I’m deeply concerned.”
“If they’re not political, they’re safe,” he added.
Some of the restaurants included on the “unsafe” list are obvious choices, such as the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, where White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked by the owner to leave. At the time, Sanders’s father, Mike Huckabee, said the media ignored the part of the story where the Red Hen owner organized a protest when Sanders went to a neighboring establishment.
“There’s a part of that story that has not been told,” Mike Huckabee told Laura Ingraham at the time. “Once Sarah and her family left — of course Sarah was asked to please vacate — Sarah and her husband just went home, they’d had enough. But, the rest of her family went across the street to a different restaurant. The owner of the Red Hen — nobody’s told this — then followed them across the street, called people and organized a protest, yelling and screaming at them from outside the other restaurant and creating this scene.”
Following that event, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) called upon anti-Trump activists to harass the president’s supporters in public. “Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up and if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere,” she said.
Wallace says that the app will not become a marginalized joke.
“We’re committed. This is not yet another a Trump dating site,” Wallace said. “This is not yet another social network.”
